I didn’t say it wouldn’t be doable. You just wont have 100s of players trying to do it all at once. Sheesh. This is typical player action for patching in any game. Everyone flocks to the new stuff.
Give it 48 hours, It’ll lighten up out there.
OMG! yes its a must have staff, ill definitely pay for it too
I second this!
Some of us suggested the theory that Scarlet was actually being controlled by the jungle dragon, waaaaay back when her short story was released (during CC).
Considering what she saw in her vision, her madness after the fact, her new powers, and her actions, it could coincide with an elder dragon.
I think I like the after, Failth. It looks like they opened up the dyable areas a little bit and added some better shading.
Left side is before, right is after. They added a dye slot to the legs and they look better now after the fix, but 1 dye slot was removed from the chest and boots as well I think
Yeah, it’s the right side that I like.

Gah I’m stuck at work for 2 more hours! (then an hour drive home and a trip to the vet) This bites.
theres a preview on the main news page: https://d3b4yo2b5lbfy.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/050bb01-new-armor.jpg
I might get the light set, most of it looks decent on male light sylvari. That mask is just silly though, I wish we had more ornate light helms(not hoods) that dont cover the face like TA’s or sylvari cultural crown(t1 or 2 i forget which).
Yeah, but I can’t fiddle with them and see how they look on ‘my’ chars.
sniffle sometimes having a life bites. lol
do any of you remember the threads about 5 months back complaining when we had NO scraps?
scraps were introduced and people were sated for the most part.
now the same round of complaining when we do have scraps.
i don’t know people anymore.
I remember the threads, and I’m not unhappy about the scraps. I wish they were trade-able, but that’ s neither here nor there. I’m actually very pleased that its one currency for the skins, and that we can still get skins after the LS is done, they just cost more in terms of tickets.
Gah I’m stuck at work for 2 more hours! (then an hour drive home and a trip to the vet) This bites.
I normally just use the pvp locker for mixing and matching. They have most of the pve sets in it. Have these been added there? Could try that way…
I don’t have an issue with them looking different necessarily.
Although I think most of the female versions are hideous. They might do ok mix and match, but as whole sets … shudder
I know other people will like them though.
To each their own.
I think they should be trade-able personally. Not the finished ticket, but the scraps.
Edit: But then again, I think we should have more options for obtaining them too. Like…as part of map completion or something. We can get chests and keys, why not scraps too.
Well, way back at launch (and eve since) people said they wanted more armors and that they’d be willing to buy them from the gemstore if they would simply give us more armors.
We should be more careful what we wish for.
That’s reallly screwy. I’ve gotten a scrap out of every chest I’ve opened in the last month. Only like 5, but still… wow
I look forward to trying it. Still rolling from the alliance name though. Sometimes some things are just too simple.
Oooo new armor in the store. To Dulfy I go to see if she has pics!
*Edit – grumble nope not yet

When you put someone on ignore/block, you should not
-see their chat in any channel
-see any of their emotes
They should not be able to
-see when you’re online
-see what map you’re in
Teams are trickier (because anyone can invite).
Should they not be allowed to team with a group you’re in (say through lfg) if their buddy joins that group?
Would shutting off their chat in team be sufficient? What if they actually post something helpful/important to what you’re doing?
GW1 Ignore functionality:
The ignore list allows you to identify players from whom you do not wish to hear. Adding a person to your ignore list blocks all messages from that person, and prevents his/her text from appearing in your chat windows. No status will be displayed for these accounts, and no other character names will be displayed. The ignore list can hold a maximum of 10 names and uses white font.
You appear to ignored players as if you are offline.
^That would work for me.
Logan: This is getting intense. We need warp speed. What do you think, Rytlock?
Rytlock: kitten it, Logan, I’m a Charr, not an Asuran!
Logan: Zojja!
Zojja: I just can’t do it, Logan … I don’t have the power!Great….. now Star Trek is ruined forever…..
LOL, I didn’t go far enough to do that … I would have needed to include Caithe as Uhura and Eir as Chekov … at a loss, though, who should do Sulu … Scarlet?
OMG……. stoooooop! The horror!

While I am not against the idea behind phasing, it does present some interesting issues.
One is that it further fractures the player base, which isn’t always a bad thing, but it can be taken too far.
