Instanced Raids Confirmed [merged]

So….casual here, time is usually my biggest concern. Granted, I used to do FoW and UW back in the day, I was mildly peeved when I could only do it on the weekend because it was the only point in the week that I could sink 4 hours into a single instance.
On one hand, I don’t want to see “raids” (which are supposedly supposed to be like FoW, UW, DoA, etc) turn into ‘speed clear’ fodder (as UW did. Can’t ever find an ‘old school’ group for that anymore). However, on the other hand, I don’t want it to take forever so I can only do it once a week IF I’m lucky.
Content doesn’t have to be insanely time consuming in order to offer a challenge.
Some “casuals” enjoy difficult challenges too. Please stop equating “casual” to “bad” or “easy mode” for kittens sake. Many of us do not appreciate it.
- Guild Name: Shadow Sworn Warriors

- Preferred Mode: Primarily PvE, but players of all modes are welcome. People are more willing to cross-mode dabble when they have people to do it with.
- Home World: Devona’s Rest, NA

- Additional Info: Below -
Shadow Sworn Warriors [SSW] is a small, old GW1 guild that migrated over at beta. Sadly, most of our members have wandered off to live that thing called life, but a couple of us still play (mainly me) and would like to rebuild what we had in GW1 – a close knit, fun group of people to hang out with.
We prefer being small. We don’t have any plans on becoming one of the huge 500 people guilds, because we feel that you lose that special “something” when you get that many people. As leader, I like to know my members, and I like my members to know me.
We’re very casual. GW2 is a game, not a job. We don’t have any type of requirement for specific times to be on, for example. Most of us have jobs and families, and or school. So we’re mostly on evenings and weekends. When we’re on, we’re generally pretty chatty, and like to just hang out and goof off.
We’re mainly PvE oriented. Lots of random map completing. Lots of alt leveling. Just getting lost and having a laugh at doing stupid stuff. Some of us do a little bit of dungeoning, although we aren’t “hard core” about it. Just something fun to do and enjoy. Speed clearing isn’t really our thing.
sPvP and WvW (with the exception of EotM) aren’t something we indulge in often, although I know that I and a couple other will occasionally jump in and play some of it. These types of players are still welcome, I have no issue having variety in my guild. Don’t feel alienated because we don’t necessarily do it as our mainstream. Having more people that do it might encourage some of us to partake more often. After all, variety is the spice of life.
Our motto is ‘Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional.’ The guys in the guild have good naturedly added ‘Perverts R Us’ as an extension of our motto. We are very playful in nature. We harass each other constantly (in good fun) and conversations do not always stay child appropriate. As such, if you are easily offended, we are definitely not the guild for you. We are definitely an ‘acquired’ taste
.
We do not have a website (I would have no idea what to even put on one). We do have a teamspeak, thanks to one of our wayward members, if we desire voip, although it’s not generally necessary. I am also in the process of setting up a Discord server as well for communication purposes – persistent out of game chat (mobile capable) as well as decent voip capability.
We are looking for people that simply want to play to have fun. That like leveling alts, and exploring. That may play with goals in mind, but aren’t necessarily in a mad rush to achieve them. Someone relatively laid back, that can roll with the punches. If you’re interested, feel free to track me down: either PM me on here, or you can wsper me in game.
Good luck and remember to have fun out there,
Lan

Hero point cost on Elite Specs too high
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189
I thought it was right around 100 points for the elite. Of course, I’m basing it off the current points need for a core spec and a skill bar with 6 skills in it. Its 60 points, I believe for the trait line, and then another like 25 for the skill line. Puts us at 85 points, roughly? I think that’s perfectly fine.
Do we know if we will have new hero challenges in the HoT maps, for those that don’t desire to go grab them in the core game? I didn’t see any in the beta, but I hadn’t heard definitively that we wouldn’t either. I doubt we’d have a full 85 new ones in HoT, but I would expect at least a few.
Taking October 23 off from work/school?

