Let Ascended Weapon Replace Precursors

I completely agree! Unfortunately, Anet doesn’t take many “good” suggestions and implement them into the game. I’ve seen some absolutely fantastic suggestions for content that were never even considered an option by Anet.

I know there’s probably like a 0.001% chance they’ll even read this, a 0.00001% chance they’ll even consider it, and a 0.0000000000001% it’ll even happen, but the opportunity showed itself (new ascended weapon crafting) and I figured I’d post it anyway.

Let Ascended Weapon Replace Precursors

Slightly crazy idea, but since Ascended weapons are supposed to “bridge the gap” between legendaries and exotics AND since people want craftable precursors and all that jazz, how about making precursors ascended weapons that can be crafted.

Or rather let ascended weapons replace precursors in the Legendary “recipe”.

Something like that. 2 birds 1 stone.

Precursors would still be that “luck” factor to let you finish the legendary faster.

Edit : Here’s an updated idea.

Recipe : Ascended Weapon + 3 other mats = Account Bound/Ascended version of a precursor.

The 3 other mats could either just be more expensive mats that in total make this craftable precursor worth about 500g or so.

Or the 3 other mats could be account bound items that you have to earn through a bunch of difficulty content so it’s like an actual “quest” and isn’t just as simple as tossing gold at it.

Then you would have a nice flow :

1.) Hit 80
2.) Buy Exotic (and use it til you get mats for your Ascended Weapon)
3.) Craft Ascended Weapon (and use it til you get the 3 other mats for precursor)
4.) Craft Asc. Precursor (and use it til you get mats for legendary)
5.) Craft Legendary

Now you have a nice flow from exotic to ascended to precursor to legendary…. It’s not about making it cheaper or easier to get, but it’s much less infuriating and is more rewarding this way and has a nice flow.

It’s a legendary….

Their argument was stupid, so is the title of the thread. However, there are good arguments why different gamemodes harm the game.

Most importantly, various PvP modes will break the balance. Professions and skills are OP in one gamemode, but absolutely useless in another. In GW2 the 0/30/30/10/0 D/P thief is a prime example: borderline OP in WvW, but useless in sPvP. Riot tried to add another gamemode to League of Legends. Is anyone still playing dominion? Riot has learnt its lesson from Dominion. ANet has learnt its lesson from GW. It’s time to stop the requests for different gamemodes.

LoL is a bad example, summoners rift has WAY more depth than a conquest map 5v5.

Hell you just made their point actually, Dominion IS conquest and dominion was pretty fail for LoL because of how few specific niche champs dominated in it mobility or bunkering.

You guys need to kill your displeasure topics with fire, because I think there has been more than enough complaints about this. I’m sure anet got the message, and quite frankly I feel the same amount of frustration on receiving the birthday gift and reading the complaints to be on par with each other.

Anet will never get the message.

They’ll get feedback and misread it as something else and instead of fixing it will just run away from the problem and make things worse.

The only thing most ppl will get from threads like this is how some ppl think “GW1 is soo much better then GW2” over all painfully backwards thinking. You cant get over the fact of the old idea “you can never go back.”

Um…. it’s not about turning GW2 into GW1, it’s about taking a small THING from GW1 that was far superior to the relative THING in GW2.

In this case the anniversary gifts.

Minis should get some bonuses.

its very bad to get free stuff, people complain when it doesn’t meet their standards, then QQ and talk about GW2 being dead to them and moving on to another game. lulz.

It’s not free since we all had to pay for the game…

Wait wait now that is just some of the most backwards thinking i seen to date. You PAY for the game that is the box game just the first bit with out any updates or add ons that it. Every thing else to date all the update live events items they send out IS free.

Which is payed for by players paying more after they bought the game, and people farming gold.

NOP ppl pay to get exclusive items in the game it helps the game out but your money is being used for the exclusive items not the game it self.

That’s not how it works.

So you’re saying that the “Free” things like this gift are done by employees that are off the clock and not being payed to make it?

That’s like saying those PBS specials that ask for $400 for a book, is using that $400 to make said books.

There are people that will dump money into the game because they love it and want to support Anet even if they don’t care that much about the stuff their buying.

That fact that this game has so many players that just bend over and take it is why things improve at a snails pace… =/

More like because so many ppl get bent out of shape because of small things like this is what keeping things at a snails pace and why they will never tell use any thing of real worth because they do not want ppl to rages.
“I got a free thing i did not like it so i will say why give me a free thing at all” way of thinking is the WORST thing for having improvements in a game.
Should they be spending there time making sure every person is happy with a once a year small side gift from them? Should they maybe spending time to make sure things work well before that? You chose time is finite.

