No, but it shows how much someone spends on the game. Obviously high achievements doesn’t mean you’re good at the game pvp wise, you could get it all from pve. On the other hand, you can assume someone who has 150 AP won’t have any clue about the game unless it’s a alt account since you get tons AP from pvp, too. I have even more than this on my alt accounts and all I do is pvp there and I haven’t really spent much game time on that account, so yes you can assume these players are clueless.

there is something called alt accounts, go look up what ALT means. I am not disputing the possibility that he is a new player but I am saying there is a possibility said player isn’t new either.

10 dollar accounts are cheap.

Or maybe you read before you post, I even mentioned alt accounts in my original post, stop trying to be a smartkitten.

Everyone seems to think they have the formula, i’m 16 wins 1 loss on solo join. I play defense every game… me+pugs have beat multiple guild premades because they went 4 rush on door. Too many factors are involved including communication and player skill to say “do this and win every time”.

Defenders need dps too ya know ^^

Doesn’t take that much DPS to bring down Zerkers.

Of course not, but they, unlike you apparently, will dodge.

The matchmaking seems very unbalanced. I will be on a team, and myself and the others on my team have a similar amount of points, but the opposing team are always better, so I seem to be on the losing side 80% of the time, as it seems to be those not so experienced at PVP against more experienced players.

Points you get in pvp says completely nothing about your experience, but yeah matchmaking is pretty bad at the moment.

Why does a 20 seconds DC count as a loss??

If you are gone for a match longer than a combined 30 or 40 seconds (ie two 20 second disconnects) you get a loss. I am not sure why this is in the game but it is, it may have something to do with stopping players from constantly swapping characters or something I do not know.

I believe it was implemented because they planned to introduce class specific MMR and not want people to be able to switch characters, affecting their matches and basically cheating with their MMR. But since EU pvp serves can be kitten and players kept DCing constantly, they added a grace period, meaning you can DC or swap classes but only if you do it in certain time. (Thought, it was 1 min 20 sec, though.)

I’m pretty sure it had something to do with players leaving the game early, too. It’s not a very good solution, though. You get an underserved loss which is pretty discouraging. On the other hand, matchmaking and leaderboards are at a pretty bad condition atm and they need to change that before this imo.

For me the map was in a team + teamspeak a lot of fun. We could coordinate where to go and who does what etc.

In soloQ it was terrible. Without any communication i couldnt really enjoy the map. Everyone was just running around doing .. whatever. Even if people get more experienced in thise gamemode in my opinion u need to be able to tell ur teammates whats npcs u shall spawn etc.

what sticked out for me was, that like really everyone ran a super tanky build. It was a bit annoying to see warriors and guards with settlers amulets just trying to get supps, not using one skill but heal and stability. they played more the PvE part of this gamemode.

I can’t say I saw many tanky specs but maybe I wasn’t paying too much attention to it after all. I felt like there were more thieves, mesmers and dps specs than in conquest. It all makes sense, the map does favour zerker specs. On the other hand the number of condi mesmers I’ve met on Stronghold is pretty disgusting.

But I definitely agree with you, it’s way way way way less fun if you queue solo, hence why I think this map will be unviable for pugs.

Please bring Stronghold back!

I’m super glad there are new things coming into gw2 pvp, on the other hand Stronghold has MANY problems at the moment. Yes, you can play the map to maximize all the pvp elements, however the most EFFECTIVE way to play it is just taking down the lord alone which brings you zero to little pvp experience. Sadly, unless this gets modified, it will never be able to compete with conquest because people will do what’s best in their interest. A fast win, move on to another. It’s how things are in all games.

Another issue is that Stronghold makes the gap between pugs and premade even higher and solo players will probably get frustrated with the map after some time.

I had fun playing Stronghold but I must say that it’s probably because it’s new. I like the aspect of not having to defend/cap points and can engage in fights with real players. However, that’s not how you win. You can already see it, people rush supplies, channel heroes and push lord. If both teams do this, then it’s just a matter of time, who can take down npc’s faster. If this is not reworked, it’ll just be an pvp mode where killing npc’s faster rewards you. That should be changed.

