yes pls. i’d even drop 20-30 bucks for that.

No, the gem store only offers cosmetics and convenience items. Changing that would change the game and not in a good way.

if exp boost is a convenience, how is a masteries unlock not? it only cuts the time. i’ve been told by everyone on this forum for the last 3 years that this is not pay to win whenever i brought it up.

sigh

Why do you bother playing if you just want to purchase your way to the end? You miss everything.

So..no.

what you miss is tons of pointless grind that has no substance to it. for me this game begins at the moment that everything is unlocked and i can start playing at full efficiency. everything before that is a chore.

Yes… because absolutely nothing is happening around you as you make your way to that HPC. Gotcha…

Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

I really can’t feel sorry for those people. Nobody ever said that doing World Completion will grant a big advantage to Espec unlock, ever. People assumed it would and played accordingly.

They did say, “The new system will come to the live game before the launch of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™, allowing players to experience the changes to core specializations and stockpile Hero Points for their elite specializations. While elite specializations will be available to everyone who purchases the expansion, the upcoming core specialization changes will affect the base game.”
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/ready-up-core-specializations-summary/

Yeah I know that article. So yes stockpile…
In fact those who have done so have a 50% advantage on the other, you can have up to half your mastery track unlocked in 18 hours…. not so bad. I don’t see written “… and stockpile Hero Points to fully unlock their elite specialization as soon as the expansion will be released”

It is interesting to hear Colin say world completion was around 200 points (he does not know the #? really?). World completion is 179 points. Yes, I know there are more in the borderlands and such, but they have not been part of world completion for awhile now.

I had figured I would get to 140 or so then do a LFG so a bunch of us could help each other with the challenges we were each unable to solo. I have all of my characters above 100 and my original plans were to have my ones most in need of the new specs to have at least 120 by launch.

Don’t know what world completion you’re going, but I have over 200 points and I’m not even done on my Theif

According to wiki there are only 202 hero challenges in the (current) world (189 pve, 3 per bl, and 4 in eb). Oddly, I could swear that have 214 on my ele, and she has everything unlocked. Confuzzled….

Gonna have to recheck that when I get home.

Ah, 189 …. I was thinking 1-something-nine but goofed the 7 for an 8. Part of the problem is all the HPs used to be part of world completion. Since they are still there to do (whether you do them now or before the change) it means your hero points may or may not be equal to how many hero point challenges the main map says you have done.

My ranger picked up a few in the SW. This caused a huge ‘huh?’ from me trying to figure out the discrepancy.

Which is why I have the excel spreadsheet for HPs lol. Makes it easier to track considering the number of 80s I have.

So..no.

Just to note, buying hero points =/= missing everything. I

He still got the whole expansion content to play minus HP grinding.

You miss the overarching general point to the statement. This time it’s skipping out doing HPCs so he can have the elite spec right away. Next he’ll want something else – like all the WP unlocked via gems, so he can just port around the world wherever he needs to be, missing both the content and the experience of getting to the place. Then it’ll be something else, and then something else. Once it begins, there is no end. You see it all the time in f2p p2w games.

So we’ll just nip it in the bud now.

It will be interesting to see some of the details. For example, what is involved in getting pact mastery up to things like the mentor tag.

I’m curious about that track’s xp requirements as well. I know several of us are aiming for that loot hoover capability as quickly as possible.

Yes, having to go around to everything during the fight and check their pockets is annoying. The REAL pain in the neck is when, after a boss fight, your client crashes while everyone surges towards the chest. Or a champ is downed and you can not find the chest.

I am really looking forward to that mentor tag though. It is what I bought my commander tag to do but is a bit more obvious.

every time i consider buying a commander tag 1 of 2 things happens:

1) I find a much better use for the funds
2) Some idiot(s) remind me why I hate people

I always figured we’d have to “do” stuff to earn the elite spec. I just didn’t think the cost would be quite so steep though. Still, I can deal with that, depending on how those unlocks are spaced out in the 340 point window (60 to start, 400 for complete = 340 point gap to space things in).

I have been trying to track down information about the exclusion of xp consumables but am having trouble locating anything. Will the exclusion only apply to consumables that grant xp directly such as writs of xp or also include xp earning buffs such as killstreak consumable?

