Weapon switch will not help at all for the killing objectives, it’s just for interactible objects.
In fact you want to be out of combat to use it in order to have no cooldown on the weapon switch.
If I transpose your question to interactibles : you cannot get credit multiple times using weapon switch. You cut the animation but the credit and the object despawn/desactivation still happens. It “just” allows you to move to the next objective immediately.
Also guardian is pretty good for exploring except for movement speed, I personally always run traveller’s runes on mine to solve this issue (except in raid ofc).
Two examples where weapon switch on interactibles shines :

I have completed central Tyria exploration 12 times and I have an actually nice tip for renown heart : use and abuse weapon switch.
What I mean by that is that a lot (the vast majority) of interactible objects for hearts can be canceled with weapon switch while they give credit at the start of their animations.
This technique can reduce the time needed for some hearts by a very substantial amount. The only limitation is that elementalist and engineers cannot use it.
Aside from interactible, on a case by case basis it is really good to know what part of the objectives are the most efficient and whether some of them can be done simultaneously or not. But this is not a knowledge that can be given because there are too many (303 ?) hearts to discuss them individually.
Obviously you want lv80 exo/asc zerk gear with full offensive build to trivialize as much as possible any “kill x” objective.
Events are obviously (as mentioned) speeding hearts but since you’ll just go from heart to heart that’s not really something you can exploit a lot, use events if there are when you’re doing them but that’s it.
As a side note : hearts will be more painful as a mesmer compared to other classes and you might want to avoid “kill x” objectives a little more if you’re playing one. If you have chronomancer specilization this doesn’t necessarily remain true.

Hi, I’m very very pleased with HoT so far ! Great job guys
That being said, I noticed I lost triple trouble achievements (the three where you have to kill the head of the wurms).
I absolutely hate this event and was really, really happy to never do it again. Please tell me it’s a bug ?
Q: This has already been mentionned but could you please consider increasing the amount of token a dungeon run requires or removing the daily limits to dungeon rewards ? This is just to make it more reasonable to complete collections without PvP.
Q: Are jumping puzzles considered in the rewards shifting ? Not necessarily gold but this is a lovely activity that sadly is barely rewarding anything, I would love to have JP has an option to find specific things !
I don’t mind too much if the gold rewards are nerfed even though I fail to see the point since not every dungeon does even manage to be worth the reward.
That being said, if gold is nerfed I sincerely hope it will mean that they will seriously reconsider the token rewards which in all honestly could use a 100% buff.
…
…
Calm down, I never said everything was bad in GW add-ons ! I’m not pretending to be able to do the comparison thoroughly nor to tell which one should be better.
I am just saying that the proposed comparison here is highly flawed and one shouldn’t give it too much credit.
The only people able to accurately estimate the worth of GW1 add-ons are the ones who played the game at the time and noone can really estimate the worth of HoT today (which is the main these pointless threads appear…).
You should rename the topic “A very flawed comparison for HoT”.
There are so many inacuracies and wrong comparison it feels like a completely biased attempt to discredite ANet’s work.
I mean you’re not even trying to be fair when you list “1 area” instead of an honest “Unknown”. If you want to compare things at day launch I’m afraid you actually have to wait HoT day launch to do so.
I can’t know if HoT will be packed with as much content as GW campaigns were and honestly I don’t care but this thread is just disrespectful.
To anyone who didn’t play GW1, you might want to know how many of the skills ended up being actually useful, how much time you spent per area, how little new guild halls mattered, how good the new PvP modes were, etc…
If you want to be smart by knowing the facts, you should probably not stop to the facts that support your view. The list of missing factors is quite large.
I think both crafting disciplines can easily have a purpose at lv500 without any issue. People believing it will not happen because it is not needed are just unimaginative IMO.
-Jeweller : alternative way to get ascended trinkets, ascended trinkets with visual effects (earrings, glows, whatever), ascended trinkets with switchable stats, …
-Chef : infinite-use food, food with visual effects, food with new effects (maybe more active ?), …
I think it’s not coming for now because :
-they haven’t decided/finalized what/how they wanted to do it,
-it’s not a high priority thing as long as HoT is still to be launched.
