I consider myself as a world exploration expert (I have 9 PvE world completion and a last character I need to work on but I don’t like her )

Two things :

  • You’re right, it seems confusing. To be frank I haven’t captured beasts for this heart since my very first character but from what you said and what I remember it seems like you can use the capture skill as soon as the beast is weakened, looks like pokemon :p
  • Never capture beast for this heart, fight in the pit. If I’m a new player and find the rifle part stupid then I’ll look at other objectives in the heart description et voilà You said it is broken but never a problem here ever : walk in, select any difficulty (doesn’t matter), kill stuff, get out, repeat.

C: I need my character to look good in my eyes, huge part of my pleasure since I’ll be looking at it for hours.

E: I enjoy mostly three things : noticing how my personal skills at the game are progressing, seeing a group work well together (especially if I built that group myself like with GW1 heroes) and seeing someone progress after you’ve just taught him/her how to do.

Connection between dragons and gods

I see, I had no idea of the actual timeline of the gods or about the Norn’s perspective on the matter.

You seem to be really passionate about the lore and I wish I could get my facts straight, is there any read you could suggest me in order to do so ?

Connection between dragons and gods

in Lore

Posted by: Lyndis.4653

Lyndis.4653

  1. Primordus is no leader, no more than any other Elder Dragon. The Elder Dragons are not enemies, per se, but they are not allies. Primordus was merely the first to wake up. And Balthazar isn’t the leader of the Six Gods – Dwayna is.

I bet the dragon’s relationship with each other might be close the god’s : well known entities of the same kind that will not interfere with each other unless needed (Grenth and Dwayna confront each other every Windersday for instance).

You’re right, Balthazar is no leader but I’m not sure Dwayna is, I tried to check and read that she was the first to come to Tyria but no mentioning of any leadership.

  1. “Kralkatorrik=Lyssa” – you’re not the first to suggest such, however, aside from the color purple (which Abaddon also shares) there is no real tie between the two. Lyssa is purple, yes, but she is beauty and illusion; Kralktorrik is crystal and lightning. Hardly a similarity.

Lyssa is also chaos and non elemental energy, isn’t she ? I think Kralkatorrik could very embody those aspects.

  1. Mordremoth has no ties to animals, other than using them with parasitic-like plant minions (Mordrem Wolf and seemingly the new tall Mordrem in the trailer – looks like fungus is growing on some troll-like animal).

That’s already a tie IMO. He’s also related to animals in a way but in a different way.

  1. Dwayna has nothing associated with cold, so I’m not sure why you say “anything that is cold in GW1 lore although he shares that role with Dwayna”.

That was just my mistake : as I said, only my memories and those were from when I read the GW1 booklet in 2007

  1. There’s no connection between Jormag and Dwayna – people have tried suggesting that Jormag is wind, not ice, because of blizzard and he’s in the mountains, but this is false as his corruption takes form as ice. And yes, Dwayna is air, but she’s related to soothing air, and warmth. She brings an end to coldness (she brings spring after winter).

This is the point that really matters I think, this link really holds no water indeed :/

  1. The DSD does have noticeable impact on the world. As drax pointed out, it was the DSD that pushed the krait, quaggan, largos, and karka into Tyria.

My bad and thank you for correcting me again

  1. You used Grenth earlier, but now you use Abaddon. This doesn’t really work. Because Kormir has no ties to water – Lyssa took that when Kormir ascended. If you use Abaddon, you should be using Dhuum, who has no ties to ice and whom you ignore completely yet you choose to ignore Kormir because “she was here way too late to have anything to do with elder dragons.”

There’s probably a mistake in the beginning because it doesn’t make sense. Abaddon has nothing to do with Grenth or Dhuum so I don’t really what is the problem here. I don’t mention Dhuum because his powers were transfered to Grenth so it is probably close to being the same aspect, their difference is more a matter of personality.

  1. On that note: ALL gods were here “way too late to have anything to do with elder dragons”. The Six Gods arrived on Tyria well after the Elder Dragons fell asleep. The Elder Dragons predate the Six Gods by tens of thousands of years (the Six Gods arrived after they fell asleep last time, but the Elder Dragons have had at least two previous awakenings – putting them to be at least 20,000 years old, if not 30,000 years old at least).

