I wonder if they should make precursors drop similarly to greens in GW1. Assign a specific one to a specific boss (not an easy one per se either), give it like a 1% drop chance and release the hounds….

Edit: as well as creating the craftable, and the scavenger hunt. So people have options…but they should all equate to roughly the same amount of work/time

Without further clarification (which we won’t get, because they can’t be that clear with us for aforementioned reasons) neither of us is right, neither of us is wrong. It simply is what it is, and all we can do is what and see….

Off course we don’t know for sure. But “highest risk for not making it this year” is a nice way to say no. So don’t expect it, or you will be disappointed.

If he said something like “our plan is to release it this year but we don’t know for sure as it needs testing” that is a maybe.

He did say that plans may change depending on how testing goes. “At highest risk” is simply development jargon. It means exactly what it says it means

ie – based on workload, or testing, or platform changes, or any other number of reasons this specific item is ‘at risk’ of not meeting its predefined deadline.

This does not mean that it won’t make it’s deadline. Conversely it also does not mean that it will. It depends on a lot of factors:
What are the bottlenecks being encountered?
Are there easy solutions to those bottlenecks?
Are there additional resources that could be temporarily reassigned to help with those issues?
Should additional man hours be required in order to meet the deadline, or is it more cost effective to simply push it out?
If additional man hours are required (ie overtime), how much would be necessary?
Could the deadline still be met in a reasonable tested fashion, or would it be safer to wait until a later deployment time?

I’m actually dealing with something very similar at work right now, as we work on migrating a section of our client’s desktop application to a web application. It’s never ‘simple.’

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

so that means no precursor making this year?

Not necessarily. He simply said its the greatest risk for not making the year end deadline, not that they wouldn’t. Honestly, I feel that they should simply take the time they need to get it right, rather then just rushing something out the door to make people happy. If they miss the deadline, so what. He’s stated that it is something they are doing, I’m sure a few extra months wouldn’t kill us if they needed more time to fine tune.

What he basically said is that it is not going to happen. Colin never answers any question directly. So don’t expect it this year.

No, what he said is what he said. The reason they do not answer questions directly, is because if they say “Yes, it’s going to be here this year”, and it’s not, then players get very disgruntled about “Broken Promises”. If you are familiar with the “Video”, than you know how long players hold grudges

chuckle

People are still holding grudges from things said about GW1 that never made it. They learned ages ago to never speak plainly to their player base. It just bites them in the kitten. Hell, even when they do meet deadlines, it still bites them in the kitten. Can’t win for losing…

@Xcom: See, this is why communication is not a black and white thing. You interpret what he said one way, I (being a developer myself) interpret it another way. Without further clarification (which we won’t get, because they can’t be that clear with us for aforementioned reasons) neither of us is right, neither of us is wrong. It simply is what it is, and all we can do is what and see….

Maybe always means No, thats what I’ve learned.

They used ‘maybe’ with the LFG tool as well…and we got that… Maybe simply means ‘maybe’

When getting on these forums, you have to close your eyes and take a sip that way you don’t see anything… absurd.

lol I’ll keep that in mind

On point though,
There is nothing wrong with having negative & positive views in different posts, but as long as their not condescending to each other. I for one, have different views depending on the topic discussion.

As an overall game, Guild Wars 2 offers a lot. I say this because you get constant support and feature updates even though the game was a one time fee. Sure, there are some cash-shop limits (Bank Storage, mining picks, etc), but if you compare the support and feature updates to another one-time purchase game, I’d say it’s a bang for your buck.

I personally put money into the Cash-Shop for two reasons, First and foremost, I want something that Gems offer, and two, I like to support the team hard at work.

I don’t particularly agree in some of the ideals or directions, but that’s why I’m on these forums. I want to share my opinion to everyone else who is passionate, and also give the Devs some insight on what I didn’t care for.

Right, just because a person agrees with one aspect, doesn’t mean he or she will agree with all aspects, and in some cases may have mixed feelings all together. Nothing wrong with that, like you pointed out. I’m the same way.

