great suggestion(!) except im unemployed (for several reasons i dont intend on listing) and not on benefits (jobseekers/dla/whatever else i may be elligible for) so dont have the money to spend
What do you mean it doesn’t work? Getting the JP rewards without doing the JP is like getting the laurels without doing the daily.
Because there is absolutely no possible way to get Laurels without doing the work. That is a straw man argument.
thats an arguement for no portals in JP
there should be absolutely no possible way to get JP chests without doing the work (imo that also includes ‘planting’ an alt at a JP and ‘harvesting’ it daily)…
Well, I can see plenty of issues with that screenshot.
- The resolution is 1280×1024, which is not widescreen. That makes the placement of the event descriptions, map and your chat window take up some much needed screen space.
- Your chat window is in a weird location. Even if it’s because it makes it easier to read, you really cannot argue that there’s nothing for you to see in that lower left corner.
- Your map size seems pretty big.
- You have 8 mails.
- to clarify, i dont care about the map taking up my screen (its useful) i dont care about chat taking up my screen (its useful) i care about the horrible atrocity shown on the right side of the screen (and the way it keeps hiding stuff i actually want to see to show other stuff i dont care about thats progressing, cant hide the living story pop up and dailies/monthlies track automatically)
Check the sig below, join in with the rest of us haters & one day, this crap may get fixed.
+1’d the UI design is horrible (the new achievement screens as well… double rows…. eugh)
Yeah, I agree with the OP, UI should definitely be adjusted for different monitors. Yesterday I was playing on my brother PC, and I was stunned that the UI took so much place, even if it was 1920×1200 screen.
Imo it should look close to the attached one on most of the displays, not much ppl have large res screens anyway, and it rly affects gameplay.
I’d suggest sth like UI scale option like in LoL
if the display showed as small as that (in proportion to the rest) on my screen the text would probably be unreadable (kind of like the TP…)… but a UI scaler would be nice… being able to customise your UI to extensive degrees would be even better

+1 joining with the haters
Ok….what about people with lagg?
People with lagg do have a huge disadvanges. so for us to find out that there will be a new event with a new JP is horrible, since, we might aswell stop doing them.
i have lag 60% of the time, only JP its caused issue with is stepping stones (and not so secret… but i accidentally ruined that for myself by taking a portal someone dropped at my feet)
dwarven keys
those open the doors you can find littered around dredgehaunt cliffs
worked for me… was in an overflow too
You do not have to do the whole event as always, you will get credit after a certain amount of damage. You can walk away let’s say after 50% to the next one and still get credit. Like always.
^ also dont stand around continuing to kill stuff after the event finishes (normally you can run away as soon as the final lot of minions spawn and the charge melts)
(edited by Linguistically Inept.6583)
(Debuff for example – Any chest rewards less for x amount of time after using portal)
+1
fix please.

… if the bar is over and they’re still at aetherblade events; thats when you rag on them
That was the point of this thread. People were hanging around the aetherblade events after the bar was gone because a couple of commanders wanted to farm the champions.
We passed the final wave but only had a few seconds left, didn’t even have time to waypoint to scarlet before the timer ended.
And I’m all for “Doing what you want”. But that doesn’t mean you have the right to disrupt an event because you think its more profitable to fail.
i know; but i mean people in game on the overflows ive been on have been heckling commanders doing aetherblades whilst the aetherblade bar is still up, which is what the OP doesnt do enough to explain imo (in fact it seems to do the opposite and imply all aetherblade farming is bad… which isnt correct and could lead to the heckling i keep seeing in map chat)
However, I would drop the Healing Spring and replace with Troll Unguent
never drop healing spring unless you’re solo roaming

Looks like a fairly standard apoth build using axe/dagger & sword/torch. Your lucky he was using felines because all that build needs is a bit of hard cc so he can have a couple seconds to dump every condition on you at once. He wasn’t lacking condition damage, he just lacked the cc to hold you in place, therefore missing many skills.
Heh, I wasn’t the Thief. I ran across the video in the forum and became curious. It seems pretty tanky. The regen and protection, what are those from?
protection from http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Companion%27s_Defense as far as i could tell
regen could be from lots of places but..

