Given how guardians and mesmers were treated so far, and the tease of a full shout spec, it’s safe to say Engies will get a full set of another profession’s skill type.
Our heals already cover all of our existing types, a fact that makes the possibility of getting various skills of those types look improbable.
The key are of course those drones. They do seem to behave like passives instead of summons, but a full-signet spec seems questionable, as it’s not unique enough (all other profs have signets already, not having them actually makes us more unique) and the playstyle would be too passive.
However, it’s possible, especially after seeing how much Dragonhunter changes Virtues, that our elite toolbelt could feature Signet/Virtue-like skills, and those would be the drones.
I believe those Drones will function similar to Guardian’s virtues and have a passive effect and a active effect.
With that being the case, its a safe bet that they would get some kind of Guardian skill type. only thing that comes to mind is Signets.
It really looks good, but so did some of our backpacks.
The problem remains the same that no matter how good something looks, if you can’t customize or remove it, it limits your character’s concept and your transmuted gear’s look.
When I first rolled an engineer, I chose the backpack item. That was without knowing anything about kits. I had this concept in mind that my character was a curious Sylvari that wanted to explore the world, and the Engineer profession symbolised that knowledge he would acquire over time, which was very different from an innate power like magic, or combat training. The backpack really fit well with that concept.
But, it’s different for others. They don’t have to follow the same concept. They want the freedom to choose, to look bad kitten , to be able to use back slot items freely, to display their weapons, etc. That was the problem, and while there was a vocal crowd that really disliked the way hobosacks looked, the bigger problem was always the limit of options, regardless of how good (or bad) hobosacks really looked.
actually early on in the game, there were no-limited number of Back Skins. Engineers were the easiest way to get a cool back skin. I believe people forget this.
Elementalist + Warrior = Warder – Defensive, Large AoEs
Elementalist + Engineer = Alchemist – Group support/self enhancement
Elementalist + Thief = Tempest – Chaotic/mobile
Elementalist + Guardian = Zealot – Front line group support and damage
Elementaslist + Mesmer = Arcanist – deceptive, critical
if Tempest is Ele+Thief,,, what skill type would they get?
So it seems clear that each specialization will be a merging of two current professions. So far we have:
-Chronomancer = Mesmer +Necro
-Dragonhunter= Guardian + RangerFor starter I’m happy that is not ele to get traps (thx god), the two professions mechanic that I’m not very fond of, can be taken out of the loop, so what are we left with?
-??? = Ele+Thief
-??? = Ele+Warrior
-??? = Ele+Guardian
-??? = Ele+Mesmer
-????? = Ele+EngineerMake your bet! I’ll go for Ele+Thief : stealth burst air spike ele anyone???
Tempest seem melee focused,,
so I assume Ele+Engineer kits
or Ele + Warrior Physicals
I just thought of something.
What is Tempest is Ele/Necro and gets Elemental Minions?
Or how about Tempest = Ele/Warrior and gets Physicals
make them like Kits, but with a drop as well, that has a limited time to pick up. I actually wanted to play a conjure support ele when the game first came out.. that never worked out.. because people dont see a reason to pick up my conjures…
Do you all remember when that secondary burst skill ui was leaked in a picture?
I believe that was the Elite Spec…
May deal with some kind of Dual Wield/ Dual Strike mechanic of Thieves….
thoughts?
BTW do anybody still have that picture?
I believe the new Warrior Elite Spec is a Warrior/Thief
so it makes sense they will get Venom,, or Dual Wield skills…
I really really want a magical theme added to Warriors with Elite Specs.
I could see a Warrior-Mage Spell Breaker, using 1hander Scepter main hand,
Or Focus offhand…
I really not feeling Pistols or Daggers…
Speculation on new Skill Type for Elite Spec.
What you believe it will be?
Speculation, what new skill type will Elite Spec Druids get?
The class getting Shouts is the Necromancer

