Never used spirits in PvE so far. I think back then when I started they even were weaker then now and you’d need a ton of traits(I did not want to use because if important trait points or other traits that could be used instead). I’ll look into that guide listing and some guides later, thanks.

Traps I thought seemd a bit slow on activation time(if you try using them while in combat). PvE I have used them so far and did not like it… always moving and kiting and always to fast with dodge or other skills and it already cancelled the trap cause I was too fast and the trap to slow and still not placed ha ha.

So I might try that BM with regeneration. Shouts you said? I have them on guardian and I know there also is a rune that removes conditons and I saw we have traits that give switfness and regenerations on shouts.

Interesting. I’ll try to experiment a bit later.

Ah that is looking interesting. I noticed in his build(and in other builds I saw) that they use a lot of healing power. Why is this? Always thought healing was only something for Guardian or maybe a bit Ele with water attunemnt healing stuff.

Is this mainly for pet passive regeneration? Or is there any other use? According to wiki most other stuff does not seem to scale that much but that Signet of the Wild seems strong if it really addas 0.25 of your healing power to heal per second.

Hi. Soon I will finish last story missions with my 4th char – Sylvari Ranger – and then I want to take him to WvW. (I usually level PvE first and do story a bit).

So far I have Engineer, Guardian, Ele and most of them are playing in zergs and damage or support focused.

Now I want to make the Ranger more into a roamer and try roaming. I noticed in Orr the pet can be tanky against NPC mobs – maybe this helps and makes it easier to solo a camp(if no enemy real player nearby).

I want some build recommendations. What should I prefer? Direct damage or conditions? (So far even on my engineer I prefer direct damage cause I use him in zerg and I heard zerg with guardians can easy defend against conditions so they are useless).

Can celestial gear be used? Always wanted to use that but haven’t tried it on any class and have a lot of charged quarz stored.

Which weapons? I think 1 ranged(long or shortbow) and then 1 melee set? I heard warhorn is good because of speed buff and stuff(and I got still a super skin cause of the fun sound and animation it makes). Maybe sword + warhorn?

Which traits? Just post some ideas if you have(and maybe with warhorn or celestial gear if there exist builds with that – if not recommend other stuff). I will try some own stuff later this evening when I’m playing more.

Is my rating also adjusted by my teammates?

WvW we have server. They had rating like they were single players fighting each other. sPvP we don’t rate teams as team, not the individual player(but I think team rating should have that but probably not enough teams then).

If players rated of course it should compare both teams rating. Winning team gets to win rating. More rating gained if winning against a stronger enemy, less rating gained if winning against weaker enemy. Other way round for losing.

Only question is how you distribute it among the different players. I’d say take the average ratings of each team and compare them. Then you can use this do adjust single player rating. He does not fight against 1 super high rated. Not against 1 super low… if there is a mixed team you need to use the average of the enemy team. Also his is not by himself… that low guy against a higher average. He has people helping him.

Let then gain or lose that team average some rating… like how youl would do it if there was 1 vs. 1 between 2 average players.

Then just distribute the rating gain or loss. But give them rating based on the percentage of their rating on the total team rating! (added – not average).

If you have team A: 800, 1000, 1200 = average: 1000
And the team fights against let’s say team with average 1400 and wins 200 rating
→ team average rating would be 1200.

But you don’t distribute 200/3 → higher rated members of your team probably contributed more and lower members “leeched” and learned a bit(they still increase cause they learn of this better matchup).

800 +1000 + 1200 = 3000.

800/3000(contribution of the 800 rated player to team) * 200 (teams rating gain) = 53,33

Others gain 66,67 and 80.

(Instead of all 66,67).

Worst wvw player

Hey, that does not mean yo are the worst WvW player. WvW is anything but not 1 vs. 1. I think there are a lot of things different from sPvP. Other(or no) cap at crit damage I think. Also the gear could be different(maybe a lot of ascended geared while you are exo only). Then some classes are stronger. I think thief and mesmer you it is very hard to 1 vs. 1 – you either lose(and if you are glassy you lose too fast) or you don’t lose… which does not mean you win. If they are low health they have lots of stealth and thief also can get away fast with shortbow. Not worth to 1 vs. 1 a thief. If I want to fight them I stay defending something and wait for them to come. If they run away… well most other classes I’d say: Running = they die. Cause they don’t pay attention to what’s happening behind them and if you can follow them fast you can finish them(they often already run at low health).