Does anyone know if the new cast times will also apply to our existing non-DH virtues?
That would be extremely annoying if so
No don’t worry about it, the virtues are only modified by the first minor trait in the Dragonhunter line so if you don’t trait DH you keep the old virtues.
What’s annoying is that you are forced to use them if you want to use anything else the DH is bringing.
To be clear : I have absolutely no issue with virtue of courage (F3) ! This one is obviously super strong. You can’t be disagreeing since I didn’t express any opinion on this one.
About virtue of justice : the blind’s range is actually more than enough since PvE is mostly melee anyway : it is not subpar but ranges from okay to OP depending on the encounter. This blind is not lost but I am afraid it might be delayed which could be annoying.
I don’t get why purging flames would be replaced because of the burn : you take purging flames for condition removal and fire field, not for the burning <_<
I am a little concerned about the changes to virtue of justice and virtue of resolution in PvE.
While I like the new effects on the skill I am worried that the delay that comes with the animations might be problematic :
-Virtue of justice is a source of blindness and delaying it will make this active defense less responsive.
-Virtue of resolution is a light heal and can be an anti condition, the delay is less of an issue but still annoying.
-In both cases the animations mean we are losing attack turns so it might also have a moderate impact on DPS.
Am I the only one seeing this as a problem and the changes as sidegrades rather than upgrades ? If so, please reassure me^^
Also don’t forget that the weapon size is dependent on your own size (or at the very least your race).
Eternity has also a longer hilt due to an additional effect, doesn’kitten
My own review of GW classes in PvE :
- Elementalist : I didn’t play it much but it has a ton of options. Monster armor in HM made them feel weak for a while, there was a change about that to nerf unconditional damage and I haven’t tested them since. I would say they are most likely great.
- Warrior : I always felt they were too slow because of the adrenaline mechanics, they were also nerfed by monsters’ armor for a while… I have never really had a good feeling as a warrior.
- Mesmer : very powerful class who benefitted a ton from its dedicated patch. I find it extremely fun and good to have in a party but not necessarily fun to play yourself. Try Panic, you won’t regret it (as they said “when we tested it, we knew we had a winner” x) )
- Ranger : a class I thoroughly enjoyed because of its versatility. Sadly it comes at the cost of having no really powerful build in PvE. If you want a class that can bring unsuspected tools to answer very specific situations, ranger might be your choice.
- Monk : one of the two class I enjoyed the most. Support in GW is relentless, extremely powerful : a good/bad monk can really turn the tide of a battle. With appropriate builds, NPC can do the job fine but playing as a monk is a true pleasure for me and PvE only skills (that NPC can’t have) are really amazing for monk. Just keep in mind that playing solo monk means that you rely on NPC to kill and that’s not always a good idea.
- Necromancer : unlike it’s GW2 successor, GW necro is king in PvE. Most will recommand a minion master build which I dislike (boring/stressful to play, situational). Playing as a curse necromancer was a ton of fun for me and I loved everything about my character (look and feel, versatility, effectiveness, …). That being said, I had to rely on PvE only skills and wouldn’t recommand hero necro (unless you like MM) : necrosis, finish him and pain inverter really shine on a necro bar.
- Assassin : if you want a melee DPS machine, assassin is what’s best for single targets (which matters a lot more than in GW2). Good look and feel, you’ll feel powerful playing assassin but you’ll also feel very fragile if your team doesn’t have a well rounded back line to support you. I wouldn’t recommand a hero assassin.
- Ritualist : ritualists are a really solid addition to a group, they not only add a decent amount of unconditional damage but also secondary targets for monsters to waste attack on (and kill themselves faster with pain inverter ). I would say ritualist is very effective (either defensively and offensively) but might become boring to play yourself after a while.
- Dervish : in the same vein as assassins, they are melee DPS kings but they are most AoE oriented. I found the class clunky in its first iteration but its revamp (the last balance patch of GW ? :‘( ) made it feel a lot better. It’s the last character I played for a while after “finishing” my ranger, necro and monk and had a great time. I wouldn’t recommand a hero dervish so if you’re interested by the class you should play it yourself.