However, in the case of the OP, the majority of his posts are overwhelmingly negative (I’ve fought with him a few times on various topics), which was what was so surprising when I saw the post. Thought maybe I was thinking of the wrong person, so I went to check his post history. To have him suddenly have a change of heart…yeah…don’t think so. It could happen….but Hell could freeze over theoretically too…

GW2 didn’t originally have levels in it’s design. Alpha feedback changed this.

GW2 also originally didn’t have hearts either. Alpha feedback changed that too..

So you tell me…who wants the arbitrary numbers (ie levels) and road signs (ie hearts)? Maybe you or I don’t care, but the majority obviously seem to.

“Omg its too hard, nerf it”

Its not actually hard, just that 1 party worth of trolls(out of 80-100) can guarantee it fails. Even just afkers can scale it up and pretty much force a fail.

Thats poor design, or rather a design that uses players inability to just chit-chat for 90mins and spring to action at the sound of a baritone hylek.

Tequatl should have had a clearly defined triggering pre-event and when it starts all afk timers reset to a 1 minute kick countdown. They also need to do something about not being able to identify between downed or dead players in the water.

Tequatl was the first dragon I fought in this game, its too bad they removed him.

Now see, some of that is decent constructive feedback. That is helpful.

I just chuckle at the people whining it’s too hard. With coordination, you’re right it’s not ‘hard.’ I do think it should require fewer players, so that you are a little more likely to succeed (which helps with the trolling issue).

Lol so we should just sit back, shut up, and watch ANet fail for a few years because they want to be different. I’ll be here waiting to see when they get it right if I haven’t died by old age.

Calling people sheep is offensive btw no need to be hostile. And difference/change for the sake of difference/change is not exactly good, in fact I believe it to be very bad. Change can be sometimes good but only if it comes with substantial benefits.

I didn’t say not to offer constructive feedback. You can help steer the ship, help them to make fun content, but you have to let go of the box. You have to look at it from their perspective. They want to be different. However, you don’t want them to be. Look at so many of the comments… they aren’t helpful, they aren’t constructive, they aren’t condusive to helping anet in any way except to point out how rigid players are in their ‘it must be this way or we dont like it’ mentality. Which is the entire mentality they are trying to overcome. GW1 wasn’t ‘traditional’ either.

Considering the mindset of most players, ‘sheep’ is an apt analogy. I’m not innocent. I’ve been a mindless sheep, following along docilely with the rest of the herd, conforming to how I was ‘programmed’ to accept certain things. It’s hard to break out of it; sometimes so much so that you have to practically slap someone in the face to make them see it.

Right, change for the sake of change is not necessarily good. However, the only constant is change. GW2 has ‘traditional’ things in it, it is not wholly a different animal than other MMOs. It tweaks some things, but base concept is the same as other games. It really has not strayed so far from tradition that it’s as bad kitten many complain about. So you don’t like the open world ‘raid’ like boss, there are a lot of people that do. They like not having to be locked into a group to do it. They can just jump in. Dungeons are pretty much the same as in other games…that’s pretty standard. The lack of “true trinity” and no true “party leader” is the only real difference for those. We could go back and forth on the various aspects…some good, some not so good. Some will change with time, some will get better. GW2 is still an infant, we have to have some patience.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I tried it a couple of dozen times on a couple of different servers and in overflow and was never fortunate enough to find myself in a situation where the stars aligned correctly for victory to be obtained. But, since Teq wasn’t part of what I normally did in game before, it isn’t personally going to affect me one way or the other.

That being said, I think for it to realistically remain in the open world, the event does need to scale. Mininum of 50 players, maybe, with its health being reduced proportionally to the number of players involved in the event. Removing it and placing it in an instance will do exactly what was mentioned above — a percentage of the population will be up in arms that they don’t have access to the event because they can’t organize the required number of players.

