you know, you are totally right except for one single thing.
WvWvW in this game (and PvP MMOs in general) are designed to be a team effort. You just cannot escape or abstract yourself from the team implications when you are participating in the game.
if you step into the field but then refuse to be part of the team you are hurting those around you, which is plain bad manners.
I think your mindset just doesnt fit very well with MMOs.
I thought the countless posts about TA being a non-factor to HoD’s success were true! I was lied to???
depends on how you define “being a factor”.
HoD used to won due to numbers alone. TA played a significant role in drawing that numbers to the server, and without them the coattail riders are beginning a mass exodus. But TA by itself had a pretty insignificant impact on HoD’s success, its was pure body count what mattered.

guardians mesmers and thiefs are still on a league of their own, compared to warriors. nerfed? by golly, in that case they need to get at least 10 times more nerfs to even be on the same playfield…
engis elems and rangers dont stink, they just are tricky and people mostly suck playing them…specially because most dont even bother learning when they can play one of the 3 forementioned classes, bang their forehead on the keyboard and do ok.
necro is probably the only thing you nailed…they suck so much that its a running joke now

Your “solution” would be very bad for the game. Why should players be punished for playing on a different continent when they have been able to do so for years in every other MMO? I play on the US servers for a good reason and if I would be forced to play elsewhere I would quit playing the game completely. I am not going to play this game all by myself, thank you. I happen to have many American friends. Or how about expats living in Europe? Should they be forced to play in Europe and not on the American servers with their friends? Merging the American and EU servers isn’t an option either because in all honesty I think EU servers in MMOs have become so common because the European Union requires companies to operate in the EU if they even want to do business in the EU.
Creating new Asian/SEA region servers solves nothing. You will now have players in every region who don’t have 9 till 5 jobs who now have even less people to play with and against in WvW at the time they can play.
I have noticed that many of the solutions in this thread punish the players who simply don’t play during prime time. Other solutions lead to the player base telling you to log out of WvW because you are affecting the score negatively (when you have more players than the other server).

you make it sound like there are tons of people that work on night shifts and they would be “punished” if servers were region locked.
first, the amont of people who can only play at nights is minimal. anecdotic at best, this game is mostly played by students or your everyday Joe who yes, he has a 9 to 5 job and maybe a family, and can usually devote a few hours from 8 to 12 or something like that.
if you are from a country where the majority of people have night jobs, I’d love to know which one is it. sounds like a country of vampires…
second, you can still play the game, it just wont be as packed full as if you played…but hey, thats your proof that people like you are such a minority, that we cannot let them affect gameplay to a point where it stops being fun for the VAST, VAST, VAST, VAAAAAAAAAAST majority of people.
what I find funny is how people defending the current system always pull the same 2 arguments:
1) but I have across the ocean friends!
2) OMG Think of the night shifters!
and usually they fall in neither. they dont work in shifts, they dont have friends from other regions, or dont care enough about their so called “friends” to go thru an annoyance just to keep playing with them….hence, they werent real “friends”
they just want to have easy wins for their own benefit and to stroke some ego.
dont get me wrong, I feel sorry for the “real” night shifters, but missing on a game is just one among the myriad other things that are unfair for them due to their real life work. I bet it sucks for them, but we cannot keep a system that is blatantly unfair for 99,9% of the population just due to a 0,1%.

how ANet devs have let this crap last so long is beyond nuts. its like taking a course in “bad business practices 101”, pissing off the majority of your customers to cater to a tiny, tiny minority.

WvWvW is and should be a 24/7 game mode; servers are not designed for 24/7 player loads.

1) Eliminate NA and EU designations. (language designations would be fine)
2) Announce a finite time remaining for free transfers. (at least 2 full matches)

24/7 balanced servers is an utopia. it will never happen. lets come into terms with that.

unless they are one of the typical morons riding coattails in one of the 3 top servers, which are “roughly” balanced, chances are yes, oceanic players are ruining everybody else’s fun in their matchup.
alternatively, check what your other fellow oceanics from SoJ say. The game isnt fun for them either. in the servers that have mostly oceanic presence but no EU nor US, the matchup is a total boredom for all sides involved, most of the time people PvEing objetives, barely ever having a chance to see anyone online in the other side to fight.
last time I checked, balanced matchups are rarer than rocking horse kitten…or without the metaphor: nonexistant.
come into terms with the fact that, due to a HUGE developer oversight when designing their systems, and to circumstances outside your control, OCEANIC PLAYERS ARE SCREWING EVERYBODY ELSES FUN. period.
do you know how Oceanic players could help solve the issue? if they distributed evenly among 3 servers of their choice. Then 3 servers would be balanced in oceanic presence, and the other 45 would be (mostly) free of the nightcapping taint.
but Im not asking that, that would be unfair for oceanics.
Its ANets fault and they better solve it themselves, making all sides happy.