But thief you probably die. You run after him… suddenly he appears to have stopped running and comes out of stealth healed back up to kill you fast. Running away thief = trap he wants to make you think he is weak.

Always use 2 people against thief that each have an AoE stuff like engineer Big ol’bomb – good to rez teammate while thieves gos to stealth stomp.

I remember there ware rewards for people that bought gems with real money in the past. I think 2 times(2nd time some kite earlier this year I think… 1st time I don’t know… some mini Wintersday last year? – I only know it happned 2 times I think).

Do you think there will be another such reward? Just curious cause I bought gems the first time today. Go 10k achievement reward and traded a bit gold for 200 gems to buy another bank tab.

And since I have stored blacklion merchant and stuff like(which I get a lot from ap chests or daily achievements) stored on my main It always has full intenvore and I decided to buy 800 gems with real money to get 2 more bag slots as well.

Anyone else noticed this? I was at top to do the Hybrid. Then wanted to go back(after doing Hybrid) cause a chamber was open nearby at the third floor where you easily could go from top – for chance on maybe a purple key for another tricolor key.

But then I got killed… by nothing. Someone rezzed me and I got killed again… on that wooden path up to the chest with wooden planks. No condition(first thought there might also be some toxic stuff in the air). Just 1-2 seconds heavy damages like 4-5k and I was dead. Bug?

I easily can detect them from their low health bar that is at 10 percent when they run away and spam clones that are at full health.

I think it’s a valid strategy. In WvW they even do more amazing stuff like porting whole zergs into a keep where doors and walls are still closed.

Other classes have more knockback and are good at top mid buff Temple of the Silent Storm to knock people down.

Only problem is at Khylo teams should have 1 mesmer each team then. But the matchmaking is not matching by classes(and I think you can even change classes by relogging on another char).

Oh, and class mix doesn’t matter, really. I’ve been on effective solo queue teams with 3 Guardians, 2 Necros, 4 Engineers, etc.

It does. But only for certain classes and combinations. How often did you win with 3 thieves against a 3 bunker warrior, 2 necro(or mixed with some guardians) team? Of course you can win with 3 guardians, 2 necros or 4 engineers. These are more of the stronger classes.

But you will have trouble if the enemy has more of these and you have more than 1 thief instead. Cause they are imo not that effective and they are “doing nothing” if there is so much bunker stuff that even can damage. High health necro + their fear. Or the bunker guardians and stuff.

There should be some team classes value calculated by classes. Classes you don’t want to have too many should be 1. Other classes 2. Classes where it is good to have 3 or more should have value 3. Then add this up. Give some special values into the calculation like only bunker guardian = weak(you still would need some damage) and let it balance with this. Or at least avoid more than 2 of each classes. Thieves/ ele maybe max 1.

This is imo the biggest problem atm. That other change they just made to matchmaking… I did not notice a big difference(maybe this was only important for the top 100 with those queu sychning and stuff at 70-85 percent I did not notice problems before and not much change now).

Unbalanced teams because of classes – this is a problem. Last 2 matches I played against 3 necro on enemy team and we lost. But I have to stay we were pretty strong. 2nd match it was close 450 vs. 500.. if they did not have 3 necros we probably would have won 500 vs. 350 or 400.

I don't know why. But on the 3rd level...

You mostly die because of the events and the Elites and there are no real safe zones to replenish health(cause elite and knockback spam veteran nearby scaling all up). If you are lucky and no event blocking it might be possible to run through it fast if you are careful and have enough skills to remove all conditions(immobilize) and heal a bit.

Toxic buff really is the smallest problem.

We need more things to use them on or to atleast be able to sell them. Myself and tons and tons of other people have gotten to the point we just destroy them. They take up inventory space.

Without giving any specifics, I’d highly recommend you change that strategy. There are things coming soon that will give you lots to spend it on.

I saw those new Consumables Toxic Sharpening Stone and stuff like that and stuff like that already use Bloodstone Dust. A nice thing cause that Bloodstone really drops most for me(doing WvW mostly).

