I dk… I just compare this heavily with GW1. The first expansion came out 6 months after the main release. Also, I found the other games game I have been playing every couple of months there is an expansion. Those other games don’t require too much payment unless you want super awesome stuff for your account or the expansion pack.

Actually, it took them a year to come out with Factions, but that’ s neither here nor there.

I’m going to say stop comparing to GW1. Yes, it’s the same company. Yes, it’s a sequel. However, while it is rooted in the same world, GW2 is an entirely different animal.

I think I was misunderstood, I DO NOT play GW2. I log in for my daily chest and out again. And I have taken breaks from the game, months at a time. This would be my third or fourth break in the time this game has been out. Really, I have no problem to pay for a quality game, I just wish it was an option to.

This sounds more like GW2 just doesn’t suit your taste. It’s not offering anything you desire to do, which is fine. Not all games are for all people. Obviously if you’ve played through the content and don’t find any enjoyment in doing any of it again on another character (or if you couldn’t finish it on your first one) then maybe you need to reevaluate what you’re looking for. Don’t force yourself to play because you feel you like you “should” or like you “need to” because neither are viable reasons to play. If you honestly can’t say ‘I enjoy this’ then you shouldn’t be doing it.

I’m in agreement with others – getting bored happens, just take a break. That’s just life, we all need variety.

I’ve been playing since beta, and yes occasionally I feel bored or I just don’t feel like playing. At which point I go do something else – watch some tv, read a book, take my dogs for a walk, etc.

Post processing on high tends to kill my eyes, so I’ve always turned it to low or completely off. If ‘low’ is no longer an option, I might be mildly miffed. Perhaps this is a bug though?

Either way, I will likely end up turning it completely off.

So... where are the dungeons?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189

LanfearShadowflame.3189

I don’t understand where people are getting the idea that dungeons are a “small” part of the game. Even after running the exact same dungeons for 2.5 years it only takes me ~5s to get a full dungeon group. To get a full PvP match going takes 5-6 minutes… it takes hours to get a SW map to the point that people actually want to join in, and then they immediately leave again once it finishes.

I would argue that dungeons are the most played aspect of the game.

I guess it depends on a lot of factors. Dungeons typically take me longer than PvP matches. I’ve stood and waited upwards of 10 minutes for a ‘casual’ run (made the post myself, marked it casual, and twiddled my thumbs) where as the longest I think I’ve waited for a pvp match was about 2 and a half minutes.

The average time it takes me to fill a casual run is longer (by a minute or 2, so not a huge discrepancy) than the average time I’m standing around waiting for a pvp match. But there are a lot of external factors that impact that wait time – time of day, dungeon in question, path desired, class being played, etc etc.

SW typically takes about an hour to go all the way through start to finish. Unless people are chest training instead of fort defending, then yeah it takes hours.

Based on my experience, dungeons aren’t the “most played aspect” of the game. Are they a popular aspect? Sure, to an extent, but so is open world boss farming.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Downscaling & HoT power creep

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189

LanfearShadowflame.3189

its not the failed downscaling
they nerfed champions in starter zones

Grazden for example the champion in Plains of Ashford
is WEAKER than his adds

he litteraly dies 3x as fast!!!!!!!!!!

its so ridiculous!!
Anet made the NPE 10000x WORSE
because no new player can even hit it 1x because grazden dies instantly form any hit from the player with the lowest damage
tell me how that can lead to any good experience for new players??

Grazden was the perfect first champ for new players
with objects to fight him with the use of LoS and learn the need to dodge his big Aoe etc

but they nerfed him SO MUCH
in 1 patch
From Champion to Veteran
From Veteran to Normal Mob
From Normal Mob to WEAKER THAN THE NORMAL MOBS!!

Wtf anet??

I’ve noted issues in other zones too though, not just starter zones. I mean, really, I should not be able to kill mobs in Bloodtide Coast with a single rotation of my auto attack (3 hits). There should be a little more to it than that. Granted, it’s great if I’m just running through farming, but it does get mighty boring that no further thought is required.

Downscaling & HoT power creep

Yes, downscaling needs to be looked at again and have some balance work done on it. Hopefully after HoT launches they will take some time to do that, but I doubt anything will happen until that point. Colin has mentioned in almost every interview recently (when asked about changes to the base game) that right now their focus is pretty much completely HoT (and I can’t knock them for that).

Grind is still grind

Devata, essentially your entire post is boiling down to you don’t like how Anet made their game. You want them to change it to suit your needs, because you don’t like a specific aspect. You consider it to be ‘grind.’ Anet has defined what they meant by ‘no grind’ and that’s really the end of the discussion. You don’t have to like it, you don’t necessarily have to agree, but that’s their approach.

Of course you could say that about any complain.

True, the same can be applied to many (maybe not all) complaints leveled on this forum. However, in the case of certain types of complains, Anet has come forward and laid out their thought process or reasons behind doing certain things. Colin has laid out exactly what Anet’s view on “grind” is, and for the most part their definition holds true to the assorted components of the game. You are not required to do just 1 thing repeatedly to achieve the goals like obtaining gear or leveling your character.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I don’t think they are 100% on the money with everything, but for the most part, they do pretty well.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I think the problem with some grind is there is no alternative which Colin said there would be.

