The fact that one couldn’t place siege inside there own Citadel made very little sense to me. It doesn’t even affect balance because all 3 worlds have it equally. For immersion purposes, this should be allowed without any limits.
I say this even with knowing there’s a high probability the treb shown was pointed at my server
What if no player who is in their own home borderland could be killed. That wouldn’t affect balance because all 3 worlds have it equally. Would you find that acceptable?
It has been like this since they modified the priority system for changing targets. Nothing has been done about it.
- 2500 trick-or-treat bags (10 stacks): wiki says that the maximum possible number of candy corns you can get from each bag is 6. So you have at most 15000 candy corn from these bags; in other words 15 cobs.
- If you actually get an average of 5 from each bag, that’s 12500 corn = 12.5 cobs.
- If you get an average of 4 from each, that’s 10000 = 10 cobs.
- If you average 3 from each, that’s 7500 = 7.5 cobs.
- 50 large candy bags: wiki says the maximum possible number of candy corns you can get from each bag is 8. So this gives you at most 400 candy corn; in other words, less than one cob.
- you already have 3 cobs.
So in total, you have no more than 18 cobs + 400 candy corn but RNG means you almost certainly have far less:
- If you average 5 candy corn from the trick-or-treat bags, you have 16 cobs + 900 candy corn;
- if you average 4 candy corn, you have 13 + 400 cobs.
- if you average 3, you have 10 + 900 cobs.
TLDR: Considering you need 20 cobs, it looks extremely likely that you need to do a lot of farming before the clocktower expires.
When players on the same “team” have conflicting goals, that’s a game design fail.
This is compounded here by WXP being character bound and lopsided matches that are effectively over by the end of the weekend (if not before that).
Ok so first, want to say I absolutely love the crafting system, by far the best I’ve ever encountered and I’m absolutely addicted to it.
What is it that you love about the crafting system?
I’m very curious because I find it to be the absolute worst part of the game:
To me, there’s zero gameplay involved — only tedious clicking through an absolutely horrible interface.
Also it has its own internal cooldown apart from all other sigils, so you can safely use it with any proc or swap sigil without risking override.
This has got to be a bug — is there any other sigil that has this same cooldown behavior?
I agree with the OP. It would be cool if the cut scene’s were not able to be skipped. The developers put in a lot of time for those to be created and it is a shame people just want to skip them all the time.
The best way to encourage even fewer people want do the story dungeon is to make cutscenes unskippable. Look how the new TA has turned out.
So:
- This mark only transfers only to one enemy in the mark (source: wiki).
- It does not have any effect on allies in the mark.
It’s barely even a mark now!
Be happy that you helped hold your keep for 6 hours — it’s a much healthier attitude.
Just read this post and it is somewhat reassuring. Thanks Bobby.

“We’re exploring some ideas for the future…” … it’s actually the usual nebulous answer that tells us only that they are nowhere near doing what he claims he wants to do.
Server populations/coverage do not have to be made equal amongst all servers. As long as each server has 4 other servers with roughly similar population/coverage, we have enough interesting matchups.
We can then go back to the randomized matchups — but with far less volitility in the RNG.
When the storytelling and characters are as poorly written as it has been, it doesn’t really matter whether the LS is more procedural or serialized. They really need to sit back and flesh out stories/characters for themselves before introducing them to us.
Anet ruined the hope of badges ever becoming a decent currency when they gave them away in the achievement chests.
Short Answer: To avoid causing an uproar.
Long Answer: One of two answers are correct. You decide which.
1- Think about how much whining and crying is going on right now about the balance changes and how they aren’t well done at all. Each skill change is taken apart and analyzed by the players, and that’s where the crying is coming from. If Anet told the players about every single skill that was changed, there would probably be riots and chaos. I don’t like it either, but if I were Anet, I wouldn’t tell the players about minor changes either.
2- Nobody has any idea what they’re doing with balancing classes, so they have to fix the many mistakes they make by going back and stealth-fixing it instead of making an “official” change.
In a game that’s intended to be competitive (sPvP esports) doing (1.) is a horrendously bad idea. Plus, players always discover stealth changes anyway — so the only thing you get out of them is player mistrust and conspiracy theories.
(2.) is more likely what’s going on most of the time.
There hasn’t been any real change at all. Individual LS chapters no longer have their own RNG boxes (e.g. Dragon Bash’s coffers) — but only because that role has been given to Black Lion Chests.
In fact, it’s worse than before. Previously, you had a chance at the LS gear through play (coffers dropped in the open world during Dragon Bash) while now, you must buy keys.
This note was inadvertently left out of the original notes
Adjusted coin and bloodstone dust drop chances in champion bags.can you just reverse this type of change and inform player BEFORE this type of changes?
