Are you guys referencing the build I linked? Not sure if that is Ascii’s or not, might be I don’t remember. Gear might have changed a bit but if it is his build then I would have directly copied it.

I noticed that a lot of the builds here seem to prefer pure Soldiers gear. Is there a reason for this? Is precision that bad? Can someone explain their reasons as to why you guys seem to believe this?

In my build I am running knights with zerker weapons. Precision is clearly a main stat I use. I am always looking to improve so I look forward to input.

I am not a commander, I don’t feel comfortable leading. But I do play on the front lines of the zerg.

Keep in mind, as mentioned above, that Ascii’s focus on Crit, while certainly having damage in mind, is also used to leverage the on crit sustain effects of Sigils of Blood and Vampiric Precision.

However, this thread got me thinking differently about Crit Chance:

If you subscribe to this person’s theories, it means Ascii’s Power to Precision ratio is rather inefficient when it comes to raw damage output. The ratio in his build is 1.136 (assuming 25 stacks of Bloodlust), where a ratio of 2.032 (2 to 1 Power to Precision) is optimal at his level of Crit Damage (again based on the analysis theory). But again, raw damage is not the sole purpose of Crit Chance in Ascii’s build. Sustain plays a part as well.

So given the above, PVT is the best choice to gain Power as a primary stat but also gain effective health stats. I’ve chosen to mix some PVT into my Power/Stability WvW build, along with Zerk weapons and a hefty dose of Cavalier’s.

My build basically takes Ascii’s play style and overall role, but reduces the focus on crit chance for sustain and instead has a higher Death Shroud focus with a bit more raw damage. Death Shroud plays a larger role in my survivability than crit based sustain and raw Armor.

I’m currently playing around with ways to get 25 DM to leverage the buff to Deadly Strength in the patch next week, but I’m not sure the trait tradeoffs will be worth it.

I don’t know the exact details, but he used to get a bit feisty in WvW match up threads back in the day, which may have earned him some past infractions. I believe those that run the forums recently did a sweep, and banned some individuals that were over a certain number of infractions, past or current. He may have gotten caught up in this supposed sweep, even though he had been extremely tame on the forums for many many months.

My guess is it will pop up at the bottom right similar to rank up chests, and will contain another chest that will appear in your inventory after clicking the accept button. Then double clicking that chest will open it and consume the meta achievement chest key, similar to Black Lion chests. If it works this way, those that haven’t completed the meta and don’t have their keys would still get a chest but wouldn’t be able to open it, which could be a bit like salt on a wound for some heh.

Mmmm 50 world ranks in 48 hours. Not impossible but you’re going to have to play a lot. 50 Supply camps might be tough too. Honestly, much of this will depend on the match your server is in this week and how actively things are trading hands and how active non-NA primetime is (assuming you can play during this times). I disagree. In my mind, losing the buffs when simply downed, and not killed, is what balances them. Yes they cost a lot of rank points, but they’re also very powerful. If it were easier to keep the buffs I might agree with those that feel they are OP. As such, I think the way they work now is fine.

This hasn’t been answered directly, but mostly likely yes. In your example, there would be no 3rd place reward as there is no 3rd place finisher (technically). This is how tournament formats typically work in the event of ties.

Well, it’s not like a guild is going to transfer then immediately stir up trouble or act poorly. Those things tend to manifest themselves over time, usually based on frustration or disagreements of some sort. Anyhoo, best of luck RQ.

I never even worked at the achievements outside of the ruins, and I finished in week 4. Also, I play NA prime, so its not like I did this during lower activity hours. I’m not sure why you’re having issues.

Only 1st place in each league will get a finisher. The rest? Who knows, but I’m not expecting much TBH. Mediocre rewards is probably a good thing actually.

Things will balance out somewhat. They always do. You can’t really take what you see now and apply it to how things will be when Season 1 is over. When the dust settles on this leagues thing, players and guilds will take a couple weeks to see where things stand and make some choices from there.

Your WvW experience dictates your priority in the queue.

That doesn’t mean when a hardcore WvWer wants in he immediately gets in and a less experienced player already in WvW is kicked.

What this means is that if there is a queue then those that are more experienced in WvW get placed ahead of those less experienced.

This may not sound fair at first, but when you need, say, a top commander or guild, in a particular BL than this would help quicken the process.

On topic, no this isn’t a good idea in my opinion. How does one gain experience in WvW if they can’t get in? WvW should be first come first served, no more no less. The main problem with the queue system is it’s clear they don’t work this way.

It changed the ratio (and lost some vitality) but the post didn’t factor in crit damage. I assume as it goes up, the power/precision ratio goes down as more of the damage burden can be met by critical hits. Given the build’s superior crit damage, I wonder if this is fine? If not, going with Reaper’s Might could help even out the difference.

How is the testing on the build going? I was curious about the sustain. The lower armor isn’t fatal considering Lemongrass/Melandrus/FitG but, does it make it much harder to stay in a fight for very long? I am currently running an extremely durable 0/20/20/0/30 FitG well build with 3100+ armor and even then during some long, tough fights, I find myself missing the siphon heals. Maybe I’ll try a fairly wonky 0/10/10/20/30 build but giving up Banshee/Chilling Darkness is tough to do.

