FACT : DAREDEVIL TRAIT = Acrobatics 2.0 .Now deal with it.

Is it a scam?
Is HoT expansion now worth $20 and a foot massage?
Is this ethical?
Is it a digusting marketing move?
Is it a nasty cover up?

Doesn’t really matter.. at the end of the day it’s a matter of perception.

But let me ask you this, what is your goal in GW2?

I pretty much just want to have fun with my thief. I want to kill people and escape tight situations and maybe do this with friends. then kill more people, rinse and repeat. From to times and I am like “probably time to craft that ascended armor” .. and go back to killing.

Maybe you can say that It doesn’t require a lot to please me. but guess what. So be it.

I think You are psychologically ruining your fun by thinking “this is scam, can’t believe they did that.” or “Staff is a useless weapon.” and you will end up not having fun during BWE not because of Thief related problems, but mostly because of your negativity.

This isn’t politics guys. I would understand if one politician you supported is a closet kitten … Now then, we could argue about ethics, and lies and trickery. Or Government promised A but ended doing the complete contrary.

HOWEVER, this is a video games, a formidable one at that, and talking about wether a trait is a scam or not, really shouldn’t affect your fun with your favorite character. Anet does whatever they want with their characters to be honest, and most importantly they made those changes so we can have fun and they can have money.

Conclusion: Don’t let trivial talks like this ruin your love the Thief. Trust me, IT IS acrobatics 2.0. but idgaf, It is not going to prevent me from rupturing mesmer lungs

You’re missing something essential there. It only works on “Downed” enemies. It’s just an alternate way of finishing opponents and takes about the same amount of time to do the whole chain of skills as it does to just press ‘F’ and finish them like normal. The only time it will be faster is when the second skill in the chain causes the enemy to go into the downed state.

I agree with Nivik completely. I just realized it doesn’t matter what they want, it will be filled with negative critics. Anet truly delivered this time with the traits, utilities and weapon skills but somehow it’s a complete scam because it looks like acro 2.0 . I am still to go against the flow and try it for a 1v1. The key here i think is Weakening Strike>as long as we apply this, then we should be able to fight par on par with other weapons. If Staff damage is weak, then the next logical thing we do, is to make their attacks weaker.

Problem with staff is not damage. Problem with staff is it has no purpose as a weapon. Its skills are terribly designed and if u may happen to see any use in WwW or PvP is cuz Vault seems to hit like a truck ( base damage is higher than back backstab O__o ) and people will simply spam it till ini ends or opponents melt.

How about: steady application of weakness, a dodge roll immobilize cleanse, a blind, a sexy Vault, combined with a 4 stacks of Vulnerability? Come on man.
Staff cannot behave like Dagger or Sword or Pistol. It has to be different and offers its own way of killing people.

You said Vault is gonna be spammable? If you are bad Thief maybe. However, any Thief with a minimum of dignity knows you don’t spam something that has 6 initiative costs, the same exact way you do not ever spam HeartSeeker.

If spamming a 3ini skill is dangerous, then what about spamming a 6ini skill?

IF you pre-order, (which I definitely will, and I hope you do too) please test the Daredevil, but make sure your feedback also talks about Acro, CS, DA,SA, weapon skills, bugs. Everything you can think.

This is by far our biggest opportunity to make a change in the class don’t let it go to waste by only testing out the Daredevil, and just talking about low staff damage or Pulmonary Impact not critting.

I beg of you my brothers and sisters in cunning, when you give out your feedback, take the opportunity to address how messy the cores are.

DAREDEVIL IS NOT THE SOLUTION and It cannot be stressed enough. Be the Dev you want them to be.

I am officially satisfied from the traits and Physical skills.

By the look how low the staff damage is, those who do WvW will have to opt for Deadly Arts, Trickery and DareDevil. So glad I can get rid Basilik Venom. I can use Bandit’s Defense to counter against Thieves who are using the former Elite skill.

The whole challenge once again is good synergy with new utility skills, and finding a way to fit in a stealth mechanic in there. Cause that 2 seconds knockdown is a must have.

Heal skill is pretty amazing too. 5,520 HP heals with 3 pulses? that’s our whole life back mates. It could be easily interrupted I guess.

Now we wait for the way all those moves look and it’s GG for Anet on my end.

Pretty much. I mean it’s a little confusing cause the description says “stun” and the tool tip says “daze” but hitting with the 0 range blowout should be a rather long stun effectively, plus damage after that….. so when does BV get its CD lowered?

I wish the second strike of the staff auto attack had endurance gain on it like daggers. Straight damage on both is pretty underwhelming and endurance gain on it would have fit the set thematically. It has a couple of gap closers and a blind, but no stealth, no poison, and no endurance regen, so I think it will lose out to D/P the same way S/X does.

I noticed the same thing. Daze would be rather inconvenient. We wouldn’t want to miss our uppercut do we? lol

and I agree Staff AA is rather weak. I am pretty sure we can fix that with BWE feedback. Unless they want us to use the Physical utility skills to do the damaging.

It will be VERY challenging to connect those physical skills though. (if you don’t have stuns ready) I like the challenge.

Hook Strike, the steath attack from Staff cause Knockdown. This is extremely satisfying…

Problem is staff doesn’t provide stealth from itself so….