Empyreal fragment is 2nd most. I still get a lot. Maybe there will be other consumables then? Or even food(I know there is some food at the new vendor but it does not use these materials). I always thought there should be ascended food and other consumables that use these stuff unrefinded(while the refined versions go into weapons).

Dragonite would be nice. As WvW player I have like only 1-2 stacks of these while tons of more of both of the other materials. But if you need to replace something with it then replace bloodstone(it currently is the most we earn) – to make it balanced to se can earn same amount of each of the 3.

Maybe this could be added to rank chests as well. You could have to choose from 3 and then like 10 or 20 where you choose + other rewards you usually get.

Yeah. Immobilize definitely is a bigger problem. Knockback and Knockdowns stuff the stun breakers aren’t really needed(I don’t like to fill important utility slots with them for fighting against stupid PvE mobs). If you have some vigor or endurance regeneration stuff you can dodge more and that is enough.

But that condition spam… yeah. Getting annoying. I mean it is not only immobilize. They also apply other conditions after it so it might not be easy to cleanse it for all classes.


Knock them down first! Engineer: Rifle 4, Big Ol’ Bomb, Mines, Battering Ram. Okay. It’s not knockdown – most only “launch” and some “knockback”. But still good… if it’s not too many vets or stronger at same time.

Most of them barely last long enough to start a single attack before the mob is back up, and they have cooldowns measured in x10s of their effect duration (never mind that the rifle one is a self-knockback, woho on a thin walkway!).

Yeah, it depends on the situation. That’s why I said “not too many vets”. Champs of course it won’t work most of the time they are immune to such stuff. But with all your CC and rifle immobilize you can have a single vet CCed permanently if he is not immune(even some vets or normal mobs are because of their “race” – like thos big tree things in some mobs that are neutral until you attack them). If he is melee only it works best – you take no damage then. If more other mobs nearby you need to be more careful. Works better in group then with other players and can support by disabling the dangerous mobs while not doing too much damage… but other players can clean other smaller mobs and then focus on that vet(or elite).

Wow, Millenium shows a lot of PPT for FS. When I remember back then the gap between us from UW and them was not that big(or we were even a little bit stronger). Hurts to see that. Definitely not fun – more fun against Desolation where you know they have been stronger than you all the time. That can’t be only the guilds that left us. Must also be that FS gained some people… (at least for the weekend). I won’t play that much, this matchup. Done with the achievements and I played too much the other matches and still can’t get used to playing on green. Since we are back to red already at next matchup I might just skip this week. (I hope they are doing more changes in colors if they plan a season 2… 4 weeks in red then suddenly green just can’t get used to this when we were all the time on red only defending and never saw green area – to dark here).

Yeah. Solo is okay. I played engineer 20/0/30/20/0 with traited bombs(increased radius, increased damage, healing bombs) + elixirs(cd reducing).

Used elixir to convert boons to conditions(good against immobilize and bleeeding and stuff but the last Aetherblade with every auto attack confusion spam was still annoying).

+ Rifle. Rifle has CC. Good ol’ Bomb has CC. Nice in fights with more than 1 mob so you can keep them away a bit from you. Also you can run in circles and bombs easily hit especially with bigger radius from trait.

Molten with portals you can kill 2 mobs + vet, then portal so they won’t spawn all same time. Then easy to clear the room. Don’t know if they respawn while portal still is up but then only the 3 from the one portal that is up should respawn(then you might try damage portal until almost destroyded, kill the mobs and then fast kill the portal). So no more then 2 + 1 vet.

Aetherblade confusion guy was most annoying cause he just spams it. Like every auto attack 2 stacks confusion. Even condition cleanse not helping that much. Safed elite supply crate for him for additional heals(do other waves before him without elite).

Last boss is easy. Only kill adds first they are annoying. Don’t think they respawn often. Most of the time only after he changes form every 25 percent. Toxic stalk in the mid not even a problem with traited elixirs and alot fast heal and bandages from elite.

Does it really depend on how many players are injecting antitoxin? I always thought bar progresses by a fixed amount each day – like with all the other events in the past.

Is there a dev post on this so we can be sure?

I mean what if it isn’t finished in 2 weeks… they can’t bring the next event then. And I’m sure they already have plans. Would be a bad idea to make it dependent on how many players to stuff there.