this discusion is academic at best, since mending is much better than both due to the condition removal, which is absolutly mandatory after the lvl 60 mark for pretty much everything, PvP, PvE, dungeons or WvW.
I had almost 12k karma at 40, didnt spend any of it during my leveling. I ran event loops all the way from 30 to 40, fast leveling and nice karma…altho boring
I didnt buy the weapon anyway, they suck. you can get better weapons in the TP for a bunch of silver coins if you wait till 42/44…
cultural weapons, just like cultural armors, are inmensely overpriced. noone sane buys them, ever

serious guilds will:
a) care about the extra lag involved when playing in servers located across the pond
b) care about going to a server where their primetime (the server’s off peak ) doesnt guarantee them having enough/any enemies
its just the unskilled morons who couldnt take the heat of playing prime time in their region the ones who go to other region servers, and PvE their way in WvW…and I think the current top servers have all of those good-for-nothing already booked.

the biggest problem is that a guardian’s natural and most dangerous enemy are necromancers
and necromancers are so utterly bugged, and even without they bugs they are so ridiculously underpowered and underwhelming at every-effing-thing but dealing with guardians, that practically noone plays them
so guardians dont have to worry about their natural counter, since there is none around the vast majority of the time
mesmer lists all “OP” skills in the game
mesmer somehow misses MOA, the most absurdly broken beyond recognition skill in the history of MMOs

It’s a mmo that focuses on gear looks, that’s why legendaries don’t have ridiculous stats but look amazing.
The grind isn’t there unless you want it to be, your argument is the same as the people that complain jump puzzle chests don’t give a good enough reward for spending 30 minutes getting to it. Don’t do jump puzzles if you don’t like the reward then, they aren’t necessary. But it’s there so I have to do it.

most people would naturally gravitate to servers closer to them (europeans to EU servers, americans to US servers) due to ping issues.
and the same people would still stack certain servers as they do now to win with the least amount of effort possible.
so you would have pretty much the same problems you have now, plus some stupid matchups like low-population US server vs low population EU server, where both sides pretty much play alone during their peaks, and people rarely gets to see an enemy.
servers should have been region locked, a hard cap on populations should have been imposed, and free transfers should have been shut down 2 weeks ago.

flyhacks are a valid strategy, and there is nothing unfair about it because anyone can download and install them. if they decide they wont its their fault and they deserve the lose
transfering to a winning server is a valid strategy that proves you are superior. you have all rights to brag about your superiority 30 seconds after the transfer has been completed. all the previous weeks of being stomped and humilliated are instantly wiped, you are now a great player.
not being able to play a single second due to enormous queues does not take away said bragging rights.
You will deny night capping is an issue, and declare the other servers just need to get more coordination.
while saying this:
1) you will actively try to recruit more night shifters for your server
2) you will actively try to stop other server’s attempts at getting night shifters.
3) you will keep repeating how night capping is not an issue.

Why is this a problem? This is exactly the dynamic ArenaNet had in mind when they designed WvW.
yep, Im sure ANet aimed at having 3-4 servers per region inmensely overcrowded, and people complaining about queue times constantly, but refusing to move to other servers because they would lose the advantage of having a night shift winning the matchups for them.
and Im also sure ANet planned to have a large chunk of the population angry at the night capping.

necro is broken because even when the bugs are ironed out (by 2015 I suppose), except for epidemic in WvW, they bring absolutly nothing that some other class cannot do FAR FAR better
without bugs its just a serious meh, outdamaged, outtanked and outsupported at every corner…with bugs, its ridiculous.

ANet doesnt want to fix it themselves, because anything they do willkitten off a big chunk of the population who did their best to ensure they were on a winning server by default, and dont want to put any effort in their wins.
So ANet gives the tools to “fix” it….to the same people that created the problem…
lo and behold, , all that people do is making the problem worse by stacking some servers EVEN MOAR…sooo unexpected LOL.
In a nutshell: we have a developer/publisher that doesnt dare to take tough/unpopular decitions for the good of their own game, and instead rely on their playerbase to do the “right” thing.
And since we are living in a post-WoW world, the playerbase is constantly doing the “wrong” thing over and over again, and the game is going down the drain because of it.
Plus you would need to merge another 2 servers to something else. We would need to have 21 servers to keep the ladder.
more like they should split the top servers in 2, because they are absolutly packed full
just keep guilds/alliances intact when splitting them, forbid transfers from/to them, and we’r good to go
this happens because ANet is more interested in permabanning people who purchases weapons at prices they themselves set incorrectly, than in policing their own game and hunting hackers.

yes, they totally do way too much damage in a way too large area for the price tag
and yes, its ridiculous when the defenders have as many people as the attackers and they choke you on arrows.
but arrow carts are probably the only thing that can help outnumbered players defend a keep.
nerf them and the outnumbered players will just flock to packed full servers because there really isnt anything at all left to help them anymore.

Apparently my class (necro) is terrible. Can’t say I’ve thought that…until pretty much like an hour ago when I read the necro forums. I’ve been able to do pretty much all the content and have had a blast.
have you tried the other classes to draw a fair comparison?

this argument does not hold. ranger has to use several abilites (last time I check atleast 6) and a few autoattacks to achieve proper condition damage application. some of them are short ranged traps.
actually I was thinking about the warrior, 4 skills top
and the best part is that he will do massive direct damage everytime he swings his weapon ON TOP of applying conditions, unlike a necro where the skills to apply conditions dont even crit for more than 300
