was downed 3 nerfed?
Because it didnt heal me I notice.
role playing…
I think you guys overlook a big advantage Guardian gets if they have traps.
Yes, you’re going to see a stealth burst Guardian! Trapper runes synergy!See how rangers take great advantages from using traps in WvW and wielding LB, now Guardian will be able to do the same thing on their mediation spec!
I bet despite all the QQs, some people are going to exploit this new trap feature in WvW as Guardian and become a fake ranger. (LB, traps, stealth) However I do find Guardian “stealing” too many stuffs from ranger, that even the LB animation is ranger’s LB skills, and new f2 charge is ranger’s GS3 charge.
I’m alreadying betting ranger is going to steal concentration and mediation from Guardian as “druid”, a supposedly supporting type of play-style.
How this helps us when we dont have added damage from stealth unlike Rangers/Thiefs…

New Speculation on Elite Specs = Dual Class
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Knighthonor.4061
DragonHunter is Guardian/Ranger
Because they use a longbow? Warrior uses one, too. They don’t have many similarities outside of that.
Guardian’s longbow has a strong emphasis on support and cc. It looks like a ranged mace/hammer. And traps were already shared between rangers and thieves.
Dual-class doesn’t mean they are combining 2 classes together, it means elite specs will be like a secondary class, giving 2 “classes” to each existing profession.
Dragon Hunters use traps like a Ranger, and support elements of Rangers…lets not forget wing leap…
Once people begin to realise they don’t actually have to take traps and they don’t actually have to use a longbow their attitudes might change. The virtue changes alone seem interesting.
than all we get from the new ES is new virtue active effects,,, thats it… a waste of trait line for just that…..
I dont care about the name. DragonKnight would been better but I give it a pass. My problem is TRAPS…..
We could have got more Spirits or something from Rangers, but no we get TRAPS,,, very unGuardian-like…..
Man imagine if we could summon Ghostly Knight Spirits that follow us into battle and protects us? That could have been so much cooler.
We could have got a:
*Wizard Ghost- that deals ranged damage and CC.
*Knight Ghost – that deals melee damage and provides reflection fields, taunts, and protection to allies.
*Monk Ghost – that deals ranged damage, but is converted into healing to nearby party members, and provides cleansing and Boons. (this could been our Heal skill)
with a cool Elite skill that mixes with the spiritual concept.
Man I want to cry today..
I am glad I am a Guardian, because I need meditation right now….
Is this the trade off of getting 2hander weapon vs 1hander for Elite Spec?
I dont have a problem with us getting longbow,,, but the presentation of this was terrible.. TRAPS? something thats already BROKEN!!!!
I much rather have the alpha stance mechanics, than this crap. I actually wanted support/better support. But also wanted a way to do better ranged damage. stance system makes the most sense here.
But ok, I can give that a pass. But TRAPS tho… hard to pass on that error…..
There could have been much better utility skills we could have got from rangers,,, but no they gave us TRAPS,……
can we get a class change item in the gem store now?
I hope we at least get some of the new boons and conditions….
How about a Taunt on one of our skills?
This reveal diminishes my hopes not just for the Guardian but for the rest of the professions to come.
only 1 class was going to get the /ranger off class, and it was us. I doubt other class’ elite spec will be this lame…..
While traps might be underwhelming. I think people are undeeeestimatng the significance of the virtue changes. That extra leap could make for a pretty good addition to LB/GS, Hambow or even more standard set ups. Remember not all parts of specializations are required.
that aim based spear may have problems like Flame Thrower kit does. thats my concern.
Also is that leap ground target or not?
I believe it said it was ground targeted. And they seem to get the mist wall shield from revanant hammer on their courage virtue. I could see the new stuff being pretty useful, honestly. Just avoid traps if you don’t like them, just like any other build. People still get 3 trait lines… Meditation Dragonhunters with more mobility and blocks? I cant imagine that not being successful. Especially if the new trait that makes the courage leap also deal damage when you land, the burst potential could be real.
avoid traps?
Thats all the DH’s 6-0 skills seem to be….
I think the new virtues sound pretty good. A bit unsure of the longbow with the limited information. But that name, I don’t really find it fitting at all.
The same goes for traps. They would be a more fitting addition to warriors than guardians. Along with the Dragonhunter name.
I was actually expecting Engineers to get traps!!
nah I believe Engineer is getting Guardian or Ele mechanics/skill types.
Hey everybody keep in mind we can use the Dragonhunter with Melee Weapons of the Guardian as well.
I want to see the rest of the utilities and Elite skills.