Yeah if you look at the golden ratio table, that’s exactly what happens. As you climb the ladder on Crit Damage the ratio declines.

I’ve actually been running with about 2,650 Armor in my setup lately, and even in some pretty intense engagements in our match last week, I was plenty survivable, even with base Vitality. You can’t just bull rush into an enemy’s front line charge, but I’m not sure Necros should be doing that regularly anyways. So I think 2,700ish is doable if you have some experience and know where to be and where not to be. The big question I have right now is how much the Sigil of Blood adds to sustain during a fight. I plan to remove them from my build soon and try to get a feel for it.

You could try this; move points from spite or curses to death as needed. I use hoelbrak for the condi duration and power combo; melandru is just too costly for me as necro is not my main and ascended crafting is killing me. And honestly I should get another energy sigil to replace the force one. I don’t even remember what the sigils exactly were either, lol.

Mine is a perma-swiftness Death Shroud/power build so note that it relies a lot on active defense and is nowhere near as tough as the other builds mentioned here; so you’ll die if you don’t use DS frequently for obvious reasons.

There are a lot of things to like about this build. The armor is a bit thin but as a damage-focused build, this is to be expected. The combo of FitG, SWalk, 1 Sigil of Energy and – condition duration from Hoelbreks (nice synergy with might duration and Spite 5) and food add greatly to the survivability.

I also like the way that it uses Furious Demise in conjunction with a high base crit chance and DS CD reduction which provides, at maximum, 70% crit chance for 5 sec every 7 sec of CD (although it should not be used in this way). IMO, Deathly Perception is vastly overrated because it locks you into a DS-spamming play style and kills the versatility of our core mechanic.

As I said, I think the armor is a touch thin for my tastes. I’d probably go something closer to this.

It’s got significantly more armor and a bit more crit chance but trades it for power and a chunk of crit damage. I think the power issue can be overcome by the inclusion of Bloodlust sigils as the tankiness puts less pressure to have Energy but at the end of the day, this build will not hit as hard as yours. The build is more traited toward small group but can easily be changed to trait Focused Rituals and run wells for effective frontline zerging.

Regardless of the validity of the deeper analysis, it seems to clear to me that you should never have more precision than power.

I’ve run Ascii’s build for a good while, but have been experimenting with different 30 SR builds lately. After reading that crit analysis, and thinking about how I want to play in large group WvW, I came up with the following build …

My targets with the build was 2,000 Power, 30%+ crit chance and 2,800 armor. I fell short on the Armor goal, as getting Toughness without Knights can be a challenge, but I got close and feel comfortable at the 2,700 mark. This also gets close to the “golden ratio” in the above linked thread when you include the 250 power from 25 stacks of Bloodlust. I’m still not decided on sigils, so I through Energy in the build for the time being.

Anyhoo, another option to consider if you like the look of it.

Nothing, they are there and they are to stay. They report your every movement to the other server so you better do something original.

We had a tag watcher in EBG in our match this week, and as a result we were struggling to make any headway. So we had a bunch of people on the map that had a commander tag put it up, then our main force commander tagged down and not long later we owned Stonemist.

When Season 1 is over, we’ll be back to semi-randomized matchups based on server ranking. This ranking +/- a random roll tended to create enough variance where all servers would be all three colors before too much time passed. That color variation isn’t happening during the season because of the way the schedule was designed.

Thank you JQ and SoS for a great match. Those first 3-4 days were so intense. Curse you SG for being so tenacious. Those never ending strikes at Vale (JQBL) while your main force launched assault after assault at Bay really put us to the test and was really fun. I kept looking at SoS’s side of the map and wanting to hit it but you gave us no chance.

No I’m not saying that at all. I’m not sure why you would draw that conclusion from anything I said. I’m emphasizing how much numbers and coverage plays a part on the scoreboard. However, you have to be able to manage, organize, and direct those numbers, as well as have a deep pool of experienced and capable commanders that players enjoy following and know their style.

As Zik said above, NA would simply be closer because coverage would be much less of an issue.

And there was a valid reason for this at the time, which had everything do to with the silly schedule Anet decided on for Season 1, and the expected outcome of future matches, again, at that time.

Regarding this subject, I know I’m a complete outsider, and have no clue about what kind of server politics (if any) exist here, but I would have high doubts that SBI would intentionally give DB their stuff. Late in a match week, it is quite common for a server who has secured the win to reduce effort and participation, sometimes significantly. Other servers will often capitalize on this during periods where they made have a numbers advantage, and especially during a tournament like this where finishing 2nd vs. 3rd matters more to some players/servers.

I’d say it’s most likely the DB had a numbers advantage and struck out on the path of least resistance.

Was a blast running 57 golems into Garri last night on JQBL… Their billions of arrow carts wiped us out as we made a few mistakes but it was some of the most fun I have had in the game yet.

That was so insane. Someone noted in map chat there were “about 30 golems” and they were instantly derided for exaggeration until we arrived and our commander was like, “Um, that’s more like 50. Man the ACs! And I hope someone is screenshotting this.” And about ten people replied that they already had.

