So even the permanent content in this game is temporary.
People seem to imply that ArenaNet took the “lazy way out”, which really doesn’t make any sense at all, due to the fact that fixing the bugs would most likely take way less time than doing the new path.
They need to make a new dungeon for advertising and publicity purposes (“XX new dungeons created after launch!”). If you look at it that way, then since the new dungeon is a given, not fixing the old one and deleting it instead is indeed the lazy way out.
Forward Up was one of the least played dungeon paths in the game, and was the best candidate for doing something like this.
Very likely it was least played simply because of the final boss issues. Which means you killed it not because people didn’t like it, but because you didn’t bother to fix the bugs.
Kaineng isn’t going to lose much more rating that it already has, I think. It’s doing almost as badly as it can right now against SBI so I’d expect that it’s not really possible to lose much more points that it already has.
If next week’s matchup were NSP, Kain, and DR/AR/GoM and Kain were demolished, that might be enough to push Kain below NSP but that seems unlikely.
By the way, if you expect Devon Carver to learn a lesson after having his server beaten up week after week, it won’t work.
NSP was just matched up with SBI then CD then SBI the previous 3 weeks and apparently nothing was learned.
Try out NSP. Great PvE server (not that it matters that much with guesting). Not zergy, as in you practically never see 30-40 sized groups running around.
Wait, what?
What is ANet’s fetish with cutting bits off of their own game?
An interesting fetish to be sure.
Would you be happy with a revamp where you press a single button to craft (e.g. a “Craft an Exotic Berserker’s Dagger” button)? Though I wouldn’t find this fun, I’d prefer it to the tedious process we have now.
Yes, please, give us this button.
I too want this button. But I’d prefer a more fun crafting experience.
I doubt they’d commit to 2 living story updates per month if they noticed people log in to do achievements only.
We can only speculate, the only one with real # is Anet, no company would make this kind of decision out of the blue. You’re assuming Anet behaves rationally, logically, and in their own best interests.
Instead, Anet has shown that they don’t listen to their customers and are very stubborn about admitting and fixing mistakes. They seem very shortsighted, often doing things that perhaps give them good metrics now, but probably will negatively affect the longevity of the game.
I would not be surprised at all if a large percentage of people are logging in only for the achievements.
Back to the thread: I feel the Living Story is a great idea in theory, but a total failure in implementation. There is practically no “Living” in the Living Story (Scarlet’s invasions have zero effect on the world) and the “Story” is amateurish at best.
I think Anet should have been more bold and had the Living Story affect zones permanently (something like the evolution of Southsun from a desolate island to a growing world of colonists). The world would feel more alive.
Plus, when players that missed the storyline return to the game, they at least get a “new” zone to explore.
You’re assuming Anet doesnt behave rationally (proof?) and doesnt follow the same steps that any company would before commiting to something.
No company will throw resources at something before checking the data, such as how many people log on before and after LS, how much time they spend online, what % of that time is doing LS-related stuff, etc.Anet has many flaws, as expected, but they certainly listen to customers (shown in GW1 many times) and made this decision based on real data, like any company does they are not new to this.
We can continue speculating and talking about the friend of my friend that doesnt log on anymore because of LS! but that’s anecdotal (worthless) evidence.
They may look at data but interpret it incorrectly. For example, they may see data of tons of people doing LS and think it’s because people enjoy LS when in reality it could be that people only care about the rewards/Achievements.
As for listening to customers in GW1. That was a very different Anet to the Anet we have now.
Anyway, your post seemed to indicate that Anet has data and therefore are taking the right actions. All I’m saying is that having data doesn’t mean you’re using it in the right way. And from their recent behavior, I personally believe (IMO!) that they are not.
Just be happy be don’t have to see Scarlet causing the Fall of Abbadon.
Let’s wildy speculate on why they’re removing a path instead of simply adding one!
- They want to spite all those who bombed the forum with F/U posts.
- GW2 population is now so low that it can’t support one more dungeon as it would spread players out too much.
- Their code is so poor that they can’t change how many Explorable paths are in each dungeon.
Edited last one, as Arah has 4 Explorable modes.
(edited by Lord Kuru.3685)
Now that we know TA F/U path will be removed in favor of the new Scarlett path, which fractal maps do you think will be removed to replace the new ones that are coming: Molten Facility, Thumanova, and one more (Aetherblade?)?
