So let me get this straight, ESO, a game based on an ip known for single player dungeon crawling is a better RvR game because you cant get past your servers Q? did you know that theres a new map for people in Q?
I forgot what kind of psychological defense mechanism your argument here is using, the one where you nitpick and aspect of one game, put it in an opinionated negative light and somehow is someway in your mind it gives creditbility to another thing.
I wonder how you feel about the different sport teams youve admired and how they would react to you posting something like this in their forums
The problem is that we haven’t gotten anything in WvW since launch while the PvE’ers have gotten constant updates of things they want! What have we got to show for 14 months of hard work: a rank that provides a title we can’t show our friends, a league that just keeps us out of the game we want to be playing, constant streams of PvE’ers who don’t care what’s happening to the score, and constant struggle trying to keep up with the dev’s obvious inability to prevent market inflation. So yea looking forward to a new game isn’t shocking in the slightest, when it has a chance to be a better place to rest. I’ve never seen a game like Gw2 where the PvE’ers get the benefit of WvW while whole-heartedly disrespecting it.
P.S. That Q map should’ve been added before the League.
WvW has gotten lots of things as well — too bad they were pretty much all bad.
“The LFG should have a gear score / AR score listed for each and every dungeon, if your gear / AR is below that threshold you cannot apply to enter that dungeon, and NO not just the dungeon instance owner but every member of the team needs to meet the required gear score / AR, some will disagree but this would protect both groups the casuals and the efficiency driven dungeon / Fractal runners by ensuring that every party members meets the minimum requirements to actually complete the content and not just drag your team down to oblivion or force people to carry you through the whole thing”
I’m down with that if you’d be agreeable to a minimum armor rating on players doing world events to ensure the rest of us that didn’t go full zerker gear don’t have to waste our time rezzing the ones that did. I get tired of watching a dozen people get downed around me in the Labyrinth when I have a 60/40 split attack power to armor. These players don’t have the necessary gear to do the events and are dragging the rest of us down. Top spin lob that gear check back into your end of the court.
But if everyone had zerker gear the bosses would die so fast they wouldn’t have time to down anyone. So perhaps you are the one dragging the group down by not having enough DPS.
Finishing is a BS PVP thing not a PVE thing it only slows the game down.
If i want to PVP ill do it for the love of god stop trying to get players to start doing PVP.
The only PVP i do is a cheap way the get to LA.
I doubt it’s to get players to PvP. Seems more like a way to sell more finishers. The stomping mechanic is interesting — I think used correctly, it can make some fights more fun.
The actual gameplay content for each patch is very small. If you just want to play through the new stuff (as opposed to getting all achievements), you can probably manage it even if you’re busy.
Ori and Ancient were noticeable, but silk and leather rain from the skies :P The higher tiers are a different story, but I never upgrade mats as it is. Not being able to farm them in the sense that you can’t mine them makes them a bit different. I still don’t think one extra of each for the refinements will affect me.
Don’t forget that you need 6 pieces of armor for a full set — so the grind is inherently worse.
Plus, “one extra of each” for the refinements sounds like only a bit, but it means you’re actually getting 33% less bang for your buck (6 scraps got you 3 bolts before but only 2 now).
Does the achievement panel have a built-in hyperlink to Dulfy’s site? I’m just wondering because its used as a development crutch and replacement for any sort of in-game scavenger hunt type aspect or system of clues.
I remember people asking for clues to make finding the refugees’ lost items in Flame and Frost more fun. I guess that’s not ever going to happen.
EVERY SINGLE TIME we’ve had achievements like this (Scarlet invasions, Queen’s hot air ballons, etc.) we’ve complained about not being able to track the achievements — and here we are again!
You just have to bring out a pen and paper to track yourself and also make sure to check every time you’ve done the job that you actually have been credited for it.
centaurs, sons of svanir, inquest, grawl, hylek, skritt, bandits. We’ve still got a lot of combinations left.
And what about different combos of foes we’ve already seen (e.g. Flame Legion + nightmare court). With just the list above, we’d have 21 different combos.
So prepare for Scarlet to be here for a long while.
Like half a year ago, if I remember it correctly I have been very rude on several forum threads.
I would like to give a sincere apology to Arenanet and all the forum readers.
Sometimes when you are in the wrong you need to have the guts to admit it.Arenanet is not only telling but proving that they listen to the community, that they have the means to do all they can to make this game as enjoyable as possible.
Thank you for that !
You can put the blame on me.
I’m curious. What did you complain about, and what did Anet do that proved they listen to the community?
Possibly, it is however more likely reducing the sheer number of silk scraps that exist out there. If gossamer was changing, then it would probably be more directly affecting the ascended grind though
Yes, it’s to reduce the number of silk scraps — but WHY do that? The answer is to make Ascended Armor more grindy.