I figure it’ll take my connection the fair part of the day to patch, so I figure I’ll go to work like normal on the 23rd. Maybe even download the patch at work (1meg down is very helpful) and then just transfer the dat from my work laptop to my desktop when I get home.
I do plan on taking Monday the 26th off though so I have a whole day to just play without my husband or my son making depends on my time.
I dont think you will have that problem, i dont think they will make a big download the release date, they probably add the game from time to time until release and when the time comes they just turn the expansion On, basically like they do for betas.
Atleast i hope that is the idea, i dont wanna download 10gb+ on the release
Oh I agree, they’ll probably start slipping parts of it into patches between then and now. But between the final download, and the assorted patching they’ll likely need to do over those first few days….. I don’t see myself getting much play time with my slow kitten download speeds at home. It takes me well over an hour to download just a ‘normal’ bi-weekly patch. (Have I mentioned how much I hate ATT?)

hyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyype!
So excited!
No, they aren’t stupid. Although sometimes they are a bit naive, I think. Or just don’t think through all of the ramifications.
Great ideas, poor implementation…
Exactly
No, they aren’t stupid. Although sometimes they are a bit naive, I think. Or just don’t think through all of the ramifications.
I’m honestly not sure how I feel about the core game going free to play. I mean, they could do something akin to WoW’s first 20 lvls is free to play or something, and then you can purchase the game if you want to continue after that. It would allow a lot more people to “try it out” without the up front commitment. However, I’m very leery of just straight up “free to play” all of the core game. Sends the wrong image imo. Who knows, maybe it’ll be ok though.
As for raids… no, I can’t say I’m surprised. Not after the raid cdi, the specific hiring of a “raid designer.” No, not a surprise at all. The word itself makes me twitch, due to some extremely bad experiences in WoW, but this isn’t WoW, so there’s hope. I seriously hope Anet didnt go overboard with this concept though. I am really hoping for something more akin to GW1 ‘elite areas’ as opposed to WoW’s “heroic 40-man” raids. I will cross my fingers and wait for saturday I guess.
While “Dare Devil” isn’t my first choice for a thief elite spec, it’s not too terribly awful either. IMO It’s no where near as generic and awful as “Dragonhunter” which devalues everyone that is not a guardian.
Most of the time I prefer doing dungeons with zerk fast groups but sometimes I enjoy joining all welcome parties and having a relaxing run.
The question I have is how do the creators of casual/all welcome groups feel about this.
Of course I never bring up other players builds or try to force anyone to change anything about the way they play.
I also let other members dictate the pace of the run so I don’t accidentally rush ahead and ask if we are skipping or clearing at the start.
With this in mind..Does it bother you that a player is in zerker gear in your group?
Would you care if that player uses ‘meta’ weps and rotations and does things like might stacking during fights, as long as they dont ask u do to the same?
Nope, doesn’t bother me in the least. Don’t care what you wield. Don’t care what gear you run. Hell, you could run naked for all I care. We’re here to have fun, and to enjoy each other’s company. Yes, getting through the content is the goal, but hilarity and great times are more likely to arise if it takes you more than 5 seconds to get through any specific encounter.
Now, if a person turns into one of those people that blows their stack because someone dies, or the group wipes on what they consider to be an “easy boss,” or because the group isn’t ‘skipping’ in some arbitrarily ‘appropriate’ way, then I have no problems giving them the very acidic side of my tongue and promptly removing them from my group.

Arrrgh! We’ve had Wednesday article reveals on other Elites, thanks to ZAM and Massively OP. I don’t know how to find them, though — I’ve been googling various things.
Now, it’s not even 9 am west coast time yet so maybe something will show up. And certainly we should get a blog tomorrow. But if anyone finds an in-depth article like we got on Tempest and Berserker, I hope you’ll link it asap
I’ve been waiting for the article today as well, but not seen anything as yet.

People, this is an incentive. Companies do it all the time. Now you have even more “motivation” to pre-purchase (if you’re an AP hound).
This is no different than when they changed the AP system to actually have tangible rewards like the Hellfire and Radiant skins. It was an incentive for people to do more achievements.
Do you use a gaming mouse, or a programmable mouse? Lots of people bind the click to their scroll wheel and let fly. Saves on clicking.
Do you use a gaming or programmable keyboard? Others of us program a key for double click and then set it to repeat while pressed, or set it as a toggle on/off. Again, saves the mouse and your hands.
Thanks LanfearShadowflame for the advice. Im waiting for my Logitech G600 to arrive. Will definitely program such an option then.
No problem. This question / request actually comes up a lot.
OP, the issue here isn’t “zerk” as a style. The problem here is people. Some of them are just kittenes, and that’s what you seem to have found. Unfortunately, there are a lot of them out there, although they do tend to congregate more in certain modes of the game. The whole “well we died because you’re holding us back. we aren’t doing enough dps” is a cop out. Nothing more, nothing less.