I’m guessing they’ll remove Swamp, Water, and Ascalon Fractals.
Edit: Sorry to mislead anyone, but no announcement has been made about removal of any fractals. It is pure silly speculation on my part — though it is possible now that there’s precedent, no?
(edited by Lord Kuru.3685)
The reason people hated F/U was because the final boss was too hard. They could have simply changed that.
It almost seems they are removing it to spite all those who complained. Kind of like what a child would do.
idk, is it really that tedious? I just did leathercrafting to 400 in one day. I spent a few gold to do it quick, but what other mmo can you max level a craft in a single day?
Did you find it fun? Or did you just want to max level a craft in a single day to get it over with? What if you could max level a craft in a single minute? Would that have been better?
I doubt they’d commit to 2 living story updates per month if they noticed people log in to do achievements only.

If tier 1 wasn’t matched up together so consistently, I think people would transfer off (and as another point, they wouldn’t recruit so hard either). People don’t wanna be in matches that aren’t fun.
And this is what the Leagues will do — there’d be less reason to stack into T1 since you’re guaranteed to fight all T2 servers anyway. The question is whether this cure will end up killing the patient.
Heck no. I would stop playing this game immediately if crafting involved mini-games. We already have enough mini-games to deal with on a daily basis, we don’t need more.
Crafting should be revamped to make it worthwhile and profitable instead of being a grind that makes you lose money. That’s the only revamp it needs.
So you enjoy the process of crafting? Or only the reward? Would you be happy with a revamp where you press a single button to craft (e.g. a “Craft an Exotic Berserker’s Dagger” button)? Though I wouldn’t find this fun, I’d prefer it to the tedious process we have now.
Make conditions fire and forget. In other words, make the damage it does independent of stat changes of the condition giver (e.g. getting might after applying the condition).
This should reduce the amount of computations (and data retrievals) necessary to determine condition damage and allow more conditions to be applied.
Does anyone find the act of discovering and crafting in the game inherently fun? Sure, some may enjoy the money made by crafting items that sell well. Some get to level their characters up faster. But in and of itself, crafting seems be me one of the worst parts of the game. It’s a tedious grind of “discovering” items using completely obvious formulas (not cooking).
Perhaps it should be revamped? I recall someone suggested in another thread that crafting should involve a minigame. Perhaps that’s a good idea?
You can sell the wigs (and the other items found) on TP – they do add up to a bit of change if you got a lot of them even if you sell them at 1 or 2 copper each.
Pretty sure you’ll lose money. Listing fee and all that.
Listing fee is a percentage of your sell price. If you sell at 1 copper, the listing fee is 0.
The real question is: who is buying these wigs on the TP? There are always tons orders to buy.
how new are you to the game? If you delete all your characters, you can transfer servers for free. That way you can try out different servers before making a final decision.
hopefully those in T1 will find it unfun crushing those in T2 week after week with no competition and spread out.
The art department is top notch.
And the ‘tankers’ could say they were busy with life, or ‘enjoying’ pve or playing a different game.
Not to mention some servers are losing guilds so they obviously will drop ranks.
Tanking can’t be proven because this isn’t a sport career/team, it is a game, where what a player does and participates in can change in a blink.
Even in professional sport it can’t really be proven, Google “Melbourne football club tanking saga” (Australia). In the end they were charged with ‘bringing the game into disrepute’, not with ‘tanking’. Personal opinion: they weren’t tanking, just an incredibly terrible team in terms of the people managing it, coaching, and playing for them.
This. It’s easy to tank without even trying: just log in a bit less, play for shorter amounts of time, quit when you’re tired instead of staying to check why that tower/camp has swords.
In the lower tiers, just a few nightcrew people being vigilant in the BL’s can prevent a couple flipped camps from snowballing into a couple flipped towers to a couple flipped keeps.
Not a balance issue. Rather, there is pretty much no incentive to double team the strong server. Rankings are determined by your ppt performance so you beat up on whoever you can to get as much points as you can.
Perhaps they should have had the rankings based on points where:
1st place —> 10 pts
2nd place —> 3 pts
3rd place —> 2 pts
or something like that, where there is great incentive to win the week. (Maybe even 2nd and 3rd place get the same number of pts).
