I’m glad you’re happy, but I think the exact opposite.
…absolutely boring
Yet you are your ilk still persist on being involved with a game that you apparently can’t stand.
It’s the equivalent of watch a popular TV series every week and then go up onto their fan sites to tell them how bad it is every week.
Just because we don’t like the current direction, doesn’t mean we’re not fans anymore and hope things will change to make us love it again
I dye my characters pink since GW1 did this
But I would happily wear a pink ribbon back piece ingame aswell (although my gf painted my nails pink today, I feel FABULOUS in the office)
As Mike Z said at the EUROGAMER Expo last week when I quizzed him about the Maifesto
“We had to make changes, but nothing is ‘Off the table’”
Thank you, this fresh perspective made me laugh.
It doesn’t take 4 hours to conceive btw, more like 4 seconds, so you could’ve spent all that time waiting doing some productive (sic) :PI dunno. Prep time, dinner, candlelight, wine, all that. It should take longer than 4 seconds.
Or just pour a couple of glasses of good red wine, works for my gf (we have a date night as we both work from home, so wine is enough now
)
An International District not tied to WvW would be perfect
PAHAHAHA
Sorry, after the Q&A at Eurogamer and the “New Content” it was supposed to show (and didn’t, THIS is hilarious!
crown pavilion and Scarlet invasions
until they became a champ farm zerg of course
Well all we got in response to this and other questions at the GW2 dev chat with Mike Z at Eurogamer was “Nothing is off the table”, that was literally his answer to EVERY question in the Q&A
In fact, here’s the Eurogamer dev chat
The first question in the Q&A was me

I actually made a thread a week ago about making Cultural and dungeon armours into skins for transmute, especially as we’re getting ascended armour soon
Wow…
This thread alone shows the degredation of the Elitist community is now WORSE that WoW’s
AP is NOT an indicator of skill when half the AP is from time gated/missable content AND every Achievement Point can be farmed from a Dulfy guide, what you’re looking for in reading comprehension!
GEAR? This isn’t WoW! If it was there would be Item Level
I got access to the “tool” yesterday, loaded it up, quick scan, closed it and closed the game
if it’s limited to one character and only the starter zones, that would be cool (and they’d know whether they wanted to buy it by then)
I know it was easier with GW1 as it was fully instanced, but they added this feature in GW1, I’m surprised not to see it in GW2
No, nor do I plan to grind to do this new event, or any other
Also, pve areas are instanced dungeons same as pvp areas are instanced battlegrounds. Open world should not be reserved for pve or pve but both.
actually yes, the open world SHOULD be PvE exclusive.
I’m sorry to say this but man, you are so wrong… How it’s normal to you that mmo game should be only pve exclusive and that pvp should be instanced? Then man you should try some single player game and enjoy…
Fact that some people like to get some extra action while they are exploring the world is not reason to call them Fanboys.
There is a god way to make a compromise with tag option, you may check and uncheck the pvp on charr tab and secure from pvp.
Actually its very normal, that’s why other MMO’s all have PvE servers!
In a nutshell, GW2 should have had Guild Halls and GvG from day 1 of release
I think a lot of people arent really complaining about the ascended tier per se (albeit a few are concerned about a neverending treadmill) but the amount of grind required to obtain ONE weapon as opposed to getting a ring and accessory. Cannot imagine what has to be done for ascended armor.
I for one, am complaining that the gear even exists. This is my main issue with GW2, and why I quit playing. The amount of grind is a distant second place in my complaint department. Actually, it’d be third, after the endless AP grind, followed by poor Living Story and Personal Story quality.
I really can’t find a reason to play any more. What are my options?
1) grind gear
2) grind meaningless AP
3) do the same set of dungeons that have been in the game since launch.
4) play a poorly written living story, in a blind panic to get the achievements in time, before they go away.Since Fractals, there have been no new dungeons. WvW is essentially the same zergfest it’s been since launch, and sPvP has had few meaningful improvements – it’s still the same old same old, at heart.
The few bits of really good content that ArenaNet have come up with since launch were temporary, and can’t be played any more.
So what’s my motivation to stick around? There isn’t. The only reason I still come to these forums is because I was a huge Guild Wars fan, and I keep hoping they’ll find a way to plug the leaks in the sinking ship that’s becoming GW2.
