Um, you made tat jump. Easily.
What you visually saw though was just a graphical glitch. Lots of times when I load into LA, I’ll enter that section and there is no visible floor and the mystic forge is invisible but it’s still there. Another issue was with the camera. Even on some dungeons, when you use screen-shake skills, the camera will occasionally sink into the ground for a second before returning back to normal.
In that video, a glitch made it look like you fell but in actuality, you ended up right next (probably running into) the mystic forge.
That was merely a glitch mate did you notice it had the underwater weapon still equipped next to the forge ?
Look at the other videos in which I take jumps with and without jump to both small and medium gaps.
sadly even these little jumps are nothing compared to what RTL used to be able to do before all the nerfing !
all they needed to do was fix the landing freeze after RTL and the targetting eveything else about the skill was fine, including vertical axis which it also no longer does.
mind that rtl was already changed some time ago…..

I feel that unless someone raises his voice in protest they will just keep nerfing everything and not think about player impact at all.
I liked my RTL the way it was just fine.

This is where I say the playerbase needs to raise their voice in protest or they will nerf and suck all the fun out of the game at this rate.
To me RTL was a lot more fun than opening a boring portal and popping from one place to the other, at least with RTL it was fun and adventurous, sometimes you’d die because the gap was either to high or to far.
This thread is a lie. I am doing jump puzzles right now and having no problems crossing gaps. I was in Lion’s Arch earlier too crossing over the water and onto ledges.
It is the same as before Monday’s patch. These guys are just bad at RTL.
1 You obviously have no idea what is being talked about here.
2 new players wouldn’t notice why should they, they never experienced RTL the way it was implemented originally.

Ride the lightning videos by others before the uncalled nerf !
Technically RTL is a Charge like the warriors rush skill. Charge is meant to travel fast, not to jump across obstacles. Thats what Leap is for like warriors Savage Leap or Eles Lightning Leap or Magnetic Leap.
Sure, leaping across obstacles is awesome fun, but as a trade-off Leaps are lower range than charges (600 vs 1200).
You cannot have it all. Get used to it.
I’d be happy if it was even at 600 range right now (for the gap closing potential) which it isn’t ! you say we can’t have it all, who’s asking for everything !

Someone said it only limits the jumps you can make, well, it limits them to the point I’m better of just doing a normal jump it’s the same distance !
RTL used to have a 1200 range, it could close any gap that falls within that distance it even had vertical axis !
now it’s just a fancy way of doing a normal jump.

Ah, wow. I stopped playing because I was waiting for ele to be put in a reasonable place, yet all I’m seeing, forum to forum, is ele nerfs. I loved ride the lightning, and they took functionality away from that too >_>. Suppose I’ll be back in a month or two to see where the profession is then.
Don’t misunderstand ele’s are not exactly in a bad position at all specially D/D ele’s, right now ele’s are pretty tough to beat. It’s just that this change is uncalled for seeing as mesmers have their portals and engineers have their rocket boots.
I’m amazed there aren’t many more posts about this at all.

Ride the lightning no longer crosses any gaps or anything, it’s just like fast walking on the ground even a stone will stop you from moving forward, the skill has become lame.
In various interviews it has been mentioned that you’d like to give more professions abilities somewhat like mesmer portals well, guess what ? we elementalists already had such a great tool it’s Called ride the lightning but you changed it and it is now worthless (I say worthless of course compared to what it used to be able to do compared to know)
My point is, please change ride the lightning back to it’s original state !
why should mesmers be the only ones ?
and even engineers have rocket boots so why did you take away ours in the 1st place ?

You cannot solo the kill combo daily which is kitten me off pretty hardcore. You can’t even do it with strangers, you HAVE to add people to a party to do it.
They made these achievements sound like a reason to come back to the game, but…yeah. No. This is really stupid.
you do not have to be in a party for the combo kills to work at all just roaming around strolling together is enough, just make sure the final killshot is a finisher inside a combo field.
Changes I would love to see implemented now that hey plan to redesign Boss Encounter Mechanics:
1 Remove the annoying defiance buff from Bosses it was a lazyman’s way to fix the core of the issue anyway.
2 display name coherence, what I mean is most of the time I have no idea who is writing to me because the name is always different and if I’m in the middle of a fight I can’t stop to hover over their name to see the account name !
Give us options, say, display account name only for all characters of the same account or display chosen nickname for all characters of this account.

