The thing I found ironic is that as strong as they are they are not anywhere near as game-breaking as necros currently are.

Why would you assume that? How I personally deal with bomb engis is irrelevant to the topic. I am capable of forming views on balance which aren’t just based around which classes I find it hard to deal with. If they had made this an spvp map only first before forcing it down our throats to at least see its issues people wouldn’t b going wild. I mean Jesus Christ wtf is the meaning of spoiling team runs in tpvp js to show this stupid map. They could have at least let us try it in spvp alone first.

Maps should see a beta stage where they are run in hotjoin/custom arenas before being approved for tournament rotation.

it’s sad how people rather QQ than simply adapting their build (which is prob meta and copied off sombody else) to be more effective on the new map, everyone class has CC’s and it shouldn’t be too hard to understand not to fight by edges.

Skyhammer is amazing for bringing a different and fresh new playstyle which allows for creativity

But then it isn’t really pvp anymore is it. It has become about pulling people off a cliff. I don’t really see how that is more fun than actually testing your skill against another player.

That’s great news. A couple months ago, engineers had probably four of the top five most fun non-viable builds. It’s great to hear that they are becoming usable.

Guess you gave up pvp too soon. Engy has a couple meta builds now. Condy pp build used to be the king of far point also does great in mid point. Bomb engi nullifies any melee power builds, a great home point stealer. recently 30 30 10 necro has raised up to the top and beats anyone at mid, home or far point. Before that it was pretty much engi.

This is my point.

It stops 100% base condition duration on newly applied conditions only. It does not effect conditions already on the warrior, and it will not stop conditions which have increased condition duration (just remove the base codition duration – in effect shortening it to the length of the increase.)

People.. it is not immunity, it is 100% cond reduction, which means even if you have 10% cond duration your bleed will still tick at least once etc..

Any game with classes is going to have some level of “Here’s my trump card for your trump card.” Stuns are paper, Stun breakers/Stability are Scissors, Boon removal is the Rock. In GW1 it was the same thing, in DCUO it was the same thing, in Eve online it’s the same thing, in every multiplayer class based game it’s the same thing. There’s no getting away from it.

This is pretty crude though. Much like the engineer trait which means no conditions effect them under 25% health. I think this narrow design is bad for the game.

Is poorly thought out. Good design doesnt just make a character immune to damage from other characters. As a necro you will 100% lose to a warrior running berserker stance 1 on 1. They have 10 seconds where they cannot die. They will kill you in this 10 seconds without any doubt.

Not really fun. No counter play possible. If warrior has this skill you just die.

13k heal from engy heal combo is indeed a bit too strong imo and ofc that spec can still get nasty damage from burn on crit trait. Bleed+weakness+burn on autos. So lovely for any meleechars trying to nuke him. :’(

S/D thief is strong, but I have no suggestions on how to balance it, if you overbreak the sword, then it becomes useless again and thieves are only left with a nerfed D/P backstab spec.

And they get to your point in stealth and can get away the same way

The healing turret espicially could do with a nerf and remove the lame stealth this engi build can get access to.

These two, along with terror necro, are the least fun builds. They are lame and overpowered.

It is so lame right now.

Even being a necro I would happily have the patch reversed and just get the ds5 and buff to scepter/staff auto attack. I miss the old corrupt boon which required skill. And I hate the new spam which gives massive dps with no skill.

Please nerf necro hard and reverse the buffs. Heck – I would love burning to be removed. And then give me back my corrupt boon :/

They did it to BM rangers too. It became so easy to play anyone could pick it up and contribute. Dont let necro be the same.

For those who think AOE dmg is a problem

The following classes have too much AoE:

1, Elementalist – everything they do seems aoe. And very powerful
2, Engineer – Insane aoe – dont even have to target anyone
3, Necro – ridiculous aoe but at least on the staff its on a longer cd
4, Thief – cluster bomb
5, Mesmer – aoe from shatters is ridiculous
6, guardian and warrior – even the aoe cleave on the greatsword or longbow/scepter is a bit crazy
7, Ranger – If spirits become a thing then aoe will be a problem again for these.

I mean – AoE sucks alot. Nerfing it must be done super carefully though. The whole game is balanced around it.

Viable high end DPS Guardian build?

I play with a DPS guardian alot and it is really strong. There are several builds out there I expect. They are viable. Greatsword has very high damage for the guardian so I disagree with the poster above

I think BM ranger is still exceptionally strong. SO many evades. So much condi removal (with no effort required).

I would like to see emphatic bond trigger every 15 seconds and evades on sword/dagger being reduced but yet give rangers across the board buffs to make dps specs more viable.

so i finally got my friends/guildies to gather up and play sPvP as a team. we’ve all had some sort of experience with it one way or another through hotjoins and solo queues (some more than the others), but this was the first time the 5 of us were going to play together as a team. we ran our builds, discussed roles each would take, and even borrowed a channel on our server’s official TS channel.

5 hours later, half of the team was completely discouraged, because we weren’t only losing every single match, we were being obliterated by obviously far more skilled players. so is the matchmaking system completely broken, or just inexplicably turned off?

hotjoins can only help so much, it’s not like the 5 of us can play as a team on hotjoins because of how autobalance and team distribution works, and hotjoins are either 8v8 matches (that are usually a complete mess and couldn’t be further from representing rated matches) or dueling arenas. the 5v5 arenas that aren’t repurposed for dueling will either never fill, or cause even more trouble to practice teamwork.

so what’s the solution here? buy a custom arena and get 5 more people to form another team so you can get some practice on people that are also newcomers? that’s hardly inviting.

