Just to give my 2 cents
TCG did what they were supposed to do. If we are playing football/basketball/baseball and your best player gets injured and go on. No one stops to say hey its not fair.
No one said last year in the NBA finals, hey cavs its ok we will wait for kevin love and Irving to get healthy so we can play. TCG did what they needed to do and i prefer the decision they made.
On one of the posts, you said have 1 player in spectate mode. I disagree since thats another pair of eyes to watch and chat on rotations, cant have that. Obviously they took a break to find a sub which they did not have. Once again that comes down to a roster issue which many of these video game ESPORTS have issues with.
Any expecting helseth or those followers of his to have to sportsmanship to afk during a game are deluded and cant of interacted with them much in game. The french guys in his team have made repeated racist comments in gw2 pvp chat (one of them in particular) before with no punishment in games I have been in. Helseth himself basically has the role of gw2 bully and is lauded by anet who apparently support his type of behavior which involves demeaning and abusing anyone he interacts with on gw2.
So yeh. Anyone thinking these people would play fair are hilarious. Not going to happen

With what happened in the vermillion vs. TCG match last night, I felt that I absolutely had to post in a thread like this because I am just unable to get over how much of a bad decision it was to just let that match carry on with the constant disconnects that vm had. If the result of that match stands then season 2 of the pro league is absolutely ruined for me, because that was the absolute most important series of the EU pro league when It comes to finals qualification and it was decided by a dc. Absolutely terrible. I really hope that the match is replayed at a later date. if they won’t let it happen with a different meta, then there is still next week to play it, have 6 games that week, I really don’t care. It will be a huge mistake for that match not to be replayed. If TCG win it as a 5v5 that is fine, but just don’t let a dc decide the most important game of the entire EU pro league.
Sorry if that sounded like me raging, but I needed to post something like that just to get rid of all the frustration I feel about that match. As for the OP, I think that having a 6th player in the match as a spectator would really help because it would limit the impact of a disconnect and allow matches to be fair which can only be a positive thing. If that is not allowed then I think that there should just be a reset of the game no matter when in the game it happens (maybe unless one team has more than a 200 point lead or something) and then if another dc happens then I think that the remainder of the series should be played on another week (keep it at 1-0 or 1-1 if those games were fine). It just stops me from enjoying the pro league if games are decided by disconnects so I hope the rules are changed.

Although it is out of Anet’s hands at this point – it’s completely up to ESLESL doesn’t give a kitten about who wins or loses, and what is fair etc. Why would they?
It’s either that or the ESL team handling the “Pro” League are dribbling slugs that have no idea. It literally takes 2 minutes after what happened to make a decision, it barely requires any looking into.

The thing is, that shouldn’t make any difference. My point was that the game was decided on a 4v5, which is true. In a game as important as TCG against vermillion, the match should not be decided by a 4v5 no matter what caused that 4v5. Because of this, there really does need to be a rematch and the pro league will be pretty much ruined if there isn’t because I don’t think anyone would say that TCG much of a chance at coming back into either of those 2 games. Of course, they could have but that is extremely unlikely.

His TS was lagging. The reason gw2 dced and the ts didn’t was that TS doesn’t require as much internet as gw2 does. So gw2 dced but the ts, while lagging, stayed online.

They will buff stuff come on OP. You must be new around here. The whole game is balanced around PvE. The new traits system was for PvE. If they nerf stuff people will get mad and quit playing and then buy less keys from the gem store.
Together we grew the active player-base for PvP by 135% last year – and that’s pretty awesome.