I had no idea about that, thanks

Thanks to your corrections I can see how there cannot be such straight connections but only Dwayna/Jormag is completely irrelevant IMO, all other associations are still legitimate to me.

If I wanted to go further I could try to tie Dwayna with Zhaitan : goddess of life and a dragon that can bring life to dead bodies… Grenth’s ice aspect would match Jormag. But I see how far the connections would be and won’t try to defend that^^

That was a refreshing lore lesson for me, very interesting ! I’ll keep these ideas and information in mind in the future releases

Very interesting answer, thank you very much ! Especially for your correction on those two points

Of course the links are not that strong but I still find them too strong to be totally dismissed. I find them good as antagonists and that could explain the differences : they are playing on the same field as their associated god but with different goal/ethics.

Connection between dragons and gods

in Lore

Posted by: Lyndis.4653

Lyndis.4653

It has probably been said way before this post but since I can’t search for it I’ll just grab opinions here^^

There are 6 human gods and 6 elder dragons and each dragon can be associated with a god. Sometimes it is obvious and their magical effects are really close. Here’s an association proposition :

  • Primordius : Balthazar, super obvious. He is the god of (among other) fire and the leader, Primordius seems to be the leader too.
  • Kralkatorik : Lyssa, I think it is obvious too. His impact left purple shiny magical effects everywhere, some plants are even doing mini chaos storms.
  • Mordemoth : Melandru. She is the goddess of the wild and its big creatures, plants and animals alike, there couldn’t be a better fit.

The next ones are less obvious but can still make sense.

  • Zhaitan : Grenth will be my choice here although it is not that easy. Grenth is also associated with water and ice, anything that is cold in GW1 lore although he shares that role with Dwayna. The thing is, he is the best fit for Zhaitan IMO since Dwayna cannot fit and Abbadon has nothing to do with death.
  • Jormag : Dwayna. Maybe it is a long shot, Dwayna can be associated with ice since she is Grenth’s mother and the goddess of air (cold air makes ice if there is water ?) but it’s far from being a perfect match, I would have said Bubbles if I didn’t prefer Abbadon for it.
  • Bubbles : Abbadon. This is the only dragon we know nothing about and Abbadon was the god of secrets and water… This is the only god that is officially deceased and this is the only dragon that has close to no impact on the world today. I think I’ve read that some species had to flee from the deep sea but it could be the work of Zhaitan or Jormag IMO. So it either fits the secret aspect perfectly or is as dead as its associated god.

I’ll leave Kormir out of the equation : she was here way too late to have anything to do with elder dragons.

Now what should we think of this ? Are elder dragons evil forms of the gods who disappeared to turn into dragons ? Are they there antagonists that were defeated and sealed within Tyria ? Maybe that is how the gods brought magic to Tyria in the first place.

Your thoughts ?

PS : sorry I didn’t check every lore aspect before posting, it’s just my memory speaking so if I made any mistake please correct me !

Soulbound has indeed no reason to be transferable even though it is technically possible to do so via transmutation splitter (I actually lost quite a bit of money when I transfered ascended items before they were account bound :’( ).

That being said I would really like soulbound on aquire to be completely removed from the game and the only action soulbinding an item to be equipping it (not unintuitive pointless actions like putting a rune on the item).

I’ve never looked into the GW2 API so I wouldn’t know.

They are not triggered at a constant time of the day like WB as far as I know, more something like triggering the defense event x min after the capture and triggering the capture chain x min after the fall of the temple.

If I had the answers I wouldn’t be asking how to get those events^^

I have to say I seriously hate ideas based on “karma/exp/gold/mf buffs”. This kind of rewards is not gonna cut it. Seriously what will it be ? Do 5 events for 10% mf or 10% gf ? Gold is almost never dropped anyway…

Event shouldn’t be farmable as they can be at the moment (coil farm) but explain to me how wandering in an area doing every event you come by shouldn’t be a viable farming method ?

