Am I the only one wondering why they used traits to get people out in the world rather skills, preferably new ones. Why go and fix something that wasn’t broken. If they would have worked on creating new skills and added them to world events and then removed the cost respect traits I am pretty sure everyone would be kittening ecstatic. Leave the old manuals for level 20, 40, and 60 unlocks and just add any new traits to the list. They could have added an npc near each event where players could buy the new skills just like in GW1 to replace the gold sink they tried with traits. It just seems like the more obvious way to do things but then again it makes the game more like gw1 and they sure the hell can’t have any of that.

gold nerf = better economy ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

Well, I did check gw2crafts.net ant it looks as though the amount of gold needed to go from 400 to 500 in armorsmithing has dropped by about 20 gold at the time of the patch, so you might have actually got things backwards.

Or not. I dunno. I never was that good at economics.

one day is not enough time to say the patch affected anything. Those that are complaining see that this patches’ overall long term affect will be to make the economy worse so that buying gold will look more favorable.

The new Hero Panel is awful!

I love the new Hero panel. To me the way we can now transmute our outfits or weapons is a significant improvement on the old system and it is so much simpler to understand. I no longer approach a transmutation with my heart in my mouth. Appreciate having all the skins I own unlocked. I was pleasantly surprised when I also got the skins of weapons and armour that I was salvaging (whether I wanted them or not). I would like a preview implemented though.

I also think the new trait system is well done as well. I like how we can change them at our whim and no cost. It will take some time to figure out what traits suit my play style best but at least I can experiment at my leisure.

They could have just made traits resets free and left it all alone. Instead we get a kittened 14 lvl system with huge grind between those levels

the system was obviously slapped together in 5 minutes with out any real thought except how to monetize it and dumb it down. For those saying there was no point in leveling except for the special tiers you are obviously new to the game. The +10 to a stat for each point is very noticeable and now those elitist dungeon runners will have even more fuel for the fire when it comes to no one lvl 79 or under allowed. And you thought there was no point in each level before LOL. Now you will go multiple levels with out getting anything they might as well remove all the in between levels and just make each level take kitten tons more xp because that’s all they really did with this change.

I had my fears about this change. I logged in to check it out hoping there would be a reason for me to come back. That answer is sadly no.

What was the justification for this nerf?

“Boss chests in dungeons are now limited to once a day. Champion loot bags and dungeon tokens from the bosses themselves will not be limited in this way.”

What problem did this fix? Why would you punish somebody (more) for being the fifth in a run to help their guildie fill out a dungeon run that they’ve already done once that reset cycle?

Because some players on this forum and likely in the game take it upon themselves to make it their business how other people play the game or make money. It apparently bothers them if you do it a certain way they do not want you to.

I assume it was, like many other things in this patch, meant to slow down the amount of gold players are making per day.

This game is getting more and more disney land themepark by every update, can’t wait for Arch Age…

Limiting gold income leads to higher gem sales, which is all they kittening care about.

Not true. Less gold earned means less inflation meaning less gold required to buy the items you want. The only people this really hurts are the people who spend significant time using this specific method to get gold.

And god forbid anyone spend some real money on a f2p game.

Less money coming in only affects those that do not have hoards of it saved up so that they can just play the TP and so it will not affect prices if even some are still able to pay those prices. I’m not sure if you noticed but they nerfed every way of making gold in this game except for the TP.

And god forbid people only spend money on gimmiks and skins in the gemstore and not be forced in to buying gems for gold also in a ftp game

Edit: The only thing that will lower prices is to increase the drop rates. If people can farm the items themselves then there will be less need for them on the TP. Anet has not made any changes like this in game but they have done changes to make them more rare/scarce/costly.

Well, I just tried to do the event to unlock my new “Read the wind” ability because i REFUSE to pay more gold.

And was immediately throw into overflow sigh where is the megaserver?! And there is nobody there, no event.

So it’s now either wait days for some dumb event or waste 20 skill points and 3g on an ability that I SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN BY DEFAULT!!!

