I’m all for 2-H battle axes in the game (and I don’t even play warrior that much).
/yes please
sigh
As apparently happened with “promotions,” it seems that we have also forgotten what “hype” is. And people argue that humanity isn’t losing it’s intelligence…. ha.
“We celebrate the idiot
Pretend that we’re so into it
Dumb down our intelligence
Just to make us relevant
Sometimes it makes me think the world has gone officially insane”
“mere rework”
If I were the dev who had to rework the entire TP, which they did, I would slap you with a quaggan tail
not to be sarcastic or anything, I do appreciate the rework, in itself, but when it comes down to it, most of it is mere javascript. That certainly isnt rocket science.
“Mere javascript”
You really, really are clueless.

Off topic:
Well OP, while I understand (to a point) your frustration and what you’re driving at (and in some instances tend to hold similar views), if you kick the rats’ nest you need to expect to get bitten. Don’t start the fight if you aren’t willing to dig in and go the distance.
On topic:
I wouldn’t say that almost every post is about people not liking Anet. Many here like the game and the company, but yes there is a lot of negativity. Always is, but there is positivity here as well to balance some of it out. Not always the same voices on one side or the other either. Like a dance, the people shift depending on the topic. Sure, there are some that just are completely unhappy, and nothing that is done can make them happy, but they are few.
Any product purchase gives the purchaser the right to express their opinion; good, bad, or otherwise. To assume that people “paid once” is also not wise. As others have pointed out, they have also purchased gems in support of the game at one time or another. They are welcome to express their dissatisfaction just as much as someone is welcome to express their contentment with the game, so long as it’s done in a healthy, constructive manner. Beyond that, it is much more common for those that are discontent to voice their opinion than it is for those that are content, simply because the content ones are using their product. As such, you’ll notice that most reviews (for any product) tend to trend on the negative side. That’s just how people are. We typically only speak up when we are unhappy.
Side tangent: With all this little scavenger type hunts, does anyone else feel like they might be laying the ground work for something… bigger? Possibly reconditioning us for additional exploration? Cause I’m really starting to feel like this is all a set up for something….bigger.
No doubts about that they even mentioned it on the post.
The Future
This is certainly not the last you will be seeing of Item Collections. We have many more in the works, some that stand alone and some that are deeply tied to the Living World. We are very excited for this new system and what it will bring to the game going forward. We had a lot of fun designing and building it, and we hope you have as much fun playing it. So get out there, explore the world, and find that last piece of loot!
Lol…not what I meant. Of course they are going to continue to build on this new system via LS. That’s a given. Think bigger.
(…) Meh, I’ve lost count.
Good news, not keeping count shows a relaxed lassez faire mindset that it clearly not that of an addict.
Oh good. I was worried. XD
I am not an addict, and I have 3 level 80’s what does that say?
Playing the devils advocate here I’d have to say it says we’re probably looking at a case of denial.
Hello, I am Rouven, I have 8x 80’s and I am not an addict.
Oh well… if number of 80s is the criteria here….
I have 16 level 80s, 25 total characters…or is it 26 now? Meh, I’ve lost count.
you know I thought the blogpost spelled out ‘spoon’ as a filter, just like how kitten is.
But they are very serious about collecting spoons, it seems.
You know, I’ve seen several spoons at karma vendors… never bought any of them (cause as a trinket, their stats sort of suck), so I just find it sort of funny.
How much gems did these armor cost?
None
All of these were a part of GW1, in game and available to craft from the associated NPCs.
Hoarders rejoice lol.
I think many of us are
Dunno. There isn’t a set schedule for them at this time. Try 5-6 months I guess.
It may also mean that pretty much everything will become more expensive now. Let’s take the example of the spirit back item … sounds to me like you have to craft weapons like foefire’s. We should also see more demand in every level of crafted armour. Unless it’s pretty much already unlocked for every one, but even then you might not have bothered crafting a green set at level 40 back in the day.
blinks
I wonder if any of these will be tied to having a specific class? It sort of sounds like there should be some for every other aspect of the game – crafting, exploring, they specifically call out several for dedicated dungeon runners. Would make it… interesting.
I am liking this new reveal. Seems that this will be of interest to the Vet Players too.
And you all laughed at me for having all 450 of my Bank and Personal Guild Bank Full of worthless crap.I anticipate a new title: Grand Master Hoarder
Lol I’d be right there with you in regards to that title. So much kitten…. so not enough space…
Meh, Dulfy doesn’t do it alone. But yeah, I foresee lots of guide potential here.
I got a kick out of the spoon collecting. I almost fell out of my chair laughing. Coin collecting achievements. Now spoon collecting. What next Anet? Stamps?
Don’t forget unid Fossils
Oh, yeah. Forgot about those, and I just got my first one this past weekend. Hmmm…
Well there are those “bigger projects” being worked on behind the scenes that they won’t tell us anything about…
Tantalizing is it not?