- Paragon : this class is at the same time OP as hell and the worse class by far. It’s the class that was the more in the need of a patch but didn’t get one in the end. Basically it only has one viable build (and its variation) but this build is completely OP but at the same time extremely boring to play and can only be played by a human. Basically you can grant your team an insane damage reduction while doing nothing but spamming auto attacks and shouts. You’re weak to blinds and anti-adrenaline/anti-attack but when it works it can trivialize almost everything. I would not recommand it to anyone.
I hope this was helpful information, just remember it’s only my opinion
The only reason I am not playing GW1 today is because I have exhausted its whole content. And even then I had the intent to go through the game with new characters with a bunch of friend but they resigned
To the question “Is it worth buying ?” I would answer that it might be if you are not playing it alone. It was a fantastic multiplayer experience for all the cooperation needed in PvE or PvP and also the little competitions between friends/guildmates to work towards your titles faster.
The main thing I liked about the game is that your character stopped progressing quickly and the only progress you made from there on was improving your own skill at the game.
There is a huge difference between GW and GW2 as far as building is concerned : a character in GW in not just a DPS with some utility, characters are/can be highly specialized and team building is much deeper. That being said, after a while you tend to have identified your own preferences and generally work with ~10 builds you like and adapt to make your teams.
An example regarding “highly specialized characters” : I used a ranger build involving 0 ranger skills to defeat Mallyx (probably the hardest boss in GW) with my friend and although my build looked craptastic I was actually critical to our success.
There is also a huge huge difference in pace. GW is very chill, everything is slow : you don’t move really fast, you can’t jump, skills root you (except for aftercast), … That being said, the combat itself will probably feel extremely fast, not because of how fast the skills are used but because a lot of them happen at once and because skills have a much bigger impact in GW.
As far as balance is concerned, I’d say PvP is fine but it’s dead so too bad^^. In PvE most classes had a huge balance patch improving its performance dramatically but some stayed quite far behind. To me, paragons and rangers are especially weak compared to other classes and I am not entirely convinced with warrior performance either.
Would you like me to go find the patch notes from when they nerfed crit damage into ferocity?
IT is a widely known fact. I didn’t think it needed proof. but here you go:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-April-15-2014/first#post3896042
What evidence do I have that it didnt work?
Well we still have zerker meta dont we?
GG.
Well you misunderstood me if you think what I am talking about is close to the ferocity nerf.
I am not talking about lowering the highest amount of damage that can be reached but about increasing the base amount of damage you have regardless of gear. I stated that very clearly in my previous post.
Even though both my suggestion and the ferocity nerf are about changing stat curves, they don’t have the same purpose and I am for a much more drastic change than what was done.
The only problem I have with my own suggestion is that it could make characters too good when having near max damage while having high support stats. Even then, if those support options are unneeded zerk is still king but noone cares whether you run zerk or not unless you’re going for world records :p
You might want to quit the arrogant tone and read more accurately instead.
I don’t think your suggestion is the right way to do it.
If I were to handle this issue I’d just change the curve of both precision and ferocity so that going full zerk/assassin has a less drastic impact.
For instance 40% chance and +100% damage without zerk and 50% chance +125% damage with.
This way the zerk/assassin gear still gives optimum damage but others spec become more interesting because they don’t need to sacrifice so much to get their stats.
Really? This discussion again?
Ok.They already tried this but it didn’t work. Meta won’t change. It will just make people more picky, more kick happy. More QQ elitist scum kicked me. So, still think this is a good idea to punish good players?
Game is not the exclusive domain of casual bad players.
Ktnxbai.
Hey chill out !
I just explained my view on the matter, I’m not the one who started the thread and don’t have too much problem with the current meta.
Your answer is not constructive since :
-You say they tested it without source/quote/proof… I don’t follow those forums daily so I can’t tell to what extent what you say is true.
-You say it didn’t work without explaining why it didn’t work. This is the most important part of the discussion if something failed ! We cannot discuss an alternative solution without this information you didn’t provide. Do you know what it was ?
