The downed state damage is silly. I feel even worse than I would playing a turret build when I have to slot the downed damage trait because it’s literally one of our best things right now.

I would love for things like Lich form, downed damage, chill of death procs to all be less gimicky, but Anet seems intent on a selfish, high damage, useless everywhere else design for the necro. I’m sorry to say but most people will need to wait for a lot of reworking on the necro before these things are balanced better or else the profession will be even more irrelevant.

Tl;dr What can they give necro that will stick to the design they want (low mobility, slow but hard attacks, very selfish oriented, debuffer not buffer) that will give it valuable use in PvP tournaments?

Lately there’s been a lot of talk about the profession due to the recent specialization reveal. I’ve been seeing a lot of PvE threads discussing how to make the necro more wanted in groups, but I haven’t seen as much talk about the PvP necro.

If you really think about it the necro suffers from the same problems in PvP as PvE, being they don’t have the stuff meta builds currently do. We lack mobility besides pre cast ports. We have no active defense or sustain. We have slow cast times and avoidable attacks. We have long cooldowns/ramp up time on our burst. We start matches with no lifeforce, and it’s hard to generate for condi builds. We have gimmicky things like lich form, procs, and our downed state damage keeping us relevant. I don’t think many necros like that we have such cheesy things, but it’s all we have. We need the most support given to us even though most of our builds never spend time on point because against any decent team you will be focused first and hard, and we also have the hardest time being peeled off for due to no heals in death shroud, our bad mobility, etc.

Power necro is our best build currently. Lich form swings team fights. Life blast hits hard. Our wells are also very nice cleave on downed/area denial. The 3rd utility is usually a preference. Most people will take a stunbreak so you’ll see like Spectral walk/armor/wurm. The problem is how easy it is to kill a power necro. If you get focused there’s literally nothing you can do. Our defenses are bad, we don’t get heals while bailing in DS. Now I honestly don’t see much of a problem with this since we are zerker. The problem it feels like is classes like thief/mesmer/guardian all have nowhere near the same risk as running zerker. I’m not sure if this is more of a necro needs buffed or other classes toned down sustain wise. Of course you can’t really balance defense/sustain when 2 of the classes have access to great in combat mobility/stealth.

For condi necro damage wise we don’t have a very good condi build right now stacking mainly bleeds from scepter 1, and the occasional torment from DS 5. With the amount of condi clears provided by shoutbows alone it’s very hard to be useful in team fights. Ele and Engi and Guardian also all have group cleanses which basically will negate any condi build. Do people think this is more of a the meta classes are too well balanced and these classes are too good, or what specifically could be buffed to help condi necro breach in/help change the meta? I know some people seem to think reaper dhuumfire is going to be amazing but I’m not so sure. I still find it ridiculous incendiary powder still exists after what happened to dhuumfire and that our nerfs never got fixed but that’s another discussion.

For MM necro I have my doubts about an AI build ever being useful in PvP. For one the minions of any profession all seem to have random phases where they will or won’t work. They’ll almost always be aoed and a casuality in team fights. And mobility wise they’re not very good because they’ll get stretched out. They can excel at 1v1s on point that I’ve seen, but judging from how many of the PvPers see AI I don’t think Anet will have have another turret level of usefulness into a profession. I know it’s not as passive as people to make it out to be, but I’m not sure of how it’d ever get into a meta.

Any type of defensive/bunker necro I will never see happening atm. The incoming damage reduction modifiers seem like a step in the right direction since they seem to not want to give us blocks/invuln/vigor, but I still have my doubts.

Basically from the tone of this post I guess I’m feeling either the other classes have too much or we just have too little. It seems silly to think that only the necro and maybe to an extent the ranger are the only professions balanced correctly, so I lean more toward the we don’t have enough. I know a lot of numbers and traits haven’t been finalized, but judging from what we saw from the core trait revamp and specializations so far, it seems like a bigger power creep is coming into PvP. Reaper was very aesthetically pleasing, but it can’t save the profession and the core problems. I know things are still subject to change but I think the other classes getting power creeped after already being ahead of us by so much and not having a design that seems to conflict with most game modes will leave us in the same spot as now.

I think berserker will work but i don’t think berserker and spite trait line should be mixed. Ofcourse there are probably a few who have already decided to do this but it shouldn’t come as a surprise when they suddenly get one shotted by Dragon hunter trueshot with +50% damage.

Why does the spite trait line have any relevance to that?

