i totally get where you are coming from and respect your opinion. my main issue is that if they weren’t going to do templates then they shouldn’t have merged the queues. they shouldn’t merge modes regardless, but doing so and then omitting templates on top of it just compounds the issue in my opinion.

I get why they only have the one queue. Looking back at the multiple queues for the assorted pvp types in GW1, I do get why they did it.

I understand you’re gripe too. Sometimes I feel the same way when I’m set for conquest and I get stuck in courtyard, and sometimes that 60 or so seconds before the match starts doesn’t feel like enough time to get things swapped. However, I honestly don’t think the addition of Stronghold is going to compound the issue as much as you think it will. Of course, I could be wrong.

To me, it’s not as big a deal. Considering how long I played GW1 RA / JQ / FA prior to templates, and the whole crap shoot of hoping what you built would work with your team set up…GW2 is really not so bad in comparison lol.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

This needs to be higher priority then say, dye pannel…

I think you guys need to take a step back and considering the amount of work that these types of things entails. The dye panel modification requires from front end UI modification, and additional data pulled from the database. It’s distinctly simpler to do than build templates.

Templates are going to require database objects, back end coding to handle those crud operations and the associated affects they have on the character, front end coding to handle the new feature, as well as the graphic creation to go with the front end code. It’s a heck of a lot more work, not to mention more people involved.

Build templates are a big deal in my opinion. They dropped the ball on this in a big way. We’ve been talking about wanting them for a long time.

I understand the dislike of manually swapping builds before a pvp match, we do it now (to some extent) if we end up with courtyard as opposed to a conquest map. I’d like to have build templates too, but it’s not the end of the world that we don’t.

As Colin stated, they have priorities. As a company, that’s their prerogative. We don’t have to like it necessarily. We don’t even have to agree with them, but we lack a significant amount of data which is used in determining what they decide are priorities.

As I said before, only so much can be developed in an allotted amount of time. They have talked about a whole new region, whole new story, 4 work intensive new systems, a new pvp game mode, precursor crafting / scavanger hunt, a new class, revamping the trait system (yet again), and a bit more. Which of those would you have preferred to have been dropped so that your desire could be fulfilled? I’m sure while you’d prefer templates over ‘x’ feature, someone else would prefer that feature over your templates, or even something else entirely (dueling? marriage? personal housing? wow 3.0?) .

They cannot please everyone, nor can they do it all ‘right now.’ Be content knowing that it’s on their to do list. Colin could have just as easily have said they weren’t doing them at all.

Templates would be a handy convenience item; however, I’m actually not let down by Colin’s statements at all.

They aren’t working on them currently, but they’re aware they would be nice / good to have. It’s something they want to do, but the expansion is the priority for them. I can respect that they have priorities and that only so much development can be achieved over a given amount of time.

The god ‘armors’ where costumes in GW1 previously. I am not surprised to see them come back as such in GW2 (and I like the job they did on Balth this time around so much better).

Now, I’m not against having more armors in the game. However, I can see how this would be a pain in the kitten to convert into an armor with their current armor weight / mesh set ups.

Beyond that, turning it into an armor could potentially lock it to a single armor weight as well as introduce a whole crap load of clipping issues (with other armors, with the assorted races, so forth and so on).

If they did create the 6 as actual armors, I honestly feel they should be limited only to humans. They could use it as a new cultural of sorts, I suppose. They’d need to find something comparable for the other races though.

Boss Wyvern too easy?

1) How can you judge it’s too easy when you haven’t tried it? Let’s get a few more opinions from those that attend the events coming up, since this boss is a part of the 40 minute demo.

2) Several of people that attended the recent press event have commented that they considered it challenging. That it was more than a stand and spam 1 type of fight. Since they actually got a chance to fight it (vs just watching it and making assumptions), I’m going to take their opinion into consideration.

3) The comment has been made that this boss is merely the tip of the iceberg.