Brilliant post Chuo, this sums up my feelings for the game completely and why i basically stopped covering the game for work
I will be at the ANet developer conference next week at Eurogamer, but only because other staff are busy, or I’d go do something else rather than cover GW2…
I only play it casually now
I actually started a topic asking for the GW1 guild logos to be added aswell
That would let GW1 guilds use the same logo across both
The colours match up to the stats on the weapons
The starter island was great, the city was terrible, one of the worst placed I have ever seen in a game. But the jade sea, and the echovald forrest are pretty kitten good.
OH, I’m glad I’m not the only person that hated the city. One way ticket to motion sickness, that place. Bleh.
I’d like Cantha back… when the lore makes sense for it to become accessable.
omg you got motion sickness in the city too? i’m glad im not crazy…..
Yeah I did too, I could only ever do Kaineng with heroes as I had to stop from time to time
But the city was based on a real place in China (someone else can google it) which has now been pulled down, but according to the lore we’ve already read, the current Emperor is an isolationist that conquered and disbanded the Luxons and Kurzicks…
However we could easily be begged to help in Cantha as there’s bound to be a dragon there and Kuunavang, like Glint needs our help (like Glint died helping Destiny’s Edge)
we need this:

:D
EDIT: Dunno why the image tags didn’t work
It is a little disappointing that we all got the one mini for b’day, another disappointment after the b’day mini’s from GW1
How can you complain in this matter? Regardless of how useful the tool is, its still an improvement, as it gives us a function that this game has been in dire need of. The simple fact is, that this tool will revolutionize party finding(on GW2 at any rate) so give it a chance.
You’re right, we don’t know what it’ll be yet, however a lot of us will have been spoilt by Major AAA MMO titles that have great LFG Queue systems
Two words…
Cantha
&
Elona
:D
Actually no, we know FOR A FACT that the base code of GW2 is updated from GW1’s, there is a LOT of the GW1 DNA flowing through GW2, it’s an evolutionary step, however a lot of the GW1 veterans see it as somewhat a backward step
It may be based on the GW1 engine, but it’s still a new engine. Things are different, it’s not exactly the same thing. Servers/overflows are organized differently now as well, which would be a pretty big deal for coding a LFG tool. And like I said, demands have increased too. The original GW1 LFG tool would no longer be sufficient. Players demand more, and have slightly higher standards.
As a games journalist that plays MMO’s as part of his job, I call BS on it and I’ll be saying that next week at Eurogamer aswell!
I disagree. Without knowing the opinion of the people actually developing this tool, I don’t think you can make that call.
After 8 years of knowing these guys, I can make a pretty kitten ed solid assumption
You’re right, it WAS grind… IF you didn’t play it smart
Like I’ve said three times now, ESPECIALLY with Nightfall, if you did the bounties while clearing the map and exploring for the map clearance, you cleared loads of birds at once, not to mention over numerous characters, even the 10k Sunspear faction was quick to get
Even this way, with multiple chars, people still preferred the lb/ss farm run because it was faster and more lucrative. Yes, it did not have to be a grind, but many perceived it as such. The same issue is happening here with ascended. It does not have to be a grind, but most perceive it as being so. And again, wholly optional. Unless you are doing high level fractals (and even then) exotics are still more then enough for all other content.
100% with you there, perception is a major factor
Ahh for people with alts Dungeon armor is a good send, you dont have to waste a ton of gold to equip your level 80 character with exotics and the dungeon armor looks better than most TP exotic armor anyway.
This is also true, great for alts, especially with the accountwide wallet now
But surely skins would be better as Named gear is pretty cheap on the Trading Post
I have 4 ascended weapons as of now.
And dont even bring up “well in gw1 you didn’t have to grind” Actually you did just wasn’t for gear it was for something that also increases stats.
We had to grind in GW1? Pray tell, how?
I think he’s referring to pve skills. Which, admittedly most people did grind the Nightfall (seed of life, there’s nothing to fear, rduced dmg in torment) and EotN titles (pain inverter, battle standard, i am unstoppable, ursan) to increase their effectiveness, the same for some faction based skills (save yourselves for example).
Beyond that, we did have the single quest in factions which everyone pretty much hated – accumulate 10k faction for your selected faction…. required before we could progress to hatchery or grove. Wooo I can still hear the griping about that one.