I’m forced to participate in some stupid Arrah and kill a high wizard that doesn’t exist and that I cannot kill on my own.

Read the patchnotes. Megaservers are being rolled out incrementally.

which is why he mentioned it. They rolled out a system that kind of depends on megaservers system to work properly but the megaservers system is not in game. So now you have to go grind gold instead.

Can we please get the material costs reduced on silk. It’s by far the most crazy expensive ingredient now.

Reduce Silk Bolts back to 2 scraps per bolt, and reduce the Ascended Spools down to 50.

Yes this needs to happen so that it will make the cost of light armor closer to medium and heavy. You should not be punished based on the class you chose and it should not be so out of whack that it becomes a choice for choosing your class at character creation.

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

This is why Aetherpath failed. It wasn’t because no one liked it, you got a lot of people who loved it. It failed because there’s just no point doing it.

In other words, people want rewards more than they want challenge. The lifespan of Challenge in MMO PvE is precisely as long as it takes for those who want it to master the content, after which it is no longer challenging. The lifespan of reward-based content is as long as the rewards are worth it. Given that (per-launch) the entire game was supposed to have been about fun, I’d say that the masses have spoken.

That’s just it, the magic gets lost after you run something even 5-10 times, let alone 100. So the loot needs to be there to keep players interested. If the rewards were there for everything and the rewards were equal based on average time of completion then you would see more dungeons get run.

But the rewards are not equal so if I can run something in 15 min and get the same reward as something that take an hour then I will. Every MMO I have ever played is like that.

Current Thoughts on Game Design

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

I agree, other mmos have single updates that are as large as all the updates in guild wars 2 up to this point. The living story has had a lot of updates but very few of them have had any features, fixes, or lasting content other than skins. I do like the idea of a lot of the changes but overall the features update feels to me like a way to make gems more valuable. By increasing scarcity in more items and reducing the amount of gold players can earn, which in turn makes it more grindy to attain things. This makes me think anet will not spend time on anything unless they think it will some how make them money no matter how good the change would be for the game.

The thought that they would start balancing drop rates and the TP economy around a gem store purchase is another awful precedence that you defenders of the watchwork pick have brought up. I have thought for a long time that anet does this to some extent but to make gem store items the main way to get a crafting material in the long run or balance the market is just an awful thought. The fact you would use an idea like this to defend what they were doing is humorous and really only strengthens the case for how bad a precedent the watchwork pick is.

Set a low buy price on patch day and buy as many as you can.

By looking at the amount ncsoft posted it appears that on average players pay more for this game than they would a subscription based game. I am sure there are players that only pay for the game and never use the gemstore but the profits show they are making more than $15.00 a month per person.

Basically some players are subsidizing the cost so this game is not free.

The ability to use the level 1-79 stones for level 80 gear is a positive improvement. Yes it does suck that we will burn through them faster during the low levels but honestly, how long is your average character not at level 80. I am normally very critical of arenanet but this is an over all positive change, even if the end goal is to get more sells in the gemstore.

All this change is doing is making condition tank builds more op in wvw.
Berzerker will still be the meta in pve. Which means for many players it makes it so you want two sets of gear- one for pve and one for wvw. I think this nerf is to make that divide larger and to nerf celestial so that it is less useful as an easy middle ground. So that they keep you in the gear grind treadmill longer.

The following is just my opinion:
Do you remember when the new top items and cool skins where introduced for a set amount of time spent running dungeons or doing dinamic events?
Ok, now forget about it and bow to your new RNG God and his flipping trading post prophets.

The rules are simple now: are you a casual player and not a pro (grinder)?
Work in real, buy gems with money and buy gold with gems.
Gold is your new meta across the game, your money is and has always been the meta for anet.

They could have followed the expansions route, but they preferred to focus on microtransaction, so this is what you get right now.
Sadly you can just accept it and due your lack of free time and money play with old skins and mediocre stats or leave.

What ^he^ said

The bullkitten RNG in this game is bullkitten. Don’t ever expect to loot anything yourself. If you want something you either grind gold or buy gems and convert to gold. There is some guides to help with grinding gold but its mostly a very boring unfulfilling job.

