So, basically, not only can my small guild not even claim it’s own Guild Hall with it’s 2 or 3 people (family – pretty much the only people I can stand any more), but we have to get to guild level 40 and get an insane amount of materials – like completely impossible within the expected lifetime of this game (my kids will be through college before I was able to grind out all materials)- in order to fully experience the game.

2-3 people aren’t even a full party you can’t call them a “guild”

We did before the change. So why can’t we now?

Feels like griefing now.

Guild rewards for holding things aren’t really appropriate since it adds an element of competition within your team. WvW at its core hold a simple assumption that all the guys on your team are, like all players in a PvE server, working toward the same goal.

Guilds should be employing their buffs and tactics in support of the team, not at the expense of team members not in their guild.

I believe the following changes would reward all current modes of play, for havok to zerg scale play, while encouraging and rewarding teamwork and playing to win rather than encouraging metgaming and flipping. This system incentivizes helping your team hold and upgrade objectives as the primary reward activity, and uses an overall participation metric to administer rewards, ensuring that no matter if you’re killing yaks, flipping sentries, or simply solo roaming, if you’re helping, you’re getting loot, and the better your team does, the better you do as well.

  • Remove all loot gained by killing other players and for completing events. Retain the wxp rewards for these activities.
  • In stead, use the HoT map meta system, with a twist. It has 5 tiers. Tiers 1 and 2 represent ownership of assets in SM, and tiers 3-5 represent owning all assets in all borderlands. Thus, taking assets from an enemy raises your team’s WvW meta level, and lowers theirs. Basically, owning more stuff, now matter what map it is one, means more loot for your entire team, in the same manner as owning more stuff increases your score.
  • Grant participation for defend, escort, and attack events, as well as for player kills and building/destroying siege.
  • Participation is account, not map based.
  • Participation decays at a rate of 10% every 15 minutes.
  • Every 15 minutes (when the score ticks over) grant all players with 100% or more participation a loot chest containing resources, badges, etc. You do not gain additional loot for percentages over 100%, this simply serves as a buffer so you can “overfill” participation, creating a buffer to keep people legitimately participating in wvw from losing out on rewards if they were doing recon or defense for a bit without any action.
  • Upgraded objectives add bonus loot/materials to the reward chests for the entire team, as do claiming guild’s bonuses (ex. the magic find buff applies to the reward chests, and stacks for every objective.) This means that holding a large number of objectives and upgrading them results in more and more loot for your team.
  • WvW loot chests should grant all materials required for hall upgrades and tactics in addition to normal loot. This means that playing WvW well, supporting your team, and playing to win also means being rewarded for it and allowing you to upgrade and deploy tactics effectively.

NO

Adding the Silverwaste system or the HoT system would be good for additional incentive but all of the old rewards need to stay or people will just say screw it completely. Not everyone can play for long enough periods of time to get those earned rewards and what happens if they DC right before a tick after they were just on an awesome killing spree? I’ll tell you what happens, they lose the reward because you get booted out of the mist and back to Tyria from a DC. Which is a surefire way to guarantee players in this buggy, laggy, game never participate in WvW again.

So I repeat NO. Its a bad idea to remove the current rewards. WvW needs the rewards boosted anyways so an additional reward system based on PPT and participation would be very well accepted. Believe me I think adding a PPT/participation system is great idea but it has to be in addition to and not as a replacement to existing rewards.

[…]

Clearly you are on to something, that’s why things like the grub event, the harpy, and the new bl are so successful….

The reasons nobody does those have nothing to do with them being “PvE”:

  • Their rewards are crap. You will often get more hero badges flipping a camp that killing the grub. The highest stack I’ve ever got from that thing was 3 in the chest. 3. For killing a freaking champion with legendary stats that…
  • …takes too long and too many people. You need a zerg to do them in any reasonable time. And zergs should not be wasting their time with something that…
  • …has nothing to do with any of the WvW battles. What I suggest are reasons to stick around locations. Guarding them, looking out for enemies, making some time with siege against attacking enemies until help arrives. Those events are reasons to leave locations unguarded. Pointless.

Now, if the grub, the arboreal spirit and some third creature added to the third corner (e.g.: a large wyrm) didn’t take so long and so many people, and defeating them turned them it into a siege beast that will go to the closest enemy tower and start attacking its gate, then maybe it could be a bit worth it. Because it’ll have something to do with the fight.

Same with the skritt and centaur camps in alpine, capturing those should give you mercenaries that go raid the nearby camps and towers if enemies have them.

Veteran events? Defeat the veteran, the veteran follow you around for a while, helping you fight.

No event in WvW should be a pointless waste of time away from the war. All should have some sort of advantage in the war on success, getting one more source of score, speeding up upgrades or supply lines or giving movement advantages, enlisting help, … anything, but something.

You mean like the quagans did before they removed them from alpine map in favor of the garbage bloodlust ruins. I can agree with you that making those PVE events worth while in the war is a good idea. But they turned everything into one big pve k train just like the stupid EOTM map. There has been tons of great ideas on how to make WvW better but the people at arenanet love the zerg k train. So that’s what we get.

In summary, it’s NOT a problem with the maps. In my opinion the maps are fine.

IMHO its all of what you wrote plus the maps. Reverence documented whats wrong with the map design and the same points have been made in other threads.

I agree, I have mentioned things that can be done to help the current desert map but, even though I thinks its a beautiful map, it really needs a complete overhaul. It is just to big for current populations and increasing the cap just means larger zergs which I do not think anyone wants. There is lots of other things wrong also and yes Reverence does a great job of documenting them. Hopefully they not just listen but actually hear what we are saying.

