Necro

Usless in PvE – offers not group utility, mediocre cleave still, not top tier damage but atleast decent, no mobility, literally no reason to bring one

Needs help in PvP – Has no sustain, cannot handle CC, does not receive support in DS, no mobility

WvW – Well bomb bot, boon destroyer, actually useful and liked

Misc – Siphoning builds are useless and need a lot of work, Cast times (Spinal Shivers and Signet of Undeath for example) are too long, DS needs better balancing to allow some form of healing/regenerating lifeforce outside of power builds, the usual useless traits/badly placed one a lot of classes suffer from, etc.

I did say it improved, I acknowledged they in the literal definition are buffs. It’s just literally nothing that will change necro sustain in high level pvp. It doesn’t help us drop focus, or avoid damage, or be able to regen and tank hits. It will heal you more when you use the signet. Yes that is a fact. But no one would use it first of all, second of all it literally won’t help you live longer than an extra attack would do. It’s just not useful.

While might’s main problem is in PvP, in which celestial amulet stats should’ve been nerfed first imo, I think they were trying to kill two birds with one stone here, as lowering how much dps players can put out in pve will make the content harder/mechanics more relevant. I realize this won’t effect speed runners much as they will still be good and it just adds a little more time, but in general for people who don’t play meta builds with high knowledge of bosses and stack boons, lowering the overall potential damage for them adds a little bit of a harder time. I realize it probably doesn’t help make things harder, but it also doesn’t harm as much as well adding a few seconds to runs.

why dont make the enemies just hit harder?… Would be the obvios choice…but whatever

Signet of the Locust is getting a massive buff, so I wouldn’t say they’re neglecting Necro sustain. The active has always been the part making that skill bad. Ergo, buffing Signet of the Locust buffs Necro sustain. Likewise, buffing the uptime of CPC and making it more usable buffs our sustain via greater Weakness uptime.

I don’t agree with this, there’s still no reason to use it. We have solid, core problems with sustain. We have terrible healing, regen doesn’t work in ds, they want ds to be used for offense and defense, we have no active defenses, life siphoning is still a joke, etc. It doesn’t buff sustain where we need it. There are so many more important utility skills a necro use, being caught with it on your bar in WvW is just handicapping yourself. And CPC still has such niche use, corruption builds aren’t that popular and there are many ways to apply poison or weakness. I agree it’s a buff but nothing attractive enough to use it over many other skills.

My main problem is it took them so long just for these tiny things though, not the actual buffing they did.

The leaked reddit patch notes that Anet said were fake seemed much more balanced than this list does to me :x

I don’t get the balancing philosophy of waiting almost half a year to make tiny insignificant changes that doesn’t fix core obvious problems, or even fix things they’re trying too. Like patch notes like those are such tiny things they seem more fit for nudge balancing like every 2 weeks or a month since it’ll have a minimal impact (class specific change-wise.)

With that rant over I can’t see my use of any of these skills being more, the necro class has major glaring sustain issues still being ignored since day one, and it’s very annoying seeing them trying to boost underused/whelming skills that for 99% of content still won’t be used because they’re still bad and the buff is so small/irrelevant.

Being On Jade Sea it would suck being trapped with 5th and 6th, it’s nice getting 1/2/3. The variety keeps people into WvW. And to allow us those matches 1/2/3 inevitably would get pushed down to 5/6.

I haven’t cared about the overall score in over a year, and it seems like most people don’t care because there’s really no reason in winning, the extra rank chests are a joke. We all know who wins is based off who night caps more in EU. Since it’s less coverage heavy than NA.

Soft CC is the most important CC you need to prevent and Warrior warhorn/guardian purging flames usually provide enough removal, along with eles, and with -condi duration food. The warriors main role in a train are to lock down the enemy melee with flurry, keep the train moving with warhorn cleanses, and of course banners. Hammer Stuns are hard to get off with good stab rotations so it’s not as good as the sword so running axe isn’t optimal over the sword.

A dps war is completely different playstyle and purpose and shouldn’t be mixed into a hybrid with the melee train warrior or you’re just gimping the build overall.

I wouldn’t run Trooper runes on guard btw.

My finisher keeps resetting as well. If I close the hero panel while still in the finishers sub menu it seems to keep it, but if I click out of the finishers sub menu it seems to reset back to default.

While I agree there’s no really good set time to do it, doing it right before EU wvw primetime or during it is very detrimental to the EU playerbase, which I assume is the second largest/largest they have. Idk who, but a lesser populated time should probably take the bullet, I know it wouldn’t be fair to them, but it’d have a smaller effect on overall people. WvW used to reset at midnight so some midnight time for NA or EU seems like it’d be most beneficial, and would give servers who get nightcapped a tiny break.

Feels like very slow progress compared to Guild Wars 1. Many updates are small and umeaningful to large segments of the game. They either leave pve pvp or wvw players out and even if they do update one of those facets that feel left out it’s not really an update or a lot of actual content. For example a LS episode, PPK/no swords in wvw, a pvp reward track only worth doing once.

