1v1 2v2 Deathmatch Arena

Knote.2904

There is no good reason for them to ignore optional game modes like this.

Make the game fun, then people play it, if people end up playing death match more than conquest and make it more competitive than conquest, then roll with it and start turning Death Match into your esports mode and balance for it…. this is assuming it works out that way.

Worst case scenario people just play it for fun on the side, what’s wrong with that?

Also what I find funny is people always say 2v2 and 3v3 arenas are terrible BECAUSE of healers, then when people suggest to have it in a game WITHOUT healers people so no it won’t work w/o healers…. it doesn’t make any sense.

I would LOVE to see how 2v2/3v3 goes in this game, even if it ends up horrible then oh well, don’t design a whole new map just for the mode then, just take what you have, modify them slightly to make a deathmatch mode and boom there you have it, don’t balance for it just let it play out and let people enjoy it.

Hi.

Still here, sort of. My family is in town and the fact is, my mother is quite demanding of my time (sorry if you’re reading this mum, I loves you).

The invitational is tomorrow. After that, I’ll be able to spend a bit more time on the forums. Also, I’ll talk to some devs about getting on here. Keep in mind though, any time that they spend posting on the forums takes away from the time that they are implementing. More posting = less features.

Hug it out

Awesome thanks. Please please please don’t let the hating put you guys off, it’s incredibly important for you guys to be vocal with us.

It’s probably the greatest thing about Riot and it does wonders. And even as some Riot employees would put it, gamers getting frustrated on the forums just shows they’re passionate about the game, which is a good thing.

If the devs can be transparent and open with the pvp community they can go about salvaging the game and making it even better much faster.

Even if you have to pick someone from the pool of top pvp’ers to help be your voice.

Phantasms Should Use Legendaries

in Mesmer

Posted by: Knote.2904

Knote.2904

But how would you show Legendaries on iWarden and iDefender? Since they use weapons Mesmers don’t have access to. And what about weapons (off-hands) that Mesmers use but phantasms don’t? Would suck for people who have Rodgort and Minstrel wouldn’t it?

Just make the phantasm use the legendary, is it really that big of a deal if Warden is spinning around dual wielding Minstrels slinging notes everywhere as opposed to a basikittentle axe? Hell it makes more sense for a Minstrel barrier to be reflecting projectiles instead of axes.

iMage would just have a rodgort in it’s hand and would make it’s attack bolt fiery.

The difference between clones having legendaries and phantasms is the way phantasms attack like iZerker and iWarden.

Quip would actually be noticed on a Mesmer too, Quip iDuelist? Yes please.

Sure iDefender/iDisenchanter wouldn’t change because they’re not tied to weapons, our normal Phantasms are, they’re weapon attacks, and legendary weapons change our weapon attacks, thus Phantasms should have the effects of our legendaries.

We really need better legendary customization, like tinting.

Basically like how Champion Online has it, you can tint the color of pretty much any ability, if you have fire skills, you can make it green fire, pink fire, blue fire, yellow fire anything.

Say you’re a mesmer that wants to use the torch but doesn’t want regular fire, make it pink fire, then all your torch related skills become pink.

The dual skills shouldn’t be the end all skill to use for everything.

It should have 2 of 3 things, atleast for Larcenous.

1. Damage
2. Utility
3. Defense

It can lose number 1 and still be very good, free dodge and boon steal which is huge and a little bit of dmg, then if you want to do dmg, sit there and use auto’s that’s what they’re there for.

Either that or it loses one of the other things.

The Flaws Of Zergplay

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Knote.2904

Knote.2904

I’m also against zerg play, but I disagree with one of your points.

1. No meaningful difficulty will ever be present in a fight.

I don’t think this is so. With thoughtful design and other constraints on encounters, even world bosses can be challenging if they give enough tasks for players to do that are necessary for event success. Proper enemy scaling that includes new skills (or new enemies) that are better at dealing with massive amounts of players that don’t pay attention will also help. Making it so player attack don’t affect the bosses unless certain conditions are met will further add strategy to the encounters. Limiting zone player cap size can also help (i.e., the size needed before creating an overflow). Unfortunately the overflow system does not retain the state of the zone, so this is an undesirable option for many reasons.

I agree the events aren’t challenging 1, but I don’t think this to be an unsolvable problem, just an engineering problem in need of a solution. Whether or not Arena Net has the creative and technical resources available to solve it, I can’t say.

