The guy’s argument boils down to, “I think this is an exploit.”
… That’s it. No reason why it’s an exploit, only a reason why, if it was, it hasn’t been removed yet.
And then he’s asking us to prove him he’s wrong and telling us it’s his opinion so we have to respect it along with breaking down his statement bit by bit as if I was too dumb to understand what he said in the first place.
No, buddy, I got it pretty clear the first time. It was just broken down into more easily digestible dumb chunks the second time through.
Says the guy that was opening threads about how the Queen’s Jubliee farm needs to be closed because you didn’t want to farm there anymore and already got the rewards you wanted.
Well are talking in assumptions and hypothesis now, and I exposed mine.
FTFY
Fair enough. So where is that counter assumption of yours that makes mine wrong?
The problem with your assumption is you give no reason for your assumption. You just say “We have to assume this is wrong” but… there’s no reason to assume it is wrong.
This would be akin to me saying “We have to assume that being able to dodge GL’s grub spawn is an exploit and the developers just haven’t gotten around to fixing it.”
The dungeons were poorly designed from day one, and the fact that people glitch through them, only shows how poor the design really is. It is really easy to prevent players from glitching through walls, it just requires a cleaner way of constructing the dungeons, with build in safety nets. And yes, invisible walls are a good thing, as long as they do not obstruct paths that should seem accessible for the player. If you’ve got an encounter, like for example the Dredge Fractal… then why would you not place ceiling-high invisible walls everywhere where you don’t want players to go? It’s so simple to prevent this sort of glitching, it really is.
A lot of the encounters in dungeons are also poorly set up, using gimmicks that can easily be exploited, and thus that’s what people do. But there’s also various combat mechanics that simply do not work very well. We’ve got a ranged damage system that punishes players if they make use of height differences (makes enemies invulnerable), thus forcing players more towards melee. And we have a trinity that makes DPS the strategy that trumps everything. And since we don’t have a dedicated healing class, and dumb enemy ai, everyone stacks everywhere to make both defense and offense as effective as possible.
Defiant renders control skills useless against bosses, so any boss fight is reduced to simply a game of dodge the red circles, and DPS like crazy.
Skipping most of the mobs should not be possible, if areas in a dungeon were properly gated. And if the rewards were decent, players wouldn’t even want to skip. Alas, mobs have tons of health with very poor rewards, and thus skipping seems actually encouraged.
As for cheap tactics such as the corner trick, I think anything goes when fighting a boss. If you find a strategy that makes the boss fight a joke, then you save time, and you prevent casualties in your team. It’s not our fault as players, that their ai was not designed to work with one of the core design aspects of any square room (a frickin’ corner!). I call that, the “shooting the t-rex from behind the waterfall trick”. If it works, why wouldn’t you do it? Same with the boss at the end of the cliffside Fractal. It’s not our fault that he becomes bugged when you stand too close to him. It is Anet’s responsibility to sort out their boss ai so this doesn’t happen. If a MELEE boss cannot handle players getting too close to him, are the players really to blame?
+1 ancient Tomb Raider reference
Actually… a lot of the great support in the game gets absolutely zero benefit from Cleric’s gear. Most of the best support come in the form of boons or reflects, healing, even in full cleric’s, just isn’t terribly useful.
I used to play a Cleric’s Guardian. Full maxed out exotics and ascended. I used to toss out insane amounts of heals. When I swapped to Berzerker’s, my team started doing better, not worse. Most people can stay up just fine on their own without the healing and most of the useful things I have are shouts and virtues which largely grant boons.
I appreciate that this is actual permanent content and that reason alone is enough to give a mighty thumbs up to this patch.
Sunny Dungeon for sale
230 000 gold
Fully furnished.
Great location, awesome neighborhood.
Good standing, clean and well maintained. Previous occupant took care of all the ghosts and spiders.
Reported for dungeon selling.
Enjoy your ban, n00b.
Yeah, considering open world is pretty much something you can do with your eyes closed. I’ve ran around in zergs before I was even done loading a map. You know, that part where it hovers around the waypoint you joined and you can move, but the camera just stays there?
… Someone knows.
Anyways, if I can help kill champs without even seeing what I’m doing, you can’t convince me open world pve is anything challenging. I’ve even managed to fight Shatterer and Teq that way. You don’t need gear, you just need fingers and a 1 key.
100% of the people I’ve seen complaining about being kicked for path sellers sound suspiciously like they sucked at the game and didn’t want to believe they were kicked simply on that premise.
