There is a 25 stack limit on conditions. Presumably that’s because Anet’s servers can handle up to 25 condi-computes per second.
That’s the assumption you’re basing this topic on and it’s at least partially wrong. Why? Let me explain.
Let’s say there are two players and both are able to maintain 25 stacks of Bleeding. They’re on the same map and near each other, but fighting different mobs. ANet’s server now has to calculate the damage for 50 stacks of Bleeding.
These players notice a champion and start fighting it together. Now, for some reason, ANet’s server can only hande 25 stacks of Bleeding on that champion? Can’t be true.
The only reasonable conclusion is that we don’t know the whole story. With that in mind, we can’t really suggest a solution other than “fix it ASAP”. Because that’s what they should do.
It’s not that the servers suddenly can’t handle 25 stacks on a champ, it’s that they have to cap the stacks assuming the worst case scenario — which would be something like your example: multiple people all fighting different mobs and giving 25 conditions to each mob. (Of course, they could have variable caps depending on how many conditions have been applied on that map, but that would be really confusing to players.)
In any case, fire-and-forget conditions are certainly less computationally intensive and actually more intuitive (why are newly placed might stacks changing condi damage on a mob after you’ve put it on him already?). The only issue I see is that balance has been done assuming the current system.
My hope…. changes to the scoring system. If the way scores are calculated are changed, it doesn’t matter how they do the tiers. Servers with the most number of players should receive fewer points than less populated servers. That would result in a more even match-up (score wise) between T1 and T4.
So that you win even if you get beaten up? I personally don’t like that at all.
At this point, I’ve pretty much given up on having any semblance of balance in terms of server populations. I’d settle for the current RNG system, with a bit less chance of having huge mismatches.
Well lets hope they listened to us at least a little. Maybe they even reworked he bloodlust buff, which in my mind is worse than the leagues.
Although, I have to admit, I was looking forward to SBI playing SoR, BG and JQ. Although if it doesn’t happen, I won’t complain.
If they did listen to us, it’s only because of drastically declining WvW numbers (as stated in Devon’s infamous alpha forum post). It’s good if we get a positive change, but if it takes loads of people to stop playing each time we need a change, then the game mode is in trouble.
As for SBI: I’d love to see you get beat up by SoR, BG and JQ all at once, 3 on 1, for what you are doing to NSP right now
They are breeding disdain deleting threads where people are discussing the dislike for Teq and the decisions of the developers, so I dunno whether this thread will remain.
The facts speak for themselves that the majority doesn’t enjoy the change.
Yeah… this forum is heavily censored. With all the negative posts that get through, I can’t help but wonder how many more have been deleted.
As for Tequatl: I’m actually not sure how fun the event is because either there’s no one doing the event, or at prime-time, I’m stuck in overflow. Overflow has been a serious issue in this game since the beginning, and there’s been zero improvements.
Silver league is being merged with Gold to provide tier 1 more variety
And also so that all servers may test their skill against the highest ranked servers.
I’d imagine that the kill tequatl strategy will be refined to a point where pugs using random gear will be able to do it. That’ll take a bit of time… but by then, there should be no more overflow problems as the event is no longer fresh.
The only fear is that it may simply be impossible for a pug group to put out enough DPS in 15 minutes — that all depends on how much health Tequatl has.
Low FPS is your (computer’s) fault.
Skill lag is Anet’s fault
TLDR for post above:
Using fire and forget conditions might allow to removal of the 25 stack cap, to be replaced with a 25 new conditions/second cap. (Roughly)
That’s what I said a long time ago. The live computing of condition damage (and other things) COULD be left out to reduce some stress. It’s still a design choice.
But well, it wouldn’t allow indefinite stacks on world bosses. There even criticals care left out for lower stress. Yet, it might increase the cap from 25 to like 40. Not much help, but probably nice for dungeon parties.
Let’s call one unit of condition damage computation a “condi-compute” — in other words, all the computations that goes into calculating condition damage (player stats, might, super veggie pizza, etc.)
Currently, for every tick of a condition, one condi-compute must be made — because the player’s stats may have changed, his boons may have changed, is food may have changed, etc.
There is a 25 stack limit on conditions. Presumably that’s because Anet’s servers can handle up to 25 condi-computes per second.
With this alternative method, because conditions would be fire and forget, condi-computes only need to be made once — when the condition is applied. So the 25 stack limit would become, under this new method: “a maximum of 25 new conditions can be applied per second.” In this way, the server only has to do a maximum 25 condi-computes per second, just like with the current method.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Think of it also this way, in terms of upkeep: currently, for each player who has a condition, the server must do a computation (and/or data retrieval) for every single player who has put a condition on him. This amount of computation/data retrieval gets big really fast — on the order of (# players)^2.