There are lots issues not connected to this, too. Channelling heroes is pretty akward at the moment, there’s no way to counter high stability builds when you don’t have many cc to use. Also, the mist at the channel blocks your view so much, you can’t tell what enemies are doing. The gap between spawn and gates/lord is too big, too. The chamber the lord is at is too small leading to just messy fights, everything blocks your view. The way the lord is placed is much better at Legacy if you ask me.

There are so many ‘new player traps’ on Stronghold. Basically, all you need to take down all gates is ONE doorbreaker and keeping him alive. Archers are pretty useless and running supplies, too. Fighting at mid could be super fun, but it just slows you down.

There is no penalty for failing lord push, there is no penalty for failing lord defense. The fights can go on and on, people respawning, so it results in going to timer. With this, you can just have 4 players supporting your lord, while the 5th goes and kill enemy lord. It’s very possible and since the map is long (not saying big on purpose), between you getting the message ‘your lord is under attack’ and you coming back to your lord from enemy one, yours would be dead 10 times even if it was only ONE player trying to kill it.

So, glad there was something new but honestly, after all it all comes down to pve speed clear and who has more dps. They need to rework this map so it rewards players for playing well and punishes those who don’t. The lords need to get buffed quite a lot or players will be just sniping them with zerker specs in 10 seconds. They need to change the way gates get broken down. I mean really, it takes literally no time for one npc to kill the gate. They need to punish you for failing both lord push and defense. And lastly they should not allow for lord to be able to be killed by one fresh air ele.

You also seem to disregard the fact that you don’t even need to buy the expansion in order to play on the map.

Then the expansion includes literally no content for PvP players. That’s even worse…

Best case scenario: The new specializations are so bad that they are not relevant
Worst case scenario: The new specializations are so good that game is now P2W

I seriously don’t understand why people are bothered about bying the expansion as pvp players. Everyone is crying about pvp being stale but when they announce new specializations and proffesions, people are crying about having to spend money. GW2 is already b2p, they sure as hell shouldn’t be giving out xpack for free. Having 9 new specs and one new class to play in pvp is far from having no content for pvp players.

Some of the stuff you said can be higher level play too, which always has a chance to backfire.

1.) Decapoing and leaving. Sometimes is used to slow points but it takes a long time to cap so you re-assist your allies.
2.) Let downed players rally themselves. If done right, you can keep a player out of a match for a long time by making them think they can rally but interrupting it. It’s a bit of psychology to make it work and sometimes if you mess up (especially against a guardian or ranger) you can accidentally give them a rez.

The others might need more context, depends. May not always be trolling. However it’s always good to just ignore rage heads, maybe even block them. It’ll help your enjoyment in the long run.

In other words, you can’t ever let a ranger bleed out, it’s just a horrible mistake.

Uncapping and leaving is pretty normal, but I have a feeling OP is talking about something else. I’ve had a guy on my team who would 1v1 another player and when downed, he would let him ress, not cap the point and continue 1v1. This happened in ranked and shouldn’t be allowed.

After all, people should deserve to play ranked, not mindlessly spamming the button and then ruining games for everyone because they feel like trolling/never played pvp before.

And nor conquest. After all, I would still prefer playing conquest over tdm or Stronghold and we’ve had the same old maps since launch. It would be great if they actually added new maps for all modes in the future but I doubt that will happen.

There are already 8v8 custom arenas (that are mostly empty nowadays) so I wouldn’t be surprised if they did have some options for 8v8 stronghold matches.

Not really, there used to be bigger matches but they got rid of it because maps were too small. I don’t think Stronghold is that much bigger and I would definitely be against playing stronghold 10v10. It also makes it harder to balance teams and since Stronghold doesn’t really seem to favour soloq, it would be unplayable 10v10. It’s fun because it’s new but I can’t see myself enjoying it when queuing solo, you need the voice com for this. It’s also pretty frustrating when half of the pugs won’t bother defending lord, so 10v10 would be really horrible from this point of view.