1 – Though some do fail even with a zerg, like the risen priest of grenth event.

Yes you’re definately right.

I should’ve elaborated that most “good” mechanics they design for a boss will be trivialized by zerging and would need to actually put in the effort to design a good encounter all together.

I was actually going to give an example of a dragon fight such as Tequatl, back in beta when I first heard of the fight, I thought it would going to require true teamwork and effort to beat, because it has so many different objective that people need to be on top of.

Siege equipment needed to help dps the dragon, mobs that attack the siege equipment need to be stopped, if siege dies then people need to escort siege repair squads to the siege equipment. The giant laser needed to stun and make the dragon vulnerable needs to be defended til it charges up. The giant exploding abominations the dragon summons need to be kited and dealt with or else it kills everyone in a large area.

Dragon finger tentacles that throw people toward their death need to be avoided and killed, bone walls need to be destroyed so siege can help DPS the dragon, poison aoe’s dropped on the ground need to be avoided and you need good condition cleansing to deal with it, well telegraphed fears need to be stabilized/cleansed/avoided or you run into fingers/aoe/abominations and die. Etc.

This is what the big events should be like, there needs to be difficulty and teamwork, and the rewards should be in BEATING the encounter, not making the mob spawns and abominations drop loot so people ignore the dragon to farm the mobs or anything like that.

Knote.2904

What is there there to “deal with” regardin champ camping?

You should all whack the champ and the top 5 contributors would get rewarded. Want loot? Up your game. Simple as that.

Maybe not this extreme, but I’m starting to think something like this needs to be added, and not just to zergs.
Maybe you get less of a reward for your mob tagging that gets you a bronze in events. No chance of exotic or certain level stuff. Want the good stuff, earn a gold.
Still doesn’t fix the mindlessness of zergs, but would prevent leeching and going a_f_k (edit: seriously this kitten filter is a bit too sensitive)

Something similar should apply to world events, IMO. People who loiter in the swamp, won’t do pre-events (some of whom also complain in map chat how long the pre-events are taking other people to do), whack behemoth a couple times and get the same as those who ran to all 3 portal locations outside the swamp, for example. You do less, you should get less.

No, that’s the opposite of what needs to happen.

Increasing the competition that already exists (tagging) is rewarding selfish gameplay even more than it already does, that’s a horrible idea.

Champs/events should just be made more difficult so you CAN’T just sit there with auto attack on and afk, and if you want your rewards you’re going to have to do as much as you can to help beat it, which means teamwork. Everyone sitting there with auto attack on no matter how many people shouldn’t suffice, should atleast have to move and dodge aoe’s enough that’s it’s pretty active, and support/rezzing people becomes important.

Here’s an example, the big Centaur event chain in Harathi that ends up with a pretty tough boss mob that chucks fireballs and aoe’s that hurt really really hard, you actually need some teamwork with the random people there to beat him, constantly rezzing people and doing your best to avoid getting downed from the aoe’s or fireballs when he targets you, while keeping your dps up.

Tagging isn’t an issue with that fight, and the reward only come after you can finally beat him and get his loot + the chest, there is no other weak champs or regular mobs spawning constantly for people to farm so they can get tons of loot even if they fail.. No, if you can’t beat him, you get NOTHING, thus if you want loot you have to work together and beat a tough boss.

That’s how it should be. Compared to say Grenth chain, I remember doing it back in november when it was great because it spawned a crap load of mobs for loot, and that’s all that mattered, who cares if you beat it? If you lose it restarts and you get to farm even more mobs. That’s an example of how it SHOULDN’T be.

The game rewards failing too much because all the loot is tied to mob drops and tagging, and in term encourages everyone to be selfish.

This game needs a shift AWAY from gold

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Knote.2904

Knote.2904

That will not happen because gold is where Anet makes it’s money.

They just need to make the rest of the game profitable so people can do whatever they enjoy and still make “farm” and progress toward w/e gold based goals they have.

Then if people decide to ignore a new event because it’s actually boring Anet should get the message and make it better.

Or it’ll backfire like with dynamic events where they didn’t make it better they just abandoned it completely lol.

A lvl 80 fractal player is poor as hell.
A top 100 pvp player has nothing
A good www player has more expenses than incomes.

This is exactly the problem, only one part of the game is profitable.

You should be making decent money doing anything you enjoy in the game.

IT’S PART OF THEIR MANIFESTO for crying out loud, endgame : do what you want to do, not be on a gold/zerg treadmill.