1. Defiance is necessary unfortunately, and we figured that out early on. Without defiance, groups just stack knockdown skills and utilities and kill every boss without them being able to get up off the floor. There are some funny videos of this that can be found where players repeatedly throws rocks at Adelbern and knock him over constantly, allowing them to kill him with ease.
2. I’m a bit confused still about what you are implying with this and how it effects boss re-designs. Could you elaborate some more?
I mean, I can understand why defiance is there right now at the current state of the game.
But, now that they will be revising, reworking Boss encounters and adding possible phases to those Boss encounters, it would be a good idea to come up with something other than a buff that negates all forms of control.

I don’t know what the OP is talking about I just transferred my toon back to my main server for free, and yes free server transfers are ruining WvW but unless they make guesting available it is a necessary evil for now at least. Server hopping and the works, there is no server pride at all !

you say rotations in GW2 are the same as in wowask games ? seriously this alone is insane just to say it.

all skills in gw2 are optional and situational, trinity based games cannot say the same most of your skills follow a certain pattern and for the sake of rotations cannot be used whenever you feel like using it.
what I mean by the right gear is this, in gw2 you can go in with rare yellow gear and still come out on top because your skill makes up for the difference, in wowask trinity based game the fights are scripted to such an extend you will not succeed unless you have the right gear for that particular encounter it is the reason there is gear score and raiding tiers.

Here the word script is used inappropriately. It suggests you don’t have to think about a fight and situational awareness is key to success in GW2 or WoW. The more appropriate word to use in the discussion is role. And, yes, it’s true that if you don’t perform your role well under the trinity things won’t go well. It’s the same IRL. In an operating room there are a set number of surgeons, nurses, and an anesthesiologist. The number of instruments on the trays are scripted, the medical devices are standard for the procedure, and, yes, this is brain surgery.
What you describe in your last sentence is the berzerker battlefield, everyone doing doing what is right in their own eyes. It’s a very primitive understanding of human behavior in groups. And, it’s not how humans function at their highest level of effectiveness in games or in operating rooms.

here, in a wowask trinity fight it doesn’t matter how well you perform your role if, you do not have the gear for the boss encounter, if you do not keep up with silly rotations, if you do not follow the script that says unless you do this you will die horribly.
To use your operating room example,
Trinity example:
there are points at which you have to use specific tools at a specific moments or anything else you do will fail horribly no matter how good a surgeon you may be this is holy trinity style scripting
Gw2 example:
the instruments are the same as the previous example but because only the boss and not the whole fight has been scripted to have a specific trinity party you can deal with it as you see fit, to put it in your surgeon perspective, you have a massive bleed do you use a clamp, do you use suction or do you finish the operation while using suction and blood transfusions to keep going ?
in GW2 you have all those options open to you and you choose the course that feels best to you, in trinity gameplay the script says use the clamp or die
Again to put it in surgeon terms as you seem to like those, in trinity based gameplay only a brain surgeon is allowed to perform brain surgery, only a heart surgeon is allowed to perform heart surgery and so on.
in GW2 is more like you’re a general surgeon and you can perform any of those if the need arises.
All sounds great on paper, but combat is boring in game, cool story though. And I stand by the fact that this is a pure DPS game. Cool, you can remove conditions and cripple foes. I can do that in any trinity game. I can even heal my self in WoW on my rogue more than I can in GW2.

A variant of the ubiquitous Altruistic Healing Guardian. Spams buffs like they’re going out of style (support). Greatsword does very respectable damage + mix of Knights/Berserkers to support it (DPS). Has Altruistic healing + Toughness through the roof so it functions as a very effective tank (control).
Now which one is it? This is one of the most prevalent builds out there. Which role does it fill?

Ranger with dual birds + max range longbow with a high crit chance + sigil of Air + Marksman line (DPS). But in addition, Healing Spring’s regen grating + boost to regen duration from runes + traits + ability to grant regen using projectile finishers through the water field and group condition cleansing through healing spring (support/healer). And then to top it off, he can quickly swap to Greatsword for control and tanking, especially with his high crit chance + sigil of blood, 2 sources of “always on” passive regen from signet + Natural Healing (more with some Mango pies) and a 6 second invulnerability. Not to mention, 2 sources of stability.
What role are they? Answer me that. Because I play both of them and I can tell you that defining them is impossible. Beyond that, they play completely differently despite the fact that they both fill the “same roles”.
That’s an easy one. They fulfill all the roles and don’t do any of them with any significance, except DPS. And, even that you gimp to the extent you go for support. I believe you’ve illustrated the problem the OP is suggesting that exists in the game. There are roles which are defined in GW2 but none of them feel significant beyond DPS. Again, roles in groups are hard-coded in humans. In order to fulfill a role and find it satisfying, it should be and feel significant.
those 2 guardian builds are more support based than anything else.
does that mean he can’t dps? no it doesn’t, does that mean he can’t perform control? no it doesn’t.
It means his primary focus is support, that is all it means.
it makes a huge difference to have a support build guardian in your party, you will certainly feel the huge difference, when all of a sudden you’re only taking half the damage and regenerating health at an alarming rate, while putting retaliation out and contributing to dps all at the same time.
if you don’t have a guardian in your party you better get a support ele or a shouts healer warrior, it’s not the same but quite close.