Why is Celestial Exotic armor time-gated?

in Crafting

Posted by: Lobo Dela Noche.5127

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

Its gated because celestial is theoretically a BIS for casual players. It lets you theoretically try any build you want and lets you switch between those builds with out constantly buying new gear. I say theoretically because when you do the math there is much better gear sets to do the same thing and come out ahead. Most casuals don’t do the math though so the idea of a completely balanced set that takes no thinking has its appeal.
I think part of the gating was that someone thought of it being good enough for casuals to not want or need any other sets. Which means they don’t need to grind or buy gems to gear out multiple sets. So they make it a PITA with time gating and limited crystal spawns.

but seriously no, the ability to change stats makes having multiples worth it. People might have 2 of the same looking skin but they won’t be able to switch up their build like someone who has 2 of the actual item.

Feedback/Questions: The Wardrobe System

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lobo Dela Noche.5127

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

no, a skin is a skin. The wardrobe should allow the skin to work as many times on as many different weapons since it has a cost associated with using it. What if I don’t want to dual wield but just have two different stat swords that I switch between that I want the same skin on. The value of the skins will always be there since most of them are limited time only. So if you are that worried about making money off them then just hold on to them.

Edit: Also in the case of legendaries the stats and the ability to change the stats will help them hold their values. The cost associated with ascended weapons make it not so feasible to make multiples to gear out for multiple builds on a character. So I don’t see them dropping that much in price.

Is there really any difference in buying them from the gemstore or from an npc for gold. Either way can be done with gems. The main issue I could see with selling them on the gemstore is if its exclusive to the gemstore. Grinding gold to buy gems is Bullkitten I don’t care what anyone says.

PS I do agree with Phys though. Some changes on the surface seem really good but they are really just trying to find more ways to get you in the gemstore

Is it fun?
For me it is when i am “prepared to have fun”

But the more we go on the bigger the % of time spent is “preparation to have fun” opposed to “having fun”.

Whoever designed GW2 thougt it perfectly…
Whoever is in care of updates, totally destroyed it for me…..

The process of acquiring wealth in order to get equipment was fun at the beginning, in fact you could obtain it from whatever you liked “playing the way you want”.

Few months later you play whatever developers wants….

This is what a lot of the anet defenders ignore. The game started off one way and it is not that way anymore. I enjoyed the start but its gone down a bad path. People keep saying you can still play the way you want but what they ignore is that the rewards that you used to get are gone. So once upon a time players were able to get actual rewards for playing how they want The rewards used to not be a grind and now they all are. Now to get the same rewards I used to get by playing the way I want I have to grind champions for hours instead. They act like its always been this way since launch and that is wrong. It was not this way at launch.

The reason we don’t just go away is that we still have hope for this game. D3 shows that a developer can see the light and fix things. Is it wrong to hope that arenanet/ncsoft could do the same.

When Diablo 2 was released, it wasn’t as great as it is now. I remember the community saying the game was terrible, that it wasn’t going to be played. But the game got a lot of updates and improved to a point that “Diablo” became a synonym of success

Diablo 3’s release was terrible as well (Blizzard is excellent on that I think), but the community feedback helped the game to take the right direction, and the expansion can prove that is true

GW2 was an outstanding game on the release. I myself played it almost the whole year (bought it on jan/2013 and quit on set-oct/2013).
ArenaNet started updating the game, with good and bad stuff, but the game got more and more like a grind game than something to have fun, and more you were forced to play Guardian or Warrior because they are simply the best classes in the game for PvE.
I hope all that “listen to community” gives us some hope and let us play the game to have fun again

D3 tried to build a game from the ground up around the RMAH. It made it not fun and now they are scrapping that idea and listening to the playerbase. The biggest changes are the fix to loot tables so that you actually have a chance at loot and they are removing the RMAH. I don’t really think they need to remove the RMAH, they just should not base loot drops around it.