if a commander or two decide they would rather farm aetherblade champions then it wastes time and leads to failing the invasion.
can i just point out that you have to complete the aetherblade wave (and molten alliance) along with the three waves of minions to spawn scarlet… i keep seeing people in map shouting at commanders at aetherblade spawns whilst the aetherblade bar is still up…
… if the bar is over and they’re still at aetherblade events; thats when you rag on them
for?
the first build doesnt look viable for anything but pve…(will die so quickly in wvw and longbow isnt great in dungeons)
for wvw you will need more survivability
… And you didn’t stop to consider that they might do exactly that in the future?
or they might not; in which case a suggestion to do it is good
yeah i’ve seen it outside of preview and it’s that high up for most races as far as i know, definitely for humans
ive only seen two; one on a human (though she had it out at the time) and once (well; several times) on a charr… which didnt look so… awkward… but i guess thats because of charr posture
… i should probably post this in suggestions then?
I didn’t know monitors with that aspect ratio still functioned. I’d assumed they’d all rusted out by now.
Everything is fine on a 1080 screen.
couple of dead pixels but aside from that; still going strong ;]
… oddly enough its the only part of my PC i havent replaced… ever
i know theres a lot of skins that have that annoying line where the body doesnt exist… but this one has been bugging me for months (i love the armour set but… eh)
the front bit is behind the belt(thing)
the front bit goes up higher than it seems like it should
the back bit isnt properly connected (which is made even more obvious because theres a gap so you can see the inside of your characters legs whilst walking)
id assume (since the front thing appears in front of the belt thing on slimmer chars) all this is related to bulkier chars
does it really appear this far up the back (as shown in preview)?
ive seen it on other races and it doesnt seem to be… but ive never seen a sylvari with it… so id like to know if its placed as ridiculous as that before commiting myself to it

get there faster and do more damage
Question: “I have this problem, how do I solve it?”
Answer: “Stop having the problem.”These kinds of responses help nobody. Go somewhere else.
OP, the only advice I can offer is to look for a party to join. Either bring some friends, or ask in map chat and self invite. If you’re in a party you just have to hit the mob once, and it will add your damage to a cumulative total based on the entire party. You will probably still miss some tags if you show up late, but your chances will improve.
I personally feel that the damage-based tagging is annoying and inherently flawed, and it wouldn’t be a problem if the major, most rewarding content didn’t revolve around following a zerg but we’re stuck with it. Hope this helps.
well condition builds are near worthless in zerg situations; so having the wrong equip is the problem (‘do more damage’)
… its like saying that you keep dying in wvw because you’re full zerker melee training
this is getting ridiculous, cant we hide some of these?
(and the clockwork chaos tab kepts closing itself whilst i was doing map completion)
The big suggestion seems to be that axe #1 and #2 should cleave. Just repeating that here.
and hammer…
the speech bubbles also appear from that location
so is there maybe something that can be done for condition builds that arent berseker?
get there faster and do more damage
Make SB 1200 range and LB 1500 range default. Remove Eagle Eye trait and start making traits that aren’t gimmick garbage.
eagle eye is also +5% damage…
it barely phases good players
works well against rangers and MM necros (and soloing camps)
works well against bad players (which is surprisingly useful if you get ganked, because often half of them suck)

Do you still not want boon strip?
i didnt say i didnt want boonstrip, i said (or typed) that i dont see why (in its current implementation) it would cause boonstrip or cleanse
- if rangers ever got boonstrip id like to see it on a trait or pet active ability (like http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Paralyzing_Venom)… except… that probably wouldnt work well with zergs unless it was an ranger/aoe buff… but then what kind of pet could do that (and would it be OP?… probably)
I’d be kitten ed…
While I do feel that’s all too much for any single trait, I’d take it… but on the flip side, the only reason anyone goes 30pts in Marks right now is so Signet of Stone works. If this change also coincided with us no longer needing a 30pt trait to make Signets work on the Ranger I’d be happy.
as an LB ranger i go 30 in marksmanship for piercing arrows and eagle eye (because theyre both master tier major traits), and im sure someone ran the math and remorseless is definitely not worthy of GM tier i think it would be a great change for LB rangers… but SB rangers would hate losing piercing arrows
I’m a LB ranger also. I actually forgo eagle eye in favor of piercing arrow and spotter. I use signet for 30. Really wish spotter as a 10pt trait like the power aura is for Warriors.
and http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Strength_in_Numbers
Why not a Grandmaster trait like this:
Increase both bow ranges by 300. All Arrows pierce and deal 5% (or 10%) more damage.
I sure would pick it.would be an even better solution
Right. Warriors have a power one that’s also an adept option. Not sure why spotter needed to be a Master.
i know http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Empower_Allies , i only mentioned guardians because you didnt and it shows a greater disparity (as it is also adept major)
i dont always agree with similar traits being exactly the same for each class, but MM is very master heavy

