It’s way too late to remove it w/o redesigning a lot of the game.
They should’ve done it to begin with, it is really irritating to have such a huge difference.
All of it.
Would be nice if Anet wasn’t so stubborn and just gave us what we want.
Where did you find that anet is against such pvp mode? Why would they? :O
Because they tested deathmatch, but neither of the teams wanted to start the fight, so they move forward to conquest.
That’s why skirmishes never happen in WvW… right.
Arcane Thievery needs to be a 30 second cooldown for what it does, 45 is way too long.
(edited by Knote.2904)
That is basically what the trait system should’ve been IMO.
Something along the lines of Warhammer traits.
A trait would take an existing ability, then take away and add essentially changing the ability in a way, giving some nice variety/customization.
“Single Target Nuke” does 30% less dmg, but is now aoe and cripples.
“Gap Closer w/Cripple” now immobilizes instead but loses half it’s range.
“Gap Closer w/Cripple” no longer cripples but has 25% more range and 25% less cooldown.
There should’ve been stuff like this for every ability, would’ve made customization so much more fun.
Been saying it was horrible since release.
It’s nothing but a big excuse to have terrible telegraphs, one shot mechanics and way too much dmg flying around.
Get one shot by stuff you can’t see? NO PROBLEM, just get back up anyway, then again, and again, then again. Spend literally half the fight in downed state spamming 1 for bad dmg, instead of being able to use player skill to outplay mob mechanics and players, FUN!
It needs to go away, make downed state a lot weaker (can be killed easily), but reduce the crazy amount of dmg flying around and make it actually well telegraphed so everything is actually reasonably avoidable and clear.
Same goes for PvP, increase the TTK instead of the cheesy burst dmg that exists and then nerf downed state, increase telegraphs so it’s possible to avoid being killed with skill instead of down state saving you over and over.
I like the downed state. The downed state (combined with dodge and positional attacks) is GW2’s replacement for dedicated healers. In most MMOs you need a dedicated Healer in order to recover the party in dire circumstances. Instead, GW2 offers the downed state which allows everyone to suddenly become a Healer and help a party member in need.
Stop thinking of the end of the health bar being the point where the player should die. That simply isn’t how it works in this game. The downed state in GW2 is no different than any other MMOs when you get an enemy nearly dead and then suddenly have someone fully heal them.
No it’s a replacement for player skill. Everyone having self heals is a replacement for healers, and this an action RPG, player skill and avoidance is what should be keeping you alive, not downed state.
As I said downed state is just an excuse to have ridiculous one shot mechanics that are NOT telegraphed properly and too much unavoidable dmg flying around, that’s all it is, it essentially dumbs down the game in the most annoying way possible.

I was so let down by Anet with gw2.
I definately fell for the mega hype just because I had so much faith in Anet from GW1, they were just, amazing.
Seems like they completely changed in GW2, and even now just seem completely oblivious to most of the problems that plague the game and are just afraid to even talk to us, despite all the good feedback that is given, ESPECIALLY in the pvp department.
I don’t understand why there isn’t atleast one guy who just talks to players on the forum constantly (who has thick enough skin to ignore all of the misguided hate).
It’s the one thing that is absolutely amazing about Riot.
$10 each, character bound. So for me it’d be…. $90. Mhmm.
Not wasting a cent on those. I wouldn’t even use free gems on that. ANet keeps making dumb decisions when it comes to the gem store. I don’t think they’re losing money from it though, as people apparently love buying keys or something? idk.
I’m more sad that people waste their money on it, pretty much ensures the rest of us won’t get items in the store that’s actually worth buying.
“Well if these people keep throwing money at us for crap let’s keep selling crap! =D”
It drives me nuts having a massive HP bar for my target and a giant UI window for like 5 events on the upper right of my screen that I have no way of shrinking (no I don’t mean minimizing).
I just wish there were better UI scaling in the settings, I have it set to lowest but that only really helped for my action bars. Really not sure why we can’t just 0-100% scale them like most games, not even asking for really in depth UI customization where you can drag UI elements, just scaling.