Yes NSP, embrace silver league so we can show devon carver a thing or two.
It would suck enormously for us (NSP) to be in silver league. But it’d almost be worth it if it could make Devon Carver see the reality of WvW when servers are horribly mismatched.
By the way, what server are you on, OP?
A victim of guesting.
Easy solution: those who are AFK (for whatever number of minutes) when the zone fills up get booted into overflow.
you GvG’s Fail to Demonstrate your Desire to be Recognized?
You`re either a troll then or you have no idea what the gvg scene tried to do in the past and how we got treated.
I understand that maybe you`re a anet fanboy, but dont talk about things you have no idea of.I don’t Hate GvG but after that harsh Hateful treatment to an outsider who was trolling, make me ask myself, doe GvG use Hate to defend its Purpose?
Do GvG use Hate to stand its ground?
Do GvG use Hate to be Recognized and Respected by Arena.net and non-GvG players?
Do they??
-I have done GvG before with vast guilds and i choose to not continue-.
“Arena.net fanboy”, take a look at my post history and see for yourself.
Their words were barely offensive and pretty much to be expected in a game played mostly by young males. Especially when they’re being griefed — by an Anet employee no less. If everyone who spoke like this were banned, you’d pretty much have no one to play with. Perhaps Hello Kitty Online would be a more appropriate place for you.
All they really need to do is remove the bloodlust buff no actual work needs to be done.
This. In any case, I doubt they’d implement GvG anyway — they probably think it would hurt their precious sPVP.
I’d just like to make a note of one thing that I think people aren’t considering when they transfer to stacked worlds. You will not, repeat will not, be able to receive the reward based on overall world place in the league, unless you achieve the meta achievement for the season. If you aren’t able to get into WvW much, you won’t get the rewards. So it is absolutely taking a risk to transfer to a world that has a large WvW population.
You really don’t get it, do you. The great majority of WvW’ers … at least the ones that have been playing it since launch … don’t (or at least didn’t) play it for “rewards”. We played it for an enjoyable and entertaining competition against other players in the context of medieval warfare involving equal measures of team strategy and individual player skill. You, or at least ANet, sold the game on that premise … minimal focus on gear and heavy focus on content. The great majority of what ANet has done in the meantime, however, and virtually everything that you (Devon) have personally done, has been contrary to that. You’ve taken the fun, excitement, and entertainment out of WvW and turned it into something to be endured. And you keep doing it over and over again.
This is true. 100%.
You don’t need Ascended gear to do anything in PvE or be competitive in WvW,
This is false. Ascended Armor is coming. In all, the small stat increases that each piece of Ascended gear give add up. If you don’t realize this now you’ll regret later having to grind for Ascended weapons AND Armor at the same time.
Of course, WvW may not survive all this vertical progression anyway, so perhaps you’re in a way correct.
Speaking of the TP, the buy page still has that unreadable font.
If the Living Story were bigger — with whole zones changing permanently: say, Orr is repopulated, trees are now growing everywhere, etc (kind of like the evolution of Southsun Cove) then people who missed out on the process of this happening would at least get to see and explore a whole new Orr.
As it is, most of the Living Stories leave very little trace in the open world when they are done.
But it’s doubtful Anet is bold enough to toss aside the personal story (which would likely have to change drastically if the world were truly to change) and allow such major changes.
I never run with strangers. Ever.
Which sucks because as a result, I only ever get AC done. :|
I don’t run dungeons often but 95% of all my runs have been with a pug, of those only 1 was horrible some where bad and a few where absolutely great. For me the percentages are that you will find an ok to great team. Just wish I liked dungeons
.
But the one time it happens to you, that’s what you’ll remember. Since Anet doesn’t appear willing to do anything, the best you can do OP, is make sure you always enter the dungeon first. If you do and they kick you from the party then the whole party gets booted out and everyone loses all progress.
I didn’t find that making my weapons for my main burnt me out. If I was to try to do it for all of my 80’s… then yea… I’m sort of prepping for ascended armorcrafting now. Compared to some other mmo’s this isn’t too bad imo (although I preferred just exotics as max tier).
I dislike how they did the time gating though. Who are they to tell a player they can’t go get more frags on one day if they only have that one free day that week if they want to? IMO if they want to do time gating they could have done it in such better ways. Multiply the max rewards by 7, make it a max per week. That way it’s not just a daily chore and there is more flexibility for the players.