There are actually two kind of acceptable answer IMO and both are not mutually exclusive :
-Gold reward : just because this game is so centered around gold, giving more is naturally making events attractive. Gold could be about ten times higher than it currently is without being too problematic (that’s 8 to 30s basically : you need 6 events minimum to give as much gold as an AC path, chances are it will still be less interesting).

-Exclusive skins tied to events : something like a reputation system tied to either a region or an area that gives you access to exclusive skins bought with karma. You could earn a title (maguuma defender) when reaching the max reputation and access to skins.

Hey there, just for the record I’m not a complete and total noob

I usually do a random dungeon rotation for my daily farm that depends on my mood and the skins I feel like unlocking (I’m working towards the dungeon collections).

I might also do fractal runs (29/37/49, sometimes all of them) to try and get fractal skins.

I am writing here for two reasons : it gets repetitive and it doesn’t feel very rewarding compared to the effort.

I read that open world farm could net you more gold per hour and I’m interested in that because I’m tired of taking the time to find a party, explaining the run to the beginners that might join, being stressed by possible tensions that can arise and so on. I’ve always liked temple events and I read that’s one kind of viable open world farm. I like it a lot because I know I wouldn’t do champion trains more than 10min before dying from boredom. Also I could use all my alts for temples so I could even diversify my classes^^

My actual question is here : how do you actually get an temple event ?

Anytime I go to Orr they are all done are close to. I can’t ever find a “temple farm” group on LFG, I can’t choose my server anymore… I have no clue how you can reliably choose to farm temples. Tell me your secret ! :p

In my opinion gameplay and rewards are at least equally important. For instance fractals are arguably the most interesting activity gameplay wise but their rewards have always been a problem and I have trouble getting any guild mate into them.

I agree most events are too easy but they are also designed to be manageable by leveling character so you have to keep that in mind also.

I completely disagree about their current rewards : this is not the maximum they could give in their current state. Why is that ? Well the most obvious proof is that noone has ever used events to farm as one would do dungeons : the rewards are quite negligible. Even though they are easy they still take time, if that time goes unrewarded then they are not worth doing except the first time to discover the lore aspect of it.

I personnally dream that someday I’ll be able to casually earn my life exploring areas looking for events… This is the kind of solo play I’d love for this game with some added JP (which could also use some more rewards). Someday maybe…

Harmonious mantra bugged ?

I think you might be right.

I definitely ruled out the use a of charge being the cause as I was not able to reproduce it reliably, I probably used a charge while changing level area while exploring^^

That said I noticed that using a waypoint could have that effect and I guess that’s because of the level scale changing.

There’s definitely something up, has this bug already been reported ? The search function of these forums seems totally dysfunctional :/

Harmonious mantra bugged ?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Lyndis.4653

Lyndis.4653

Hi, I’m posting here because I am not sure whether this is already known and reported or not.

I was doing some exploration with my mesmer yesterday and noticed that some of my mantras were down to 2 charges while I didn’t use them (I’m quite sure because you almost never use your healing skill while exploring) : the only commonly used mantra was resolution and both healing and concentration were consistantly at 2 charges.

After further testing it looks like it follows this behaviour : if I have 3 mantras at 3 charges, using a charge will bring down the two others to 2 charges. I still need to test it further today to see if it is consistantly behaving this way or not.

Any similar observation ?

Hi I’m willing to bring attention to this spear skin that appears to be bugged : it seems the weapon’s position is not right, always too high or far forward.

I have trouble finding the right words in english so I’ll join pictures showing the issue.

At first I thought it was a feature of the skin (even though I didn’t like that feature) but since the weapon is also moved when sheathed I’ve come to wonder whether this is a bug or not.

This makes wearing the skin really weird and I’d really appreciate it was a bug that could be fixed, if it is actually a feature of the skin then I’m just sad ^^’

Some feedback on collections

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lyndis.4653

TP manipulation being the most efficient PvE activity always saddens me but it’s another discussion. But the analogy with D3 is really accurate in that matter :/

I agree that skins would be a really fitting reward too. Not necessarily new skins but “exotic skin of choice” boxes should probably be a more common reward.

