I’d just like to make a note of one thing that I think people aren’t considering when they transfer to stacked worlds. You will not, repeat will not, be able to receive the reward based on overall world place in the league, unless you achieve the meta achievement for the season. If you aren’t able to get into WvW much, you won’t get the rewards. So it is absolutely taking a risk to transfer to a world that has a large WvW population.
Unless, of course, matches are decided within hours of day one and the lower ranked servers just quit (very likely if they’ve already been blown out several weeks in a row).
WvW population then decreases among all servers for the rest of the week alleviating the queue issues for the higher ranked servers.
In fact, because population decreases affect the lower ranked servers more, it will possibly be they who have problems obtaining achievements from lack of players.
It means they are intending to raise the level cap but are afraid to say so because if players knew right now that the grind that they’re putting into Ascended weapons and (soon to be) Ascended armor will have to be repeated again for higher level gear, many would quit immediately.
Why are shouts affected by blind?
About servers listed as high: same thing as fast food joints selling “medium” as their smallest size.
Maybe you can convince some of your big WvW guilds to come together to do Tequatl.
Don’t look at this as an “I quit!” post. I didn’t, not yet. I’m hanging around (with rapidly fading enthusiasm, I admit) to see what happens for now.
You are wasting your time son. This game will never be what you or I wanted it to be.
They made a choice long ago to follow this path and there’s no coming back from it.I can predict one thing with certainty though, call me crazy if you must. The game will not die. It will become more and more similar to conventional MMOs. More vertical progression will be added, new levels and gear tiers. New grindy elements and features will be added, to the point the game will be unrecognizable.
Yes, it will loose many players in the process but in the end it will remain a popular game. A game I won’t be playing.
As it becomes more similar to conventional MMO’s it puts itself into more and more danger of being obsoleted by the newest and shiniest conventional MMO that comes out.
Anet was formed by Ex-Blizzard Employees. It’s perhaps time for some Anet people to split away and form their own company.
ranks should just give skins… similar to the achievement point chests.
That’s terrible. One would think that — even though Anet doesn’t really care enough to do anything about griefers — in such an obvious and extreme case, some action would be taken.
Have you all tried reporting him for verbal abuse? (Isn’t that one of the report options?)
Araris. You are wrong about sparing the 2-5 players.
Consider this. kaineng is not even down with the lowest servers. On each BL at any random time we might have 1 group of 5 people. If we gather up all three borderlands, we may have a zerg of 13-15.
That is 15 players to take and defend… sorry sparing 5 for bloodlust when they will get rolled on by 15 is a waste.
YOU may be able to spare those players… but most of the silver league will not be able to spare those numbers.
I think this post illustrates my point perfectly. I am not saying that players in lower tiers count less, they count the same amount of any player. And there are far less of them than in NA T1. Balance should focus on making matches where the majority of players participate balanced and enjoyable. If the mid tiers (lets say t4-6) of NA held the majority of players then that is where the balance should be focused on. If the majority of wvw population was Top tiers of EU, then that should be the benchmark; however, it is not. The majority of players (not just the match up with the most players) play NA T1 represented now by Blackgate, Sanctum of Rall and Jade Quarry.
The Blood lust buff fixes many of the problems the majority of WvW player experience.
In terms of numbers its simply a net win.
So you’re saying that there are more WvW players in T1 than in the rest of the tiers combined?
Looking at Anet’s recent behavior and some statements by the devs, you can almost guarantee the level cap will be raised.
It’s a great way to bypass their statement about having no more tiers of gear past Ascended. Better start preparing to craft your level 90 ascended gear!
Ah come on people isn’t it clear already?
Still have insane skill lag
5 dollar budget for WvW ( they gave a 100 dollar bonus for the extra bloodlust points )
Numbers equals winningNow compare that to PVE
New content every 2 week
New Gem shop items
Bosses/Dungeons updates
Hidden changes in the living worldShould I mention Spvp between this? Nahh, what is Spvp right? Tutorial zone for WvW lol
GuildWars 2 is a PVE focused game, they probally make 90-95% of their money out of it from the PVE side.