Not so sure about Traps. Hope they group target at least.
giving us something thats already broken on Rangers.
Way to go Guardian/Ranger oops I mean Dragonhunter..

kittenty name aside, i can’t believe they just took traps from the ranger and put it on a guardian, wtf man…
thats what I was thinking… why give us something that broken for rangers..?
looks like the traps are in fact ground target, and getting a Ward Trap… that could be cool.
One thing I could see working, or may work, is the Melee traps builds.
Whats some suggestions for improving the Dragon Hunter in this area?
I hope the Traps get ground target as well, and a taunt trap and more support traps to heal allies.
That Damage from Bow seem weak and slow….

See here
DragonHunter is Guardian/Ranger
Chronomancer is Mesmer/Necro
The Elite Specs are the new Dual Class system..
told you
WOOOOOWOWOWOWOWOW
ESO reference?
Need to look more into it. not as interesting as expected.
(edited by Knighthonor.4061)
Healing Breeze – Shout
Shelter – Consecration
Tome of Courage – Consecration
Tome of Wrath – ConsecrationIs really hard to assign the Tomes. I don’t think they fit as Spirit Weapon becouse they don’t create NPCs. And Tome of Wrath already have burning on #1.
I agree. just revamp Tomes into Kits…
Shelter should be a concentration since its support oriented. Range is Point Blank so no ground target. problem solved..
Chants and Echos are shouts in GW2.
Well. No.
Chants and echos existed alongside shouts and behaved quite differently, even though they all had synergy. Shouts in GW2 are in no way or form spiritual successors to echos or chants, they’re all simply based on GW1 shouts.
The concept doesn’t exist. Doubt the guardian spec will change that, for that matter.
No they are the same. Those mechanics arent different in GW2. they were the same concept just split by different radius sizes. Which is a mechanic that is set by skills themselves in GW2. no need for longer ranged shouts and calling them Echos… Because Shouts like other skills in GW2 can have their radius changed…
I want a Gem Store Outfit that fits each new Elite Spec’s theme….
Okay just one bump.
Was wondering if anyone else was interested in the design of the new Specializations Panel & “What functions other’s might what from this new Panel?”
Could this be an indication Build Template’s are coming with the expansion as well?
What are others thoughts?
link to it so we can see
Want better weapon models and heavy armor outfits for my necro to wear.
In terms of build diversity, I don’t care for having some insane number of available build options but only using maybe a handful of genuinely useful builds. I would rather have a smaller number of manageable and more useful builds. If HoT were to reduce the amount of possible builds down by a factor of 10 or so, then I would expect the each of the remaining build possibilities to be incredibly useful. In short, I want quality, not quantity.
not clear here, are you saying you would rather have 10 good builds out of 20 than 20 good builds out of 100?
Well I did say “each of the remaining build possibilities” so that would mean (hypothetically) instead of having 5 good builds out of 1000 with the current system, I would expect the new system to provide perhaps 20-30 builds max, but every single one of the 20-30 builds would be useful or just as good as the 5 or so builds from the old system (the old system being the current system).
Lets be realistic. There will still be meta builds better than others. Just will take time to figure those out. And when that happens, the less options would pretty much force us to play the meta…
TODAY THAT DAY?
I have an idea for an elite spec that is a mix of Guardian/Ele
using Virtues as a sort of stance mechanic, of Damage, Support and Defense.
8second gcd between switching virtue stances.
the new utilities would be Glyph Skills that have different effects based on stance being used.
stances also provide a AoE passive effect to allies nearby sort of like an aura of some kind.
switching stances also removes fear and stun.
Whats your thoughts on this idea?
My guess is that it will be Paragon and we gonna get either Chant or Echo as new skills. We’ll know tomorrow I suppose.
Chants and Echos are shouts in GW2. So that wouldn’t be a new skill type for us like Mesmers got.
I would like 3 stances.
1 offensive stance
1 support healing stance
1 defensive tanking stance with Taunt skills like Staff RevenantWhile that does fit thematically with virtues, I don’t really think a tanking stance would fit even a little bit on the longbow (range and tanking don’t really go together). I’m assuming the idea behind the longbow and those two stances is that it allows guardians to deal damage, heal allies, and generally support from a long-range via a weapon. No other weapon really allows this on guardians, and currently there’s no real pure ranged support weapon in the game (the closest thing is the water attunement on the ele’s staff). The scepter only kind of~ let’s you deal damage at range, and the staff only kind of~ let’s you support at range.