The more I think about it the more I find rewards to be really really underwhelming for most collections : those are one time rewards, no need to be shy about them. They should be around the same level of achievements rewards IMO.

Some feedback on collections

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lyndis.4653

Lyndis.4653

Concise version : I think it is a good system but I don’t like the way it has been tailored, especially the interest vs reward aspect.

Giving players collections goals/subgoals is great as sooner or later that is all that matters in PvE. I love having these collections as a feeling of progression : I just did the same dungeons I did a month ago (before D3 break) and this time it felt like I was actually getting towards a goal, cool.

What I hate is how rewards can be off. A shiny example is the spoon collection : there’s a 40 laurels and 50 ecto spoon to collect (or 200 WvW tournament tickets) while the reward seems to be beginner stuff (from the description).

Now don’t get me wrong : it’s okay for skin unlock’s collection not to grant much because the skins are already a reward. But collections like spoons’ should pay for themselves and not just be another way to reap players’ resources for no good reason !

Another thing annoying me on the rewards is the profusion of common ascended materials : empyrean/bloodstone/dragonite/vision cristal are the easy part of ascended crafting and are currently the biggest storage issue as far as I’m concerned so please stop using these as a reward. I think anyone likely to complete collection will feel those rewards as a penalty, that’s how I feel about them anyway.

Karmic converter and personal instance chest are great rewards though, that’s the kind of stuff you should try to put on most collection rewards IMO.

Thoughts ?

Sadly some events just scale way too badly with number of players.

Temple of Lyssa is good example : the fastest Lyssa priestess kill I ever did was with 4-7 people. When there are 50+ people fighting the event becomes a horrible lag fest that lasts forever and the only thing I want at this point is to find a defense event to go to.

Honestly if done correctly leeching this way can be helpful, weirdly enough. I agree this is toxic behaviour, especially when claiming it and staying on the event area. But that being said, this behaviour wouldn’t even happen if events length stayed roughly the same with more players or at least didn’t expand that badly.

-The locket at fort Concordia.
-Scarlett already tried to assassinate her and was most likely controlled by Mordemoth.

I wouldn’t mind Trahearne dying : his hunt is completed, he is an Orr specialist, not that useful as far as other dragons are concerned and he is not that great of a general : he did what he could because he had to but that’s about it. If Mordremoth thinks like me I’d say he’s not in great danger ^^

Phantasmal warden issue

in Mesmer

Posted by: Lyndis.4653

Hello there, I recently decided to create a new mesmer so I could play as a cute little asura instead of a classic human as I created during launch.

While leveling my new mesmer I noticed that phantasmal warden (focus phantasm) tends to not start its attack at all quite often (10-20% of the time maybe) and I almost never had this issue with my human mesmer.

So my questions are : is this a race related bug or due to a recent patch affecting phantasm AI ? Should I report it or is it already well known ?

EDIT : Sorry I used the wrong name, I don’t use english texts IG ^^’ I meant illusionary warden but I think it’s clear.

I like the biconics more than DE right now for the following reasons :

-DE was really doing well before we meet them, in the book’s story. In the game all we see about them is a broken alliance and constant arguments most of the time. They basically feel whole only in the last dungeon story IMO.

-The biconics are actually useful in combat or at least they feel active. All I remember of DE is that I had to rez them all the time in the various dungeons while I barely saw their actions during the battle.

-They have a mesmer and a necro, the iconic class of GW and my favorite class in GW1.

Drops still count though and they have no daily limitation unlike dungeons.

Should we remove merchants too ?

I couldn’t really tell if dungeons have a bad impact on the economy or not. What I know for sure is that they are helping non-flipping player a lot because they lower the value of fixed cost items like cultural armors.

Btw I still consider harvesting to be generating gold : it is generating wealth in the form of materials but since they are in bigger number they cost less so the overall prices are lowered and a fixed amount of gold has more value which is the same thing as a bigger amount of a lower value gold.

Anyway if you want to convince me dungeons are ruining the economy you’ll need a solid proof. I’m not saying they’re not but you don’t really make a point IMO.

Collaborative Development: Ranger Profession

in CDI

Posted by: Lyndis.4653

Lyndis.4653

Specific Game Mode
PvE

Proposal Overview
Rework on utilities and traits.