The button is not deactivated, it’s just invisible and anyone with half a brain can set a shortcut for the panel and enter HotM anyway

No, didn’t mean this. People would still be able to join unranked and hotjoin but the community has asked from some restrictions for ranked queue. They said they would so something about it a few months ago, but still hasn’t happened.

I think the scoring is still based off the normal PvP (i.e kill player + stop = 15 points) I think something needs to be done to the scoring on Stronghold.

Maybe something like 100 points per gate? – that way its meaningful to defend against it and push it at the same time?.

As it is, right now its whoever can zerg fastest with the first 5 bombs, or zerg around which normally wins. Defense is lacking in every game i’ve been on.

- side note : at least in Moba’s the npc’s are on the same lane so you are forced to defend and attack.

Then they need to actually give the gates some more hp or tone down the doorbreakers, a single one of them can take a gate down in 5 seconds.

only really braindead build is phantasam mesmer imo. hate the stupid dps and instant 6+ bleeds. killed a guildie today (she is a solid cele cele) without even attacking her. just ran around cloaking and summoning. it’s the only build I actually loathe, and no you can’t have it. it’s too disgusting.

also beat a really good warrior with it in 1v1, and i can hardly even play mesmer. carried by stealth and ai.

Yeah, because turret engi is so different. Let me tell you a secret, it’s not.

Also, everyone in this game knows the build but they don’t run it. Wanna know why? You might think about it a bit more.

I was kind of expecting the NPCs to be a delaying factor and they seemed to fit that role.

Can the lord be soloed, I am sure, but everyone I saw that tried died. Add in a defender and didn’t see any walk away.

So if we are seeing mixed results, that means the starting value isn’t in a bad place. I also saw players drop from archer fire when they completely ignored them, was it from solo fire, no, but the NPCs did drop them. Didn’t get a chance to check damage logs across various armor classes and builds so don’t have any details on power levels.

Man, if they really died to this lord that deals almost no damage, I don’t understand how people like that can fight other players. Honestly, if you’re 1v1 or alone at enemy lord, there’s basically nothing to stop you other than losing your 1v1. Every class can take him down, even though some classes are better suited for it.

If you’re the only target for bunch of archers, it can hurt, yeah.

Going round and round on this. The lord and guards balance seem pretty good in 5v5. If the numbers were increased then I think they would need to be as well. That said before trying a 10v10 I wouldn’t mind seeing a 6v6 or 8v8 version.

Eh I would say the lord and guards seem quite week for 5v5.

Half or more of the classes can easily go in and solo the lord in a matter of seconds.

Not to mention the archers are completely useless.

Definitely. I wouldn’t say half but all class can go and solo it. It’s really an issue when people queue solo. The lord at least needs some buff, archers actually do more damage than him.

As a squishy ele you won’t be able to cap the hero. I don’t understand how sitting in water would help.

It’s easy (and I capped it a bit); passive heal to ensure health stays above the threshold long enough to cap. Even with two people cleaving away it was pretty simple to do. As more skilled players try the map it could change but the point still remains that capping is far too simple to do because there are too few ways to stop the channel. If you’re hit, channel should end. Period.

ETA: I see you mentioned the same later in the thread – my bad!

Yeah, I do agree with you on getting interrupted on hit but if you’re really running squishy ele meaning you have zerker amulet equiped, a thief will be able to kill you 5 times before you end the channel.

The purpose of defence is essentially to buy you time for your offence. Remember that the primary objective of this mode is to kill the enemy lord.

Scenario #1: 5 of the enemy players are in your base and being successfully held back by 3 people while 2 of you are killing their lord uncontested.

Scenario #2: A large team fight occurs in your base (3v3+) which you are able to win. Having 3+ of them down allows you to assume control of the whole map and run supplies, channel heros and advance your offensive uncontested before they can respond.