What’s ticking isn’t their latest attacks, it’s what they already hit you with. Just like the damage you’ve already taken isn’t affected by future events.

You know what I meant. The condi damage class, if given mobility/sustain can keep their damage ticking while a zerker class cannot. It’s easier to mitigate normal damage than condi damage for most classes, not everyone main necros like us.

Since when has Power= Melee and Condition= Range? You have Melee Condition specs (Sword/sword Warrior, Ranger condition specs work best in melee though using ranged weapons) and ranged Power specs (Life Blast focused Necros, staff Eles, S/F Eles, longbow Rangers, Greatsword Mesmers).

I don’t know why people try to treat kiting as some condition-exclusive strategy. It’s a ranged strategy, which has nothing at all to do with Condition Damage vs. Power

I guess I’m just not explaining it well. It takes more skill to play a power spec, in pvp/small scale. In zergs condis suffer due to mass clearing, but they’re comparitively broken to an extent the smaller the fight. Most condi specs rely on passive auto attack procs which in general aren’t fun or skillful. And yes most condi specs are ranged. P/d thief, scepter/staff mesmer, scepter/staff necro, pistol/almost every kit engi. Warrior and ranger are the only classes that remotely have to get into melee combat and warrior still has a longbow that basically is a huge area denial which can melt you.

I don’t think even if there was a glass cannon condi set (with no power) let alone the sets we have now creating the very annoying condi tanks should be more or equal dps to a power build. Landing damage is much easier in general with condis, much more passive, much safer due to stats available atm, I don’t see why it should be rewarded as much. I’ve always thought they should remove it as a major stat anyways and have it as just an add on feature to skills, and remove the damaging proccing ones from traits.

This is all just my opinion of course, I’m not claiming I’m right, it’s just the way I see it.

There is no condi duration armor, and only exotic weapons of it but it doesn’t have condi damage on it, which aren’t accessible in pvp.

If they had a glass cannon version like that it’d be interesting to see. I still think zerk should do more damage seeing as condi classes all use ranged for the most part, and their damage passively ticks so they don’t always need to land something. There’s still more risk in zerk imo.

I’ll reflect on zerk should do greater dmg thn rabid.I disagree. With the rampup time in mind I could safely say condition characters should be able to dish out 20% more damage with conditions and then they still could be outdamaged by zerks by using a clean at certain moments, cleansing ire warriors can clean 2-3 conditions every 7-10s, without using additional cleans, Each clean resetting the damage output for a condi build to 0 , new stacks heve to be applied, a new rampup is started.

Saying DPS should outweigh DOT in max damage is saying i do not want any condi builds in game IMHO.

The problem is the condi tank gears like rabid and dire. Zerker you need 3 offensive stats, and condi you only need 1, so they can’t be more tanky and do more damage. And giving cleansing ire war as an example is not a good representation of all classes condi clearing capabilities.

In fact the other day I was doing a gvg and was being trained by the enemy melee, so I tried to dark path to an ele to get distance. I downed. And then teleported in downed state..

It even stays on target when downed :P

It’s not like you’re forced to map to get a legendary, you can always buy one. It’s not like you need an exotic waterbreather, there’s not much underwater content and people have used masterwork/rare ones this whole time. You just want these items but don’t like the way they were implemented, in which case if it’s not fun for you to get you shouldn’t. But that doesn’t mean you can’t keep playing the game and enjoying the parts you already do. And if you think you can’t enjoy a game because of a few tiny pvp related things then you probably didn’t enjoy it much to begin with before that.

Basically if you want those things do them and appreciate that this game has 3 game modes and if you choose to limit yourself to 1 then you’ll limit yourself to certain things in game. It’s a choice issue not an Anet issue.

I generally don’t like it because my guild usually pokes something big to draw a blob or a guild to us, but without swords we’re getting less reactions than normal. And we can’t see where a possible group may be at as easily.

The impact on higher tier servers isn’t as bad imo though as they generally have people scouting and willing to scout and more numbers to protect things. Lower tier it basically seems pointless because yeah you can ninja a lot of stuff but you get a lot of stuff ninja’d from you due to lower numbers.

After playing WoW for a bit I don’t really see why people like mounts that much. I mean you move faster, and can fly, but they’re just kinda random, they don’t really fit in. I don’t really care if gw2 adds them, but if they do I want a random rainbow unicorn.

But yeah it generally seems pointless since it can kinda nullify JPs and Vistas, and we have a billion waypoints.

Since it’s a channeled skill it will follow you when you stealth. If you think you stealthed before it was cast then it’s probably just a latency thing and you’re not seeing it real time. I haven’t experienced any problem where channeled skills follow me while I’m stealthed unless I stealth after the cast, which is working as intended.

I like the idea of just hiding the enemy comp if that’s the problem, because anyone who has 3 or 4 of the same profession on their team generally is going to have a bad time.

