It’s something people enjoy doing, but are being absolute jerks to and threatening to do things like report for botting and/or gold-scamming if they don’t get to do it.

You’ll forgive me if I don’t exactly shed a tear for their lost entertainment while they’re being toxic members of the community.

They’re behavior is really no different from someone who enjoys ruining farm trains. Both involve ruining someone else’s fun.

“Fun” is subjective.

I have “fun” by getting more gold and more shinies.

Although I wouldn’t know how they get around the Skritt’s flaw of requiring more than one Skritt to increase intelligence.

Make the opening quest for a Skritt character be escaping an Inquest lab and learning you’re one of several lab mistakes.

Exploit
1. to utilize, esp. for profit; turn to practical account: to exploit a business opportunity.
2. to take advantage of; promote.
3. to use selfishly for one’s own ends.
(source Webster’s dictionary)

I would say that this current farm meta falls into at least one of those three definitions, often times all three. I know the argument can be made that it is available for everyone to do therefore it is not selfish, and that holds true until the farm zerg berates people for attempting to actually play the game in a “normal” manner. Unless you want to make the case that you intentionally play to lose simply for the sake of losing, you can’t really argue for this not being exploitive.

Honestly, some people need to know the difference between an Exploit, and something being exploited.

People need to stop cherrypicking definitions to loosely justify bad behavior in the community.

I’m reminded of the ordeal with King Doric, who pleaded to the Gods because of all the wars that magic had brought. Maybe that is a possible result of having too much magic in the world. All races become too powerful, and start wars against each other.

How is this any different than the last two hundred fifty years? Charr been warring with humans, Norn been warring with Jotunn, and Asura been warring with Skirtt. It seems to me the wars didn’t stop when the gods took back the magic they gave to humanity it just gave them a means to resurrect the dead and to becoming walking artillery pieces rendering the slow and awkward catapults to be outdated.

It could be possible that the Elder Dragons keep Magic stable, as the Tyrian races understand magic, and without them the magic will ‘evolve’ into something similar to the Chaotic Magics found in the Thaumanova reactor. If this is true then the future of Tyria without the Elder Dragons will only see a decrease of magic users, as it will now require extensive research and training to be able to focus the chaotic magical energy into desired effect. We’ll see heavy investments into technology and the world might even become similar to Shadowrun or other settings where science and magic co-exist with one another, just science will be more prevalent than magic in this case.

The reason it’s different is because with too much magic, you start running into an arms race.

Fast forward and the Asura end up testing just how big of a fireball they can cast and blowing out all the windows in a five hundred mile radius.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsar_Bomba

It’s not the length or presence of a war that’s a potential issue, it’s the amount of power that might be brought to bear during it. Imagine a war where every side has the ability to perform another Searing or Foefire… several times over.

Well, if you were silent the entire time and giving absolutely no explanation as to what was going on, I might kick you, myself. I don’t care if someone’s being awesome or doing something effective, lack of communication sucks balls.

… But that’s primarily because a lot of people that think they’re amazing at speedclearing stuff assumes everyone’s on board with them, automatically start going the speedclear route, die, and in the process get everyoen else killed because they didn’t communicate.

In that same instance, if I watched you kill Lupicus while everyone else was downed, I don’t think I’d be a kittenbag and kick you. If I was going to have kicked you, I’d have done it well before that point. Not AFTER you carried my scrub butt.

I just want to point out:

Some guy on a throwaway account came onto reddit acting comically villianish and talked about kicking the guy. This could just as likely be a guy trying to make him look bad as it was the actual guy admitting what he did.

Just become someone logs on and says “That was me, I did it” on a completely anonymous account doesn’t mean that he was, in fact, the one who did it.

That being said: That guy was a total kittenbag.

Mobs prioritize high thoughness builds.

No they don’t. People need to stop spreading this garbage. Almost every mob has different aggro priorities, and even then different skills on each of those mobs will prioritize different conditionals.

There’s a reason why no good teams run an Anchor anymore, let alone AH (in any dungeon).

Yes actually, they do, I’ve confirmed it way too many times.

I’m going to respectfully disagree that Bioware has had stellar examples of storytelling since Baldur’s Gate 2. I see a lot of predictable plotlines that are surrounded by a lot of excellent production value that makes the story seem greater than it really is.

In the case of Dragon Age, it didn’t even really have that and it came off as a little too pandering to the Joss Whedon crowd. Though when one considers that Alistair was literally based on Xander, that explains that feeling.

Er… but yeah, the storytelling in GW2 isn’t exactly stellar, but I’ve never played MMOs with the expectation that the story would be amazing moreso than the lore and setting will be interesting.

I would agree with that definition of DPS guardian so back to spoj ….

I don’t think someone that doesn’t believe that a DPS guardian should take 30 Honor for Pure of Voice is ignorant because that trait doesn’t DO anything if your goal is to increase you sustained damage.

What that DOES tell me is that any Guardian taking Pure of Honor then flipping around and saying you need to be uber-DPS with full Zerkers in all PVE content is being hypocritical.

Because you take a dps guard for the support they provide while dealing good damage. You can go maximum dps, but you almost always need someone in the group to have condi cleanse. The maximum damage role is pretty much never taken by the guard, thats left for LH ele’s, warriors, thieves… basically every class except the guardian. Because the guard has such good defensive traits that can be taken without sacrificing too much dps.