Another is that it could lead to issues with people playing together, how do you ‘unphase’ a character to go back to play with someone that hasn’t necessarily made it that far? In WoW (at least when I played) there wasn’t an option for this. You had to wait for the person to catch up, which pretty much sucked.
There are also instancing glitches, which is something else I experienced with WoWs phasing. Even though my husband and I played our characters together, were on the same quests, etc, the game might not necessarily phase us together. One gets too far away, and now they are no longer in the same phase. There were times where I could catch up (he flew faster), and be right on top of him, but still not see him because we were out of phase. It was very frustrating.
This is what we know:
Precursor crafting will be done
It is presently ‘at high risk’ for meeting its deadline, along with the new legendary item
Please note that item in singular, not plural. Colin clarified at PAX that we would see only a single new legendary slot this year and that it would be of trinket type.
This is all we know.
They still have 2 months with which to work; however in both the blog and Colin’s post he points out that (basically) unforeseen circumstances could lead to this being delayed in its release. Dates are not set in stone. This is not all that uncommon in development. You budget a certain amount of time for something, but it ends up taking longer due to testing, due to additional code structure, due to other projects running over their allotted time, etc. I know we are impatient, but let them take the time they need to get it done, and to get it done right.
It makes sense that someone else should crop up while most would be distracted by the holiday. That’s actually typical plot for most stories.
Additionally, in what world do ‘events’ only happen one at a time? Things need to overlap, we need to actually have multiple events happening at once in order to achieve a ‘living’ world.
Sorry, but this deserves it’s own thread. So it’s been said that there’s “probability of a new race or profession is high and so are the currently unreachable lands of the original Guild Wars”.
My speculation is quaggan playable race. As for profession, pure Ritualist would be nice to see. I miss my Spirit Spammer builds that would make an unending mini army of ranged attackers.
link to the statement?
Probably doesn’t have one.
Colin has said in the last few months that we will see new playable races. Gave no time table, only that we would.
He also said that if they did a new profession it would like be a heavy and it’s the furthest thing down on their list basically.
(PAX and Twitch interviews)
I think if I had to throw my vote in for what they pick as the new race, I’d go with Largos as well, although I would be ok with Tengu or Kodan as well. Largos would potentially give their underwater play a bit more emphasis, and open the world a bit further.
I don’t think skritt or quaggan will ever be playable races though. They could prove me wrong, but I think I’d prefer if they remained npc only.
Just my 2 cents.
So, since I’m not “PC” enough for this thread apparently, I’ll simply agree that yes, the ignore feature should block everything. All chat channels, all emotes, the person should not be able to see when you’re online, nor should they be able to see what map you’re in.
I have a honest question… Why do so many people play games for rewards rather then well for the game? Several people have said in this thread that they like dynamic events (or implied they like them) but said they’re not going to play them until their reward increases.
Is it better to play an hour of content you dont enjoy so much that rewards you 5 gold or an hour of content that you really love playing but that rewards you 1 gold?
I play the game for the story honestly. For the lore, for the cliff hangers where I can theorize what’s around the next corner. And of course, for the exploration itself…after all the world is beautiful. This is what drew me to gw1, and what drew me to gw2.
Awww bummer….
Ah well, kitten happens…
It can be clarified as having been spoke by God Above for all anyone cares… point is they should have noticed its a worthy design goal they fell short of in the other 99% of the game outside the Personal Story.
And frankly, given the way the Personal Story paths taper down until all roads lead to Trahearn, “everyone around you is doing the same things you are doing” is pretty much the definition of the personal story beyond level 40.
There is really only so much a game designer can do to make a character feel like the hero. Would you have preferred a more God of War style, where you are a predefined character and have no say in anything except which attribute you fine tune on your weapons?
No matter what game you play, someone else is doing the exact same thing you are doing at some point. The difference lies in whether you ‘feel’ like the hero when you are doing it. I know many don’t after they get to the junction with Trahearne, but they neglect to remember that not all heroes are necessarily center stage.
Togo and Kormir stole center stage from us in GW1, but people still loved those story lines, they still loved beating Shiro and Abaddon, still felt like the hero for doing it. What we get though? Little bit of cheering, that only lasted until we zoned back into the regular world. Togo got a statue, Kormis became a goddess, we got cheering….woooo hooo. I still love those games though, still play, still feel like a hero and it doesn’t bother me that I know thousands of other players have done the exact same thing (and have the titles to prove it).