Really, the only “no alternative” issue only applies to ascended gear acquisition. And then, only to the armor and weapons, since rings and trinkets can be acquired through 3(?) methods. However, as Colin pointed out, you can do an assortment of activities to acquire the actual crafting materials (which, doesn’t seem to be the issue). In regards to most everything else, yeah, there are alternatives.

Here he was talking about grinding levels

One thing we are fighting hardest against is grind. We don’t want the player to ever have to grind and do something they don’t want to do to progress in the game.

There really isn’t any “grind” to leveling though. That’s the issue. Everything you do gives you experience. There are many options to leveling. Some are more expedient than others, but the option is still there.

Unfortunately this is a big kitten with any and all RPGs though, because they pretty much all require you to “level” in some way in order to move forward. (Not just talking MMOs here, its the same in console games too)

Hmm…. well, I spent 6 hours in SW today, just running around do events and gathering chests. Some people would consider “farming” the epitome of grind just due to it’s repetition. However, since I was neither bored, nor felt “forced” in a any way, it didn’t rank on my grind-o-meter personally. When I decided I was done, I stopped, and went about other things. At no point did I feel like I needed to absolutely be there for x, y, or z reason (which plays a big part in my feeling like something is ‘grindy’).

Yes “grind is grind.” There is; however a difference between “required” and “optional.” Some would go so far as to say a very big difference.

Now, that said. I will point out that all games have grind. To one extent or another. If you are looking for a game with absolutely no grind, an MMO is not what you’re looking for. Even GW1 had grind. Both required and optional.

Specializations require the xpac purchase.
Masteries require the xpac purchase.
Revenent requires the purchase.
Any future living story releases will require the xpac purchase

The new WvW maps and PvP mode; however, do not. This is done to not split the playbase of these modes.

This has all been confirmed in the assorted blogs and PAX interviews (and we were discussing some of it in a different thread already)

Edit: As for what that means for “vanilla” players… not much really. Life should pretty much continue as per usual, except they’ll now see specialized classes and revenents joining in their parties.

I’ve seen nothing anywhere that stated this and would be surprised if that’s the case.

Not all mastery requires the xpac, only those who are part of certain region;

“With the launch of Heart of Thorns, there will be two Mastery regions: the Heart of Maguuma, encompassing all PvE zones that are part of the Heart of Thorns expansion, and the core Guild Wars 2 world, encompassing all PvE zones currently available in the game today….Some Mastery points will come from content that existing players may have already completed, and these Mastery points will be automatically awarded to you with the release of Heart of Thorns, allowing you to get started on your Mastery journey right away.”

Does it potentially require some people to go out of their way to complete them? Yes. However, does it limit the majority from achieving them if they choose to? No.

Sorry, but NO. The “buff” to achievement variety after the 1st daily revamp was “the middle ground” – it made a lot of people happy and generated “thank you” threads. What did the new “middle ground” generate? 60 page and 3000 posts of various raging – see above.

And I’ve also seen plenty of people that like it, and others like myself that are just sort of ‘meh’. You made my point for me. No matter what they do, someone somewhere is going to unhappy with it.

Does something have to have gone wrong for him to leave?

I mean, I’m looking at leaving my job at the moment and it’s not really anything to do with the job, certainly not the work I’m doing currently or have done in the last few months. I’d be a bit freaked out if once I hand in my notice our clients started speculating on which of my projects caused me to leave and whether I was angry about it or forced out.

Not necessarily. Based solely in my observation, he is a strong supporter of Living World and now that ArenaNet (or maybe NCSoft) decided that they will be releasing expansions, he probably didn’t want to support that decision.

For example, when two companies merge, there will be employees that do not support that decision and consequently leave their jobs. So in my opinion, based on his support in Living World, he might have decided that he wants to work for a company with the same vision as his.

If they were doing away with LW completely, I could see him taking that stance. However, recent interviews with Colin from PAX make it sound like they are planning on doing both. Using LS to lead up to / set the stage for the expansions. As a medium for ‘continued’ content between expansion chunks. So… who knows.

Alright going to actually throw my 2c in here.

On one hand you have those people that feel dailies should come ‘naturally.’ They should simply be achieved or occur as you play through the game however you like. This requires very generic dailies. Kill 10 rats, so to speak.

On the other hand, you have people that will argue that those ‘generic achievements’ are not achievements at all. Achievements require some ‘additional’ effort on the players part. These people prefer the more specific achievements. Kill ‘x’ boss for example.

Going further, there are those that feel there should a lot of effort required. Craft an ascended item for example or successfully kill ‘x’ head of the 3 headed wurm, to make it an “actual achievement.” However, this would severely limit (I think) a lot of people.

No matter how they broach it, someone if going to be unhappy. What we have currently is a fine middle ground. While the dailies do require some effort, they aren’t insanely hard to complete. Does it potentially require some people to go out of their way to complete them? Yes. However, does it limit the majority from achieving them if they choose to? No.