You know Anet has this complex that nearly everything they do is pristine right? You can see it anytime they talk about anything in game.

Players like you just fuel the fire.

And ALL the good feedback is just ignored as “noise” haters are making.

Lol and not telling people what’s coming and hyping it up just to let everyone down AGAIN is what will make people rage, moreso than warning them ahead of time…. But like I said, Anet is good at that.

It’s ironic really, people argue against anything that improves the game, which just makes it worse than it could be.

I remember the same people fighting me on making Champ Loot better on release, makes my head hurt.

OMG… 14 Queen Jennahs – really OP? REALLY? i think maybe someone just make a post about you and how you have 14 different characters and is complaining about the free 1 year gifts. ::golf clap::

And he paid for each of those 14 characters. If ANet appreciated his business like they did in gw1, the presents would have been a lot less disappointing and a step forward instead of backwards.

lol thats stupid, actually anet does appreciate business, thats why every so often they send out gifts to player who spend $$ at the gem shop. kitten s. his fault he needed alllll those slots for whatever reason. he decided to purchase it, deal with it, anet isnt going to think you are special and reward you for such purchase.

You obviously weren’t a GW1 player. The point is, in GW1, they did. Every character got it’s own birthday present with a random mini. They’re step backwards shows their lack of appreciation now compared to before.

That’s because Anet doesn’t have the same passion for their game anymore, and most of the passionate people that used to be there aren’t there anymore, it’s really sad.

Instead of :

“Oh what would be a really fun and nice gift our players would really enjoy for the anniversary?!?!?!”

It’s :

“Ugh, anniversary is coming up, players will probably expect something. You there, think of something to give them as a gift and ship it out”

Thus we get the half- kittened stuff they put out.

Being teased with…. OOOH YOU GET A PRESENT! Just to be let down compared to not even getting the idea of a getting a present is awful.

Hype followed by a huge dissapointment is something this game is absolutely great at doing.

The only thing this present gave was a double booster who’s only good use is to be consumed while doing more boring zerg/grind content.

When ANET says we listened to the players they really mean: We looked up the graphs stating x amount of people did y in z time. So lets try and please those players.

Its like this is not even a game company any more. Their original game has been completely trashed by such horrible design decisions over the course of the last year.

Where the core values at game launch were:
Fun, build variety, storytelling, action combat

They are now:
Progression, time gating, farming, zerg fests

True. There was a blog post before release talking about how ArenaNet defined success, considering that GW2 does not have a number of subscribers in which to base it; the conclusion of the blog was that success could be measured on how fun the game was.

That was a falsehood. We have seen multiple times ArenaNet mentioning how they saw a given piece of content as successful if a lot of people played it. This is a considerably different metric – it can show that content that a lot of people grind, farm and exploit is a huge success, even if those same people don’t see it as being fun.

IMO, that’s what happened. ArenaNet saw that the best dynamic events in the game take a lot of work to create, and are one of the least played features in GW2. They saw that the personal storyline was something very expensive (all those voice actors are very, VERY expensive) yet it’s proportionally empty considering the rest of the game. And then they saw how the content that is the easiest to make – grind – happens to be the most popular. So, they chose the logical path – instead of trying to make a good game, ArenaNet decided to do the same thing all other MMORPGs do and make a grind-based game. Hence all the grind-based content we have been receiving, with more to come soon (ascended weapons and etc).

I don’t really know who’s at fault. ArenaNet, for giving up artistic integrity (I don’t expect most people here to understand what is that) in order to make easy money? The farmers, grinders, addicts and exploiters, for flocking to a game that was originally meant for a different target audience? Said target audience, for simply not playing enough of the “fun” content in the game in order to show ArenaNet how the better content could also be the most played content?

Probably all of the above.

There is nothing wrong with farming and grinding. Even exploiting is going to happen no matter what game you make.

It comes down to bad game design for not compensating for that.

The unrewarding “fun” content you’re talking about is fun the first couple of times, it’s not that amazing to begin with, that is part of the problem, and if it’s not rewarding either then of course it will be left in the dust.

You can’t just make something and say “oh well it’s kinda fun that’s good enough right?”, unless it’s the most well designed fun thing with a lot of replayability (like GOOD pvp) then it’s eventually going to be ignored w/o rewards, that’s just how it is.

So I put the blame on the designers, not the players.

No the charr are the lowest played races for many many more aesthetic reasons than armor clipping. The amount of aesthetic mistakes made in their design is astounding, especially coming from a team of industry professionals.

I said Charr Armor Issues, that sort of umbrellas not only clipping issues but everything else that’s wrong with it. It is definately horrendous.