Goal of Proposal
Most ranger’s traits and utilities have so little impact that you feel like your actual number of options excessively limited for a profession that is supposed to be versatile.

Proposal Functionality
You have to seriously consider any trait and utility skill (actually some weapons too) in a PvE environment and understand how useful they become. I can give you examples and explain what’s wrong but I cannot give suggestions for replacement because I have no knowledge of the 2 other environments.
Signet of stone/the wild : decent passives but the actives have a very short uptime with huge cooldowns for so-so effects. As a result, those signet, if ever used, are almost only for their passives i.e. not actually a skill.
Protect me : likely to kill your pet, losing damage from your pet and huge cooldown while I can’t really see a situation where a dodge wouldn’t be a better option, why should I use this ?
Search and rescue : huge cooldown for an unreliable rez, you can rez without a skill so if you want to use your pet and a skill instead it should be interesting to do so, not less effective.

I could go on and particularly on traits but it’d be way too long. I think you really have to do this yourselves.

Associated Risks
The difference between PvE usefulness and other modes’ might be really huge and you might find yourself in a lot of trouble to give every skill/trait something interesting for PvE. That being said, as many skills/traits are (at least to me) in a need of rework for PvE, it should be easy to find space to add options for the PvE ranger.

CDI- Fractal Evolution

in CDI

Posted by: Lyndis.4653

Lyndis.4653

Sorry I was probably not as concise as I should have but I felt like I had to justify my statements. Please make fractals a better place !

Proposal Overview
Rewards reworked in order to make fractals appealing.

Goal of Proposal
Right now fractals are the most interesting content but are quite unsatisfying : people experienced in fractals are not rewarded enough for playing high level and people new to fractals have no real incentive to start as the first rewards are basically less gold than dungeons and tools to get higher in fractals.

Proposal Functionality
The idea here is to make rewards more consistent (instead of some sort of a time gamble) and appealing, getting closer to the dungeon model.

About gold : gold rewards do not need to go up the roof but it’d be better for them not to be insulting. The difficulty and time difference between a lv1 and a lv50 is worth way more than 50s. You should probably aim for a 2-4g total at lv50 and a linear progression so that any step further in fractals feels like an actual progress. Another good way to change gold rewards could be to give smaller amounts at the end of each fractal rather than everything after the boss : that way longer fractals can be less frustrating as they are more rewarding and failing to end for whatever reason wouldn’t be the end of the world.

About exclusive rewards : fractal weapons’ art is gorgeous and deserves an armor set. What players deserve however is a consistent way to obtain fractal gear. Fractal relics and pristine relics are failing as a reward because they are not giving access to actually interesting things. Offering fractal gear for those, even for high amounts (1000-1500 relics for a dual handed weapon ?) would make those actually attractive and fractal gear hunting less frustrating. Think of these as a dungeon reward system.
Ascended weapons and armors are a nice drop but since they are rare and you have no control over the stats you are getting it is almost negligible as a reward (you’re likely to be already geared when playing fractals).

Associated Risks
More players wanting to play fractals ? Happier fractal regulars ? Seriously though a problem could be a fractal gear trivialization, but if a fractal piece of equipment requires enough fractal relics while those relics are getting especially easy to obtain at the highest levels I think it’s just fair. On the other hand, players like who played tons of fractals but could never find a skin for my profession will be able to show they’re fractal runners.

My point is, this isn’t so hard. It just takes patience and I’ll bring that character out of the box again next weekend, depending on what color we get in the match up.

Read my post again and you’ll realize I never even used the word “hard”. I just said I hated it. Why do I hate that part ? Because I cannot decide when I can complete a solo achievement, because I have to pay attention constantly about a game mode that I hate, because anytime I do something else I risk missing an opportunity.

I know how to use color rotation etc, that doesn’t make it a better idea to force people into WvW.

Btw please stop comparing this achievement with JP or diving goggles, the comparison doesn’t stand because there’s no diving goggles in WvW and because JP works the same way world map completion does : it’s mostly PvE and yet you have to torture yourself into WvW to get to the even more terrible idea that are the JP laying around there. You want a real comparison ? What if you couldn’t get a WvW distinction (a title or rank for instance) unless you’ve also completed every dungeon paths with that character ?

