I’d rather have just 1 amulet, it makes balancing a lot easier.

I don’t think people realize how miniscule the effect some of the stats have on their character in certain situations. The people this would oddly hurt most are like WvW roamers, which are probably the smallest segment of any player base. People who GvG or pug zerg would also be affected but it wouldn’t be as big of a deal if they couldn’t slot a couple pieces here or there than say like full soldier’s.

Probably would cause less drama in PvE too.

How do I beat a ranger?

Guess i’ll have to keep practicing. The key seems to be to close the distance, but we don’t have a lot of great distance closing skills. Is there an obvious tell on their long range KB? I always try to dodge it but I never seem to time it right. Also rapid fire I can dodge like 2 of the 500 hits it does, but what do you do for the rest of them?

Their knockback has a 1/2 second cast time and can be sped up with a trait, so for me it’s kind of a guessing game more than watching the tell which looks like pin down it’s like a tiny white light on the arrow. Honestly I’m avoiding 1v1ing a power ranger unless I have no other choice. If I’m getting rapid fired I’m usually on my way running out of range/to line of sight. Sometimes you’ll have to burn dodges or death shroud.

It’s going to be sooner than later. They need to get it out asap so teams have time to prepare for WTS. It might not make significant changes to comps, but you never know it could.

Mesmers, thieves and engis saw big changes. Warriors will see 2 more grandmaster traits in the current shoutbow build. Medi guard builds will change. Dd eles can pick diamond skin – I mean it’s a big shake up. Maybe necros will even see decent traits.

One thing I’ve learned is that even relatively small developments reverberate through the meta, so big changes are hard to gauge. It could change a lot.

I agree I’m expecting more changes than not. Nos should be able to be a lot more useful for Abjured so EU won’t embarrass NA as badly this time. Like every other necro in the world, I’m hoping for dat useful blood magic/siphoning too.

The problem with necro in the meta right now is we don’t really have a role we’re good at. Our power build is the most useful one atm, but it’s still outshined by other zerkers due to sustain/mobility.

The best thing you can do solo queing is learning how to lich properly, it easily swings the opening team fight, but you have to definitely work on not being overly agressive because any competent player/team will focus you first.

I also still suggest vampirism over pack runes because that is the closest thing to defense we have with that build. And I normally run spectral walk over armor so I don’t need the swiftnes suptime as much.

Also landing dagger 3 makes your wells so much more useful.

And warhorn and dagger cleave are great for thieves on you/people rezzing someone.

Honestly the main thing I suggest is positioning and knowing when and when not to engage/go on point. If you mess up you’ll know it and fast, we have no get out of jail cards.

If you’re running power necro and there’s no place to line of sight you don’t win. You just cannot make up the range without eating too much damage/wasting lifeforce. People are suggesting random utilities to deal with them but most would never be used together in a PvP build.

I still find it very lackluster in PvP, which is the only gamemode I’d ever use it in. Takes too long and since I manly play zerker staying 600 range for that whole channel can be a death sentence. If I’m going to be 600 or less range I want to be able to use my auto attack since it’s so much better for damage and cleave.

Maybe I’d notice it being better if we had more bunkery/sustain builds.

PvE is kind of hard to be endgame content imo because it’s all scripted AI. Yeah you can make it challenging but it’s always predictable and eventually will get boring/mundane for me.

I’d like to throw in some more support for Spectral Walk/Wurm over armor, a lot of times with armor you still can’t escape and just last a couple more seconds, whereas the extra mobility from the first 2 allows you to flat out avoid hits/rotate better.

Armor is still great, I’m just surprised it’s used so heavily over the others.

I honestly don’t even see how this is QoL but more like a random buff that steal didn’t need. It’s really not hard to keep track of the steal cd, and you just burn the bundle on air if you want steal to use again. It really is not killing them to have to waste a bundle every now and then.

Si. I also realize how siphons have been in this game for almost 3 years, and I think it’s silly Anet like to keep us from interacting with others. It really hurts any chance the necro has at ever being in a PvP meta. We can’t live through focus since Anet doesn’t want us to have any form of active defense, atleast let our only line of defense be able to be supported by our team.

I’m thinking more along the lines of scenarios that rely more on defense than offense to win or to clear a given objective, kind of like how bunkers work in pvp.

But what you stated about stat/ build diversity is more of a flaw with the way stats work in this game. There aren’t many active stats that can change your playstyle. Condition damage and healing power could, if they were more useful. Toughness and vitality, not.

I think that this is the core problem that restricts gear diversity. Offensive stats help everyone but defensive stats are selfish. Healing Power is the exception but it’s application is so niche as to be effectively redundant. There is just no way of gearing for anything other than pure damage while still making an effective contribution to your party.