Personally, given all of that, I’m going to reserve judgement until I can beat on the thing myself. But that’s just my 2c

No, not really. I’m only expecting between 4 to 6 maps in the new region, and if they are as content dense as (or more so than) DT/SW, that should keep me entertained for quite some time.

I have the distinct impression we’re no where close to release, so they might not have the number finalized yet. Content development (hell, devleopment in general) takes a lot of time and effort, lots of iterating and testing. That’s perfectly ok with me. When they figure it out, they’ll let us know. In the mean time, I’m not going to get my panties in a bunch over it.

Complete write-up of demo masteries

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189

LanfearShadowflame.3189

Interesting, seems like Masteries are mostly just a disguised “attunment” system.

Raid attunements were always the worst part of raids, sad to see them making a comeback into GW2. Locking content behind attunment walls just leaves people behind, and separates players into two groups.

They will eventually be nerfed because group one will quickly obtain the attunments and think the content is too easy, while group two will be composed of mostly casuals who can not complete the content and complain it must be nerfed.

and suppose certain levels are easy to get? for instance the lost coins/badges achievement was really easy to blast through the first few tiers, and then had a steady pace afterward. i imagine the racial masteries will be similar, with people getting to the middle ground while the more dedicated will actually reach the end. (not necessarily hardcore, casual players can just dedicate to one line for a while if they wanted to.)

Exalted – the artist formerly known as Mursaat. XD (my friends comment btw)

A mastery point is a mastery point. You don’t advance specific lines, you just earn points and then spend them on whatever you want. Dulfy’s write up has the number of points needed for each line.

For example you will need to have 8 mastery points invested in to the Exalted faction in order to be able to damage boss Morden. This means that until you invest those 8 mastery points you absolutely can not progress and kill certain things in the expansion.

For the Itzel faction, you will need to invest an impressive 39 mastery points in order to pull down Wyverns from the sky to fight. This means that at least one person in a group MUST have this if the group wants to fight a Wyvern. What this means is that this will become a requirement to join groups, because if you don’t have it then you will be considered a “noob” not worth carrying.

It could work out to be ok if mastery points are easy to get, or they are only needed for a few open world encounters. But if they are tied to any new dungeons/raids/story content, then I suspect they will become a problem.

There is a limited number of ways to artificially produce the feeling of ‘progression’ in a video game. I guess I prefer this to chasing bigger stat numbers personally. Still though, this is no different than GW1 ‘LF R8+ Ursan’ ‘GLF 1 more, R8+ lB’ ‘GLF E/Mo, must have max BSoW’ etc etc.

Why am I forced to switch server?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I have World Completion on 1 character, and sadly I did pay for a server transfer to achieve it. I needed just a couple of points, but no matter how long I waited, my (at the time) t8 server just couldn’t seem to do it (during my available play time). So i paid to swap up to a t4 server. I got my map completion that way.

Sadly, within a month of swapping the active wvw community on that server abandoned it to swap up to a t2 server. That t4 server is now t7 and falling. So, I suppose if I want to do map completion ever again, I’ll have to pay for yet another transfer. How lovely. sigh

(also i run soldier rings, captain’s amulet because i want some survivability as well)

i have played this game for about 3 months and have never met someone who picks on others based on their builds, i guess i’m just lucky

Ah, I see. I don’t run into a ton of kittens in the game (been here since beta myself), though admittedly I have come across a few where killing them would probably have been an act of charity to society. BUT, murder is still illegal…. so, the best I could do was ignore them.

I get what you’re saying about wanting to know best rotation, traits, gear etc. A lot of the math and such has been done by the community (and boy will some of them harp on how numbers dont lie), so the info (if you feel like browsing it) might be out there. I’m not blaming the tool. It’s not the tool’s fault, as it is neither good nor bad in and of itself. I agree that the problem is people. Sadly if it can be abused or exploited, it will be. Sure maybe not be you, or by random person ‘x’, but it really only takes a small few to screw it up for everyone. To make something benign into something toxic and corrosive to the community’s well being.