It becomes a really big problem (well annoyance) when fighting bigger mobs like bosses and you can’t even see them or my dmg numbers because of the UI, and since Anet insists on having these claustrophobic cameras in place on our characters I can’t really work around it.
Not to mention when you need to pay attention to telegraphs (the good few that even exist in the game =p)
Was watching this video, seems like a great example of what deathmatch GW2 pvp would be like.
The problem with cast bars, is that they’ll either clutter the screen with bars, or they’ll only be visible when you have someone targetted, which means any untargetted asura who pops out of nowhere from the mess to kill you will remain as unnoticeable with cast bars as he would without them.
The best solution is to normalize the models.
They wouldn’t clutter anymore than HP bars already do…
And so what if you had to target them to see it (which they shouldn’t, make them appear when HP bars appear), it’s still better than how it is now.
Simply put, animation changes are so unlikely to happen and will take so much more work, it’s something they should’ve done to BEGIN with and I think it’s too late for that.
TBH they’re more of a rip off than the copper o matic.
It’s not that much of a convenience since buying a single Ori pick lasts long enough already that’s it’s not big deal, and you still have to manage picks whenever you get a bunch of high quality low quantity tools anyway.
That and the unlimited pick is worth like 800+ ori picks in gold lol.
AND it’s not account bound (insane).
The copper o matic is atleast account bound and has atleast some convenience in replacing 25 charge basic kits and freeing up inventory space on white items once in a while.
That plus w/e possibility you stated, I think unlimited ori tools are the biggest scam they’ve pulled so far lol.
25% Speed on Signet of Inspiration.
The signet is entirely a selfless utility, this helps balance it out.
Exactly. That’s totall what’s happening. This PvP wants to be too competitive thus giving no content for casuals to play, and the competitive scene is too small to have impact because the game isn’t appailing and ‘fun’.
Starcraft. Dota and LoL. Counter-Strike. Those games are truly ‘too competitive’, with a priority of balancing for the 1% and the competitive scene, yet still are played by massive amounts of casual players that still deem it fun.
Not to mention that GW2 also has more than 1 mode of play, WvW and the overshadowing PvE behemoth that’s already a casual’s paradise.
Yes, people have different definitions of fun. However, if the audience that desires balanced and competitive gameplay over quirky gimmicks or easier gameplay (alternatively read as: low skill ceiling) become ignored even in the game mode meant for them, then they have nowhere to go in GW2. If anything, it’s the exact opposite of that quoted statement; there will be no content for the competitive scene but content for the more casual players.
But they don’t just focus on the 1%, they also make sure it’s balanced and fun for the rest for the most part.
They also started out as just fun games focused 100% on fun and slowly grew into the esport monsters they are today. Anet is trying to skip too many steps.
Should have to pay to do our instanced story quests.
Really wish Anet would try and experiment with more game modes like this, don’t balance for it, don’t care about it, just let it be.
If people enjoy it even just as a break from conquest… fantastic.
If people enjoy it so much they play it more than conquest.. great.
If people enjoy it so much it starts to become competitive, embrace it and let it grow.
If the PvP team works on both WvW and sPvP, it’s reasonable to conclude that their primary focus is WvW, as that represents a great, vast, massive majority of GW2’s PvP community.
So, maybe after the borderlands lakes are drained?
It’s ironic though, that same mentality should be applied to casual Spvp, make it fun.
Cry of Frustration really needs a lower cooldown, it’s basically the condition version of Mind Wrack.
Either that or put some torment on Mind Wrack. So it can double dip like power builds can with CoF.
Conditions just need to stop being on ranged autoattacks. And stop proccing off said ranged autoattacks. Repeated and EASILY sustainable application of strong conditions is the problem.
Exactly.
At the very least it needs to be backloaded so there is a predictable staggered flow.
I punched a kitten today, it didn’t fight back.
“Oh.. ok.”