There was a Zam article well before the first beta, that stated that xp boosters, xp banners, etc would also not work on xp gain for mastery tracks; however, I do believe that people were able to use these during the betas. So it is unclear if this statement still applies.

We have had a definitive statement that neither tomes or writs will work for mastery tracks. Writs cannot be used on a lvl 80 character, 20 of them can be combined to create 1 tome. A tome used on a lvl 80 character will grant you a spirit shard, but does not apply any xp to a mastery track.

Yeah. We were able to use XP boosters during the beta tests. I think you can easily get well over 400% depending on what all can be stacked.

That’s what I thought.

So I wonder… was that just for the betas, or have they changed their stance on those things being usable?

I’m guessing since:

  • they could be used during beta
  • anet was looking for feedback on how we felt about length of time to achieve masteries
  • the boosters were recently changed

That we’ll be able to use them and they’re just planning on padding xp numbers as needed from our feedback.

They worked during the final beta. I guess we’ll know for certain within 15 hours. It sure hasn’t stopped people from buying those lunar fireworks.

Makes me regret selling mine so long ago, haha.

But if they do…I have like a dozen birthday boosters just waiting for use.

Please Make Map Completion Account Bound

I agree with the OP at least somewhat. Unlocking the map repeatedly is a boring chore.

The fix I suggest: At level 80 areas and WP should all become account bound. That leaves a ton of stuff for you to do for map completion and world completion. You still have to get all the hearts, POI’s, and vistas.

Please implement this.

And miss out on a crap ton of xp.

1 waypoint = ~2.625% of character level.
A normal zone typically has between 10 and 20 waypoints.
At 80, one ‘level’ is 254000xp. That’s roughly 6600xp per waypoint. Assuming a map with the max 20 WPs, lets say you get half of them while leveling and the other half after you hit 80. That’s 66k xp towards a mastery line (10*6600).

Considering you need 12,700,000 xp for the legendary mastery line alone….. Yeah, no. I’ll take that xp tyvm.

making it an option works for me. Anyway, you’re not considering the time involved. While you’re mindlessly getting waypoints you can use the time to get as much or more XP from other sources.

The problem with that assumption is that you’re not doing anything else while getting those waypoints. Which, for a lot of us, is highly unlikely.

I have no issue with their being some means of opting in to having the WPs unlocked (and losing out on things like xp they would have given and map completion), but I feel that more should be necessary than just merely having a lvl 80 on your account, considering you can achieve that in a matter of hours.

Just having a level 80? That wasn’t what i said. I never suggested that at level 80 every WP should magically open up.

I said once your toon dings 80 you get the waypoints that you already opened at least once. If you never opened a waypoint = its locked.

Misunderstood. I suppose that would be sufficient, again, as long as the trade offs are there.

Still, based on comments made in the Pact Commander Mastery stream, I highly doubt they’ll ever do anything like this. The comment was made about opening up waypoints, and they stated they didn’t want to do it because they felt it would result in missing/skipping too much content.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I would only support this type of pack for pvp-only players. This way they could purchase the elites specs for pvp play without necessarily buying the additional content they’d never play. GW1 had similar pvp-only packs that could be purchased, to gain access to skills and such from expansions (example: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Skill_Unlock_Pack).

Additionally, it would need to be limited to a cash purchase in some way. No gold to gems. But that’s just my opinion on it.

Did you hurt your head somewhere ? the only benefit of being a pvp player is that you haven’t to do anything to earn skills and gear and you want to bring them away with the addition of a pay wall ?
Jokes aside, i’m against of any type of pay to unlock content since the expension is already a pay2unlock one.

sigh

PvP only players (typically) dont care about new zones. New story. New raids. They only care about what they get in pvp, which amounts to the new mode (stronghold), it’s associated heroes (ossa, nika, etc), reward tracks, and elite specs. Some of that requires the xpac purchase (new reward tracks, nika track, w/e the other mist hero track, elite specs) some of it doesn’t (stronghold in general, ossa). As such, some pvp players didn’t feel it was worth spending $50 for basically just elite specs. So those players didn’t purchase the expansion.

Offering them the ability to purchase just the elite spec for say $5 each (unlocks a specific class elite for pvp only) would be a way for anet to get some of those people to still spend money.

Like I said, it would be similar to pvp unlock packs from the original game. It’s just a nice quality of life for the competitive scene.

