Can 80+ Condition Necros kill Tequatl Rising?

They really need to just make condition caps be for each player.

I’m sick of being pigeonholed into power builds, literally cuts my few build choices in half.

Hell as a mesmer Staff is pretty much worthless in PvE.

^ fresh air is not instant burst..the 15 minor is that triggers when swapping to air and hits for 1-2k is an istant burst
The trait is godsent in so many ways for the ele that if they touch it ill go kill myself (lol not really ). It basically makes tha att rotation unpredictable and gives you the room to effectively use your air spells at the right time. That has nothing to do with instant damage which btw for the ele is only in a single weapon that is scepter!
In fact i ll make a petition for fresh fire, earth ,water(maybe too op ??! lol )

I know, but it’s not about trying to beat Ele down, it’s that unpredictable instant burst like that isn’t very healthy for the game, and Ele used to be (well still is) the best in well telegraphed attacks.

Like for instance back in the day when S/D fire burst combo was popular, it’d be either a stun/kd or signet of earth immobilize with Dragon/Phoenix/Fire Grab combo, VERY telegraphed except for maybe the immobilize or w/e, but you had plenty of time to react to the incoming attacks, and those attacks were hard to get off w/o the CC.

They should try to make the other classes follow that example a little bit more.

Personally I think the marks should have like a 0.5-0.75 delay when they’re laid down, sort of like Karthus Lay Wastes from LoL, that on top of the better “telegraph” from the staff animation and it could be easy to read and react to.

See I just posted this idea right before you and I was thinking.. They should reduce the cast time of the mark to .25 seconds and have the rest of the cast time become the marks activation time on the ground. This could allow for a huge fast DPS burst to those not careful but would bring balanced point control to players who save their dodges or have clever positioning.

Aww yeah I didn’t notice that haha.

Also this might not be an easy solution, but I think conditions need to be a little bit less sustained a little bit more bursty in terms of application, and the passive condition removal needs to be looked at, theres just too much passiveness in both application and removal of conditions.

Taking Necro Sceptre as an example, you could backload the conditions a little more on the 3rd attack in the chain and slightly reduce the condition dmg from the first 2.

Like shave a second off the bleeds on the first 2 attacks, then stick an extra bleed on the third hit along with the poison.

Or, reduce the bleeds on the first 2 attacks by 2 seconds, then REPLACE the poison on the third hit with 2 bleed stacks at a longer duration.

Then make Feast of Corruption apply 3-4s poison based on how many conditions are on the target. This way poison isn’t being applied passively by auto attacks, the condition dmg on the auto attacks is back loaded a bit more, and the poison application is more in the player’s control.

List of skills that need better visual clues

in PvP

Knote.2904

Yeah there should be a clear telegraph vs effect with the CC.

The shorter and more of an “interupt” the skill is the faster, if not instant, and the long stuff shouldn’t be shorter than a second, maybe 3/4 second at most.

Also the visual clue for Doom is pointless, the fact that you’re feared after the necro just popped death shroud is clear enough, but it does nothing to help you avoid it.

Personally I think they should just get rid of the 50% fear trait and just rework the current fears so Doom is still instant but short so it’s an interupt, then the other fears will be longer. Or if you want it to be a long fear then it needs some kind of longer telegraph or something.

I’d probably add Fresh Air to Ele since it’s burst w/o ANY telegraph of any kind.

There’s also the aoe/cleanse heal for Rangers that’s super fast like Healing Turret.

Necro Flesh Golem doesn’t really have a good telegraph other than the generic cast animation from the owner that gives no tell that the pet is gonna charge, I think it should just be an instant command like the other necro pets, then have the flesh golem have an obvious charge-up animation like the Shadow Fiend sort of does.

Mesmer GS and ele burst is basically impossible to avoid. Also standing 1200 away spamming gs is hardly skill based, difficult or risky as a mesmer. The only thing shutting it down is OP condi spam and brokenly OP s/d thief. The ele burst is pretty much undodgable and is aoe. Again its bad atm just because s/d thief just owns them and condi spam owns them. It doesn’t change that the damage is way too high. 1 shotting people isnt a good thing.

I’m just wondering what part of mesmer/ele burst is unavoidable? What builds are you specifically referring to?

I’m guessing he’s referring to the new Fresh Air trait. It’s a step backwards since Ele is probably the best class in terms of well telegraphed attacks that require CC to really combo together.

Fresh Air is COMPLETELY instant burst.

