Dye bug still affects armor

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Leablo.2651

Leablo.2651

I saw this in the recent patch notes:
Fixed a bug in which outfit dyes reset when changing outfits.

I’m wondering if Anet is aware that dyes are bugged on all armor, not just outfits. And it was not fixed by the patch.

At least for me, this is how it happens:

  • Equip a new item, observe that item default colors are applied
  • Re-equip previous item, observe that previous dye colors are applied
  • Equip the new item again, observe that dye colors are maintained
If you don’t perform the last step, then at some point the game will save the default colors and you will have to manually redye the armor.

This bug occurs regardless of whether the old item and new item have the same model.

The dust is definitely there but can be hard to spot because it’s a subtle effect, the same color as the ground. Worse, if you’re trying to light the fire and there are color/particle effects happening under you it’s even harder to see dust forming under your feet. A single dust cloud also has no orientation so if one forms under you it’s still vague as to which way you should run. Even when I knew what to look for I would still get hit by a rock seemingly from nowhere.

All kinds of bugs in Wintersday JP

Having done this without issue both years prior, something is definitely wrong with the JP now. All kinds of pop-in, even for the candy cane ledges which aren’t supposed to disappear/melt. At the midpoint section, the bottom row of (blue, rectangular) gifts don’t respawn most of the time. And the exploding boxes themselves seem to go off even before you can start jumping on them, making it past this part seems to be more about luck now in choosing a path that happens not to explode.

Character doesn't jump, skritt doesn't res

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Leablo.2651

Leablo.2651

This issue pertains to a number of jumping puzzles that are overly reliant on dodgy level geometry, but the most recent example being the exterior “window sills” of the SS Topsy Turvy when attempting to access one of the golden badges.

When attempting to perform a running jump on the narrow window sills, the character often does not respond to the jump command and simply continues running, therefore falling off the edge instead of performing a running jump as intended. In this case, the jump occurs well before the end of (the visible representation of) the ledge, so timing shouldn’t be an issue, but it is, since the lack of any jump at all makes it impossible to recover from the error.

When the character falls from the ledge, there is no way for them to return to the upper level except by waypointing. It is also expected that the character should be able to fall, and die, being resurrected by the skritt and returning via the tunnels. However, this seems to not work consistently or have some kind of hidden prerequisite, as the skritt often do not appear and the player is forced to pay for a waypoint either way.

Been trying a few hours now, the download is very slow (bursts of about 20kb/s and then dropping to 0) and eventually produces a generic “Connection error, retrying” message from which there appears to be no actual recovery.

As you can see from this post, my internet is working fine.

The client itself becomes unresponsive (won’t close) and I have to use the task manager to kill the process. In the meantime it is still using 50-70% of CPU.

As I said already, they stayed at Amber and did the events there while farming. They did not have to do events at the other forts to get shovels.

It’s not rocket science.

The key phrase there is “did not have to” which does not preclude them from doing anything. It’s not rocket science, it’s more like marketing. Do you know what a loss leader is?

I was an amber chest farmer myself, but at times I even commanded for amber when it was needed, and between chest spawns I’d go out to fetch the pack bulls and what not. Even without people like me doing that stuff for the instance, the fact that you get one fort essentially for free makes it that much easier for everyone else to handle the other 3. Now you have fewer people trying to maintain more forts. How’s that going?

It’s really too bad and so sad that some people actively choose not to learn from established patterns. Even mice are capable of learning from repetition.

Chris, can you provide a baseline definition of “raid”? What exactly is the intention behind creating “raid” content that cannot already be expressed in terms of existing dungeons or fractals? Is it about creating another category of content that is gated to guilds?

Here you go:

This seems to conflict with the title of the thread, which implies “instanced co-operative guild based ‘challenging’ content…”

The fact that the Studio Director states he will look into it tells me that it is a bug. The fact that the story itself is still in the game files tells me it is a trigger bug. I don’t see what you are seeing that supports a theory that it is not a bug.

The short answer is critical thinking.