There is no true ‘unique’ in gaming, there can’t be unless you’re the one designing it and the only one playing it.
That’s 3pm EST correct?
yup
if you think they are bots, report them. the feature exists within the game for exactly that purpose.
btw, even real people dont wsper back sometimes when they don’t know you or dont want to be bothered.
My husband and I are more option B. We come on, do our thing. Close to the end of the night if we’ll check what we have done on them. If they are close to done, we’ll focus on finishing them off (if it’s not something that we have to go insanely out of the way to do), otherwise we just say to kitten with it and carry on.
Generally speaking we don’t go out of our way to worry about dailies or monthlies.
I don’t find leveling alts boring, I’m up to 9 characters now. 3 are maxed, the other 6 range across the board from 20 to 60 in their levels.
Most of my leveling is done through map completion, with a little bit of crafting along the way. I don’t do any of the personal story until I’m between 60 and 65. Then I do only personal story missions, which finishes leveling me those last 15 – 20 levels relatively quickly.
I try to keep different characters in different areas of the world, this way the map completion stays a little more fresh. I haven’t gotten to the point where anything is stale yet, probably due to how I rotate through my playing.
Two handed battle axe? Yes plz!
252k karma / set (which isn’t all the much really)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Exotic_karma_armor
Edit: Personally, I prefer to select and set my armor goals shortly after the birth of my character so I know what to work towards on my way to 80. I find it makes for less grind after the fact.
1) Cinematics are expensive and time consuming, and that’s just the animation. Adding voice acting makes it more expensive yet. While I enjoy cinematics myself, I can understand them not being able to do a bunch of them all the time. We have gotten more of these, but I don’t expect them to do one for everything like you’re suggesting. There are other ways of presenting us information that are just as decent. I found the conversations with Tassi’s golem enjoyable (I bet most people didn’t talk to it more than once, maybe twice). I enjoyed listened to Tassi ramble too, when I was in the Halloween instances, but again, take into consideration how much work goes into that voice over acting. Making a game isn’t any less expensive than say, making an animated movie. There is only so much money in the budget.
2) I wouldn’t mind more DE’s, and along with them more cute and funny open world npc dialog. I’m still coming across random npc conversations that make me pause to listen, or fall out of my chair laughing. Things I missed because I didn’t really take my time in the area, I just sort of blazed through it.
I agree that DE’s could use better rewards. Hopefully this is coming. 15 minutes of DEs should be as rewarding as say, 15 minutes of champ farming. This way people have more options in what they would like to do, without feeling like they are missing out.
3) I don’t want DE’s in racial capitol cities. Racial cities are the only ‘truly safe’ place you can park a character and walk away without having to worry if some event is going to roll through and kill you while you use the bathroom or grab some food. While it’s true that some DE’s would fit in the city environment, you sacrifice that safety to do so.
That said, I also enjoy the bi-weekly living story updates. I don’t mind talking to the npcs, listening to them chatter, and exploring a bit to get some of the lore being presented. A lot of people don’t do this, and as such miss out on a lot and then go on to complain that there is no story, or that the pieces don’t mesh. Some of the lore and backstory could be presented in a more forthright manner, with this I don’t disagree. The little stories featured on the website also need to be presented in game, and we’ve had 2 or 3 devs tell us they are working on this (recently, like in the Halloween threads). Hopefully when they get these things implemented in, there will be fewer people griping there is no story, when there actually is. Sadly, they’ve never been the best at presenting their story, but hopefully with time this will get better.
I guess I missed the Official Manifesto Explanation video then.
Good thing they made it known for everyone who didn’t spend time researching every bit of information posted on unofficial sites.
It wasn’t a video. It was one of the big interviews right after the manifesto came out. Why does information only exist if its in video form?
I’ve ran with the QD champ train a few times now, and yes sometimes people kill the champs out of order. I see no issue with that. I’ve shouted down the brats that tried jumping on the people for doing it too. People have the right to play how they choose to play, and if they are exploring QD and come across a champ, they have the right to kill if they can. Equally, if someone feels like trolling the train b/c most of the people in it are kittenholes, that makes me laugh too. I know a couple of my guild mates have gone and done that during ‘prime time’ just to kitten with the train. That’s almost as much fun to watch as a ‘bait the troll’ session in LA. chuckle
To each their own, everyone enjoys playing a little bit differently.