For the alternative method, for each player who has a condition, once the initial condi-compute is done, the server only needs to retrieve/compute information for that player (if he has eaten condi-duration reducing food, for example). This amount of computation is only on the order of (# of players) so is gonna be smaller.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I’m very surprised that Anet chose the current method in the first place. It clearly makes everything much more complicated — is there something wrong with fire and forget conditions that I haven’t thought of?
(edited by Lord Kuru.3685)
Yes it is intented. Dont think it will ever be changed.
A few patches ago they loaded all the playerbase with stockpiles of BoH from the achievement chest. Any half-decent PvE player will easily have gotten between 2000 and 3000 free badges without ever setting foot in WvW.
So to allow those exotics real value would basicly mean ANet handed everyone a dozen free exotics to salvage for Dark Matter or toss in the forge and see what happens and sell that.
That wouldnt jive well with the grind intent behind getting ascended gear.
This. This is why we never get good things for badges.
If you are letting a warrior use Vengeance you deserve to lose the stomp points.
But if you let a Guardian or Necro, or Thief, etc. use their #3, you do deserve stomp points? That makes sense how?
AC are the only counter defenders have to an extent .The walls offer no protection the inane LOS gives all the advantages to the attacker not the defender .Clones can zap through gates and to the top of walls .Pets simply fly ….Walls offer no reduction shield to AOE …
Attackers have many advantages now defenders few ,to increase that bonus even more is the the only ridiculous statement in this thread .
This is true. Walls are more of an advantage to attackers than defenders. The defenders have a much smaller area to move about, with serious LOS problems, while attackers can carpet those thin walls with AOE and move about freely.
In the lower tiers, we simply can’t have someone in every tower at all times. Because of this, I actually think superior siege like rams and cats are OP (not to mention with the masteries) in these lower tiers.
SPVP is casual. TPVP – hardcore. WVW – end game and hardcore.
The way I see it, WvW is both casual and hardcore. If you’re a casual player that wants to play with no pressure, you can join a pug zerg. If you want hardcore PvP action, it’s certainly available as well. That’s why WvW is so popular.
Unfortunately Anet seems intent on pushing all hardcore players into sPvP thereby killing WvW.
The real problem is that initiative is way too easy to come by. It recharges so fast that a thief can continuously cycle: fight, stealth, retreat, return — until all your skills are on recharge. But none of his will be because initiative recharge rate is so broken. Then he comes in for the kill.
… at least on world bosses etc:
Currently, condition damage is calculated individually every second (because the damage may change if, for example, you gain might after applying the condition).
This means tons of calculations must be done for every second, for every condition applied.
Change it so that damage is determined (using your condition damage stat) only once: the instant you apply that condition. The should reduce computations enormously and should allow uncapped condi stacks without killing Anet’s servers.
Now it may not be balanced for player vs player settings or even for general PvE environments (both debatable), but at the very least do this for world bosses so that condi specced people aren’t completely left out!
Each server (in NA) will play against each other at least once. But you will need to play against three of them twice (work it out) over the seven weeks.
JQ could have the misfortune to cop SoR and BG twice.
JQ vs SoR and BG twice would actually be for the best. Imagine if JQ were put up against lower level servers twice: that would be zero fun for everyone involved.
Nobody in game.
Nobody in forum – Look how slow the posts are.Maybe a revert and rethink….not coming back until I can at least enjoy the game you used to have.
Yes. A revert: to Habib for a start (not that he was good, but look what we have now.)
Yep anyone is better then Devon, cuz unless you stop playing Devon doesn’t care or wants to listen to the community. Only thing that matters is gem sales and player #s in game.
https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/106138/I4E780N.jpg
I wonder if the “continuing declines” he speaks of means WvW population is in decline (not surprising if true, but always good to hear confirmation) or whether I’m taking that out of context.

Devon plays on SBI and he’s terrible. Also raises a lot of questions about the matchups SBI keeps getting, since everything indicates they will conveniently land at the top of Silver League. /tinfoilhat off
I think SBI is definitely gonna be in the gold league — I believe they’re at rank 10 right now and may not have even settled into the correct rank yet (because of recent large transfers into SBI).
As for Devon: I’m on NSP facing SBI right now. Anyone know when Devon is usually on (I’d like to think that WvW devs play regularly, if only as part of the job — though I wouldn’t be surprised if it weren’t true)?
For those on SBI: do you pick him up when he’s downed? Because I certainly wouldn’t if he were on my server.