It’s amusing seeing someone complain about the Mesmer GS considering it’s inferior to the staff as far as our most efficient burst builds are concerned (shatter). The GS will only outperform the staff+s/x combo in a phantasm build, which already suffers from being considerably inferior to shatter builds in group fights, essentially making it a specialized dueling build, which tPvP is not based around, anyway.

The only argument you can make for the GS being too powerful would rely on the notion that ANet start balancing around hotjoin, which is even more laughable than proposing that the GS is over-powered in the first place and can effectively be “spammed from range” against any half-decent player. The very act of using the weapon robs the Mesmer of a substantial about of mobility and defense (staff, sword, scepter, etc).

Yeah I wish the weapon was a little better and wasn’t so niche. It’s sort of like warrior rifle, it’s really not that great overall but only if you want long ranged burst/spike.

Mesmer GS burst is pretty massive from a long range but that’s all it accomplishes.

Removing Hotjoin shouldn’t be hard though. Many would agree on this. Hotjoin is more pve than it is pvp. People just farm it for their achievments/titles/ranks. And it hurts the pvp scene more than it does anything good for it. Except maybe the custom arena’s used for player tournaments/scrimming.

hotjoins are great to kill time between queues or just jump in with a new build to try out some stuff and iron it out.

and sometimes, people want mindless zergy fun. why would removing features help?

TBH I’d like to see one of the more casual pvp modes from GW1 like JQ/FA to replace it, I played those maps SOOOOOOOOOOOO much with so many crazy builds it was a blast.

we have them (sorta). they’re the seasonal activities. only problem is that they have different skill sets and they’re only VS randoms.

BTW, i feel obligated to mention that GW1’s JQ is pretty much what we have now as GW2 conquest lol.

Not from what I remember playing.

JQ was more like a keep defense than conquest.

there are areas that need improvement to make visibility easier to allow people to watch and understand what’s going on, that’s a big one that jumps right out at you for sure.

Could you imagine if mesmers were in the same meta as the petting zoo?

and minion master necros?

and spirit weapon guardians?

O_o

Our guild held a tiny casual pvp tournament today in a custom arena for fun, and in the end ended up just going it at in like a 4v4, had spirit weapon guardians and mesmers……. was a completely mess TBH lol. Being able to hide nameplates on pets (except for mesmer clones) would be nice though.

Since everyone else is suggesting visual improvements,
Necromancer marks, IMO, should have a distinct signet-ish icon when casting. I mean, as it stands, every mark is pretty much equally deadly and you’re forced to dodge each one no matter which it is, but it would be nice to know if their Reaper’s Mark went on cooldown or not for example.
When versing a Warrior, when I react and dodge his Eviscerate or Hammer Burst, I know I’m safe for the next 9 seconds (unless he weapon swaps) and can act accordingly.
Against a Necro? I can’t possibly count their cooldowns…because, well, they all have the same animations..

This is assuming ANET doesn’t want to spend the resources to completely rework the Necro’s animations.

Nods, I agree. Some of those are hard to see, or all use the same animation.

The marks themselves may have different effects once they’re placed on the ground, but that doesn’t help if the mark instantly hits you or an ally.

Or, better yet, simply emphasize the color glow of the hand which swings while casting (Chillblains and Putrid have this but are barely noticable/distinguishable)
Make it similar to Heals or Moa/Mass Invis which are readable even on Asuras most times.

Countless number of games against Necros and 400+ games on Necro and I only just now noticed they had this “hidden” feature.

Nods. The reason you’re noticing the heal/elites is because they have their own cast effects (the blue glow for the heals, for instance) when they’re used. If we put that on all the marks, that’s 5 more skills using those effects…which means you’d no longer be able to differentiate them.

Could utilize the sceptre animation on the staff, you could just tint that a different color, but even then the marks cast really fast anyway so it would still be too hard to really react to it, this coming FROM someone who mained Necro.

Personally I think the marks should have like a 0.5-0.75 delay when they’re laid down, sort of like Karthus Lay Wastes from LoL, that on top of the better “telegraph” from the staff animation and it could be easy to read and react to.

I would suggest just making the weapon briefly “flash” red, nothing super extreme that could possibly blind you, and/or maybe make a little “lifeleech” ball fly from the target to you, like the very subtle green orb necro’s get when stuff dies around them.

Subtle little things just to let you know it’s working is always nice.

But to make it easier either just make the weapon briefly flash a color or have a little “symbol” flash on it, like the symbol of the sigil.

