The people I play with are all in instances anyway, if we were all in the same instance it would actually bring us together not drive us apart. The current dungeons are keeping us apart in smaller groups.
Valid, but some people prefer the smaller group instances, while others prefer larger group instances. Some prefer open world. It is much easier to find 5 people for an instance than it is to find 20+, even in large guilds.
Open world raids like Teq… Currently instead of waiting for people to join to do it (which is easy to get the people, there are whole guilds dedicated to doing this) you have to wait for a 2 hour timer. If it was instanced you could do it immediately.
Sure, you could do it immediately, and to slow you down Anet would then institute lock outs like WoW. This way it wasn’t done too often, nor did it become too rewarding.
Nothing wrong with being different.
Not everything always works out as planned ozma. Their blog post was simply a list of goals they had wanted to achieve by the end of the year. Some of it will work out, some of it won’t. Have you never set a goal or had what seemed like a realistic deadline, then something happened and you simple were not able to meet it as originally planned?
That’s not hype, it a statement of intent. A “we intend to do x” and we “intend to do it by;” however like all things in life it doesn’t always pan out. Especially in programming.
(=character) to (=account)
Yep that work was totally worth a 25% price increase across the board.
Granted if I were in their shoes, I’d do the same thing since it’s quick, easy, more profitable, and I’d get customers praising me let alone defending me. It’s a no brainer.
From the sounds of other comments, it’s free to upgrade tools you’ve already purchased… essentially grandfathering them in. Future tools will have a soulbound and an account bound version, with the account bound version being 200 gems more.
This is the impression I’m getting from the notes and what others seem to be saying. I’ll know in a few hours when I finally get home and can log on.
Not going to herald this as a change of heart on Anets part. I suspect they did this because sales tapered off and now they need MOAR MONEY™
I am inclined to believe they did it because it was in high demand by their player base. There has been a loud cry from the community, in game and out, about wanting these account bound.
Understandably, they made the account bound versions slightly more expensive. You get more use out of it than it’s soulbound version, so it should cost more; however not drastically more so as to keep it appealing. Its standard business practice really. Ever bought a cell phone ‘bundle’ because the accessories were slightly cheaper that route? Lots of examples of this practice in every day life, if you take a step back and think about it.
They also listened to the players’ request to see Marjory’s and Kasmeer’s weapon skins directly purchasable. No RNG in the way. Definitely a step in the right direction, imo.
The image for the next release seems to hint at possibly getting a new fractal next patch… At least that’s the whispers I’m hearing…
And the image does sort of put you in mind of fractals…imo
Yep milking it…….1000 gems now is definitely not worth it, since we can buy full sets of tools for next several years for all toons for less. There’s paying for convenience and there’s being gouged for convenience. This is on par with the pet rock.
In terms of real life money → gems
You can buy 1 of each account….which equates to 3000, and simply pass them from character to character while you play….
Or you can buy one of each soulbound….which equates to 2400, and then multiply that for character you want a set on…
If you only have one character ever, the soulbound option does save you gems. However, if you’re like so many that have hollered for account binding these tools, it’s less expensive to get the account bound.
In terms of gold → gems
Yes, gold to gems conversions are outrageous, but some people will do it simply for the convenience. Some people are willing to pay for that convenience. It’s completely personal choice.
It is important to keep in mind that GW1 had almost no end game. Sure there were random arena, underworld and FoW. But those are not great end game by any measure.
In GW1 the end game was starting an alt character. It was so alt friendly that I had 9 characters. Many other players I know had more. It took players hours to plan out their character. They have to pick the skills. They have to set the traits. They had to equip the character and get skins for them. But at the same time, those tasks are fairly easy so no one feels it is a grind at all.
GW2 is not alt friendly at all. That’s the core of the problem. I explained this in great details in this thread here.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/1-Alt-Chars-2-Side-Kick-System
GW2 is the most alt-friendly MMO to ever exist. Seriously. Stop saying it’s not. There are only two things in the entire game that off the top of my head aren’t alt friendly, and that’s fractals and WvW exp.
I agree that I find the game to be very alt friendly, with a few exceptions. No where near as bad as other games I have played… including GW1.
The image does give me the fractal impression, and we’re about due for those I would think…
And how much more is it going to cost me…. to make them account bound instead?