I think we should wait for new open world mmo pvp games, its over in GW2 my humble opinion
To be honest, much of the new bi-weekly content is pretty low quality as well — full of bugs that never get fixed, recycled “F” – pressing mechanics. They’re basically a bi-weekly list of mindless achievements.
It seems Anet as a whole has some serious problems. It doesn’t help that they don’t really care about WvW as a game mode, and are trying to push as many people away from it and into their failed sPvP.
“object” world bosses:
- fire elemental
- shadow behemoth (still dies very fast)
- jungle wurm
- golem mark 2
- shatterer
- tequalt
- claw of jormag
I believe you can tell whether something is an object by color of its name when you select it. Yellow means object.
WvW is in a very precarious state right now as it almost seems the WvW devs are trying their best to kill it. The danger that the upcoming Leagues will push all remaining players away is very real and what Anet does or does not do in the next few weeks will determine whether WvW remains as a viable game mode.
As for sPvP. Anet’s still has delusions of grandeur (with emphasis on delusion) that it will be an esport.
wvw isnt dying, they have numbers they wont let us see that say otherwise
Au contraire. If WvW was thriving, they would be shouting it from the rooftops.
What do we have instead? Almost complete dev silence.
This is true, they boast about every little thing they can, but we’ve heard nothing about WvW.
As I understand it (not sure if correct), RNG first determines an ordering of all the servers from 1 to 24 (with lower probability to move far from your current rank), matches are determined in groups of three with the server ranked highest in a group as green, next one as blue, and lowest ranking one as red.
They’re just helping you prepare for the upcoming leagues when you face megablobs from stacked servers, you should be grateful.
This. After all, do you want to test your skill against higher ranked servers?
So you would rather have no progression what so ever?
I do not have ascended weapons yet, and I run a D/D elementalist, which apparently the majority feels are weak to begin with, and I can still compete with guys rolling with ascended weapons. Any other MMO I would have no chance.
I would rather have no progression whatsoever.
Do you have Guard Leech and Applied Fortitude? With all these forms of vertical progression combined, the difference becomes quite significant.
The main difference is that in a game like WoW, the difference is so massive so that someone with lower tier gear CAN’T even defeat the other guy, unless the other guy is afk.
This is what I don’t get. How is it that PvP in WoW survives with this type of situation?
As far as I know, all MMO’s have stat/gear progression. How has, for example, WoW’s PvP been affected by it? Do new players get instantly killed by veteran players? And if so, how does the PvP remain fun?
Looking at how PvP has been affected by vertical progression in other MMO’s, how do you see vertical progression (stats/gear/WXP abilities) affecting WvW in the long run?
(Assuming there is a long run, and that leagues don’t completely kill it, of course.)
The living world has turned out to be nothing more than a series of achievement sets that involve repeating the F key over and over and over and over again.
It’s not living — your actions basically do nothing to change the outcome of the story. And as stories go, they are pretty bottom of the barrel.
You could clog up their queues really badly. That actually might do something positive.
Some people want less zerging, some people want more. Some people want more open field fighting, others want siege warfare. Some people care about PPT, others only care about killing the other team.
IMO, WvW is popular precisely because it has enough room for all these types of play.
Achievement points are going to attract achievement point hunters. Maybe some will enjoy WvW, but in the end, phantom content like achievement point hunting will not keep players in WvW — they’ll move on to the next achievement lines when these are done.
A bug as huge as that wouldn’t have stayed an entire year. The chances that anyone at anet would admit putting in a nuisance on purpose is zero. If it was a bug, they would have said so after an entire year. The fact that nothing has been said or done means that it was intentional.
There are many many bugs worse than this one that have been around for a year.
Is it available for a limited time like the last 3 harvesting tools, or is it a permanently added item to the TP? Will I have time to farm gold for it, or is this another now-or-never item?
I bought the last 3 tools for 25g~, and now it is roughly 42g~. Inflation delays my speed and I want to be able to buy this for an alt. I can’t find anything that says it’s temporary but these things tend to be.
thanks
Making it limited time puts pressure on players like you to buy gold with real money before the item disappears.
