Who would be the new playable race?

They’ve been at war since time immemorial. I’m not sure it’s really in a position to evolve overmuch, but it’d be interesting to see if the fall of Fort Salma has any repercussions as far as that conflict goes. I’m sure that might touch on it in Season 3 if there’s any relevant business to do out in Kryta.

We asked this at an interview back in 2013. Basically, the death of the Ulgoth put the centaurs on the back hoof, and it was pretty much confirmed that the centaurs were only having the success they were having because of Caudecus playing Palpatine (not in those words, but that was the gist). The centaur forts in Kryta have been holding out, but they’re not threatening to attack Shaemoor any more.

On the other hand… we’ve also been told they can’t go anywhere else. The Maguuma Wastes can’t support their population, and apparently they can’t return north towards the Verdant Cascades region for reasons that have not really been explained, so their survival basically requires either seizing food and arable land from Kryta, or negotiating a peace so they can trade for what they need… and the Modniir at least aren’t willing to talk peace. There used to be a centaur refugee in Lion’s Arch who was forced out for speaking an unpleasant truth – that an alliance between Divinity’s Reach and the Black Citadel would basically spell annihilation for the centaurs if they didn’t sue a peace. I’m not sure where he is at the moment – he was moved to one of the refugee camps during Scarlet’s invasion, but I haven’t seen him since. (To be fair, though, I haven’t actually looked. Maybe when my revenant gets to those areas.)

It’s great that they give that info in interviews, but it’d be great if there was more info laying around the game that gave any real indication to this state of affairs. I tend to fall into the camp of “If it’s not in the game, it doesn’t exist.” except that I also take books into account. This is largely because interviews have been such an unreliable source of information when it comes to what is and is not canon.

He HATED Eir until Season 2, and all it took to get over all that hate which built up for 17-or-so years was… fighting alongside her once, and talking once. Yeah, that doesn’t happen in reality.

In fairness, I think fighting alongside someone even once would go a pretty long way for me repairing some bridges with people I hate. Now whether that’d work in a high fantasy game like this? I agree that it’s a little rushed.

Who would be the new playable race?

None thanks.

Arena.net already struggle at providing content for the five existing races.

Sylvaris have the best. Humans inherit from GW1 and benefits the huge amount of players sticking to them. Asuras, Charrs, and Norns needs some love.
We can hope for balance through further content, but we’re only at the beginning of HoT and we could wait 2/3 years before going onto an other dragon.

Asura are pretty well responsible for everything ever. They’re used as justification for any bit of technology that might be needed. I’d argue the Charr are in a worse spot, since nobody seems to use their impressive technology outside of the Pact. Large swathes of Season 1 and 2 heavily relied on Asura, whether through their technology or through Asura NPCs. You deal more with Phlunt than you do any other national leader in Season 2.

I agree, however, that the Sylvari have a lot of love. They’re kinda Tyria’s elves.

As for the Norn, they crop up all over the place, but little emphasis is placed on their culture or struggles. They tend to be an excuse to have a big guy speaking rumbly at you. So I’d say Charr and Norn are the ones in need of a little representation, but I also understand that the story right now just happened to focus elsewhere.

What about Charr/Human negociations?

What about them? During the World Summit, it’s implied that Kryta’s still going through it. It’s a long, hard-fought battle to negotiate what they need and Caudecus is clearly still undermining her, as seen in Season 2.

What about Norns/Svanirs cohabitation?

That’s the nature of Norn society and I’m sure it’ll crop up if Jormag ever gets near the spotlight.

After everything that happened in Caudecus’ Manor, did he get in trouble?

He’s kept very close to the Queen for his own “protection”. As a “reward” for “helping rescue” her.

What evolutions for Inquest/Flame Legion/Separatists/Svanirs ?
We see them but do not get any insight on their leaders and plans.

Well we know the leaders and plans for the Inquest and Flame Legion, at least, through the story mode dungeons, though we kinda killed them and/or disrupted their plans heavily. We know that the Inquest thirst for knowledge and burn out talent like a fantasy hypercorporation and that the Flame Legion wants to be back on top of the totem pole. They’re simple motivations that suffice for what are, for now, background elements.

How is evolving Human/Centaur war ?

They’ve been at war since time immemorial. I’m not sure it’s really in a position to evolve overmuch, but it’d be interesting to see if the fall of Fort Salma has any repercussions as far as that conflict goes. I’m sure that might touch on it in Season 3 if there’s any relevant business to do out in Kryta.

What magic do warriors possess?

I generally rationalize the way shouts work to be a form of magic, as well as some of the more questionable weapon skills they use. Certainly one or two of their elites. Of course, the argument could be made that shouts and banners are just mechanical benefits of inspiration, but I rather doubt that the lore of Warriors is that they lack the ability to harness magic as that’s already stated in lore to be a very rare state of being for any creature.

Heya, I mistakenly reported a bug involving weapon-swapping removing an item from my inventory because I hadn’t realized that what happened was that going into WvW had unspecced me from Reaper and, thus, didn’t show it as an available weapon when I went to re-equip it. I’ve since realized what happened, but not before I had submitted a bug report in confusion. So err… figured instead of filing a separate bug report for that, I’d just make a note of that here?

Zhaitan also had many, many, many years to build up his power and establish his base of operations. Mordremoth was asleep until very recently and the minions he was supposed to have were largely sheltered by the Pale Tree. He simply did not have the kind of time that Zhaitan had, thus why he was a comparatively easier foe to tackle.

Well, rigor mortis wears away sometime after death. Also, you’re arguing logic for magically animated corpses. Last I checked, dead bodies don’t walk, talk, or cast spells.

Besides, would you really prefer, say, Dracula to be a stiff shambling corpse-thing? Mythology and fiction are replete with examples of the undead as creatures who do not shamble. Wargrs, wights, et cetera.