Because many of us just keep the champion bags for new materials.
That sounds like a living by the sword and dying by the sword type of situation.
As for stealth nerfs — not a fan of that.
How is it then we have had a queue to get into our bl. Then when we get in we have the outmanned buff.
Could it be that your zerg is there causing the queue — it leaves all at once, leaving the BL empty… that’s why you got in and when you did, you were outmanned.
siege power creep is already at a ridiculous level.
For those who say to work overtime and buy gems: A large percentage of people actively dislike their jobs but consider farming (e.g. champ training) neutral or even mildly positive (you get to zone out and be free of worries for a bit).
Your proposal involves much more work (and thus, money) than Anet is willing to put into WvW.
The fact that the “report” UI doesn’t include any useful options (in terms of exploiting) shows that they actually don’t really care enough about people exploiting to do anything about it.
I am slowly becoming bored with Guild Wars 2. I played Guild Wars 1 for 5 years and love all the content that made the world. Now I have found out that there may not be any paid addons, or expansions. I enjoyed GW1 and had no problem running out and buying Factions, Nightfall. and Eye of the North. I bought GW2 and have been impatiently waiting to return to Cantha and Elona.
So, does this mean that mean those regions are lost to us??? I sure hope not. But I also don’t want a slow role out of the entire map. I want to push through at my own speed. If I decide to push through, I don’t want to hit a road block, and wait.
As a player of the GW legacy for six years. I am hoping NC soft doesn’t ruin it for me. It is the one and only game I play. Sad isn’kitten I want my ritualist, assassins, dervish and paragons back. I want to travel to the lands we once knew. I don’t care if I have to pay. I didn’t mind then, and I won’t mind now.
NCsoft has owned Anet since 2002.
Craft on an alt because it levels the alt up — something your main doesn’t need. That way the “gameplay” that is crafting can be put to some use.
I’m trying to figure out what I’m missing here. The inscriptions sell on the BLTP for ~7g. However, weapons that actually have these in them are only selling for ~2g. Why would a component sell for significantly more than the final product?
Because the inscriptions can be used to level crafting while the weapons do not necessarily have suitable stats.
Plot twist: What if Anet nerfed champ boxes so that wvwvw players get even less gold so that they are forced to pve to get ascended gear =O
WvW players are already forced to PvE to get ascended gear. Dragonite ore does not drop in WvW enough to allow for WvW players to stay in WvW.
Actually Heta have lot of reason on his post… There are maybe ¿4-5 threads? talking about the same. This post isn’t constructive there’s one exposing the bug and lot of people just saying “100% agree”, and the best way to react is with bug reports.
Also, as i said today to lot of baruch people, i’m sure that Anet know this issue, and if we don’t have already the patch, is because they are looking the way on how to fix it, no because they don’t want to fix it. We don’t know where is the fail and maybe it’s not easy to fix.
So.. be patient… Of course i also hate this bug, but we can’t do anything more than wait or quit WvW (or even the game)… I preffer to wait.
No. We’ve seen that being patient with Anet does not work. Threads like these are unfortunately necessary if we want action.
We have sports in real life that poach players all the time, its accepted practice, to the highest bidder goes the spoils.
But in sports (at least in US sports leagues) this is generally regulated by salary caps — preventing teams from dominating just by having deeper pockets.
Because of huge WvW population/coverage disparities, there are very few possible matchups for each server that are population-fair. So of course the Leagues was a terrible idea.
How was this bug discovered?
As for the leagues, they’re a farce anyway.
Yeah… this is intentional, not a glitch — welcome to the life of a WvW player.
By the way, it would have been really nice of Anet to put a warning about forging/salvaging.
After this year’s epic fail of a Halloween, I don’t even want new content for Wintersday. If they keep it exactly the same as last year, I’d be satisfied.
She hasn’t forgotten.
nah let her forget, make the abaddon fractal instead
Even worse would be Scarlet being responsible for Abbadon’s fall!!!
I think it’s more fair to say that everything in the game is designed and attempted to be balanced based on small-scale fights… 5v5 max.
This. It has been claimed in the past that they do not care about balancing WvW at all (see the video that shall not be named, for example) and this shows that those claims are true.
Not really. It motivates you to get out there and fight. If they gave everyone the same reward, people would do the bare minimum possible. It’s human nature, particularly on mmos. … And the far reaching implications would be dismal turnout for season two.
This sounds good in theory, but in reality the winners are determined solely by coverage.
However watch the winners get something significant and you’ll see a stampede for season two … Potentially evening out server population disparities as guild move to take a lower tier server to the winners circle.
If rewards are significant, we’d see another kind of disaster:
One big guild would transfer to a server in Bronze league giving that server an advantage. Other guilds would then bandwagon into the same server. Pretty soon, you’d have one server that would faceroll all competition in Bronze league making the League more of a farce than it already is.