DEs are just renamed quests with bad rewards.
“As a structure, the MMO has lost the ability to make the player feel like a hero. Everybody around you is doing the same thing you are doing. The boss you just killed respawns ten minutes later. It doesn’t care that I’m there.”
This quote by Ree was clarified as referring to the personal story, not the open world.
I’m roman number illiterate.
You’re probably joking, but I feel like writing this out anyway because a few people seem to have said the same thing.
I = 1
V = 5
X = 10
I before V or X = subrtract
I after V or X = addI – 1
II – 2
III – 3
IV – 4
V – 5
VI – 6
VII – 7
VIII – 8
IX – 9
X – 10
XI – 11
XII – 12You’re welcome.
Most people find this a more interesting way to write numbers. Its not supposed to be hard, just… Fancier?
I hope he’s joking, because if he’s not then my 12 yr old son is well ahead of him. He can read and write roman numerals without issue (comes in handy for making outlines for essays and taking notes)
picks herself up off the floor
It really hurts to laugh this hard. This thread ranks right up there with “I got killed by a guardian that wasn’t attacking me”
I need popcorn, must go find popcorn.
incorrect. roman numerals are numbers not icons.
Technically, because of the way they are done, they do qualify as ‘icons’
icon noun \??-?kän\
computers : a small picture on a computer screen that represents a program or function
It does not say that the icon has to be an image or that it has to match what it’s representing. only that it is a small graphic used to represent it. Their icons are hexagonal shields with a numeral, very simple. There is nothing that says they have to use an actual image.
Well wait: I didn’t mean hardcore <-> casual in a means of “playing a lot”. But I’m going to have to say that people with skill (<-> without skill) won’t have a problem with mindless zerging. I’m aware that a lot of “hardcore” both as “casual” players are zerging and doing other mindless activities…
The distinction I tried to make was maybe one more between players dedicated to ‘organised forms of the game that require you to use your mind’ (in that way more hardcore) and players who do not do this (more casual, more ‘newb level’, easymode, facerolling the keyboard).
I have a great respect for people in PvE who are running arah and high level fractals, because those people are actually doing something that requires some skill and team work. Similarly small scale WvW players need to have some degree of skill.
I would call those hardcore, opposite to the champion zergs (in PvE) and the blobs (in WvW), those last are casual.Point being: those last, ruin the game for the more serious people, by farming gold and ‘showing’ how good they are by running around with prestige items like legendaries. It saddens me to see that.
Everyone plays differently. I think we really need to stop labeling groups and trying to classify people one way or another. People end up getting offended and generalities really aren’t that helpful. Not to mention, everyone sort of interprets what one means by a certain label a little bit differently.
Anyway, let people play they way they want to play. If they want to zerg in wvw, let them. Conversely if they want to play the roamer and hassle the enemy lines from the flanks, let them do that too. Then, somewhere in the middle, there is the person that does ‘more serious’ content more often than not, such as small group tactical warfare, but still enjoys taking a break and running the hamster wheel on occasion too. Running in the zerg or not in the zerg does not necessarily define ‘hardcore’ or ‘casual.’ neither does it define whether the player is skilled or unskilled. All it says is at that moment they are enjoying what they chose to do.
For some people, farming is their enjoyment, and there isn’t anything wrong with that. For other people, they enjoy playing that seriously annoying perma-stealth thief that pops up and ganks you in wvw. I don’t like the thief. To me, he ruins my enjoyment and my game play, should I have his play style removed simply because it doesn’t mesh with my wants? No, that wouldn’t be right or fair. Let bygones be bygones. You don’t have to play with them unless you choose to. There are plenty of other options out there for things to do.
I’ve deduced it from the fact that prestige armor is rare, and full rare is the tipping point where you go from getting scraped by mobs in Orr to mowing them down.
So basically you pull that out.
No, it’s an educated guess based on the relative strength of 80 zones and base 80 rewards.
I mean the last PS mission gives you a rare for a reward, all of the faction skins are rare, the cultural armor is rare.
What do you think the endgame content is balanced around baseline? Exotics?
He does have a point.