Sigh.
If this is indeed the staff it looks like… So much for the comment of ‘no two professions will be getting the same new weapons’.
they never said they wouldn’t give two specs the same weapon.
Could be remembering it incorrectly, but I could have sworn this was said when the specializations were first being mentioned to the public.
Still. Makes the thief and ranger specializations feel less, well, special.
Anet never stated that we wouldn’t see duplicates across the elites, regarding which weapon they would get. I, and several others, speculated on it based on what had been seen (and as such, what other classes could get) up until we got the Glint spec, which gave as a second elite spec with shield. Thus blowing our speculation right out of the water.
The primary support for rifle thief came from the initial announcement trailer, in which we saw a medium armor class wielding a rifle. Some of us did caution that it could have simply been a normal engineer wielding a rifle, but we were shouted down because we did see some of the elites teased there (such as mesmer shield).
Oh that’s hillarious!
Yes, absolutely needs fixing as soon as humanly possible.
But still funny as hell.
“This is a disgusting amount”
300 gems difference is a disgusting amount? When it’s actually 10 outfits (race and gender specific) instead of the typical 2?
People complained they wanted race specific design which that equals longer development time, which then equals higher price. It really is no shocker at all that it costs what, 4$ more than the other outfit. If they are going to kitten about 4$ than they need to work on priorities.
Short story, don’t buy it if you think it is too much.
I have 0 issue with the price. I’m well aware that this type of outfit takes distinctly more time, and I’m actually super excited to buy it when I get home. It’s nice to see race specific skins, I’m one of the many that asked for them.
My response was aimed at this:
This is a disgusting amount, On top of the lack luster “sales”. Whats happening Anet why.
Yeah, was adding on to your comment.
We are in complete agreement.
Ah ok. Didn’t sound that way (and wouldn’t be the first time someone misunderstood me haha).

1. “Faithful” (a title)
Title was expected, like the word choice.
2. Birthday Finisher
Saw the datamine for this. Was super excited about it, glad it actually came as part of the gift and wasn’t scrapped.
3. 2 Birthday Boosters
Yay! Thank you anet. Love these things! Please continue to enable my alt-a-holism!
4. 1 Experience Scroll (Level 30 instead of 20)
I expected a lvl 20 scroll, not a lvl 30. Since our level cap isn’t increasing, I don’t really like where this might be leading. Call me paranoid I guess, but considering assorted levels for these scrolls has been previously datamined, I really don’t like seeing this. (Not that I won’t use it, but that’s not my point here.)
5. 5 Teleport to a Friend
Sort of “meh” on this one personally. Although, maybe I can use them to help move mapping along on an alt.
6. 1 Celebratory Dye Pack
Am I broken that I don’t really care for any of the Electro colors? (and don’t feel like wasting my freebies on them?) (Yes, I’m aware there are other choices to choose from)
tl;dr this is an awesome reward for the community
Agreed! And here, I was terrified we’d end up with another Jenna debacle.
Looks like they learned from that. You only get the Birthday finisher one time as a separate unlock instead of there being one with each present.
That had completely slipped my mind about the finisher (glad they learned), do those additional gifts get something else instead or are they just 1 item less than the first 3rd year gift?
tl;dr this is an awesome reward for the community
Agreed! And here, I was terrified we’d end up with another Jenna debacle.
You had two of the dyes?
I had almost all of the dyes!
I’m going to have to throw away some of my birthday dyes. I don’t like it when anet gives out gemstore stuff that I paid for for free. I didn’t like it when they did it with x-mas Minipets and I still don’t like it today.
But at least we get a sweet new finisher.
People in your particular situation, I would be ok with Anet substituting the dye for something else. Since, if you have them all, it’s pointless to give you one (being account based and all). I would suggest simply making them tradeable, but I think that might cause too much of an uproar than just being allowed to swap the item for a different one would.
Neither warrior or engineer have access to staves, as yet. Though, we’ll probably see them in future elite specs.
Sword is another one that has made it into almost every class as well. Engi, Ele, and Necro just need to join the party. But, again, likely in future elite specs.
We’ve seen a new utility type (rage) in this set of elites, I am hoping to see new terrestrial weapon types in the next ones.
Ah the special snowflake rage. So many acrid tears.
“I bought it! It’s not fair!”
Such is life. I bought the game with my own money, someone else I know won it in a raffle. I have to work every day to pay my bills, other people have trust funds with enough money to cater to every desire they will ever have and will never know wtf “work” actually is. Nothing in life is fair. If it were a lot of people would be in much better places, and the games we play would be totally different.
Instead of screaming about how supposedly unfair this is, just use yours to get the next most expensive dye on your list of ‘dyes I want’ and be glad you don’t need to grind out the gold for it now.