Fixing burn could fix all problems?

in PvP

Posted by: Knote.2904

Knote.2904

The problem with Dhuumfire isn’t that giving burn to necro’s is too strong, it’s that it’s a passive proc that has good uptime, but with a short enough duration to pretty much not be counterable, it’s just a flat passive and massive boost to necro condition dmg.

If burn was left to a new torch off hand for Necro as active skills, and traits for it tied to the Death Shroud tree it’d be a different story.

Also making burning easier to cleanse would probably be a buff to burning, since having too many ways to apply it is usually a waste, if it’s balanced around being cleansed often then having all those ways to apply it become useful and it doesn’t really change anything.

The way conditions were put into the game just don’t fit having condition focused dmg builds, they either should’ve been just complimentary, or actually be designed to be used for builds that focus 100% on condition dmg. Things like burn not having any magnitude stacking like bleeds, and there being condition caps and all shows it wasn’t really meant to be any condition dmg focused builds.

Conditions just need to be less passive and more active and have less sustained application but be a bit more bursty.

Compare your average condition spamming build to a Death Blossom build, what’s the difference?

Smart "Out of Range" Ground Targeting

in Suggestions

Posted by: Knote.2904

Knote.2904

Implement an option that lets our ground target ability cast at maximum range when we try to cast them out of range.

So if I use a 900 range blink or aoe attack and I cast it at 950 range, normally it wouldn’t work until I fish around for the magic 900 range boundary, with this setting using the ability at 950 range will just make it cast at 900 range in the direction you pointed at.

This would be a MASSIVE quality of life change for ground target users, especially if you need to spam it a lot. No matter how much you get good at it you’ll always have that annoying issue of fishing for the max range line.

Persistent Illusions

Knote.2904

I prefer things the way they are because the AI is dumber than a box of rocks. Ive ‘had clones spawning from dodges that completely ignore my target and attack a rabbit that’s actually further away. I really don’t want then sticking around.

Yeah for some odd reason, clones generated through dodges tend to attack randomly or the target nearest them if there are many enemies around and not the one you’re attacking or targetting when you dodged.

That’s because that’s how that trait has always worked, that has nothing to do with AI.

It’s been suggested that the trait spawns the clones on target since beta but yeah… it spawns on the closest target to you instead.

And to the above poster, If you don’t want the trait then don’t take it, that simple, it’d a nice staple for PvE mesmer and a huge quality of life change.

If you can miraculously maintain 3 phantasms in a big zerg of mobs when deserve to have them continue on after it dies lol, that would be rare.

Phantasms Should Use Legendaries

in Mesmer

Posted by: Knote.2904

Knote.2904

I disagree. Phantasms are not clones and are not meant to mimic everything about your character. Clones are meant to be mirror images, phantasms are their own thing. It makes more sense to have phantasms wielding their own specific weapon than copying the Mesmer. It would also remove the purple mist effect from the weapons, since the weapon itself is what applies the mist effect (phantasms use the mist weapons specifically). It would make the phantasms look a bit off, IMO.

It wouldn’t even really be feasible for all phantasms to do this either. There are a number of phantasms that don’t use the same weapon as the type of weapon they’re created from (Warden uses axes and not a focus, Warlock uses a scepter and not a staff, Whaler uses a speargun and not a trident). Not to mention the Defender and Disenchanter which aren’t even weapon-based at all but utilities.

Legendaries are legendaries, who cares?

They should show for phantasms.

Mesmers barely have any attacks to show the effects off, getting a quip is a complete waste on a mesmer.

And who cares if phantasmal warden would adopt the legendary focus instead of axes, it would be fantastic.

Legendary swordsman could have lightning effects every time it’s leaping too.

DEs can tell a story, a few of them do that.

I think ArenaNet gave up, though, after learning that most players are more interested in grinding than playing through a story. It’s not that DEs can’t be improved, rather that ArenaNet sees no point in doing so.

They ditched DE (along with most of the manifesto) at the first sign of trouble, and turned toward the grind/farm model that worked for e.g. WoW. Can’t blame them for taking the safer path, but they now have 0 respect from me.

They should’ve (and still can) just fix what they have, but for some reason they can’t see it, or atleast shown they can’t see it.

Seriously just make the rewards actually good for WINNING events and reward teamwork instead of mob tagging, and then make the events a little more interesting more diverse, rather than just “spawn a wave of mobs, then do it agian”.