Hey! The sheep insults are my thing! No touchie!
Back on topic, in regards to the Zelda franchise… you very well might be a sheep Xae. It depends on whether you’re a mindless follower or not. Would you completely flip out if they created another Zelda, but it wasn’t completely the same as every other Zelda game out there? If they tried expanding upon the tried and true, rather than walking a narrow well trodden path?
While the phrase ‘if it’s not broke don’t fix it’ is an apt one, we forget that "same ol’ same ol’ " gets very boring. We fall into a rut and then wonder why we can’t find anything enjoyable. We need to sometimes break out of that rut and ‘take the path least taken’ to find something new, something exciting, rather than simply accepting the tried and true and giving it a new paint job. I do applaud Anet for attempting to not necessarily take the path of least resistance when it comes to GW2. They are willing to try new things, expand beyond the ‘comfort zone’ of normal MMOs and run with their ideas. Does it always work out? Nope, they sure get a lot of flack for it, but hey… fortune favors the bold.
If they made Zelda Monster Truck Simulator, yes, I would flip out.
You can try things, but of there’s something there already which works, you may as well give them it first to keep people satisfied then try other things. Its not like the only thing you can work on is raids.
Trying out new things has many consequences. so you need some of the true and tested stuff in there to keep people satisfied.
Going back to Zelda. Looking at the first game compared to Skyward Sword, theres a ton of differences. If you look at how it got there, it wasn’t Nintendo suddenly going ‘dude! we’re gonna change everyyyythingggg!’ (well, they did for Zelda 2 but we all know how well that went), ot was changing small things a bit at a time to find what works whilst keeping the tried and true stuff in there to make sure people don’t bail.
Ok “Zelda Monster Truck Simulator” would be extreme even by my standards. I was thinking something more along the lines from traditional Mario to Mario Kart. Same franchise, totally different… equally enjoyable.
Anet did not toss all of the tried and true out the window. They upgraded some things, but the core ideas are still there:
Quests → Hearts and DE’s.
Dungeons → 5 man just like WoW, but no trinity.
Missions → Personal Story.
They gave us crafting like other games have, but they tweaked it so that gathering isn’t [its] own profession, and we don’t have to fight each other over gathering nodes. They made making multiples of the same thing not take ages, and we can help level our characters with it, but it’s core is still pretty much the same thing you’d find in most other games.
They are striving to do something different. They don’t want to just hand us instanced raids like every other game. They don’t want to do player housing, or guilds, like every other game. (Just to name a couple) Will it be absolutely totally, radically different? Not necessarily. The core, basic ideas will be there. They just want to give it a little “twist” to make it unique, which I like.
Hey! The sheep insults are my thing! No touchie!

Except that the Living Story already does cross over into WvW and PvP, and that those communities react with overwhelming negativity towards it.
This… so much this.
OP, check out the various complaint threads in the living world forum for the current LS. People griping about the spore events in WvW….
If you’re burnt out, which it sounds like you are, then just take a break. The world turns, but you aren’t really being left behind. The game will still be here should you decide you feel refreshed and want to come back. Take a few nights off, go watch that movie you’ve been intending to see, or read the book you’ve been intending to read, but never find time. Your account will still be here when you’re ready.
I can’t disagree with the OP’s call for increasing some materials drop rate. This is something many have called for, and while it’s true there needs to be a balance so things aren’t too easy, the drop rate for some materials is still absolutely terrible. Not talking knee jerk adjustments here, just small tweaks.
I think that’s the only thing I agree with though. As a casual player myself (might get 15 hours of play a week if I’m really pushing it), I have no issue making gold, or building crafting, etc. I don’t mind things taking time to be achieved. Foefire’s Essence is a skin I plan on having, and my goal is to have it within the next year. Just means I buckle down, make a plan for achieving that, and stick to it. Nothing more, nothing less. Generally such goals take me more time than average because I prefer to make it/earn it if I can…rather than just purchasing it off the TP. To me, it means more.
Casual players can achieve the same things “hardcore” players (have I mentioned how much I hate labels?), it just takes a casual player longer because they can’t play in large time chunks, like hardcores generally can. Nothing wrong with that. Of course, a player that can’t buckle down and strive for the goal wouldn’t be any more like to achieve said goal no matter their play type. It requires focus and commitment, which is as it should be.
