OP, I just want to say that you’re one of the first people I’ve read on the forum to start such a reasonable and friendly thread addressing your problems in tackling another class.

Thumbs up!

(Also, I’d love advice on running a p/s engineer)

New Fellblades?

in Queen's Jubilee

Overall this update is incredible. Account wallet, permanent finishers, the list can go on about what I’m excited for in this update. What I am not excited for, however, is the seeming introduction of Hall of Monument weapons into the game as drops.

People worked hard for Hall of Monuments updates and now you’re releasing 1-handed Fellblades that have cooler effects than the actual HoM one? That just doesn’t seem right to me. And considering that’s all we’ve seen, who knows what other previously HoM skins will be released in the future?

Why even do HoM at all if you can just get better versions of the reward items in GW2? I hope I’m just missing something here, because I’m really disappointed in this particular aspect of the update. Don’t get me wrong those new Fellblades look awesome (I’m sure they won’t be called that… Or maybe they will who knows), but that’s the problem. They completely diminish even earning the 23 point HoM reward.

What are your guys’ thoughts on this?

I’ll go with the others saying that better is a relative term… but also that the HoM skins were, in general, not that great. The gnarled staff? The living shortbow? The heritage armor? (Granted, heritage armor did make you look better for awhile while you were leveling). Heck, some people even attach a sort of “noob” stigma when they see people carrying that gear.

Not to mention you’re tacitly supporting an elitist mentality of “forget you, got mine”, where people shouldn’t be allowed to enjoy certain things because they may not have had the fortune to play GW1 before, or may not have the same qualifications as you. They can’t enjoy the same fun as you because you’ve placed an arbitrary value on the time you spent playing a game. As if it’s the same as work hours at a job or something.

Err.. Personal Portal support skip JP ?

in Queen's Jubilee

I’ll fill some examples to show how mesmer portals trick Puzzles:

1)Southsun cove: Its tied in 3 parts : Skipping stones phase 1, Skipping stones Phase 2, Mountain Ride.
But then.. One mesmer goes to the very end (Where Chest stand) and simples camp there and go play with it alt screaming at chat channel : Porting JP for tips, TIPS VERY APRECIATED.
Theres goes, a massive ammount of people cheating SS JP with mesmers portals.

2) AetherBlade JP : This one have at least 5 parts of content, its hard and really a prove of skill. But then, (AGAIN) a mesmer camp in top of the metal plate at start of the 5th phase of the JP, screaming at chat : PORTING IN 20 SEC’s, Gather at water pool.
There it goes. A massive ammount of people getting achievment, chest, exotics shoulders doing 1/5 of the total JP.

3) LA Jumping Puzzles : Incridyble fun JP, (Especially the Troll’s end and the Pirate JP ). But then, all days that have “JP daily” on, you see shouts at Map-channel : PORTING TO PIRATE JP, Gather at beach near the bonfire!. Or even, PORTING AT TROLL’s END, Gather at chest point.
And there it goes, 2 of the 3 JP of Lions arch messed for lazy people.

And have a lot more. The recent JP for living story achievment proved it. 80% of jumping puzzles had been glitched with mesmer campers.

Its A massive glitch comunnity.

In what way is this actually interfering with your own personal ability to enjoy the game? Do you feel your own accomplishments are undermined because other people can skip the content? Do you hold no innate satisfaction over the fact that you completed it the legit way? Are you just really bitter about other people finding other ways to do things and you feel that you need this illusion of “skill” to elevate yourself above others?

I don’t understand how this in any way, shape, or form affects you, but you seem really cross about people having their own way to have fun. Some people aren’t in it for the skill challenges, they’re in it just to hoard. That’s gravy by me. I complete all of my JPs myself, but I’m not about to begrudge someone that wants to skip on through.

Queen Jennah assassination incoming?

Just making a point here, but it’s not impossible to have Jennah dead. Keep in mind that Zhaitan is supposed to be dead by the current point in the living story, yet the ENTIRE PERSONAL STORY is about your eventual showdown with it.

elections already rigged since you can’t even see the progression.

… Most votes are held without being able to see who voted what or what the progression is until the end.

Have you never in your life been part of a vote where you write down your vote and put it in a box? Like maybe when you were in school or something?

IMO: ArenaNet favors Evon (Unfair!)

Personally, I legitimately find the Thaumanova Reactor fractal to be a more interesting proposition. I already played through all of GW1 and I hated how Abaddon was revealed to be behind everything ever. Vizier Khilbron, Shiro Tagachi, everything. It really just kinda stole the thunder out of the previous two campaigns in a cheap attempt to make everything seem intertwined and to give more threat to the antagonist… but just kinda came off like the bad guys version of Kormir.

He stole all the credit for the other villains and plots.

Meanwhile, I find the Crucible of Eternity to be really interesting and the Thaumanova Reactor had a lot to do with Elder Dragon research, which is the current plot of GW2 and is, thus, more relevant. Further, I can more easily envision what a fun experience in a Thaumanova Fractal would be, but not so much in the Abaddon fractal.

End this idea called "Balance". (heavy read)

First of all, while I respect Extra Credits view on balance and believe it’s a very applicable theory in game design, I do not think it’s a holy grail and/or infallible in any fashion. GW2 has major issues that extend beyond the premise of Extra Credits’ thesis.

While I don’t believe the classes are so poorly balanced that the game is irreparable or any such, the removing of the holy trinity and blending of class roles absolutely introduced a number of problems and lowered the quality of pve compared to the intricate details present in GW1.

There are disparities between classes. There are presently things for which there are few, if any counters. Not everything has a counter, which is usually when ANet steps in and releases a patch. Of course, yes, they are guilty of trying to homogenize the classes too far to a certain extent, but we have a game at present where we have classes that are better at certain things… but only one thing is terribly important to the progress of the game.

Engineers are better at versatility… but versatility is rarely useful for PVE. Thieves are better at stealth… but stealth is rarely useful for PVE.

The classes get their chance to shine in PVP and WvW, perhaps, but the argument that balance is inherently a bad design concept I think is, itself, inherently a poor argument for certain cases and can’t just be broadly applied.

My brother is having roughly the same issue. It also seems to imply that his account has never been activated when he sends in his e-mail that the account is tied to. I was in this forum to see if there was a bug related to this.

Keeping in mind that an alliance of Dredge/Flame Legion just attacked Ascalon and the Shiverpeaks and that a pirate force (Aetherblades) ostensibly tied to the Molten Alliance has recently attacked Lion’s Arch, I find it reasonable to assume that we’ll see an attack on Kryta that ties back to all of that.

Maybe a Nightmare/Centaur alliance to harry both Kryta and Maguuma?

If you don’t like acid, you should really give up on water, because all liquids have some type of pH value to them.

Norn females with the bun haircut get atrocious shadowing on their neck that stops abruptly at their jawline and the back of their neck. Normally this is hidden by longer hairstyles, but the bun haircut causes it to stand out rather profoundly. Essentially, the shadowing is different between the neck and the head model. This only happens with breastplates that feature an exposed neck. This happens no matter how high the settings are placed.

In specific, I’m using the CoF breastplate without helmet.
