If you’re complaining about the vulnerability stacks that maul provides as a power ranger you clearly don’t know what vulnerability does to someone who has it on them.
3 vuln being three percent more damage… but in dungeons (the only place this really matters) sword+axe/wh(depending on whether you need reflects) is better anyway
Someone may need to explain to me why Maul being a blast finisher would be overpowered. Compare it to the Guardian Hammer #2. Same 5 second cooldown with better damage on a full 360 AOE and short gap-closer.
If you would say Maul has too much synergy with Healing Spring, I would answer Mighty Blow has just as much synergy with the light-field created on the third strike of Guardian Hammer’s auto chain.
Why the disparity? Both are defensive AOE weapons. Ranger Greatsword evades on auto, Guardian hammer does aoe protection on auto. Ranger Greatsword blocks, Guardian Hammer does a circle wall. Ranger Greatsword interrupts, Gaurdian Hammer Banishes. Why then is a 5 second blast finisher fine for one and not the other I wonder?
All a light combo field does, is add retaliation. Other then that, the Guardian has two fire fields with long recharge times.
The Ranger has a water field with Healing Spring, that lasts 15 seconds. A fire field every 15 second with Fire Trap, and every 25 second with Bonfire. An ice field with Ice Trap every 30 second. And poison fields with various pets every 30 seconds. Basically, the Ranger has way too many useful combo fields to have a blast finisher with only a 6 second recharge time. And all of this isn’t even considering traits that reduce recharge times.
The point of combo skills is to make players work together with each other.

… but i dont think the point of combos are meant to make people work together specifically… sure working together amplifies their usefulness (i love rangers who put healing spring under my hammer guardian… so so so much) but classes like ele and engi show that they are also designed to be taken advantage of in solo play
Guradian hammer gets a blast finisher every 5 or less seconds…and they have near limitless light and fire fields to throw out.

fire*2
posion (ish…)
water (water being the main difference)
and they dont get another finisher on their hammer
trade the leap finisher on Swoop for a Blast Finisher on Maul any day of the week.

Honestly, the Ranger as it stands brings nothing to the table and that is my concern.
Healing Spring is a situational healing; you use it to heal yourself, you could screw the group, but if u use it to heal your group you might screw yourself. Compare to the 2 Elementalists staff water fields HS is just an OK and not reliable in groups.
it brings frost spirit and spotter… but spirits still suffer from instadeath aoes
(granted i very very very rarely dungeon on my ranger – my main in dungeons is guard, just because it makes pug runs so much easier – but…) imo its best to save healing spring for condition cleanses, when you absolutely MUST heal (chances are; other people could use the top up too) or to give group vigor without wasting the heal (if you’re paying enough attention to team dodges and have vigor on heal trait… or have a necro in the party… then they’ll be your best friend forever and ever)
… also bear… bare?… in mind that staff is the laziest elementalist weapon… good eles will be (mostly) using dagger or scepter

… another thing that annoys me is trying to see the white outline of buffs (the outline that indicates the % duration left) whilst against a snowy backdrop
It’s not a 13k heal.
It’s 13k potential healing in that 15 second window, if you dedicate all your GS finishers to swooping into walls and junk.
If it was Spring+Maul bam full health, yea I’d agree with you, that’s nerf bait no doubt. It’s clearly not that though.
its a potential solo 13k heal, couple that with counter block from GS and evades (vigor on heal trait procs on each pulse of healing spring) you also easily have the ability to mitigate a ton damage until you are prepared to super heal again
same as healing turret being a potential 7.6k heal (but its base heal is only 2.5k)
i love my GS in wvw, swoop and counterattack are amazing, the auto attack is much better at zerg clashing than swords and hilt bash interrupts are still amazingly useful without traiting for moment of clarity
… though it could use some love (counterattack root on hit in melee range… ARGH) i do think its an extremely useful weapon

It’s not like we are getting a 6k heal in one big chunk.
It’s 6k potential healing over 15 secs while putting every GS cooldown into that healing instead of using them for movement/damage and restricting yourself to that water field area.
You also still have the same healing ‘downtime’, when your field is on CD.
Like, how many times do you get 2 swoops per spring in actual fights vs. how many times you need it for positioning or gap closing?
Yea, it would be really nice to have the blast finisher, but it’s still not “We got a Blaster finisher, HealingSpring does DOUBLE HEALING WOO!”

healing surge at nearly 9k… IF at full adrenaline (wasting its other property of insta adrenaline) with a 1s cast time… and then you compare it to warriors health pool, which is… whats high health base? is it 12k-15k-18k? icr but its 50% health at best

Or you could have an increased cooldown, with an appropriate increase in damage/vulnerability to keep its overall dps the same.
except the cooldown i would suggest would be 25s+ which is multiplying damage by 4/5… which would probably put it in one shot territory…

I agree with some of the points brought up about the Watchknight’s visage, however, some of these reasons people are pushing seems to stem from people’s personal neurosis and lack of self esteem about their image and trying to use it to bolster their argument. If it’s crushing to your psyche to not live up to what a female character (or even male for that matter) looks like in a video game, you have much bigger self issues at work.

Whatever way you look at it, a creature that can live in lava shouldn’t be able to be burnt. Same as a rock shouldn’t bleed, and an Ice Elemental shouldn’t be Chilled.
These sorts of things make players think of different approaches to how they fight enemies.

