Ideas to buff necro sustain

The main problem with necro sustain is they just lack active/infinite scaling defense. They’re just a hp bag pinball.

People saying a necro can tank a 1v3 means there are just bad players on the 3 side. They can hold a 1v2 a bit if built all the way for it but will still die. They will still be CC’d the whole time or ranged pressured and can’t do much. Easily interruptable skills.

Necro really just needs a block/invuln/z axis mobility (will never happen), or stealth (will never happen) something that allows it to avoid damage for any bit of time.

People that think a necro just has unlimited lifeforce and are gods haven’t really played it and probably are just spamming things when spectral armor is up.

Siphonings are still bad for the damage going around atm and with terrible incombat mobility and ranged options it’s not like 60 healing siphons are saving it even when they do hit.

Another main issue is building to be tanky enough to hold a 1v2 even for a tiny bit is you’re still useless to your team or providing gimmicky/not as good support.

FSP is probably your best choice if you play during the day/primetime for EU and want to just fight. If you’re in NA and play NAish hours you probably need to be on SFR just because most other servers are dead NA times. Maybe Deso isn’t as dead but they have less overall.

My friend transferring from T1 NA left for T1 EU and said it felt like NA T3 numbers wise, anecdotal but still maybe something to consider. Might just be his playtime.

I bother because I don’t play pve much at all, and I love the whole dark/poisonous theme to the necro. Class really doesn’t matter much in normal spvp and even in competitive spvp, players like Nos prove that necro can be viable. In WvW we are pretty boss too!

The player will always matter more than the class

Player* like Nos.

Let’s be honest there’s really only one high tier competetive necro.

Let’s be honest, in EU it’s harder to pull off a necro in a comp. Many more viable teams. NA had a 2 rampage war comp cheese through to 2nd place in the last ESL.

The problem is not that its useless. Its that once you swap to it you are stuck on staff for at least 10 seconds. The 3 high cool down marks are the only decent skills. Once those are gone its a moment of “oh kitten what do i do now, i want to be back on my dagger”. Which is why id rather run offhand dagger to replace putrid mark. Dont need the fear because i have warhorn daze and doom. The chill can be done by dark path i suppose. So yeah its difficult to justify the staff when its utility is pretty much just copied stuff we can get elsewhere. Theres no actual strong unique utility on it. Which is kind of sucky.

What spec do you normally run in PvP? I can’t imagine you staying in combat so long or wanting to be aggressive so much where you see staff as a hinderance. In PvP we have to avoid a lot of team fights until the right moment and jump in otherwise we’ll just be focused instantly. You should be starting on staff in most fights because we need to utilize its range as much as possible then go in for timely bursts/lich in a zerker build.

If you’re running a bunkery spec you’ll still need staff or you’ll be kited for days and just pewpewed to death.

It’s not really a type of weapon you swap to in middle of a point or fight unless you’re trying to disengage somewhat and add ranged pressure or doing a condi transfer imo.

I’m assuming not a condi spec cause d/wh so yeah.

Honestly though it’s not great and it would be replaced in most power builds if we had any other 1200 range weapon, but the range is just needed with how crappy our incombat mobility is.

It’s used because it’s our only real ranged weapon and our only weapon designed with some sort of utility in mind. It also allows us to escape bad players.

It’s probably our best weapon just because it’s needed on almost any worthwhile build in PvP as bad as that sounds.

My Theory is we’ll just fight all the dragons left at once. Instead of one dragon killing mega laser we make 5, and shoot them together, their energies pulsing together will summon Captain Planet and he will bring balance to the world.

And then Trahearne will steal his lifeforce then take credit for doing the job.

But really I expect probably Jormag or Primordius. Bubbles seems too mysterious still and Kralkatorrik seems to be in Elona which I don’t think they have designed.

You have to ‘unlock’ them at the merchant by doing the achievements. I guess it’s just for people who want multiple sets.

I don’t know why 2 of the trinkets didn’t need achievements but I think it’s a good model to get people to do the content for rewards.

I can’t speak for mesmers but necros aren’t great condition damage wise. They’re more about manipulating conditions atm. Epidemic can be fun in world events with a lot of players, but for the solo content, you’ll mainly just be using scepter 1 and stacking bleeds and poison.

No reason to not create now. HoT will be adding new story onto the stuff we already have, it’s not like you’ll miss anything by doing the current story since everything takes place afterwards.

Plus if you start now you’ll have the hero points to unlock druid so you can play it sooner.