Even if you don’t think it’s that big of a deal, when the bright side is hardly existing and the downside a real issue for some players you have to admit it should change. Because you’re also “forced” into PvE to get this PvE achievement doesn’t mean it should stay as is, it means it should change for you too.

To me world completion is the only enjoyable and profitable solo activity in this game and having its final part being dependent on server status/wvw matchup/other players is just terrible.

You want PvE-ers to get interested in WvW ? Well this is not the proper way. If anything it made me hate WvW for no good reason.

Fractal tiered selection is flawed

Well I was doing lv48 daily before the fractal update, now I’m still finishing to level up again, I’m at 43 right now but I have already defeated the grawl shaman at level 50, not that big of a deal…

Harpies is not really hard, but still easily harder/longer in my eyes than thaumanova/aetherblade/molten for instance : it requires some coordination to get through jump phases, the fight against ettin+fire is always tiring, the first cat golem once again requires coordination (or safe spot strat) and the 4 last golems can be troublesome with not that great PUGs while the mad asura can wreck people without enough AR as soon as reflections wear off.

Fractal tiered selection is flawed

Since PvE section is yet to be found I’ll post that here.

My aim here is to explain why the current way fractals are picked is not filling its role. It has probably already been said but I didn’t see it so I’m writing this just in case it is not already clear to devs.

The aim of this system was to avoid players having the possibility to get multiple long fractals in a single run, basically to avoid having 2nd and 3rd fractals to both be long and/or hard.

There are two issues about tiered fractal selection : the dual tiered fractals and some misplaced fractals.

I) Dual tiered fractals

The fact that dual tiered fractals exist is not an issue in itself but the way they are currently used is just working against the initial goal.

Let’s take an example : your second fractal is a dual tiered tier2/tier3 fractal. That means this fractal is rather hard/long for a tier 2 fractal and rather easy/short for a tier 3 fractal. So picking this fractal as a second fractal means you get a harder 2nd fractal and you are less likely to get an easier fractal as a third. Basically it is a loss-loss scenario.

What should be done : if you get a harder 2nd fractal, you should be getting an easier 3rd. A proper way to use dual-tiered fractal could for instance be “if you get a tier2/tier3 fractal as a second fractal, your third fractal should also be tier2/tier3”.

II) Misplaced fractals

No need for long explanations here, as someone who plays fractals quite a lot, I can tell you some fractals are not where they should be, let’s take a look at the current tiers :

T1 : Underwater, Swamp
T1/T2 : Harpies, Ascalon
T2 : Svanir, Molten
T2/T3 : Colossus
T3 : Aetherblade, Grawls, Thaumanova, Dredges

First things first : harpies’ fractal is not that easy and is really really long, this is in no possible way tier 1 material. To be honest I find it easier and quicker to do Thaumanova or aetherblade fractal rather than either harpies or Ascalon. So my point here is : t1/t2 fractals are seriously misplaced and no party will ever want to start with them except for the added challenge (or because of a lack of awareness about rerolling the first fractal :x).

Another example : grawl fractal is not long, it might be hard but honestly once you know what you have to do (and what you have to not do ^^) it’s honestly not a bad fractal to get. So that’s probably way more t2/t3 material than colossus which is long no matter what and becomes hard-ish at high level. Actually Thaumanova and aetherblade are also t2/t3 in my eyes and colossus should be t3.

I’m not trying to be exhaustive, that’s just the most obvious examples in my eyes, I could be writing revised tiers but I leave that task to you devs if you think my point is valid.

T1/t2 fractals seems unneeded to me since people will almost always reroll the first fractal to get a shorter/easier one. An idea for this tier (if it is to stay) on next paragraph.

On a last note : dredges are just painful to play. I don’t care if some people say it can be done quickly. Actually quickly in dredge fractal means “only long, not very long”. Seriously it is long no matter how fast you get through its content and there is absolutely nothing about it, no fight, no puzzle, no strat, nothing that I enjoy about it. I even find the “landscape” to be ugly. I think this one should only be rolled if you had 2 short fractals before. This way t1/t2 fractals could be interesting : an anti dredge assurance !