IMO the new desert maps are made for new HoT mechanics and much higher populations but they made it so there isn’t any real reason to spread out. So if you raise the player cap it will just mean larger zergs. I have a feeling that when creating the map the designer was using gliding, which would totally make the map have a different feel, and then someone said “nope, can’t do that in WvW or Pvp” but left the map the way it was.

Like I said I another thread, they need to move the southern tower WPs back to the keeps and make them tier 3 upgrades. Having waypoints that close to the invading WPs means they don’t mean jack to the invaders and if the home team has the WPs already then there is no reason for them to be porting down there. Its like a design mistake that got through on accident. Like the guy in charge of placing them didn’t realize it was something that goes in the large keeps and nobody corrected him. I would also make it so the upgrades were manual with a gold cost. All 3 of these would help to make things strategic again and not just there for EOTM K train style flipping. You would have more soloist running around starting upgrades and roamers and havoc teams taking the towers and camps for the strategic values, even if its still a pain in the butt to take keeps. All while making keeps have a lot of strategic value for holding them again.

I also agree that something needs to be done with the guild system. That is a huge change that disrupted many WvW guilds and pushed many players into quitting. Telling people to go big guild or go home makes a lot of people choose to go home. Which is bad for everyone.

they need to move the southern WPs into the keeps. Having them attached to the towers is stupid. What does the home team need WPs all the way down there for. And the invading teams already have waypoints 30s walking distance from those towers. Having the WPs in the keeps is strategic for all teams. Plus WPs need to be part of tier 3 upgrades so that it gives teams a reason to fight and hold something again. Some of the best battles I was in were defending or attacking a keep because the waypoint was coming soon. I also agree with reverting upgrades to a manual process but not having a gold cost with it.

I think those 3 changes would bring back some of the missing strategy. Zergs, roamers, havoc teams, and soloist would all have uses again.

Relax folks , this is only the beginning :)

Lol. I have plenty of experience with forums, and all I’m doing is agreeing with the OP that, as some of you have said, this funnel of hatred can be further condensed to individual POSTS. We don’t need five posts with similar titles to “Precursor crafting is terrible”, or “2MuchGrind4Masteries/Elite Specs (before change)”. I’m sure I wouldn’t want to be a forum mod if every time I open up a forum page it’s all complaints. Yes, feedback is nice, but I know if all I see are complaints I know I’m not going to be excited to go to work :P All I’m saying is that we can tone it down a bit. But I suppose there’s no use in talking about it here, because people actually reading this topic and thinking about this issue are not the same people that we are talking about.

Actually we do need more than 1 post or else people like you will brush it under the rug as “only one person” feels this way. With out multiple post from lots of people how can you tell if its an issue or one guy trolling. So it only makes sense that if you see something and you agree or disagree that you let it be heard. To do otherwise is to say everything is perfect and not care of the state of the game.

central Tyria mastery points (non-HOT)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

I for one like the way they did it. Mastery points are supposed to be something you work towards, not something freely given. HoT has been out less than two weeks, these masteries are supposed to take time to complete. Play the game, have fun, get what you want first then slowly work towards the others.

A lot of us do not mind working towards things. Like I have already done every Jumping Puzzle in Central Tyria and have map completion on 5 characters and one more that only needs to finish hearts to get it. Pretty much the only thing left for me to do is spend gold on weapon and armor collections. That’s not work its grinding gold. I went through the list trying to find something I can do to earn more Tyria MPs and there isn’t anything. Which is what this thread is about, its almost impossible to finish these lines. The problem lies in the fact that they tried to make up stuff for people to do in Central Tyria to slow us down, when most of us had already done everything in it already. Which leads to them using some ridiculous stuff to do in order to earn MPs. Plus there is the broken MPs that many of us have completed on top of that but do not have credit for which pushes that bar even closer to impossible to complete.

Well, to the op, I partially call BS. I don’t see how you could have accomplished the clearing event to get the guild hall with 2 people. You have to have recruited some friends to help with that.

2nd, most of the guild missions require at least 3 people, so again, you and your wife are SOOL.

3rd, there’s more to just obtaining a guild hall to the game. WvW in particular is totally screwed, as our upgrades and buffs are directly tied to not only guild upgrades, but scribing, which is tied to guild upgrades. There’s no way a small guild can compete with large guilds considering the hundreds of gold worth of items and the massive amount of intagables you can not even buy with gold needed for upgrades.

Oh, and lets not forget the fact that many of us had guilds with everything unlocked for years, but it’s now all gone and will never be accessible.

So, yeah, some of us are allowed to complain and are perfectly justified in doing so.

He admitted he is in another guild and they helped. So yeah his real guild helped him and his wife get their personal guild. Bravo OP, you and your buddies in your main guild all probably helped each other get personal guild halls. Good job, now your real guild has multiple guild halls and arenas available. That’s probably how you got all your shovels also, everyone in the big guild helping each other to get arenas unlocked.

So the key to unlocking guild halls and upgrades for small guilds is to be in a large guild. Makes perfect sense. So we should all be quiet now because its possible for people in large guilds to unlock personal stuff.

Small Guilds, stop complaining about GHls

From a purely factual standpoint, it is though. I’ve pretty meticulously laid out why. Influence costs scaled up as you unlocked things, but earning did not. Your ability to use your upgrades depended heavily on having larger guild populations and more highly active players on a daily basis.