Well of course!
I predict lot’s of running around. Do not jest about stamps! Great potential here, I got a rare Tybalt Apple Memorial stamp, trading for a Queen Jennah’s Anniversary edition.
No, no traditional stamps wouldn’t work. They’d have to do something different, like wax stamps/seals given the game setting and time period. Have to go hunt down nps and win their favor or some such, then they can give you their “stamp of approval” to further denote how much of a hero you are. And the npcs function like the Traveler, in that they move after a certain period of time and need to be refound, and what you need to do to win the stamp varies from location to location. Maybe in one spot you need to collect 5 grawl necklaces, or in another you have to beat them at arm wrestling, or blecher’s bluff. Let the games begin!

Not what I was expecting either, but so far its the only thing I’ve liked about the patch. Granted I don’t like the RNG aspect of some of it (“Other unlock items can be found on creatures and in chests throughout Tyria.”). But at least it will give me more things to go after.
It’s a good way to encourage people to go out and explore again though, and I know a lot of people have been asking for such an incentive.

Definitely not what I was expecting. Anyone else sort blink a few times while they read through today’s blog post? Edit: I’m not calling this bad, personally I find it quite interesting. Just…really wasn’t what I was expecting…

I guess being a pack rat might actually turn out to be a good thing for me. rofl
I want to know if I throw four minis into the forge, will those four minis unlock for me just like the way the armor/weapon wardrobe works now.
I haven’t seen anything that says one way or the other on how this will work.
Huh? I don’t Mystic Forge much. You are saying that if you throw unlocked armor and weapons they unlock into your wardrobe?
Makes sense, I suppose. It counts as destroying them, same as salvaging. Would be my best guess.
Well, news to me. Like I said, I don’t mystic forge much. Not after it stole all my gold (30 gold) back at launch, trying to make the eternal Princess Doll tonic. We haven’t been on speaking terms since then.
Edit: I said unlocked weapons/armor. I meant locked.
I don’t really use it often either. shrug

GW pvp has always been max level / max gear. Unlike other games where gear and level skew the game, GW pvp is tended to be equalized. Allowing for skill to be the determining factor, which I personally approve of. While it is not perfect, I find GW pvp to be much more enjoyable than say… WoW’s version. I do not think they need to change this aspect of it. More mode types, yes. But not that it is intended to be on equal footing.

Still though, here you have free range of the new map. You can play the story, so long as you group with someone that has it unlocked. Without purchasing a darn thing. You only “have” to purchase the story instances if you want the achievements and ‘progression’ credit. Not a huge deal.
Of course it’s a huge deal. Because . . . um . . . look, kitty!
Honestly, the LS story instances are so nicely divorced from the world, you pretty much can ignore the story and just fool around in Dry Top as it is revealed bit by bit.
lol
And that’s all some people want, which is fine. There are people that don’t care about the story, but still want zones to explore and fun mechanics to conquer. Dry Top is a start, and hopefully more comes for them, new zones are needed to breathe some life into the game for those people.
Then there are people like me that play for the lore, for the story components. I enjoy the LS, though it has it’s holes… it’s gaps, and I call them on it. I enjoy speculating, and wondering what will come next, where they will go.
The LS offers a little bit to appease both types.
I just logged in for the first time in over a year. I saw a new zone had opened up, and that past story was available (at-least S2)
I then saw it would cost me money to access old content everyone else received for free, then promptly uninstalled. It went against everything I thought GW2 was. I would just pay for a subscription game if I was interested in something like this.
So you would have preferred to not be able to access it at all? Because that was the case before they added the new system.
If you login during the time an episode is active (usually two weeks) you unlock it for free. If you don’t, you can pay 200 gems in order to unlock it accountwide for ever.
If you don’t want to pay, you can join someone else that have the episode unlocked and do it that way.
I’m guessing he promptly uninstalled Prophecies when Factions came out too. Or when WoW released Burning Crusade.
It’s the same gods be kitten ed concept.
Not even close to the same concept.
Actually is the same concept. It’s additional content. Period. This isn’t a debate of how much or how good, only what it is. Even with GW1 you had to purchase the additional content in order to access any of it. Anet stated before launch that they would eventually have additional content for purchase which would then be free to play for as long you’d like. This fits into that category.