Not to harp this point but I feel like I was just double talked here:

If DPS is the ultimate setup for PVE, always
… and anything but DPS setup is worthless in PVE, even for Guardians
… then how can you advocate 30 points for a defensive trait in a defense-oriented line?

Because every moment you are dead or dying is impacting your DPS. The 30 points in a defensive line allows you that sweetspot of realism between damage output and surivability and the reality that condition cleanse is pretty important for some portions of the content.

DPS is absolutely primal in the game but does not mean that you 100% sacrifice all vestiges of self-preservation in pursuit of it.

I’m a fan of the good ol’ days of voiceless RPGs. Something about voice-acting tends to take me out of the experience more often than pull me in. It just never seems right to me in an RPG.

I guess part of it is the fact that they have to jump through so many hoops to make sure they don’t say your name and/or to make sure you don’t say anything. (Y’know, wh at with every PC-line being 10x as expensive as anybody else’s lines.)

There’s a certain zen that comes with kinda mindlessly watching things fall apart from your autoattacks. It might not be “fun” in the strictest sense, but some people find a quality to it that at least puts them in a good mood and, honestly, if it does, more power to them.

I do think that the Queen’s Jubilee is definitely the worst Living Story thing that’s come out and I’ve generally enjoyed most of the ones that have come out. (I missed the last bit of F&F and the entirety of Secret of Southsun). What’s ridiculous is the sheer profitability of this patch’s farming.. If it was just marginally more efficient it’d be one thing.

Oh well, they experimented with it, they’ll decide whether or not it accomplished what they wanted and here’s hoping the Queen’s Speech makes up for it.

I honestly and sincerely think the voice-acting makes things harder to take seriously, not necessarily because I believe it’s bad (not that I believe it’s good, either), but giving voices to things sometimes just strips something from it.

My two cents an’ all.

Yeah, I’m generally opposed to Deanham throughout this conversation… but when people start pulling out the “I need this game to deal with my irl stress and not commit suicide”, I’m more on the “You have problems far beyond what is reasonable for this discussion” side of the fence.

That being said, FoV sliders on featured on other MMO’s and GW2 even supports setups that drastically expand your FoV, so… I’m not sure where the argument is here. If ANet is going to ban the guy for his 3rd party tool, they’re going to ban him. Nothing you do or say is going to make this more or less likely (aside from reporting), so a lot of this has been blown-out-of-proportion posturing and yelling at one another.

I dont know about engis, dont play them nor ever seen them.

Engy can use a single Adept Major trait to get perma swiftness. They don’t have much of anything else that helps them move faster, but 100% uptime is 100% uptime, which is a hell of a lot better than what Mesmer gets.

100% uptime if you run kits, which pretty much negates all elixir builds, turret builds and gadget builds. Because thats the requirement on that trait- that you are wearing a kit for the movement speed increase.

So, 100% uptime for only a percentage of the population? Awesome.

Well, to be fair, it’s a pretty large portion of the engineer population if the engineer forums are anything to go by. Or if seeing other engineers in action is anything to go by.

Since we are talking about some event that:
1)Cannot invalidate personal stories (thus no “Queen Jennah or Countess Anise is actually evil” revelation)
2)Should be important from a political standpoint (i doubt there would be a speech from the queen herself otherwise)
i would assume that this is either related to Cantha, or with the Tengu.
Probably the latter. Maybe she’s about to announce an alliance with them. Something that would later make them as a playable race.

I don’t get why everyone thinks that events cannot invalidate the personal story. Two personal story characters, at least, have died in the dungeons. That didn’t somehow make earlier quests impossible to access or resolve or anything.

Granted, I suppose it’d be awkward to see another Queen on the throne in Divinity’s Reach and then go to your Personal Story and have to deal with Queen Jennah being queen. Freaky time travel stuff there.

So, what is the point then? The fact that you suddenly want RNG?

Yep that’s exactly the point. /sarcasm.

They should really force people to go through reading comprehension tests before being allowed to post on these forums.

You were immediately hostile to this person for not agreeing with you on the RNG mini thing, now you’re just plain insulting him because he doesn’t see the problem with the minis being the same and not arbitrarily rewarding one person over another because they were lucky enough to get a rarer mini.

I think my reading comprehension is pretty good.

I’ve seen it said in other friends that humans get too much love in GW2 and that everything is human-centric…

But none of the Order mentors are human, Trahearne is a sylvari, most of the main characters of the game are something other than human.

I really think humans are pretty under-represented in the game. This makes sense, to an extent, because humanity is kinda in a terrible position and dying off, but… I hardly think the game is super human-centric.

Also, there are important sylvari NPC’s all over the place.

Did they explicitly and purposefully make the reward per character? Did they, at any point, say that was the intention of the system? It seems to me, considering the rewards everywhere else across the game, that that wasn’t intended.

I don’t get the issue. I have full SE gear, full CoF gear on both my Guardian and my Engineer, one of every AC weapon that my Guardian and Engineer can use, several pieces of HotW gear, several CoE weapons, several SE weapons, two CM weapons, and a TA weapon and I never did paths on one character, then went back and did them on my other. Hell, I didn’t even farm CoF, I just did it whenever the tokens refreshed for it because I wanted the fiery gear.

So… it doesn’t seem terribly difficult to get geared out. I’ve got enough gear for three or four characters on two.