the very definition of best build in any trinity mmorpg is this:
dps best = min/max for your given class
tank best = min/max for your given class
heal best = min/max for your given class
Anything subpar or catered to your individual desire is purely minor, maybe one or two skills or skill points at best.
there are those in which even race/class combinations are the best for a given role
and if you choose anything else you’re not doing the best in your given part of the trinity and as such will get you kicked off the party most of the time because of dps meters !
Also I hate the fact that in a trinity mmo my toon is always locked in place if I go tank that is all I can do, not to mention the fact that most trinity mmo’s are all about playing the UI and not looking at what is going on, as long as you keep up with your skill rotation you can watch TV if you felt like it.
Also, roles in gw2 are working as intended.

Just isn’t practical though. Have you ever worn chain mail before? It pinches. A lot. Thus why people who wear chain mail, wear something under it to prevent it from pinching their skin every time they move.
Now imagine that as underwear. Not a fun time at all. And if they wore something under it to prevent that pinching, then it would be pointless to even wear the chain mail in the first place. Especially if it is just underwear. No one wants to sleep in chain mail briefs when they have on perfectly fine regular briefs underneath.
I could understand wanting different underwear styles or the ability to dye underwear, but chain mail underwear….. I just couldn’t put my character through such torture.

I personally can’t wait for the players who would insult anyone who perfers the trinity as “unskilled.” I dare you to go up to a top 100 WoW raiding guild and say that.
The problem with using WoW raids as a base to determine skill is that they’re nothing more than scripted events. When a new raid is made, the “top” guilds get to beta test the raid. They’re also given the script on how to fight that particular fight. Tanks do this, dps avoid that, etc. Once they’ve mastered the script, they create videos to tell the rest of the community exactly how to do the fight. The only skill they really have is skill at following a script. When I was playing (pre-Cata), tanking was going to the right place and doing my 9-6-9 rotation, occasionally using a taunt if an add broke loose or whatever. At predetermined (and loudly alarmed) moments I may need to add in an additional mitigation skill… that was pretty much it. On my hunter, go there, start rotation. Alarm sounds, next line in the script.
That’s what I like about the GW2 system instead… scripts are tossed out the window. You’re free to deal with the encounters as you see fit, and there are a myriad amount of ways to do so. I do what needs to be done, not what the script tells me I need to do next.
This right here, I’ve never been able to say it like this but this is exactly the issue

I so agree with this, in the current system you never know who is really talking unless you hover over their name and it’s maddening. I Would like there to be an option to allow me to choose to use account name only for all contacts and guild members.

Aside, if it is unclear whether an exploit is actually exploit, maybe it’d be a better idea to send players an in-game warning asking them to cease and desist instead of permanently banning them? I appreciate that you’re dedicated to fighting exploits, ArenaNet, but it’s more important to communicate and be transparent with your stakeholders.

It’s a well known fact that GW2’s PVE is horrible.
I like most of the PvE, so this is news to me.

There’s no need for channels specific for buying selling the trading post is your 1 stop shop, even if you don’t wish to pay the current asking price you can place a buy order for the price you are willing to pay.

I didn’t say make them easier to acquire, but you gotta agree the current state of affairs is far from ideal !
The only gripe I have with the whole legendary issue is the state of the precursor acquisition and the selling of legendary weapons on the TP.
I understand completely about the rarity issue and that it needs to be difficult but… playing the trading post or pure RNG has nothing to do with what it should take to acquire a legendary weapon.
I’ve said this before I don’t care if it’s so difficult it takes 6 months to finish the scavenger hunt as long as I have a goal to work towards not just some RNG piece of kitten (yes I wrote kitten)
What I meant was, EvE players thrive off scamming people out of their hard earned cash.
Sure because in spite of the beautiful system in place they still want bottom bargain prices and become prey for the wolves by making direct transactions.
in Guild Wars 2’s case the players just haven’t learned and apparently don’t want to learn !