Imagine the QQ on the forums and the accusations that will be hurled at WvW and Arena net when the achievements for wvw are rolled out, you remember the QQ about the Kite in the EB JP of people complaining about getting killed in a pvp zone getting to that kite? imagine that in wvw but while trying to fulfill the achivements, it will be an absolute spam fest, imagine them trying to flip a keep then getting wiped constantly, my kitteh the QQ after that
I’m guessing a lot depends on how these achievements will be classified. If they’re put under the WvW grouping (and with WvW rewards like finishers) it’s very possible PvE’ers won’t even bother with them.
However, if they put the achievements under a more general category, those achievement-addicted PvE’ers may come on in droves. Their tears shall be delicious.
Ascended isn’t what makes fractals doable, infusions are. The two are tied together but that doesn’t make them the same. They could easily implement the infusion system without ascended items.
This. “Ascended had to be introduced because of Fractals” was just a flimsy excuse that Anet used to introduce Ascended gear. Too bad so many people simply take their word for it without thinking.
Do hillbillies even exist in Tyria?

There are risen gorillas in Cursed Shore. And don’t forget the Champion Purple Gorillas of Death at the temple of Lyssa.
Interesting. So it seems they will be making different unlimited gathering tools every once in a while.
Which is what I expected. It wouldn’t be fair to simply have them for one point and then never offer them again. It also wouldn’t be a good business decision since they can easily make profits on such items.
I’ll hate myself slightly for it, but I might actually buy a bone pick even though I have a molten pick already…
Forget fair! It would be a terrible business decision not to bring them back, but with alternate skins. That alone told us that we’d see something like the Bone Pick.
The next time Scarlet invades Sparkfly Fen, can Tequatl just jump out of the water and eat her?
It’d be hilarious to see Scarlet, in the final phase, appear at Tequatl’s location. Would his tidal wave of death kill her?
Maybe that bug where Scarlet picks a player and consistently spawns at his/her location can be used to arrange this (if all the stars align).
I think it should have never been introduced to alleviate the pain of grinding for it.
Well its in and needed for higher level fractals.
Nope. That’s just a cover that Anet used to justify introducing Ascended gear. In reality, more AR is needed for higher level fractals. Anet could have just added infusion slots to exotics.
Also, its a luxury item. The game only requires masterwork armor for 95% of its content. There really isnt a reason to grind for it unless you do fractals.
Not so if you WvW.
We were told we would get our end game gear and never have to worry about it in the future. But no. More and more ascended items keep coming out.
Regardless of what anyone said, what sense would it make in a game that is planned to be alive for a decade or more to have an ENTIRE system in place – itemization – completely END within a month of players starting? OF COURSE they are going to continue item progression. Sheesh.
Because the end game was supposed to be — according to the devs-- actual playable content (dynamic world, etc.) combined with grinding for cosmetics.
What else are you supposed to do the day after reset when the match is already decided?
Because unfortunately, most people are fair weather band wagon jumpers. You see a lot more people transferring to higher tier servers than to lower tier servers.
Much respect to anyone to has transferred to a lower tier server.
What is the point of server allegiance? The only allegiance most players should have is to have fun and sometimes that requires a transfer.
Allegiance gives people a sense of community and belonging. Why do people have allegiance to their hometown sports team? I think it’s very similar.
If i was new to this game I’d never WvW or be a zergling because of how far behind you are out of the gate level 80 full exotic. We’re trying to build a guild with new players to the game and before this last patch that was possible, but now when your sever is getting stomped by a T1/T2 US server with no bloodlust on your side it’s pretty hard to train a group up.
This is a huge problem. With no new players, WvW is doomed. Similarly, with no ability to change builds (without severely gimping your stats) burnout comes much easier.
The only argument i can even remotely come up with being the devils advocate here is wvw is considered by some players as endgame? I mean for me personally after playing some wvw on my first character I specifically rolled an alt, leveled him through crafting to 80 and then went into wvw. He has only touched the minimal pve stuff for some farming but for the most part he is my wvw character. I would never have brought him in below level 80
With exotics, no problem because they were relatively easy to get. I’d be concerned about the effect the (really hard to get) Ascended gear will have on new players and WvW.