I don’t think that it’s so much about people not desiring challenging or intelligent game play. Keep in mind that the people that had hours and hours to play such games a decade ago are now adults with families and jobs. They still enjoy gaming, but the games of a decade ago, the challenges implemented where time consuming. This is something that many responsible adults don’t really have a lot of in their busy, “always connected” lives.
I happen to be of that generation :-) There wasn’t any leveling in that time (no timegating), so you could right jump in the game. A massive TBS/ RTS like Rome Total war was less time consuming then guildwars 2 is now :-) But challenging on Hard mode playing as an underdog faction against the Romans.
Guess it depends on the game you were playing, but yes there wasn’t a metric ton of time gating then. You still had ‘leveling up’ in some games, and I don’t really see it being that much different then than now. It was tedious then too. So I guess that hasn’t changed much. But I get your general point somewhat. I never played Rome Total War, so I can’t compare that one. Still, the RTS genre is not quite the same as an RPG.
But not enough to keep me playing.
I’ve been playing since release. 2 years now. I’ve been an avid supporter of this game since forever. Spent more money than I care to think about. And while living story has temporarily changed or modified some of the zones we’ve been staring at for the past 2 years, and added a whopping one (southsun), I need something fresh and new.
Dry Top was neat – but it was and still is being released so slowly that I’m already burnt out on going to that zone. WvW hasn’t changed except for one new map that’s a giant yawn fest. And PvP hasn’t changed, save rewards. Same maps. For 2 years. (except the one everyone hates)
An MMO needs more substantial change, more frequently. This is the only MMO I’ve ever heard of that hasn’t released a major expansion in it’s first 2 years. With seemingly zero plans to do so in the near future.
Time for a break. This is my feedback.
You guys move more slowly than Blizzard does.
You do understand they said, they wanted to try something different? That is what they are doing. The problem with expansions is the original faults and bugs in the game, never really get fixed as the company moves onto the expansion.
A.net said 6 months into the game, no expansions. I don’t get what people don’t understand.
No, Dusty, they have never said that there wouldn’t be expansions. They simply said they didn’t know if they wanted to deliver it via living world, or a traditional box. That has been the stance since then. Nothing definitive either way, but they have never said “no expansions.”
Keep in mind that anet is a business, and they need to generate revenue. Doing something similar with the tools (though I have asked for such as well) negates all inclination to purchase another set as you don’t need it any longer. This affects their bottom line.
I think that the idea that someone might buy more than one set of tools is a bit exploitative of them, given their price. It would cost me $288 to fully gear out my characters like that, and I don’t think ANet could see that as a reasonable target. The existing prices are already plenty for account bound tools, $36 to fully deck out yur characters in tools is a reasonable amount by any measure.
And yet people do it, because they choose to. Zax has pointed out that he has several sets. Someone else has stated they also have several, although they purchased theirs via gold. I have 4 sets. My husband has 5. This is a convenience that they offer for purchase. It is no more exploitative than any other retail purchase out there.
Never, i found it as userfriendly as possible. It learns itself. I see a disturbing trend in games over the years where everything is toned down and timegated. Its counterchallenging, counterimmersive and counterinteligent.
Remember the time games where actualy challenging and emmersive? I do. The last decade they became more and more casual. People who want to play games but have no desire for challenge, immersion and intelligent gameplay. Only, look at my shinies.
Its not only in online rpgs but also in shooters, RTS, TBS etc. They used to be challenging and fun at the same time.

