The leaderboards are so volatile that 3 wins in and row and you are easily top thousand OP so I wouldnt worry too much.
I think spectral armour should have a cool down of 60 seconds not 90 too. Or it should just give invulnerability like the engi little mode or mist form.
That is my view. The epidemic nerf was ill advised and ill thought out. Why do you persist in nerfing the best builds in classes which people never ever considered OP? (warrior/necro).
Epidemic was the heart of the necro build. It was the only reason to really bring a necro over an engi was epidemic. Our downedstate aoe damage is horrendously bad in comparison. Our marks dont even trigger on downed players (wtf). The cooldowns on the marks are so huge. The cast times on most the weapon sets are very long. And we are very very very slow. The only reason to bring a necro was:
1, Corrupt boon/epidemic – so we could at least make up for our worse conditions by moving them (sometimes) onto other players.
2, Res sig
Once res sig gets nerfed (I know they will do it – they have shown they like nerfing the few good things in crappy classes) then why ever bring a necro?
They have said they want to make corrupt boon unblockable (a good change) and epidemic unblockable (irrelevent imo). The problem with epidemic is the cast time. If you are going to make it dodgeable and have a 1 second cast time then it isnt viable. Even pre nerf it was hard to get a good epidemic off. Now it is impossible. And making it unblockable wont change anything. I wish the balance people in this game actually knew as much about the classes as the players.
Please make epidemic have a 1/2 second cast time and make it unblockable Also please make skills like corrosive poison cloud better by reducing the cast time and making it tick more often.
Stop targetting the good things in crap classes and maybe target the good things in op classes. We need buffs not nerfs. Thanks to making our best skill UTTERLY USELESS, necros are now seriously underpowered imo. Making epidemic unblockable will change almost nothing.
P.s. Minion necros suck just so you know. The trigger time between pressing their active abilities and when they activate is way too long. And the pathing is horrendus. And they dont regenarate health outside battle. Please dont buff things which are, because of design flaws, USELESS. There is no number tweaking which can make minions useful. So please dont try. Just buff the skills which work but suck (epidemic, corrosive poison cloud, well of power)
Doesnt seem like it. In fact the best way to preserve your good rating seems to be just to not play lol.
Please anet fix this matchmaking and split queues.

Money I expect. They need to get income from pvp so custom arenas seem their best bet.
Also custom arenas will be fun for pve guilds to enjoy. For serious pvpers it seems almost irrelevent unless some websites manage to organise monthly or weekly tournaments with prizes.
Do you use it and why?
I use it but might turn it off (as a necro with staff and s/d). The problems I find with it are that it is harder vs classes like other necros because there the speed matters less than making sure you land a few key spells. However vs eles and thieves it seems essential to have this fast ground targeting on.
There are pros and cons. Anyone got any they can think of?
Yeh the red ream wins lol. Lost a few 500-500 when it was 499-499 and we both had 1 point capped.
I find DS less responsive since the patch. I think.
Its just another thing I find annoying! I suck vs other necros though so doubt there is anything wrong with it
Getting out of hand. With the ladder people are proper rating nerds (nothing wrong with this I suppose) but the end result sucks for quite a few people.
1, Solo queuing seems to take longer to pop now (although at least it is always 5v5 ty for that anet – that change was most welcome) and when it does pop its more often now vs a premade (before some were vs solo queuers too)
2, Finding a group in map doesnt seem very fluid anymore. A group finder will help this, but again people dont want to screw their ranking by queueing with pugs from map chat.
All in all the tourny experience is good right now. But there are a few annoyances like this which build over time and become big issues. Map rotation too.

Imo is a beyond terrible idea this….
You can start with some life force by summoning flesh golem just before the game starts and then switching it out for plague form.
If they remove solo queue I will quit. I want option to queue solo when I want to. If you dont like it then dont do it. Dont remove the option for others.

anet dev said that rtl is getting his orb fix and mist form wont work with it..so why do you whine about orb running.Map is off for now anyway

OP is telling things from his own point of view and its quite understandable.I said before that theres a game out there that has big success and has a nice solid soloq option..I strongly believe that the soloq is a must right now in every competitive game.Every game is played by thousand of soloqers-casuals and less “pros”-team players.As much as we need the top teams so the top teams need a big casual-soloqers base.
In patch 26 feb,Xeph made a thread and was outrageous about that patch.I asked him if he considering of quiting and he said yes..A day later he said that he reconsider and when i asked him why he said that I will quit if he quits.Ofc was offensive and i didnt answer that kitten but still proved something.First Xeph is having a narcisism problem.Second the top leaderboard dudes must start thinking differently,you are not alone,dont see things from your own point of view,i paid for this game so are you,both customers must be satisfied..