I find it works fine, the biggest problem with piercing arrows is the # of good traits in Marksmanship :|
You dont need to target the furthest away character, it does help, but really its more about positioning than anything…

Ranger’s one-handed sword has more mobility than greatsword. The leap is on an 8-second cooldown instead of 12 seconds, and the roll and the leap together are about the same distance covered.
Using one-handed sword for travel, a ranger can bind About Face to X and then use that key along with hornet sting and no currently selected target or mouse buttons down to quickly turn back, roll back (forward) and then turn again to leap in the same direction.
Hornet Sting / Monarch’s leap has a shorter cooldown, an evade and a cripple on hit. Swoop just looks cooler. I’ve used one-handed sword to chase down just about anything in WvW short of a sword/horn+greatsword warrior or one of those rocket boot engineers.
The only trouble with using one-handed sword for travel is that… well, frankly it’s super-annoying to hit that button combo over and over.
- again from a wvw perspective -
using hornets sting is very risky (when using it in a zerg or to run away) because it roots you in place for a split second before the roll (leaving you open to being hit with an immob, fear, cripple, steal… w/e)
No, just no. GS is a defensive power weapon. There is no reason to build full out condition damage just for a 3 second burn every 10 seconds from sun spirit.
Then why they have put the Greatsword traits in both Condition duration and Boon Duration line instead of power line? 0.o
condition duration != condition damage
… and poor planning (or balan… an attempt at balance)… you also see trap potency in prec+crit damage yet thats clearly a condi trait
why would you even consider condition damage? it has no damaging conditions (even before last patch… the three bleeds were pitiful) on its weapon skills (yes you can burn with fire swoop or traps… but then why arent you using sword?)
power.
as for alternate weapons you’ll find differing opinions
alot of people like melee rangers (and i see the appeal) using both sword/x and GS
i like LB and GS (swoop being a way to easily close the ‘icky’ damage distance of LB and get up in peoples face or to retreat to a safe distance)If you consider using the Spirits which are all about adding conditions then why not focusing on condition damage even with a Greatsword to make more “condition damage” especially that the Greatsword traits are in condition duration.
condition damage; not condition duration
its poor planning and wasted stats (or they decided to lump GS CD in with sword CD…)
sun spirit is 3s burning every 10s… and no other spirit is condition damage, i see no reason why you wouldnt just go sword
(and power builds make use of condition duration with non-damaging conditions… not thakittens relevant, since you obviously got confused… )

but perhaps instead of a blast finisher, make it create a smoke field or blind foes on impact. Kind of fits the theme of the new hunter’s shot.
“Fire an arrow that explodes on impact, blinding nearby foes (4 sec).”
Combo field: Smoke (5 sec).
i normally dislike rapid fire removal suggestions (because i LOVE using it when someone stealths) but this could be fun
• 6 stacks of bleeding to Maul
i kind of like the idea of it crippling… and ive made my opinion on blast finisher on maul clear in the other two threads
So I would suggest that Signet of the Wild is moved to the healing skills with the active effect being moved to Signet of Stone. The new active effect of Signet of the Wild would be your pet becomes invulnerable (6secs) and heals 25%.
sounds… interesting… but the passive heal would have to be substantially increased
Greastsword is a defensive weapon