You can also use “crying wolf”. This is what happens when the developer regularly applies nerfs to longstanding content rewards and calls them “bug fixes”.

Unfortunately, the player base isn’t nearly as stupid as Anet would prefer, and everything about the NPE seems geared toward making that ratio more favorable.

Collection "Achievements"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Leablo.2651

I have nothing against this new set of achievements, it seems like a reasonable way of adding midterm goals against collecting every skin. The one thing I do take issue with is the need to “discover” hidden achievements. This demonstrates (again) a certain cognitive dissonance in Anet’s design, where they know they are making an internet game, and still trying to base achievements around hidden secrets. There are no secrets on the internet, as evidenced by recent events. All you’re doing is forcing players to go to an external information source (dulfy or wiki) in order to find out how to obtain the goals of the game without having to waste their time using random trial and error.

Wardrobe and Minis

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

What I want to know is why it was necessary to remove the collection slots. This is basically making it so that people who want to maintain a collection must either consume the minis or look to purchasing ~150 inventory slots plus an indefinite quantity in the future. This is taking choice away from players about how they want to manage their mini collection and forcing minis to become another gold sink for unlocks.

Also, they mentioned new achievements for unlocking. What will happen to the current achievements if people can no longer add minis to the collection slot? Are they now going to be forever stuck at their current progress?

Ship of Sorrows

This is obviously one of the most broken areas in the entire game. The enemies aggro and clip through walls and floors/ceilings. Your own aoes and bouncing shots will do the same to hit (and aggro) enemies that you don’t have any LOS to. Even when the enemies aren’t coming through the walls, half the time their pathing is bugged and they just swim aimlessly back and forth, meanwhile keeping the player in combat for much longer periods than they should (enemies that got hit on the other side of a wall and manage not to clip through it will also keep you in combat until they reset). To top it off, there seems to be intentionally high mob density here so that you are frequently forced to fight 2-3 at a time, including veterans, and plus or minus other mobs coming through the walls. If I didn’t know better I might think that the devs were trolling.

It’s bad enough that such broken content was even allowed to ship in this state, but to add insult to injury someone thought it was a great idea to make this one of the required locations for unlocking a XIII trait. I’m just flabbergasted that Anet would want to force players to see how broken some of the content in this game is. I really shouldn’t have had to post this at all since it clearly has the attention of whichever developer thought that broken content made for a good challenge. You guys are falling into the bad design traps of other MMOs: “Just bring more people.”

For the record, I’ve completed the trait unlock on 2 characters using 2 attempts each, so it’s not that I find that the content to be too hard. That is not relevant to the issue, which is that the content is plainly broken and is more cheap than difficult as a result.

Time-wasting gotchas in achievements

in Living World

Posted by: Leablo.2651

Leablo.2651

There is a trick to getting the “kill all enemies” achievement in the Waypoint Conundrum. I am sitting here with 1 group left which as you can probably guess is the inquest group hidden behind the door.

See, I thought the tricky part of this achievement was killing the Veteran before she ran away (which in itself is kind of a gotcha but one that you can at least learn from and prepare for). In fact, you actually have to kill this group first even though as a first-time player you have no reasonable indication that they are even there, nor that you can only kill them while another mob is active. I now have to restart the instance and do everything over again. I also note that the achievement does not actually fail when you miss this part – it lets you continue wasting your time in the instance thinking you have a possibility for completion when you don’t. At the very least, this achievement should fail-fast when the hidden group is no longer accessible. How many man-hours have been wasted running around trying to look for this group which is inaccessible and effectively hidden from sight?

Consider that this type of poor “gotcha” design encourages players to use walkthroughs starting from their first playthrough. Is this the goal that Anet had in mind for achievement challenges? You might as well put them under the category “Dulfy”. I don’t understand why a non-sub game, which doesn’t have a profit motive in wasting players’ time, uses these kinds of cheap tricks to force replaying content (with no rewards, I might add) when the solution is entirely trivial and isn’t skill-based whatsoever.

EDIT: Aaaaand true to the quality of this content, I was able to cheese the group by spamming aoe conditions through the door (Thief shortbow 2).