When we give cars to people, a few of them will be stupid enough to drive drunk and cause accidents, let’s solve the problem by taking cars away from everybody

There’s a drastic difference between real life and a video game. Using the privileged of driving may not be the best example.

However, there is quite a bit of red tape to go through to get a license to drive to begin with. Part of that red tape is testing that you understand the rules of driving (which include not drinking and driving), but as you point out not everyone follows the rules. There is no ‘red tape’ for this type of tool. Every moron and kitten automatically has access to it.

Why do people blame the tool when it is misused?.. Do you blame video games when someone plays it and then decide to go on a rampage in real life like what the fox news tries to portray?…. No, the blame is placed upon the person who is doing the wrong, just like if someone uses the dps meter for something toxic, he should be accountable for himself alone, the entire tool shouldn’t be to blame considering it has many beneficial uses.

Bank space is worse than F2P games

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

LanfearShadowflame.3189

Well this thread has been a wonderful chuckle on a stressful day, lemme tell ya.

My first response to the OPs “not enough bank space” whine was “huh?” followed pretty by quickly, “glad he never played GW1, cause in the beginning, he’d have had a heart attack” (and probably a second one when they started offering tabs for sale)

I’ve played several F2P games (as sad as I am to admit to that), in my opinion GW2 storage is far…far from worse. Now, yes, if you are a dedicated horded (which is sounds like the OP is) one tab of 30 slots aint gonna do it, but that’s not Anets fault. At least they offer the ability to purchase extra slots. We also have the mule (alt) option previously mentioned in the thread, as well as creating your own personal guild for the guild vault space.

Now, if you horde so much that you fill up 4 alts, a personal guild vault, and the default bank space…you really have no room to complain.

I’ll never, ever use this feature, due to how nauseated I get trying to play anything in first person view. But I guess hooray for those who actually wanted it!

I have the same problem with FPV. It makes me sad I can’t play any of the Bioshock games. However, all that other stuff is going to really help with the motion sickness I get from other types of play, where the camera is zooming in and out like it’s on a slinky, or I get turned upside down in tight quarters during Boss fights because so much stuff is going on and squished into a tight space. Also Jumping Puzzles! I currently have a very difficult time with most JPs because of motion sickness. Being able to fine tune my camera and adjust it from doing all that jittering if a leaf happens to be in my face? NOT getting sick is going to help a LOT, lol.

Thanks ANET!!!

I’m right there with you guys. I can’t play anything that requires first person perspective due to motion sickness. I tend to take Dramamine if I’m going to even attempt a jumping puzzle because of all the automatic zooming in and out.

On the other hand, this will be very nice for taking some scenic screenies.

Racial Tensions (race specific skills)

I understand that, and I also dont want the a specific race/class combination to be superior (asura ele >sylvari ele). But I also feel like a little room could be made for some improvement on these skills without making them requirements for certain classes. They could just be another opportunity for build/character customization, and provide an opportunity for players to become even more attached to their character.

I won’t argue that they could use tweaking, but that’s a very fine line to tread for the people doing balance. I’m sure it’s just easier to make them slightly sub-par so they don’t run into that issue.

Still, I’d rather they keep addressing the existing profession based skills first, and new skills that may be coming, over tweaking the racials. But that’s just my preference.

On the trait acquisition rework for HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

LanfearShadowflame.3189

Highly unlikely we’ll see refunds for gold spent. Nor should we, imo. They didn’t refund trait books when they phased those out either. So, in a sense, the precedent is already set.

As a disclaimer, I’ve spent very little on the new system. As a liberal estimate, I’d say 10g, tops. It matters very little to me.

That said, this is not in the same league as the trait manuals at all. Trait manuals had a total value of just over 3g per character to unlock all traits. Under the current system, you could spend up to 43 gold and 360 skill points per character, if you were so inclined. No doubt there are some players who have done so, and they would have every right to be furious if that much gold and that many skill points were suddenly invalidated.

