I start to notice these stealth changes since queen’s pavilion. I am sure they were around long before that. It’s a shame really and I am sure it’s not intentional per se, but it should be noted and adjusted.
Queen’s Pavilion is a good example. The last nerf to Deadeye was not officially documented.
Glad to see NSP is rising to the challenge, shame we won’t get to hunt Kevin for weeks though.
Yes… rising to the ‘challenge.’ Kind of like Icarus and the Sun.
Agreed, NSP is flying too close to silver league. The only challenge on NSP is going to be to see who can leave spawn the longest before having to go back to the invulnerable zone. 5 points if you down an enemy spawn camper, 10 if you do it and survive!
I’m thinking I might be able to portal bomb a camp or 2. Can we just agree though that the silver servers will let us have SM friday before reset so we can get our meta achievements done? Pretty please?
Spawn camping is so yesterday. Karma/WXP trains are the new thing when fighting outmatched servers.
1. Matchup imbalance – Most matchups should involve servers with relatively balanced coverage.
2. Stats imbalance – Ascended, World Abilities (esp. Guard Leech, Applied Fortitude), Bloodlust stats.
The only reason NSP is in silver is because we have more players (than HoD/Kain) that place their pride over their enjoyment of the game. Ignorance is bliss I guess.
Our only serious WvW guild (Os), knew that bronze was where we belonged, even though they wanted to be in silver for the competition. Some ignorant people flamed Os for this decision (which was a completely selfless one), so Os took us to silver to prove themselves to said people.
I’d say it’s some consolation to know that the NPS’ers that wanted us in silver are going to be getting their faces beaten in, but it’s really not. I won’t be able to enjoy my favourite aspect of the game for 7 weeks unless I leave my home server, which I have gotten very attached to.
This entire “WvW season” thing was a horrible idea, and is only rivaled in horribleness by the fact that Anet gave people so much time to destroy their own servers via transfers, stacking, throwing, and the results of differing opinions on those topics. I for one know that NSP was split between people who wanted bronze vs silver, and we risked losing multiple guilds and guild leaders over the whole thing.
As someone said earlier, those who see this as a challenge for NSP to overcome are delusional. The word “challenge” implies a chance of success. What’s even more ridiculous is how many NSP’ers think we fought hard and earned a rightful place in silver league. They don’t seem to understand that we are here because of illegitimate action taken by other servers who purposely lowered their WvW score to take what should have been our position in bronze.
What’s really funny is that Devon thinks he’s going to finish the Season 1 meta on NSP. The only way we are getting Stonemist Castle is if the other servers pity us and give it to us freely.
The leagues haven’t even started yet. Don’t get discouraged. You won’t be fighting the stronger servers every week. You guys are probably on par with IoJ now and during NA prime you’ll probably be on par with CD.
I’m on NSP and Curo is right in that we will almost certainly get stomped 7 weeks in a row.
We’ve been fighting servers in the silver league 4 weeks out of the past 6. We had IoJ just 3 weeks ago and CD 4 weeks ago. Unless they have suffered catastrophic loses of practically all their guilds, their population still far exceeds ours.
The funny thing is I’ll bet many (certainly not all, I can think of some exceptions) of those who were OUTRAGED that others wanted in bronze league will probably disappear out of WvW a couple weeks into the league.
What about this: if you’re fighting someone you don’t know what party he’s in.
Previously, if you pull someone out of a zerg, you know for a fact he’s at your mercy and the zerg can’t help him. Now, if he’s partied, say, with a warrior — that warrior can give him swiftness from within the zerg 1200 distance away.
It mostly bothers me in a theoretical sense because you have zero access to the information about your opponent’s party.
I’m curious why you think the Rox/Braham and the Christmas skins were not popular as skins? Is it because you saw/see few of them? If so, could that not be because selling direct is not as effective as selling using RNG, so few people bought them?
I’d guessing that selling gambling is FAR more profitable than selling direct, at least in the short term. We’re stuck with the gambling in this game.
I am disappointed that the RNG items don’t come as drops in this event (either directly or like the Jade Dragon Tickets). It’s just getting worse and worse.
They don’t even need to create the skin since there’s a charr chef who fight with it in one of the skill point challenges.