-The rest of your post makes no sense. Being less handicaped by non-zerk players will make zerk players more picky and kick-happy ? There’s no punishment for good players (I’m not talking about nerfing zerk) but only less punishment for less skilled players. (The numbers I gave were just for comparison’s sake, I don’t know the actual values zerk gear gives, I play too many games to recall each ones’ specifics).
Please don’t answer if you’re not willing to actually discuss the matter.
I don’t think your suggestion is the right way to do it.

Last time I leveled a character it took me 35 hours on 5 days. I used a lv20 scroll so I’ll grant you 2 more days :p
I find the leveling phase to be actually awesome in GW2, especially for the first time… You just have to explore !
Wow I suddenly realize how much more sensitive than me people can be^^
I mean reading this I didn’t even remotely think of the incriminated word :o I thought of a really big file (peta = 10^15), maybe I studied physics too much in my life Honestly I feel saner not to have thought about it at all :x
But to be fair I would say it is fair to force the name change even though the pronunciation isn’t exactly the same.
I stopped reading the replies at some point but here’s my view on the issue.
I think the main issue is that your self-imposed set of rules make a game system very annoying and this is ruining your game experience. I think you should define your rules according to the game mechanics instead of expecting the game mechanics to fit your rules.
Selling all the (hard earned) materials for the equivalent non account bound ascended material should be allowed to adapt your rules to the system. You’re basically still converting materials to an ascended but buying the time component. That seems fair to me, it’s really just a small psychological barrier you have here IMO.
Another advantage of this is that you could go a little further and allow yourself to work towards ascended mats with anything that makes gold instead of going full mat gathering (a lot healthier IMO).
If you REALLY don’t want to buy anything from the TP at all (honestly that’s a serious handicap) then you can still try the fractal route : with a nice set of infused jewels and ascended weapons you can do lv29/37/49 and get your armor pieces through daily rewards. That will still be a lot of work (probably even more x)) but could be less annoying to you. Actually this is only reasonable in conjunction with crafting : you just hope to grab a piece or two that you won’t have to craft while you wait for your time gated mats.
I sincerely respect your issue as I am also the kind that will play with self-imposed rules sometimes but I generally tend to adapt them so that they are reasonable in the game’s context. For instance playing chess and always wanting to use a specific opener as a rule is okay, refusing to use the queen however is bound to be too big of a handicap.
(edited by Lyndis.4653)
OMG things brought by the expansion might not be available in the base game, unbelievable !
It’s as if they intended to actually sell it, shocking !
Really ? Is it too much for you to understand they have to sell their work ?
Order matters when you’re doing a playlist since the game will always apply this order.
It does a random sort after the first song, but always plays the first. The key is to have a blank, short (1-2 sec) piece at the top of the playlist. It will play the ‘nothing’ first, then go right into the random shuffle.
O I didn’t know, I don’t recall having my intended order messed up but ofc with 3 pieces it’s harder to notice^^
I havent found yet a suitable battle playlist, I might try again someday.
But I can suggest a few pieces for boss battles I particularly enjoy :
1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kg0efHvdXw4
2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIrjgE2-C-s
3) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0DE5zyRI6U
Order matters when you’re doing a playlist since the game will always apply this order.
Crystal level-Combat phase is my favorite intense music for boss fights, it just suits perfectly any serious fight IMO so that’s always a perfect start in my book.
Tragic decision only occurs when the fight lasts for a while and I feel like the song is inspiring some sort of struggle so it’s most of the time fitting : whenever a fight is long in GW2 it’s most likely a struggle.
Finally Unfinished battle coming right after Tragic decision makes for a moral boost, the song feels like a “Come on you can do it !” so I like it a lot too.
This is the kind of thing I’d like to build for the battle playlist I’m still searching.
I guess so : it was the experimental one I’m using since the start of silverwastes and which worked on the previous platinum I killed.
(Yay disconnected during vinewrath…..)
Hey, I just did a breach and only fought platinum, didn’t go anywhere else. I was pretty active (going melee to WoR then hitting with scepter from afar, running around and so on).
When the boss died I didn’t get any organ and when the breach finished I didn’t get achievement credit while I got achievement credit for defeating platinum. My extractor buff is still active as well as the platinum debuff.