I don’t really think there are many complete gw1 sets I’d like to see, probably because I was very much into mixing and matching (spent well over 100k on monk armor before i got just the right mix for my “mint monk” for example).
Although, I suppose I could list the sets that I used components from that I liked. It’d probably be best if they added they whole ‘set’ rather than just the pieces I liked, as others will likely like other parts, if not the whole thing.
So, without further rambling, my GW1 preferences (there are many):

It’s been two years and he probably still couldn’t tell you wtf “blasting” is.
How about the difference between Launch and Knockback? Took me a while.
I’m not even sure I know without looking. I’m sure I can probably deduce the answer, but oddly I find it doesn’t matter much (at least to me). I do have enough sense to take note when skills call out that they are a specific type (lightning hammer 3 is a launch, longbow 4 is a knockback for example) and that bosses will usually have those specific immunities called out (where applicable, though not always). That’s about all I pay attention to.
I’ll be quite honest, my husband and I both had our issues when we started the game. Even having played the betas, there were things that he found confusing or didn’t understand. I understood more of it because I hung on every published blog, interview, etc like my life depended on it before launch, but there were still components that I really felt should have more explanation. Downed state was one of them. Oh sure, he and I caught on quickly enough, (I managed quicker than him, but like I’ve said before, I’d read about it, watched the youtube previews of it, etc) but we really did just fly by the seat of our pants for quite some time. It’s been two years and he probably still couldn’t tell you wtf “blasting” is.
Hmmm expansion…. hmmmm…
More levels? Absolutely not.
More skills? Yes please.
More zones? Oh yes, absolutely!
Another class? Please no.
Another race? That might be fun, sure.
More gear? Skins only. No more stats. No more power creep!
A full story arc to throttle a dragon? Absolutely!
Heroes? Please!
More dungeons? Maybe, sort of meh
Uh…. Cantha!
The finisher change seems pointless. I really wish they would spend time and resources on meaningful changes/additions.
I don’t consider the finisher change to be pointless or a waste of resources. I, and at least 1 guildie, will appreciate being able to preview these in game. As opposed to having to go to dulfy.
If I recall correctly, outfits don’t currently cost transmute charges.
Well, with the price hikes, I feel sheepish for not having bought minis well before now.
Still, makes me reconsider if I “really need” some of the ones I have right now.
What? I’m a tad short on gold presently.
ahahahahahahahahaha
kitten , don’t we love greed?
I think you’re right on reimagingin collections, but I don’t think they’ll adjust the base stack size, as that goes against their gem store.
Maybe. Depends on how much they adjust it. Keep in mind that the change to the transmute system and skin unlocking impacted the gem store too. So, there is some precedent there.
Changing the base stack size wouldn’t negate their collection expanders though. It would just allow us to horde that much more. hehe.
I chuckled at this part of the blog. Considering my guildie just asked me last night if there was any way to preview finishers in the game, this should make her happy.
As some may know, I have been hacked 4 times now. The last time I have not been re-rolled. I lost all my minis bar the account bound ones. Will I have to buy all of these yet again or will they automatically be unlocked? The achievements I have gained from the mini unlocks still stand, even though I no longer have the minis themselves.
Yours might be a special case and I would suggest contacting support regarding it.
As it stands, based on the blog, if you don’t own the mini and then tell it to unlock (which destroys it), you aren’t going to get any credit for it. They don’t just unlock because you had something at some time or anything. Similarly to how skins didn’t just all unlock because you had them at some time or another.
Was this what Arena Net thought would be perfect for veteran players?
It’s just the first post of the week.
Still, a lot of people do like it. It is something we have asked and asked for.
Still, it not really a feature. It seems like all of this could have been added to the wardrobe when it was first released.
And judging by the names of the other two articles this week (Reimagining Collections and Trading 2.0) not much else is changing, other than some filtering stuff (at least with trading 2.0). All in all, I have no real joy/anticipation with this patch (yes I know they can’t please everyone all the time). All the stuff changed seem like minor “features”/QoL things. And this weeks articles was supposed to be more towards us veterans.
Granted at least we’re getting this stuff for free, that I appreciate.
They have classified “QoL” changes as something that belongs in a ‘feature’ patch, as its not ‘content’ per se. It is a revamp of an existing system, which technically makes it a ‘feature’ if you want to look at it that way.
Basically, all feature patches are going to contain things that pertain to game systems (wardrobe, minis, collections, combat, leveling, etc), as opposed to playable components (new maps, more story, new skills, etc). Playable components (ie content) are now part of the LS roll out.
what about the miniatur collector achievments? so u wont be able to get them now that u no longer can put pets into collectors tab? great
“New achievements will also now be available for completing Wardrobe account unlocks for the series 1, 2, and 3 minis.”
They old ones will probably just morph into these new ones and the old ones will go away. As they are essentially the same thing.
one question…
what happens if I have more copies of “account bound mini”?
You mean like a dozen mini Jennas? lol
I’ve wondered the same. I sort of doubt we’ll get an official response, but here’s to hoping.
Was this what Arena Net thought would be perfect for veteran players?