There’s a problem with your time gating approach too.
Someone who can play 5+ hours a day can likely finish the max rewards in 1-2 days. Then one of three things happens: 1) they have no reason to log into the game for the rest of the week. 2) they complain that there’s nothing for them to do, and they don’t want any time gating as its unfair to them (essentially your current argument taken to the extreme). 3) they then work on something else letting them pull ahead further of someone who only plays 2-3 days a week.
I don’t like time gating that much, but I still can’t think of a better method than daily time gated things.
Gw2 was suppose to be a game that you could take a break from and then come back and still be competitive/not have to rush to catch up to do any new content. Honestly, I am not looking forward to ascended armor, just like I wasn’t for weapons. To take someone else’s suggestion with my own twist. If they just let you add infusion slots to exotic armor via fractal relics it would have been the best thing for players (but maybe not the game economy).
Sounds like you think people won’t be able to control themselves with doing dalies in a game… I disagree.
With things that are gated a number of times in a week Vs. one per day… it just winds up being better for the people that can only log in for a few days a week (say weekend players), those who might miss a day here and there (say some one needs to go to the doctor or whatever), and the ones that log in every day can still do it every single day. It would just allow players to do it more on their own scheduals while it still being capped instead of every single day or you fall behind.
How would anyone really be falling behind? The stat increases are marginal at best. They are supposed to be “end game” weapons, something to work toward.
Besides, if you have gold, buy the time gated stuff off the TP and farm the ore and fragments at your leisure. You will have an ascended weapon in no time even if you can’t log in everyday.
Even if you buy the stuff off of the tp, you’re still limited to the number of frags/dragonite you can get in a day. Why not just make it that you can do everything 7 times within a week for those players that play a lot during the weekends etc.?
Because the frags and ore are still very easy to acquire. Sure, you can’t get it all in a day, but it doesn’t take that long.
Your argument is invalid anyway if you only play on the weekends. You think you can get enough of the frags and ore in two days, but still believe the time gated mats are the problem? If you are so casual that you can only log 1-2 days a week, do you think you should have ascended weapons in those 2 days? If it was easy enough for that casual of a player to have them in that short time frame, everyone who logs daily would have them in an hour.
You buy the ingots and planks on the TP and you end up time gated by the ore and frags anyway, so what is the difference if it moved to a 7 per week anyway? It’s as if you want a different solution, yet the one you offer has the same limitations. You are now arguing for the sake of arguing.
People don’t like to feel left behind, if you’re someone who plays only on weekends, you’ll feel like you missed out on 5 day’s worth of mats that you can never catch up on because of the time gating. I actually like his idea — it’d probably make these weekend players more satisfied with their gaming experience. (I’d imagine that they’re a big enough portion of the customer base that making them happy would be worth the trouble.)
Yet no one reads the things I post offering what the company is doing to make amends… They are so blinded by their hate and fury that they can’t see straight, where I’m patient and see through it all to the real efforts the company has made to fix things and learn like all of us do: FROM OUR MISTAKES!
Anet consistently over-promises and under-delivers. They have shown very little ability to learn from their mistakes. That’s why we’re skeptical of any “upcoming” changes.
So I understand this guy got banned … I assume someone actually took the time to file a ticket? It’s the only way I know to resolve issues like this, and if you take the time to document it, the issue gets resolved.
You think after all that griefing, no one thought to submit a ticket until now? More like Anet ignored this issue for months and months, and for whatever reason decided to act now (if indeed rumors of his demise are true).
Thats the problem. If you allow once… it will continue to go on. A small increase is okay? Why not a smaller one over that… and that? Thats the point.
Its to late for GW2 to be what it could have been… best to just bide your time and keep an eye on other games coming out. GW2 had the chance to be something unique… they turned it into the same ol same ol but people saying "A few trinkets are not a big deal’
This. The stat grind of Ascended armor and the sure-to-be-coming level cap increases are dooming WvW (and that’s independent of how badly the devs are treating WvW). The only question is the timeline.
From the success of WvW (way beyond dev expectations as simply a funnel to move PvE’ers to sPvP), it seems there’s a good market for a WvW-like game (open world, play as you want, no pressure, casual, etc). We just have to hope that some game company will take this concept and do it correctly.