I cannot play Ele to save my life either (D/D). It’s weird trying to maximize the might rotations while reacting and using skills you need. Ofc I have like maybe 10 hours on ele.

I do have a 100% win ratio on it though since I’ve only done one unranked game on it. Held a 2v1 at far on skyhammer for over 150 points (pre latest balance patch) by using mostly fire skills and then water when I got low.

I was a button mashing hero.

I can’t do fresh air well either but in WvW staff seemed much easier to acclimate to.

I have over 5k hours on necro and MM is like the hardest build to play effectively for me. If you think you can just afk with the minions attacking for you that doesn’t really work. It takes a lot of effort positioning them, then you have to chain skills to land them, and all of this is while praying to the RNG gods they actually path correctly and actually attack.

Ofc if some random person yolos in with zerker/marauder amulet and tries to fight on a cap point with a MM I can see where they’d have trouble.

Ofc Necros will have problems with ranged professions as we have terrible in combat mobility and ranged pressure and it’s exacerbated in WvW where there’s plenty of land for opponents to use on you.

The GS dps basically needs to be one of the best weapons damage wise with how slow it is though. And gravedigger spam under 50% could help necros a lot in PvE if the numbers are there.

No, in PvP your PvE look will carry over, but your PvP stats are selected by your PvP amulet and rune selection. And then you’ll also have traits that’ll be seperated from PvE that you change.

All of this is accessed through the interface at the top of your screen with the helmet icon as it looks like you figured out. You make your amulet/rune/trait selection through that. And yes the amulet counts for all the stats for your armor.

You probably have more vitality in your PvE build due to some armor/trinkets, world buffs, guard buffs in WvW, or maybe a selected trait idk. A lot of thieves run the new Marauder amulet, which is Zerker with a little less ferocity for more health. That should help you out as well.

I actually like specilizations. Many of the traits we had were useless, or too mandatory, or just in a bad spot. We got most of that fixed. It seems like (warrior for example) just needs to keep posting trait suggestions to make the traitlines flow better by swapping a few more traits around.

While I agree there is less choice technically, there’s by far more viable choices, and will make the game much easier to balance around in the future, hopefully not taking 4+ months between balance patches.

Also we now get 3 traitlines to max and many people in PvP have seen just how much more powerful builds can be with that alone.

Why is the comparison with top tier? as if any of us will play on that level,. Most of us have lives, show more love to your class guys.

Ranger/Mesmer brother here feels you.

Ideally, all classes would have at least one build that is top-tier competitive for each facet of the game. Each class missing from the top-tier meta stagnates said meta a little bit more from a lack of variety.

I’m honestly not sold that the problem is the Necro design. I tend to think the Necro class is designed pretty well with avoidable cast times, specific weaknesses, etc. If anything, all of the instants/immunities/multi-second blocks/blind spams/etc. out there are the issue. To survive as part of that world, Necro probably needs to end up adopting some of that world’s toolset.

Part of the issue could also very well be the game mode used in top-tier PvP.

I’m not saying Necro design is perfect, but I also think the design of many other classes is, at the very least, questionable. Plus, the game is cats and dogs living together right now from a balance perspective, it sounds like.

It’s much easier to give necro access to those things other professions use than design the other professions to be more like necro though.

I agree conquest could just be a big general problem for the necro though, a mode about rotation and mobility does hurt it more than any other profession. But mobility would be used in any game mode frankly. It mitigates so much damage allowing you to reposition yourself or to get to a certain area faster.

Let’s not just mention PvP though, Necros are by far the worst PvE profession too. When you’re the worst profession in 2 game modes (even though balancing isn’t for PvE) I think that says something about the necro design as a whole.

I never understood why we have to always have unique i.e. gimmicky implementations of things. We had it on crit, but it was deemed too OP. Engis kept it on crit and stayed OP for over a year and still have it as a crit. We have silly hoops to jump through like landing lifeblast, a slow casting projectile, most condi builds don’t even want to waste what little life force they can generate just trying to proc a simple burn.

It’ll be a lot more useable on the reaper, but that’s not really an excuse for how it’s been for so long. They should just leave it on crit imo, especially since they never reverted our indirect nerfs from dhuumfire.

I usually use Heart of the Mists and only go to LA if I ever need the forge. I really don’t like the new design/layout of it. The look doesn’t really match the area and it’s inconvenient.

Quick Question. Why do most Necros go for Green color themes…. Or Mesmers with their Purple/pink themes, or Guardians with Blue/White, Thieves with Black/Gray…

Is there a Color theme Meta I don’t know about?