I can agree with scaling. Honestly, I think setting the min num of players to 80 was a bit naive of Anet, but I understand what they were trying for. At this point, only [large] coordinated guilds will really be able to kill him (not necessarily a bad thing), but it sort of sucks for everyone else. I say chop it down to 25 myself, but we’ll see how/if they tweak him as time passes.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

There is a new jumping puzzle in G. Fields
We are expecting 3 additional fractals maps between now and the end of the year
One TA path has been completely overhauled in this last update
Scarlet was introduced, and her invasions happen sporadically throughout the day
Tequatl got an overhaul as well, making him more difficult and setting a timer to defeat him
All meta bosses now have timers, and most got hp bumps until they can get their “Tequatl” overhauls as well
Champs now drop “loot bags” to make them more desirable to kill. As such, you can now find farming trains in Queensdale and Frostforge if you are so inclined
Halloween will be back at the end of the month
Weapons crafting has been boosted to 500 to accommodate ascended crafting
I think all of the previous ‘limited time’ weapons skins are now available via a trader in LA, they require black lion tickets to acquire, which can be a pain, but can be done. Most of them are also tradable now, so you can find them on the TP.
WvW has “weapons” trait lines you can build

There’s a few more I think, but that’s just what popped to mind for me. (not generally a pvper, so most of my attention is pve oriented)

Was fractals in 10 months ago or is that new to the op?

Fractals came in…in Nov? When they announced the first ascended junk (still anoyed at you anet). But if the OP has been gone 10 months, he left Dec/Jan time period.. so should think that he’d be aware of fractals… Still, just guessing

Anet simply tried giving people what they asked for, in a non traditional method, but it’s not good enough.

Exactly, they are literally obsessed with being different to the point they enjoy alienating players and seriously who thought it was a good idea to depend on 80 players open world to do a raid boss battle? ….

Pretty sure I wouldn’t be mad if they put in an instanced raid, that’s a win in my book.

Then I could do content with my guild and not rely on outside sources for success

There is nothing wrong with being different. The issue is that players are SHEEP! We are afraid of change. Don’t be sheep!

This is not WoW! Yet that’s what so many seem to want it to be. “We want mounts!” “We want pve dueling” “We want instanced raids” “We want more dungeons” “We want gear grind” “We want armor rating and inspect” The list goes on and on….

There are so many other games that do these, go play them! GW2 wants to be something different, and I applaud that. Are they going to get it right the first time necessarily? Hell no, but that’s part of growing pains! Let them grow, let them explore. If you don’t like what they are doing right now take a break, come back in 6 months and check out where the game is at. Still not to your taste? Well, it happens. Not every game can suit every player.

“Karma is useless”

“Karma is too easy to get”

I’ve heard sentiments like these for months. That is why we got Karma nerfed. Now it’s not flowing like water, and people suddenly have issues?

Only 10 people play this game and they all were complaining about having nothing to do with karma, right? There couldn’t possibly be players that have not played this game since launch or only play a few hours a week and don’t have millions of karma to spend on nothing.

I have over 5 million karma, never complained that there was nothing to spend karma on, and think that the nerf was over the top and a step backward, especially for new people. You don’t take things away…you give people more things to use the currency on.

I have close to a million myself, and never complained either. I’m with you, I think the nerf was a bit rough; however, obviously we weren’t vocal enough when combating the voices that cried it was useless. Hell, I have a long post in another thread going through how karma isn’t useless, but we weren’t the ones they listened to, we weren’t loud enough apparently.

I’ve even directly asked people complaining that karma has no use for suggestions. What did they want to see added to spend it on. They response? “Its useless” and then tada, it got nerfed. We reap what we sow, maybe not you and me specifically, but hey we get boned too.

The players hurt themselves. Anet simply tried giving people what they asked for, in a non traditional method, but it’s not good enough.

Honestly, nothing they do is good enough for so many. They could have left Tequatl, and people would have gone on complaining the world bosses aren’t “epic.” They could have made instance raid content, then people would have complained that they were being locked out, that it wasn’t designed right, that it’s not ‘wow’, that they cant find enough people to do it with.