I can understand that to be at the first 100-200 players you need all the 6 things that you named before but you must understand that there must be some room for us casuals to have more fun too.I dont want to have the 6 things but still i want to play this game and feel that my efforts are rewarded and im getting better
Well I dont disagree on solo q of course. Just saying its moving in the right direction. And people know the limitations of the system and these things will always happen.

It is inevitable that the leaderboard will be based on teams because it is a game where teams and not individuals compete. So just because it depends what teams you run it doesn’t make the leaderboard any less valid. The players at the top still have to earn their rating.
If you want to achieve a good ranking then follow the steps listed below:
1, Play in a team only – get used to playing with the same people so you coordinate your play and so you all know your tactics and responses to particular situations.
2, Play on teamspeak – teamspeak isn’t really essential imo (if people were aware of their map and ui), but it probably helps in certain cases. There is no reason not to use it and the advantage it provides will benefit you in some close matches.
3, Play with a balanced team – this makes all the difference tbh. Often playing without a bunker or a backpoint defender can be fun but you will probably lose to a balanced team unfortanetly.
4, Play with people on their mains, not alts. Often people get bored of the same class or same build so try stuff out. If you really care about your ranking you should stop others doing this and doing it yourself. Sure you just end up seeming like a kitten to people perhaps but thats the way you have to do it.
5, Try to queue with 5 as often as possible – obviously it is tempting to just queue with 3 or 4 or even solo when you cba to wait for someone. But if you want to get a good ranking then you should probably avoid it. Tbh queuing without 5 is pretty lame since they introduced laurels into pvp.
6, If you cant play with a team try to play with people you know. This isnt always possible so usually it is just worth going to map chat to find someone. However if you really care about your ranking and rating then you should avoid doing this and just wait for “your team” or people you know to come online
So, PLEASE dont kitten and moan about leaderboards anymore. They are a good addition to the game. Even if you dont follow most of the steps above often then leaderboards still add some fun and progression (it has for me at least) which was missing.
If you don’t follow the steps above then dont moan about having a bad ranking. That is life. Get over it and have fun playing the game. It is still fun to work on improving your rating within whatever parameters you have set yourself. For example, say you ONLY solo queue then maybe you want to try and get to the top 200 as your target or something. It is still fun.
I love it when people pretend that the ele is hard to play well. It isnt. You can spam dodges due to perma vigor. You get boons just by clicking buttons. And even if you are bad enough to not dodge you have god like get out of jail cards like mist form. Then you dodge (can always dodge) after simply going into water and you are max health again. Not really complicated. Ele is by far the most forgiving class. You can even be bad enough to run into 3 dudes and still get out alive. Try that with a necro lol

Great write-up. Just so you guys know, we’re trying to bring down the cantrip Ele, while also being careful to let other Ele builds work. We don’t want to just take all Ele’s out of play, but we do need to bring a few things down (traits/skills) in efficacy.

I have noticed the system is significantly flawed when it comes to volume. If I lose 3 games in a row my rating will drop me from around 50-70th to around 450th (I saw this happen from rank 44 to rank 400 in a few games). And I have almost 900 games on the leaderboard.
I think this system should take into account previous play. It is as if it only cares about your last 20 games. This is statistically incorrect and frustrating. A bad streak shouldnt matter as much if it is small in comparison to your total amount of play.
What I would like to say to anet:
So you decided to crap all over the best necro build by ruining our best skill (epidemic) whilst doing kitten all to compensate us (lower epidemic cast time should of been done).
Yeh have fun epidemicing with a 1 second cast time on an ele who has infinite dodges or vs a guardian who can throw up a block at any moment – hint – this is impossible to skillfully do because of the long cast time unlike corrupt boon which is fine.
We need some buffs to the necro now imo. (o yeh and not to kittening minions). Give us some buffs to the staff auto attack and give us reduced epidemic cast time.
Its a good post and I would wish anet would read it. But they see things differently. I wouldnt except any ele nerfs in the near future. They already said in the last sotg that they thought ele healing was fine after their tiny evasive arcana nerf.