Don’t change anything you’ve added already, if something is OP, add new skills to other classes that are on-par, then add new skills to those classes beyond that.
Don’t play Whack-A-Mole and ruin current abilities please..
Obviously you didn’t play GW1.
The massive power creep caused by the addition and buffing of new skills over the years majorly damaged balance and produced a really dysfunctional meta.
I also heard that game was funner and more balanced then this one. Funny huh?
I agree with you to an extent, GW1 was more fun just because there was a ton more abilities and customization/builds that could “possibly” be used.
Powercreep is definately a thing, but I do feel Arenanet went overboard trying to control the balance for this game and ended up strangling the life and (fun) out of it.
What’s funny (and sad) is that they did so to make it easier to balance, and a year in and it’s worse than it was before, arguably.
As a Warrior I’d have to disagree, we were only useful for one shotting noobs. Now we have the ability to counter builds other players consider OP like Spirit Rangers and Necros. I know build variety isn’t very high but the fact is there will probably always be a “meta” build that is considered to be the best, but if there’s a way to beat that build then the players should move to counter it rather than going to the devs and saying that something needs to be nerfed. We as players should determine the meta, because most of the balance changes have come at the request of the players so we aren’t blameless in this.
Yeah, they’re did a nice job there, but we’re a year in and still need help elsewhere.
The problem with making conditions burst is that means they would be too similar to your standard power based burst. The fact that conditions generally deal damage over time makes them different to power based attacks. If they were burst the game would basically be Burst vs. Bunker which isn’t very interesting.
I do agree that there is too much passive removal for such an active game. Traits that cleanse when you use certain skills I’m fine with but traits that are basically “Remove x number of condis every x seconds” are really boring.
I personally don’t feel that conditions are all that bad as they are individually, most classes have ways to combat them but don’t use them. If we start to see people start running counter meta builds we may start to see a shift in the meta that is PLAYER-DRIVEN without any need for Dev intervention.
I said just to make them burst-ier not going too far with it, just a slight adjustment, it does far too much dmg with sustained application.
And it’s not so much that conditions are overpowered, there just needs to be more skill/thought requirement injected into the game.
Super high dmg condition spam faceroll is just as bad as passive condition removal.
Changing both helps mitigate that thoughtlessness and puts more strategy in the fights.
Instead of just ok I gotta spam conditions 12345111111112345111111, instead ok let’s get an auto chain off a couple times, stack more conditions with 2 (or w/e weapon attack), and save 3-5 for after he cleanses and try to burst/pressure him to heal, then poison then try again to burst. Oh he interupted/dodged my auto chain that’s gonna put me behind a bit.
I agree that players should be able to create counters and mold the meta before Anet intervenes, but the problem is they have a stranglehold on the creativity in the game, there’s only so much we can do, which is why there needed to be more customization in the game, let the meta play out more then fine tune the things that stick out as a huge problem.
And this is coming from someone who played necro since beta, it really is just faceroll spam and there’s little room for thought/strategy, besides “save my condition transfer attack! for conditions!”
(edited by Knote.2904)
80 gold to transfer servers………………… screw that. >=[
Please make the scroll +20 levels (and +5 skill points if used on a lvl 80).
Would be the best solution.
I don’t know how they failed with this TBH, there already a few well exaggerated and telegraphed Asura animations already, you’d think it’d extend to all of them.
Although you can only exaggerate a simple hand motion so far with a tiny asuran arm, unless you want them jumping around and having seizures just to lay down a Necro Mark.
But this requires so much more work, they just should add tiny basic cast bars that we use for our own characters.
Don’t change anything you’ve added already, if something is OP, add new skills to other classes that are on-par, then add new skills to those classes beyond that.
Don’t play Whack-A-Mole and ruin current abilities please..

What’s funny (and sad) is that they did so to make it easier to balance, and a year in and it’s worse than it was before, arguably.
I think simply making condition application less sustained and more bursty would make them much more managable. The only way to deal with high dmg conditions being spammed on you constantly is to have consistent condition removal also being spammed.