Does tier 4 ever happen?

in Living World

Posted by: Leablo.2651

Leablo.2651

The actual numbers of players needed aren’t that high to reach T5, probably less than 25, but you need people who are all communicating and working towards that goal OR you need a full map because most maps are full of people doing other events, or afking or zerging around scaling events, and so on.

Sounds like the same difference to me. Let me know when you manage to find 25 random people to coordinate and work together on a map that isn’t near full. Most of those who might be willing are the ones getting taxis out and self-organizing guilds that can field 25 people have already moved to the upper tiers one way or another.

Also I wasn’t even talking about T5, I was answering the OP’s question about T4. Since not this release but the original Dry Top I have yet to see even T4 in my home instance even during peak times. That’s what, 3 weeks? Even assuming your estimates are correct on paper, it’s simply not the reality of how the game is played. The situation we have now with zephyrite favor is pretty much the exact same situation we were in with the Assault Knights, where we simply did not have the body count to obtain achievements and it only got worse as more people resorted to guesting.

Almost forgot to mention a interesting part of the Investigation Team is that each member has some kind of affiliation with a member of Destiny Edge.

That’s lazy writing. They tried to give the new characters instant relevance by inheriting the existing relationship from DE. The bit about Logan hiring the Delaqua firm has had absolutely no relevance to the story. They could retcon Logan to Evon Gnashblade and no changes to the story would be needed. Similarly, Braham’s relation to Eir has been left completely by the wayside after using her to introduce him.

Guild admin privilege is not secure

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Leablo.2651

Leablo.2651

Firstly, the “invite others to guild” privilege should be separated entirely. You don’t necessarily want to restrict others from joining the guild while maintaining full control of ranks. Right now, having an open membership policy results in unnecessary privilege escalation, which is a dangerous combination.

The second problem, and another issue of unwanted privilege escalation, is that this allows people to promote others to their own rank. That doesn’t make much sense. Usually a manager cannot hire another manager to serve at the same rank. A person is usually promoted out of some specific recognition of trust by their superiors. But just because they are trusted doesn’t mean that you trust who they trust. It’s just like the “friends of friends” principle: when you friend one person it doesn’t mean you want to friend all of their friends.

In short, the current functionality of this privilege is overloaded and creates vulnerabilities. I can’t imagine that this is something that is terribly difficult to fix, so please.

I note that Anet previously patched this function to allow Leaders to demote other Leaders, now they just need a similar exception to allow Leaders to promote others to Leader. (Though honestly, when you can create ranks that have the same effective privileges as Leader, there’s no real need to have multiple Leaders and allow the possibility of some unintended party usurping control. On the other hand, if the game had supported some feature to run the guild using democratic controls…)

Maybe it’s a minimal effort for someone who doesn’t contribute much, but in any case it takes a long time to do the blitz event. Most of us have other games (or parts of GW2) to play if the festival content is just a waste of time. Seeing as to how the festival zones are becoming empty faster than any other update I’ve seen, it looks like people are exercising their options. The content now sucks slightly less, which is better than nothing, but it’s correct to say that this will not compel many people to return. I don’t think I’m alone in having 100+ games in my Steam backlog, and I don’t need to see repeating content with nerfed rewards.

What did you guys exactly expect for your shards? Precursor? Free exotics? A bag of 10 T6 mats?

Is there something in between 1 green and an exotic/chance for precursor? Why yes, I believe there is, so I’m not sure why you felt the need to immediately go to an extreme in Anet’s defense. You’re not an apologist, are you?

As a baseline to start from, the exchange should have been something like 250 shards = 1 yellow. If people have been carrying these dead weight stacks around in inventory for 2 months, it’s only fair that they see a meaningful return on the inconvenience and lost opportunities.

As it is, 20 stacks occupying an entire bag slot for 2 months is what Anet thinks is worth about 50 silver in vendor trash. If you’re arguing that this is fair, then you can keep your bags full of greens from now on. Be prepared to show proof a few months from now.