What happened ? What could I have done wrong there ?
O god what have you done :o
As a french I can assure you that the french voice acting is vastly inferior to the english one : weird expressions noone would ever use, inaccurate translations… Changing the audio to english really improved my immersion.
Anyway, when changing the audio the game first cuts every voice in the game if you have already downloaded the voice files (I don’t know if it transitions smoothly if you already have them). Then it downloads the required voice files at the next client launch. As far as I know it keeps the previous voice files so going back and forth is easier.
I hope you enjoy learning french, cheers !
I deleted my mesmer which I considered to be my vice main character at some point.
Level 80, created day 1, full set of exotics or ascended (that I kept), world map completion finished, personal level of fractal around 46 (even though it was after fractured, it shows I played her).
I was just tired of having her be a human so I created an asuran mesmer to take over her.
In the end I deleted her to make new characters to unlock every starting profession skin^^
Now the slot is waiting for new race or profession to happen, my asura mesmer is fully finished (lv80, equiped, world map completed) and I don’t play mesmer anymore x)
- Elementalist : playing staff can be ok but is generally preferred only if there’s another ele might stacking. Be aware that it is most likely the hardest class to play and could be frustrating to learn, especially if it’s your first serious character. That being said it is probably the most effective dungeon class of all.
- Necromancer : the light armored class that I love the most because if its aesthetics. Its current PvE state is quite sad since it can’t bring proper offensive support unlike every other profession. It’s good access to weakness can make it desirable in high level fractal though. The condition aspect of the profession is probably the best of any class but it is currently an inefficient aspect in PvE but things might change with the new mordrems (some of them are really weak to conditions). If you intend to play PvP I think the class is doing fairly well but I have no first hand experience since I don’t play PvP.
- Mesmer : mesmer is in an okay-ish state. You can bring a lot of reflects as well as boon stripping to a party, doubling boons through inspiration signet is also a possibility. This makes the class desirable to a party even though it is sometimes suboptimal (the less projectiles the less mesmer utility afaik). The profession has a long history of suffering from critical bugs because (for the most part) of the AI involved in its skills. I used to love the class but I have more and more trouble appreciating it : the burst skills being the phantasms feels less satisfying to me especially with those cast times that make them feel so slow.
On another note I have done exploration with every character and I feel like mesmer is probably the class I consider the worse to explore with : monsters in explorable area are so weak that casting a single phantasm on them is almost a waste which means that you’re very slow compared to classes that can simply burst from a couple of monsters to another group.
Exploring as an elementalist is okay if you’re already familiar with the class. If you try using your weapon skills like other classes (using burst skills then auto attack) you will probably be very slow unless it is fire staff. Another issue is that your character is very fragile which is sometimes frustrating in personal story or events where you can get downed very quickly sometimes.
Exploring as a necro is okay as far as I remember (it’s one of the characters I finished pretty soon). Either condi and zerk are reasonably effective to explore with decent damage and aoe potential and the class is quite resilient.
Last note regarding exploration : speed boost. It really matters when exploring a lot. Mesmer does not have a natural speed boost (only class in that case with guardian) which make it even less pleasant to explore as a mesmer. The only way to compensate is to use a set of traveller’s/speed rune. Mobility skills are also helping as an additional form of speed boost but all three casters are quite limited in that regard (most mobility skills they have are long cooldowns).
I hope it was helpful
Common sense, human decency and respect is a thing.
That you advocate hostile takeovers and general kittenery then call Langris attitude too aggressive for a public game is hilarious.
The majority have the option of creating their own group instead of ruining another.
But why would the fairest and best option for all ever be taken when we can have delicious drama instead. When you have the majority of people knowing each other they can make decision and one can then consider they own the instance. Care to try and prove that wrong ?
If majority mattered. Sure. But if it did we would agree so wouldn’t be much point then, eh?
edit: assuming they started the group. abusing majority for takeovers is bad mkay.
I’m not in a public game and felt aggressed, this is way different.
I checked and apparently now two votes are enough to kick, which I find stupid and don’t know the reason of (thing is, I barely even use that feature so I wouldn’t know). That only means ownership happens at 4 people and you need more than majority.