{snip}

These are all statements of fact, not opinion.

Ummm… No, they’re not really. Banner A cost X. Much better Banner B cost Y. Think, oh, XP banner vs Heroes banner or something. The item costs were fixed, not scaled. Those are facts. They had nothing to do with the guild size. If you’d unlocked the pre-requisites & you had the influence, you could buy them.

Whether you think that’s better or worse than the system now? That’s opinion.

If you were a small guild, and you had & you did… You can’t now. Anet took that away. You’ve got to go through a huge grind to unlock the ability to purchase those consumables now; consumables that you had access to before. Now, once you’ve done that, it might well be that the cost for the consumable is the same whether you’re small or huge; X number of Y materials. But for Banner B, which you had access to prior to HoT, you have a kittening great wall to climb over to get the access that you had already unlocked once… Hard for a small guild.

Now that I understand your point a bit better, I think nothing has really changed. Instead of the wall of “I have access to this but need X amount to make it”, we have a wall of “I need X amount to access this, and then I can make it”. That isn’t easier for a small guild, it just puts the same effort in a different, earlier place. If you see what I mean?

No, you don’t have to go through a grind to unlock them if you already had them unlocked. That’s the central point of misinformation I keep seeing.

The acquisition method is only changed for guilds that didn’t already have access to these consumables.

If you had them unlocked previously, you walk in to the guild initiative, and hand the NPC some favor, though one poster has said that NPC is temporarily disabled, that’s how I have been spending all of the excess favor we don’t use for hall upgrades because it’s actually cheaper and faster than making them via the new scribing system, and that level of cheap and easy actually can’t be obtained by new guilds who hadn’t unlocked them in the old system.

You keep repeating that and it’s not true. My guild and many other guilds like mine had +5 supplies unlocked and it’s gone now unless we get a guild hall and grind out all the upgrades to get it back. I can try talking to that temporarily disabled npc till I’m blue in the face, he won’t be giving me back my upgrade even though I had it unlocked.

So maybe instead of repeating your “upgrades aren’t lost” mantra, how about you start reading what other people are saying to you? Not every player wants banners!

Also, not every player wants to have to grind some pve maps to get the materials needed for upgrading guilds halls (silverwastes shovels, anyone?). That’s why the old influence system was superior to what we have now – you could play the content you enjoyed and were still able to upgrade your guild. Now, if you don’t like pve, you’re out of luck. And you keep acting as if the players who complain about the new system were unreasonable.

Guild halls could have been a nice addition to GW2, but instead we got a system that seems to be purely designed to be a gold and time sink.

He is being purposely daft and obtuse so that he can continue supporting anet when he knows he is wrong. I really wish we had a mute or ignore option on the forums, so we could hide certain players comments. I get very tired of being told that our opinion is wrong and we should just all be happy to play the way they tell us to.

I commend the OP’s duprass for establishing and upgrading their own guild hall. That is indeed awesome and deserving of praise, etc.

I am less fond of the OP’s post and especially the title. Instead of saying, “stop complaining, you lazy sourdough batards — it’s not that hard,” the OP could have simply said, “here’s how to build up a two-person guild hall” or “my two-person guild prefers the new system because…” and explained how you did it. There is no need to diminish the efforts of others or to brag about the accomplishment.

tl;dr gz on the guild hall and please consider restarting the thread

The fact that he did not explain how he did it with 2 people leaves doubt. Like you mentioned, the OP could have came here with a detailed description of how he actually did it. Instead he came in like a pompous kitten and said I’m cool and all those that aren’t cool need to bugger off. I think he’s full of it and leaving a lot of how it was really done out of his story.

Idea for scaling guild hall costs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lobo Dela Noche.5127

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

My idea to fix it is to remove all the gold sink from it and put it back to the old way of getting influence. Except this time do not allow gold to be used to buy it. This would make it so that large guild with lots of repped players will advance fast and small guilds can still advance but at a much slower rate. There would be no way to exploit it and both small and large guilds would take a while for the upgrades, its just that large guilds would be done faster.

Firefly mining flute vs watchwork pick

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lobo Dela Noche.5127

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

How about adding an upgrade slot to all unlimited tools and have upgrades available from the gem store (or crafting?) that enhance the tool. For example: change the watchwork pick so it (†by default) comes with a “% chance to mine sprockets” upgrade (†by default: this is to keep the existing owners of the ww pick happy). Other mining upgrades might be “% chance to mine candy corn”, “% chance to increase resource yield”, etc. There would also be upgrades available for the unlimited logging axes and gathering tools.

That would give more outcry than leave them as they are, since Candy Corn is
worth less than sprockets and people would only complain about that.

Oh .. and where i personally would also complain is getting snowflakes that
you must destroy all the time .. lol.

So in the end the only “fair” solution is add sprockets to all types of gemstore picks.

He said make it an option that you the player can choose. So one player might want a candy corn one because he is working towards something. Others may want one that gets sprockets. Any of them could be used and slotted into any of the different harvesting tools. But the WW one would have the sprocket one slotted by default. I get what you are saying about sprockets being worth more right now so why put anything else in them, but that may not always be the case. Plus just having the option to make any of the other infinite tools able to get special mats would be pretty awesome.

Get friends, do the hero points.

Maybe, who knows you’ll actually find someone or a group of people you enjoy playing with. Which is the entire point of those challenges. They aren’t designed as solo content. The jungle was designed as group content from the group up.