Sad staff is confirmed. But after the Tempest disssapointment it was easy to spect Anet giving Thief yet another melee style. I hope is actually a good one, truly different from the actual base, and not only a new set of gimmicks to do exactly the same…
Wich could be the name of this new Elite Spec?
The Ninja? The Distractor? The Dragon Poker?
DareDevil according to datamining
*Dare Devil
daredevil* is one word.
Yes, it is. Except in the datamine they made it two words. Arrrgh!
Next we’ll be seeing the Handy Man, the Post Man, the News Paper …

I was really surprised we got one this morning! I hope they keep em rolling out for the next two following weeks. I’m dying to see Druid. I think . . . . . I need more character slots XD
I keep telling myself I’m going to stop at 21, but I’m pretty sure I’m just lying to myself at this point…..
The first time I saw Shadow Behemoth. I remember pausing, blinking a couple of times, and then I shrieked in glee like a teenager while charging in to the fight. (I think I scared a few years off my husband’s life at the same time lol)

Druid still get’s a staff as far as we are aware. It’s not the first duplicate we’ve seen. Both mesmer and rev elite specs got shield.
And apparently I was wrong.
This week we will get Thief specialization. Challenging Group Content AND other announcements.Seems like they are speeding up, a release date announced this weekend doesn’t seem so unlikely anymore.
I didn’t think they’d be posting anything this week originally either. Figured they’d take it for PAX prep (despite PAX being on thier doorstep), but I’m glad to see I was wrong.

No, that’s definitely a thief.
The concept art for rangers has always depicted the pet clearly, and are typically green based in coloration. They have stuck to their color pallets thus far, even with elites, there is no reason to assume they would change now.
So a “finisher” is an action that produces an effect when used in combination with a “field.” The most common one is using skills listed as “blast” type finishers on “fire” type fields, in order to produce stacks of the might boon.
Specifically, a projectile finisher, is a projectile that has the ability to produce these type of effects when traveling through a combo field. This wiki page, may help you:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Combo#Combo_effects
The phantasm will still fire all of it’s shots, some of them just may produce additional affects.
Is Duelist Discipline required? No, not if you don’t want to use it or it doesn’t fit with your build. If you like Desp Decoy better, than try that one. Personally, I run a phant build, so I tend to take Phantasmal Fury.

It is misleading advertisment if Anet had advertised HoT with a sentence akin to:
“Buy HoT to get the new PvP and WvW map.”
I don´t know if they did, but that would be a classical misleading advertisment and illegal or at least disputable in many countries.Specifically what they said was that the new borderland and the new pvp mode would be coming with the expansion. That doesn’t specifically say one way or the other that it will require the purchase of the expansion, although most would likely assume such, and Anet may have originally considered going that route. However, they have opted to give those to the players for free (the rather strong feedback may have helped this decision along), but that still doesn’t make their initial statement (“coming with the expansion”) false, or inaccurate. It does; however, highlight pretty well how people like to make assumptions and then riot when their assumptions turned out to be inaccurate.
Anet made the decision to include those modes for everyone, instead of limiting it to those that purchase it. People should be applauding that decision considering what they could have done. And you know what this community would say if they went the other way around.
This is another example of Anet not being able to win.
And if they don’t include in in what they’re making with the expansion, people are already saying it’s small. It’s coming with the expansion. The expansion is likely funding it. If people choose not to support that, it doesn’t mean it’s not part of the expansion content.
Lol Vayne, your first sentence kind of comes off as though you’re arguing with me, even though I said the same thing.
Anyway, yes, it’s another excellent example of Anet being in a lose-lose scenario. It wouldn’t have mattered which way they went, someone would have kittened. While I do applaud them for the approach they are taking, to others it just going to lend credibility to their delusions that the expansion is “too small for it’s price” because they now no longer consider those two things to be “part” of the expansion.
Nah I was backing you up. Emphasizing. Quoting for truth. I know you agree with me.
chuckle
K, just making sure we weren’t going to end up in one of those warped arguments where both parties are actually saying the same thing, but just don’t realize it. Been in a few of those over my time here, and I still scratch my head at how I manage to get into those things. ( I guess arguing is just in my nature.