As for uplevels… I used bring mine in to WvW, but just for fun and leveling, knowing that they could possibly be killed in an instant. (I don’t play alts much anymore because of Guard Leech and Applied Fortitude).

Ascended gear.
No mercy for the new player.
Nuff said.
j/k
This is true. You’re lucky you began playing now. Once Ascended armor comes, new players will never be able to catch up.
It would be nice if we had another way of obtaining Dragonite Ores other than WvW and World bosses. I mean Bloodstone Dust is just flowing like water and Empyreal Fragments keep piling up with doing Fractals, Puzzles and Dungeons daily. They even drop from random chests scattered all over Kryta.
Dragonite Ore seems to be the only one that is scarce and the mounts we get from Metas are quite laughable, with 2-3 on average from low level metas to MAX of 30 per heavy metas. Where I can easily obtain a stack of Bloodstone Dust from running a fractal.
What’s your take on it?
I’d hardly count WvW as a source when you only get it from the top line towers, and at most 5 per tower lord. It’s a real problem for WvW players.
My biggest gripe is that Obsidian Shards (which most probably will be needed) are quite hard to get these days.
Guest on a server that did it. Use gw2stuff to check. On the week ends there’s at least one server that completes it. Then buy as many as you want (I bought 500 last time).
NSP does all the temples (unless bugged) every day starting at 5pm pacific time. Balthazar — where you get the shards — is usually the last one done.
It’s almost certainly a mistake. But they will probably never fix it.
i like how 2 superior rams drop a gate atm. with golem mastery, we wont even need a gate… i mean, what will be the response time to come and defend a keep now? 37 sec?
is this what people call power creep? getting things so buffed that actual content becomes meaningless?
This. It’s getting pretty ridiculous. Especially in the lower tiers where much of the time you simply can’t have someone in every tower.
Please, no more Destiny’s Edge. Or at least kill off Logan.
The transmutation stones are there to get you hooked on looks before level 80, so that Anet can make money off of you from transmutation crystals when you hit 80.
If you zerg in WvW you want PVT. If you roam, fight in small groups, or solo your gear should be determined by your playstyle.
In GW1 you could move all different aspects of the UI practically anywhere you wanted.
It’s sad that GW2’s UI has almost zero customizability.
The game released with nothing resembling the manifesto in place. A year later it’s as if the manifesto never existed. It was a publicity stunt. Anet uses them a lot along with their descriptions of content (dynamic events, living story) misnaming and misrepresenting things in order to sell them. It’s what they do. The game they said they were building doesn’t exist and it never will. Either you have to accept what you have, or you don’t. But those are the facts.
This is true. Remember the abomination that was the “new dungeon” (Canach’s Lair).
In the end, it doesn’t matter whether it was a lie, or broken promise, or purposefully misleading — the final result is that your customers no longer trust your words. That’s not good for business.
I don’t know about anyone else but I kinda don’t mind some servers being higher pop than others. You get (or should get) a different experience depending on whether you’re in T1 or T2 or T3 or what, that’s kinda cool, but I don’t really know if that requires the servers to stay as they are.
I’m on NSP (ranked #17) and I kind of feel the same way. As I understand it, T1 plays completely differently than the lower tiers. It’s good to have variety. However, the current RNG matchmaking system sets up really bad mismatches just way too often.
too many servers for the number of people playing WvW.
In its current sad state, this may be true. But this may primarily be a symptom of the problem instead of a major source of the problem. Remember that Anet has pushed many many players away with its poor handling of WvW. If they turn around and put some honest effort into saving WvW, these servers may begin to fill up again.
It’s unbelievable they only just started seriously selling finishers. They were probably too busy dreaming about the money that esport sPVP would bring in to think about ways to monetize PvP/WvW.
Maybe it’s the game, maybe it is us.
No… it’s the game. Anyway, prepare thread for deletion, in 3… 2… 1…
there are 5 ruins per map. i don’t really think it’s too hard to take out some of them for your own …… not too mention often time people just leave it die out ….
thing is if u are already blew out its just u have no numbers to do anything anyway.
regardless buff is here or not
When you’re in one of these unbalanced matches, whoever you send, your opponent can send 2 — plus, they have the extra advantage of the buffs.