Heck, one even admitted to being a kittenbag and didn’t understand why he wasn’t allowed to report people that wouldn’t put up with him being a complete kittenbag.
Most people that know how the game works are using Zerker on the easy, poorly-designed dungeons and not wasting their time using it on world bosses who can’t be crit.
I love when people give some sorta celebrity status to people who are good at a flawed, broken game.
got it getting trolled ty, now I am in the same guild as lunyboy.8672 and I was on the run of TA F/U when we beat it about 2 weeks ago? We didnt really have that difficult of a time with it, but the problem comes in that we had a ranger with us, who is a friend we have played other games with who just had to sit the last fight out since his pet doesnt dodge roll when he does, the pet becomes a major problem makeing the rangers in this dungeon often a hinderance ranther than a help for this last boss, and this is where the problem is.
Yup. I challenged these scrubs to do with with 3 rangers and 2 necros, and some of them puffed up their feathers and said they would have it done by the end of last week. Yet, no video, so I decided to remind them how underwhelming their “troll” actually is, and see if I could bait them into continuing the argument.
And our experience highlights the primary issue with the dungeon / path; when it was designed, the professions were not taken into consideration, and the only way to describe content like this is broken. Period. It’s annoying for people who know how to run it, frustrating for first timers who have beaten Arah (path 4 before the nerf, thx), and impossible for people who have just hit 55.
Because it IS a level 55 dungeon. So if you really want a challenge, 3R, 2N – level 55 -> GOGOGOGOGO!
If by “some” you mean “one” and if by “asking for legitimate help” as you stated earlier in the thread you mean “posed a challenge”. If they had refused, you’d have been whining about it, too. When you go around calling people “scrubs” you really aren’t making a great argument for how awful these people are.
All I read out of this is “Waaah I don’t like the way they have opinions different from mine!”
Well, I guess I have to agree on that premise.
Being friendly/funny doesn’t have to mean they put up with you if you’re obnoxious. There’s a difference between being friendly and being self-effacing. Given we know precisely zero about how you play into this but we’ve seen numerous examples of people complaining about not being allowed to be kittens, it’s kinda hard to assume you’re blameless.
So your complain is that you’re being removed when people no longer desire to socialize you due to some kind of odious personality trait that you might have?
… Welcome to the real world and how social dynamics work? Nobody has to put up with you if they don’t like you and nobody’s obligated to get to know you. You can talk out all you want, but they can remove you all they want. That’s pretty much the real world.
Go ahead, talk out to some random stranger in real life and see how long it takes them to blow you off.
I have gotten 2 tickets since Dragon’s Bash, roughly around the Queen’s Pavilion event. Coffers probably still drop tickets, but the price has about tripled last I checked.
Some people are waiting for one of their alts to hit 80 or for something to happen that helps them finally decide what to choose. A lot of people dumped rl money to get those claim tickets through the RNG boxes, they really oughta have a way for you to still redeem them.
I’m sitting on two Jade Claim Tickets right now and I’d be right kitten ed if I couldn’t turn them in.
Will Asc. crafting be time-gated per account?
in Super Adventure Box: Back to School
Posted by: Kirschwasser.3972
….it concerns me that this game could be heading places that discourage having lots of characters on one account.
Your question is a good one, but it is coming from a twisted point of view. I have 8 characters myself but I realize it SHOULD take me 8x longer to outfit them compared to 1 character. Despite what many think, time gating does not exist to punish anyone (it’s there to maintain some level of “rarity” for at least some limited time frame).
Even if you don’t think it’s an intentional punishment (as some here will post…“ANet HATES ALTS PEOPLE!!”), you viewing it as a discouragement is just a point of view that you should re-examine.
This argument works better if the issue was Soulbound vs Account Bound, but this is time-gating vs just letting us do whatever we have the time to do.
Time-gating, in general, is supposed to bridge the gap between casual players and hardcore players by letting hardcore players not get too far ahead of the casuals… but I don’t think it’s working the way it ought to.
From gw2lfg.com. Sadly noone of us is in the position to ban people ingame.
So you guys in a way monopolize the service by establishing your own rule? Should Anet be the final arbitrator of this game?
Anet is the final arbitrator of their game. That LFG tool, however, is not ANet’s.
Nope… this is just like everything else. No one knows the full details until it downloads.
If someone did know for sure, they’d also know what the new Functionality is too.
I’m sorry, what was the bet again?