Considering how quickly levels 1 through 15 go now (with the NPE change), I can’t really see the gripe. Doing the first 4 (or is it 5) hearts in the NW corner of QD will get you to level 6 or 7. I’ve had that take as little as 10 minutes (I was in hurry) or as much as half an hour (was goofing off with friends).

OP grinding mobs is not the way to go. No wonder you were bored senseless. GW2 is not that game, mob killing is not the ideal means of leveling.

I’m not even going to get into it regarding other components of the NPE. Not all of it is horrible, but I’ve expressed my 2c on it many times before.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

To find who is Chosen, they should have a GM in white armor parade around the game zones followed by a giant Eye encased in a transparent Prism that zaps nearby players with a laser. The players that don’t get knocked down are rounded up and herded into the new HoT zone…

I see what you did there!

I’d like to get into beta, but I highly doubt I will. Originally I signed up with my primary email, which is not the email used for the game. I opted to re-signup for the newsletter with my game email lol, since they were taking active accounts into consideration.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Donari is correct. No price has been announced as yet. Nor has it been announced whether or not we’ll be able to purchase the expansion by converting gold to gems. (I know some people are banking on this and are buying gems currently to stock up lol). Personally I figure it’ll be right around 40$ – ish.

As for what’s locked and what’s not after the expansion, here’s what I know thus far:

  • The base game will still be available to play. The new content is not mandatory to continue playing it.
  • Specializations will only be available to those that purchase the expansion
  • Revenent will only be availalbe to those that purchase the expansion
  • Mastieries are also only available to those that purchase the expansion
  • New chapters of the Living World will also be locked behind the purchase of the expansion (youtube interview, with MattVisual I think. Will reverify)
  • Stronghold and new WvW borderland will not be locked behind the expansion purchase. (To not split the playerbase for those play modes)

All correct except Masteries, only the Maguuma one will be out of reach, the “old tyria” ones will be available and usable.

That would make sense, anf I wouldn’t mind it, but I hadn’t heard it. (Doesn’t mean it wasn’t clarified and I missed it) All I heard / caught that where masteries were locked behind the expansion and that masteries would exist for the core game, not just the jungle. Did they clarify somewhere (or did I just misinterpret)?

I ask, because the info I have comes from the mastery news post:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/reimagining-progression-the-mastery-system/

The ability to train Masteries is unlocked at level 80 for all players that own Heart of Thorns.

Edit: lol Diovid, I didn’t even see your post.

If you could link the videos once you verify I wouldn’t mind seeing them as I clearly missed them.

The only thing I read was specializations, the revnant class, and the new PvE zone would be locked. I didn’t read masteries would be locked, only those associated with the jungle? I also didn’t hear about any future living story content one way or the other.

It seems odd to block more than the jungle, the new class, and specializations though. They’ll divide up the content too much beyond that.

Sure, I’ll link ‘em when I find them again. I’ve gone back through the MV interview, not the right one, but I’m not surprised. I’ve been devouring pretty much all the HoT info I could find. Sometimes it gets difficult to remember where the specific snippet comes from. XD

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

LA Conversation

So I was hanging out in LA this morning and I heard a conversation that I hadn’t before, between Magnus, Keil, Hero Tron, and Gnashblade. It’s on a loop so I was able to catch the whole thing (took notice of the end of it to begin with). Not sure how long its been there, but I found it interesting, and thought I might share for others that might not have caught it. (I don’t remember hearing it the last time I was in LA).

It paints Evon in a very interesting light. I find I don’t take too kindly to him blackmailing our little Hero Tron.

I agree with Kousetsu.

“Moto” was not an NPC at launch. SAB came after the fact. If the OP is indeed a pre-launch purchaser and registered that name prior to SAB’s release, he is not at fault here.

OP, I would recommend you contact support and argue your case.

You honestly aren’t bothered by the idea of living your whole life as a complete nobody? Because that’s one of the major driving forces behind my goals in life. Normalcy is the unfortunate consequence of a world with limited resources, and so “normals” are nothing but pawns in the money-making machines of the rich, living their whole lives by the standards set forth by the very people who stand to make money taking advantage of it.

I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with being considerably “normal” (although everybody is different in their own way), but the lack of a desire to avoid that is odd to me.

Nope, not bothered at all. I’m one of those people that just wants to go about their business and be left alone. Oh don’t get me wrong, I strive to excel in my chosen career path (it earns me more money to do so), but I have absolutely no desire for the limelight. I’m not big on being the center of attention.

On topic: those wings are gross and literally half the people playing right now have them. I move that everybody reading this adopt a policy of saying “NICE WINGS” in ‘say’ chat to everyone they see wearing them.

See, I like the wings, which goes back to my general ‘I really dont give a rat’s what others think’ stance lol. I haven’t quite found the perfect set up to pair them with, but I haven’t had much time to play this week either.

its human nature to want to be different

Apparently I’m broken, because that phrase really doesn’t apply to me. I don’t really give a rat’s kitten if I’m ‘different.’ I don’t have any particular desire to ‘stand out in the crowd’ (it tends to make one a target). Conversely I don’t have any driving to desire to conform either.