Marjory is the primary canadate we need to look at for the clues. And her story just BLEEDS ritualist. Everything about her from her colors to her detective work, who trained her with a sword and the fact that her sister’s soul is in her sword just leads me to believe that the necromancer is most likely getting spirits.
arent they about to make Spirits immobile? that would be pretty bad for a Melee elite spec dont you think?
can this be used while aimed at an ally instead of a enemy?
Kits are way to integral to the Engineer’s identity, pretty much a secondary class mechanic. I can accept tome kits as the base of a future elite spec, but not as part of vanilla guardian.
Kits could be renamed to be more general a term for all classes, such as sets.
It’s not really about the name. Engineers were balanced around kits and kits influence their playstyle the most.
A guardian with kits would be a heavy armoured engineer with a fixed tool belt and the ability to weapon swap.
At least ele’s elemental weapons try to be unique.
the point is, all classes are getting class skill types from other classes now. Engineers before this change, never had elite kits. These could be elite kits for us but with the trade off of locking 6-0 like before while in use.
This would give that elite spec a brand new way to play using their tomes.
whats the origin of this “Shout” theory people keep talking about?

Whats going to happen to Krait Obelisk Shard in HoT?
Yeah ill admit as a guardian i would definitly feel giant beams of light raining from the sky would be more my trump card than a dragon face popping out of the ground and munching on somebody
What? we put Dragonborn to shame with this…
Yeah this elite spec seem more tanky/damage.
I would like to see the core get a buff in support tho.
If you want support go virtues, honor or valor they have it coming out their ears.
Guardian currently lacks CC, spammable snares and offensive utility.
DH may not be perfect but it does offer some options.
Screw that, I am going full Tank DragonKnight build. I have it all planned out…
The concern people, myself included have with them is that they potentially make the base classes inferior. Not to mention we have no idea how long it will be before we see new specializations. I wouldn’t be suprised if we don’t see new ones for a good 6 months to a year after hot releases.
But based on what we have seen none of the announced elite specializations seems to make the base classes inferior, seeing as they don’t focus on the same thing.
The specializations add things that the base class could not do before. That doesn’t automatically make it superior seeing as you still lose out on a whole trait-line in order to use the Elite Specialization. The current DH (from the twitch stream) definitely makes base rangers obsolete. They out ranger them easily and that is a problem.
I disagree. Ranger has tons of support from other weapons, and their bow skills have longer range, and better burst and controlled knock back.

How did something so incredibly bad even make it to alpha, let alone beta? Base healing power is ZERO, and Ferocity from it? You see a plethora of Elementalists stacking healing power and wanting crit damage?
I guess it is supposed to represent the new, horrible, Air tree.
OP has a strong point tho…
We need both the Rez and Fall damage traits to either get non-rez/fall effects added to them, or put them in Mastery….

they dont tho. Look at Dragon Hunter and Guardian.
They simply have different roles that they are superior at.
Guardians are better support while Dragon Hunters are better tanks.
Hey can a developer chime in on if these will get buffed?

I believe
Engineer is getting = Guardian or Ele
Ranger is getting = Engineer or Ele or Guardian
Ele is getting = Guardian or Ranger or Thief
Warrior is getting = Thief or Engineer or Ranger
Thief is getting = Engineer or Warrior or Guardian
Necro is getting = Guardian or Ele or Warrior or Mesmer or Thief
Revenant is getting = Guardian or Necro or Ranger
Yeah this elite spec seem more tanky/damage.
I would like to see the core get a buff in support tho.
While this trait is amazing combined with heavy light guards dont have any other knockback other than the garbage 30second cd shield of absorption.
you confusing this with the grandmaster traits.
this cripples those that are knocked back.
The class getting Shouts is the Necromancer
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