Also is it per server then(detecting which server is home server of the player that started the instance)? Or total count(like with the support badges for Ellen Kiel and Even Gnashblade back then).

But there is no real reason other than achievements. Either you go there cap stuff – no enemies… boring.

Or you get steamrolled by enemy zerg or steamroll some other small groups with own zerg = boring.

Or some smaller group fights which are balanced(which is rare usually even at smaller groups it is 5-10 vs 2-3) which could be fun… but then again… there is already WvW which is much better for this. Everyone same gear. And better objectives than only standing in circle which takes ages to fill(much faster there).

It honestly is more fun and rewarding to stay in EB in a tower speedin Dolyaks and scouting – when being able to take some merc camp for additonal achievement sometimes while you are there or fighting some roamer that tries to cap your nearby supply camp.

(Or maybe staying at the camps or Dolyaks at borderlands). At least you are on the move a bit more instead of staying in the circle. And there are better events(merc camp event reward a little bit and I think the supply camps defensive events also give rewards).

Maybe… maybe it could something that only starts if you control “too much”. If on EB a team owns more than his corner it could start to affect them. To prevent them from controlling evem more stuff…

But that would need a lot of people that stay back per objective. So their zerg gets smaller. And that would be boring for the people staying back.

Atm most boring subachievement from the season achievements. Going there… then having to wait ages until the objective is capped. And not even a reward.

It’s boring and no rewards and taking too long.

Should be more like sPvP. Faster capping than it is now. Then it should stay capped(no decay). + Really fast decap by an enemy if someone attacks.

Maybe add few copper – like sentries. Only small reward. Maybe only if enemies are killed nearby while attacking or defending to prevent farming(lol who would farm even if there was 1-2 silver per event without having to kill enemies – there are still better ways and with no decay you would need some enemies to walk around there).

Still waiting for a repair skill on those keep upgraded sieges. I mean a skilled attacker could just have some roamers attack them all to 1 hp and you can’t repair. Then they come with zerg. Destroy them. Attacking the objective… and of course there is no new build site respawning cause it takes time.

Yeah: Either make them invulnerable. Let us repair(my preferred option) or let build sites respawn immediately.

Repair would be best. Just give an additional skill while using the weapon that takes away some supply. And let it only be used when not in combat so you can’t counterrepair it immediately while attacked.

Also cannons need to be a bit higer… sometimey they have very limited angle. You move them a bit to the left and they hit the wall they are mounted on instead of shooting to the target more away. Should be usable 360 degree.

Yeah. That huge zerg was pretty fun. Just came back from doing Living Story a bit with my build changed for that and wanted to show the new mini. But no people online at UW since it’s week and night and most sleep.

And then that huge zerg with Golem lol. 1 would have been enough. I guess some people need achievement and made themselves golems for demolition achievement. It’s cheaper in supply than always building new rams… but 1 would have been enough.

Rhyme or Reason on key drops?

You should mainly try running chambers and events(champs there). Chests often drop the keys. Don’t know if the chest after event usually is event chest or from the killed champ by rarity loot displayed as chest. But I often get keys from events.

Also buy at the merchant the ones missing only. Might still not be enough to get an equal number of all of those keys but it’s random. That’s just how it is.

And yes they can drop from all floors afaik. Only some have higher chance on the floor/level mentioned in the description I think.

Matchmaking Post-Season 1?

Yeah old matchmaking was better. The way the rewards work they only reward best coverage server that never can be beaten no matter how much YOU play or how good. You can’t do much… unless a ton of people with different time zones transfer to your server.

This should not be rewarded. Should be more rewards on the individual performance – since individuals are rewarded.

If you want to reward the servers then make some server optical stuffy only. Like adding some trees to their keeps and stuff like that. So it’s permanent on the server.

Don’t want another league where some people get rewarded for doing nothing – just going WvW to farm the achievements for key. Then off for the rest and let the coverage win the league to get good rewards where others on other servers fought a lot more and get less rewards probably(I hope they don’t mess it up and make the differences not too big… some finisher is okay but other stuff should not be too different). Feels like you have been trolled then by rewarding system. Lol.