Yup. In Wildstar there were 2 dungeons. The boring ones and the fun ones. The boring ones had better rewards. So they got exclusively played at the expense of the fun ones.
I think, the problem is more that the perception of the game’s quality declined. The problem is admitted by the Korean headquarters so I will consider it as a fact.
The aim to attract new players by the tournament is a good idea. However, as long as the base product is perceived badly, it will not work. It has even adverse effects (as the OP pointed out). There is obviously money available. Nevertheless, the money gets rather spent on some “pros” than on the core product. In other words, the customer will ask himself why he should continue spending money for the product when his money will not be used to improve the product but rather for some “pros”. I understand the reasoning (I dont want to say whether I follow it).
More dangerous is the problem of attracting new players. It may sound fun but I consider it as a problem right now. The game is perceived as “bad”. A new player coming would quite likely perceive it as bad as well and not buy HoT. What happens if the overall perceiption of the game’s quality increased? The activation costs to bring this player back to the game will have increased (once a bad experience, why better now?). In other words, attracting new players through e.g. a “pro”-league has currently rather negative monetary and brand value effects.
I entirely understand the concept behind the “pro”-league and I fully understand that it must be hard for a person highly involved and engaged to accept it. However, I cannot change the truth!
Let me make a simple analogy: Imagine you would be employed for Addidas. Addidas produces the ball for the football (in the US and Ireland soccer) world cup. They also sell the ball through their normal distribution channels. Now let us say Addidas developped a “crappy” ball which will fall apart after 3h playing with it. A “pro” player will not recognise it. A game lasts 90 min. A “casual” player will recognise it because he will not buy a new ball everytime he wants to play. What will happen then? The “casual” player will go to Nike or Puma and buy a ball there. If he is satisfied, he will of course stay with the brand (brand loyalty). What does it mean for Addidas? Sponsoring the world cup has even negative effects! It would have been better if the “casual” players did not buy an Addidas-ball in the first place.
And please dont thank me that you got the analysis for free (normally I get money for it (ofc it will look nicer and will be better explained etc.)). Just make sure that I have to shake my head over the management decisions of AreanNet less often and I will be happy.
GW2 often comes up on other gaming sites and forums. The most considered opinion is:
’ Yeh that game used to be good but they didnt update it’. Or ’ It was a promising game but they ruined it’.
The problem is 3 years of directionless development have hurt the games reputation to the point it cannot ever be recovered. Think about it. They released with a vision for pvp. The trait system was considered to make the game one of give and take. Now the traits mean you can just take everything you want.
But a bigger problem is directionless pvp direction. No new competitive maps for over 3 years. Those maps released have been dropped completely instead on improving them. They added leaderboards. They got rid of leaderboards. They added solo queue. They got rid of solo queue. They used to let you queue in heart of the mists. They got rid of this. They used to have in game tournaments. They got rid of these.
Think about it. The list of features removed by anet is insane. Its like they change their pvp direction every year and just remove all the work they have done previously. I honestly think the game is worse now than it was a year after release in terms of the pvp infrastructure. Its suicidal development to not have a direction for their product. The result is a game with a ruined reputation. The problem could be many things. Almost certainly nobodies fault at anet. Could be high staff turnover (which will cause erratic development at times as new people will have different ideas). Could be directions from up top.
But its just amazing they have added and then removed so many features. It makes no sense. Find me another game who REMOVE their solo queue? Find me another game who REMOVE their leaderboards? After they were put into the game for a year. Its strange, and ye the game can never recover. Outside of the gw2 bubble its reputation is ruined.

RE: DotaCoach -> that’s a pretty slick website – thanks for sending it over. I’ve seen some initiatives like this run on our forums in the past. I’ll mull it over and see if there’s something a bit more structured we could do.
RE: Balance -> Contrary to popular belief, the PvP team (or wvw, fractals, raids, etc) doesn’t actually handle profession balance. There’s an entirely separate team dedicated to handling balance for all core areas of the game (appropriately named the Balance team). The PvP team (and the other aforementioned teams and more) gives regular feedback on balance issues, but the balance team is ultimately in charge of maintaining the design vision across the game.
For reference, the PvP team is focused on infrastructure -> PvP Leagues and maps, for example.