If Ascended Armor uses the same formulas as Ascended weapons, you’ll be needing a ton of the T5 materials like silk (like we need mithril and elder wood for weapons).
So a bolt of silk now requires 3 silk scraps instead of 2 and cured thick leather squares now require 3 thick leather sections instead of 2.
I guess this is a way to make the Ascended armor epic grind more epic?
Bad for new players/alts and bad for the game — especially considering how OP a few of these are (ram mastery, guard leech, applied fortitude)
Never thought otherwise with this skill. Might as well have been an environmental item.
This. Except then Anet wouldn’t be able to brag about the introduction of new skills. Anyway, you can’t expect much after the Canach Lair “new dungeon” debacle.
But what Max Payne also did was that it told a really well written story
This. Anet doesn’t seem to be able to write good stories and good characters.
She’s a necromancer so she knows about poisons. But her profession is that of detective, not poison PhD — you would think there’d be someone more qualified than her.
We’ll see in future episodes, but I would not be surprised at all if she is revealed to have even more expertises.
So from the last few Living Stories, it seems the trend is for all event weapon skins to be BLC-exclusive. Thoughts?
I personally enjoyed solo-farming the Dragon Bash nodes for zhaitaffy and the chance for Jade Weapon Tickets (it was fun finding a nice rotation). Oh well.
do any of you remember the threads about 5 months back complaining when we had NO scraps?
scraps were introduced and people were sated for the most part.
now the same round of complaining when we do have scraps.
i don’t know people anymore.
Let’s say someone is beating you in the head with a iron pipe and you complain. They proceed to beat you in the head with a wooden bat instead. Would you not complain, or just be happy they’re no longer using an iron pipe?
As a necro, do you hop into spectral walk, go behind the downed player and begin the stomp then you teleport back in front of them right as you come down to finish them? (i’ve tried this a few times, and I think it works on downed guardians so u can avoid their knock-back)
Anyone else use this? How does it work? It doesn’t seem like it should avoid the guardian knockback.
So Marjory is now an expert in poisons. You think Anet’s slowling going to make her into a Mary Sue to counter Scarlet’s Villain Sue?
Anet should really commit to the living story by sacrificing the personal story — allow Orr to evolve as if the Zhaitan has been killed.
The personal story isn’t very good anyway (neither are the living stories, but at least these have potential to improve while the personal storyn— as it is — is static and forces much of the world to be static as well.)
1. spam AOE loot.
2. WP as soon as you die if you think your side will lose so that any subsequent loot drops can be picked up.
I won’t buy it, period. I won’t purchase another game by this company after the bait and switch that GW2 was.
This.
they should just skip xmas. Not that I would like to see that, but at least they can’t embarrass themselves again and won’t leave a lot of people disappointed.
This is probably the best idea.
It’s actually perfect: Everyone will be able to get this year’s Halloween items just in time for next year’s Halloween!
Just make sure you actually buy the items before Halloween next year since it’s likely they’ll update the requirements to need even more candy corn.
Holidays should be fun. If you make holiday content exactly like the rest of the grindy LS content, then that takes away from their uniqueness.
This explains why they do the once-per-day gameplay mechanics:
pve builds more on balance and defense
I don’t think you’re doing it right.
It’d just tell you the same information that the scores tell you: who has bigger population and better coverage.
many of the DE chains have nice little stories — much better than the garbage that the LS has been churning out. What happened to those writers?
1 hour after reset people are still doing the temple zerg — it usually goes until around 2 hours after server reset.
Yes. It’s simply not being played as an open world boss. The way it’s being done — by going into an overflow — is the same as instancing. Anet should just formalize this to make players’ lives easier.
It’s simple: hire some good writers. The current LS stories are as fleshed out and as complex as a second grader’s barely passing writing assignment.
It doesn’t help that the writing team seems to be making it up week by week instead of having an overarching plot outline to adhere to.
The funny thing is that there are some good stories in GW2. Some of the event chains have nice little self-contained stories. What happened to those writers?
It actually is not supported by experience. Thy did the same with jorbreakers and zhaitaffy – and it was in the event that introduced zhaitaffy into the game. The explanations they gave then suggested, that the prices were calculated using as a baseline people who would farm gold and buy taffy off market. Everything so far points to them not learning still why it was a bad idea.
Exactly, you can’t design your game around the people who do the most grinding.
Especially when the selling point about your game is that the design philosophy is not having to spend all your time grinding.
This is clearly a complete betrayal of that philosophy and of all the players who purchased the game believing that philosophy really was the guiding principle behind the game design.
They’re not designing the game around those who do the most grinding. They know that it’s impossible to grind out the numbers of candy corn without resorting to the TP. They intend for you to use the TP to buy the candy corn.