What I said still consists in facts (even though I was wrong on the requirements to kick). You have to deal with what you get, no matter what announcement you made or if you create the instance or not. I don’t say that I think it’s a good thing but it is how it is. Calling me “the wrongest man in the whole universe” for stating that is quite excessive.
I generally know how to handle any party or when I just want to leave and clearly that’s OP’s problem if you ask me. The removal of instance ownership is another discussion that doesn’t really need to happen here.
And if you need my opinion on that, I slightly prefer it that way because instance ownership led to other abuses and to some problems (inability to switch character if owner, insecurity if owner disconnects).
My “stupidest ever” post seem to be misinterpreted. I didn’t mean that you’re force to cope with whatever comes in your party and do the dungeon with them. You have to manage it : either convince the guy to leave, convince others to kick him (with or without explanations) or decide that everyone is doing nonsense and leave. Isn’t that just true ? No matter your advertisement you either manage who’s joining, play with those who joined or leave.
As for the second part, replace 3 with 4 and it’s true.
I still stand by third point, if you want to be safe in a public game, make everyone feel safe and be gentle. If the group is not adapting and too slow, either leave or get it over with, your call.
We’re not forced to agree but stay polite and I will. RemiRome, you cannot criticize my behaviour after more or less calling me stupid without bringing anything.
If people join, this is a public instance and you have to adapt to people or get out just as if you joined one.
The only notion of ownership can come from being 3 guildmates/friends in the group.
Your attitude here is already too aggressive for a public game btw.
Stupidest kitten I’ve ever read.
Second stupidest kitten I’ve ever read.
Based on the first this is the third stupidest kitten I’ve ever read.
You make 0 point therefore your post is automatically stupider than mine so…
It is just as it is implemented in the game : there is no ownership of an individual but decisions are made by the majority (paths and kicks). It is pure and simple fact. Considering you own an instance when people join you is delusion.
When you have the majority of people knowing each other they can make decision and one can then consider they own the instance. Care to try and prove that wrong ?
Third point has nothing to do with the first one. Some part of OP’s posts are, while not especially rude, quite blunt and can annoy a group.
I seriously wonder why you took the time to write this useless answer but here, have another shot at it if you want.
You must be aware, you told it yourself : “there’s no instance ownership”. You must stop to consider an instance “yours” because you put it on lfg.
If people join, this is a public instance and you have to adapt to people or get out just as if you joined one.
The only notion of ownership can come from being 3 guildmates/friends in the group.
Your attitude here is already too aggressive for a public game btw.
I have pugged a lot at all times for all kind of content (any dungeon, any level of fractals) and have never had even a fraction of your problems. If I was ever kicked I don’t even remember and I’m not always soft spoken.
That being said, saying things requires a bit of subtlety : identify your group, if most of it is obviously like-minded players then you can afford to be a bit harsh on one or two member and tell them what they’re doing wrong.
If most of it is playing unefficiently then you can decide to either try to teach them with calm without hurting feelings or to get out which is probably a better idea.
A simple advice regarding group advertisement for anything that isn’t Arah or FotM : keep it simple : “px”, “forward” or “up” is more than enough. How so ? People joining this kind of advertisement are (very) often people who know the game enough to not fear whoever might be in there.
Even experienced people can be intimidated by too restrictive announcements, it’s not really about “Am I good enough ?” but about “Do I want to be judged ?”.
Also it is more time efficient to just get a fast group without preemptive judgement and just either do the run even if it’s a little longer or find another quick group if this one is too slow rather than trying to find the perfect match at all cost.
Also there is a better way of saying “this is not a group for you” : make them realize it. First this is only possible for arah/fotm/aether (no other path can really go too bad). Then to do so just ask them questions : “Are you sure you have enough AR ? If not you’ll just get crushed by agony !”, “If you guys don’t know this path it will take hours and I’m not in the mood to teach :/”, …
Final point : just leave if you’re not willing to do the run with what you have. If you’re staying, be patient, helpful and polite instead of putting pressure on people leading to a bad atmosphere.

“There is no expansion” can’t completely be true.