I think Sonder the Seller’s new rewards have been a disaster for morale all around. They give new options for spending candy, which sounds like it should be pure upside…but those options are out of reach for most everyone who isn’t filthy rich, which is worse than not being presented the option at all. Maybe the supply will go up before the end of Halloween, but right now it’s looking even worse than Dragon Bash’s Jorbreakers, which were at least mitigated by the fact that their prize could drop randomly.
This. People took one look at the materials needed to get the new skins and realized they were impossible to obtain. I think it sapped a lot of enthusiasm out of the event.
After every single update, my interact button — which is mapped to mouse 4 — ceases to work. For it to work again, exiting to desktop and restarting the game is sufficient.
I’m hoping it means they’re re-thinking the whole warning and rewriting it to be something that makes us not afraid to post, and something that protects and punishes all players and employees equally.
Unfortunately, the cat is out of the bag. People who have seen it are afraid to post. In any case, I feel it’s a reflection of Anet’s general attitude towards the forums and their customers.
How does wearing pink help awareness? How does putting pink pixels on an in game character help awareness? Its dumb when the NFL does it, and even worse in a video game. It is a fad, and people think wearing a color helps. HINT: It doesn’t.
Want to really help? Donate to Cancer research. Want to help even more? Set up a folding @ home pc. Or just jump on the pink fad, and try to make it seem like you are “helping”.
It’s good to raise awareness. However, the charity that has spearheaded this whole “pink” thing has some very suspect business practices.
Angry birds as a learning tool for physics sounds excellent.
The description of GW2 as a tool on the other hand sounded like sloppy/lazy teaching. I wonder where the funds for buying copies of the game came from.
I don’t see the issue with “You have been warned” being used in the final line. It’s just there to denote the seriousness of the post. It more or less relates to the paragraph just above it.
The whole post itself is a warning on it’s own to inform you of the consequences. There is no reason to add the “You have been warned” line at the bottom. It is threatening and unnecessary when the whole post already states that.
You don’t need to add the extra emphasis at the end to warn people when the post itself clearly states exactly that. It is aggressive, threatening, and unprofessional.
I agree. Extremely unprofessional. By the way, am I allowed to say this?
I now think the Candy Corn rewards are meant to be a long term reward. That’s why a home candy corn node is the meta reward.
It’s been confirmed that Sonder the Seller will continue to trade Candy Cobs for the Mini Prince and Halloween Pail. However, looking at the numbers…
Pail = 15 Cobs = 15,000 Candy Corn
Mini = 20 Cobs = 20,000 Candy CornSay you get 10 Candy Corn every day you mine the node. That’s rather a lot, but at least we won’t be under-estimating.
(15,000 cc)/(10cc/day) = 1,500 days
That’s over four years, assuming you mine the node every day. Nearly 5 1/2 years for the Mini. The Candy Corn node should be neat if you’re cooking with it, but won’t make a meaningful dent in the prices for these items even over time.
Don’t forget, next year, instead of 20,000 candy corn, it’ll probably be 2,000,000 so you’re never going to win.
I have to say I somewhat disagree with recruiting from Bronze league. It was not pleasant for us when we had guilds poached or left for higher tier play, plus a large part of WvW’s problems come from people leaving lower ranked servers for higher ranked ones.
We’ve got a LOT of PvEers, if we can develop or bring in some homegrown guilds via heavy recruiting (i.e., spamming
) during the temple zergs, I feel that’d be the best.
By the way Boom, at northernshiverpeaks.org, people might find a link to NSP’s orrmaps to be useful — dragon timer as well. Maybe gw2trade/gw2spidy and various gw2 buildcraft sites as well.
I think if http://northernshiverpeaks.org can become a go-to page for NSP’s PvE, then it could be really useful for encouraging people to try WvW.
People from the lower tiers will tell you that the higher tier players are zergers who only know how to press 1.
Oh come on now.
Do people really feel like they NEED to post PERSONAL ATTACKS against devs and if they can’t the forum is bad? Seriously?
The forum is already over-moderated and highly censored. Much of what the censor is simply criticism. This is simply a excuse for them to use to ban people who are critical.
It’s like passing extremely easy-to-break laws in order to harrass specific groups that you wish to target.
I think the “You have been warned” was a tad unprofessional. It sounds a bit like a parent reprimanding a child.