Servers don’t really have to actively tank — as in not logging on, naked armies, etc.
I’ll be a lot of people simply aren’t trying as hard. As someone said in a similar thread, if you’re tired, instead of fighting through it as you did before, you now log off for the night. It may not even be a 100% conscious decision!
Someone should make one of those Obama Hope posters, but with Habib.
So if a warrior makes it to his skill #3, he can’t be stomped and thus can’t give up bloodlust points. As far as I know, no other profession’s downed skills allows this.
Is this fair? Of course, we can always bring out Anet’s infamous “WvW is inherently unbalanced [so that gives us free rein to unbalance even more]” quote. But what do you all think?
Also… remember that bug that prevents you from getting WXP from an Ele once he’s used vapor form? Does that apply to stomp points as well? Anyone tested this?
And wasn’t that vapor form issue conjectured to be part of a more serious “if a foe rallies you don’t get WXP from him if he later dies” bug?
Thanks for adding Northern Shiverpeaks to the list.
NSP has organized. I believe an attempt was made on Saturday that got Teq to 40% (so I was told — got bumped to overflow). Another attempt will be made today.
Anyone else feel superior offensive siege is already somewhat broken — especially at times of low coverage?
i love how SBI gets easiest corner in EB again zzzzzz
at least we got to kill that SBI anet developer again hehe
At what times is this guy on, roughly?
just make it 30 ore but as a once a day thing like everything else in this game.
Here is a preview of a T1 server fighting anyone outside of T1 (JQ,BG,SoR)
http://mos.millenium.org/na/matchups/map/1002
Moar data needed! Besides, I’m sure FA and SoR had a really fun time testing their skills against higher rated servers.
Time to move to EU. While there’s grumbling about potential matchups, the population is by far more evenly spread out than the mess that NA is …. and should make for some interesting matches. Honestly, pick any server but the top two, and you’ll likely have a blast.
Wouldn’t you just be PvD’ing the whole time since you’re (most likely) not on during European prime time?
Have you all notice whether (and if so, how) the level of the item affects the essence drop rate?
I am not sure moving the WvW team off WvW would be the best idea. Pretty sure the fans of WvW think they don’t get enough attention, as it is. Best to leave them there, especially with all the new WvW tournaments and such coming up.
We WvW’ers would be glad to send these devs over to the Dragon team; after all, it’d be for the good of the game! Make it happen Anet!
funny enough they do have anet employe running with sbi in wvw on regular basis
Really??! Can you see Anet dev tags on opposing servers? I’d REALLY like to show him/her my appreciation for the direction Anet is taking WvW — over and over and over again.
Also, since we want this done right, please move the WvW team to this new DXP project. It should be the entire WvW team because these masteries are very difficult to create and balance properly so it needs to be done carefully by a team with experience in managing such content.
I can’t imagine them being difficult to create. I’d wager they’ve actually got a tool for creating the Masteries. As for balancing, you can always use the WvW ones as a template; small gains that make it a little easier, but nothing that would allow 80 people to be able to steamroll the content.
Oh but they are difficult to create. Each mastery takes the WvW dev team quite a while to implement (17 over the past six months). They no doubt put a lot of thought, balancing, and testing time into each one. That’s why the WvW dev team should be moved in its entirety to this new project. They no doubt synergize very well thus breaking them up may hurt the project.
So in WvW, we have all these lines of progression that we can spend our WXP (World Experience Points — gotten from doing WvW) on. Some examples are: “Arrow cart mastery” (better Arrow cart skills), “trebuchet mastery” (better treb skills), “guard killer” (less damage from, more damage to guards).
Maybe this should be implemented in open world PvE as well, it will open new and exciting ways to play during the dragon events!
Let’s start with a new line of experience called DXP (Dragon Experience Points — gotten from doing dragon events). You’d spend these points on masteries, like: “turret mastery” (more skills for turrets), “charrzooka mastery” (for Jormag), “minion killer” (less damage from, more damage to dragon minion adds).
Please implement this Anet.
Also, since we want this done right, please move the WvW team to this new DXP project. It should be the entire WvW team because these masteries are very difficult to create and balance properly so it needs to be done carefully by a team with experience in managing such content.
The idea behind the current system is ok. It was way too stale before, this RNG match-up system gives us some variety. Winner up, loser down has the risk of having the same match-up every other week.
IMO the only problem is that the RNG used for the matchups allows too big a gap between ranks. NSP (#17) has gotten SBI (#10) then CD (#11) then SBI the past three weeks!
Of course with the Leagues are coming up, God help us all — it could really kill some servers and thus WvW as a whole.