Here’s a very crude example.

@JonPeters and ColinJohansen

A huge thank you for responding…I suspect you guys are aware but definitely don’t underestimate the value of communication even if it is a little update on the same things your working on say every month etc.

@Colin I hope you can understand from players perspective being stuck with this meta for such a long time without change and then to watch PAX and see that response. That being said, thank you for responding and I would like to apologise for the crap your twitch chat had to deal with.

A question to Jon and Colin etc Do you guys feel that allowing the meta to stay in such a state for so long was a mistake in hindsight? Also do you agree with the sentiment that the Pace of PvP could be toned down to benefit both play and viewing pleasure?

In GW1, we had a major tournament, and we had a balance patch come out right before the tournament. The teams in the tournament felt that this was difficult for them, as they already had to travel/etc., so it really messed up their builds. BUT, I also understand how you guys feel – we held balance updates until later so that we kept the meta stable (even if it has issues) for the tournament.

There are 2 sides to that, and I think both sides have merit.

As to the speed, yes, I agree. We want to make the game more fun to play and also easier to watch. This isn’t only for esports, it’s also for new players. Slowing the game down slightly would allow more players to watch good players, and more easily figure out how to play. So I agree w/ you there.

This would be solved just by having a seperate tournament server/patch like League of Legends, but considering we don’t have that I’m assuming it’s too difficult for you guys to do that right now.

Holy jesus this was a monster of a post, seriously this is what everyone wanted.

Just hearing “But, if you’re not careful, just having 1 game type may not be enough variety. You’ve got to find that perfect spot.” Alone is just….. huge, this single quote would’ve put a stop to anyone thinking “Oh anet still thinks only conquest is the way to go..”.

So this was really amazing to see, I honestly had thought the devs didn’t really care that much about the pvp side of the game that much. Like I went from almost completely losing hope for this side of the game to being as hopeful as I’ve ever been lol.

If at all possible you should get just 1 person to be the voice on the forums for you guys, just to keep the communication flowing even when the actual devs can’t, even if that means getting a trustworthy volunteer.

Oh and totally agree with you on objective deathmatch, that’s essentially what MOBA’S are, you’re right, and it is better, where the killing/fighting is the primary focus and the objectives just add that spice.

it’s amazing the change in tone of the forums when the devs show and talk a lot. you’d think god himself has made an appearance, judging by the change from “OH MY GOD THIS IS SO DOOMED” to “OH THANK YOU I CAN’T WAIT FOR IT”.

People need attention,thats all

i know, it’s my odd way of saying that maybe, even if it slows things a tiny bit, it’s worth it to come around more often to chat.

Exactly, communication is soooo important.

Like, if a godly, messiah of a balance patch were to happen in 1 month but no one knew about it and was just left in the dark for so long there would be a lot of anger, but if there was a ton of communication about it and it took 2 months things would be peachy.

I can’t say it enough, Riot does this extremely well.

dont need to merge – theres enough players at any given time 24h a day

we need only 3 things asap in spvp :

1.) better reward system
*this means not only glory things or armorskins for playing – i talk bout rewards for being in leaderboards
*simple fixes to what we have atm – salvaging chests are sooo anoying – remove skins from them and do mats in OR remove the asking for when i wanna salvage a item

2.) more gamemodes – very important
(dont need to be competive – funmodes would be ok too atm)

3.) balance and faster reaction on problems – and there should be NOTHING in and out of the game holding back a balancing patch or hotfix for any balancing problem

  • we all know necro do to much dmg and other things

Yeah, besides more communication the ONLY other thing I could seriously beg for is to put aside the notions of forcing the game into an esports and 100% focus on just making it pure FUN, the competitive scene will come naturally.

This is how the successful esports games out there now came to be, follow their example.

We still have a long ways to go to get to where we’re going, but considering where we stood when we launched with almost no features in PvP I think we’ve come a long ways.

And yet, this game was hyped to be the MMO esport…

More popular than gw1 ever was on it’s height? You’re counting the hotjoin players too, I guess. I remember the time getting top 1000 in gw1 (Guild leaderboard) was ‘hard’.

Yeah but I think even Anet could agree it was a mistake to hype the game as an Esports title from the get go, because you just can’t MAKE an esports game, you make a good pvp game and then esports is born from it.