The other factor the food only plays in wvw with the -40% stun duration food
You should also know that a 1 second stun is still very potent and with that a player can loss because you inturpet his heal or just plan out kill him with team coordination. I really don’t see this as a problem since in wvw its mostly just zerg battles. So that stun duration decrease is very viable there because a ton of people throwing stuns at you is just.. out right unbalanced if you didn’t have a way to nullify it somehow. I’m pretty sure the food is there to help subside the fact that there are many people throwing stuns around in wvw. Also 3 second stun is very very strong getting it decreased to .7-1 second is still very strong. In team play 1 second of not being able to do anything can be a deadly situation.Also if you are one of those people that roam around by yourself you just have to be more aware of the people you decide to fight.
Now i could see your concern if this was possible to do in spvp.
I hope this kind of sheds some light on why this probably wont change.I must disagree on your point of view. In zerks people throw a lot of conditions too. For example, Conditions can be buff to +65% duration. You have food that gives you +40% condition duration and traits that increase condition duration by +30%. This gives you +70% condition duration.
So, if you use 6 Melandru runes + -40% condition duration food, you completely nullify the condition duration of the enemy and the conditions only last for the original value.
In fact, In zerk battles you die not because of direct damage, but because of condition damage. Now imagine stacking the condition to +1 min. That my friend will be unbalanced! Luckily we have melandru runes and food that nullify the conditions to their original value.

- also… i dont die to conditions in wvw… though my main wvw char is necro (putrid mark and consume conditions being my removals… but i can tank them through DS) my ranger (arguably worst condition removal access in the game) doesnt have a problem with conditions either (my ranger being 30/20/20/0/0 and secondary wvw char), if you die to conditions then you’re likely standing in something you shouldnt be standing in, or being focused by a condition build and are letting them do whatever they want… compare that to say… static field… static field is a zerg killer with an organised group if used right, hammer warrs can break apart mobile zergs
tl;dr CC leaves people open to easily getting focused (easy because of the vast amount of players) whereas condis are just slow damage (unless you get loaded up… which is just the same as being focused by direct damage… -cond duration then acts similarily to toughness)

necro might be good at getting the achievement… condi build using scepter (just auto attacking and running around) or power build with dagger/x and axe/x
i recall just sword ninja-ing him in the corner on my ranger, didnt teleport once… didnt even realise he teleported around till i saw someone else against him

From that position I could have destroyed your ACs. I don´t know if the area would be exactly the same as in your pic but it comes very close.

this is why hard to use ranged weapons(axe is a nightmare) in wvw. if you want to see anything you will hit the mother earth, or watch the back of your character and nothing else (i hope you are a big, furball charr)
if you bind next target to an easily reachable key (i bound mine to mouse wheel click) it becomes much less infuriating, but becomes a bit random as to who you end up shooting in large scale battles

since you’re gaining stability from just activating the skill its had an effect and… ugh i dont know how id explain it without sounding stupid
like eles churning earth, the actual attack is at the end of the cast… but it pulses cripple, as soon as it starts pulsing cripple if you or an enemy cancel it then it goes on full CD, you can cancel it before the cripple pulse starts and it wont go on full CD, im assuming WoPs stability is activated as soon as the skill is pressed and it counts similarly to churning earths cripple
tl;dr just a side effect of it becoming a stunbreaker (and needing stability to be used as a stunbreaker since its not instant cast)… its probably the same for warriors stomp (but im too lazy to check)

thats because you have no enemy targetted so its shooting (roughly around) the center of your screen
- channeled skills (such as rapid fire) continue shooting at a target after detargetting them, which means that itll ‘track’ stealthed players (if you use longbow activate rapid fire just as you think they’re about to stealth)
And they’ve said multiple times they wont be making new weapon types anytime soon. They will be bringing in new weapons for all classes from the pre-existing weapons. It actually irritates me when people come up with unrealistic suggestions like scythes, because it doesnt help the discussion and it just derails the topic into some fantasy land.

Really? That’s the only thing you could possibly come up with? Piken has plenty of roamers in EB, which is where I go usually. Don’t be fooled by the herd running behind the commanders. There are still people on Piken who like to PvP in WvW, instead of just steam-rolling enemy zergs.
well i rarely play EB, i mostly stick on the borderlands and i cant recall seeing a single roamer , its the same as you say abba and deso are; groups of 2+

35 players is a lot, just because you’re all in one guild doesnt make it any different to deso or abba pug ‘raids’

Almost every single boss in gw2 is a dps fest. You just said something as pointless as someone pointing out that guardians and warriors are heavy classes to someone who thinks they’re medium classes.

If you have some way to escape the crystals you can solo every boss aside from the Destroyer. And even with him, you just need someone to operate the lasers, you can have it take 100 trips if you want. That’s the opposite of DPS check. DPS check means time-gated windows to do your damage otherwise there’s some sort of non-reversible condition to wipe the party or regen the boss to full. Enrage mechanics, etc.

There seems to be constant exaggeration of Desolation numbers, inflating them to twice as much or even more.

i misunderstood the first post; i thought you were asking for all classes to be able to manipulate boons and conditions… but yeh having mobs use more boons would be nice (the only ones i can think off of the top of my head are dredge gong players, skales and ascalonian monks… then again… classes with the ability to manipulate those buffs do have a strong advantage against them… except skales… skales are super duper easy)