Many people enjoy a playstyle that focuses primarily on support but the game mechanics just don’t allow it, at least at a comparable level of efficiency to a zerker DPS role. The fact that so many supportive skills (e.g. reflects, stealth, Might/Fury/Vuln stacking etc.) require no stat investment to be optimal exacerbates this. The linear scale of Offensive -> Defensive gear options just reduces to an Efficient -> Inefficient scale, and that’s what stifles gear diversity for players who want to be efficient.

Some people just whine about not being able to put on Soldier’s gear and play as a tank, which I agree shows a lack of understanding regarding the combat system in GW2. However, tweaking the combat system such that there’s a roughly equal opportunity cost for a DPS role in zerker gear vs a support role in some kind of supporty gear could be achieved by increasing the scope of stats like Healing Power.

Really diversity is there, it will never be optimal in PvE though because there’s always fixed and expected things. Everything will always be scripted in some form, in some sequence, you’ll always know what the enemy is using. If you have the tools to deal with this the optimal thing is always going to be whatever does the most damage.

In WvW people use diverse gear all the time because mixing and matching is optimal for how their groups are made. There’s just too much aoe if you’re in the frontline, and guilds all like a certain toughness or vitality number and maybe add some healing power. Of course backline are generally all zerker, but that’s because they’re meant to be the main form of damage so.. Anyways generally you never know the size of the guilds/zergs you will be fighting and the fighting style they’ll use so you always have spare trinkets to change up accordingly.

People really just need to avoid zerker groups or make their own group. I know the dungeon guys get a bad rep but I don’t blame them for losing their minds repeating the same common sense day in and day out to people who think nerfing zerker will make the game better. No, it just means whatever will do the most damage next is the next armor.

A lot of the diversity pleas come from people experienced with the trinity, and seemingly have a hard time grasping what active defense means. The trinity is here in it’s unique form, it just doesn’t operate the same as they’re used to seeing. It doesn’t make the game bad, ‘harder’ content doesn’t mean zerker gear, or the next form of it wouldn’t exist, these people are literally trying to change how the game was made and is played for no reason but to see a certain role they want brought from another game or so they don’t feel pressured to run glassy.

Everything is better once you’re 80, especially after the NPE. You can use the traits you want and skills you want. If you’re map completing it’s much faster, a lot of people have done it to a point they don’t want to sight see anymore. You can also jump into dungeon groups and WvW and be useful and have a lot more fun.

Ideas like this, and the whole necro having no mobility, and being really cool and slow all make it great thematically. But Anet keeps shoving the thematics so much they aren’t realizing it isn’t meshing with how game modes and other professions are designed. That’s been a problem since the game started.

Like it all sounds cool on paper, but it never practically pans out in any way shape or form. That’s probably why you see so many people ask for things other professions have because they just want to be viable or as useful.

You can keep theme and still give useful things. Like dark path is mobility. But they had to make the projectile slower than even a necro so it’s terrible mobilty. Necros can have blast finishers without being some clunky minion wasting a utility slot. Stuff like that needs to be fixed. But yeah, same thing happened to the light shoulder skin Deathly Mantle. When there’s so few stock of something it almost always happens that the last one is bought up and relisted at an outrageously high price. But yeah it’s an unintended evil I guess from having limited time items.

Just put in a buy order at a price you think it’s worth to you and maybe someone will sell, most people have a number they will stop paying at even if there’s only 1 left.

If there had to be a fractal reward track, giving weapons would be pretty unfair.

I love some of the skins, but hate fractals. But I know the people who love fractals can barely even get the skins as of now. They would have to do a relic exchange thing, and if they have that set up maybe have a track that offers a pristine relic at the end or something so PvPers can save up for the weapons.

I don’t really have a problem with exclusive rewards for either side either though, it gets people into other game modes or some things show your skill level in that game mode.

Of course this all comes from a casual friendly game where Arenanet wants everyone to have fun and be rewarded. So I wouldn’t be surprised if someone had a good solution and Anet wanted to incoporate it so it became available in some way through the other game modes at some time. Vice versa with the llama which is already being given out at streams for nothing and maybe glorious hero armor some day who knows.

Isn’t WvW more designed for siege capturing/large scale battles though? The masteries, and titles seem to lean toward that thinking.

Roaming is like GvG, it’s just a different way to play WvW, and way more enjoyable to some of us and they should promote more ways to play it, but I don’t know how well they can really balance rewards between things. This isn’t to say they shouldn’t try to find a way to, but they probably need ideas because it seems like a difficult problem as a whole. I think things should be looked at as well, but I honestly have no constructive idea how.