So in order to obtain the Halloween items, you have to skip the Halloween events and grind like mad for gold — Frostgorge Champ train, for example. Pretty ironic.
As for the philosophy behind the game — the devs have long given up on it (not sure if they themselves ever believed it at all, or if it was just a marketing ploy) and it’s time we do as well.
The grind genre.
This.
Someone in full ascended with guard leech and applied fortitude will have a very large stats advantage over you if you meet him one on one. That’s the direction this game is going.
It was fine before all the grindy vertical progression was introduced. What about we go back to that?
For me, once I realized it was impossible to obtain the halloween items through doing the holiday content, I completely lost interest in the whole event.
Rewards will probably be the finisher and a couple greens.
If they’re too good, it’ll cause guilds to stack to the projected winners causing huge problems (especially in lower tiers — imagine guilds stacking only into projected bronze league winner — that season would be miserable for other bronze leaguers)
They won’t do this because they want you to take as long as possible to craft the ascended gear. Gear progression is their illusion of content that’s supposed to keep you in the game.
So we have a griefer on our server destroying our golems.
Anet: PLEASE give us an in game option to report griefing in WvW. Even if you’re going to throw those reports in the trash, please give us the option so at least we feel like you care.
the personal story and living story directly conflict. The personal story forces several entire zones and many parts of zones to be frozen in time, while the living story demands that zones change.
If (a very big “if”) Anet can start doing compelling living stories with non-saturday morning cartoon villains, I’d say kill the personsal story.
two days ago I completed my daily and not get any reward, no laureals, no nothing. It said is completed 5/5, I did another two aditional things for daily, reset the computer after a while and nothing. with the lag from www not even surprised this is happend.
I believe this happened because of the broken daily (one daily was repeated twice) that was patched that day. I know someone who didn’t get their rewards after the patch also.
Considering how much Ascended gear costs (in super valuable laurels) it’s understandable that people would want to know whether Carrion gear is coming or not.
If it is, people know to wait. If it’s not, then people know to use their laurels to get another type of gear. Imagine how upset people would be if they gave up waiting, got another set of (sub-optimal) gear and then Carrion gear came out shortly thereafter — ESPECIALLY since Ascended gear costs so much (of a time-gated resource).
Anet did learn from the Dragon Bash/zhaitaffy experience: They learned that having the dragon wings as a possible drop allowed people to avoid the zhaitaffy → jorbreakers → wings grind.
So for Halloween: no good stuff drops. All must be grinded for!
Do you really think Anet would do a LS story without Scarlet while her story is still left hanging? The ONLY way this upcoming story has no Scarlet is if she’s not yet revealed to be the one pulling the kraits’ strings.
Anet is really stubborn. We’re likely stuck with Scarlet for a while.
Anet needs to decide whether Tequatl should be an open world boss or an instanced boss.
A world boss should be doable with minimal pre-organization — I believe the original intent was that you hear a boss is being fought, and you simply join in to help out.
If a large amount of organization is required, or if the event can be ruined by one person doing the wrong thing, then that should be an instanced event.
At the moment, Tequatl is being treated by the playerbase as an instanced event (Tequatl guilds finding overflows).
Anet should either flow with the players and make it formally an instanced event or modify the fight so that it fits more with the idea of world bosses.
Most servers gave up doing Tequatl because players immediately started guesting to Blackgate when they heard BG kill Tequatl. This left these servers without enough natives to even attempt Tequatl leaving us in the situation we’re in now: if you want to do Tequatl, you join a Tequatl-killing-guild and guest to some overflow somewhere — and Tequatl sits alone for 15 minutes on most servers.
Temple zergs are similar — many people simply guest to one of the servers that run regular temple zergs instead of trying to set one up on their own server.
Would it not be better if every server had a scheduled Tequatl kill time/day? And every server had a temple zerg?
Has this diminished “server spirit”? Does server spirit even matter? Does Anet want to get rid of server spirit so that when they inevitably merge server there would be less outcry?
Thoughts?
It’s one of the traditional ways of holding a sword:
http://www.thearma.org/essays/StancesIntro.htm (bottom of page)
If you’ve watched any samurai movie, you’ve seen it there as well.
You’re supposed to kill the enemies not just rush by and hope you don’t get killed…
Don’t know why you would assume this. If you go by the stories of each dungeon, the goal is to beat the last boss. If you go by the mechanics, you need to kill only those foes that open up the next part of the dungeon.
There is no dungeon where the stated goal is to wipe the dungeon of all foes. If the devs wanted to, they could easily have forced you to wipe all foes (by not giving you the final reward until you do) — but they didn’t do that, because you’re given the choice to skip if you wish. Isn’t it better to have a choice?
From your OP, it seems your problem is actually that the people you play with didn’t bother to explain the mechanics/techniques of those dungeons before charging ahead.