Since you called me out by name you get called back yo! Just wanted to point out that quote from PAX about PvP was not from me, though reading the article it sure sounded that way so I can see where it would be confusing

I don’t think PvP is done by any means. We’ve had some great successes this year, the total PvP population has gone up tremendously as the year has progressed and is much larger than Gw1’s PvP ever was at it’s height, which is nice to see since the game hasn’t launched in half the world yet. Spectator mode and custom arenas have opened the door for some really exciting growth and moments in 2013 in particular. We still have a long ways to go to get to where we’re going, but considering where we stood when we launched with almost no features in PvP I think we’ve come a long ways. We are of course always continuing to watch and listen to feedback, things like the addition of solo queue are direct results of that.

As a reminder, we did a blog post back in July that summarizes our major focuses for Gw2 in the 2nd half of 2013, if you scroll down to the PvP section you can find what some of our major focuses are. We told you what we’re working on priority wise already, once we have specific details we’ll share those as well : https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/

From that list, we’ve already completed some of those tasks since July. As we said back at the end of July, one of our major focuses is on that sense of reward and progression for the 2nd half of 2013. And since they are game-wide and not covered in the PvP section: of course our skills and balance team will be continuing to update and balance now that the tournament final is over.

Holy crap!!! Thanks for posting.

If there was just one thing I could wish for, it’s just be more communication, like how WvW forums have red posts constantly, just having atleast 1 guy there talking with everyone is seriously the best thing I think you guys could do for the spvp community.

The point of defiance is so the bosses cannot be cheesed hard into being unable to do anything. Removing defiant would make bosses complete easy mode. This is a baby change.

Instead it’s the opposite, bosses get so many stacks CC is completely useless, 10 people around you’ll be lucky to get one CC/interupt on the boss every 30 seconds.

Meanwhile cripple and immobilize are completely untouched and incredibly strong, and all of my mesmer traits that rely on interupts and completely useless.

I actually love all the effects when they go off in WvW. Two zergs clash in to each other, elementalists drop static in front of their zergs, mesmers drop feedbacks, damaged ground from warrior hammer stuns, fire fields, necro AOEs and in the middle of all that, players crashing in to each other.

The best bit is when you get that familiar with WvW that even though it looks like a mess to an onlooker, you know exactly what’s going on.

Yeah it totally makes Spvp tournaments so entertaining to watch too.

Petting Zoo’s and fireworks displays, explosions are fun, who cares about what’s actually happening in the fights? I like to just sit there with 1 on autocast and watch the pretty explosions, gives the combat so much depth.

Well obviously it’s bad in sPvP since you need to know what the hell individual players are doing, but in WvW you just need an idea of what the bigger picture is in a fight, which you can easily do once you train your eye for it.

I guess so.

It applies to PvE though as well. Since it covers the amazing design on bosses/creatures and since they insist on making animations the only telegraphs, it completely ruins boss encounter design in some cases.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Knote.2904

This isn’t hard to deal with. If an event is prolonged for too long, loot should be severely degraded, possibly even to nothing. This allows farming without abusing it to make it the sole goal and make it so that winning is more important and is consistent with Anet’s stances towards loot in general.

Furthermore, the chest at the end of the event shouldn’t be gated or restricted at all. Though will you object to people speedrunning these things?

No, that’s as bad as DR, an artificial band aid fix for something that’s fundamentally flawed design wise.

Reward for beating an event >>> Reward for failing an event.

It’s that simple.

IMO event mobs shouldn’t drop loot at all, make it so each mob killed “stores” the loot for the event and when you beat it everyone gets an equal share of that loot based on their participation.

Participation should be based on how long during the event you were “participating” instead of just how much dmg you did to some mobs in the event or w/e.

Suggestion : Let boon stripping remove stacks of Defiant on bosses/champions. Would give some nice extra utility for the classes in pve that can boon strip, mainly Mesmers.

Especially since there are so many traits that rely on a Mesmer to interupt things, it’s way too difficult to get defiant stacks off to really interupt often enough and this would give mesmers a nice “role” against bosses.

Why? because the soulbind make a good hacker protection tool sometime. I don’t want to end up buying lock for every single of my Legendaries.

What?

If you hacked they would most likely just destroy your legendary anyway.

And the item wouldn’t make it BoE it would make it account bound so you can swap it between char til you use it and make it soul bound again.

Let Ascended Weapon Replace Precursors

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Knote.2904

Knote.2904

Here’s an updated idea.

Recipe : Ascended Weapon + 3 other mats = Account Bound/Ascended version of a precursor.

The 3 other mats could either just be more expensive mats that in total make this craftable precursor worth about 500g or so.