Yes, there needs to be a measure of balance involved. A cosmetic item should not require so much time as to be completely out of reach for a casual, but also not so easy to get that someone that has lots of time can snag it in just a few play sessions. That’s a very fine line to walk, and as yet I don’t think Anet has found that sweet spot for some things.
-bump-
plus some randomness
I can understand them limiting the vocals to English. This is not uncommon with competitions. It’s not just limited to Anet. This is no different than large, ethnically diverse companies having a policy where (when in a group of coworkers) you need to speak in a language where all present can understand you. This is not rude. It is not intended to be a slight by any means. It is however intended to keep everyone on equal footing, while still giving Anet the ability to judge the contestants accurately.
(edited by Moderator)
Many are in agreement with you. In fact there is a thread for it under suggestions. I recommend going and adding your voice to that as well.
In GW1 they did have pumpkin pie and apple cider drop around the Thanksgiving Holiday. Just as they had 4 leaf clovers drop and Shamrock Ale around St Patty’s day, and they had an actual celebration for Chinese New Year (Canthan New Year). And chocolate bunnies and golden eggs around Easter.
It’s completely their choice which they do and don’t do.
If you’re talking end game as it exists in games like WoW…. 0 / 10 (-10 /10!) .
I have no desire to repeatedly grind a dungeon for a single armor piece, to go repeat it on the next dungeon to get the next armor piece, just to do it again in raids once I have the armor rating to do the raid. This is no less a hamster wheel than the zerg in QD. No different than running CoF1 a dozen times day.
I much prefer just being able to go anywhere, and do anything, without having to worry about gearing up first. All the gear I need, to pretty much anything I want, is readily available.
So much this- you said it better than I did.
I love the freedom of this game- I can do whatever I want, when I want, on whichever character I choose.
I only spoke from experience. It was mind numbing, to say the least. At least in the QD hamster wheel I can kick up some fun conversation, or derail it… depends on my mood.

I think we have a thread like this at least once a month….
“To date the only possibility to acquire this armor in PvE is via the personal storyline (Story Level): Head (73), Shoulder (74), Chest (77) and Legs (78).”
The only thing missing is the gloves and the boots. My thief wears the coat and pants. At least until I can get the krytan top to pair with the pants.
Colin stated at PAX (youtube it) that capes are something they do want to do. However, it’s not as easy as they thought with all the new tech they are using. Since it is something they would like to do, but is not high on their priority list (understandably) there have been people working on the issue in their off time, which I applaud. That takes a commitment to your game, imo, to give up your free time to work on something like that.
There is nothing in the shop that can give you any real advantage over non-cash players. Boosters? Can be gotten from clearing maps in the game. Armor skins? Don’t give an advantage, they are just a nicety. The everlasting tools? Again, a nicety. They are the same grade as ori tools, you just don’t have to keep purchasing new ones.
Buying gems to convert to gold? I suppose…but that’s probably the least cost effective methods of obtaining gold if that’s what you’re after…
Conversely, if you play a lot, you can exchange gold for gems and purchase those things too. I’ve purchases some bank tabs and character slots that way because it wasn’t in my budget to spend the cash to do it.
^
Seriously, I want to know.
Why in the heck is all of this stuff temporary? Replayability is the lifeblood of these kinds of games. Mini-quests and holiday festivals are expected to be temporal, but when the main storyline stops being something you have access to…what the heck is the point? The LS is slowly but surely eclipsing the PS in terms of relevance…and it’s 100% temporary?
I just don’t get it. A “living, breathing world” is great, but at least, at least, make it something you can revisit.
Because they are trying to mimic the living world. To make their world feel alive.
You’re every day life is your main story…. do your events last forever? Do you have a birthday party every day? Do you watch your child being born repeatedly, day after day (I’d feel so sorry for that woman). Conversely would you want to have to relive the planes flying into the twin towers, and then watch those towers fall every day? Since, not all events are necessarily ‘happy’ moments.
We do not live in an unending, never changing loop. We cannot ‘revisit’ our pasts, except in memory. From my understanding, this is the goal ANet is striving for. To create a ‘living’ world, similar to the real world. As such, events will come and go. Some should leave behind significant changes…some should leave behind subtle changes. All should leave some memory with the player.
Have they achieved this goal yet? No, they have lots of work to do.