GW2 they started with a decent game and then some kittenhead in a suit decided that they wanted to do what D3 is doing and make all content revolve around the gemstore. So they have nerfed loot drops to abysmal levels so you either grind gold for 100hrs or buy gems to get what ever you want. Its like they didn’t learn from D3.

I started playing GW2 at launch and lasted a little bit longer than you. Now I’m just a forum jockey until they start listening to the players. I don’t think its going to happen though. They seem determined to stay the course and there is many defenders of that course. Whether they are just fanboys or paid shills there are many trying to down play the naysayers so I just can’t see any real change happening.

The truth is nothing will stop the zergs because just like in the real world there is safety in numbers. Removing the aoe cap will make it slightly easier for a smaller pop server to be able to defend keep and towers. Nerfing AOEs will just turn the meta into single target spike builds. It will not stop stacking or zerging because it would still be more efficient to stack and every one spike one target at a time. 30 guys spiking someone will make them drop just as fast as 30 guys cleaving. There won’t be as much splash damage but you would still be better off with a zerg.

quick offtopic – the OP sounds like a shill post setting up for the dev to come in and say yes great idea. So that when the devs implement it into the game they can say it was the players who asked for that change. Tons of these post seem like that to me. There is just so many players defending wak ideas that the only way my cynical mind can grasp it is that they are anet/ncsoft paid shills.

Sorry now back on topic. What anet needs to do is remove the cap on AOEs not rewrite the entire kitten game. But then again maybe its more cost effect for anet to waste time and money not creating content and instead creating an entirely new game rather than upgrade the infrastructure to handle the game they originally built. Removing the cap on AOEs will stop the hammer trains and spread all the stackers out with out nerfing anyone.

On Ascended Gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lobo Dela Noche.5127

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

Something that doesn’t get mentioned much is the effect that the person with out ascended armor also has lower armor. This combined with the person having higher stats makes the gap larger. If two guys of the same class both have full berserker gear and the only difference between the two is one is in full exotic and one is in full ascended gear. Then the guy in exotic is going to do less damage because of the stats and because the guy in ascended has higher armor. This makes the gap between them more than the 5% you see in the stats. This also causes the guy in ascended to do a lot more damage compared to what he is taking. This does affect WvW and PVE. Yes you can still do it all in your underwear if you wish but just because you want to kitten your self to create self imposed challenges does not mean that there is not a substantial benefit. In dungeons a full group in ascended is going to be faster than a group in full exotic if everything else is the same. In WvW a group/person in full ascended should beat a group/person in full exotic all other things being equal. This means that a player in exotic will do less damage and take more damage to/from a person in ascended armor of the same type – full berserker, full soldiers, etc. If it was just straight stats that would be one thing but the armor and the stats makes it a much larger gap.

Honestly though I don’t really care about the power creep of the ascended as long as they they stop there. I have more issues with the gold grind to get it.

PS – I do know armor is a stat but I never see anything about how it also comes into play only the DPS meter.

Then they’re dumb because even the original GW only granted you today’s content but there they expected you to buy an expansion/play alone if you wanted more.

We don’t have that here right now. What we have is a more comprehensive cash shop trying to provide items that would get players to buy gems with cash, now that the exchange rate is high, to purchase them. Different business model.

It is not a different business model its the exact same business model with extras. We buy the game just like GW1 for 60 bucks which gives you access to everything in this package. They have the store to make extra on top of that. I hate the kitten excuse that its different. The only difference is they are being lazy and greedy this time and rather than working on real content they give us 2 week QnD trash so they can sell more skins in the store. GW1 showed that the original expansion model works.

If its a going to be totally free to play model built around the store then give me back my 80 bucks for the digital deluxe I bought or give me the equivalent in gems.

They will do nothing about stacking and zerging – having huge numbers of people together lets them pretend there are many people doing many things. The fact that those people are all doing one thing (stand here and press 1) doesn’t come into consideration.

It’s rather like the forced WvW for map completion. It allows them to use their metrics and claim that most PvE players become WvW players, when anyone else knows this is blatantly untrue.

It’s all about numbers, and how they can massage them to tell them what they want to hear.