(Love the Devon quote, by the way EFWinters — it’s pretty clear he doesn’t even play the game.)
power just scales too well. Some of the dungeons are much more fun solo than with a full group because you can’t focus the bosses down so quickly and so there’s more interesting/challenging gameplay.
As a member of server rank 11. I’m not looking forward to the entire season. A whole X number of week of getting our outmanned kitten kicked.
Sounds like a blast. GG
7 weeks = 7 matchups (as far as we know). Let’s be conservative and say that you will be spawn camped 24/7 whenever you’re in a match-up with servers #1-5. That makes at least 3 match-ups of 24/7 spawn camping.
3/7 is almost half the matches. That is how bad the seasons are going to be for servers near the bottom.
since i do WvW all the time Empyreal Fragments is not an issue but im having a problem getting Dragonite ore and 3-4 per keep lord is pathetic
Yeah… it’s practically impossible to get the dragonite necessary just by WvW. You have to go PvE.
At least you’re no longer on NSP: we’ve gotten SBI then CD then SBI again the last three weeks!
I have wondered what the point of making these things account bound is.
ANet got burned by players acquiring exotics too quickly.
That’s a lie Anet has told us in order to justify Ascended gear. Refer to the infamous quote that stated players should have exotics by the time they reach level 80.
Remember when everyone was complaining, right around the start of the ascended gear release, that they’d probably never have enough time to get the mats necessary to gear their characters?
Because it doesn’t seem that long ago, and man, am I glad this thread popped up now.
The complaints are still valid. Dragonite and Empyreal whatevers are much much harder to come by. The fact that the dust is easy makes no difference because you need all three.
I’m actrualy like the new version more. Except, perhaps, the ears. Now the helmet is looks like.. well… helmet. It’s good. Every man to his own taste, I guess. Only here there is no changes for female charr… And medium armor.
That’s a man’s helmet, not a charr’s!!!
Plus, it makes me want to sing YMCA.
NSP has been REALLY unlucky these last few weeks with SBI then CD then SBI again. If I recall correctly had you had gone for completion three weeks ago, you would have gotten it as we were in a very favorable matchup and was taking towers left and right.
Don’t even bother this week and pray that next week’s matchups will be better.
It doesn’t rotate to a set schedule. Your color depends on the RNG of the matchmaking system.
Yeah there is a striking difference between the awesome art design guys and the those responsible for class balance, wvw and gear progression. It’s like day and night.
Definitely. The art guys are top notch and have been since GW1. The rest of these people I’d like to see move on to other games.
Edit: Except maybe the guy who thought up the jumping mechanic from the molten facility end bosses. That was great thinking outside of the box.
(edited by Lord Kuru.3685)
I’m giving out internet high-fives for each ex-GoM player that gets killed in this matchup.
When did RH transfer to NSP or SBI ???
And cool, ill find someone from RISE, try repeatedly to kill someone and when I do you owe me a high five and you owe that person from RISE about 9 maybe 10 high fives
RH is still on GoM. I’m just keeping an eye on this matchup for some amusement because all three servers have ex-GoMs on it and I want to see who’s the best of those who left.
NOW DANCE, PUPPETS!
Who from GoM is on NSP now?
-Level restriction
No, please
- Class restriction
No, please
- Gear rarity and stat type restriction
No, please
- Let party creator see players gear and build (like in SPvP)
No, please
A giant NOPE.
Why wouldn’t you want the tool to help people find people they prefer to play with?
As it is, they’d probably just kick you if you’re not what they’re looking for leading to more bruised egos.
I thought Scarlet would be getting exposure once every 6 months, not every second month. Does anyone actually like her?
Her mommy and daddy like her. That’s two people. And the ANet staff, that’s 300, for a total of 302 people.
Being sylvari, I don’t think she has a mommy and daddy. So make that 300. Though I’ll bet there are more than a few at Anet who don’t like her but are afraid to speak up.
And people transferring to the top for the League rewards is only a part of the problem. The other part is where people on servers who get beat up over and over (which will happen more with leagues) simply quitting.
Tequatl is difficult in the organizational skills required to beat it.
Tequatl is not difficult in the individual skill required to beat it.
FYI – The sum of the individuals and their skill determine the outcome. On BG last nite, we had a full map, 6 Commanders, and 90+ people on TS. Laid out our strategy, and yet this group only got Teq down to 50%.
So yes, individual skill is as important as teamwork.
Most of the jobs at Tequatl are for skill spamming. Yes, there are turret men and a few turret protectors, but almost everyone’s job is to spam DPS at Teq while standing at a single spot. That does not require individual skill.