Or the 3 other mats could be account bound items that you have to earn through a bunch of difficulty content so it’s like an actual “quest” and isn’t just as simple as tossing gold at it.

Then you would have a nice flow :

1.) Hit 80
2.) Buy Exotic (and use it til you get mats for your Ascended Weapon)
3.) Craft Ascended Weapon (and use it til you get the 3 other mats for precursor)
4.) Craft Asc. Precursor (and use it til you get mats for legendary)
5.) Craft Legendary

Now you have a nice flow from exotic to ascended to precursor to legendary…. It’s not about making it cheaper or easier to get, but it’s much less infuriating and is more rewarding this way and has a nice flow.

Not only would it give a little added bonus to the pick/axe (faster gathering speed like sickle) but could also make it feel more impactful and fun, slamming down the pick and exploding the metal deposit, or do a single powerful axe swing and blasting a tree with lightning.

The runes and sigils don’t stack btw.

And the sigils work for Daze too.

The Paralyzation sigils definitely stack

Yes but not with the runes.

Unbind Item In The Future?

Knote.2904

I heard there was going to be an item in the future that lets you unbind things to make them account bound, is this true?

Like if you have the unlimited gathering tools on one char could you spend more money to unbind them to swap them to a new char if you happen to stop playing the old one? Same with legendaries?

Don’t think they should get more poison.

Torment I definately think so, it’s not like Mesmers are really that exclusive with confusion anymore…

Give scetpre auto’s Torment.

Turning Mantra of Pain into Mantra of Torment would be nice too.

Hmm. What’s the more important stuff right now? That should obviously come first if it’s more important, but sometimes I just wish that one of their development teams might notice these little things already in the game and improve upon them. Meanwhile, the Living Story team gets 4 teams for it, or so I’ve heard…

No, no! This is not a complaint thread! Please don’t let it become that!

No I’m not bashing your idea. But I just thought it was funny because it was such a random and small/trivial thing in the game lol.

What I would suggest though is try making a compilation thread full of TINY things like this so they could have a nice list of things they could fix each patch really easily.

You know what would be a really fun simpler version of this?

If there was a way to teleport friends/group members to you, you could all roll lvl 1 characters and do this “hardcore” style.

You teleport to a random spot in the world, then have to make it to a city w/o dying and if you die you’re out.

Imagine being teleported to Orr at lvl 1 and doing this? LMAO that would be intense.

It might help if this suggestion was put in the Suggestions forum.

Just a tip.

Really? I figured it would get way more support and have a much higher chance of being seen here instead of drowned in a sea of small suggestions and ignored.

At this point, I’d take just about anything that doesn’t involve grinding away for 6 months to earn the 800+ gold I’m going to need just for The Legend.

I did the math for myself actually and I would need 1051g just for the mats for BiFrost at current prices, that’s more than the precursor lol.

It would probably be a lot less hassle to just save up 1700g and buy it outright, not very legendary though is it?

LoL is a bad example, summoners rift has WAY more depth than a conquest map 5v5.

Hell you just made their point actually, Dominion IS conquest and dominion was pretty fail for LoL because of how few specific niche champs dominated in it mobility or bunkering.

Why did some champions dominate Dominion? Obviously, not because it is conquest, but because these champions were balanced for Summoners’ Rift. The third gamemode, 3vs.3, had the same broken balance for the same reasons. You cannot balance for more than one gamemode.

@GvG:
If you take all major flaws of GuildWars2’s PvP and created a gamemode out of it, then the result would be GvG. Skill effects cluttering your screen, the poor targeting system and the AoE cap, GvG has it all and brings it to the excess. It’s ironic to see 20vs20 in a game that was clearly not designed for it.

There are 2 things that determine what champs were better in dominion.

Conquest – Champs with insane mobility/escape and/or champs that bunker very well sound familiar?

1v1’s – Bruisers and duel “heroes” since there was less opportunity for teamfights and no one needs to “farm” in order to get their items/levels these champs shine.

It’s not that complicated.

And you don’t have to balance for all the game modes, but if you implemented death match arenas and found that players started ignoring conquest for that then you should probably change your priorities of balancing.

What’s funny is if they did balance the game for regular “death match” the balance of current conquest might actually be better.

Should just make everyone play a Ele until they make the rest of the classes more like Ele.

You know where you need a brain, where your attacks are better telegraphed and easier to avoid and require comboing with CC to pull off.

They should’ve made the difficulty require about 20 people then just scale it up from there if more people join……