I have a feeling people cannot differentiate between a bug and a core issue.

a bug = something not working as intended.
example:
healing x is supossed to be +10% but it only heals +5%

a core issue = programing, decision or rule setting that breaks the gameplay, synergy wise.
Exmaple: Richoget is gone, Acrobatics, Conditions being OP,etc.

Thief does not seem to not have a lot of bug (Black Smoke + HS combo bug), but they have a huge amount of core issues.

We can blame them for everything but not this time.

They are actually working on improving AI. There was a GDC that specifically talked about how they are going to install a completely new AI system starting from HoT. It will apply to future MMOS too.

Also watched Wooden Potatoes video on the Daredevil yesterday, he is playing random PvE videos while talking about the reveal, but if you pay attention you will see how hard and intense these mobs are fighting. It’s another level.

There is no way they will put CD on staff. That would make it a nightmare to manage two CDs. Stop with those fantasies. So now what? you want utility skills to be on initiatives?

Assuming Daredevil and the staff are legit, I’m guessing we’d be trading steal (an engagement skill that potentially sets up the target) for some sort of disengagement skill that doesn’t grant stealth.

Impossible. First, F1 doesn’t grant stealth (without a trait). Second, no matter what happens to our F1 skill, it’ll still count as using “Steal” for all the existing traits. So no matter what the elite spec gets, you will still be able to trait your F1 to stealth on usage.

Or hey, perhaps the whole thing is set up to simply add an f3 similar to how the chronomancers got an f5.

In that case it’s entirely possible that steal traits simply wouldn’t function with the f3. You’ll notice that the only minor traits that effect steal are in the trickery line, which is essentially the “steal and tricks line” it’s not a long stretch of the imagination to assume that the new line would be the “disengage and X skill line” with a similar design to trickery. Buffs the mechanic and its associated skill category. That would allow people to build around utilizing both, or throw out trickery and simply not trait for steal in favor of using the new line to get similar style buffs from using the new mechanic.

I just watched the Wooden Potatoes speculation… He mentioned Rage skills being a a completely new set of skills, and we don’t know if these are exclusive to the Berserker.
I could honestly see a rage bar added to the Daredevil.

He also mentioned clones, which again, are not exclusive to the Mesmer. Shatter is what is exclusive to the Mesmer.

following RB2’s tweet however, I find clones more “distracting” than rage skills. I hope the clones are just one-use kind of skill. My forecasting was, the clones rush to the target, and immobilize/ slow /weakens them. destroying them causes blinds.

I truly wish Robert Gee would take care of us, but I don’t think ONE dev takes care of the whole profession. They must work together and give each feedback because… balance.

I’m tentatively excited for staff, depending on what they do with it. If it can differentiate itself from the glut of playstyles already offered in melee and be mathematically viable to make it an attractive option, then I’m on-board.

That being said, I don’t main thief, and a staff won’t suddenly make me main thief. I won’t main a profession that doesn’t have a good ranged option/backup available. Shortbow is decent but more used for the utility (dem teleports) than single-target throughput, and Pistol/Pistol is a joke.

Will staff be fun to screw around with and add to an already well-established close-range playstyle? Hopefully. Will it truly enhance the class or allow it to break into a new area or function like a rifle, or heck, even functional pistol/pistol could have? Incredibly doubtful.

You put up some good questions mate. Idk which profession you main but it doesn’t really matter. I don’t even expect Staff to get us into a new era like you said simply because before getting to the new era, you need to make sure everything is fixed. So far, that is not the case.

My expectations, I believe, are reasonable : I just want traits to be fixed, top notch repairs, so that we can get back to that diversity we used to love so much. Daredevil is fulfilling that role in some way, but repairing comes first. So that when next Expansion comes, we will welcome Rifle with open arms.

I was thinking the same thing: CLONES. Look at that weird shadow in front of the Daredevil, it looks like a a vanishing former-self of the characters. Maybe I just too excited.

By distraction, I also thought a huge amount of teleportations, Teleportation allows to multiple location like an overpowered, Shadowstep.

Or by “distracting” she simply means the coming PoI & PAX event.

- CS: not bad.

-SA: Venous Aura is well thought out. 1 poison every 10 seconds is reasonable and mitigates the drawbacks of stupid CDs

-Acro: Guarded Initiated has improved but I still don’t like it. anything with a health threshold of 80%+ is useless.

- Trickery: Pressuring Strike , me gusta

I did actually. Although that ranger has some very good points it doesn’t push aside the fact that an official survey from Anet would be greatly appreciated. It is true there are flaws in this survey.

Just the fact that a player has to go out of their way to make a survey tells me that there is a lot of things Anet should start focusing on. They have people reading the threads 24/7, but that’s not satisfactory at all, especially when the only feedback I got so far was infraction points. That’s far from satisfactory.

Yes. Results are questionable, and I knew the formulated questions would draw some critics, but guess what, I welcome this survey with open arms.

At least here, we have a quantified idea how many people (may or may not) actually think this kittenty trait called “Acrobatics.”
About 80% of us (may or not) think that way, so we have a general idea of the quality of this spec.

This isn’t an econometrics thesis guys and this survey is better than nothing.

If you post it on Reddit, people who hate thieves or don’t main Thieves will start sabotaging the results. It’s a good idea at first because you will get a guaranteed increase in responses but … it’s not the right population sample AT ALL.

The thing is, you’re not going to get a “right population”… By posting it on these forums (thief forums) you get a biased opinion… by posting it anywhere else, you will get biased hate responses…

Best bet if you can get people from the game to take it…