I like how the upscaling sucks. PvE you can do them with zerg. WvW you can solo fast. If zerg is in merc camp – even if they do stuff – it won’t progress fast enough. Feels like you’d need 1000 powder kegs then. (Without zerg like 10 maybe… and with zerg it should be 100 but then they should also spawn mor frequently… you know there is a time limit).

Pretty annoying those guys. I usually try to solo the event to get them away. But you know upscaling sometimes prevents it.

Yeah. I read it in some other thread already. Seems heavily bugged and not intended since most other runes have internal CD even on some totally weak stuff. They probably did not have in mind that some classes can use interrupt very often and therefore forgot to put an internal CD. If interrupt were more rare so you there was no class that could use them more than 1 each 20 seconds then no CD would be needed.

Maybe they also could change it like Guardian Symbol of Swiftness: Only applies swiftness if there is no swiftness at target(at least undil Dec 10 when they’ll change it).

Only apply confusion if there is no confusion on the target. Then it could stay with 10 seconds internal CD only. Use it again after 10 seconds to reapply. But only if you haven’t applied confusion with some other skill.

Points on capture instead of tick

The problem is: It would just reward capping and recapping even more. You get karma and stuff already. Would be even more if you farmed it. Then just before matchup ends(all are at even points cause of capping and recapping) you defend 1-2 hours and win.

I still would like to see a system where upgraded objectives give more PPT – to reward defending more.

So whats the problem? EU Silver League weak server Underworld: 2nd server in matchup has twice the overall score than us from UW. Each matchup. 1st and winnning server in the matchup 3 times the amount of score. We still have fun.

Which alliance is next?

So we had Molten Alliance, Toxic Alliance and some smaller groups like Aetherblade. But it seems Scarlet likes to manipulate people into alliances.

What do you think will be the next alliance?

I want Karka x Zephyrite Alliance. Lol. And then making some Hybrid. Huge Karka x Human thing that can – despite being that huge – move fast with aspects power. Then a map like Sanctum Sprint with that boss at end where you need to sprint up fast and destroy him before he finishes a ritual that makes him too strong so he could devour the whole world.

On the way up “small” champs will try to knock you down.

Trololololol. Best post. Yeah he probably was busy doing WvW training – like yesterday when he said “we are doing some training but defending our corner if needed”. Then he talked staying in spawn… I think we lost 1 tower. Then later he is in blue corner and someone reporting early on Mendon getting attacked(was reinforced and fortified but not much siege but still time to move zerg back to try defending). He still stays in blue corner. Trying do to his “training” taking some tower.

Mendon lost of course.

And then he complains about people not reporting accurately. A lot of commanders don’t care that’s why no one is reporting. And maybe that’s also why no one is upgrading. (Sometimes it works – then we have Ogrewatch, Keep and Veloka maxed pretty fast but yesterday it was slow…)

Does the final chamber always give a key?

Yeah, I can confirm it is one time reward. Mob drops are not that common for me. But I often(>50 percent chance for me) get keys from event chests/ champ chests drops. Or from the small chambers.

Thanks. Just buying the key parts I need atm. Most of the time I’m missing 1 color. I also can confirm that you can open it without CD. Takes a few seconds to close again so you can interact again and open it again if you still have keys left.

Reward for last instance – as confirmed in the linked thread – is one time only. Did this today a 2nd time and did not get another key to select from. But usually event chests and chests from small chambers often drop keys.

Does anyone know if some Dev commented on how long the merchand and spore samples will stay? This info is still missing. And I think a few other people asked this in different threads.

Out of 7 tries 3 normal mobs only. 4 times Tybalt. Lol. That 4 in a row. Tries 3-6.

All stuff unlocked by meta achievements + account bound should have unlimited uses an be in the tab with the achievement rewarded skins.

But they probably don’t want to do it because of the transmutation splitters that would be bought less then.

Other stuff: Random drops that are tradeable… that of course should be one time use. So you still can earn money when selling it. Or not tradeable but you still could get more… and they want you do to some random stuff.

Unlocked by achievements = one and only way to get 1 use of this skin. Should be multiple uses.

Didn’t pay attention to the cages and the names of the prisoners. Only saw Tybalt so far. But only playing on my main. So you probably get your mentor depending on the order you chose and Trahearne and the Destiny’s Edge guy from your race?