There is no solution until the pvp population expands to the point where matchmaking can put new players against other new players. Also not having a solo q means that the ladder is all mixed up and weird. Again meaning new players could get destroyed by solo q veterans who formed a team on an evening.

P.s. At least there isnt a gear differential as well as a skill differential!

Terror hasn’t changed. Its always done the same damage it has now since forever. Necros were considered weak and not viable before. Then ANet adds burning (nothing else changed, torment is frankly useless and has next to no up time to matter) and suddenly necromancers need to be nerfed, starting with terror? kitten? Doesn’t even make any sense.

What needs to be nerfed is the amount of damaging conditions they have right now. I think replacing Burning with Torment on Dhuumfire would tone them down but still leave them with the pressure they currently have.

Let’s not forget that this is the class that can drop 10stacks of bleed on you in the blink of an eye so adding burning to them would be crazy damage. Now replace that with 3 stacks of torment and you’ve got yourself less conditions to clear but relatively, the same amount of damage.

Bad idea. Every condition class NEEDS burning. Because burning is so good. I like the hinted-at idea in sotg – which is reduce bleed application on some on the skills and buff the lf generation

The reason that pve players don't pvp

A major reason most pve and wvw players dont get into pvp is because the tournament community is so small that when they play they get matched up vs experienced pvpers.

So it ends up being demoralizing for them and they quit.

Solution = bigger player base so matchmaking can match people of closer rankings.

The patch made the game better

The meta was stale and boring. At least this patch mixed things up a bit. Necro at the top – fine. it will come back down next patch of course.

The only way this patch will be bad for the game is if they take months to patch it like they did with OP cantrip eles (6 months to nerf). I expect they will nerf necro next patch and another meta will develop.

Something being really OP isnt a good thing. But it is better than the same tired old builds over and over again. Changes to the meta should be welcomed – as long as Op stuff is nerfed in a timely manner.

They should reset every month and declare a winner every month. That is once they actually get a ladder decay (decay after 3 days no play and significantly after 5 days no play). Come on, these are the basics.

every month is a bit too frequent, every 3/6 months sounds more reasonable imo.

6 months? That is completely unacceptable. It just leads to stagnation which is bad. The community right now is insanely small. It really kills the game. I can queue with rank 40-50 dudes or rank 10-15 dudes and we play the same kittening people because nobody plays this kitten game!

Seriously the only thing that stops a necro is another necro – which then just becomes a lottery/spam fest. I literally win 50% of my necro vs necro fights just based on spam and luck. Necro really is unsatifying right now.

That’s not what I said. There are plenty of great necromancers saying the class is too strong right now. I like to think I’m one of them.

But if someone is below 70 percentile, I’m not sure he’s fit to declare his class “so freaking overpowered.” At that level, individual skill plays a much bigger role than class mechanics.

Balance just means something different at lower skill levels, but it isn’t irrelevant. The top tier players are comparing the relative strengths of various builds played near the skill cap where the rest of the population are comparing relative strengths at some percentage of the skill cap that is substantially lower.

While it is more critical to balance at/near skill cap the state of balance in lower skilled play cannot be ignored, because it would put the game in a state of “un-funness” for the majority of the population who will never play at/near the skill cap for various reasons. If these lower skilled players aren’t having fun, then they aren’t playing the game and no one is spectating the top tier players. When this happens population shrinks and the game dies.

That is why the perceptions of “lower tier” PvP players are relevant. Though you are spot on that the variance in skill level can be a major contributing factor in PERCIEVED imbalance where none or only a little bit exists.

That last paragraph is my main point. I’m OK with nerf aimed at balancing lower levels if there are proper buffs to outweigh the changes at higher tiers of play. I’m just saying that it’s really weird for poorly ranked players to declare a class faceroll and extremely overpowered when these same players don’t and can’t have a full grasp on the metagame.

Really. You judged us on rank. So I decided to run in a team just for a few hours. Pretty easy to get up from 95% to on the leaderboard. So now can I make comments?

Seriously. Get a grip of yourself. Rank means nothing.

Why so? The game should be balanced at all levels and be fun for all levels. Even those like me who suck deserve to have a fun balanced game. Just like the mega pros like you deserve the same.

Hardly taking credit. Still get stomped a ton. I still suck a ton. But all I am saying it is a lot easier to contribute in solo q since the patch. Too easy perhaps.

Be aware that part of this is the current map in rotation too. Temple is and has been a strong map for Necro in particular since introduction. I’ll bet that you aren’t going to hard carry matches on Foefire or Khylo the same way (although Neco might be able to solo LordGank a whole base in under 60s now).

Big balance patches shake things up. The early returns suggest that there may have been an over buff, but Necromancer probably had the most and most impactful changes of any class and it is going to force a major shift in the meta. This won’t happen in the first 72 hours, especially with such a small tPvP population. Give it a couple weeks and we’ll see where it lands.

True. The map matters. And legacy is obviously awful for necros.