The changes I wanted to see are something like letting the healing arrows have AoE or bounce rather than just the piercing that only fits the offensive stance’s arrows.
Keep in mind that if we get stances like this they will apply to more than just Bow.bow is simple one way to play defense in defense stance. Could apply control and taunts. Thats pretty defensive on its own.
If they do use them, in all fairness they should skip at least SOME
.
I mean…

Or
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Spoil_VictorNo no no no, I don’t want to see Those icons again
UNLESS Colin Johanson himself will be the new model for them or Necro icons exclusively. Then all icons can be Colin. I don’t care, I take ’em.
wtf why would a developer use real life Crowley for something in the game? who idea was that?
Are the 25Heals getting buffed?
any word on this yet?
For drytop how do I unlock the west part of map?
Simultaneously tracking where your SWs are at any given time during a fight takes skill and practice.
I’m a bit confused by this. What sort of skill is involved here, and how to you practice this? I can make note of where the spirit weapons are, but the positions they decide to stand in or the speed at which they adhere to my commands are determined by the AI. As I have no direct influence over the AI algorithms, I’m not really sure how I can practice the positioning of the weapons and become more skilled at it.
In my mind, there would need to be some specific pattern of manipulation that could be learned and refined, but I’m not seeing that as far kitten positioning is concerned.
Yes positions are decided by AI, which is exactly why you need to practice your multi-tracking skills. Where am I, where are my SWs, where is the enemy, is my Hammer in range for knockdown, if I knockdown with my Hammer, is my Sword close by for the command, etc. It’s a skill many WvW’ers have, it’s called not putting your blinders on. Those who don’t have this skill will chase an enemy without realizing they’ve just run straight into a zerg. It’s training yourself to get out of tunnel vision. To learn to left-click camera pivot to scan your environments mid-fight.
Macro-management of SW positioning would be way too complicated.
This further confuses me. Macro-management is a skill that can be practised. It was something available in GW1, and is the same sort of skill you would utilize in an RTS. I think having that sort of control over the spirit weapons would provide a great way for players to maximize their usefulness as well as apply a meaningful and tactical mechanism.
As far as “way too complicated”, I don’t think it would be as far as a player’s skill is concerned. One is always able to practice to get better at something. It would only be too complicated from a usability standpoint as the GUI and game engine is not designed to support this style of play in general. I think this is what will ultimately prevent this level of change from entering the game, although I still believe this sort of change would be beneficial to anyone wanting to run spirit weapons.
I haven’t played GW1 so I can’t comment on that. Yes in terms of gameplay/UI it would be way too complicated. Yes we all can practice it since it’s the type of skill you would utilize in an RTS, but this isn’t an RTS. Right-click turns your character, left-click turns the camera, what type of RTS-practiced skill would transfer over? How would you create a bounding box to select your SWs like you would in any other RTS? Would I have to do some ninja finger contortions to do some hotkeys? What about including move, stop, hold, attack, attack-move for each of the SWs? Would it turn into some kind of “required skill: 150APM” to master RTS-style summons? Would the UI turn into some cluttered WoW-styled UI that looks like a ’95 IE with 50 addons?
In the end, summons would just turn into a burden. And those playing their single characters with no summons can solely focus on what they are doing and what you are doing, and they will run circles around you while you fiddle around with all the extra UI and hotkeys and whatnot. Eventually will you practice enough to get used to it? Sure. But the learning curve is just that much steeper. You would need 2-3 times more practice to get to the same level of your opponent. It’s not something I would want anyone to go through, because it’s not fair.
A more simple way to do this is simply add the old Hero UI to spirit weapons so we can control them better. This also gives them a chance to get more than one command ability which is a nice buff.
is today the day of the reveal?
I want lots of Defense and Outward Healing for Necro Elite Specs
you want to turn them into a trinity role, yes, we kinda figured that :P
how you guess?
I want lots of Defense and Outward Healing for Necro Elite Specs
I heard this form somebody in the game. can somebody explain?
Define GRIND…
Why would you assume that?
We didn’t get any mesmer/chronomancer themed outfit- the Exemplar Attire/Countess Anise outfit was a response to a community outcry.
Most outfits are also datamined weeks in advance.
that new Outfit as well as the outfit before it seem Mesmer themed….
We know we will be getting more Elite Specs in the future with future Xpacs, but what about new Core Specs?
Whats your thoughts on new Core specs?
Something to note:
If the Elite Spec uses a Stance system, it would be affecting more than just Longbow. SInce Elite Specs can use other weapons as well. this mean the stance system would need to affect them as well.