Sounds like he thinks you’ll die if you don’t trait defensively in zerker. You’ll still lack active defense and mobility in roaming though. Might as well kill as fast as you can before you get outnumbered.

This is a known bug, Mr. Fox, it happens when you open a chest inside of a PvP map! You should always do it in heart of the mists and not in a fighting map! I hope this gets fixed and you don’t forget next time!

The only really well designed weapon concept/cooldown/execution wise that I think thenecro has is the warhorn.

Staff is really kind of bland. Great at aoe and our most useful utility, but I’d rework the auto attack at the very least, and have #4 transfer ally conditions again too.

Axe is really only useful to me in WvW in a GvG type of environment. #2 can channel for 10k on squishies. #1 skill I think needs a complete rework, 3 should be a blast too imo.

Scepter is alright I guess. I think they could make the auto attack more interesting/regenerate life force better and #3 to be changed to another condi applying move, preferably to help cover easy to get conditions.

Dagger could use a cd reduction on the immob, 25s is ridiculous especially for that cast time, and since we have trouble keeping people close to us.

OH Dagger. Nice skills, would like a little bit of a cast time reduction or cd reduction. Just one or the other.

Focus I really only use in WvW, I realize it’s in the PVE meta but I play WvW/PvP mainly so my main use for it again is in WvW, especially spinal shivers on eles. Would reduce cast times on both skills if I could.

I feel like the weapons have more of a PvP designed mentality and we ironically are designed badly for PvP. It’s hard to see a place in the meta for a class with low mobility/active defense or just straight up no invulnerablity. And rarely any support. Would be cool if some skills got reworked though.

We should be able to finish in downed state since it’s our strongest form.

I’m more scared of unranked since most teammates either seem confused there or I get a lot more tryhard premades trying to farm. Ranked gives better matches and better maps imo.

Just go to WvW or PvP, I still don’t understand how people can restrict themselves then complain when they can easily do something in less than 10 minutes.

Leveling shouldn’t even exist in games. It’s just a way to timegate/make you grind for actual fun things/keep you around longer. If GW2 didn’t have levels would the game be any different at all? I don’t think so, there’d be a lot more alts I’d think though.

Late game is a subjective term and different for anybody.

Judging from your opinions you like to PvE, in which case GW2 doesn’t really offer the traditional idea of what people call endgame.

WvW has never really had a point. It’s always had bad rewards, people have just done WvW because it is fun to them.

Learning PvP or enjoying PvP will always be good in every game because playing against others will always stagnate slower than scripted ai/events. It’ll keep you around longer imo.

If you have nothing to fun to do right now take a break, and wait and see more details for HoT. If you still don’t see your type of endgame there you might as well look for a new game.

- Is a fact. Even the best guild in EU, TA, had to cheese back against guilds like LaG. So unless you’re better than TA? (This is irrelevant to venomshare wells, just cheesy things in general.)

- The point alluded to my pvp balance comment, a majority of these posters are obviously just talking about pug blobbing where there’s no sense of organization or skill. Again, it’s like Anet nerfing things in Spvp not due to top tier play but to casuals.

- I have no clue what guild you are/were in. The only guild that had that type of dominance against us would’ve been TA though. It got so bad before Re disbanded TA were the only guild that wouldn’t leader focus or try something gimmicky and lame and actually were fun to fight against.

- These counters do not work if you’re playing people of equal skill level, your cleanses won’t keep up and you’ll get caught in a bomb and blown up. So unless you’re just fighting crappier opponents or doing something to them I don’t believe you at all. Suggesting we didn’t do everything possible to try and counter that without ruining the scene and being cheesy back is a joke.

Sometimes I wonder if people go through real life without talking to anybody because they’re scared of too many things. I get some people are shy, but you eventually need to be able to talk to people in the world. There will always be annoying and rude people, but there will always be nice and helpful people too. You just take the good with the bad.

There is that too of course. However, the negatives far outweigh the positives. I can win matches, and make friends without in-game VOIP.

As far as not talking to anyone in RL. I don’t talk to many. I purposly avoid people, groups specifically. I have a touch of PTSD and some anxiety. Put me in a group of more than 5 people, and I’m looking for an escape and what would be the best way to take out that dude by the door.
So I should just “deal with it” and put myself in situations where I could have a panic attack, nervous breakdown, or hurt someone? Because there might be some “good” people in the group? Yeah don’t think so.

You should probably get some help if you’re that bad. I used to be pretty shy also, but I got over it. I wouldn’t even enter PvP or WvW, but now I’m rank 80 and over rank 2400 in WvW and was in a great GvG guild.