That’s it, I hope the best for fractals in the future, please don’t be too hesitant to improve them !

It’s not really a good idea to try and compare like this IMO.

Elem has less health, less toughness, no pet. Playing MS as Elem means you use a staff which is determining your 20 weapon skills while Ranger only sets 5 of his 10 to be able to use barrage. Besides, as has been said, Elem doesn’t have control over the hits.

So as I said, comparing is probably a bad idea but if you want to compare there’s a lot more to take into account (I’m far from being exhaustive, I just wanted to show why I think the comparison shouldn’t be made).

If forums are changing then it’d be nice to have a PvE section. It fills odd to have PvP, WvW but no PvE which is just mixed in general GW2 and not completely covered : no fractal and no open world sections…

About the recent changes, it makes sense to me : suggestions will be way easier to use for them. And honestly those forums are mostly about complaining/being glad and suggestions in a form or another : either way it’s about giving feedback so let’s sort all form of feedback the same way.

I’ll be honest : I haven’t read a percent of your work. I looked at the pictures and grabbed some sentences here and there.

Why didn’t I ? I didn’t need to. I can see you put a lot of effort into it, you’re probably at least as passionate of GW1 as I am and I am truly happy to see that there are people crazy enough to go this far in their suggestions.

So basically I am pretty sure your ritualist concept is good and that I would love to try it. I won’t ever read your posts because it is time consuming and if the ritualist is to ever come one day I want to discover it at that time.

Transmutation issue, intended ?

I was convinced the problem was the infusion slots !

Thank you so much for your clarifications about the sigils, I never suspected that^^

Merry Christmas to you all

EDIT : I just finished using my splitters and wanted to warn you all. I couldn’t get all my weapons transfered because I didn’t know how already transmuted weapon would work with this. Just understand this : only the skin applied on the white item tells what weapon is remembered. If you transmute an ascended weapon with an exotic skin on a common weapon you’ll get the exotic weapon. Anyway I just have a single weapon to craft now, I can do this

Transmutation issue, intended ?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Lyndis.4653

So here is the thing.

I recreated a guardian because I wanted to change her race but had 5 ascended weapons on my former guard.

Since I want to do HL fractals I have to get those weapons on my new character so I wanted to do the following :

-transmute the ascended weapon “inside” a common weapon -> account bound common weapon
-use a transmutation breaker on this weapon on my character to get the ascended weapon soulbound for this character

But I was very surprised to see that an ascended weapon cannot be transmuted “inside” a common weapon : the tooltip is saying something like “the statistics item cannot receive that upgrade” (rough translation from french, sorry for that) and does not allow the transmutation to complete.

This leaves me with 5 unneeded transmutation splitters for the moment.

I already have a support ticket regarding this issue and the guy basically said “soulbound items are meant to be soulbound so you are on your own on this”. He offers to transfer my ticket to try and get a refund on the splitters though.

Now here comes my questions : is it intended for ascended weapons not to allow this technique or should I consider this as a bug ? I need an answer to decide whether I ask for a refund and restart crafting weapons or wait for this to be fixed.

I read some people saying they could transfer legendaries with this technique (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Transmutation_Splitter under discussion) and ascended are just fixed-stat legendaries so I wonder how this was possible. This wiki article is the reason why I bought those splitters and tried this in the first place

CDI- Character Progression-Horizontal

in CDI

I have trouble identifying what is exactly meant by horizontal progression but from what I read I should be on topic.

1) Armor skins

I think a huge issue for your artist right now is that they are somewhat forced to create 3 version of an armor set each time they want to create one (human/sylvari/norn, asura and charr versions). I feel like this is sometimes leading to forced odd results on some races as well as way harder/longer to create.

In the meantime you have the concept of cultural armor… see where this is going ? I strongly believe you should stop trying to make universal sets all the time (they’re still good if the set is well-suited to be universal) and maybe launch race-specific armors.