Are they getting there? Little by little, I feel.
Could we use some type of historian? Sure.
Just as we have books, and videos, etc to help us remember in the real world, I could easily see something similar in the game. Manuscripts written by priory scholars, npcs we could talk to to trigger cut scenes or dialog to fill us in on what’s happened.
That’s ridiculous.
That kind of thinking comes with the GIANT caveat that you have the time to fully do everything. What is this adherence to trying to emulate real-life chronology? You’re supposed to be able to revisit things you like. That’s why these games are so cool…because they aren’t like real-life where if you miss a deadline or get stuck in traffic you’re screwed. Why in the world would anyone want to make a hundred different story events for players to enjoy, but each of them only available for 2 weeks?
And even if you did manage to enjoy all of some temp content, and it was your favorite stuff you’ve ever done in the game…it’s still gone for good in a few days. What in the wide, wide, world of sports were they trying to accomplish with that? The only thing I can think of is bitter sentimentality.
Even so, it’s a game that’s supposed to be entertaining. Some of your favorite movies you’ll watch over and over and over and still get enjoyment out of it. It’s the same with games. If you like certain aspects of the game, you’ll spend most of your time there. What is so hard about having both options: continue advancing the storyline, yet keep a lot of the things you’ve done in-game as an option to revisit…at least for alts…or as a personal instance…or something.
This diehard insistence on temporary content is mind-boggling.
To add: No I wouldn’t want to watch my child being born everyday…in person. But I’d certainly want to watch it on video every now and then to remind myself how joyous that moment was. Even 9/11, I would watch again(and have btw) if only to remind myself of how fragile and precious our freedoms are in America. It’s a good thing to be able to remind yourself of that by revisiting it. Replayability of storyline events in games is essentially the same idea, if on a much more casual scale.
Very simply put, you’re not supposed to do everything. They are trying to do something different. They aren’t trying to be like every other game out there. You don’t like it, that’s fine. You want a ‘living’ world that is not actually living, and that’s ok, but that’s not what they are striving for.
And yes, as I said… a historian or some such in game, to rewatch cut scenes etc. Similarly to how we have books and videos in real life.

casual with 3 80 without completing personal story?
come on, i compeleted mine on my 1st 80, i only have 2 btw..
It’s not that I don’t want, or haven’t been able, to. It’s more I haven’t bothered as yet. I simply enjoy the leveling of my characters. I’ll get around to completing the story at some point, and finding people to do it will just be easier when my guildies get to that point too.
Yes, I know, I’m weird.
*Loot? No…champ farming nerfed to oblivion as well as magic find…no more exotics for you!
*Dungeon running? No unless your a full time zerker, with like minded quick runs. No heroes so you can try on your own
*Armor? Well i suppose if you crafted 500 hours for mats, i guess some call it “fun”
*Weapons…don’t make me laugh
*Personal story? 3 80’s later and haven’t been able to complete it even once!
*World bosses…Tequatil says it all…fail fail fail
*PvP i.e. hotjoins, “we don’t care how good or bad you are…here’s your glory…mmmkay?”
WvW: Sorry if you joined the loser server..someone had to!I’m trying to enjoy this game. It’s not GW1, but still, trying. You just keep making it so casuals cant get ahead in anything…ever. After 3 years of WoW kicking me in the teeth gearwise (pvp & pve), I learnt my lesson. It won’t 3 years here Anet, just saying.
chuckle
I’m a casual player myself and I don’t get your gripes honestly.
-Loot: I don’t run the champ hamster wheels often, but I’ve gotten a few exotics from them. I’ve also gotten some exotics from normal play, as well as from LS stuff. Am I rolling in exotics? No, but I don’t expect to be. I wear rares and can still roll my way thought this game tag teaming with my husband…. so it makes no difference to me.
-Dungeon running: I don’t “run” dungeons. I play through them, take my time and enjoy them. Some of them only take 15-20 minutes, even massacring everything in our path. Others take longer, because we enjoy goofing off… a lot.
-Armor: You must be talking about ascended. Meh, I’ll get it when I get…if I bother. I have a slew of exotics that are massively easy to obtain. As I said though, I play in rares and find the game easy 99.9% of the time, I have no desire to make it easier. There’s no fun in that for me.