Oh, put a sock in the passive-aggressive “be more social” mantra. I’ve been playing this game for over a year now (albeit with a few breaks), I’ve done almost entirely open world content, and in all of that “group” content, I probably have an actual conversation 1 out of every 1,000 events, if that.

Most of it is “thanks” for rezzes, if that, or “thanks for the help” (and variations of) if people help each other out on a HP. Unless you go out of your way to go in teamspeak or something, the game isn’t even friendly for getting to know people in open world because the nature of event chains means that much of your time spent is killing, surviving, and running to the next event. Time for typing out words for long conversations is rare. Voice chat is far easier to talk in while playing, but the game itself does not encourage this in any way.

So don’t give people crap about making friends, as if they are asocial losers. The so-called “group” content (90% of the events and virtually every HP) doesn’t even require social interaction. It just requires the presence of other players.

Don’t conflate social and group because, believe it or not, they are not the same thing in this context. Raids will be a different story, I’m sure, and raids are true social group content. Open world content in this game provides a feeling of solidarity. That’s most of what it does.

So let me get this straight you really don’t get that if you have friends you can get those “Hard Hero Points” done ?

Gotcha, funny how people want hard content then are so very quick to want it nerfed to the floor. Either get friends or get good enough to solo the content

Don’t tell someone to Get Better™ and find more people to play with if you’re not also offering to help them.

Doesn’t seem like any of them are asking for help. All i see is the straight out refusal to participate as a group and the demand that Anet change content so they can solo it.

Maybe if they’d ask people would help. Just sayin’

When someone says they sat around asking map chat for help, it does kind of sound like they are ya know asking for help. Just saying.

Guys, why are you searching reasons to grind, just play the game, I am at the 2nd map, I even didn’t rush to open other maps.

Just play the game, you will get the masteries one day.

Personally, I do META events until I am bored, then go to fractals when bored from those, when I am done with them some PVP, when that is done some Teqahl/Karka Queen gold rush, when that is done, legendary hunt….

There is no reason to grind like mad to get that 160 MPs, play the game you will get there one day eventually.

How about you play your way and I will play mine. I don’t care how you play or what you do. Just because you don’t have a reason to do something doesn’t mean every one else feels the same way or even should feel the same way. We all enjoy doing different things, one persons playstyle is not right or better than anyone else’s. So keep that crap about how people should spend their own time to yourself.

Now with the new update stuff that is gone! The way I played my hunter isn’t possible anymore because its goneeee.
I don’t care If i need to use 2 complete traits for it to make my spirits follow me just give it back!
Same with my necro, lost some skills I loved but I can get over that!

I bet alot of people have the same problems, we paid for this game you’re now giving out for free!
Let us at least feel a bit more special then giving us a title and a suit! Let us be able to keep the old traits….

I bet there alot of people who agree with me.

You know what really sucks? People are buying TVs that are bigger and better than the one I bought three years ago for hundreds of dollars less. Do you think I should cry about that?

When the new TVs came out, the old ones didn’t stop letting you view certain channels, disable input/output ports, or remove any apps from them. The old TV works like it did when you bought it. That is what is kittening people off and it would kitten off every TV owner if when the new models came out your old TV started losing functionality that it already had for 3 years.

I’d like to thank you for making it easy to illustrate the point. Really good choice on the TV comparison.

Unless we’re talking specifically about when analogue TV was shut down and everyone had to buy a digital TV, or separate digital box, to keep watching the channels they already had.

That’s a more akin to what happened in hellgate London. They shutdown the servers and then sold the game to a new company and everyone had to buy the game again to play online. Those that bought the original game could still play the game solo though. Kind of like those with an analog TV could still watch things on DVD or VHS or through a cable box. They just lost the ability for over the air transmissions.

On the other hand my newer TV supports EPG and the old one doesn’t. Both still work for their primary purpose but having that program guide built in is nice …

and then the new model comes out and your TV that supports EPG no longer has that feature because if you still want it you have to get the new model. This is the problem, not that the new one has new features. The issue is that the old one has lost features for no reason except to make the new one look better.

Small Guilds, stop complaining about GHls

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

What I’m saying is absolutely true. Guild systems were not designed to make solo bank guilds, or provide “duos” with banners and the like in the first place. The revamped system simply reinforces the idea that a “small guild” is intended to be at least a party’s worth of players, and even then is extremely generous with those requirements, allowing use and progress of all systems to be done solo, including guild missions. You will make progress no matter your size, you simply won’t make it as fast. In this respect it is no different than the old system.

If you can PUG for a dungeon, or a fractal, or LFG for a map taxi, you can do the same one time for a guild hall. I’ll personally help you with this if you can’t find anyone else.

You can still get banners. They’re just more expensive. If you had banners unlocked before, go buy them with favor in the guild initiative. If you didn’t, go level a guild hall and a scribe like any size guild also has to.

Again, the difference in the new system is that you have to put in the work wheras in the old system you didn’t have to put in any work and just got influence and the selection of things it provided on top of the rewards you already got for playing content.

That system, as I’ve said repeatedly, was broken and skewed extremely in the favor of guilds with massive player rosters. Now the only thing skewed in the favor of those guilds is progression speed but not the ability to progress or the ability to actually utilize earned upgrades

Funny thing is I don’t recall reading “anywhere” that such changes were being applied to the game when I pre-ordered HOT (4 Copies I might add for the whole family).

Had I known prior, it would have influenced my decision…and saved me a few bucks.

There are some really cool things about the expansion that I do like, but the truth be told I’ve not even bothered to log in for close to a week now because it seems like everything with HOT has slanted or nerfed things in such a way as to funnel players “more towards buying gems”….