(Or do you still get them independent of your Order and race and then other dialogues)?

So I tried it again. Dont’ know why yesterday I had problems. Maybe there were more mobs in final instance in 1st story version with Kasmeer and Majory.

My 2nd try today it really was easy. Did not change my armor which is mostly power + some toughness, precision mix(not too glassy but still a bit low toughness). But changed a lot of traits. Engineer changing traits works big.

Just kiting with bombs lol..

Molten Alliance was not a big deal. Portal I think only spawns 2 normal + 1 vet and they dont respawn? Or at least only the 3 max from one portal respawn… I aoed with bombs 1 portal down and while doing so damaged the mobs… was not a big deal then and I could easily clear the room from all mobs by the end.

Biggest problem was last Aetherblade vet with confusion… just not that used to fight against confusion. I wasn’t careful and got downed but managed to rezz by throwing elixir before. (I should have been more careful with my other elixir I’m actually using the one that converts conditions into boons). So no real trouble if I were more careful.

Then last boss… loool. Seemed much easier than in my first try with other build in story version. Max 2 normal mobs + that boss… kiting with bombs to kill all of them staying out of damage most of the time(bomb radius increased) also lot of dodging from elixir that refills endurance(+ extra bombs on dodge from trait).

Hardest still to get up from 3rd level to top. But much easier with elixir and condition cleanse stuff. Also helps others.

Engineer: Elixirs + Bombs. My recommendation. Easy play. Not too much to aim like with grenades ha ha. I’m lazy. Easy achievement. Nice mini. Thanks ArenaNet. Doing some more stuff and running with zerg to help others then. And farm a bit.

Noticed I got a high drop chance on keys from event chests or small chamber end chests. So it’s worth running with the event people.

Is this random? Or is this fixed in certain chambers and you only need for them to open? I only had Tybalt(probably depends on the Order you joined). But I want to see Trahearne too lol.

Any other special stuff than these 2?

I’ve heard you can get Logan and Rytlock and the like, but I haven’t seen them yet, either.

Out of 5 times 3 times I got Tybalt. Lol. Yesterday my 3rd try was Tybalt. Today 2 tries: 2x Tybalt.

Why would you want to ignore roamers when they kill your Dolyaks and stuff? If they want to roam without getting steamrolled they can roam in PvE maps. If they go WvW they should not complain about zergs. Yes usually it is not efficient to use the whole zerg and run after them(especially if they run a lot). But then people from ther zerg server should complaing about themselves and their commanders becaseut the commander uses the whole zerg for stuff that less people could do(while zerg could do more useful things in that time).

Reminds me of some other game where someone called himself “runningman” any mastered running away from others to only distract the whole enemy team. (Some teamgame 16 vs 16 players and it’s always a win if 1 can keep 4 others busy that do nothing then taking ages to kill him).

New idea: Add queue mastery! We still have more than 9k ranks and only about 13xx ranks needed to max all mastery atm I think. So we need more mastery.

Does anet hate glass builds?

Of the stuff mentioned by OP I only have the golem. Deleted other stuff. Cause it seems useless now. (And if they make future releases they give you different stuff cause it would be unfair if only people with the old stuff could play it).

Golem only cause it spawns and says stuff each time. So it still does something. (But haven’t checked now that Halloween achievements are removed – if it does nothing now then I’ll delete it as well)

It probably depends on how much you need/want that additional condition duration. Maybe you can leave some other stuff like traits or giver’s weapon and use other stuff there – if you want a build with long condition duration.

I also want Faren. Lol’d at that latest cutscence. He is good for funny stuff cause he thinks he is great and strong and can protect the women. But then he is weak and needs you to rescue him. Lol.

I’d prefer if they could make this for all account bound stuff you only can get from achievements. – not for random account bound drops(if there are any – usually that stuff is tradeable) since they want to farm you more there.

Thread should be in the other forums for the latest release. (the nightmare within).

It’s a technically more difficulty to implement porting(for the priory – ingame). Probably because of the mobs and the toxin stuff. So it can be explained ingame why the porting cost is higher. (It still is annoying).

And then you still have to run from 3rd level to top: But this can be explained: They want players to still do this because this is hardest to solo – and if later nobody is going there anymore players that start to do stuff in a few days would have problems.