-Weapons: Ok, I might sort of see your point here. Maybe. Some weapons do seem outlandish in their obtainability, but I don’t mind setting long term goals to work towards… Maybe that makes me an odd casual.
-Personal Story: I have 3 80s as well, closing on 2 more. I haven’t bothered trying to complete the personal story yet. Not because I don’t want to, but because I’m simply waiting for guildies to get to the point where they need to do it as well. Should make it easier than trying to find PuGs. I do very much miss heroes though.
-World Bosses: Personally , I love what they did to Tequatl. I’ve never been in a winning battle, but I still love it. People wanted a challenge, Anet gave it to them. Two thumbs WAY up from me.
PvP hot joins: … chuckle If you’re a casual…what precisely is your issue? You don’t have the time to devote to becoming some uber-tastic pvper. You play to enjoy, good bad or otherwise.
WvW: My server is at the bottom of the ranking, and I have no issue with that. We lose every match up, and have since…basically forever. As long as I’m enjoying myself, I really don’t care much. My server isn’t really WvW centric…
I have no issue accessing that account…
..and the song is the very first one in the list…
Maybe the necromancer forum sees fewer posts because we lack a dev that plays a dedicated necro as his/her main? I think I’ve seen most of the other classes played during demos, and done for showcase guides, but I can’t recall if they’ve done necro. Will have to double check their Twitch channel.
We have had the one new skill…and they still have well over a month and a half to go. I can easily see 2 or 3 more making it in, and adding even 1 more meets the required ‘new skills’ (plural there) they stated. I expect these things to be added slowly over a long period of time though. To simply dump a whole batch of new skills on us (while fun) would play havoc on game balance.
They have been remodeling, and redoing the traits. Technically they are ‘new’ but they aren’t new in the sense you’re thinking of. Perhaps the former is what they meant, not the latter. Or perhaps, they haven’t added any new ones yet because they wanted to do some more tweaking of the old ones, get some things balanced out first. At which point, new traits may not make it this year. Who knows. I’m happy with them reworking the old ones, and working on some balance for existing issues. I feel the foundation must be solid before they start adding onto it.
The precursor crafting and the new legendary trinket, we were told these were the highest risk for not making the end of the year deadline. I’ve not heard anything beyond that. Someone else said, in one of the various threads, that they’ve confirmed for not making it in before the end of the year, but I’ve not seen anything official on that. The last I’d seen from Colin was that they were high risk. Of course, I’m ok if they don’t make it in. Let them take the time they need to make sure it’s done right. No half-kittened cobble jobs (please).
Ascended armor and fractals… I expect to see these sometime in December.
I believe Tequatl is your ‘raid like content.’ From Colin’s statements at PAX, they don’t want to do more instancing. They don’t want to fracture the playbase too much, because then you simply won’t be able to find people to play with. (Hello GW1, kitten I miss my heroes)
Dev’s have also said that their raid content would not be like other games. Most other games use instancing, so it makes sense that GW2 might try to stick their ‘raids’ in the open world. So you don’t have to stand around for hours trying to find enough people (theoretically), people can just jump in and help out.
Colin also stated at PAX that ‘dungeons’ with more than 5 players is extremely unlikely, again for grouping reasons. They felt 5 was the sweet spot for easily finding enough people to play with in a relatively short amount of time. More time playing, less time preparing to play essentially.
Edit: Also, I just want to point out that just because it’s not instanced doesn’t mean you can’t treat it the same way. Grab your buddy, turn on your commander tags, find 78 other people to split between you, and go for it. Or use more then 2 commanders, and work out the details between the leaders for each subgroup before hand. It’s really not so different…
(edited by LanfearShadowflame.3189)
I do not recall about levels. I can absolutely know when I was playing in alpha ther indeed where no hearts. I also remember reading something along the lines of " feedback from alpha testers showed that the players wanted those things. They felt ‘lost’ and couldn’t figure out what to do, where to go. They wanted some sort of guide in order to play through the content." in dev notes or something as well.
Yeah it’s been so long, its hard to recall precisely lol. I know at one point they were all about upscaling as well as downscaling in their sidekicking system. So that players could go anywhere, but they opted not to do the upscaling….which they explained why somewhere. It made sense (to me at least) so I didn’t argue with it.