I don’t know if you’re aware of this fact, but your theory doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Manipulating their collected data to make up their own facts would hurt them every bit as much as it would us, since their job relies on that data to determine how to maintain their player base and get new players to try the game.

They manipulate those numbers for stockholders so that quarterly graphs look good. He didn’t say it was for player retention.

P2W Game is P2W. People can try to justify it all they want but it is p2w. The only thing is how much p2w different people accept. I don’t mind the buying of gold allowing someone to completely max out gear (including legendary) in one day. I don’t mind BiS QoL items. If the item does exactly what I can get in game except for a skin/animation/duration difference so what. I would rather they add a way in game to get the QoL item besides gold to gem exchange but I can live with it.

I know people that won’t even play this game because you can buy gold and that is too much for them. I know others that liked it and dropped an extra 50 bucks into gems first day they stated playing. Everyone is different on how they feel about it and everyone has different tolerance levels of how much is acceptable before they reach their limit and quit. Trying to argue about the definition of p2w is dumb. Best thing is to just say you don’t mind certain levels of it and move on from there. Maybe even focus on why you think certain levels are OK. something like I find the gold/gem exchange good for the game as people who want to do that will just buy gold from gold farmers anyways so this way the game gets a piece of that pie.

Many people are upset that the precedent they have set will lead to levels of P2W that aren’t currently in the game. People can say its just sprockets but they can not guarantee the next thing won’t be something like ectos. I don’t work for arenanet or ncsoft so I can’t say what the future holds either. What I can say is that prior experience shows that once they start testing the waters they don’t stop there.

DDO for years was a subscription game and then switched to a sub/f2p model. At first it was just QoL items and then slowly started adding the major p2w items. The DDO store now is full on P2W. Its happened in lots of games and if the suits think the extra money will look good on the quarterlies they will run with it.

Corporate greed has killed many games. I’m not sure why so many defend the companies. Will stopping arenanet from making anymore items like the pick hurt you or your playstyle? Will it upset you if they release new gathering tools without any special effects only new skin/animation. I can guarantee it will make many upset if they do add more new ones with special effects. I don’t see why its a bad thing for people to not what the game they love to play to go down that path.

Proposed Crafting changes

in Crafting

Posted by: Lobo Dela Noche.5127

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

I quit playing because of how out overpriced things like silk are and you want to make them go up even higher. Most of this post sounds like someone has a huge abundance of saved mats and wants to cash in. I say the exact opposite needs to happen, lower everything to only cost 2 mats for refinement except for maybe tier one. IMO all recipes should have the same base material cost. It should be 2 base mats refined into 1 refined mat. They should standardize the ascended crafting into 10/10/10 or 20/20/20 refined mats not 10/20/10 like it currently is. And make it 50 across the board for all the tier 5 time gated mats.

Adding nodes for leather and cloth would be good also. This way everything would be a bit more balanced but things like silk would still cost more based on how many recipes require it compared to things like leather. They just wouldn’t be over 5 times more expensive.

This is just all my opinion. I believe the major expense for making items should be time and special materials like orbs/ectos/tier 6 ing(bone/c;aw/etc)/lodestones. This game was supposed to be about horizontal progression not vertical. I can understand a little bit of gear grind for max stat gear for 1 character but not the way it currently is. I may not be a hardcore power gamer so I don’t expect to get geared out as fast but at the way I play a month or two after the hardcore players get theirs sounds about right. But the way it is right now it will take about a year to gear 1 character with normal play and not grinding champs 10hrs a day or just buying gold.

Hellfire Greaves (boots) 21k AP!?!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

How is the gap way too big?
It is the exactly same amount of APs that there is between the other Hellfire/Radiant skins.

No, there’s a 3k gap between hellfire/radiant skins. But on 12k, 15k and 18k you get repeats, so if you are interested in one version only you suddenly get a 12k gap between first 3 pieces and a 4th.

I do wonder how people that talk about adding it to the 12k tier thinks.

How would that work for people (it is rather many by now) that have already gotten past 12k and already gotten the reward.