Take Thief for example, remember when Deathblossom was countered a lot easier compared to other condition builds? Because it usually involved the Thief jumping in, doing 3 DB’s in a row to stack a ton of bleeds then running out of Initiative with no follow up or running away. Well it was simple to counter with even a simple “Cleanse 1 condition” ability/proc.
Now compare any auto attack ability that constantly spams conditions, Ranger Shortbow auto, Necro Sceptre auto, etc. It’s non stop dmg spam. You just cleansed 10 stacks of bleed (1000 dps give or take)? Well it’s already back to up 5 and climbing nice job. A good example would be Ranger Torch, it’s one of the only abilities that straight up feels like you’re placing a long DoT (counterable) on the target with a cooldown.
Now this kind of goes with what’s wrong with so much high dmg spammable auto attack dmg in the first place, but it can extend to other skills with short cooldowns or procs as well.
It’s the same reason why Confusion isn’t something that can sustained constantly, atleast for Mesmers, reason being that it should be something that requires thought and should be applied at the right time as punishment.
Doing something as simple as (taking Necro Sceptre as an example) making the first 2 auto’s apply only a 1-2 scond bleed and the third one applies 2, 5 second bleeds, it’s much more backloaded then and has some wind up time.
Some auto’s like Ranger Shortbow would need changing though, but giving spammable auto’s like that a Chain would make them much more interesting and fun to use anyway.
Like : Auto 1 – Swift Shot / Auto 2 – Swift Shot / Auto 3 – Rapid Shot (3 fast projectiles)
Passive condition removal would also need to be looked at, there is just way too much of it and condition removal needs to be an active thing, whether it’s using an ability that PROCS condition ability (which can be saved and used at the right time) or a combo field proc, or just an ability that straight up removes conditions, it needs to be in the player’s control, none of this (remove condition every 10 second) RNG BS.
Just my thoughts.
Imagine what will the side effect be if anet put a +20 levels on the gem store.. for maybe.. 1000gems..
Leveling 2 craft proffessions is far cheaper lol.
The 1000 gem option would be good for the convenience though.
If most people have all their alts above 20, what good would the scroll be? You have to look at it from the monetization perspective……to entice you into buying more toon slots from the Gem Store. In the end, it’s all about the $$$.
What good is that if someone has no desire to level another character?
And if I want to level my lvl 25 character only, how would restarting him to use the scroll help lol.
Not sure you got the point of my post. My point being, they are trying to entice us to buy more toon slots. Key word….“entice”.
Except if you have no desire ever to create a new character then that won’t entice you at all.
Just do it.
They don’t have to be super detailed, they don’t have to even say what is being “cast”, just take the little “cast bar” at the bottom of our screen anytime we’re using abilities that have animations and put it under enemy health bars (and maybe make it a tad thinner).
There would still be a ton of abilities that aren’t well telegraphed or just fire off too quickly anyway which is another problem in of itself. This would just reduce the racial imbalances somewhat.
PvP needs to be clear and well telegraphed if you want skillful dodges and counterplay, that’s just how it is. Go compare a norn using killshot in the background to an asura using killshot. =p
There is just way too much uncertainty in enemy attacks that there’s rarely a chance to even predict an ability and dodge skillfully, it’s just random, and people have felt that since release.
Example picture below : notice how now the tiny clouded asura is doing something indicated by a simple action (cast) bar? Works even when they’re far away.
Well… we can boycott PAX by not watching it to show the devs that puttng off balance for their tournaments is sillyness.
I thought that was going to happen automatically, who would want to watch that? =p

Any chance we’ll see future keep and siege weapon designs that are themed based on the races or even siege weapon/guards used within them?
They could have different strengths and weaknesses which could really add an extra strategic element.
Could mini’s get a boost in size of like 10-20%?
Some are too small to even tell what they are sometimes, and only the bigger or flashier ones tend to be noticed.