The pvp team have released no new “competitive” maps since October 2012 btw. Worth remembering the facts
Nobody watches the gw2 “esports” and nobody ever will. Not really anets fault or “the metas” fault at all. It is due to:
1, Its an mmorpg which is not an esprots genre. It has no viewer base and people who play MMOs do NOT at all play for competition. They play for the community and the team work basically. It just doesn’t fit with esports. Even WoW which was the biggest game ever never took off. Despite the biggest game company being behind it.
2, There is no spectator value in mmorpgs. Kind of linked to above. But watch a moba and the overhead style and clean graphics means you can see everything. You can see the stutterstepping to reposition. You can see the body blocking. You can see the elites. You can see how they are moving around the map to flank. You can’t see anything on GW2. It just a load of spam.
3, Gw2 esports is not a success. The viewing figures are very bad even with giving away a ton of rewards to viewers. The same can be said about pvp. They expanded the pvp population? Well done, thats what happens when you add rewards to a game mode in a genre where the players are just there to farm rewards. You could put rewards in a game mode which involves players pressing the same button 100 times over 10 minutes and it would get played. Improve the rewards and it would get played more. This is an MMOrpg after all. A game based on doing stuff to get stuff. Where the stuff you get is the driving force and the doing stuff is the chore to get that fix.
Lastly, the gw2 esports scene is not a proper esports scene based on player skill. The lack of mechanical skill and just rotation skill is pretty poor in my opinion. They get away with it because; 1, Nobody plays mmos seriously as esports. 2, Nobody plays gw2 seriously. 3, the game is based on auto attack spam
But fair play to those benefitting. Why not. If anet managed to trick their marketing department into giving money to 20 dudes to pay for their college fees (against very little competition) then why not take the chance. Good luck to them.
Well done to the marketing department. That 200k for 3k viewers is incredible. The turn on investment must be awful. Hopefully for anet nobody at NCsoft finds out how they wasted $200k for 3k viewers (actually like 500-700 viewers for all but the lan events which is funny if it wasnt so sad.)

This is also why I don’t play. Well a reason for it. 500-0 everyone is pretty dull. They should link rating to rank. And just make people play 20 placement games then get ranked. OP should be able to get diamond in about 20 games. It solves all the problems.
Moral of the story? Getting rid of MMR leaderboards killed this game. Hilarious this game gets worse the more development he does.

Good people can be in MMR hell. However if you are really good you won’t be there. That goes for any game. You can be ranked lower than you should be for sure. But the very best people would break out of bad MMR brackets in a few games.
Also if you want to rank up then really just go to every team fight. Thats how you win solo queue. Dont go free-capping far when they 3v3 mid. You go mid. Kill everyone by carrying. Then just keep killing people over and over. That has been how to carry solo queue since the game came out and I doubt it has changed now.

Yeh, but the thing is…this way lies madness. You should be listening to issues people have NOT their solutions. As their solutions cannot be good. You are the designers, the experts, the professionals. They are just players. It would be fair better to listen to peoples issues with the game. Such as “Feature x is frustrating”. And not “This should be changed by 53% to do that”. Honestly, I think you guys listen too much to the feedback, especially on balance.

Seriously though, if you get to legend you get 1 hour queue times. To earn that “reward” you have to farm 50 games in a row vs complete newbs. I played 5 games or something. 500-0 or so every game because I win every 1v2.
And I don’t even try at this game or know anything about this game. So I have to go through idiots for 50 games just to get 1 hour queue times? Yeh I stopped after 5 games. I will return for my next 5 games in another 6 months :P
Dead game.
Like really? I played a few games. First time in ages. This is what I found:
1, GW2 is pure spam. There is no skill anymore. Auto attacks do massive damage.
2, I have to play games vs total beginners. Even without trying and having barely played for 18 months its just easy mode. Squashing these idiots every game. Not much fun to just roll these people for me or them.
3, You rank up so slowly. How can anyone play this game ever? The league system is garbage. It should have a system where you play placement games and then get placed in a league suited to your MMR. Instead its just a lazy pip system which is just about grinding and stomping complete no hopers in ranked arena.
So end result…none of me or my friends can play this game because your ranked system is not good enough. Sorry. Not that we would want to play for long though seen as its a no-skill spam game.
Lastly, you have made 1 supported and “competitive” (according to you) map since release. And that was in 2012. No new maps for 3.5 years. That is remarkable.

It is possible I suppose. But then again I think its unlikely. So I would say its all debatable.

Necro pre-buff is a-ok to begin with. It turned into an overpowered monster when they give a lot of access to boon corruption which was in response to the bunker boon stacking meta.
Now that the celestial amulet and runes of durability is gone, then they give the Reaper boon corrupting buffs which was way too dumb to begin with.