Start making play styles

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kirschwasser.3972

Kirschwasser.3972

All it would do is make people choose the most useful alternative, it won’t create playstyles at all. For example:

Take Warrior Main-Hand Sword abilities. Let’s say the Leap #2 skill that cripples could have 2 alternatives.

Alternative 1.) No longer cripples, has 300 less range, but immobilizes for 2 seconds.

Alternative 2.) Gains 300 range, does x3 dmg, Unblockable, but cooldown now twice as long (reduced if it hits).

If you zerg around in WvW you’ll take 1 every time.

Or take the #3 skill that does more dmg if below 50% health.

Alternative 1.) Does bonus dmg the more health target has instead.

Alternative 2.) Reduced power/base dmg, now applies stacks of bleeding based on target health.

Again, 1.

It will just turn weapons in to what trait trees are like, there’s plenty of imaginary diversity, but if you want to play properly you’ll always go down certain lines and take certain traits.

If this is the case then why doesn’t Anet remove every trait and weapon that isn’t used so we all have the exact same character?

Because that would be boring.

Also this is where balancing actually comes into play.

They don’t remove them because pretend diversity is better than no diversity. It’s why for example there’s food that makes you deal more damage while downed. Nobody will use it… but … diversity!

So then, you actually think the game would be better if there was no such thing as builds, each class was just a fixed set of like 15 abilities and that was that? Lol…

Sure would love to play that /sarcasm

… I actually do think the game would probably be better that way. I don’t equate a variety of builds with somehow being good. You could build content around the idea that each class was different but had a fixed set of abilities and probably have it better designed as a result.

A DPS Guardian build?

Posted by: Kirschwasser.3972

Kirschwasser.3972

You can check out Brazil’s DPS test he does vs giants. I have slightly different attack rotations but its more out of habit then knowing if its a min/max rotation. The main differences is I’m always applying blinds when I can with my rotations(except if it means breaking an auto attack chain).

forgot the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoXwp94Bltk

That vid gives a false sense of Guardian’s DPS because it uses Undead Slaying and Sigil of Night (+20% dmg).
Normally, your damage is 20% lower than that.

That being said tho, I recall coming here in February posting a Sword-based high DPS build with AH for dungeons, most praised it but a lot of people were still going on about GS here and GS there.
No. Sword master race. As boring as it is, as flawed as Guardian design is, Sword auto is the best DPS.

I seriously hope Anet is gonna do something about this at some point.
Guardian and Ranger are the only auto-attack classes left basically.
ANET shorten the cooldown of other skills and make ZD worth using.
Guardian is far from OP anyways, some buffs won’t make anyone cry.

Except, optimally, you’ll be using a +10% (current enemy) buff and another +10% bonus (perhaps Sigil of Night, for most dungeons). So… it maintains accuracy in optimal situations.

Don’t expect ‘anything’ from him or the false promises they’ve been repeating for over a year now. Balance has been an unchecked failure since launch, and many classes still only have ONE viable build.

I don’t know any professions that only have one viable build. Maybe they only have one viable build if you’re building for ONLY efficiency, which I think is the OP’s point.

I’m sure none of the builds I use regularly, you’d consider viable…but I still beat dungeons and fractals with them on a regular basis. I’m sure it takes me longer to run a dungeon than it takes you. I just don’t care.

I had a similar argument with someone yesterday. Of course, I was arguing about efficiency, but I was trying to tell people that you can beat pretty much any dungeon with any build. That’s no indicator that you have a successful build. The game is so easy that pretty much any build will fly.

It’s only when you want efficiency that the efficient builds start meaning anything. I like efficiency. I don’t like purposefully taking bad things for the illusion of depth or complexity. Doesn’t mean I don’t think others shouldn’t. The only time it gets my knickers in a twist is when they think that, because they can beat a dungeon with it, that it’s actually good.

Yesterday I saw someone say “my condi ranger wrecks dungeons”.

You don’t have to complete the burrow event for the path to be completed.

Im taking about the burrow event where you find the first piece of the scepter, where you have to keep Hodgins alive. How you solo that I’m not sure, neither how to continue the path without doing it and without exploits

That was the event I was talking about.

How do you go on without this event? is the question we’ve been asking since the beginning of the thread. Do you really know or are you just trolling for sport?

That would involve telling you how to exploit by using what is likely to be terrain glitches. No I do not know how it is done and I don’t think it should be publicly revealed on the forums.

I asked specifically how do you do it without exploits. So I guess he was trolling after all.

If so, then my previous answer was correct; unless there is a smart strat against that event, it can’t be solo.

If you want a legit method, check out the elementalist solo eirewolf linked.

That event is part of a dungeon path progression unlike kholer. The notion of progressing without doing the said event IS an exploit. But if you aren’t happy with this answer then so be it.

Lucky for me, answers in a forum (or the video game itself) doesn’t trigger my emotions.

Kholer was a complete separate comment. The only thing to discuss is if the burrows event in P1 is or not skip able with no exploits. So far the answer remains no.

Ps. I’m not in favor or against skipping this event. Just want to know if its possible exploit free cause I’d be willing to give it a try on my own.

Actually, the only thing to discuss is whether or not p1 can be solo’d, event or not. That’s the purpose of the thread, not the specific piece you’ve cherrypicked out to be discussed.

Why must everything be dark, gritty and realistic to be immersive? What happened to games like Okami and Shadow of the Colossus? Games that could be immersive and captivating without the dark and gritty realism.

A well-played Support can actually do wonders for any team and STILL be geared for DPS.

Conversely, you may have someone that tosses around blinds, chills, immob, for the control role. They do things like make sure the mobs are grouped together for your people to cleave efficiently.