Maybe that’s just me. =/
Also being able to turn off the ability to deposit mini’s, or make it so mini’s stay with your character forever until you manually turn them off or, even if you were log off and log back on, then you could just pop up and deposit it and have it out as much as you want.
Special bags are way too much of a PITA to deal with just to have a mini out IMO.
It just goes to show how tied to the gem store everything is. They actually did make a whole new set of minis that could have been used for the birthday presents. Instead we all get the Queen x8 and the new minis are for sale in the gem store.
And I agree that the scroll should be changed to +20 but again, that would prevent people from using it with newly purchased character slots…from the gem store…
The scrolls are account bound.
I wonder why Anet put that scroll into the higher achievement points. I mean, if you have that many achievement points, you probably already have a ton of classes at level 20+ anyway. But yeah, I agree. It’s completely useless to me.
Don`t assume. I`ve been playing since headstart and only have 3 80s. Most of my other characters are still level 2-6.
I only have 2 lvl 80’s, but my alts are like 15+.
So….
Worse than when I quit in December….
How did they manage to make it worse in all that time, I don’t know.
Worse yet they’re putting off changes so 10 people can play a very bad pvp game with no audience.
Why so much crying over this? So many games have smaller characters. Many people play this game for the asura height, not the meager benefits it provides. They will lose a lot of players including myself if they give in to your crying of such a minor issue. Fix real pvp issues, like condition spam.
…..my head… hurts.
This game’s only telegraphed is based on animations, that was Anet’s “design”.
It fails however when you have a race so small that the animations can’t be seen and thus gains a stupid advantage.
The whole game needs better telegraphing anyway, it’s ridiculous and they expected to make an esports with this?
(edited by Knote.2904)
PLEASE make it +20 levels.
Or hell even make a character instantly lvl 80 that would be amazing.
Levels are so pointless in this game anyway, I’d love to be able to skip the monotony.
Should have been 1 or 2 gold a day since you registered your account/game when you purchased it. Simple and easy to administer. If you had the game for year—sweet!! If you’ve had the game for 10 days—still sweet.
Yeah, let’s just massively inflate the gold by injecting it into the game manually as an anniversary gift lol.
The lvl 20 scroll really needs to just be +20 levels.
Would even be useful for lvl 80 then too, +20 skill points.
I wanna use it to level my alt but it’s useless..
It seems to me ArenaNet is approaching (or already at) a crossroads. They’re going to have to decide whether they want to make the game they originally wanted to make (the game many of us signed on to play) or pander to the “MOAR LOOT!” crowd. I honestly don’t see how they’re going to be able to do both. One glance at the new Achievements overlay they just added to our character select screen tells me they’ve already made up their mind.
They can and SHOULD do both.
Easy, make everything in the game lucrative, just like they did for champion loot.
Then everyone can do whatever they want and still get money. And if someone wants to put in the effort to get extra amounts then they can do the more challenging stuff.
It doesn’t work that way. If everything is lucrative, then nothing is lucrative. Inflation is funny like that.
That’s my point, then there won’t be 1 or 2 boring things that’s the only way to make money and everyone can just do activities they find fun and “progress” in the economy.
My thought is that making everything lucrative doesn’t mesh well with the war on bots. Look at the latest batch of group events: Karka queen, Queen’s Pavilion, Scarlet Invasion; for us players, these aren’t any less “mindless” than running a large circle killing easy mobs, but the event locations and times are variable. The mobs actually kill people. Perhaps that makes it more difficult/impossible to bot.
That being said, I fail to understand why Orr Temple event completions aren’t much more lucrative than they are now.
You’re kidding me right?
Right now the easiest, most mindless activity in the game POSSIBLE is the most rewarding, how is that combating bots?
Anyone can technically bot with this, I can go afk with auto attack on and get loot.
The reason they dont have free transfers or why the price isnt lowered is because if they do so people will keep bandwagoning on whichever server is more popular. For example lets say a server like blackgate drops to 5th tier in wvw. Then every wvw player on the server with a free transfer would be able to switch to a first tier server.