There are several reasons to think this.
1. It would be the first Scholar class to gain access to them.
2. The most obvious choices for shouts already have them.
3. Npc Necromancers have leadership roles (Trahearne and Marjory)
4. It would address the issue of party-support that Necro’s lack in.
5. Lastly, the existence of a set of skills from GW1: Orders.Orders were a series of skills that Necromancers could use to apply specific effects to allies that triggered on landing a hit on the enemy. While I do not expect the exact effects to be applicable in GW2 gameplay, the name type would fit very well for a shout skill.
These were the GW1 skills:
Order of Apostasy: all allies remove an enchantment (read: boon) whenever they attack. 5s duration, lose 15% of your life-pool whenever a monk enchantment is removed.
This could be implemented as is to let every ally strip one boon for a total of 5 removals.
Order of Pain: Allies deal increased damage on attacks for 5s.
Could be a generic Might buff or vuln?
Order of Undeath: Minions deal increased damage on attacks for 5s, lose 2% max health whenever a minion attacks.
Not likely applicable, but the name could be re-purposed for a heal ability.
Order of the Vampire: allies steal X life on attacks for 5s.
Another possible heal ability.
So. Just sayin.
Necro’s will get shouts.
The problem with this theory is the role of the GreatSword… Is the Necro Elite Spec melee damage?
if so, it makes sense for their utilities and heals and elite from the Elite Spec to fit that role they trying to fill. Which I assume would be AoE damage. Physicals fit that, umm kits could fit that….conjures could fit that,,,,meditations could fit that, Manipulation could fit.
but how will Shouts address whats Necro’s missing?
Man I am liking this…
I been wanting to tank for a while now.
Shield of Courage + Communal Defense Retributive Armor +Signet of Courage Defenders Dogma + Bulwark+ Retaliatory Subconscious + Indomitable Courage + Retreat + Shelter + Shield of Wrath + Protectors Strike + Save Yourself+ Sanctuary
Man we have soo many cool tools now to build the ultimate Tank…. I may not go full Revenant after all now…..
kitten cool. thanks Anet…
I am hyped. But what core utilities fit with this Elite Spec?
SUGGESTION: Change to "Traps" mechanics
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Knighthonor.4061
There was talk about changes to Traps.
Well I had a neat idea. What if once traps are placed, the skill bar changes to allow for active triggering of traps?
whats your thoughts on this?
yes makes the most sense. or at least as Environmental weapons like eles. But prefer kits…
I guess my problem is I didn’t main a Guardian to play like a Ranger. If I wanted to play like a Ranger, then I would have main’d a Ranger.
We shall see how it pans out though…I still hate the name though.
Elite Specs dont need to use their special weapons.
Anet said vanilla classes will get the new boons/ conditions through Elite Specs…
Well did we get any?
yes I want taunts….
Wanted to run a potential idea past you all. Comments welcome.
Tome of Courage -> Signet of Courage
Passive: PBAoE Heal every 10 seconds.
Active: Light of DeliveranceTome of Wrath -> “Feel My Wrath”
Shout that grants Quickness and FuryWe like the idea of tomes and if we did this we would hope to bring them back in a future Elite Specialization.
Thoughts? Comments?
Thanks,
Jon
I want to keep the Mage/Sage theme to Tome of Wrath, and keep the long ranged attack.
I really would have liked that to stay as a Kit of some kind… (Environmental Weapon)
I like these change. But I do lke the Kit design of the original. but this would be more smooth. I just want to keep my Full heal and healing power. I like playing support..
? what,,, why would you want something nerfed over the name of it?
[tin foil hat] Necro will be getting banners
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I want Necro to get Physical skills. This could include a lunge (mobility), blast finisher, etc.
Mostly I just want to see Jory beat the crap out of some dragon minions.
YES YES YES….
problem I have with Spear of Justice is if its aim based like Staff #2, than this could be a problem…
I was one of the early people that criticize the dragon hunter Elite specialization with its Trap theme in nature.
but i have a little faith. ANET not going to throw us under the bus, Guardians. I trust them more now after the way they handled the “Trait Situation”.
I am sure Dragon Hunters and their traps will rock.
i am starting to feel the name as well. Cant wait for the full reveal.
#Cheer
Vanguard
DragonKnight
Priest
Patriot
I keep hearing talk about Traps changing in HoT. Can somebody explain how the Trap mechanics are planned to change?
Paragon.
Spear-using ranged sustained DPS and support, using burning attacks and chants (shouts that pulse) and refrains (effects that trigger when a boon ends/is removed) to help the party from back/middle line.
wtf? spear is only for underwater combat, you want them to make a whole new weapon along with a specialization? that’s stupid, think of an actual non watertype weapon
I realize it takes a genius like myself to realize something like this, but you could have a Spear work on land with a different set of skills than the water ones on the same class.
ARE YOU CRAZY?!
/mind Explode
Whats some changes to Weapon Skills you want?

Dragon Hunters use traps like a Ranger, and support elements of Rangers…lets not forget wing leap…
Thieves use bow and traps, too.
The style of support Dragonhunter offers is different from Ranger’s.
Wing leap.
yeah I am a bit confused by this description. Deflecting shots mid flight..
I dont know how well that will work in this game…
I want to Cry…. Thank goodness I am a Guardian and can meditate …..