In my opinion, the additional power creep on exotics tends to make things a tad too easy. Especially when you start goinf back to lower level zones. I 2 shot things in rares, exotics make me cry….
And we’re going to ignore the following quote from July 2013:
Colin Johanson:(snip)
Your character will be able to grow and change for years to come without invalidating everything you’ve earned so far.So, what was this thread about again?
The fact that what they said will happen and what is happening do not match? Because ascended weapons (and armor, when it gets in) do mean invalidating what i have earned so far (at least as far as having a BiS is concerned).
Also, see that again he said about not introducing new tiers every 3-6 months. I can believe that – after all ascended tier introduction is staggered for almost a whole year already (and will be slightly over a year when it is fully released). So, no, not every 3-6 months. Every 1-2 years however? Now, that is quite likely.
And they can always increase the level cap from time to time, to introduce a healthy variance.
Colin did state at PAX that they are happy with the gear tiers that they have now, that they do not foresee the need for another tier anytime in the near future, and that we blew them out of the water with how quickly we aquired exotics. They have a ‘time goal’ for how long it should take someone to achieve BiS gear, which makes sense all games function in such manner. They felt exotics were too easy, so they gave us ascended. I’m sure part of that decision was influenced by the out cry for more grind at the time as well, so we’re partly to blame.
As I’ve pointed out in another thread, rare to exotic is also VP, but very few had any type of issue with that, and exotics required at least some grind to obtain them as well. Had the game launched with ascended at the final stepping stone to legendaries, I honestly feel that we wouldn’t have the outcry we have currently. People would have accepted it (for the most part) and started working toward it at the birth of their characters, rather than ‘after’ they were done.
You must not have played World of Warcraft
shudder
I never got this bad with all the mods and stuff for WoW, but I’ve seen worse than that. It still hurts to look at though.
Ill take the partical effects from the image in the post below yours any day first. (Although I have no issue seeing the boss in that screenie….)
here take a look.
the icon tells me its “Death from Above” right away.
the roman numeral “I” just tells me “I” and that’s it.
icons are better.
fact.
Death from above? I thought that might have been your idea for the trait that mitigated falling damage. It wasn’t any more clear to me than a numeral is for you.
Edit: Didn’t know ‘Death from Above’ was the wars falling skill. Don’t play a war, so see, not anymore helpful to just have the name either really.
As a casual players myself (that rarely retraits), I don’t have too much of an issue remember which traits I use by their numerals. Icons wouldn’t necessarily make it any easier.
Also, Anet uses the skill/trait textual names to be clear in their patch notes. Skills have icons, but they don’t use those either. They always use text, its just easier.
Edit: I know I did this once before…. So I’ll do it again. lol. So, didn’t realize ‘Death from Above’ is the war falling dmg skill. So obviously just using the names instead isn’t very helpful either.
The thing with the names beside the numbers is something we could talk about, but not hundreds of fancy colorful pictures destroying a very well designed UI.
But there are other things that need polish and love first
Agreed. I wouldn’t mind the names w/ the icons. They might have to do some work with the UI, and then add some additional coding to facilitate displaying the name. Depending on how the code is done currently, it could be a lot of work, it could be a little bit, there are a lot of unknowns here.
We’re fighting with something similar where I work. You’d think the front end change would be minor, and even the ui dev says it should be, but because of coding restrictions and how things have to be structured to meet our client’s standards, let’s just say its not.

You’re welcome to join us – Shadow Sworn Warriors. We’re on Anvil Rock. Very casual, very laid back. No demands on when you play. We’re sort of an acquired taste though. Feel free to check out my recruitment ad here
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/recruitment/SSW-Shadow-Sworn-Warriors-NA-AR
If you’re interested or have questions, just holler via PM or in game.
It sounds like the people you’ve opted to play with simply suck, OP. Play what you like, there are plenty of people that will accept you for however you want to play.
Thief is well loved in WvW.
[Spirit] Rangers are ran commonly in sPvP
Dungeons can be done by anyone, just avoid the narrow minded haters.
My guild is a mixed bag. I have a few under 18, a few in their 20s, and then a few 30 and over (myself included here). I don’t really care how old someone is, it’s more does their personality mesh with the atmosphere we’re developing. In fact, had one of the younger members not asked how old everyone was, I wouldn’t know to have posted it here. chuckle