To answer your question, yes. I don’t have the source offhand, but any mastery points that are awarded for activities that you have already completed will be retroactively awarded at least for Tyria (not sure this applies to anything accomplished the beta, I doubt it does).

This won’t really put you at an advantage though since you do still need to earn experience to train the masteries before you can actually spend the mastery points on them.

The retroactive mastery point rewarding for core areas statement was made in the Pact Commander Mastery stream.

Some streams are more professional than others, depends on who is there other than Rubi. Still, I semi-enjoy their fun loving nature on the streams.

While the streams are intended to present some information, they really aren’t the be all and end all for it. More for a smattering of general discussion, some minor Q&A, and some show and tell. Its good to see that the devs enjoy their work and take pride in it.

They really don’t have the time to use the streams to really get into the nitty gritty on a lot of things. But between the blogs and the streams, you can usually get a decent feel for…most.. things.

That gold isn’t going away completely. I believe it was stated that those rewards are being redistributed in other places (most likely fractals and raids).

this one is correct

EDIT: copypaste the link, the forum breaks it!
http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?iso=20151023T0001&p0=234&font=cursive&swk=1

That’s also incorrect, HoT still has 29.5 hours to launch

No, there are less than 24 hours left till launch. It’s presently roughly 630am Pacific 10/22.

Halloween for me. Probably on that Rev since all that glorious xp can be put to use. now I just have to decide if my rev will be a kitty, or a tree…. ugh… so many choices.

Tree first, human second, kitty last. That’s my plan.

Jeez, gamers are so weird

Lol I’d say this about sums it up, but really, it doesn’t even come close. Weird is a strong understatement.

Irrational is the word I think we are all looking for.

But then again, this only serves as proof as to why we can’t have World Peace or proper focus on space travel, or new technologies…

I was thinking more along the lines of kittening insane, but sure… we can go with irrational.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Halloween…. full bore. Not even a question really. So many new limited shinies….must have! HoT will be there waiting when Halloween has passed.

For me, the only real question is – do I level the baby rev, or do I use all that yummy Halloween xp to level core masteries? Choices, choices…

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Yeah, I didn’t bother taking tomorrow off. Launch is 3am my time (eastern). Figure I’ll get up at 5am like normal (yes, that is my normal), start the download, and then go about my standard Friday (chase the kid out of bed, make sure he’s around and on the bus by 630. chase my husband out of bed by 6 so i can chase him out of the house by 645, and finally have me out the door and on my way to work by 7. so much fun… not). More than likely I’ll need to download a bunch of fix-it patches anyway, so no point in using PTO. I’ll just remote into my machine from work and download as necessary so it’s all ready for me. Then tomorrow night after work I can enjoy some Halloween fun.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Should also point out that datamining from a month ago put us at 250 HP for the elite spec, which is more than the currently acquirable 214. Which already refutes Menadena’s statement.

That 250 was a huge part of why many thought the numbers were not to be trusted and were obviously too high.

Too high? Not at all; considering they essentially gutted the whole objective of hero points when they caved and made it so everyone got enough points for the core content just by leveling to 80. This at least gives us reason to go hunt them again, while also ensuring that those that have map completing still have reason to continue to gathering HP in the new zones.

I wouldn’t call that Caving, that was common sense. If a p[layer has spent X time and unlock everything it would be absolutely moronic to take that away and make them redo it. That is a terrible example, taking away progression is a game killer, people hate rollbacks what do you think would happen if they rolled back all your progression ? Only the foolish would remain.

It was caving, they took the easy route and simply made it so being lvl 80 was enough. I get what you’re saying about not taking things away, but there were better options than completely gutting the hero point system. The primary issues coming from people that either didn’t do the pve content, or play wvw as their dedicated mode. The latter is being addressed with HoT – being able to use ranks and badges to purchase the challenges.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

well considering they are releasing them in batches of 3 you will see one 18-24 weeks lanfearshadowflame

Meh we’ll probably get a preview before then, but 3 – 4 months between batches isn’t bad if they do stick to sets of 3. Not like they’ve never changes their plans before, right?

I think it was said during the stream that it takes about a month(?) to make a legendary, give or take a couple of components. So I’d think seeing a new one every 6-8 weeks would be ‘acceptable’ by my standards. Depends, of course, on if they have ideas for the other 13 or not.