So lets get this right. They give away precursors. They promote this in game. Promote this in forums. Promote it on social media. Gw2 has sold 6 million copies or more. They give away 200k. They waste money on organising the events 2hich could easily be another 200k. And all for 3 or 4k viewers? Yeh anet suck at business

Game has been dead for over a year. Anet decided to give a small amount of money to some dudes so they have try harded. There is about 20 or 30 people in the world who take this game seriously. Probably been that way for 2 years. There is no serious element to the game. I know for a fact the pro players are nothing special at all, because there is o competition. Dead game is dead. Has been dead and will always be dead because it sucks

Not going to happen mate. Conquest is the foundation sPvP is built on, for better or worse. I’d personally like to see some really small changes made to skyhammer, spirit watch, courtyard and Capricorn and then just throw them in ranked. Variety is more important then small unbalances IMO.

The result is a game based on spam and rotations basically. It took all the skill out of it, and that was a while ago now. I basically quit a few days after that patch. It was so stupid. Such a huge power creep.
Would an fps be fun if everyone carried round nukes and everyone also had made body armour? Nope. It would be balanced, sure. But its not good design. Look at gw2 now. Everyone has perms boons. Perma condis. Perma condi clear. Perma 6k attacks. Perma healing. There are traits which are a whole build in one trait. There was a reason alot of these traits were spread out before. If you wanted to run signets there were a few traits to take. Meditations on guardian meant a few traits. That meant builds were more focussed on a role and had weaknesses which could be exploited with skilled play.
Look at some of the traits now. They are insane . They are about 4 traits combined. This is madness. That is why the game is dead. People play pvp for pve rewards. That is all.
There are about 20 dudes probably not talented enough to suceed at real esports games who will exploit the fact anet is giving away a bit of money for their dead game. There is no skill i this game. Its all based on comp, has been for 18 montns. And on spamking rotations on a point.

Suggestions :
Change Life Blast to have the same speed and condition transfer ability as its underwater variant, Plague Blast. Also, make the piercing/vulnerability from Unyielding blast part of its base abilities.
Change Dark Path to a teleport or leap similar to Infiltrator’s Arrow or Jump Shot, and enemies near where you land/teleport are chilled and blinded.
Doom…Hmm. Sadly, the only ideas I have for this one are to either make it the underwater variant’s Wave of terror or make it like Infusing Terror… :/
Life Transfer siphons boons from enemies and conditions from allies per pulse.
Tainted Shackles gives stability for each foe bound at the skill’s use.

Firstly, thanks for taking time out look into this. Whilst this has been a hotly debated topic in the past, it’s good to finally see some conclusive evidence on the matter.
I ran these figures again through my contacts in China and found much the same numerically. A nerf would seem like a legitimate response, if only to ease the concerns of ncsoft shareholders (who we believe regularly check this site).

On topic: My assistant told me that there was some other evidence floating around with your contacts in China. I was quickly briefed on the findings of this other group of researchers this morning by my head of global relations. Seems like both groups independently came to the same conclusions which adds further evidence to the necessity to nerf rangers pets.
The numbers might change with the upcoming balance patch, but I think within a few weeks my team will have some pretty detailed findings once again.

All boons need the vigor treatment and in 1 swoop the whole power creep goes away. But espicially protection and regen. I would lower regen by 20% and make prot a 20% damage reduction vs other players
30% damage decrease to all ranger pets would be acceptable? Where are you numbers coming from?
This isn’t “research”, where is any proof of these insane statistics that you " calculated". Anybody can go on a forum and talk about how they calcd all these numbers and did research.
I feel everyone wants the person nerfed because for once they can’t just be ignored like it has been like for years. For once you guys have to think and actually deal with a pet that makes a difference.
Then some streamer rages over pet dps and everyone jumps on the bandwagon because hey he’s a streamer he must be good right? Not really, if he can’t kill a druid in spvp because of the pet then sorry he’s terrible at this game.
I can count probably 3 hours as the TOTAL gw2 streams I have watched in 3 years dude. If you have seen my twitch account in any gw2 streams talking or watching then please let me know because my account must be compromised….. So its not exactly jumping on a bandwagon. I have no idea who you even talking about either lol
i already considered pets that did 2-5k dmg on their “burst” abilities , knockdowns other cc’s with animations as pretty good pets.
but now we have pets who do 7-10k+ dmg every 10-15seconds, unblockable knocks, evades, permanent quickness, permanent 25 might. All this with druid having incredible control, best self sustain and decent damage for a “support”.