^^
Yup to say GW1 had no power climb or grind at all is a flat out lie. Not sure why people think there wasn’t.
Maybe just because it wasnt in the form of gear… which is pretty ignorant if thats the case.
You’re right, it WAS grind… IF you didn’t play it smart

What if you do a champ tran for 30 mins that at lest one brick one
Bloodstone brick and powder won’t help you get the gold for the more mundane mats required for an Ascended weapon. It still costs like 200g to level a craft from 400 to 500.
The big adages GW2 has over mmorpgs is that nodes are per person there no fighting over them and at the same time loot is also per person so there no fighting over claming. In a way GW2 is made to be some of the most rewarding farming in any mmorpgs i have seen to date. If you truly feel this is a type of grind then you my friend need not to play mmorpgs or any type of rpg because even the single players games are far worst this GW2 by a long way.
This is actually a very good point and one I will concede compared to other MMO’s, BUT on the flipside, doesn’t that mean Guild Wars 2 become Farm Wars 2 instead?
How about this to be like wvw armors/skins:
You want the skins? -> Get them cheap
You want the stats? -> Get them with the tokens like they are now
just like the Armor Master in WvW
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Armor_Master
That would work
I do like the Armour Master having skins for older armour sets too, thats what gave me the idea in fact
I notice you didn’t quote the second sentence in my post… As I said, the community asked for it and ONE DEV coded it to show HOW EASY it was to code…
Different game, and not high priority. Just because one dev easily coded one for GW1, does not automatically mean that coding one for GW2 is just as easy. After all, people have high expectations and demands for the LFG system. It has to be a reasonable alternative to the LFG website (something the GW1 lfg system did not really have to compete with). So coding one for GW2 requires careful design, and a lot of testing to get it right.
Actually no, we know FOR A FACT that the base code of GW2 is updated from GW1’s, there is a LOT of the GW1 DNA flowing through GW2, it’s an evolutionary step, however a lot of the GW1 veterans see it as somewhat a backward step
GW2 is supposed to be a full blown MMO, and its 2013, where is the AutoQueuing LFG tool for Dungeons you have access too, etc?
As a games journalist that plays MMO’s as part of his job, I call BS on it and I’ll be saying that next week at Eurogamer aswell!
If this was 2006 I would agree with you, however GW1 had a LFG tool in it,
Not on launch! That LFG window was added extremely late in GW1’s development.
I notice you didn’t quote the second sentence in my post… As I said, the community asked for it and ONE DEV coded it to show HOW EASY it was to code…
I think a lot of it was ArenAnet did not think it was needed. At launch there was multiple threads started we need a LFG tool. Multiple people said. There is one already in the game.
I think this is another case of the players surprised the developers. The developers may have thought that players would play the events on the map the dungeon is on while looking for a group. This ended up not happening.
Maybe they didn’t think it was needed at launch and that’s a MASSIVE failing!
When I get to a certain level, my character gets an ingame mail to say, “Heres a dungeon, Go Do It!”, so why is there no LFG to LET me go do it straight away?
filled it up and its not looking pretty lol
Agreed, finished it and I’m interested in seeing the results of the poll aswell

EDIT: no, i do distinctly remember morrowinds music, it was definantly nice. and I’m sure KOTOR had distinct music but it was nothing memorable for me.
Both also done by Jeremy Soule who does Guild Wars
Surely she can’t be doing her job when she’s stood in the middle of the fountain…
Not to mention her legs should have been cut off by now
Well at least the Transmutation Crystals are priced somewhat reasonably in the gem store…
Much less for a pack of 10 than what most armor/weapon skins go for.
Ok, so why bother grinding the dungeons for the dungoen armour only to go and buy better stats from the trading post or crafted ascended armour (when we get it)
RATHER than buy the dungeon armour SKIN from the vendor and just put the skin on the armour you just bought or crafted?Doing it just for the skin makes sense, Doing it just to destroy another piece FOR the skin is wasteful
Because ANet wants you to buy the transmutation crystals from their gem store.
I’ve spent a lot of stones transmuting exotics to exotics and yesterday my first stone transmuting exotic skin to ascended weapon.