Its not…anyone who says it is frankly is wrong.
1 – Offensive
2- Offensive
3 – Offensive (can be used to run away but not its intended use)
4 – Defensive
5 – OffensiveSword is more defensive than that with all the rolling around.
compared to sword it is a defensive weapon
lower dps auto attack with a built in evade
block
control (hilt bash)the only thing defensive about sword is the poison evade (i wouldnt count hornets sting because of the annoying period where your character stands still and throws bees in their face, which leaves you very open)
Comparing 5 abilities to 3 is hardly the same. You have an offhand with a sword…take your pick..want to be defensive go dagger or axe.
one short evade that limits your mobility whilst using it on dagger
one projectile reflect that roots you in place (in wvw thats often a death sentence; some smart person will put an AOE under you) on axe… the pull on axe isnt defensive… i suppose you could use the dagger cripple to kite (well… not on sword obviously) or try to escape
i survive much much much better in wvw zvz with GS than with sword/x
If you think the dagger 4 is a loss of mobility then you obviously haven’t used it with offhand training.
It’s practically a gap closer and if used next to the enemy will not only give you the dodge but will also fling you all the way around to their flank in a fraction of a second.
It’s basically serpent’s but without all the stuff that makes that skill crummy.
and isnt a gap closer offensive? (granted i dont use offhand dagger, because i only use mainhand sword in pve… where offhand WH/axe is better; i even with offhand training i dont see it being usable as an escape)
one short evade that limits your mobility whilst using it on dagger

xAn evade is mobility.
Compared to a block which can be auto attacked off at range. This is an SPVP forum not a WVW one. What you say isn’t logical at all. Its excuses and lack of imagination of how things can be used.
no… this isnt an spvp forum; its a ranger forum… which i can only assume encompasses all aspects of the game from a ranger perspective
im not saying sword/x is bad
im arguing GS is more defensive than sword/x
(also what do you mean by ‘auto attacked off at range’? – i repeatedly use counter attack (after swoop) to get some time in wvw; unless a mesmer summons an izerker on me, or thief/guard teleports to me then its a full block)
i use LB while roaming, the stealth is nice for getting heals or certain attacks off and rapid fire is hilarious against theives
Also pushing people off cliffs, sniping retreaters, covering stealth AoEs and mesmer/thief downed skills with barrage and pushing an enemy into optimal range for throwing an axe offhand.
Lol no. In a 5 man or smaller you would just die to a good group. LB is useless in those fights.
i strongly disagree (unless you stick with LB the whole fight… in which case its a problem of playing badly)

in WvW you bring ONLY two spirits. Sun and Stone. Why? Because protection and heavy burn does more damage then the measly 10% boost.
(average damage from warriors GS auto, in zerker is around 2-4k, depending on crits. That means 2-400 bonus damage. Minimum burn damage with zero condition damage is around 8-900)
you also have to take into account attack speed… burn is limited to 1tick/s say (for example) you put down barrage and then rapid fire, you are hitting considerably more than once per second (this is still assuming frost spirit still has no icd)
… then there the fact that burning doesnt stack… a warrior throws down longbow burst… your sun spirit becomes considerably less useful… a guardian activates VoJ… same… an ele uses fire staff 3… same… and it goes on
Frost Spirit proc does have a 6sec CD/person, unless it got an invisible boost.
Which means frost spirit still have less overall DPS.Burning stacks in duration, taking into account the damage from the initial burn.
im aware of… i mean since it only ticks once/sec hten it takes a certain amount of time for the damage to come through (whilst frost spirit is instant)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Frost_Spirit also seems to indicate that it still doesnt have an ICD
Unless you’re zerging, LB should be in your bank.

Guardians have a blast finisher on a 5 seconds recharge, and yet, rangers cannot have one on a 6 seconds recharge?
this… again… read the god kitten thread, i just explained why it would be unbalanced in the post above yours.
Sorry about the titles. This was kind of an oversight. I am nearly certain that the Gauntlet will return. Possibly as part of the activity rotation someday. Ideally we’ll extend it with more tiers of bosses, gambits, and achievements (and titles). I’m not sure if its possibly to retro-actively associate a new title with an old achievement but I will investigate. If so perhaps we can add some titles when the Gauntlet returns.
I’m sure you will give people the option of easymode and hardmode. So that those that only want the achievements, titles and miniatures will get them and for those that want a challenge will be able to choose a challenge. Give those on hardmode more gold too, i don’t care, just give people a choice in the future.
this arguement always seems stupid to me