Generally the most fun things are least rewarding money wise in most of my game experiences, but if I’m having fun then I’ll take that over some digital gold I had to suffer through a few hours of things I hate. Life sucks sometimes, yo.

The real concern here is one of the world bosses that actually has phases besides spamming auto attack on it the whole fight is the one where he questions the design.

Phases are fine. When the boss stretches out an encounter due to invulnerability or inaccessibility, that isn’t fine. It’s boring and unengaging. Do you find it fun when you aren’t able to fight the boss and have to do something else? I don’t. It’s one reason I avoid Tequatl. The megalaser phases stink. I even hate Karkas with all their stupid evades. It artificially elongates the fights for no good reason.

Instead of having intelligent phases that require some coordination, phases like these force players to do something else since damaging the boss is impossible until some other task is done. A better way would be if the boss had some lethal sort of attack that would only happen if this one thing was there. Whether it be an add or an object, it would be something that had to be dealt with while the boss is still active. Or maybe the boss has a weak point that can be exposed if you do something like hit it with an explosive barrel or an add dies near it. There are tons of ways to make bosses more interesting and engaging other than forcing players to do something else since the boss can’t be touched at certain times.

Which is fine. The bosses that burn in less than 2 minutes from doing nothing is quite silly and even more disengaging imo though. Jormag time wise is probably more accurate to wvw or pvp if you take in how fast you gain money, so I don’t really have a problem with the time it takes. I wouldn’t have any problem with a rework though if they found something they thought would be more challenging/engaging.

I don’t think many people would enjoy it. The perk of GW2 is you can instantly PvP without having to grind or do anything. I think rewards should always be in the forms or items from tournaments/titles. They’ve also added many PvE tracks for people.

And just honestly I’ve never been a fan of levels in game. It’s just a generic barrier to keep you away from things longer. I’ve just never really felt the whole progression thing from numbers in MMO. Fights/Missions/some challenging task ingame always made more sense to me in unlocking things than that experience bar that goes up from anything.

The power creep is already coming with specilizations with a lot of the really good and useful traits being put in proper spots and complete reworks of useless lines. This would make PvP properly broken.

PvE it just adds even more damage to what we can pump out now so proper parties will have even more trivialized content.

WvW don’t even mention how many already broken roaming builds get stronger.

If they did allow stat allocation obviously it’d need a cap you could put on each stat, but I don’t see why they would do it to begin with.

Let’s be honest, $2 is laughable. And arbitrarily taking random things to seperate from expansions that you can buy alone is just a slippery slope that will give them more headaches from requests or people whining about silly things, and would hurt how much money they get. It’ll take (imo) atleast 10-30 people wanting this to make up for just one person who buys the expansion.

Plus their goal is to get people playing all parts of the game to help prevent it from getting stale and add longevity to the franchise, seperating PvE and PvP perks that you can select and buy kind of hurt their game. Why would they want to accept people will never PvE or PvP? That just leads to a more divided smaller community on both sides.

I think the second weapon set really depends on how the core trait rework pans out (pvp wise). I would say dagger/wh synergizes best with the gs, but imo you literally can’t afford to lose the utility/range on staff with what we current have. Any half decent team will focus you and you’ll just die with no mobility or sustain.

PvE definitely dagger + wh/focus would go with gs the best.

The PvE dailies are probably the hardest to complete. I think Anet purposefully did it so people would venture into PvP or WvW more. It’s kinda silly I can do PvP or WvW in 5 minutes and PvE actually takes effort to do.

You’re seeing more power necros because the build currently is very trolly and easy to pick up and play at a standard level. It’s not a lot of effort to roll someone with lich form or downed damage or the procs it has. Once more pugs realize you focus the necro first because it can’t survive in any build any type of proper focus they’ll go find a better class. Class needs a rework before these things get balanced out though.

I don’t really know how I feel about this thread. It comes off like saying the ele needs this to keep his rightful spot in the meta and it needs to be dd. Not all classes will be meta. From what we’ve seen ele is either balanced to be broken or useless in PvP and I get that’s annoying.

I think the bigger issue is these celestial classes. They can do so much at once, support, hold a point, damage, cc all at a very high level. Most professions have to spec so hard into a certain way they don’t get the versatility and effectiveness as these and it seems like ele having to choose between these 2 traits is them being normalized like the others. I think instead of keeping ele on par with war and engi all 3 need to be brought down to a certain extent. Either that or remove the celestial amulet so the classes that can’t use everything effectively at once aren’t forced out of the meta and anet can probably balance better knowing each amulet has a certain purpose for the profession. Like cleric will be support/sustain and zerker would be damage etc.

Just my opinion though.