Yes you’re right of course, but I would bet real money that a lot of the playerbase over looks this armour for trading post, hell even the Invaders armour is nearly good enough
Not to mention if anyone is going to spend real money they will do it to buy the mats for the ascended gear
I fully intend to ask them when we are getting Nightfall and Factions areas and beyond next week at the Eurogamer Dev chat
I genuinely want to see what happened to Kaineng 250 years down teh line and I want to see where those other Asura gates in Lions Arch goto
I think that the cultural armor is meant to be a rarity and that part of the way that it is kept from being something that everyone has is to make it so expensive.
So is the real issue the fact that you are buying a piece of armor to be transmuted, or the fact that you have to pay so much for it and then pay real money to transmute it?
Neither really but more the fact that they will both be left in the dust when ascended appears
However making them skins also doesn’t remove the status of the cultural, in fact it makes them relevant again as people could get the skin and it would become a proper gold sink, rather than an armour now that is only going to be used for transmute

What positives would raids bring to this game? I’m honestly drawing a blank. There’s, afaik, no good reason to implement instanced wow-style gearcheck tiered raids. There’s a game for that already, and they’ve mastered it.
Thats the thing, in WoW its the PLAYERS that gear check, the gear iLvL is the games way and the dungeon gear is the right iLvL for the LFR system, the LFR gear drops are good enough for full raiding, its the PLAYERS that push
Whether it’s system imposed or player pushed is not relevant. At the end of the line, a gear check is done, which is an ugly thing for a game which most healthy people can only play for 2 hours a day, if at all.
The only place in GW2 where gear is an issue, is high level fractals, which doesn’t content gate anyone who chooses not to do it. On the other hand, I never saw the Lich King. Couldn’t. I have too much of a life to grind out the gear.
And yet that’s what raiding seems to imply time and time again … increased gear stats. I simply can’t agree to something like that in this game. People bought GW2 for flat stats and horizontal progression. Please let this kind of bad raiding stay in the games I don’t play anymore, exactly because of the raiding.
No, a gearcheck by the system it part of whether you are ready for that content as gear (in a WoW context) is another leveling tool, that helps determine if you are ready for the next tier of dungeon/raid content for your lvl
Item level (often abbreviated as ilevel or simply ilvl) is a rather important property of every item. It has two main functions — to reflect the item’s usefulness and at the same time determine the minimum level a character must have in order to use it.
Item level serves as a rough indicator of the power and usefulness of an item, designed to reflect the overall benefit of using the item. Two items of equal ilvl should in theory therefore be of equal potential use. However, each item spends its ilvl ‘budget’ differently, in various primary and secondary stats, as well as in procs and effects. Since each of these values provide different benefits to different classes and specs, the true value of an item varies depending on the user, and cannot be determined solely by ilvl. Additionally, PvP Power is not counted towards an item’s ilvl budget, allowing PvP gear of a given ilvl to provide an advantage in PvP compared to non-PvP gear of the same ilvl.
Item level is widely used as a means of assessing a character’s power. Ilvl is used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and is often used in a similar way by players organising raids.
Individual items’ item levels can be found in their tooltips. Each character’s average ilvl can be found in the character sheet.
Hell, that explains it perfectly
The GW1 people and soloers hold the game back. The GW1 people would totally flip their lid if a raid was put in the game. They would all be screaming about the game becoming like WoW.
Therefore, there will be no instanced raid. I am completely shocked that there is gear progression, but so far they have ignored the constant protests of the GW1 people on that.
I would first note that we would not necessarily ‘flip our lids’ if a raid was intoduced, especially like Tequatl is being implemented. Some might even be OK with more traditional raids. GW2, however, is trying break new ground in that kind of area. You lump all GW1 players and soloers together and then act as though they are a tiny minority that the game is only trying to cater to, which simply isn’t accurate.
I also notice that in the first paragraph you just say ‘raids,’ whereas you later add instanced in front of it.
Yeh I was referring to instanced raids if context clues from the OP of the thread I am responding to and from my post didn’t get that point across. Though Tequatl, not matter what they do to him, doesn’t qualify as a raid. A raid boss maybe, but not a raid.
Didn’t really say anything about the size of GW1 community, so I don’t know where that came from.
Yeh, regardless, I expect that a full traditional raid would not go over with the GW1 community or at least most of it.