I’d love to see some screens if anyone can get a hold of some. Sounded really fun.

Gold league queues will drop on their own, likely somewhere back to around pre-season levels, which was short or none except for reset nights. So to be honest, I don’t see much spreading out happening. However, I think there will be some guild and player movement. Where and why I have no idea, but I think once the dust settles on the season, players will see where things stand and make some decisions based on what they’re after and their continued enjoyment of the game mode.

Agg and NS transferred from JQ to SoS to help JQ put pressure on BG without taking up slots. So far from what I’ve seen is Agg tricking the people of SOS into attacking BG and do you know why? I just thought I’d chime in here, to put this to rest if anyone else thinks Agg or NS gives two rips about Season rewards, and that they transferred to SoS during week 1, with the foresight that in a month they could help JQ beat BG in an important match. Hogwash. While I don’t know the exact reasons, I know it had nothing to do with the above. It was probably to avoid the Season 1 queues and find some fights each night. That’s how they play, backed up by their many many server moves over the past months. Also, they focused JQ on Monday night, which I watched on their stream. They avoided their corner on BGBL, which BG held, and moved straight over to JQ’s corner and hit them repeatedly. Why? Because that’s what they wanted to do that night and thought it would be fun. The previous night, they focused BG and handed JQ some of our structures. Again, because that’s what they decided would be fun that night.

From my perspective, having Agg/Ns tag team Omega Golem rushing with you last night made it really challenging but, still playable. Having that fly hacker in Hill’s right after was a bit much. Kinda’ suckes the fun out of WvW when people take it that far. It’s just not worth it. I kept playing but, just went through the motions.

I watched some of their stream last night and the Hills siege. They really preyed on your militia until you rallied enough of a zerg to push them out before breaching inner. While I was able to watch anyways .. dunno what happened later. Not sure why they chose to go after you guys last night, but I guess the same could be said for why they went after us the previous night. They’re having fun their way I guess.

I didn’t hear about Superman making a cameo though. Sorry about that. Hopefully no damage was done.

With all due respect, when the season started we were definitely the least stacked and lowest ranked tier 1.

And even around 2am server time this morning, there were no Qs on SoS and JQ BLs. That’s why week 1 is the most memorable foe me because it showed BGs commitment and dedication to wvw despite having the least favorable odds. For many of us, it’s not the prize that we cherish but rather the journey.

My servermate took this screenshot minutes before week 1 leagues started, this was prior to ZD’s joining as well. Regardless, good job on the win, but to state BG wasn’t already stacked couldn’t be further from the truth,

I think he got caught up in a recent forum account review sweep, where I believe accounts with a certain number of past infractions were reviewed and banned. I don’t know the details but it was something along those lines I think.

Anyhoo, as a fellow Necro player I think Ascii’s banning hurt the forums more than helped.

I don’t think many people get it. JQ has done poorly during the week, always has. Those on BG that fought us over the weekend know that Ge, MERC, ATM, FOO, etc were pulling incredibly long hours to just keep us even in score, NA prime were logging on up to 5 or 6 hours earlier to help pick up when Sfeee, Waha, and Tarkus log off. We have no major EU presence, and thus, when NA logs on to paper towers and keeps, it’s pretty hard to rally off that because BG also has a good NA presence. BG seems to be pulling long hours as well to keep our SEA down, which has worked. Otherwise, the score right now would be much closer. It’s a strategy that worked, and it’s still 4 days too early to say it’s over.

Some BG seem to think we gave up, I say, quit being so modest, BG is a good server, as is JQ, as is SoR. There’s a reason we’re all in T1. You can claim whatever you like, but no one will ever understand the one link all 3 servers have, but the ones who have played WvW for so long.

If anything, at least in the end I can say I actually enjoyed this week, it’ll most likely be the only enjoyable week of this 7 week season.

Very good post. Definite +1. I think it’s a very accurate picture of how things are playing out and why in very simple terms.

I will also agree that so far this match has been extremely intense, competitive and fun. I honestly can’t remember a match that has been this intense, including week 1 this season. It will likely go down as one of my all time favorites. Much respect to JQ.

Scoot. Dude. Do you realize that’s the 4th time you’ve posted that screenshot on these forums? I think I counted 8 times you posted “muahaha wait till we get revenge in week 7 BG, karma bros” before I gave up. It’s like a broken record.

I don’t know why this has to be said again, but that full status lasted all of an hour from what I saw, and we haven’t been listed as full since. For all we know it was a system glitch. Assuming it wasn’t however, BG has always had a very large PvE population. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, more potential players in WvW does not equal more players in WvW.

You’re not even in this match so you really have no idea how the numbers are matching up. I do, and there are many facets to what is going on and how weaknesses are being covered and advantages being exploited (regarding BG). Last night during SEA was the tipping point in my eyes. Matches like this where two servers are giving it everything they got, it often boils down to which server’s militia breaks first and who can get the enemy commanders to become less enthused about the situation first.

Quick update to this if anyone cares, but it looks like Devon changed the wording in the mid-season update regarding the Dolyak finisher. Instead of what is quoted above, it now reads …