It has been officially said that expansion type content is on the work, hasn’kitten
The only question is the delivery method which may or may not be through an expansion model. That is how one can tell there is no expansion : if the expansion content is delivered differently.
I basically can’t play female charrs or norns because this voice acting issue is adding to the feeling of being slow (due to size).
One of the big reason I’m almost always playing asura is because of the opposite effect : IMO the best voice acting by far (not only performance but also the lines themselves) and the feeling of speed.
That being said I’m not sure re-recording the quotes of a PC is really interesting for ANet in terms of ROI so I wouldn’t get my hopes high.
I’d love to see this guys last trip to the mists : http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Lord_Odran
This part of the lore really intrigued me when I read GW:Prophecies booklet so in a way I’m torn between having to experience it and the potential disapointment it could be.
Additional detail : if the personal story is completed while the latest living story episode has already been done, the bug doesn’t occur.
Description : whenever a living story episode is quitted, the most recent episode will start automatically.
How to reproduce : this happens when the personal story is completed after the start of living story season 2. Finishing the personal story of a character that hasn’t finished all LS episodes will trigger the unwanted behaviour.
How to solve (player’s perspective) : finishing the latest episode will bring back the proper behaviour (no automatic launch, quitting an episode means there is no episode active).
Personal interpretation : I think this has to do with the need of a closure from the personal story. Since the living story episode is sharing the UI it might be considered at some point as part of the personal story which doesn’t disappear unless it is finished. Once the personal story is finished (either before LS s2 started or with the end of the latest LS episode), LS episodes are no longer tied to this PS behaviour because the PS is finally considered finished.
There is a option in the options menu where you can set specific or all markers off…
I don’t think we’re talking about the same thing, I just re-checked the option menu because of you and there’s nothing even remotely close to an option on living story landmarks.
Anyway I finished my test : I just concluded the personal story of another character (created day 1, nothing to do with NPE) and the last episode started right after it and will restart if I try to quit it.
This means I had the right understanding of the bug, hehehe. I’d like a QA spot in your team ANet
Anyway now that the bug is identified and easy to reproduce I’ll report it in the bugs forums.
Hey I’ve been waiting in this last instance for quite a while just for you.
The sad truth is that there are a lot of tracks so it’s hard to tell which one you’re looking for, especially if their order is random (I don’t know about that).
Anyway here are all the ones I heard and found :
(not sure this one was there but I put it here just in case)

There are probably some missing and some that shouldn’t be here but that might already be helpful.
Let me know if the one you were looking for is among those and which one it was :p
I could quit episodes with other characters that didn’t do them without a problem. I’ll try and start episodes on such characters and see if I can quit without problem.
I wonder if there’s something going on like the game needs the personal story to have a conclusion and if you finish it after some LS S2 then it’s never considered finished because the LS episodes happened right after it without a proper closure and then you have to finish the latest episode to have a proper behaviour again.
That’s interesting : I’ll also try to finish a personal story to see if I can quit an episode properly after. Probably not today though since we’re getting a new toy
When I had a problem on my mesmer there was nothing I could do : quitting the episode would make me restart at the latest released instantly.
It only happened on this particular character, the 8 others didn’t have this issue but a few of them still had some personal story going preventing them from this issue.
I couldn’t find a solution and just finished the latest episode at that time, it’s fine since then. The only difference between this character and all the others is that it was created after the feature pack that changed the trait system (before NPE though).
Oh I see the map marks do indeed disappear :o
The UI icon is still greyed but I can live with that^^
I also had a buggy experience on one of my character where the last episode would start each time I’d quit an episode (even the once that launches itself) but I just finished it in order to get rid of the bug.
Thank you for the tip ! I’d just start and quit over and over again in town and get mad because of it, now I’m finally at peace The quit feature should probably update the map indicators instantly but it’s okay : clearly not a priority.
I think this feature needs to be reworked : currently quitting an episode doesn’t remove the landmarks of its mission on the map and the episode is still greyed on the UI.
When you quit an episode you want it to disappear completely ! Having to do it all over again in proper order to get rid of it is really annoying.
Do you think it would go over well now or better in the spring?
I’m happy to ask the team, but I imagine they’d want to schedule it properly.