I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m over getting into a game just to see my time and investment turned upside down by an industry that can’t even be bothered to include us in the loop before making dramatic changes.

Its time for players to have some protections. We are after all what determines the success or failure of a game.

The argument that ingame economic decision are made from the lens of encouraging people to buy gems is just plain wrong due to the basic nature of the gem exchange.

Specifically, the more people that buy gems and convert them to gold, the cheaper it becomes to buy gems with gold.

No amount of nerfing gold gain or increasing gold costs encourages or rewards converting gems to gold.

With admin privileges and a couple of key strokes I’m sure any of that can be altered just like in every other MMO that has admin functions for economy adjustments..
not to mention there is nothing balancing, devaluing, or adjusting those dollars they are taking in. Its pure profit.

With admin priveledes and a couple keystrokes they could send also charge your preferred payment method thusands of dollars, sell your personal details to a number of direct avertising firms, or delete everything on your account, strip you naked, and jump your characters off a fatal cliff.

Yet they don’t.

If the basis of your argument is “well they could do something underhanded” that’s not really much of an argument.

Do you apply the same logic to every service which you pay for and every product you buy, or is it reserved for this one specifically?

You are very naïve if you think anet won’t adjust the rates manually to make money. Like I have said before, if everyone quit buying gems with gold today and I wanted to buy a million gold with real money, the gold would be there. To think otherwise is just foolish.

Like it or not, it’s smart business and it works. You all should know as well as I do that some people will get what they can for free for as long as they can. It’s the companies job to keep dollars rolling in. Not to give away everything for free. I don’t think that’s reasonable.

If Anet didn’t do this and did push people to buy the game, a lot of people wouldn’t buy it. But there are things in the game to “encourage” the purchase of the expansion.

Now, I can see why it would annoy someone that they would have to pay after 3 years to keep up with the current game. And I assume some people might even leave the game over it.

But the game has gone free to play and probably for each person who leaves, another few will buy the new game. It’s good business sense.

Yes, but has a problem, once we finish HoT content,we will only have HoT proffitable options. If not fixed we will get less options to play and get proportionate rewards at the same time.

It toke them a lot of time to fix dungeons rewards (they werent perfectionated more since the paths gold rewards acording to difficulty werent finished, they said they were going to do it but didnt in the end), they just destroyed part of their previews advance and as alredy said, limitate players options in the long run for HoT players and inmediatly for core players.

Its smart bussines for inmediate proffit, in the long term the loss of image they get for it and the lower in the welfare of the general population, plus the lack of improved welfare for HoT users (they changed old prenerfed core options for HoT options) will not make the game grow.

What you give as an example its exactly the typical Sales departament vs Marketing departament problems you have in companies when the bussines strategy isnt ruled for long term porpouse, Sales push for inmediate profit in detremint of future rents.

Its a fairly common problem, but history, experts and theory have probed that long term its the way to go for sucefull companies.

Its sad they did it, what they needed to do its make HoT so good that core users want to buy it more, not risk their long term image and players population.

Exactly, with guild wars 1 anet never needed to nerf anything in a previous version to make the new one worth buying. Which led to anet getting such a positive reputation and why GW2 was such a success at launch. It is awful what anet has become and what they are doing to this game.

All that’s nonsense. I’ve played a lot of mmos and I’ve never seen one cripple (or in the case of guild halls completely remove) their older content to get people to buy their next expansion.

“Now, I can see why it would annoy someone that they would have to pay after 3 years to keep up with the current game”

You clearly don’t see because that’s not what people are upset about..

The title of this post is that Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns is a pay wall. Well yeah, that’s sort of the point.

Because you know, if you WvW you get the maps for free and if you SPvP you get that for free, and not everyone loves harder content or raids, so Anet would end up giving Guild Wars 2 away for free without getting some people to buy the expansion. Which makes it a pay wall.

Now, there aren’t really a lot of ways to do this. One way is to make it so that the best places to farm are in the new areas. This makes sense.

If people aren’t willing to support the game, that’s okay, but to suggest that a company is wrong for trying to push the expansion?

Shrugs. I suppose they could have locked SPvP and WvW behind the paywall, instead. Maybe I’m not a glass is half empty kind of guy.

Nowhere did I suggest they were wrong for trying to sell their expansion. Strawman much?

I said people are upset because Anet intentionally crippled older content and in the case of guilds removed it, repackaged it, and put it back in the expansion which we obviously have to pay for.

That’s why people are upset.

And you honestly think the best way to get people to buy expansions is to cripple older content instead of having the new stuff stand on it’s own merits? That’s some backwards logic, shared, unfortunately by Anet staff.

Yup, by anet nerfing all the old content it shows what they thought of the new content in the expansion. When a company doesn’t have faith in their own product there is something wrong.

Why have kill veteran and bloodlust claiming in WvW dailies when they no longer exist making it so there is only 1 or 2 WvW dailies.

Each game mode needs more working options. The fix should not be to lower one and bring the other up. It should be to bring them all up to the same level so that there is 8 choices for all. I never heard anyone complain about to many choices.

A thing that would help stop K training is making it worth while to hold onto a site. Something like participation rewards they added to the new maps that would include PPT into it. So that point ticks really matter the higher you get them and event completion is needed so people can’t just AFK. Have event completion and ppt both factor in to the reward. This way you would really try to get your ppt up as high as possible and players would be very active in attacking and defending to get participation % up.