I have played almost 900 games and if I lose 2 games I drop about 200 ranking places and visa versa. As someone with detailed knowledge on statistics this worries me. It should be that any effect on the average (or rating as it is in game) is effected by the sample size. Thus, your rating should become far less volatile the more games you play. The fact it doesnt means I really dont see how the system works.
The fact they fixed this for next patch makes me hopeful they also fixed rtl when crippled or chilled to reduce its range. This bug really needs fixing as it effects every game on every map.
I think this points to a bigger issue. Say you go 300-0 and then lose 15 games in a row. You will end up down at rank 500 or something despite being 300-15. This isnt how it should work. It should not ignore your past play at all. I really am confused lol. I went from rank 44 to rank 400 in about 10 games going 3-7.
Or your rating is only a few points higher or lower than those around you, and others are going up and down as well. If the MMR spread is small it doesn’t sound like an issue.
So 8 games or something out of 850 matters enough for 300 spaces on the leaderboard? It makes no sense.
I literally went down 300 places in about 10 games :O Didnt even lose them all, and have over 800 tourny games since they reset the roster. Anyone else experience this? Seems like it ignores all but the last few games you play.
10 games out of my 900 shouldnt make much difference imo. The more you play the more your rating should be settled

Necro can fit into a team and do a good job. It just isnt essential or defining like guardian, ele or mesmer. Those classes are way more powerful than a necro.
so someone explain to me how a guy that has 7 wins, 4 losses is ranked #49?

Updates? Almost two weeks since announcement.
I expect them to come early this week and to be a massive let down. This game is dead and honestly there is less and less reason to continue because:
1, No progress on features ever
2, No progress on balance ever
3, Snails pace progress on bug fixes (rtl not effected by chills and cripples, eles losing conditions when they use downed state ability)
I am not blaming anyone or anything. Not hating on the game. Those are the facts though so whatever.

I am not really doomsaying, just trying to raise my concern as to my interpretation of what the leaderboards will be. The current format of top 100 is not helpful for anyone, relativistic rankings (based on other players) will not give us the information that we as players would find attractive. The real thing we wish to see is our rating (Glicko) so we can accurately see if we are improving or tilting, basically to keep track of where we are. A leaderboard is nice to try and make the remaining community more competetive in this environment, but allowing all players to view “where they stand” (not meaning relative) and track their progress would bring more players than a digit from 1 to 100 ever can.
Yup. Everyone knows this. Anet were quoted as saying they dont think people to see their “number” as it means nothing (lol) but then I heard rumours that they changed their mind on this and will show the number when it settles down.
If they are waiting for the numbers to be settled to show our number = fine
If it is a design choice to not show us our number as Jon peters said = fail
I hope they learnt and dont bother to do it again. There really is no point at all. If they cant tell us anything then there is no point asking them questions is there.

I hate the fact people can mist form stomp. It removes so much counter play from the game which is just bad design.
Sometimes people just rage which is understandable. Sometimes however people are just trolls and that is what the ignore list is for. Those who actively just want to argue/be rude are usually lacking something in their real life and that leads them to try and feel big on the internet as they are feeling pathetic in their real lives.

The weapon choices are correct but some traits are wrong.
There is no such thing as correct. I was just saying I would always want a guardian I was with to run those weapons. Personal opinion.
I personally ALWAYS want a bunker guardian I play with to run staff and mace/focus. I really dont see why you wouldnt take these weapons? Not that I play guardian….but I wouldnt want a hammer guardian with scepter shield on my team lol.