This. I got the same feeling reading that line. It’s an indication of their attitude towards their customers.
As others have stated, I would have liked to see a clarification on what constitutes a “personal attack” as well as clear instructions on what a player should do if they are feeling harassed or attacked by a staff member.
This also. Is it ok to say, “the devs are fools for doing XXX,” for “the devs are delusional if they think players want XXX” ?
The moderation in these forums is already way over the top. Looks like this “Collaborative Development” is going to end up being simply being players affirming that the game is going in the right direction.
It’s too bad because this forum is one of the nicest looking forums UI-wise I’ve seen — very clean, simple, and clear. Whoever created it did a really good job (though I’ve never gotten the “+1” feature to work). Reddit hurts my eyes!
Just so everyone knows.. the items that require 1000 x whatever it is you want to make, drop from mobs.. so you can get 1000 x whatever in basically one drop.
But what’s the drop rate?
I’m not privy to all the information, I just know the leaked patch notes came form the Sacrx WvW dominator guy from Red Guard. I’m quite sure he is a skilled player but why is his opinion on class balance more valued than some members of this community?
Sacrx got the leaked notes from someone in the testing corps. He’s been out of the testing group since alpha.
By they way, if you watched the video, he says that sPvP is the primary focus of balance. If you play WvW, this is very obviously true.
As for Anet balancing dungeons: I think it’s very likely that Anet doesn’t care at all about the top dungeon runners. They balance towards the average player, who is really bad at the game. Perhaps the videos of Anet devs playing with less-than-optimal gear is just their simulation of the average player? (That may be a bit far fetched.)
With the announcements of reduced BL stats and temporary GvG accommodations, the team has started to earn a little bit of trust from the hardcore WvW player base. Now would not be a wise time to kill it.
All the uproar (bloodlust, dev interference in GvG) must have caused player population to decline — that’s why we see any changes at all. They even stated in a post that only declines in population would trigger changes. It’s way too early to begin to trust the team.
While they are pretty terrible at P.R. and communication to their player base with regards to WvW, I do not subscribe to the notion as some do that they specifically refuse to listen to the forums.
Both GvG and Bloodlust had enough attention on the forums that it was recognized as a legitimate topic and added to the priority list. Those who preached negativity that it would never happen and Anet would never listen have to admit they were at least partially wrong.
That’s one explanation. The other is that gameplay time went down so much they were forced to act. Again, there was the dev post that said they would make changes only if WvW population numbers continued to decline.
So after trying to do the daily for completing the 5 door events I’m honestly a bit baffled at the design choices here.
First of all, what’s with the despawn timers? I had more doors disappear as I was running up to them than I actually opened.
Secondly, why does the daily have to be for completing five events that only have about a 1 in 5 chance of actually spawning? I opened a good 15 doors and only got 3 events before giving up on this one.
Finally could you give the “enter labyrinth” option an extra prompt or something, because I had to waste a lot of time and waypoint costs because of accidentally entering doors while I was trying to pick up the trick or treat bags.
Seriously, was just hoping for a bit of Halloween fun with my dailies this ended up not being worth my time and was not enjoyable in the least.
All good points. The worst is the “enter labyrinth” — massively annoying going to the labyrinth then laggy lions arch, then back to wherever you were before.
By the way, it would be nice if they released minion health, toughness, power, etc totals. Why be so secretive about it?
From the release notes:
“All player-controlled minions, excluding mesmer phantasms and clones because they were already increased in a previous patch, now have 71.43% more hit points in PvE maps.”
Anyone know or want to speculate as to why such a weird number?
Necros have zero reliable blast finishers.
While they are certainly not good for blast finishers this is the internet and since you’re wrong it must be pointed out.
Necrotic Traversal (flesh wurm secondary activation) is a reliable blast finisher.
This is technically true, but you’d be insane to waste a flesh wurm on a blast finish. Plus, for many fields, you don’t even have enough time to cast and blast it before the field expires.
Anyway, don’t rangers have even fewer blasts?
It’s interesting to note that the gap in rating between NSP and IoJ — the bottom two servers in Silver — is greater than the gap between Kaineng and AR — the top and bottom servers in Bronze.
For those people on GoM and AR: what do you think would be the state of your servers after fighting two (non-tanking
) NSPs every week for 7 weeks?