Also the current map layout and design makes it so you are better off K training. It needs to be redone. Its a beautiful map but the design is not good for healthy WvW, unless you consider the K train healthy.

Edit to add: I would still keep the rewards for taking a site. It would make WvW lame if anet took away those rewards and added them to a system like I mentioned. Keep the current rewards as is for short term goals so people that jump on for 30 min to kill some time roaming still get rewarded and have the new ppt/participation for extra incentive for those that play for the duration.

Warframe did the Dojo building in their game right:

http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Clan#Clan_Tier

As the table shows, you can have different sized clans based on the biggest barracks build in your Dojo. Depending on that, you can invite more people, but at the same time all rooms you can build will increase in cost by the same multiplicative factor that got applied to the maximum amount of players your clan can hold.

If you are a small 10 player clan you will pay the minimum for each room. If you build barracks for the next clansize you can have 30 players but you will also pay 3 times the amount for rooms.

Rooms have building time, so reducing the clansize just to build a single room from 1000 to 10 will require like a week or so to rebuild back to 1000 max players and in the meantime 990 of your players will be without access to the clan or its dojo (which is required for research of new items).

As a member of a sub 10 player clan in that game, I have access to a massive dojo with every relevant research facility, tradings posts etc.
And we already have enough materials to build decorations and decorative room.

A similar system should be used in GW2.

My clan totally exploited that system.

We built the entirety of the functional dojo at minimum size and cost, and only then upgraded barracks and added everyone else. Not only that, warframe, as a f2p game supported completely by microtransactions, actually allowed us to speed track it through buying the puzzle piece thingies directly from the cash shop.

It’s an extremely easy system for large clans to exploit, and did nothing but make it even easier for large clans to subvert the cost.

I think DDOs system, after quite a few growing pains, is pretty good. Every guild can get a guild ship and slot in upgrades and buffs. They can even upgrade the ship to have more slots for those things. But it’s really hard for small guilds to get the best ships and keep every buff and upgrade running with out playing 24/7. It is a good balance and it is not really exploitable. There are lots of games they could have gotten ideas from.

They should have made it so that if a guild had everything unlocked before and then did the expedition and got a guild hall, that it then would have everything unlocked that it did before. And for new guilds or guilds that did not have anything the cost would be equal to what it was previously and used the same currency. There was really no reason to recreate the entire system. That was done so they could add some huge grind to it and only to add huge grind.

Everything a small guild needs is available for less than 200g. An expedition costs 100g and you can buy the merchant and repair station for less than 100g with no other materials needed besides favor. If you want more than that, you need to play the game just like everyone else.

Just because you “want it now” doesn’t mean you’re entitled to it. You have to work for it like everyone else.

We did, and managed to get a full unlock on our guild eventually. And then it got taken away from us.

That’s the part you seem to be missing. It is a massive grind just to get to the point where our guild was two months ago.

Yes, i think i am entitled to the things i have already worked for.

You know, you are complaining like you are the only one whose full upgrade guild got taken away.

There are more than 4,000 guilds (according to anet statistics that claimed guild halls) and how many % of those guilds complained?

eermm what’s your point and what are you trying to represent.

4000 guilds is nothing in comparison to how many guilds are in the game.. on any given hour you can count a 100’s of different guilds trying to recruit in map chat.
Maybe now ask yourself how many of those 4000 guilds have 10 or less members.. I don’t mean solo guild banks.. actual guilds with small friends/family members.

Bottom line is you have no clue what your on about and what the stats really show.

I will stick my neck out and say the vast majority of those 4000 guilds are much larger in size and therefore have a much easier time in claiming, unlocking and upgrading.
No one said it has to be easy win for small guilds.. the same level of difficulty can exist based on appropriate scaling of requirements and difficulty without having to resort to ripping players off with an expansion promising new features then effectively taking away what they had already achieved and locking it behind further gold sinks and grindfests and forcing guilds to start over… desperate attempts at player retention and gem sales with kind of mullarkey will likely only force players to grow discontent and leave, something my guild discussed only last night.

My daughters and I quit playing for almost 2 years because of the direction of this game and we are pretty upset with this expansion. The expansion took a lot away that we already had and just added a huge grind on to it and called content. Its lame. Its lazy. Its greedy. I really hope anet listens and fixes these issues like they did with the elite specializations. We are going to wait a little bit longer but we are looking at alternatives.

PS, its not about wanting stuff for free. Many of us are upset that they take stuff away and lock it behind more grind and paywalls, then call it new content. I’m pretty sure many of the largest guilds find it Bull Manure that they have to unlock everything again but they will do it begrudgingly because they can. Not because they want to.

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

Why does Anet do half the things they do for WvW?

I think it’s a number of factors:

1. They love cheese; like stealth, Golems, falling to your death, ambient creatures, etc.
2. They don’t really know what to do with WvW.
3. Therefore in their minds, the more cheese the better.

+1 man!
Add to this all other dull, stupid and not WvW crap like spikes getting from the floor, teleporting lords, lava pounds, auto turrets, bouncing air, no falling damage shrines, etc… I hoped so much WvW is about large scale player vs. player fighs, like PvP, just with greater numbers… Apparently I was so wrong…

so a plain square is all u guys wanted? the new maps are have alot in commin with GW1 gvg maps with those mechanics, except stealth fountian offcourse.

so they should have made some GvG maps and added that game mode. Honestly I preferred the original alpine map with Quagan Island. I hated the bloodlust claiming and I hate all the cheese they add that only helps a larger server snowball. I swear the people making these choices are just trolls because these ideas are just for trolling.