Yeah, then they should make the lord actually have some decent hp and attacks. It’s sad how easy he can be soloed by anything, no interrupt in downstate…is this really rewarding you 500 points? And since people have no defending awareness, you’re pretty much free to kill the lord if you like alone.

:O Have you killed the lord by yourself and won? They aren’t faceroll targets. They are hard to kill.

Well, yeah. I honestly thought the npc will be a bit harder to kill. But after pugging some games and getting pretty frustrated I ran supplies by myself, I killed guards by myself and while 4 players from enemy team were trying to kill our lord, I decided to go for it and I killed theirs while rest of my team was defending. I was also surprised how easily the lord went down, it took probably around 30 seconds and I had to kill a thief twice during. Hence why I think the npc really needs to get buffed. I was on fresh air and he didn’t even get me close to dying, so I believe that if you’re going to pug this will happen quite often and sort of ruin the mode for people who don’t play in teams.

Just had a game against some people from your party and honestly? Pugs just won’t react. They run around like headless chickens and won’t defend the lord even if their lives depended on it. It’s pretty sad, though. I believe this wouldn’t happen if you faced organized teams and not pugs.

I do feel that Stronghold favors those that have strong AoE buffs, so primarily Guardian, Warrior, and Elementalist, simply because they have the easiest time keeping the NPC’s alive. Without the constraints of capture points, AoE debuffs and damage is much weaker than in conquest.

I disagree, I feel like zerker specs are favoured, not support. There is no need to run support specs since there’s no point holding, many ways to LOS and killing stuff faster is an advantage. You probably take on support class, though, but I do feel like aoe burst specs have better time on stronghold.

Anyone try turret engi on defense yet? It’s hilarious. Set up your turrets in a spread out formation (to avoid AOE cleave) and sit near the gate with rifle. Put thumper turret right in the path of the npcs so it tanks/KDs/snares them. If you get low on hp, pop behind the gate to get your heal off safely.

You can safely hold off 2-3 players + npcs like this.

Sounds interesting but I want to keep some of my brain cells, which would playing turret engi make impossible.

its not about MAPS its about BUILDS i cant play the same build as conquest seriously is it that hard to place build templates ? its like everyone likes them in every mmo hell even gw 1 had those and they where awesome there !

Not really, I play the same build on stronghold as I play on conquest, ut templates would be nice.

You guys need to realize it’s your fault for playing the mode this way, there is way more to it than killing/escorting npc’s. I’ve done around 15 games and the kills I had on people is way way way way higher than on npc’s.

I know gw2 has no trinity but it would be great if we got queue options like offense + deffense. Same principle trinity games have but slightly altered, it would prevent unbalanced teams build wise. On the other hand, some people might experience way longer queues.

I understand people don’t like some maps, I hate forest for example but I love kyhlo. Just a hint, you can easily dodge the treb.

But yeah there should be a separate queue for stronghold.

The amount of cc is pretty good honestly, they’re good as roamers and seems like they can push lord alone.

In any case your instead of whining which you are, you could you know make a suggestion to increase the channel time. Then again losing a channel isn’t the end of the game either.

Also how is that any different from any of the maps that have channeling? This isn’t a problem exclusive to the new game mode. Also the price a bunker pays for playing the map is effectively be useless, short of being a supply runner.

The difference is on other maps channel gets interrupted on hit, that’s what I suggested. Maybe read before talking.

The heroes should NOT be able to be capped so easily. If you’re on a class with zero knockbacks, you’re screwed. Sure, the channel is long, but even as a squishy ele I can just sit in water and if the other player can’t knock me back, I can cap long before they can get me close to down.

If you get HIT, the channel should end. Just like it does everywhere else in the game. Supply is whatever, but for something as strong as the hero why is it mad easy to get?

As a squishy ele you won’t be able to cap the hero. I don’t understand how sitting in water would help.