Just make Hellfire/Radiant like the Zenith weapons. Every 3k we are able to choose between all set items actually implementet. So no retroactively rewards needed.

That way. Or, if you think that would be too good (and people would start with chest and leggings at 3 and 6k), then make the locations unlock per 3k, and allow choosing only from unlocked locations.

something like this needs to be done. And they really need an expansion because there is just not enough achievement points to warrant what they are asking. As of right now its just another kitten meter of how long someone can go with out burning out.

no thanks, they already have the precedent set. They will eventually start selling those items that will get you to admit that this is P2W. You can only deny truth for so long.

GW2 has always been P2W since it launched. Anyone who says different is lying to you or themselves. The ability to buy BiS gear with real money is P2W. Doesn’t matter if its armor, weapons, accessories, tools, or whatever else you can think of, BiS is Bis. If you can buy BiS with real money that is PAY TO WIN. We have been able to buy best in slot armor and weapons since launch with real money. Only recently with ascended armor and weapons does the P2W player have to actually play to get BiS (dragonite/bloodstone/Emp) but they can still buy legendary weapons. So stop saying this game isn’t P2W. Someone with large amounts of disposable income has a huge advantage over anyone else in this game.

Now that that has been said, up until recently it really wasn’t a problem because if you worked hard you could still get everything with a reasonable amount of grind. Key word there is reasonable. GW2 has recently made some big changes that push more in direction of use the cash store over just play the game because they have made the grind for some things unreasonable and started selling items with bonuses that can not be had anywhere else but from the store.

This is all bad form and many people like myself have stopped playing because of it. I still check the forums everyday hoping that I will see something to give me hope for this game but what do I see instead a clockwork pick with an ability that can not be had anywhere else in the game. And then I think what will the next BiS item be in the cash store and what will be the one after that and after that.

p2w is here and always has been since the game launched. But now they are molding content around the cash store so you feel like you have to buy gems/gold to keep up. I am actually for having a cash store and don’t really care about the gem to gold transfers. I don’t care if someone wants to spend real money to buy a legendary, the option I actually think is good for the game since those with the money will buy it from an outside source anyways. That on its own I don’t think bothers most people. I think most would agree with me if its just a shortcut like when the game started then its not a big deal.

Making a BiS QoL item exclusive to the cash store most could live with also because it was just a QoL item. It did not give any special bonus better than the old BiS item that can be bought in game and the cost of the tool in gold→gems will take most players years of use to break even. All it does is save a trip to the merchant every now and then and has a neat animation. The new pick adds a bonus not found anywhere else in game and is only accessible in the cash store. This is a horrible precedent to set. The next thing will have a different better bonus only available from the item in the cash store and the next one and so on and so on.

Silk weaving thread needs 100 bolts?

The price of silk would have still gone up when ascended armor went live, which would have fixed the price of silk not being a tradable resource. Especially since it is required in all armor crafting, unlike the leather/mithril. There was no reason for them to increase the cost of refining it or make the cost of silk thread double that of the medium/heavy armor ascended pieces. They did it to add another timegate/gold sink to get you to buy gold from them and it has nothing to do with the anything else.

quick edit to clarify, the devs are smart people, they knew the price would go up with ascended armor and they specifically made it one the most expensive pieces. They didn’t over compensate, they did it on purpose. Just like silver doubloons, they can fix those at any time with a transmogrify recipe but they don’t want to because they want it that way.

a 5v5 or 10v10 mode built similar to supermondaynightcombat could be a fun alternative to the current spvp system. but would not work with blobs/zergs

edit: after thinking about it more 10v10 would even be too many

you may think zerging is the wrong way to do it, but if a server has the numbers they will brute force it all the way. Just because some pencil —-- desk jockey that doesn’t play the game didn’t plan on it being done that way doesn’t mean it won’t be done that way.

I’m not sure why they didn’t just give the buffs to the npcs and not players. It makes upgrading the camps/towers actually useful. Which makes defending and upgrading points not so pointless.

but since it is the way it is, new buff is BS and only a person with an IQ of 1 would think otherwise. glaringly obvious this should not have ever gone live