Yes, I’ve actually seen several “shatterer” type dragons in the sky before. Especially in the whisper’s ogre story mission. I didn’t think anything of it honestly. LanfearShadowflame.3189

I took the “everything we loved from GW1” with a very large grain of salt. Why? Because it’s completely subjective. Who is “we” in that statement? You? Me? The anet devs?

I’m leaning more towards the devs, and admittedly there are GW1 things in GW2. However, everything I loved necessarily isn’t in the game. For example, I love[d] playing with 7 heroes when we finally got that option. I could give a rat’s kitten less about dealing with pugs. Yet on the flip side, I know people that absolutely hated heroes, and preferring to pug pretty much everything. Additionally there are things I don’t like, but others did, which made it in. Get my point?

Things like build templates, armor templates, hell even Cantha, were not there at the launch of GW1. Remember it took years for a lot of things to make it into the game. You’re not comparing apples to applies if you are comparing the complete line of GW1 to GW2. GW2 is in it’s “Prophecies” stage, give it time to grow. It’s a new platform, new technologies. What they figured out how to do may not be doable in the same way with the new code. This is an issue with programming (anyone ever tried upgrading a VB6 project to a VB.net project for example? Its a freaking nightmare), so we need to give them time and have patience. GW2 will evolve over time, but it’s not 9 years old. It’s still just a baby, just like GW1 once was.

Birthday gifts, ok that was simply poorly planned on their part. However, we don’t know how much more influence NCSoft has in GW2 vs GW1. It’s obvious that NCSoft has more control over the store in this game than in the last. They hired a freaking monatizer before launch for crying out loud. I am hoping next year they handle it a little better.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

If you don’t mind a guild that isn’t on your home server, Shadow Sworn Warriors is a casual, laid back guild on Anvil Rock. Mostly nights and weekends type players (we have jobs, and school, and families too, we completely understand lol).

We’re mainly pve oriented, have a few dungeoners currently. Still very small (like 10 people now), but growing, slowly. Take a look at our recruitment post under guild recruitment here on the forums, see if we sound good to you. If so, drop me a line with any questions or concerns, and we can go from there. And if we don’t, that’s ok too. We’re an acquired taste, lol.

Hey guys, Shadow Sworn Warriors is a casual guild on Anvil Rock. Real small, mostly nights and weekends, working on building up our roster though if you’re interested. We have a few dungeoners in the group already (and I’m sure they’d be thrilled to have a few more so they wouldn’t need to pug lol). Check us out on the recruitment forum, see if we sound like a fit. Then if so, give me a holler with any questions or concerns and we can go from there.

SSW (Shadow Sworn Warriors) is small and casual. Generally nights and weekends type players (eastern time is when I’m on). We have a post in the recruitment forum if you want to look us over and see if we sound like a fit, or you can message me with any questions you have. We’re definitely an acquired taste.

Most definitely welcome to GW2. My advice on looking for a guild…. interview them, not the other way around. Your guild is ‘your home’ in a sense, and you should be happy and content with those you surround yourself with. You dictate what you desire, and find what fits, don’t let the guild leaders dictate what you should or should not like/do/enjoy.

I would offer SSW, but I’m not sure we would meet your needs. Maybe after we grow some (although gotta start somewhere I guess) I plan on having diversity in my members (WvW, world bosses, etc) but we aren’t there yet. I have a couple that enjoy doing the normal dungeons, don’t think anyone is real fractal heavy though. And I’ll do WvW on occasion, but generally we’re primarily pve.

Although, if you’re ambitious and want to grow a WvW group, I’d be more than happy to offer you place to do so.

Anvil Rock could use some dedicated WvWers. They all seem to run away from the challenge of actually making something out of our community. We’re definitely not a top tier server, haha.

Are expansion needed?