Correction
I am a GW1 veteran and I would totally welcome instanced Raid content (not a fan of Fractals, but they are to a point)
Hell, Underworld and Domain of Anguish would be perfect for it
You all are missing the fact that the gem store is the only place to reliable get those Transmutation Crystals.
That fact wasnt missed.
What was missed by the op was the fact that dungeon armor is actually used as armor.
Well with the ascended tier coming, it’s only a matter of time before it will only be used as a skin, albeit that time might be long(ish).
In any case, it’s unlikely that these will be turned into skins, since the transmutation crystals are probably one of the most purchased items in the gem store and ANet don’t want to change that.
Bingo, the whole point, as I said, was because ascended armour will out do it and it will just become a skin for transmute anyway
I’m not willing to spend real money on Gems right now with the state of the game and buying with ingame gold is a hit and miss affair
Both Dungeon and Cultural armour, although used for stats, could be a skin as those stats are ALREADY available from the trading Post for 2 gold TOPS (I full set of named armour for 6 gold?!?)
Unless they upgrade the dungeon and Cultural armour to ascended stats? Which is doubtful
Yes to cultural armour (who really uses lv80 rares and pays 120g for them???), no to dungeon armour. I used a lot of dungeon armor (and weapons) just for the stats.
As I said above, you can already get the stats and runes cheaply on the Trading Post, so why not buy that instead and put a skin on it?
that shows a 1H axe hoisted over the wars shoulder not a 2 handed great axe there is a very big difference . Also concept art does not game mechanics make . I haven’t seen a fan off hand for mesmers yet which was in the concept art for it .
If there was a fan focus, I’d use it in a second (well the three weeks to craft it of course)
I miss the trinity like I miss that ex girlfriend I think of every so often. Sure I’d like to be with her again for all nostalgia reasons but few seconds later I realize why we broke up and how we wouldn’t last for more than a day together.
Same for the trinity. People might feel it’s a good system, but by thinking it through one realizes immediately why it’s that bad and why we got rid of it.
THAT is the perfect analogy!
I miss gameplay mattering. I think the design of dungeon content doesn’t offer anything better than the trinity. For many encounters I am literally alt-tabbing out of the game to read something or do something else while I auto-attack a boss to death. That’s how tedious the no-trinity combat of GW2 has become in many cases.
Even the easiest dungeons with the trinity system required you to be there and do something. In GW2 it’s usually enough to auto-attack to beat most bosses.
I have to concede, this is a kitten ed good point
One thing about WoW, you know there is actually some skill/timing needed if the modding community produce a Boss Mod (kitten I loved that Mod so much)
Yup, definitely need more GW1 armours and weapon skins
We all know we’re getting Ascended armour in the (near?) future, so why not change the Dungeon and Cultural Armour into skins so we can use the skins to transmog the Ascended armours?
Hell, WoW has a fantastic LFG system and has done for years
(and yes that is the only thing I genuinely like about WoW)And it only happened at the end of the 2nd expansion. I quit wow because of what the lfg did to the community, but thankfully gw2s isn’t an auto group finder / teleport into dungeons.
I started playing WoW back in ’04, and the LFG tool actually got me to play more, not less. It was great to be able to log on and jump in to a dungeon without having to wait around. To each his own, I suppose.
Exactly, I stayed far longer and made more ALT’s than I normally would as the LFG tool enabled me to level completely by dungeoning my way to 85
Not gone back for Pandas yet, but the new raid looks fun
It’s really not missed at all
RIP Holy Trinity!
Yup, definitely need Great Axes, My Charr warrior would switch to that in a heartbeat
Maybe even my Norn Ranger
I read through most of this and I have to re-state that the Charr can’t jump. Have you ever tried to do a jumping puzzle with a Charr? Its like watching a worm try and go up stairs…
That’s odd. How have I managed to do every jumping puzzle in the game then? Since they can’t jump and all.
Same. I hate the jumping bias of people, and laugh when they complain that my charr made them fall after I’ve completed the whole puzzle, watching them fail time and time again.
I admit I’ve found some jumping puzzles tricky with my Charr, but I’ve found them harder with my Norn
I admit though, if not for the heritage heavy armour, I wouldn’t have made a Charr either