Only a player that has acquired his precursor already using exploits or any other dubious means would be happy with the current systems in place off course he’d feel threatened that their precursors for sale on the TP would lose their value !
I for one do want to see this change into some sort of personal scavenger hunt that you can only do solo !
and no selling precursors or legendaries on the TP !
I’m a big fan of this game but this situation is starting to disgust me quite a bit to the point I’m not playing as much anymore !
This from someone that has over 850+ hours in the game, and has seen 1 precursor in all his game time and even than it was from the karka fiasco event drop !

All this could be avoided by simply implementing normal trade window between players (like in ANY MMORPG out there – it obviously isn’t rocket science) – but noooo we have to implement silly toys and holiday events first !
1 -he got scammed by a player attempting a direct transaction and your solution is to implement a direct player trading so he can be scammed legally LOL are you a mokitten !?
2 – the TP system is global so the price on the TP is what people are currently willing to pay for a certain item and it prevents scamming very nicely, it is partially the players fault for going outside the system in place to try and get a cheaper price as such making himself vulnerable to scamming, why not make a buy order for a lesser price instead, you would not get them right away but you would not get scammed either !

it would only legitimize scammers and gold sellers giving them all the power to overcharge or scam people out of money in the back alleys of Guild Wars 2
the Global Trading post system is the best option of any mmorpg out there in terms of economics that is not EVE online ! it may not be perfect but it has far less detrimental consequences for players than any flawed direct player trading ever implemented in any mmorpg outside of EVE online

Warrior has perma swift, fury, might.
Guardian stability shouts last 5 secs and they are supposed to be the boon class.
Should I just make a warrior or will Anet ever balance the classes or will this just continue to be a Warrior, GS Centered Game? Let me know, so I can make the appropriate Main character class choice.
true that warriors have perma swift fury and might but….
I also have a guardian with perma protection vigor and retaliation so there is your balance.
The only difference is the guardian has to be in combat to get perma boons the warrior does not.
Also guardians do have access to perma swiftness if you build for extra boon duration. (staff)

On a different but slightly related note, have you ever noticed how in most mmorpgs, the thief/rogue/stealth classes are always the ones dominating in pvp? It seems like it is so easy for the general player base to quickly find a lame but comfortable and OP build around thief-associated skills.

You got a point there, I was hoping GW2 would be different till they announced the thief class than I knew what would happen, still A.net is not like every other developer out there so I keep my hopes up wishing they will fix it.
I’m not saying it should be balanced or 100% fair in WvW after all it is all about not being perfectly balanced but…

After all, they are just doing what their role portrays accurately – using every unfair way they can exploit to their advantage. When did the word ‘thief’ ever equate to ‘fair’?

I made it my point in swtor to hunt and massacre stealth classes I build my character specifically to hunt them down and bash their face in. That option is currently not available here, but when it is thieves dying screams will be heard all the way to the eternal battlegrounds underground !

The resource system for thieves is a joke There’s absolutely no consequences to exhausting your supply of innitiative, just go into stealth and regenerate it at a constant accelerated rate, give me a break !
Swtor did this resource management system the right way as a trooper you had to manage your ammo carefully if you go in spamming and blow it all up it regenerated a lot slower the less ammo you had left.
This would be in line with A.net view of choices and compromises so it fits Guild Wars 2 perfectly

- Why, so that the person being jumped has a chance to counter other than the “let’s see if I get lucky and hit him with my blind targeted AOE”
- if you have no AOE or ground targeted abilities you’re pretty much dead to a stealth focused thief (forced target drop anyone)

^^ Those comparisons have nothing to do with what is going on mate.
the root of the problem is both stealth and culling.
There’s a reason you almost never see complaints about stealth in sPVP, why ? cause there it works the way it’s meant to aside from some builds that take it to the extreme and need some minor tweaking.
Culling:
- self explanatory as to why it makes stealth classes OP !
Stealth
- stealth needs to break on damage that is the only change I would suggest, why cause what you can’t see can kill you and right now there’s no way to break their stealth, sure you can spam aoe and hope to hit him, but even in the best games out there that have stealth classes if I hit you you come out of stealth and while in combat you have maybe 1 or 2 emergency very long cooldown abilities that allow you to stealth again even while in combat.