Hopefully before WvW dies its final death, we’ll have some other game to move on to.
One can’t help but wonder whether this dev’s attitude reflects how devs speak of GvG within the company.
An insult? I have belonged to many organized guilds, and even owned one, and we have NEVER dueled or gvg’d. Ever. And we are the ones that are saving towers, wiping zergs, capturing etc… So how do you explain that? And the best part? We do it while the gvg groups are paying pretend behind the windmill. does gvg teach siege placement? does gvg teach attacking or defending a tower? does gvg teach ppl how to properly port a golem train? does it teach them how to stay in a group and not wander off of chase down a group higher numbered ppl? so please tell me again just how much gvg teaches any of these things, and I’ll give you my ocean-front beach house in Arizona, all taxes and transfer fees paid.
Terrible argument. GvG doesn’t have to teach any of the things you mentioned. Open field fights happen quite frequently in WvW; GvG helps guilds improve in open field fights.
One can’t help but wonder whether this dev’s attitude (“violating my game mode”) is reflective of how devs speak of GvG within the company. No doubt they would never officially admit it, but now I’m very very suspicious.
This is why you should watch your words when speaking as a representative of your company.
GvG is, in a way, like medieval tournaments of old. They allow people to practice their skills, kitten, and try out new techniques in a more controlled environment.
And for those who complain about queues: in the lower tiers (where this particular incident took place), there is zero issue. GvG or fight clubs usually take place on Thursdays when the match has long been decided and when player population is low.
well something has to be done as right now rank 5 and rank6 server will face the worst leagues ever. why cant we just have it so if u are being destroyed in 1 league u will move down to the second league and the ones winning league 2 move up to league 1 or something.
rank5 and rank6 will be stuck in those horrible blowout matches for weeks and that is not fun for us at all.
this for the whole league is really gonna happen as anet separated t2 and t1 . now rank 5 and 6 suffer vs the horribly stacked t1 servers.
http://mos.millenium.org/na/matchups/map/1019
Maybe a few weeks of blowouts for the T1 servers will encourage guilds to spread out since it’s no longer T1 vs T1 (more or less) and the need for stacking is lessened?
In any case, for the lower leagues, a spread of 9 ranks between top and bottom is still quite large.
Making T1 the Gold league by itself won’t help push players into transferring to lower tiers (which I believe is one of the reasons behind the League idea).
With T1 and T2 as the Gold league, there may be just enough boring weeks of blowouts that some guilds might consider transferring, but not enough to destroy WvW with too many blowouts.
He was going out of his way to interfere with how they wanted to play the game. The guilds being out there didn’t affect his experience at all, but he intentionally tried to mess with them.
This. With emphasis on “didn’t affect his experience at all”. It’d be bad enough if he was just some random guy — but once he popped his tag, he represented Anet.
By the way, “my game mode” sounds really really bad.
What I usually see in these mismatches is where the stronger server’s zerg takes everything in the weaker server’s BL and then leaves. The weaker server then takes back their garrison, and a few towers. When enough has been taken back, the strong server’s zerg returns and wipes everything. Rinse and repeat. (Same for EB.)
This is magnified by the fact that the weaker server’s players stop showing up and the stronger server’s PvE players pile on for the world completion and karma.
Basically, the whole week becomes a karma farm.
It’s just going to get worse for the leagues. Just imagine how fun it will be for #12 to “test their skill” against #1.
Hey DevonCarver, us bottom tiered server would like for you and your WvW decision buddies to join us over the next course of 7 weeks of WvW fun.
And I mean for you guys to actually participate. Not looking at stats and numbers from data collection. Join one server, a week and actively participate
Then actually get back to us with a written report on how fun it is
Sincerely
All bottom tiered servers that has kittenised by league
I will be on NSP throughout the duration of the season. And I will be getting the meta achievement.
Good, We will likely need you as a defender in NSP Borderlands on reset. Feel free to join us in Gendarian (sp) Fields about 30 mins before reset.
Is that where everyone meets before reset? I always thought it was LA.
NSP is ranked #17. In the silver league, they’re right in the middle of the pack. If there is any problems getting achievements being on NSP, then those from 20-24 are really going to have it bad.