It’s just the general colors associated with the professions. Like you can see it on the skills, and the pvp pie circle, on the professions back ground on this website, etc. Thieves are kind of an outlier but almost every thief is black because of the stereotype of it being dark and in that shows and hard to see and blah blah.

I get pretty annoyed when my character doesn’t use the color scheme that fits the profession, so I guess there are a lot of people like me.

I’d personally like seeing a 1200 range power weapon since we have terrible mobility and ranged pressure counters a lot of necro builds hard. I don’t think axe should be that weapon though so I’m okay with 900 range.

Most of the people who know the necro and play PvP already knew it wouldn’t be viable form the spec update. Like many of us have said things like our weapons, lack of active defenses especially since we have no mobility, lack of meaningful support, lack of team synergy will always hold it back in conquest.

Also we now lack a proper viable heal for top tier pvp.

If you think about it we are probably one of the worst zerker classes, since everything has more active defenses/mobility in their zerker builds and even team support. Probably one of the worst at condi application classes aside from our transfers. But if the enemy comp isn’t running conditions it’s deadweight. And if you try to make a tanky necro it’ll be really selfish compared to most other bunkers and less survivable because we lack active defense. We just have a second health bar. Huehuehue.

Anet needs to look at the design of a lot of things on necro and change some of their visions for it for us to be viable in conquest PvP. Also let’s not forget these same things also make us the worst PvE profession.

I can tell you necro definitely is still with ranger in the bottom of PvP. They have an okay signet build but core problems with class design and weapon skills keep holding it back.

Most survivable burst classes + double eles looks like where things are heading atm. Wasn’t too impressed with bunker guard. I think engis will still have a spot as well just for the fact they have the best heal (imo) in the game and are so versatile. I think it’s just trying to find the most effective thing for them atm that’s the problem because they have so much.

Again though we dunno how much anet will tone down things like burning or just damage in general so we’ll have to wait and see.

If I had to rate classes overall just for fun I’d say Mesmer > Ele > Teef > Engi/Guard > War > Necro/Ranger atm.

Blood line is clearly awesome. How’s the death line? Are you using it at all in non-minion master builds?

- I don’t agree with the bloodline being awesome. The siphons are still too small, especially considering the amount of damage going around now and the support is too gimmicky. I haven’t used death at all, it’s very selfish, and no matter how tanky you try to make a necro it will always die when it’s focused or be useless to a team comp with what little they can offer. And I don’t really play MM because I don’t like AI, which is the only build I really see wanting it.

Condi was thought to be really bad before everything came out. Have you tried out This build by Zombify? How did you like it?

- The condi build by Zombify just isn’t enough pressure. I definitely prefer the power version of the signet build. I really don’t like how scepter and oh dagger ar ein PvP. Scepter is mainly 1 spam, it’s only really bleed and poison and the 3 skill needs a rework, and OH dagger is just too slow for me. Plus You can take The dagger 5 trait in curses and have enough transfers anyways.

Have you been successfully running any odd builds such as minion master or bunker?

- I’ve been mainly playing power signet necro with soldier amulet. I feel like we lack the sustain with cele and don’t use the heal power enough still. I haven’t tried condi at all (aside froma few games to test Zombify’s build) since our condi set keeps getting worse and it already lacked pressure. I haven’t ran zerker necro because literally every zerker class does the role better/counter a zerker necro. The mobility and sustain of other zerkers just completely screws ours over.

Main thoughts from me:

We really need CC fixed especially when they tone down burning damage or if they play with our signet trait imo.

We still need a lot more sustain to make up for our lack of mobility. We need some infinite scaling defense(s) like every other profession has.

Weapons need complete reworks namely axe and scepter, cast times still need fixed on offhands.

I literally took more damage from plague on a soldier necro with stacked might then 3 other people hitting me on mid to end a game. Plague needs something changed too. Just corruptions in general. NONE of them are strong enough to justify harm to yourself.

Our heals are so terrible. CC is the only one any other profession would remotely want and that’s because most can disengage before they use it so the cast time and vuln don’t hurt as much. I don’t know why people are trying to make it sound like it’s not all that bad. Luckily atm atleast vamp sig procs our signet trait otherwise we’d be even more useless after this patch.

And I’ve been running vamp signet, since our tanky signet build is the only remotely viable thing I’ve found.

Another big glaring issue. Mark of Evasion procs even when you are out of combat. Was trolling and annoying the feck out of me in arah.