It’s actually going to be worse than that for NSP: NSP will be facing servers with 250 – 500 more ratings points for 7 weeks. That’s like GoM or AR facing servers like: NSP, IoJ, CD, YB, BP, Ebay, DB for 7 straight weeks.
The difference is that both GoM and AR would nut up and keep playing.
Only because you have OP fireworks.
Anyone that can blast a water field.
Necros have zero reliable blast finishers.

Expected to be letdown. Expectations were easily met.

Didn’t nerf it enough. Try again devs.
Hint: There’s only one correct answer. Zero stat buffs.
Anet is stubborn as a mule. I doubt they will ever remove the buffs.
AoE spells with a maximum number of targets will now count combatants that block or evade the attack towards that maximum.
What is this kitten?
This means that when you shoot your AOE you will hit 5 targets right? When 2 targets are blocking the AOE the AOE used to hit 2 others. Now the AOE will count the 3 targets + the targets that are blocking and not pick 2 other targets.
I’m very surprised they originally coded it this way. Didn’t really make any sense flavorwise, plus it caused more calculations/data retrievals to be made.
The more weapons we have the more Ascended gear we potentially have to grind for. For that reason, no thanks. (Though that hammer wielding necro nightmare warden from TA was cool.)
I’d rather have alternate skill sets to choos from for the weapons we already have.
Life force used to be bugged where necros had far less life force capacity than we were supposed to have. I remember it as 60% less! Is my mind playing tricks on me?
It is a new permanent path, yes.
Rather as permanent as things can be in GW2 (see TA F/U).
It’s an incredibly lame event, there is nothing inherently more fun about winning it than farming champs. Remove the farm and you will have nobody there.
This.
- The event is simply not fun enough in-and-of-itself for people to want to participate.
- There are no consequences if you lose: If you win, the invasion force disappears and the map returns to normal. If you lose, the invasion force disappears and the map returns to normal. If it’s all gonna be the same, may as well take the option that nets you the most loot.
Here’s an interesting thought: Let’s say Anet announces that Scarlet would be permanently killed off if she is defeated in over 80% of her invasions over the course of a month. I’ll bet we’d see server after server beating the event regularly.
I think it’ll depend on where they categorize these Achievements. If they’re put under WvW, I doubt PvEers will care at all. But if they’re prominently displayed like the Living Story achievements and give a cosmetic reward that PvEers can use (like the kites), we could see droves of PvE players in WvW.
I will enjoy tasting their tears of QQ as their achievement completion compulsion force them to come into WvW only to be instantly killed by my OP stacks of Guard Leech.
Seriously though, it may be a good thing for lower tier servers — perhaps some PvE players will be converted to WvW players.

Do you want that kind of ‘opposition’ for weeks on, without having anyone able to field the numbers to face you? You just don’t belong in Bronze League.
GoM and AR are at the bottom of Bronze I don’t expect GoM and AR to be the level of ‘opposition’ that’s representative of Bronze league.
That said, we’re going to Silver so you guys can tell us in a few weeks how the competition is versus Kain and HoD comopared to us.
I’m REALLY surprised at how many people don’t know how defiant stacks work. I think Anet failed in explaining it clearly. Perhaps they should have showed off the mechanic prominently early in the personal story?
does anyone know how mystic forging runes work? As in probabilities of getting a major vs probability of getting a superior. Do all runes have an equal probability?
I wonder if you can make money gambling runes in the mystic forge — 7 gold per traveler is quite a lot (but then almost every other rune is worth nothing).
It’s easy to stop karma trains by standing in their way.
Thanks, I’ll try this!
Actually, this weekend when I was running my commander tag for wxp trains people zoned in multiple times and told me with the “ppt” we were at we would become silver league and we should stop doing that. I was just trying to get my rank higher so that I could get applied fortitude and there wasn’t really any other way to do that other than taking towers. I was also told that multiple people were building in trebs in EBG and maxed out the siege limit so no one could build any other siege. That’s just an awesome strategy to make people actually have to melee gates to take stuff. Awesome job!
Also, these people told us (since we were wanting to be in silver league) to transfer off.
Well, hopefully people are happy because I have transferred off to a server that fights no matter who they’re matched against.
Best of luck in Bronze!