My opinion ? The sooner the better.
Also I can’t understand removing popular items from the gemstore
The books are unrelated and as such can be read in any order. The order of release was the order of intended ‘lore reveals’ though.
If you really want to get into lore, I suggest doing the following:
- Play through GW1 (preferred order: Prophecies->Factions->NIghtfall->Eye of the North->War in Kryta->Heart of the North->Winds of change), reading the manuals for each before beginning each campaign.
- Read any other external lore documents (e.g., An Empire Divided and The Movement of the World).
- Read the novels in timeline chronological order (Sea of Sorrows->Edge of Destiny->Ghosts of Ascalon)
- Play the Personal Story
- Read a Season 1 summary
- Play Season 2
IMO, GW1 has a far stronger story than GW2 does, especially the Living World, and can even be fun to play still, however this may turn you to have a view much like the veterans which has, until E5, been a “GW2 is ignoring and even greatly changing GW1’s great lore for worse lore!”; you can’t play Season 1, unfortunately, so you’ll have to go with summaries there.
Nice, that’s more or less what I was aking for in another thread
I only miss the two external documents (will read soon) and Sea of Sorrows. Is it a good read ? This could be a nice christmas idea to give to my family^^
Thank you for your advice !
Asuran lore has nothing to do here, nothing.
Charr characters can wear nightmare court armors with plants all over their body, do you truly believe it is part of the charr lore ? :p
You have to distinguish your character from your race : you are supposed to be an exceptional individual within your race so anything that applies for your race doesn’t necessarily apply to you.
As for asuran armors and outfits it truly a shame that there are barely options to distinguish your gender. The only outfit I have found fitting my female asuras is the winter fancy outfit and I have spent quite a lot of time in the wardrobe.
ANet if you read this : I love you guys but please give asura player gendered armors, even if the difference is not significant (in this case the lovely butterflies are really a missed opportunity) it does matter ! Asura are already small and this makes it hard to have a noticeable look so we don’t need more difficulties, really !
I think human and sylvari characters under lv10 could be an interesting test.
I consider myself as a world exploration expert (I have 9 PvE world completion and a last character I need to work on but I don’t like her )
Two things :
- You’re right, it seems confusing. To be frank I haven’t captured beasts for this heart since my very first character but from what you said and what I remember it seems like you can use the capture skill as soon as the beast is weakened, looks like pokemon :p
- Never capture beast for this heart, fight in the pit. If I’m a new player and find the rifle part stupid then I’ll look at other objectives in the heart description et voilĂ You said it is broken but never a problem here ever : walk in, select any difficulty (doesn’t matter), kill stuff, get out, repeat.
Hello Lyndis,
The Heart Event used to be alot easier as the capture skill was a different skill that also was to be used when the creature was below X% HP.
I have done this heart event on other characters as well (alt-addict with exploration backpacks ready) and I also never chose the rifle option over the pit-fighting.But as of the 9 September NPE patch the Pit Fighting has been broken. So the only way to actually finish this Heart Event now is with the rifle.
You are correct on how it was, exactly the same as it was back then, where you would walk into the pit, a message would pop up where you could choose Easy/Medium/Hard/Cancel and the chosen enemies would spawn for you to fight.
But with the new design you have to go to Bracctus in the back of the arena and tell him you are ready. But then when you say you are ready the cages do not open. No progress can be made towards the heart this way.
Have you tried this Heart Event out yourself with a character after it was redesigned on the 9 September update? If you don’t have any left you can walk into the pit and watch other players walk up to Bracctus only to see them leave after 10 seconds or so. No enemies will spawn.
Thank you for replying to this topic
Hmm I see, all my characters have finished exploring this area so I didn’t test it myself :/
I have a spare slot so I could create a character to test this out but I assume you guys know what you are talking about.
I just checked this : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Talk:Help_Paenula_train_the_troops_by_fighting_in_the_pit_and_capturing_creatures
It looks like there’s a specific bug for human and sylvari races (at least). This is most likely a matter of bugged heart rather than non-intuitive NPE. We should report this ingame IMO.
I wonder if the pit bug is also race specific and why it is not opening.