LanfearShadowflame.3189

An expansion would offer permanent content added.

Living Story offers the old marketing scam of “play it NOW or miss it entirely”.

The content is not the same.

Nothing short sighted there. Which of those can you go back and play? Which of those can you explore in your own timeframe? Which of those still offer rewards on an on-going basis?

LS is supposed to make the world seem alive. It’s not perfect in the least, but some of it has to be temporary to achieve the desired result. Did they focus too heavily on at at the beginning, yes. That was their short sightedness, but they listened, and we are getting more permanent, and impacting things left behind. However, people aren’t even willing to acknowledge these changes, which is their shortsightedness because some of those changes are kinda nifty. Although, again, not all content is for everyone, so maybe there isn’t anything you like yet… Dunno

LS can offer us the same things an expansion could offer us, it does not have to be temporary or small. They can give us new maps (Southsun, Labirynthian), they can change maps some (new jump puzzle and poi in G. Fields), they can add more dynamic events including metas (Tequatl overhaul, Karka queen meta, Scarlet’s invasions), they can give us challenges to keep us on our toes (Liadre or however you spell it). It can give you the permanent features you desire in an expansion, they just took the wrong approach at it’s birth. They are correcting the course, just have patients.

I’m not against a typical box expansion though, as I said. I think they should do a combination of the two, but it just takes time. LS can lead up to our expansion, it can give us world events happening around the globe at various times, while the expansion gives us a sizable “personal” story chunk to continue.

What GW1 Features would you like in GW2?

I think its easier to go the other way.

Things GW1 can take from GW2:
The graphics.
Z axis.
….
….
….
Yea that’s it.

Am I the only one who reinstalled Guild Wars 1 cause of the disappointment Guild Wars 2 is? If not, you can contact me there as Vael Strongbow (restarted completely)!

Some of us never uninstalled it…

Let’s see….

Heroes (for dungeons)
Ranger pet ai
Guild Halls (these are coming eventually anyway)
Certain GW1 armors, but not going to flesh out that list…it’s a long one
Fow, UW (revamped)
FA, JQ (although, based on lore, not quite sure how these would work, but maybe something like them)

snort “Play the game” is apparently blasphemy for most people. They just want to log in, spend 30 min or less on the daily, and have everything else handed to them on a [silver] platter. Apparently I’m doing something wrong…

You guys are not comparing LS and expansions properly.

If Anet came out with an expansion right now instead of LS, we would have had all the LS content up to now.

When you guys think of expansions, I bet you’re thinking of new classes, maps and a lot of content.

Well what if it takes 2 years of work for Anet to come out with that kind of expansion? What if we had 2 years of Living Story to gradually push this kind of content.

Living Story hasn’t done anything like that yet because they’re working on it.

If I had to choose between the two, 100% of the time I would choose Living Story. Again, it’s about accessing content all at once or having content stream in.

What do you think keeps players more engaged and playing the game? Having several months, maybe years inbetween expansions? Or having biweekly mini releases that keep players involved in the game and interested every 2 weeks?

I think most of their issue is that when they think of LS, their brain screams “temporary”, which was a big issue with LS. We are getting more perm content now, and we’ve been told to expect more of it to come, but a lot of people are just too jaded to acknowledge it, or believe it. Can’t really blame them too much though, neither side is innocent in its short sightedness.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I think we need a little of both, honestly. Living Story is the “world’s” story, which could be used to lead up and in to the start of an expansion, which would be more of “our” story. That’s how I think it should be done, but that’s just my 2 cents.

Edit: Of course, I also feel we should have more going on concurrently for living story as well (Meatoberfest and Halloween festivities for example), but you all think I’m nuts. It would make sense though, I mean just because event “A” is happening in the world, doesn’t mean everything else is going to stop.

Yeah but most likely they can’t add Cantha, one of the things NCsoft is holding them back on. They even had to remove the Canthan district in Divinity’s Reach.

That was then, this is now. Things change and shift behind the scenes all the time.