If you really want to switch a server just pay the money. Or farm and switch gold to gems. Its what 1800 gems and 100 cost like 4g or something. That means you need 72g to switch which isnt really that much…
I’m not asking for it to be permanent. Just a one time swap for one year accounts. And 72g is a lot.
I wonder why Anet put that scroll into the higher achievement points. I mean, if you have that many achievement points, you probably already have a ton of classes at level 20+ anyway. But yeah, I agree. It’s completely useless to me.
Assuming it’s not for new players because of the F2P period, which I don’t think it is since I don’t think they get the gift.
Then yeah, it’s a bit silly.
Just an idea, a mini that is a clone of your character when used.
YAY OR NAY?
if everything was the same in reward, then the masses would only do the easier stuff to get the same reward as the harder stuff. Thus a majority of the content gets ignored.
Hard balance to find, risk/reward. Right now the lucrative stuff is low to moderate risk, especially with the zergs running around you don’t have to do much but tag along. This should give low to moderate rewards honestly because of the repetition and ease.
The only reason they give good rewards is because the mob itself is “harder” then others in stats, but the skills are so simplistic that we are able to spam and out number it.
Right now everything seems like low to moderate risk with some things having huge rewards and others pointless.
I’m not saying everything should give the exact same reward. But the rewards vs time spent should be the same/similar, with some things being higher based on the difficulty or effort required.
Even if something is still the “best” even by like 5-10% that’s still way better than how it is now, and giving up that extra 5-10% might not be a big deal if you don’t feel like doing that activity.
Living World AKA casual pandering: a ton of people
dungeons: 0 people (well except for that one guy in the office that nobody likes who keeps saying, “Hey colin do you think we should look at making some actually hard dungeons, or at least can we fix some bugs”, he always gets shot down though)
:(
If that’s true this game has no hope. =/
As a player from BWE2 and recently coming back to the game to sadly find my guild on a completely different server I figured I’d give it a shot and ask for a free server transfer as our anniversary gift. I also share a birthday with GW2! PRETTY PLEASE!
Here’s some sad kittens to express my feel.
let people keep thinking mesmer is useless. its all good tho. because we can pretty much hold a point. and pick people off better than pretty much any other class right now.. say what you wanna say but its terribly true. Im not going to say we are invincible atm. but we arnt an easy class to go up against in pvp. And asmuch nerfs as we had ? and we are still viable.. period its sad
.
This is my condition confusion build for tpvp ive even gotten confusion to tick for 2.3k damage its pretty freakin hilarious lol
They get downed so fast they have no idea what even happened i had one warrior on map chat that said i was hacking and he was reporting me and taking screenshots i would love to see them xD. I guess he was mad he died. but hey.. thats what u get for using hundred blades with 11 stacks of confusion on u lol.
But anyway another thing about my build is IC if an enemy hits u with that block up.. that torment.. is going to literally. do some crazy damage.. especially when u have stacked up 25 stacks of corruption lol.. it maxes out i think at like 5.4k.
100 blades procs confusion once.
I was actually going to suggest the same thing for major traits.
Doesn’t matter what tree you spec in, as long as you have a trait slot open you can pick any trait you want as long as it’s on that Tier.
Like if you have 30 in the Power tree you can pick the tier 3 trait for it from any of the trees. In the end you can only have 7 trait slots, 2 of them being T3 slots, which increase customization which this game desperately needs.
Can we have a devs answer to why we don’t have free allocation of traits 1year after game’s release? Is it too much asking for choosing every single trait (minor and major)? Didn’t we have this the first couple of beta weekends? Why did it change? Why do you give use presets when it comes to traits AND amulets? I want to build my own character, not taking your presets.
Because they would rather run the game into the ground than listen to players? It’s obvious they still think their design is brilliant and it’s the players that don’t get it.
I think they’re strangling the life out of this game trying to make it easy to balance, which was such a terrible idea, and the balance is terrible one year in isn’t it? So where has that gotten them?
The fun level should always be better, how else are you even gonna get a playerbase to support esports?