Tequatl, the Aetherblade dungeon, the Karka Queen*, the Clock Tower, the Labrynthine Horror* and getting to all the Zephyrite Crystals were all quite challenging. Difficulty varies.
*These can be overpowered by sheer force of numbers.
^That. Different people have different levels of skill, and for some what other’s consider easy is in fact not. I couldn’t complete the Clocktower no matter how hard I tried.
Anet has started giving us difficult and challenging content, that is permanent. Tequatl was a start. The new path in TA followed. Guess what, a very large chunk of the player base is whining that these things need to be nerfed, and/or don’t do them at all. “The rewards aren’t good enough” Here I thought people wanted challenging content for the skill involved…turns out that’s not what the players really wanted. They thought they did, but in truth all they wanted was a prettier shiny.
If I recall correctly, GW2 did not have levels in its alpha stages (could be wrong though). It didn’t have hearts either; however feedback from alpha testers showed that the players wanted those things. They felt ‘lost’ and couldn’t figure out what to do, where to go. They wanted some sort of guide in order to play through the content.
Additionally, yes leveling is a form of VP. It makes the player feel like their character is growing, getting more powerful, etc. People like this. In other games, you still have ‘leveling’ although it might not be denoted as character levels. In other RPGs you level your weapons, giving you a sense of becoming more powerful. It’s the same darn thing – you can’t get to/complete certain areas until your weapons are strong enough…you just well, die. The same happens here. If you go to a zone you aren’t leveled for (and you can), you have a much greater chance of dying. Doesn’t mean you will, just means you’re more likely to.
Belongs in the suggestion forum doesn’t [it]?

Between my husband and myself, probably between $300 and $400 over the past year. Might be more, but I can’t remember precisely how many of our character slots were bought golds->gems vs cash->gems.
I don’t really keep track because I’m not unhappy. I spend what I feel like spending when I feel it’s worth spending on. shrug Isn’t that how all women shop?

Ok , I need to stop using those forums , because I don’t understand 90% of the people that use them and it will cause conflict . If enjoying content for some people is clearing a dungeon in 2 hours instead of 10min then yes . I truly need to stop reading those forums . Considering clearing a dungeon faster will give you the end reward faster , it does really makes no sense to stay in those dungeons for 2 hours , omg i need to stop reading it now .
Let’s say a person’s goal in the game is to enjoy himself. He’s doing a dungeon with friends. The group is on Mumble, chatting, cutting up and generally enjoying each other’s company. No one is in a hurry. No one give’s a rat’s behind about getting pixelated rewards. They’re having fun with each other and that is their reward. Under those circumstances, a longer experience is more fun than racing through it.
My best memory in GW was a run in the Fissure of Woe. The heals monk had to log out due to migraine, a couple of others left. Five of us completed the clear, and it took us hours. I’d not had so much fun in a game before, and haven’t since.
Migraine was OP on Monks if you didn’t bring hex removal. Can’t blame him for leaving!
The prot monk was running Divert Hexes, which unfortunately had no effect on an irl migraine.
Sometimes having a life is painful.
haha I hear that. As someone that suffers from migraines on a regular occasion (2 – 3 times a month), I can only agree with that statement. It really sucks.
To be clear, this is not impacting the utility skill, just the sword #2 toggle. The reason is because of risk vs reward. This is a very rewarding skill with currently little risk associated.
Thank you for the clarification, though I rarely use the utility skill. My utilities are generally needed for other things. Might just be because of how I play. Personally, I’d have preferred to have the sword’s shadow return eat more initiative rather than have a longer cast time. I don’t mind have more risk involved, but not at the cost of mobility when things get bad, which we know can happen in a heartbeat. Just my thoughts on it though. Once I have a chance to use it/play with it, it might not be so bad.
Phew made it to page 26. I’ll be at work in about 20 minutes at whih point I’ll address some of the bigger Ranger, Thief, and Warrior discussions.
Let me reiterate 2 thing before I do that.
1) This is not a token exercise. I spent all weekend reading this stuff so that we could gather the feedback, compile it, and take actions where necessary.
2) please reread the OP. It talks a lot about how to give feedback, and if you follow it you help yourselves by helping us.

We appreciate the time you take to slog through our posts. Or at least, I do. It can be a chore… and not a fun one at that with some of the attitudes on here… chuckle
So I’m taking most of these with a grain of salt. Ele (staff) is my main, we’ll see how some of it works out. Essentially I’m reserving judgement on a lot of it (still need to digest much of what I’ve read) until I can play with it.