Same would happen in Silver League.
TLDR: Remember when Kaineng rose up from T8 because WM transferred there? Same thing.
Lol so in one part you complain about a coverage war issue, then the next you say bronze league will be invaded.
You see the problem here? I’m not without sensitivity to fears and what you cited, but this was at least an effort to get people to spread out more. And more players on the map makes for some exciting matches.
People need to stop thinking of league play as one massive unit and instead realize it was separated into three for a reason, mostly the division of coverage to make it an obtainable goal, no matter what your server rank. And mostly so the big rewards weren’t solely given to the top three, which would further stack those servers.
all I said was that giving awesome rewards for winning a league is REALLY dangerous (and stupid because coverage determines the winner).
The only way I see population evening out is:
(1) If players realize that with Leagues, stacking into just a few servers decreases the fun because you meet every other server anyway and all you’re doing by stacking is getting more faceroll matches (whereas before, T1 would pretty much always fight with at least one other T1 server).
(2) Queues get so bad that players move.
And by “evening out” I don’t even mean that every server has to have the same coverage — as long as servers that are within a few ranks have comparable coverage, that’s probably sufficient.
Generally, low FPS can be blamed on your machine (you can lower your graphical settings to alleviate this) while skill lag is Anet’s fault.
If Scarlet is to be the cause of the explosion/meltdown, I’d prefer if this new fractal were not created. I’d prefer the dredge fractal appear twice, in fact.
Every single time we have a forced solo instance a bunch of people complain that they would like the OPTION of playing with friends. And every time the next Living Story has a forced solo instance.
Not really. It motivates you to get out there and fight. If they gave everyone the same reward, people would do the bare minimum possible. It’s human nature, particularly on mmos. … And the far reaching implications would be dismal turnout for season two.

Why should you get better rewards in Bronze than other servers who put in a more consistent effort over many months to end up in a higher rank?
I didn’t know that being on a server with better coverage took effort. Or maybe you mean all that effort farming the gold needed to transfer up tiers?
In PvE, whenever the devs put players in a situation where they have conflicting goals, it’s their design mistake.
Judging by how Anet usually rewards WvW play, you’ll be getting one blue/green instead of two.
Anyway, if you’re playing WvW for the rewards you’re doing it wrong. I’d suggest a champ train but I hear they’ve been nerfed.
On the other hand, the incentive to kill a champion outside of a train has dropped precipitously.
This is an interesting side effect.
The gold to gem conversion will continue to cost more gold as more gold gets put into the economy. They’ve increased rewards significantly over the last year but haven’t changed the gold sinks.
Don’t forget crafting to 500, ascended weapons, and the karma nerf. But you are right, people (mostly hardcore people) grind for gold too fast compared to the current sinks.
The crafting to 500 was merely exchanging gold between players but you’re right about a small sink for ascended weapons (the bloodstone bricks reagent). Even still, that’s more of a one time cost and not an ongoing sink compared to the ongoing stream of gold into the system.
Karma never generated gold from the game, only from trading with other players.
Every time you exchange gold with another player 15% leaves the economy. It all adds up.
Scarlet hid the towers. Haven’t you heard? After being tricked by mesmer magic two months ago at the Queen’s Speech, she started learning the mesmer profession and how has her PhD in mesmer studies.
There is another thread on this, but I’ll summarize it. Most people think it is a really bad idea. ANET is the exception and the only vote that counts though.
Anet the only vote that counts? We are the consumers. Our voice is the most important.
This is true, but Anet, by their actions, obviously doesn’t see it this way.
If you want to skip, make/join an lfg that states you want to skip. If you don’t want to skip, make/join an lfg that states you don’t want to skip. It’s as easy as that.
You’ll always be able to find groups that go either way, so what’s the problem? Having a choice is better than having no choice.
Personal story is really holding back a lot of the potential for zone development.
Anet should just announce that in X months, the personal story will be eliminated and all these zones can be freed from being frozen in time. The personal story isn’t very good anyway as it’s hardly “personal” at all.
This is what happens when the matchup is determined by the end of the weekend (or even before that) — which is what happens when servers with big coverage/population disparity are matched up — which is what happens when Leagues are implemented before population issues are resolved.
It doesn’t help that karma training is also a great way of earning WXP, which everyone needs to keep up with the Joneses.
if you delete all your characters, you can transfer servers for free.
So you can create new character on whatever server, try out the WvW for a bit, then delete the character. Repeat on whatever server you’re interested in.
This is a bit of a pain, but it’s the only way to see for yourself and may be worth it if you’re really interested in WvW.
Just goes to show how little thought went into this whole Leagues idea.
