The Truth about QQ - New Patch Edition

I really can’t be overstated how correct this post is. The difference between high-level players and low-level players is high-level players learn to adapt, while low-level players usually whine without noting their mistakes. We absolutely should give constructive feedback and strive for a more balanced game, but complaining all day on the forums is usually the sign of a bad player.

Q&A from Bill Freist in the optimization thread:

“Q: My Second question is : Wasn’t all these problems caused because you have to broadcast every single condition/buff to everyone which is currently pushing your systems and servers/internet to its limits ?

“A: This is a good question. Buffs are a large part of Guild Wars 2 and at first glance you’d definitely think that telling everyone about them would be really expensive. In reality, this is only a hit with server→client traffic, which has been significantly improved with the handful of bandwidth optimizations that have already gone out. As far as server processing, its pretty minuscule (thankfully).”

Interesting. Could this apply to conditions? He left that part out of his answer.

At least in WoW, stealth was balanced

Lopez.7369

There’s a three- or four-second cooldown on stealth depending on the environment, so thieves are not “stealthing, then stealthing right after their first stealth runs out.”

They do need to and are adding a couple more mechanics to deal with stealth, but it’s mostly a learn-to-play issue. Just ask yourself, why are high-rated players not constantly complaining about stealth?

We’ve known about this since the game was released. The only response we received from developers is that they are working on a solution. We haven’t heard anything concerning this for over a year.

What this usually means is they probably haven’t decided what to do and how to do it.

You’re probably right. But an update would be nice after roughly six months of not hearing anything.

Just think about it. At this point, one of the developers has seen the thread about the issue, yet they haven’t responded at all. That’s worrying.

On the bright side, Chris Whiteside said in another thread that he’ll give a response about condition builds in PvE. I hope that happens soon.

Condition damage is an issue in PvE, WvW, and PvP since two characters can easily hit the cap in in any environment (for bleeds and also for burning). Designing a solution that only affects one environment (PvE) is not what we want/need.

I would like to imagine that PvP teams could field two or three condition characters to burst down high toughness targets. It may not be ‘the best’, but it would be a build option. Right now the condition cap make this idea impossible/stupid.

Ulari

As a top 100 PvP player, I can confidently say that you are wrong. Unlike PvE, players in PvP and world vs. world have so much condition cleansing that one, two, three or even four players can’t maintain 25 stacks of bleeding. That’s why raising the bleed cap would have absolutely no effect outside of PvE.

I know this is a bit specific, but I figured I’d try: Are you guys still working on bleed cap? It’s a very important issue to about half the DPS builds in the game, and it’s gotten a lot of feedback here and here.

Rangers in particular make no sense. It seems they didn’t take bleed cap into account at all when they made it so shortbow, which can act as a power weapon, capable of maintaining 10+ bleeds.

I may have gotten this but 800 gems is far too much for this kind of content. That’s like a monthly subscription and I don’t think that’s worth a month in subscription fees.

What you said is completely contradictory. If you bought it, it’s priced correctly. That’s how supply and demand works.

+1 for the “fire and forget” condition damage calculations. Seems the obvious compromise to fix the damage per tick at the time of application rather than polling every player every second to update the numbers. OK it might not be so accurate but it’s a kitten ed sight better than the ridiculous situation we have now, especially when non-condition builds spam conditions like there is no tomorrow to further exacerbate it.

I really want to know if this is even being considered.

It’s kind of interesting how the philosophy of the game is supposed to be “play with anyone you want,” but conditions clearly violate that rule. If I play conditions in a dungeon, I have to ban other condition builds and even most rangers and engineers. Even if I play power, I’m better off banning condition builds to avoid the risk of bleed cap.

Yes. I have fun, and I don’t think balance is nearly as bad as low-rated players seem to think it is.

Oh, high rated players think balance is great? Is that why there’s such a great variety of builds with all classes reasonably represented at high level tpvp and tournaments? Well, I guess I can put my concerns to rest then now that I know.

Except for elementalist — which I noticed you play — all classes were well represented at MLG. The winning team had a mesmer and lacked a necromancer, for example.

If you’re below 70 or 60 percentile, you shouldn’t be surprised that you’re getting new players. You probably deserve them.

when que pops take 5-10 minutes, you can be sure that ranking has nothing to do with it and it’s simply taking whoever is available at that time.