I was happy for new invisible leaderboards, lets hope they add more invisible pvp modes as swiftly as they added everything else in pvp, since conquest is one of the most boring pvp scenarios…
Seriously.
They kittened up terribly when it comes to innate toon to toon synergy and map type.
Anet didn’t just get rid of tanks and dps and healers… they got rid of the mass majority of the need to rely/work with other people to tank/dps/heal… I at least play MMOs to meet and work with people, GW2 utterly failed in that department.
Really if you play gw2 pvp and dont think you have to work with teammates to synergise and coordinate your play then you just completely suck and need to learn the game.
The main reason you cant carry in this game is because team work and communication are so important.
This is why they can never give us dates. They said, if we give you a timeline and run into delays, it will be worse than just saying soon. And you guys are proving em right. The reason they cant communicate more detailed timelines (even if they might be open to revision) is because of stuff like this.

Not to say im not frustrated, I wish they made some of this stuff in pvp a priority, but they are not lying to us.
Not the point. The point is they put leaderboards in the patch notes just to trick pvp players into thinking there was anything for them when there wasnt. It was a crude attempt to stop us complaining. Didn’t work on me and shouldnt on you.

How can we trust them?
Many people came back to gw2 expecting the leaderboards. If they leave again there won’t be a “next time”
Yeh, in the last week or so there have been more decent teams than I have seen in months. People did come back. And it has made for some very fun games. Sometimes these teams stomp us, sometimes we stomp them, but often it is close. Of course stompings happen even between good teams because sometimes 1 team plays really bad or gets really unlucky but at least on the whole the games I have had recently have been very fun indeed. These people will quit soon without leaderboards!
Now we know that leaderboards were neither in the last patch or “almost” ready to be “switched on” within a week (lol) how does this make you feel about the last patch.
Personally it makes me mad for a few reasons:
1, This was another patch with nothing for pvp. So in “feburary/march big pvp patch” all we got was the most unbalanced map ever (spirit watch). Nothing else at all. Literally nothing. Even in the pvp themed patch we get f all.
2, They knew people would be mad about having nothing again for pvp so they made sure leaderboards was in the patch notes even though it doesnt exist and still doesnt even exist and we are almost half way to the next patch.
3, Balance again nothing changed except they nerfed strong builds in classes which werent meta defining:
- The only viable warrior build at a decent level – 100b – got deleted (you can still do well with a warrior but now it really is weak. Before it was ok)
- Thief builds besides the d/p bs build were made worse
- By far the best necro build was destroyed by nerfing the main skill used (epidemic) with no changes to its cast time or anything.
- Engi 100 nades build (gimmicky though) was nerfed although they still have one of the strongest builds in the game
And yet the things which actually define the meta (rtl/mist form) were left untouched. Bizarre. It is like the balance team has some imaginary meta where everyone is running around as minion necros or signet warriors.
People who say we should be patient and happy to wait are crazy. It has been a year since beta and no new features? Not only that but they went on a marketing drive to say feb/march would be big times for pvp. And what have we got? Literally nothing. They supposedly were working all last year on things which would be ready early this year. That was clearly a lie to the pvp community. Then these laughable leaderboards. The ones which dont exist and they just put in the patch notes to trick us all into thinking maybe pvp does get some love.
Coordinate with your team to know which ele has used mist form and when. If he has used mist form then focus him and usually you can burst him down. Dont bother focussing an ele who hasnt used mist form above other priority targets.
Most eles will go into mist form and water at the same time. Then into air to rtl away. If you can immob them just after they have been in water you can also kill them.
The key is mist form though. It is so op that focussing an ele who hasnt already used it is a waste of burst in a team fight. Once he has used mist form though he is obviously very killable to focussed attacks.
You fix the map please. The bugs with rtl and the orb make it kind of an unplayable unbalanced mess. Everyone gets disheartened with balance on this map. I think on any other map you never want more than 2 elementalists (I prefer 1 tbh), but on spirit watch last time the most successful teams seemed to run 3 elementalists.
Spirit watch is fun and a great concept but it isnt ready to be a tournment map yet until you fix the issues with certain orb runners. Before the quickness nerf ranger was an awesome orb runner. It is still good but nowhere near ele after the nerf as an orb runner. This further pushes you into a 3 ele team on this map which really I promise you isnt fun for many people.
It seems probable to me that they were going to do this within a week and then the super adventure box was an epic success so they rushed to fix things in this and to create gem store items for it whilst putting leaderboards on the backburner.