I mean, seriously. Why would anyone care?

If you don’t like it, you don’t have to do it that way.

Because its game-breaking and it gives them advantage over others in… oh wait.

Nothing game breaking about it. You have the option to do the same thing. The thing that all you complainers don’t get is that for Tyria Masteries the hard part is getting the Mastery Points not the XP. There is a crap ton of xp farms in Tyria. Nerf COF XP and they will go to silverwaste or drytop or Orr or a bunch of other areas. Getting the MPs is a PITA unless you are rich and can buy out all the collections. If Tyria MPs were more available then maybe all the complaints would have some merit. As it is the complaints do not have any merit. I mean come on, someone does nothing but grind mastery XP for hours with out getting any other kind of reward while you go play what ever mode you want and get XP and loot and tokens are whatever is rewarded in your chosen game time. They are giving up all the other rewards to get mastery XP.

The HoT Masteries are just the opposite. HoT MPs are easy to get, the xp grind is not as easy though. Funny how that worked out. Either way there is some grind with both. Some will finish it off faster than others, just like everything else in this game.

If Masteries = Progression, make them per

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

What I’m so baffled by here is that masteries are end-game progression. End. Game. Progression. If we could blow through this in two days there is no end game progression. People would get bored too quickly, and there would be nothing left to work towards. The reason people see this as such a grind is because they feel they are being forced to level these masteries, and go out of their way to do just that. But honestly, if you stop for just a second, and go play the expansion you’ll unlock masteries in no time. Not to mention the fact that the story doesn’t require any rediculous high level masteries to unlock, and most places on the map are accessible without high levels of masteries. Just play the game guys. Play the game.

I have been trying to “just play the game” but HoT makes me grind to progress. It kind of sucks if you don’t choose the correct line and then you have to grind out 1 million XP to progress the story. Plus most of the events require groups and I don’t care what your experience is, mine shows me that its hard to find groups doing the events to get the needed xp and this will just get worse as the rush dies down.

I am extremely happy that it is account bound though. So after I finally finish the story I can play straight through it with out any grind on all my alts.

So, today I spent tons of money making my armor to 450 on another char just to speed up the crafting of 15 bolted damask, but then I suddenly got the message that it was on cool down! Why is this account related and not character??

Another question, any way of increasing rate on silver doubloon, a little too hard to obtain. For the juggernaut you need to have 250 and they cost about 2 gold each at the moment… Considering the level of the item, isn’kitten little too expensive?

Ascended crafted is time gated so you can only craft one of each per account per day. Or you can buy those items on TP for lots gold if you don’t like waiting.

Silver doubloons are made a PITA to acquire by arenanet. All the other similar mats you can upgrade/downgrade to get them but not with silver doubloons. The best way to get them is to get a few toons to level 21 and then park them at a jumping puzzle chest. Open the chest everyday on those characters and you’ll get some but it is slow going. With 2 characters I get about 2/week. You can also farm skrit for bags. I am not sure the best place for that since they changed the WvW BLs.

Someone did the maths and it costs 3K+ gold to make this piece of garbage, like seriously what they were thinking? I did not remember Harold grinding to get Toothless in the movie…

They don’t want you to grind, they don’t want you to go on a journey and earn them through playing. They want you to open your wallet so they can continue to not charge a sub but still make a butt load of money. I’d rather pay a sub and just have a fun experience getting cool items.

I agree, I think the reason we don’t see any good sub games, is that it takes more work to get people playing and its much easier to just throw everything worth getting into a cash store instead of creating fun and interesting ways to acquire those same items. Every F2P is just a lazy cash grab. GW2 just happens to have a better combat system and prettier graphics than most others.

ArenaNet please stop nerfing content.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Lobo Dela Noche.5127

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

You can make a game fun and captivating, you can create memorable moments and beautiful graphics. You can create complex and challenging puzzles or encounters.

Or, you can create a bunch of gates, roadblocks, time sinks…and put some rewards behind them.

Both ways, people will rush through the content. When people are playing a new game they eat it up no matter what. If it’s just fun and open and memorable, they will rush through because it’s addictive and you can’t turn it off. If it’s a bunch of miserable time sinks and gates, people will push through the shortest, fastest path just to get it over with and get to the things they enjoy or the rewards they want.

The real question is what happens after players rush through. The first type of design brings people back again and again for the long haul. The second kittenes people off, pains them, and makes them want to never do the content again if they don’t HAVE to.

ArenaNet created some really cool stuff for the expasion…much like my first paragraph. BUT…they tacked on some of the gates and grind from my second paragraph and put the fun behind that. Because of that, a lot of people were rushing / pushing through cool / fun content and a beautiful new world as fast as they could just to get the painful time sinks and gates out of the way so they could have fun. Not a good thing.

What they are doing now is reducing the unnecessary pain. The time sinks and gates really don’t slow people down, they just ruin the pacing and experience of the content and make it a means to an end, rather than an experience in and of itself. By loosening those restrictions, they allow people to experience the new amazing fun stuff for what it is.

It was a good decision, and I hope they continue in that same direction. This wasn’t a “nerf” of content…it was a removal of pointless time sinks in the way of the content and mechanics that people bought the expansion to experience.

^^^This, I don’t understand why anyone has an issue with this change. Its a very healthy change that will help retain players. Long boring grinds to drag out content is bad game design that just kittenes people off. Its an MMO people will always eat it up as fast as possible. If its actually good content they will repeat it, if not then they won’t. If its not, then making it a grind to finish makes it even more likely that people will not be hanging around. Its supposed to be fun entertainment not a chore.