I might see why enigs would be quite strong on this map but I honestly think it’s too early to say. And I definitely don’t agree with rangers being overpowered there, you can LOS so much their range means basically nothing.

Yeah have to say a bit disappointed, as my two biggest fears were present. One being that the mode is pretty snowball, in the games I played it was very difficult for the opposing team to come back as long as you had an active defence. Another problem is the amount of focus on killing mobs, with killing players being so far secondary. Technically you could win without killing a single player.

Other issue is Bodyguard too easy to nuke down when all he does is run, even with players covering. Maybe needs a bit more damage resistance or something until he actually reaches a gate. Although I suppose the flipside is that it almost forces the stacking of stealth on them.

I feel like you’re playing the mode wrong. I don’t really focus on killing npc’s but rather go around and kill people where it’s needed and I have no problem with it.

I can’t agree with the snowball effect either, my team managed to fail lord push and still win.

Also, I don’t think you can base these things on such a small sample of games.

I’m not saying the mode is perfect but I’d rather play it a bit more before judging it.

Stronghole is the worst PvP experience I ever had. I’m definitly not buying the expansion. I’m glad they at least showed us what it looks like instead of just taking the money of the customers.

I’ve played only two games but both went to timer, I really think they should make the timer longer than 15 minutes. There’s just so much to do and since it’s 5v5, the map is not used to its full potential.

I don’t want to argue with you about when people started having queue problems.
Even without the problems it seems not enough players are there for good queue times (I thought maybe the beta changes that). This sucks, but I can’t help it, just wanted to mention this, because I think anet want’s to know why people are leaving. For me it’s the queue times.

You’re right, no point arguing with someone who complains about queue times when people can barely queue.

(FYI, queue time on NA was less than 2 minutes.)

Because it was already that bad when people had no issues. Also it’s the reason I quit this game each time.

1. I’m on EU and there should be the most people online right now. Still 7-12 minute queues (and the time is still going up) … (at least the Beta should have brought back a few people (it brought at least me)). But seeing this I’m leaving again, I have no intention to wait longer than I play.
3. But it is a polished beta close to be finished. They already showed it at pax and I’m sure the product we get won’t differ much or at all from what we see now.

Same for easy mode in any form such as shoutbow, any ele build that isn’t staff, slick shoes, instant cast easy to land fear chains on most Necro builds (especially chain fear + power necro), and Guardian and Ranger in general.

It is obviously unintentional but definitely is quite insensitive to have such a joke so soon after the crash.

One would assume that this joke took some preparation. So I’d imagine the joke was thought up and worked on well before this plane crash

I’m fairly sure that this content was being worked on well before that terrible event happened anyway. And I don’t think it’s tasteless. What I do think is that all these topics that are taking up pretty much an entire full page should all be merged into two topics:

One for “I love this April Fool’s Joke!”
One for “I hate this April Fool’s Joke!”

That’s not the point. There are so many people thinking of the germanwings crash when seeing this april joke. I do not think ANet did this on purpose, however I can see why some people find it insensitive. They didn’t think it through much.

If we had to listen to “some” people, we won’t be able to do anything in a video game. In WvW, we won’t be able to use dolyaks for supplies since PeTA will be around telling us it’s bad to use animals as a tool (could we say the same about Charrs?). We kill animals for their meat too, and we kill zombies (“they were humans before!”).

I could bet my shirt that people that are offended by an “airplane mode” (because, really, it isn’t even close to related to the crash) aren’t by what’s happening right now in other parts of the world.

If people are that easily offended, they’d better stop playing video games, because there will always be something that people consider offensive. People are too sensitive these days.

Not really, it’s how assosciations work. It happened only a few days ago. The moment I logged in and I saw a plane, I didn’t know what it was supposed to mean and the tragedy was one of the first things that came into my mind. Not because I wanted to complain, I’m not really offended by it but I can see why others are.

Some people truly are offended by other things in the game and they stop playing it. The difference is this one affected more people.

That’s true. But ANet should care about keeping their playerbase, it’s not really that big.