Adding torch to that trait would annoy me if warhorn isn’t added as well.

I like the overall theme of Berserker, and I like some of the skills. It did preview as a bit strong and I do think the numbers for at least some of the skills are going to require some tweaking, but that’s what beta weekends are for – to help bring those numbers into line with existing content/skills/etc. Hopefully I get a chance to actually participate in the next beta so I can check it out (even though warrior is not my main, by a long shot lol).
Considering the number of these threads that are popping up, I just have to ask…. wtf happened to “reading comprehension”? Just ugh. Schools everywhere are obviously failing.
Darn, and here I thought they were making a Stargate Atlantis reference.
I don’t play warrior as my main; however, this is a trait I use pretty much all the time, and yes I would like to see the torch added to the list. Given the name of the trait, it logically makes sense to do so, since you are still “dual wielding.” It doesn’t really matter what you are holding in your off-hand.
Big discounts?
Caithe’s Bloom and Kasmer’s Staff were always 600 gems weren’t they?
I know the dagger was 600 at least.
A whole whopping 0% off sale!Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited to see them bringing some stuff back and adding new stuff. But I hope stuff being full price isn’t going to be the norm here.
I don’t remember the previous price were, but if what you say is true, than what a big slap in the face to call it a “sale”.
You know how if you buy something, the main page shows a purchase history with gem amount that lets you rebuy if still for sale?
That only works if its for sale at the same price you purchased for previously, if it is relisted at a different price the gem value of your purchase, and thus the ability to rebuy from that screen doesn’t come back.
So since Caithe’s Bloom is available for 600 (the same amount I paid before) that item in my history now shows a gem value that I could click on to buy again.
Were it priced differently it would not.And I’m sure plenty of people will quibble about the term “sale” and point out you can have things “for sale” without being “on sale”.
The only reason I raise an eyebrow is their blog post specifically says “Check in every day for 21 days for big discounts”, and I was figuring new stuff would be full price while returning items would be discounted.
Or at least something discounted every day.
Probably one of those weird wording things where the people making the announcements don’t really know how to english.
Just odd to have a first day of a “big discount” sale not have any discounts lol.Note, the jump start packages do not count as discounted.
Because they have never been for sale, they cannot be called discounted
That’s like wal-mart taking an item that has always been for sale at $5.99 and adding a sign saying “was 8.99!”
Which I’ve seen them do.
Putting something new up with a “used to be more expensive” tag is disingenuous at best.
As someone else already pointed out, the line states:
“Check in every day for 21 days for big discounts, returning old favorites, and exciting new items!”
“Big Discounts” – this could cover the new packs, since if you tally up everything in them, they are cheaper than buying piece meal. We’ll see what the other 20 days bring.
“Returning Favorites” – says nothing about them being “on sale” just that they will be back “for sale”, and this covers Caithe’s Blossom, and Kasmeer’s Staff
“New items” – definitely covers the packs. Yes, they are essentially all existing items, but them being bundled is “new” (wouldn’t necessarily call it exciting personally, but it’s new).
And yes, there is a distinct difference between “for sale” and “on sale.”

If EotN had 18 dungeons then GW2 has 33 dungeons with possibly another 11.
It had 18 – http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Dungeon
They just weren’t as “huge” as he’s claiming. Yes, they were multi-leveled, but most levels were sort of small. Like GW2 dungeons, their varied in size.
I know the count. The point being that quite a lot of the dungeons were just copy and pasted from others. Look at the Slaver’s Exile maps and tell me you don’t see the same maps in the other dungeons. The entire map for Freezie was reused from another dungeon.
I’m aware, but that doesn’t make them “not a dungeon” though. No one claimed they were “unique” dungeons.
So if the expansion contains 6 unique maps but 15 total, you’d be okay with that?
That would depend on a lot of things, Ayrilana. Which maps are they coping? What’s happening in them? How often are those things happening? What’s the mode flip for that map, and how well does it function? Yes, in the very end it all boils down to “am I enjoying myself?” and if that answer is “Yes” then it’s all good.
I am realistic in my expectations when it comes to development, and what people seem to forget is that development takes a lot of time, especially when things are being built from scratch. To help ease that time sink, developers tend to try to re-use as much as they can.
Besides, there is really only so much than can be done in a “unique” (truly unique) way. There is a finite number of ways to make things work, even if there is a near infinite number of ways to skin them.