If everyone stopped converting gold into gems today and I wanted to buy a million gold it would be available. This system wasn’t meant to be easy, it was meant to help people get to their precursor in small steps of progression. If you want your precursor in 1 day, buy it of the TP, it saves you allot of time and effort. If you can’t afford this, do the collection, progress a bit every week to eventually get it.

This is supposed to bridge the huge goldgap of a precursor by adding small stepping stones, but in the end, it’s not gonna be easier or cheaper. If you expected that then you were kidding yourself.

Nerfing old content to discourage people playing it and make the new content more viable isn’t good game design and is shady business practice.

This is the first MMO I have played in 15 years that has pulled this stunt and no one should be happy about it. The excuse that GW2 needs to nerf old content because it’s free 2 play holds no water when there are plenty of free 2 play MMO’s that haven’t nerfed old content when they bring out a expansion.

The nerfing of old content just as the expansion hits is so blatant as to be insulting to the inteligence of all Guild Wars 2 players. How anyone can defend that practice I don’t know.

Its completely dishonest to say they rebalanced this content because its rewarding too much 2 years into release when they just happen to release a expansion to fill that void. They should be HONEST about it. Players want honesty from a MMO developer without game content being nerfed to try make new content look more shiny ir rewarding.

Do we really want Guild Wars 2 to have a cycle of old content being nerfed to the point no one plays it every time Anet brings a expansion out? Does anyone really think that will help Guild Wars 2 retain players?

What happens when the next big expansion hits? Will they Nerf Heart Of Thorns content to get people to buy the next one?

MMO gamers are not stupid and do move onto other games as soon as they get treated like they are. Why do you think there are so many failed MMO’s out there?

Guild Wars 2 and it’s content developers are awesome and deserve massive amounts of respect BUT whoever thought it was a good idea to go back a nerf/lock old content has made a mistake. It’s hard to retain players in MMO’s these days and decisions like that cause player retention to drop.

I agree with you 100% and can only understand some one not agreeing with you because they are being paid. Its completely bad form. I had come back to the game after not playing for almost 2 years because of anets shady crap. I had finally accepted that its a subscription game. Put in $20/month and it puts the grind at the same level as other MMOs. I guess its my fault though. Ya know that whole full me once, fool me twice. I should have known better. You need 400 points to unlock the whole elite spec (this includes skins/runes. Not sure where they are in the spec). Hero Points in the new Maguuma maps all offer 10 points per completion as opposed to the one point you get for completing a Pact Tyria point.

But there are other people complaining about the piles and piles of unspendable hero points they still have left, what did I do wrong? How am I short?

No one had enough to unlock the elite spec’s when HoT came out earlier. The max Hero Points you could have before HoT’s release was 214.

Oh okay, so I was either being trolled, or they were just flat out wrong with their math.

yup, we were basically given enough points to unlock just the first tier of the elite spec. So it looks like if we want to use a full build in HoT we will have to put off using the elite spec. Kind of sucks but it was also kind of expected. All those that said we had plenty of points were talking out their kittens.

Leveling makes no sense at all to me – why would anyone want to do it if they have tomes and scrolls to insta 80?

For anyone who intends to level through XP, why not insta 80 – play exactly as you had planned, do the personal stories etc and instead of ‘leveling’ ALL the XP you are gaining is going towards increasing your ACCOUNTS Tyria mastery tracks instead?

Indeed.

You don’t even have to buy any utility skills or traits. You can play without them until you know your weapon skills by heart then every couple of playing hours you can buy one utility skill. Once you have all of those unlocked you can buy traits, one every play hour or so. You’ll still learn in much the same way as a regular leveling and all that exp you are earning will go towards your mastery line. Otherwise it’s almost 5 million exp that won’t be going there.

Ding Ding Ding

We have a couple of winners here. Anyone who is not insta leveling is just punishing themselves. I understand if you don’t have the scrolls and tomes but wasting xp that could go straight to masteries is just foolish.

SM Mass stealth Fountain. Why Anet why?

And one guy is insta-revealed and gets aoe’d then the rest of his teammates magically appear because aoe puts a player into .. wait for it .. combat. Well I guess max five players per aoe, technically.

This shows how little you know. Being attacked doesn’t remove stealth. You have to attack something yourself which does not happen automatically. You are defending mechanics that you know nothing about. This mechanic is for the winning server to troll the other servers. Nothing more. Its a horrible idea with no counter play.

When I first heard of the fountains I figured it would be something that while in it you’d have stealth and upon leaving you get maybe a few seconds. Which would be plenty for a defense. 2 min is not for a defense, its 100% for cheesy offense attacks. All a zerg would need is to send a couple stealthed scouts to run ahead of the zerg to pop any stealth traps. I thought bloodlust was the dumbest thing to happen to WvW but now its the second dumbest.

Edited to add that the gank squads will be the worst part. If you don’t have perma-stealth then what’s the point of roaming as you are guaranteed to be jumped over and over. Currently if you pay attention to surroundings you can normally spot trouble and prepare your self. This makes it so all those classes that are balanced for not having stealth can out of no where 100-0 you with out any kind of counter play.

Like I mentioned above, its the dumbest thing to ever happen to WvW. Its proof that the devs have no clue WTF they doing.

Will there ever be a fix for Nightcapping?

Night capping sucks but the only fix is for your server to recruit people/guilds from those other time zones to come play on your server. Pointing a big middle finger at everyone who doesn’t play when you do is not the answer.