Aesthetics does not solely mean armor. The Charr were designed to look ferocious and driven by emotion, yet at the same time cunning, logical, and ambitious. Arenanet failed to convey any of that in their design. Between the ridiculously exaggerated overbites, lack of facial detail and expressions, the slurred speech patterns, and the gravity-defying posture the Charr look stupid (literally), unthreatening, emotionless, and frankly inbred, regardless of what armor they are wearing.

That’s because they didn’t even try to, besides cultural stuff.

Everything is made for humans then stretched over charr.

You’re still talking about the armor, he’s talking about the actual models and such.

You want to know why else, I find? At least in WvW people want to play asura due to a potential size advantage – smaller and harder to spot rather than large, broad, and easy to see moving. I had it explained to me a couple times.

Oh my bad, I actually like the charr design though, the armor is absolutely terrible though which is why I gave up on a charr.

Dynamic Events :

If you look at the surveys done recently it seems that DEs are one of the things people like doing the most.

Charr Armor :

Not sure how you can be sure that low Charr pop is due to armor clipping.
Usually, it’s not a good idea to base one’s criticism on an assumption; since you like analogies, it would be like building a castle on unstable terrain.
Clipping is also very present on other races such Asura, but you see a ton of Asuras around, which pretty much proves this theory wrong.

Then again, a lot of modeling and texturing needs to happen to fix clipping; devs don’t simply hit a big red “fix all clipping” button.
While this is somewhat important to a few players, there are much more important things than a piece of your armor clipping into your toes.
I’d rather have those graphics creator make new maps and skins.

Spvp :

This is indeed true.
Everyone requests new modes, but Anet only gives new maps.
I guess they either don’t want to invest developing time into new modes, or it’s low on their priority.

Farming

Every single MMO “nerfs” farming exploits such as the Gauntlet. It’s expected.
Actually, I would be pretty mat at Anet if I went offline a month, they made an exploitable event and let everyone abuse it so that when I come back the economy is destroyed and I’m way behind everyone.
I want Anet to keep their eyes closely on those things.

As for farming, GW2 actually rewards you more for doing a bunch of different things than farming a single thing over and over; if you are into brainless farming I’d suggest Diablo 3.

They let the guantlet “Exploit” if you wanna call it, go on for a long time, and allowed tons of people to abuse it, that’s part of the problem. The other problem is that they nerfed to near uselessness so it can’t be farmed AT ALL, except for some daily silver.

I totally disagree with you on farming variety, there’s usually only one really good way to farm at a time right now that’s champ farming and clockwork champ farming. I’m afraid they would go and nerf champ loot instead of buffing the other areas of the game.

My example of DE’s was talking about when Anet said they weren’t going to bother with events because people weren’t playing them.

Asura armor issues aren’t even close to as bad as Charr armor issues, armor on Asura is just small, tons of armor looks terrible on Charr because it’s just stretched over their model.

Here’s some links about charr issues :

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/races/charr/The-agony-of-Charr-armor-Long-read/page/2#post2660707

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/races/charr/A-net-dissapointed-in-lack-of-Charr

I personally also gave up on both my charr and asura because of armor and (asura weapon) issues.

Considering the “treadmill/drive” in this game is all about cosmetics, is it really surprising Charr is low pop?

Knote.2904

I hope I’m not the only one that sees the twisted logic Anet seems to use in their design direction decisions once in a while, I feel it’s very detrimental to the game, if any Anet employees actually read this, please please please re-consider the way you look at things. And thank you for GW2. That said here are some examples.

Dynamic Events :

People aren’t doing the dynamic events (because they’re pretty boring/generic and aren’t rewarding)…. so Anet decides to add 40 more of the same thing. People continue ignoring them… Anet Logic : Stop making events I guess.

Instead of just adding more of the same boring hooplah, you should’ve instead went back and fixed what you had.

Charr Armor :

They’re not worried about fixing charr armor, because the population for that race is so small…. and it’s small because of the armor issues.

That’s similar to not giving medicine to a sick person, who’s health is rapidly declining because their health is rapidly declining anyway, and it’s rapidly declining because you’re not giving them medicine.

Spvp :

People want more game modes. Anet refuses because it will split up the already small pvp population. A large reason there is a small pvp population is because there’s only 1 game mode, more twisted logic.

I also forsee Anet’s logic dooming spvp soon : “People didn’t like our esport event (because the game isn’t ready for esport yet), I guess we’ll just give up on Spvp completely”. Instead of fixing the problem, I fear they will instead just give up on it.

The game needs to be fun and varied for everyone (including casual pvp’ers) first before you stuff it into the esports hole.

Farming :

People want to make money, but hate doing the same boring thing for it (there is only 1 current way to farm at any given time). Anet Logic : Nerf the current farming method to uselessness and introduce a new and equally mind-numbingly boring way to farm.