So 2.5 seconds quickness every 16 seconds, an elite that requires Bristleback f2 on a 48 cd that gives you some might for 15 secs, providing all attacks lands = perma quickness and perma 25 mights lol…

Your so-called best sustain got ripped through by Revenant in 2 seconds. (Banish Enchantment spam 18 stacks confusion + 6 cover condition in 2 seconds), which in a +1 situation you could die instantly if the opponent has half a brain.
All Druid’s cleanse has a delay of 2~2.5 seconds (Glyphs, seed of life).Druid’s “only” stun-break has a cd of 20, meaning if you got dragged into cc chain, most of the time you’re dead in a team fight. (While Revenant has stun-break with no cd, Mesmer has lots of teleport, invulnerable and evade)
Sometimes Druid’s stunbreak is counter-productive against Revenant because it’d trigger another CC from their trait that leads to another 3 secs taunt, which by then you’re usually dead.Learn the real world, start doing some real fight, and you’d see that Druid is one of the most balanced class currently in the current Meta. (No cheese mechanic, no 40 secs protection, no infinite cleanse, no infinite stability, no infinite stun-break, no evade evade evade block block block for the whole matches, moderate damage, vulnerable in outnumber fight, vulnerable to cc and so on)
i guess this applies for sapphire / ruby level druids only?
Only a sapphire / ruby dude would cry Druid OP because not many people even play that in legendary. (Because those pros all know Druid is not really strong at all, and cant fight outnumber fight and carry the team like Rev and Chrono do)
If you really fight some legendary division level fight, you’d know how vulnerable druid is in a team fight, and every decent Revenants know that, and would target you in the team fight and quickly kill you.50% play Revenant and 30% play Chorno in legend division.
I suck at this game. Have not played for 6 months until a week ago and hardly played for the 6-12 months before that too. So I am terrible.
And I played some legend games because I queued with a legend and honestly….lol at calling legend anything other than a grind. My experience was legend was full of pretty poor players. Almost as bad as me, and I have no idea about playing this game partly because of outside time commitments and partly because of all the research I put into the game for the good of the community.
Try to play more and you’d find some God tier players.
The skill level difference within legend is very big, and some people are just trying classes they never played after they hit legend. (Which the result would obviously be poor)
However, since legend division is “extremely hard to climb” (Diamond doesn’t even come close), a x2 and upward legend means you have to always out-perform others to reach it.
There’s only 50-ish people in the entire game that hit x3 legend.
There’re only 4 people in the world that hit x7

I dont have to be good to know how stupid and OP something is. Especially when it is backed up by research. Its not rocket science. I dont even know any of the skills or traits for any of the classes besides necro. And I dont care what they are. But I know pets hitting me for 5k a time isn’t good for the game.
I highly doubt a division which is just a grind matters much. That ended once they got rid of proper solo queue and mmr leaderboards in general.
Besides, the best players I have ever seen in this game are WvW players who rarely set foot in “stand on a point” pvp.
i already considered pets that did 2-5k dmg on their “burst” abilities , knockdowns other cc’s with animations as pretty good pets.
but now we have pets who do 7-10k+ dmg every 10-15seconds, unblockable knocks, evades, permanent quickness, permanent 25 might. All this with druid having incredible control, best self sustain and decent damage for a “support”.

So 2.5 seconds quickness every 16 seconds, an elite that requires Bristleback f2 on a 48 cd that gives you some might for 15 secs, providing all attacks lands = perma quickness and perma 25 mights lol…

Lol i also saw a few times people on my team, an engi it was, he teleported straight from close to far. Was hilarious. Didnt report it because he was on my team so i figured he was helping us win so it was ok
DS1 must have faster cast and some sort of small aoe/multi target. Maybe bounce to 2 additional targets?!
DS 2 instead of projectile that eventually hit and teleport us to the target, make the necro travel to the target(like projectile) and evade all attacks during the travel. The skill will be the same, but we will get evade on top of it. If it doesn’t hit, teleport back to the starting point.
DS 3 is fine as it is, maybe comparing it to RS, lower the CD a little, 18s?
DS 4 Add some stability.
DS 5 Targets take more damage(20%) while bound to you(during the 4 sec. animation). Alternatively, 1sec. cripple pulse per sec for the duration of 4sec. When finish if not evaded or out of range, not only immobilize but 1/2 sec daze all affected targets.
Ds4 needs a condition associated with it imo. Otherwise it will always be inferior to repears