Oh I’m sure there are many that have done so; however, that was their choice to make too. They could have gone out into the world and done at least part of the assorted tasks to reduce that cost.

Beyond that, it’s not like they didn’t get something for that cost. They have the use of the trait they desired. If they want a refund for that trait, then it should be removed and they should have to reacquire it under whatever the new method may be. Seems only fair from my perspective.

I’m not sure how much gold I’ve spent on traits personally. I’ve bought several, including a couple of the new grand master. I’ve also gone out and ‘earned’ several through the current acquisition method. I didn’t really keep track which ones came from where on which characters. shrug It wasn’t important.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Highly unlikely we’ll see refunds for gold spent. Nor should we, imo. They didn’t refund trait books when they phased those out either. So, in a sense, the precedent is already set.

it would still be hysterical to receive a letter in the mail ‘regarding the lawsuit against skill trainers worldwide’

Oh yes, that would be hilarious…

Although, we could still see something like that and still not get a single copper back.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Well they could make Bloodstone Bricks more useful and require you to physically contribute these to the building of your guild hall. 100,000 for a tower.. <Evil Laugh>

Someone should swat you with something hard for that.

Just for that, I’m going to be out there within minutes of launch (however long it takes to install, create, and boost to 80).

Getting to Know Your Fellow Posters Thread

Hmmm… I have a love / hate relationship with these types of threads. I love reading them; I hate contributing to them. What can I say? I hate talking about me. Let’s see what I can come up with…

  • 31, female
  • Met my husband online back in 1999, happily married in 2010, and celebrated 15 years together this past January.
  • Joined the GW community when Factions launched in 2006
  • Avid reader, I own more than 4500 books. Mostly fantasy, with a smattering of sci fi and romance. Some of my favorites include The Black Company Chronicles by Glen Cook, The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, and The Black Jewels series by Anne Bishop
  • I don’t have “a” favorite movie. I have a “current” favorite, but it changes quite regularly. Presently the current favorite is ‘Frozen’ (what? it was adorable!)
  • I work full time, which significantly impacts how often I get to play. I’m a bit of a jack of all trades developer. I’ve done front end (ugh), I’ve done back end, but my real love is SQL. I currently have a SQL Developer role, which I’m enjoying.
  • Alt-o-holic. My husband’s account doubles as a secondary account for me. I had 4 accounts in GW1 (total of 44 or 45 characters across them); he’s limited me to 2 this time around. But I’m still up to like 30 characters. Most of which I’ve gotten to 80, but oddly I never take the time to really gear them at that point.

I’m sure there’s more, but this is getting….long-ish…

Comparison - How the new Class should be...

We know extremely little about the new class, even given the blog post. Perhaps we should actually see what makes it into the game, and see how it actually plays before we start screaming about how it “should” be.

Rehashing skills isn’t anything new either. Such rehashing exists between currently existing class as it stands. There’s actually only so many options when trying to make the classes share similar play options.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I like how some people seem to think they can do the devs’ jobs better. Feel free to go make your own game any day now….

They may introduce zone-specific skills – Skills that you can use only in Maguuma because they are relevant there.

Based on some of the comments made, I fully expect to see some of this in HoT.

Lol Astral, some of those names are awesome.

In answer to originially posted question though: Yes, I have 3 names picked out presently for Revenents. 1 human, 1 Sylvari, 1 Charr

Sometimes, I think I have too much free time to think about this stuff…

I think I participated in GvG…..maybe twice?… in my 7+ yr playing of GW1.

GvG seemed to be a very niche mode. Fun to watch though. Of course, I enjoyed watching HoH too. Couldn’t play it for beans, but I enjoyed watching.

Racial skills…. you mean like technobable and wolf form?

No, I don’t think we’ll start to see more emphasis on playing a certain race with a certain class (like one does in WoW). At least, I hope very strongly that we don’t.

One of the things I applauded about GW2 was the statement that while each race would have some racial skills, race was just skin deep. Just another cosmetic in a sense. I was really happy about that.