For example Gauntlet farming, was way too good for too long then nerfed to uselessness, then they introduce Clockwork zerg farming, insanely profitable as well, equally boring and mindless, soon that will disappear and be replaced with some just as bad again.

Instead, they should just made the rest of the game rewarding instead of just one single activity so there is variety in things to do if you feel like making decent money/loot.

I’m sure there are plenty more examples, but this is what I’ve scrounged up for now. Post more examples if you have some.

I completely disagree with your post, Duke. The point is to make viewing it ENTERTAINING.

Watching a football game is about the entertainment, not trying to deduce the base stats of players, their weight, the trajectory of the ball, the plays, the coach’s words, and so on. That’s just CRAZY!

Most people watch for the entertainment value of it, and these shoutcasters of this current tournament (still going on at this post) is entertaining. No reason to see individual numbers flying, stats and UI cluttering up the actual content: THE FIGHT! From the player-view camera, you can see the actual fight, and it’s entertaining to watch.

The only thing of your post I can agree with is that the overhead map cameras needs a better view.

Let’s take a football game people enjoy, then set off a ton of fireworks during the entire game, and increase the amount of players on field by 5.

Is it still fun or even possible to watch?

Just because he’s a kitten doesn’t make him any less right, a lot of top pvp’ers tend to be “rough around the edges” and if Anet uses that as an excuse to ignore his advice they’re stupider than I thought.

Guy 1 starts walking towards a cliff with a steep drop off unknowingly.

Guy 2 says “Hey f***t**d stop walking that way you’re gonna fall of a cliff moron.”

Guy 1 “Wow that is just rude why would I listen to you?”

Guy 1 falls off the cliff…

Combo Field Creators Need Credit

This is mainly for mesmers, but the people that create a combo field need to be given credit when people use finishers in them, and I don’t necessarily mean they owner needs to be given ownership of the conditions it procs, but they should share the credit with whoever used the finisher.

It’s really depressing when a mesmer drops a chaos field and people proc a ton of confusion/armors from it but gets zero credit for it while everyone else reaps the benefits, the person who made the combo field should atleast get some partial credit it would make Mesmer’s life so much easier in PvE since they lack in the aoe department.

Time to buff other aspects of mesmer

Mind Stab needs to be bigger and be a blast finisher, or atleast make it bigger and give it more dmg.

Chaos Armor needs to have longer lasting boons/debuffs now that they completely kitten it with the ICD, 3 seconds of boon/debuff is nothing when it only procs every 1 second at MOST, it was only good when being hit by tons of small hits anyway, this would be a good change so slower hits are punished.

Sceptre needs some serious help, mainly just the auto, it’s just awful, clone spawn doesn’t make sense, it’s slow, it does no dmg, it’s a condition weapon… just wtf? Why is this not fixed yet?

If they changed combo fields to give the owner credit for people using finishers in it mesmers would be so much better off in PvE aoe, laying down a chaos field and getting credit for all the confusion it pops would be amazing, atleast make it SHARE the credit between the mesmer and others.

I’m so kittening kitten ed off.

I not only did 3 gambit achievement and strugar achievement multiple times successfully and kittening nothing.

Stuck at 10/11 for kittening ever.

They should just give everyone 11/11 this is so frustrating.

And here goes the ecto price...

I don’t see how it will go back to normal. This just created even more demand w/o offering more supply, unless I’m missing something?

Ecto’s are overused as it is.

I suggest Anet makes dungeons/fractals drop more Ecto/T6 mats to help balance it out, and it makes them more rewarding at the same time, 2 birds 1 stone anyone?

Probably was a bad idea to upgrade the legendaries w/o providing better means of getting the precursor.

Now the demand is just even more ridiculous hehe.

How does Chill work?

If an ability you have is cooling down from 15 seconds….

15…. one second later… 14…. one second later…. 13..

Then you get hit with chill

13…. (1.6) seconds later…. 12…. (1.6) seconds later…..11

Chill falls off.

11…… one second later 10…… one second later 9….

Sorry, Anet...

Gotta be honest, I prefer not having stupid amounts of skills to decide between. I got enough of that in GW1 and WoW. Admittedly, having more skills will be nice, so long as they don’t go overboard.

As for combat, I actually like the combat in this game. Why? Because general any monster that could be considered a boss is probably smart enough to think ‘I should beat on someone other then this tank that keeps getting healed…’.

Then pick 8 and don’t choose anymore….

Just because you don’t want to have to think about which skills to use doesn’t mean the rest of us should suffer with super shallow customization. =/

We need more ways to get T6 Mats and Gobs...

It’s really just that there’s too few skills and customization, that’s it imo. I really hope the new skills they’re adding don’t dissapoint.