I don’t think using extreme cases from either side is very useful, like saying it’d make PvP perfect or that every shy person in the world will have a heart attack. It’s just a suggestion, people can like it or not, they can give reasons for it, but if everyone tries insulting the other side about it because of their wants and needs that’s just useless. For instance saying not everyone is comfortable is fine, but to keep elaborating and going on about how people like you should suffer and have a heart attack is a little extreme. But some advocates of VOIP do the same thing telling people to suck it up and they’ll be fine and it’ll make PvP amazing, so you just have to weigh the average of both sides.

25 on 1 person, I believe resistance should help with that if used properly. I know there are bugs around immobilize but fun/boring are opinions, you never know what you will fight there are no rules.

To be fair it’s not 25, only thieves get the 5 stacks I believe and the rest get 2 judging from the video. You’d need 2 thieves to get that realistically. It’s still beyond broken though via it stacking or pulsing. Resistance indeed would help, but it’s just annoying WvW will never get the balance it deserves and that players will exploit whatever to win.

For WvW I know some people make alt charrs for frontline and asura for backline/focus party.

It’s weird how people are reporting a different amount of chests/different boosters as well. Has to be more than one factor involved.

When I don’t have my gank squad available for raid or GvGing, we will use venom wells. Sometimes, when the guild you’re supposed to fight shows up an hour late, we’ll use venom wells just to mess with them.

Lets be honest though, any group that is paying attention, will wait until your dodge-rolls and some of your skills are spent before they will venom well-bomb you. You don’t initiate your fights with venom wells, that is still the realm of Eles, and the frontline.

Such kittened cancer, it makes me ashamed to even be a necro. People just trying to blow up drivers or trains. I wish people would try to improve on coordination and skills instead of being gimicky and abusing whatever they can to win. Even if they were an hour late I would tell my thieves and other necros to kitten off because winning like that is never fun. But yeah, as people can blatantly see there’s nothing healthy about that.

The main perk of a shortbow is you can be a rainbow with bifrost and the dreamer and rainbow unicorn finisher. Only the druid will have this godly status it seems like though.

I know other RPGs have done it, but it’s a bad system isn’kitten Anet purposely made them weak so we could be whatever we wanted. Some people like odd lore characters like a norn engi or whatever. You see much more character diversity when people aren’t pigeon holed into a race. They’d probably be better off just getting rid of them and replacing them what profession skills, but I think RPers still use them so I don’t know if that’d be a good idea.

The first beta was pretty boring, so I just didn’t bother trying to get a key for the second one. I kind of feel like it’s a waste of time playing with things that aren’t set in stone like skills and traits or won’t be saved for me.

It’d be pretty annoying having to change to a race you don’t want to be to get a certain skill. I don’t see why anyone would want that?

If it had jumping I’d call it better overall than GW2. Even graphics wise things like Primeval look better in GW1 to me. And chaos axe <3

Ele is the best by far if you mean useful/damaging aoe. Guard is the best for tagging stuff though.

and outside of prime it’s a roamers’ paradise with many solo-cappers & havoc groups running around, without having to fear to get steam-rolled by zone-blobbs.

solo capping and havoc groups sounds terribly boring to me. Basically the definition of dead WvW. I feel like in T1 there is not enough going on, cant imagine how it is in T7.

It’s more fun and skillful then zerging all the time. All i do is roam and havoc. But each to their own.

I wouldn’t exactly call it more skillful, the majority of roaming/1v1 builds are typically cheesy/easy to play. Although I don’t understand why people prefer small scale fights in a large scale fight game mode. The balanced game mode is PvP, and people normally just whine they don’t like the scenery or they can’t break or cheese their build in PvP. But yeah being a guard in most blobs I wouldn’t say is very skillful either.

Think it depends if you’re EU or NA, I think the lower tiers are much more dead in EU due to 3 more servers and a smaller playerbase.

Probably because it’s the same amount of syllables to say NY or New York, however city has an extra syllable. You hear things like NYPD all the time though.

The inhabitants are casual every day people though, I’m sure they’d say like “Just popping down to LA to do some trading/work on rebuilding” , so I don’t see why it’s out of the realm to say DR.

I’d rather keep them, I wouldn’t be opposed to like an experience reward track that only has them, but have them somewhere in a track.

How is abbreviating an overly long name a lack of reverence or weird or immersion breaking? I swear people try to find problems with everything.