I’m OK with the event having a long respawn timer, but I don’t understand why the spawn window has to be so long. It hurts organization and effectively encourages waiting around so people don’t lose a spot in the correct overflow or main server.

Who's in charge here? Achievement

in Twilight Assault

Posted by: Lopez.7369

Lopez.7369

The achievement is either bugged or poorly worded. It says to “finish off his entire crew,” but it currently works so it’s actually “finish off his crew,” meaning that players only have to leave some of the crew alive before killing the boss.

I’m hoping it’s just poorly worded. If players are seriously expected to kill the boss while tanking and not killing a bunch of squishy adds, then the developers are severely underestimating class imbalances and how many cleaves and accidental AOEs exist in Guild Wars 2.

Dungeon is way too hard.

in Twilight Assault

Posted by: Lopez.7369

Lopez.7369

It’s roughly 2.4 gold in 20 to 30 minutes. Seems fine to me as far as dungeons go.

But I also think dungeon rewards should be doubled in most cases, including the new dungeon path. In a few other paths, rewards need to be rethought entirely. For example, the first path of Citadel of Flame shouldn’t be giving the same gold reward as the third path of Crucible of Eternity.

Condition DPS isn’t THAT bad in casual. I still use my rabid necro with my casual friends which some may have full soldier, or healing stats. I know my DPS will still be a large part in the group.

But when teamed with zerker teammate, especially in stack and spank tactics, you really see the difference.

is IS that bad in dungeons. It doesn’t even compare to zerk dps at all. I play a zerk warrior and a condition necro and I can tell you from first hand experience that conditions are a joke….

This is just wrong, especially when considering range capabilities and AOE. You see bigger numbers and do more burst with berserker DPS, but it’s pretty even in a long fight.

As far as I know we still haven’t had an official answer to the idea of not having condition stacks constantly re-updating themselves depending on the source’s condition damage stat and how much it could help performance. Somehow, I feel like a 100 conditions stack just doing their thing on their own would hurt performance much less than the 25 stacks constantly requiring data from the players that we have now, but I’m by no mean an expert on the subject.

I know it would induce some change to the way we play the game, making condition bursts more predictable, but also involving a bit more thought in the execution of a build (rather than the “fire everything !” method we tend to have now) and bringing back a certain gw1-like feeling, would that be so bad ? Also, since you can’t update direct damage after it’s been dealt, I wonder if this would not simply add consistency accross the board. Plus, I’m having a hard time imagining the logic behind making a guy bleed more by shouting “for great justice” or blowing my ranger’s warhorn…

While this would require gameplay testing and balancing from Anet I feel like this solution (which isn’t mine, I’m just bringing it up) would be a more simple one in that it wouldn’t add new mechanics (hence more complexity to the rules of the game) like full stacks dealing direct damage or other work-around solutions that are about adding mechanics on top of already existing mechanics instead of modifying and re-arranging those existing mechanics. And I think the effect on gameplay would be interesting.

As a condition user, I would take this over being unable to stack my full bleeds in a heartbeat.

Really? Every time I zone into an overflow, it has 20 people or less. Must be nice.

That’s where the guild comes in. We claim an overflow server to group up and make the kill a guarantee. It’s probably the most profitable thing any of us do each day, considering how little time it takes.

Not all of us have access to a competent group of people who are capable of killing this boss. Like I said, I’m on Borlis Pass, and from what I’ve read it’s not a very good server. I guess I don’t get to kill Teq.

That’s exactly right. If everyone could kill Tequatl, it wouldn’t be difficult by definition. That’s how raid content works.

Yeah, that’s great. Look at how you churned out all of the achievements! GW2 is made for people like you! And in a couple of weeks you’ll get to churn out another 50! Wow, so fun!

Every time I try to do this on Borlis Pass, I get dumped into overflow with 20 people. Though honestly, I think I prefer that when considering the fact that I’d have to sit in Sparkfly Fen for an hour doing nothing if I really cared all that much.

I represent my Tequatl-killing guild when he’s in the window to spawn, ask for a taxi to the correct overflow server, and kill him in 15 minutes. I get 1.8 gold, two rares, ascended materials, a bunch of other items and a chance for some amazing drops — all in 15 to 20 minutes.