Cuz I’ll take the bet.
^
Sounds about right.
Or make the scroll give ten skill points, because that’s about ten levels on any character.
… I’d be gravy with that.
I mean, I don’t particularly care about the b-day presents one way or another. Free stuff is free.
Why does she need to be sexy?
To match her voice and all the innuendo she throws around?
They could have at least put a mask on her, and maybe some pants, leave it to our imagination.
Um.. how about no? Would you say this about a guy villain? Only Barbie doll cookie cut out sexy people are allowed to use innuendo? Because she’s voice by Tara Strong, she has to be fappable? Because you don’t find her attractive, she should cover herself up? It’s Anet’s job to only have “smexy” characters?
Wow. Sorry but no.
inb4 “no such thing as sexism in gaming”
Speaking of Tales of Symphonia… a LOT of the voice actors from that game are in GW2.
Huh.
The voice acting isn’t the best i’ve ever heard- but MMO VO’s in general are not as felt as they can be for other games. Lines are written to appeal to the broadest terms of audience with multiple backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultural differences- things end up sounding passive or robotic.
The VO most guilty of this is Tara Strong in my opinion, she just throws on a voice- which already belongs to 5 other characters and says the line, I doubt she even feels her character anymore. She’s talented in the way of how many voices she has- but they hold no weight to me anymore.
Compare this living story Scarlet to Hyden Walches Harley Quinn, and you can see who delivers from the heart. Tara makes a voice what sounds crazy, Hyden embraces the character that is crazy.
Other that that I would like to be able to choose my characters voice within a selection, all Im asking for is 3 voices- make us not all sound like clones- since we all look pretty unique.
Have you ever seen her in interviews? It’s like… kinda 100% obvious that each role is just another paycheck. Mind you, I really liked her voice acting in some things (Tales of Symphonia), but… I don’t think she really gives a hoot what she’s voicing.
Then again, I haven’t noticed a large repertoire of voices for most voice actors, which I think is what makes them immediately recognizable to me. A lot of the really famous ones that the anime kiddies go crazy about have like.. one to two voices each.
There’s another thread on this which has plenty of suggestions on it.
Well maybe you should complain to Anet about giving players a choice. Of course, since Ellen Kiel won by a landslide, my guess is that you would be in the minority here.
I am not sure that 52% to 48% could be actually considered a landslide……
It ended up pretty darn close, in my eyes.
Yeah… definitely not a landslide victory.
WoW! I saved two copper! Literally! Thanks for shafting a potential character and utterly melting down iron for another nail for the coffin. On a serious note, I haven’t noticed the changes one bit. You guys wasted your votes on a bad character.
If I had voted on the premise of waypoint costs, I’d be disappointed.
Well… I AM disappointed because I don’t notice the cost reduction, but I still didn’t vote for Kiel on that premise.
Aegis looks amazing on the Dragon Jade shield, strangely.
no no it does not.
I think it looks amazing. The dragon actually wraps around the glowing part of the aegis and it prints fairly solidly on the armor, no major clipping issues… on almost 100% of the other shields, it just kinda awkwardly floats in front of most of the shield and blocks the appearance.
They don’t need to be more difficult, just not skipable. Skipping mobs kills the inmersion what kills the fun for me at least.
No. Anet is fine with people skipping mobs and it’s faster and more profitable not to fight them.
Because that’s EXACTLY what they want. To be more profitable and fast. That is ANet’s goal. All the other mobs wondering around in the dungeon was an accident with the mob spawning machine, it went crazy and they couldnt stop it so the extra mobs has to be skipped! Last thing I heard is that they are still developing a way to just single hand things to players without even logging in.
My god the kind of things you read online.
Are you for real, yo?
Don’t you know there’s precisely one way to do any content and if you don’t do it in that exact precise fashion you’re an exploiter?
Any efforts by Anet to “make dungeons harder” will probably just add time gating a la Molten Facility or Mai Trin/Horrik’s annoying AoE phase. Though I guess some of the gauntlet enemies had interesting mechanics, like the 4 pirates that would give each other different abilities depending on who you kill first.
But then, look at how whiny baby cry cry everyone got over the AC changes, then look at how they screamed about the Liadri gauntlet, then imagine them making a dungeon boss that was actually “difficult”.
The tears would be legendary.
I don’t even understand the crying over the AC changes. Aside from Ghost Eater (whose difficulty largely depends on how not kittened your team is), I thought pretty much all of the changes were grand.