I think most people in general stopped caring about ppt long ago, besides the smaller tier servers. As they have a lot fewer players and tighter communities where everyone knows everyone and have to do a lot more work to upgrade/scout they’re the ones that still try. Mainly because there’s not much action going on elsewhere and they just want to protect their friends’ work.

If what I think is true it explains all the nightcapping threads atleast, because higher tier servers in general don’t have much difference in night populations, atleast in eu. SFR/Deso/Kodash/JS/FSP all have the ability to produce the same numbers.

Eventually I fear they’re going to just make it like EOTM, which would be even worse than the situation now. So let’s be happy we still have server identities for the people who do care for PPT/their server.

If it’s a mesmer you can literally just walk away. It’s kind of funny and sad at the same time.

I know one time on my warrior I just sat down and let them autoattack me, and they were randomly using the scepter block and dodging, it was quite funny as my healing signet just kept outhealing the condis. Of course, said mesmer was terrible.

Generally when I see any condi roamer, especially thief/mesmer I just walk away because it’s not worth the hassle, as the fight doesn’t even register as close to enjoyable or worth the time.

Armor rating for necros?

There is no set number really, just enough for you to survive on. Necros normally go close to full glass in zergs with how they’re used for well bombs, but I don’t know how you play. When you say you run warhorn and close it seems like you’d need a lot more armor to stay in the train, but if you can live off lower armor then do it.

I know melees stick around 3k give or take a little more or less, but you should be less since I assume you’re not in the train the whole time, if that gives you any starting point.

Someone will tell you it anyways but the meta for necros right now in zergs in 6/2/0/0/6 with as much zerker as possible, and running axe/focus and staff. If you ever need advice on that should you choose to change you should get a lot more help from people since many are experienced with that.

I personally run around 2.1k armor but I don’t go into melee to use the warhorn, I stay at ranged lifeblasting rogue squishies/melee and overall range pressuring the train when my wells are on cooldown. In small scale skirmishes power necro can be really good depending on the matchup you fight, even your current knight build, but expect to start hating longbow rangers with every bone in your body. I wouldn’t use warhorn in small scale though, but if you want to keep it and think you’re good at it and it works then yolo. In general the more armor you add in a power build the less successful you’ll be though in small scale due to you kinda rely on your glass cannon damage since you can’t sustain in combat very properly with the current necro mechanics.

A side note, I believe crit chance has a soft cap somewhere, I forgot the number but I think it’s like 85% (someone can correct me if I’m wrong), which I believe is what you were alluding to into dropping more precision for armor. I don’t like gear that’s not main stat power in general unless it’s a piece or two as it does overall hurt your power.

I think a lot of people are overselling and underselling the necro in this thread. Either calling others bad or delusional. Technically you can win or kill someone with any build in pvp, there’s so many random factors involved including skill levels and team comps and latency and if skills decide to work or not.

The top end of PvP should be where we judge the necro, and the lack of them besides condi—which are only there to directly counter the celestial engis/condi engis everywhere, and to an extent dd eles. I have a strong feeling if no major changes are made and something hits the current engi/dd ele builds that you’ll see even less necros. Which you only really see in NA anyways, EU lacks them just because teams don’t run as many engis/eles the people in NA do.

I know I commented earlier in this thread, but to voice my opinion again, necros are basically nukes, either with the condi/fear spam pressure or the 6k lifeblasts and wells. If you run condi you can take a little more focus, but the fact is if you don’t have a s walk/wurm port you’ll never escape a competent player. And with power you’re literally a nuke, but you leave room for 1 stun break/escape if you carry wells so you’re not escaping anything. You can position all you want but with the amount of gap closers/blinks/point cap nature of PvP you will still die countless amounts of time since you’re too overpowered offensively and too weak defensively. People know you’re a threat but you’re such an easy kill if the team takes 5 seconds to focus you, and this is why I think the necro needs help. Anet wants us to use death shroud as defense and offense, but yet give us none in the beginning of the fight. We have to use the minion trick to get any. Our only defense is what we should be using for offense, so until we get some form of vigor/blocks/invulns/mobility/huge siphoning buffs we’ll never be able to sustain/handle focus and that’s needed to be viable in the top end of pvp, atleast in my opinion. Teams right now do need to peel off and protect their necros, regardless of positioning like some people in this thread say. If they’re not you’re just fighting teams not prioritizing proper targets.

Bumping.

I really hope SAB comes back. For me it was very fun, and unique. It was a game inside a game, with a lot of neat skins you could get, and it brought back many old game memories.

I think there are distinct differences in the lore of how it all happened. That charr version (obviously) paints him as a crazy maniac, where if I remember correctly human history is a little more sympathetic. History is weird like that yo, we don’t really know because we’ll always have some biased views presented to us.

Personally I think he went loco.

I think most people forget Charr were in Ascalon first, so really the humans are the evil kittens, and Charr are nice fluffy kittens.

Humans should go back to their first realm with the Gods since they’re the source of all of this drama in Tyria.