Maybe I’m wrong and your artists appreciate that but at least ask them how they feel about that ! Your armor skins were really really nice in GW1 and I can’t find as much diversity and as many armors I really want to wear so unless your whole artist team has changed I assume they’re having difficulties with multiple races.

2) Weapon skills.

Here comes an idea about opening build possibilities and strengthening trait importance.

Weapon skills are the biggest part of our skills since most utilities are specialized with sometimes long cooldown, elites are even worse in that regard (cf next point) and healing skills are just… well, healing^^. What if those weapon skills weren’t set in stones ?

Right now most weapon traits follow this pattern : “[weapon] skills recharge 20% faster and [effect] when wielding a [weapon]”. Sometimes the effect is interesting (mesmer focus for instance), sometimes it just feels meh (mesmer scepter ?). Besides, 20% recharge, while being effective, doesn’t feel that strong, it doesn’t feel like using this trait really enhances your abilities with a weapon.

Now here is the idea : I think traits allowing some new skills for a weapon would be great. Imagine this : one entire new set of skills for a weapon, without the trait you can only use “basic” skills but with the trait for each of the five skills you can choose an alternate skill (maybe several sets of skills with more trait ?). Those skills do not have to be stronger than the basic ones, they just need to offer another way to play the weapon. This also puts some pressure on traits : do you want weapon skills possibilities or recharge time ? do you want both ? how many trait points will it cost ?

3) Elite skills.

I won’t say too much here, I’ve seen others speak about it. In a nutshell : elite skills are mostly negligable in a build because of their long cooldown and short effects. Some examples of terrible elites and okay-ish elites so you can see how I see current elite skills :

-Guardian tomes : probably my least favorite elites right now. You lose your skills, can’t auto-attack, most of your skills are not that effective and everything feels slow. The only use I ever had for those were in HL fractals to restore everyone’s health and I hated to have to have that role, actually I used the fifth skill and then dropped the tome instantly.

-Mass invisibility : 5sec of stealth with long cast animation and 90sec cooldown. This can almost never be useful : if you need stealth, bring a thief, end of story. Thief has a utility with basically better everything but range, elites should be strong to justify a high cooldown and this one is just really weak.

-Polymorph moa : not sure about competitive modes but I have never seen this work on a boss and is not interesting on other monsters because they rarely live more than 10sec anyway and because 180sec cd is absurdly high.

Now some elites I like better :

-Renewed focus : the cooldown is high but at least the skill is clearly useful ! Whenever you can’t dodge a huge attack or can’t handle the pressure on you you can use this to retreat safely and recover your virtues.

-Basilisk venom : short cooldown ! The only elite skill that is likely to be used twice in a (non boss) fight ! The effect is interesting since it can disable a foe regardless of defiance stacks (unlekittenanged). And, last but not least, this skills can be severely enhanced through traits ! Probably the best designed elite skills in my opinion.

-Flesh golem : okay-ish cooldown that doesn’t matter too much because the golem can stay with you for a very long time. The golem is useful no matter what, doesn’t cost anything except an elite slot (I’d trade most of my elite slots for a golem :p) and its charge is fun ! Once again, can be enhanced through traits !

One can disagree on my opinion on those examples but I think everyone agrees we want elites to be included in our builds, not just a side skill to use sometime.

Partial lags

Lyndis.4653

Hi there, I’m experimenting some weird lags lately. They’re now part of my GW2 daily but I’d like to actually enjoy the game and not be a burden when disrupted by those.

What’s happening is that sometimes I just stop being able to use skills or interact with anything : my actions are not received by the server I suppose.
I can still move but my client’s position is no more relevant.
I can also see everyone else movements and used skills. Last time this happened I had no disconnection even though I was regularly unable to act for a whole minute if not more. That’s the weird part : everything else is very smooth.

A friend told me the issue was probably between my IAP and your server and there was nothing to be done about it. What do you think ?

Some clarifications would be appreciated

Hmm I didn’t understand this like that but that’d make sense. But this kind of malus can’t be too specific : “bleeds do not apply” for instance would just completely destroy a condimancer and you can’t tell people how they should play so if they malus they will probably not be so harsh.