Again. Anet’s already addressed the issue, calling people exploiters is just kinda being all sour grapes about things not being the way you want.
No one has managed to make a solid counter argument claiming it wasn’t an exploit. The fact ArenaNet fixed it is one more sign of how it was something they didn’t intend to have in the game.
The thing is, ArenaNet didn’t solve the issue. They simply covered it a bit. We are now on the third event ArenaNet had to modify in order to prevent exploiters from exploiting. It’s about time they noticed that, unless they are prepared to change many more events, they are trying to apply the wrong fix. ArenaNet should either deal with the exploiters (something they are not going to do – we all have learned that the GW2 community as a whole is filled by exploiters, and ArenaNet cannot afford to lose all those players), or deal with the new system that has allowed exploiters to exploit so much – they need to remove the Champion drop boxes. Those should be moved to rewards for finishing the Dynamic Events themselves, and each champion in the open world should be changed to be an event (even if just like the “Kill the Champion Troll” event in Queensdale) so people would have a reason to fight them.
Until ArenaNet implements a fix like that, for the real issue behind the current troubles in the game, we are going to have the same problems over and over.
They literally came into a thread where people were complaining about farmers as exploiters, didn’t say that farming was exploiting, and simply said that they didn’t mean to create such a rift between the two playerbases and are hoping to tweak events in the future so that both sides can benefit.
Erego, you can call them exploiters, but Anet has only shown interest in mending the situation, not banning people currently undertaking it.
So the answer is, if we couldn’t farm aethers, we wouldn’t even be there.
Ok, bye.
Right now, each map goes into multiple overflows, which means worlds get their maps filled, and the exceeding players are enough to fill many maps. Assuming two thirds of the players there are the exploiters, which is quite a high number, removing them would still leave us with at least one map full of players – the difference being that those players actually want to play the game as intended and finish the event, instead of exploiting the champions.
We don’t need exploiters. They are not helping the game. Quite the opposite – they are leeching the players who want to do the event and so happen to help them clear the waves until the pirates come.
Again. Anet’s already addressed the issue, calling people exploiters is just kinda being all sour grapes about things not being the way you want.
Not gonna lie… I often forget there’s even a thief class in the game.
Could you link the interview?
Oh well, that might be true.
Also: Can we call this the great TAFU SNAFU? Pretty please? I just want an excuse to say it.
I’m not understanding the part where a game is about obligation and responsibility?
I suppose a game like, I don’t know, football, where it’s a profession, and you are being paid, and there’s a lot of business and money and all that on the table, technically that’s a ‘game’, but really it’s a business.
If I sit down to play Settlers of Catan, obligations and responsibilities don’t drive me to play it? Hanging out with friends and family and doing something fun drive me to play it.
I suppose there are some weekend warrior types that use video games to itch their “I’m playing war!” scratches. A place where they get to stretch their 2nd grade Type A personalities, or perhaps everything they do in life is ‘Type A’ (though, I’m not sure what commando cooking would look like? “Look at that omelette! I crushed that!! Ughnn!!!”). However, some of us play games because they are fun. I gotta sword, and a helmet, and some tasks, and I go off in search of a little loot, and play like I’m a little warrior making my way in a strange world! Yay!
That’s it. Fun.
Now, years ago Vanguard made a game like it’s supposed to be made (and played, apparently) with insta-perma-whatever death and corpse runs and you lose your equipment when you die, and sometimes they come to your house when you die and take some of your real money and a chair and some food from you. You have to have a raid party of 20 strangers to virtual-bully you at character creation. You join a guild and are told you have to play the tank, because no one else wants to, since we’re all awesome DPS with awesomz Gear Scorz, and we need a tank and you are it. And you have to go come out every night for 4 hours a night until 1am to play, and we don’t care that you have to get up and go to work the next day.
I think those still exist out there…somewhere? Do they all have to be that game? I kinda like this one.
+1 for playing good boardgames.
Anet already responded to a thread regarding zerg farmers and people are STILL up in arms about farmers.
Responding to a thread about something doesn’t always (in fact, rarely) actually stops topics.
So today I’m going to do a bunch of Jumping Puzzles while the invasion is going on. Show me what rules I’ll be breaking, and I’ll stop.
Do you want to see something interesting? Take a look at the rules of the game. Show me which rule were the Snowflake exploiters breaking, and which rule were the Cultural weapon exploiters breaking.