Still, a lot of people do like it. It is something we have asked and asked for.
There are only 3 posts this week. & by the looks of the titles they aren’t major features. I love this change, but seriously.. it’s a tiny “feature”.
I wonder how many ‘tiny’ features actually require an extensive amount of work on the back end. If it’s anything like my last project, some of it might surprise people.
Still, I think most of the things are tiny by themselves. If you take all of them into account though, there’s a significant amount of work there.
Well gonna toss my thoughts out there now.
Reimagining collections
Maybe some bank spots for things like blade shards, foxfire, etc. A “mystic forge” collection so to speak
An adjustment to the base stack size?
Trading 2.0
Maybe direct p2p trading?
As I just said in my thread in the General forum, asking them to put the gathering tool skins into something like this might be a bit much to ask of them.
Keep in mind that anet is a business, and they need to generate revenue. Doing something similar with the tools (though I have asked for such as well) negates all inclination to purchase another set as you don’t need it any longer. This affects their bottom line.

The gathering tools might be a bit much to ask of them. Something like this would remove any additional incentive to purchase more than one set, which isn’t good for their bottom line.

“Account-unlocked minis can be equipped and swapped as part of your character by left-clicking them. "
" When shown, minis will appear next to you in every map you travel to with no further work necessary to deploy them."
Anet does listen.
Much <3 here. Thank you!
The best way to fix a communication issue(which is totally what we have here) is to tell the truth. In one post you say that you need to change how the downed state works to make the game easier to understand for players and in this thread you contradict yourselves. Try honesty: “We are changing the way stuff drops in game because we need to adjust the market.”
The way it has been explained in this thread is insulting to our intelligence. Your actions(Item drop changes) don’t match up with your words(Change is coming! Get excited!/You won’t notice a change).
This change might very well be subtle. We don’t know how widely it will impact us as yet. We’ll have to wait and see.
“But why bother telling us if its so subtle as to not be widely noticed?’
Two words – “Stealth nerf!”
Someone will notice. Someone always does, and if nothing is said we’ll have people screaming “stealth nerf” all over again.
If it’s so subtle it could be noticed only as a stealth nerf, there’s no call for an entire blog post on this “feature”. It could just be listed in the patch notes. Nothing stealthy about that.
And I don’t necessarily disagree.
Obviously they felt otherwise, for whatever reason.
I kind of think people should overreact just a tad less until after they can experience the change first hand. If it is in fact subtle as Anet claims, then they’ll have stressed over nothing.
Oh, I’m with you on that aspect, for sure. I don’t buy into the whole “this will kill all professions that aren’t light!” hysteria. I don’t know what the implementation will look or feel like. But it certainly seems dishonest to hype this feature, and then claim we won’t notice anything different. That is the disconnect I’m having, here.
See, I didn’t consider the single paragraph in the blog post regarding this feature to be hype. It was more of an informative “this is also coming” foot note. It’s 3 sentences. That is far from hype in my book.
It was a third of that day’s entire blog post. It had its own heading in bold type. That may not seem like hype to you, but I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.
Yes, we’ll have to. I tend to ascribe to the typical definition of “hype” which is “excessive publicity” and/or “exaggerated or extravagant claims” of which, that was neither. Sure, the publicized it, but that’s just communication.
shrug
Even if each region offered something specific that you could only get via this currency, it still wouldn’t solve your issue. People would convert via the currency exchange, wait for it to put on the TP if it were tradable, or simply find the most efficient speed clear option. It’d be no different than dungeons or karma trains, where people only run a specific path and leave the rest to rot.
I think that can be countered by creating new types of loot.
New armorskins are one aspect of this, armor with stats that are slightly better than their counterparts level-wise could be another. Those items shouldn’t be traded obviously. Getting gold by exchanging a local currency should also still be a huge driving facor. The exchange rate of each currency can be influenced, so that lesser exchanged currencies grant more gold.
It’s plausible. New armor skins might drive people back to certain regions, and I would make them regional currecnies over map specific. Region specific armors aren’t something I’m opposed to, considering I’ve been asking for more armors in game for months now.
I didn’t get through all of the OPs post.
Some ground telegraphs for some of the bosses might not be a bad idea.
Another option for certain boss attacks might also be an icon over your character’s head, something akin to maw’s mechanic.
Different things work for different people. I know when there are a lot of people and effects, I still sometimes miss some of the new (very bright) ground targeting warnings.