From the looks of it, I don’t think we’re gonna be in Bronze.
With my experience in PvE, I have to say, I feel 3/4 of the ranger pet complaints are completely invalid. the problem is 90% lazy player and 10% pet issues.
I control the flow of battle, I control where my pet is, and I watch for the telegraphs of bosses and move myself and my pet. I almost never, ever see other rangers doing that.
You want to complain about pets, try being a turret engineer, those things very literally cannot move at all.
Necro minion masters can’t do any of that
Devon’s already answered this multiple times, it’s just taking so long that it feels like they don’t give five ferinheight of a flaming kitten .
This. Anet talks a big talk, but rarely walks the walk. Scaling down these titles cannot be so difficult a task — we’re left with only one conclusion: Anet just isn’t bothering to do it.
If this tanking continues. |XOXO| will be looking for a new home. We’ve talked about it after today’s shenanigans. I’ve had enough. The guild is disappointed that this server has stooped the the lowest of levels as to throwing a match to not advance.
I hope we pull a comeback I really do. If so we will stay. If not, I know I am 100% sure I am leaving Nsp. My guild totally agrees with me.
Ups and downs our guild has always thrown itself into the enemy zerg or taxi’d many of golems for pvdoor. We have done everything we can to help Nsp get better with what little numbers we had. Zerged or not
I personally loved being on Nsp. This week after being told I should xfer ( for being against teh tanking). It opened my eyes. People here want ez fights and there extra blue in the chest. Well you can have them. Salvage some for me.
Tanks for nothing
Obs
No one is tanking for the extra blue (which is almost certainly all it will be) and easy fights. People are tanking because they want fights period. Karma training and being karma trained is what we’ll see in Silver league — it’ll mostly be PvD and that’s really boring for people who play for towers and camps (ironically the way Anet intends for us to play).
Those who take the week off, I sympathize with. But those harassing people who don’t wish to take the week off — that’s disgraceful.
Anyway, if you tag up Obs, I’m with you.
Anyway, if you’re just a casual WvW player you’re pretty much screwed. Those who play more than you are gonna leave you way behind in abilities.
Sad, but true.
It’s not sad. Of course they are going to leave them behind, there is NO reason why you should achieve the same things if you play like a half a hour a day rather than playing 5+ hours a day, the same way you aren’t owned money just because every other guy that work hard for the money, while you would just sit in home watching TV and eating snacks and smoking bud
This is PvP, not PvE. Playing 5+ hours a day compared to playing 1/2 hour a day should give you the benefit of more skill, not more stats.
Well too bad this isn’t Spvp, we are talking about wvw, my friend. It. Is. Not. Sad.
It has nothing to do with sPvP or WvW. It’s a principle behind competitive play. If some have advantage purely because of time spent in-game, then new players are discouraged from even starting out the game. Without new players, the game dies.
(I’m mostly talking about Applied Fortitude and Guard Leech.)
Apparently the WvW rankup chests are getting buffed next patch to have another piece of loot in them, so the bonus chests and ranking up in general will be worth twice as much as they are now.
Wow!!!! Two greens instead of one. That’s just awesome. I hope that doesn’t cause massive queues on my server.
Pretty sure i read that finishing Bottom in Gold League would give better rewards than winning the Silver League as well.
Funny, I’m pretty sure I read the opposite: That finishing top of Silver would be better than Bottom of Gold.
Anyone here for the tiebreaker?
At this point, I don’t think anyone wants in on Bronze league so that we (NSP) can stomp and “win.”
Rather, we’ve experienced (4/5 of our last matchups) being stomped by Silver league servers and people found it unfun.
Taking and holding towers is a big part of the game for a large number of players and that’ll be effectively removed from the game if we’re in Silver League. Retaking towers only for them to be zerged (by ENORMOUS zergs) every half hour gets old really fast.
But the worst part is that the zerg takes all your stuff and immediately leaves the map. All you’re left with is PvD and nary an enemy soul in sight! That’s the “challenge” that PPT players would see in Silver League. It’s no wonder people want to “avoid the challenge.”
Disclaimer: I’m speaking of after prime-time gameplay because that’s when I’m on.
Personally, I hope we go to Silver but I don’t really care all that much — I’m gonna get my fights in regardless.