And comparing jumping puzzles to intentionally stalling an event: well, using a somewhat poor metaphor I have read recently, “apples and jalapenos.”
So uhhh… Anet already responded in a thread complaining about zerg farmers and whatnot… And you might think they’d have taken the opportunity to wag their finger and say “shame on you”.
Instead, they said that they’re looking at a way to restructure events because they didn’t want to create the divisiveness you see today.
This says to me that, while you may not agree with zerg farmers, they are not breaking the rules of the game and you REALLY have to stop crying “exploit! exploit!” at everything you don’t like.
The fact that my reply was deleted proves that Guild Wars 2’s community and Arena Net themselves are opposed to anyone objectively pointing out the game’s many flaws. GG.
Right..because there are no negative comments or threads on these forums.
/tinfoil hat
Because there are definite negative connotations in these forums that Anet tiny little heart couldnt handle. So they just delete it and shove it under the carpet which will grow pretty big soon.Instead they listened to certain “constructive criticism” of making champions loot more valuable contributing to the farming culture.Thumbs up.:)
… and the heaps of negative criticism elsewhere throughout other threads are magically not deleted? I guess you’re some kind of prophet and they’re just focusing on you.
Omg just earlier.. a guardian running mace/shield, full pvt, using no virtues at all, and no reflects in Sorrow’s embrace. My rage meter over 9000. -_-
I may make a video of me doing dungeon tour with random pugs. People have told me I should.. It will just be me yelling at the screen every couple seconds because of all the things that make me angry, but hey, if it makes people happy then it’s well worth the rage :O
NO NO NO! YOU MUST GO TO YOUTUBE! That’s where the uploader is likely to be.
But for real, on the Zadorojny path (forgot which that was. p3?) is reflect very important? I’m sitting on a full SE set and got through it nigh effortlessly several times without a reflect… but now that you mention it, that probably would have made the part where you break the APC a bit easier…
To be fair though, I’ve had that set since release month so… I play way differently than back then. PUGing felt different back then… -wistful sigh-

Scarlet is the anti-trahearne.
Well yeah, as I stated earlier:
Traehearne: Oh so perfect Slyvari who took all the glory from former heroes. United good guy factions despite them being more interesting standing on their own rather than merged into one generic blob.
Scarlet: Oh so perfect Slyvari who took all the glory from former villains. United bad guy factions despite them being more interesting standing on their own rather than merged into one generic blob.
Scarlet is Traehearne, only female and evil. With an extra dose of special snowflake.
2 other differences, Saladmancer had a good initial plot (Sylvari personal story) then became the meme for kitten by the community (but for some reason kormir didnt get even half the rage during nightfall) with terrible voiceacting (but cool model/design) while Scarlet had a plain/bad/ass pull initial plot/setup (if you think about what we knew not what could be) but the community had shown how much more awesome it could be with a awesome voice (and a terrible model/they once again were too lazy to put the concept art into the game).
Kormir absolutely got just as much crap as Trahearne did.
I dont’ know….
the living story line talks about torturing people by cooking them in a pot.I’m not sure that is meant for young kid.
Cooking people in a pot is a classic feature of bedtime stories for young kids.
The average 8-12 year old plays CoD/GTA, knows every single curse/racist slur in the book, and is probably no stranger to pornography. I severely doubt a mention of someone getting cooked alive with corrupt their pure souls. Welcome to 2013.
That ain’t no joke. Everyone should read your comment slowly, and give it time to sink in. It’s kittening sad.
Yeah, someone being cooked alive hardly phases kids these days when they’re seeing people get blown to bits by their grenades in CoD and banging prostitutes in GTA.
This really wasn’t much different twenty years ago.
I’m sure it wasn’t much different forty years ago.
For PvE? Not really. I guess you might make an argument for Sylvari or Humans.
In WvW, I hear that Snow Leopard is pretty awesome, but Renewed Focus is my general preference.
I think the revamp for underwater combat should be to just increase the damage of underwater weapons. The worst part of going underwater in HotW is that, despite having exotic underwater weapons my damage suddenly drops.
Why are “misguided good intentions” for six year olds? I would disagree and say that “evil for the sake of evil” is more for six year olds. That’s like every fairy tale/Cartoon villain ever. Misguided good intentions are more realistic, that’s almost the only kind of evil in the real world.
Three new fractals are going to be coming out by the end of the year. I imagine there might even be new rewards tied to them or something, considering it’s a pretty major fractal update.
Oh. Pfft. For some reason I read that they weren’t.