However, this one bothers me a little:
Shadow Return on Sword. Renamed to Infiltrator’s return. Added a 1/4s cast time.
Shadow step and shadow return are something both my husband and I utilize a lot when playing thief in pve. We like having the ease of mobility, and don’t mind sacrificing the initiative to be able to pop in and out of battle. (We’re squishy, it makes sense). I think the additional 1/4 cast time to get out of dodge could very easily mean life or death for our chars, which I don’t particularly like. I don’t see why this one is being changed. If it’s an issue in pvp, then separate the skill versions please.

This is the type of group I enjoy playing with, the types of memories I have from GW1. Things like:
Finishing fow with only 4 or 5 people, while playing as the bond monk (no significant heals specced).
The team near wiping on Plains in UW, but the ele terra tank surviving long enough to down the foes and get at least the monk back up to rez the rest of the team.
The monk, stepping in to play tank while still keeping the rest of the team up (cause the self proclaimed tank was uber terrible and likely left – the jerk).
Sometimes it takes a lot longer, but the people make it worthwhile because it’s simply fun. It’s not about how fast you can do it. It’s not about how optimized you are. Its not about how fast you can get to the shiny at the end. It’s about the experience you have between points A and B. Honestly, I thought that’s what MMOs were about, considering how loudly people yell about the social aspect of these games.
Still, I understand that for some people, getting from point A to point B as fast as they can to get the shiny is fun for them. To each their own.
That said, let people play however they want. I don’t care if you’re wearing zerkers or soldiers. If you personally run zerkers, and don’t want to play with someone in non-zerkers, fine. Specify as much, and move on. You don’t need to be a kitten to someone just because they enjoy playing differently than you. You don’t need to preach at them like some religious zealot. Simply let them play their own way, and you go yours. The same applies to anyone in any other armor type, let the zerkers be, you aren’t going to change their play style anymore than they will change yours. Neither side is right, neither side is wrong because, while the math does not lie you can get bigger numbers with zerkers, the choice of what you wear is still based on personal preference.
Disclaimer: The use of the word “you” in the above discussion does not target any specific individual. It is a general use term.
Scarlet has no worse depth than Batman’s Joker, or Catwoman, or Two-Face, and batman is a classic.
You must not have read very much Batman. The three you mentioned have extensively fleshed-out backstories (though the Joker’s are not definitive); they all have great pathos, flaws, and personal conflict.
Most importantly, If they accomplish something, it’s often shown how they do it. Their method and capability is clear for all to see. With Scarlet, we are merely told that something incredible has been accomplished, and that it was that genius Scarlet again.
Those characters do not exist primarily in the cartoons y’know!
Scarlet does have some back story, it was just presently poorly. Additionally her motives have been decently laid out, and really….taking over the world and rebuilding it in the villains image is a pretty common theme… I think there’s more to it, we don’t have all the details. Anet has been spinning out information on her slowly, a bit too slowly in my opinion, but I like some of the speculation too. The story isn’t over, we may yet see some of these behind the scenes things.
She also has character flaws, as someone else has taken the time to point out. She is not perfect. She is too smart for her own good though….
Also, I wasn’t referring to the comics. I was referring to the late 1980s, early 1990s movies and cartoon series (am I showing my age yet?). Comics where never my thing.
the did say ‘skills’, though. 1 skill does not the plural form ‘skills’ mean.
Not arguing that, but technically 2 would fit that description and they have 2 months to go…
I just don’t expect a new full set for each weapon for each class that the weapon goes on. That’s a bit much to ask in 6 months, I feel. Considering it’s not the only thing they are working on…
Whether you truly like it or not, the short answer is because that’s the route Anet chose to go.
We do have some reassurance that there won’t be any more armor tiers, at least in the near future. Although they have not promised to never add another, and from a strategic business sense, that decision is a sound one that I cannot argue.
We have been told to expect further tiers of infusions, but this was expected (at least by me) and shoudn’t really come as that much of a surprise either.
Still, I do not feel rushed to obtain this tier, if I obtain it at all. For my play, the additional stats are counterproductive. Exotics already make it relatively easy to waltz through the content, I have no desire to make it easier.
