I have no precursor either, but not a big deal. Not sure why Anet doesn’t just doesn’t add two legendary a year, then provide on your account birthday the precursor of your choice. You would still have to take the time and mats to craft it into your legendary. Everyone wins.

I like the weapons and would enjoy playing with them on my characters. Unfortunately since a) I do not buy/farm keys and b) out of roughly 50-75 chests opened to date I have received 1 ticket (spent) and 7 scraps. So, I will never be able to own one. It’s really not a big deal to me since my characters are already outfitted with skins I like.

Too few players wanting difficult content?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It’s the players that are the problem. Not anet. If I remember correctly (it’s been two years or so since the advert) WvW was supposed to be “different” battles with each “world” coordinating their own defenses and attacks….ie small groups defend this castle here, small groups attack that caravan over there, larger groups try to attack there while another large group try to defend our own. Unfortunately players realized it was just easier to zerg the areas and ended up turning WvW into zergfest.

Tequatl can usually be done as long as you get an a “good map”. So a player gives up an hour of game play so they can be on a good map and taxi their guildies and friends 15 minutes before Tequatl shows up.

Triple worm is much more difficult and requires coordinated game play. People will try to “camp it” but usually coordinated guilds are trying to get their own map so all of their team mates can be together. So getting on a “good map” is just luck if you don’t belong to a specific guild.

Dry top has several tiers, but again…you have people only trying to get into an already successful Tier 5 or 6 map instead of trying to coordinate something with the map they are on. If they can’t find a successful tier 5 or 6 they just move on to some other content.

I don’t believe zergfest was the way Anet envisioned their game being played. There is nothing wrong with it though in the open world. For those that want more “challenges” then PvP, dungeons, fractals, and specialized guild events exist for that purpose.

I would not find it “fun” to slip on the ice as I’m trying to run to an event.

Everyone has suggestions, but why don’t you guys start a post and ask what the community wants to see in the game. Then take the most popular ideas and put it to a community vote, and lets see the most wanted feature to actually be worked on. You guys say you listen right? Then what better way then to take a vote to see what we really want rather working on things we don’t find fit at the current time. Post the votes on FB, put a reminder to “Go vote!” in the game mail boxes! You have more tools then these forums to find out what people want in the game.

I love guild wars 2. But I’m losing people to play with to WoW and other games cause there’s NOTHING else to do here. Help us help you. Just something I thought Id share.

There are plenty of people to play with, if you are part of an inactive guild, then join an active one. This game is casual friendly which means players will come and go as long or as often as they’d like. Some will return, some may not.

Polls can easily be skewed by how they are worded or how they are perceived, the answer options or even the number of accounts a single person owns. Plus the cost of such polls may outweigh the benefits that Anet/NCSoft wants.

The current suggestion function on the forums works just fine. The companies can see the type of feedback here on the forums and choose to ignore/implement as they see fit.

It’s not that it doesn’t work, it just doesn’t reach all of the player base. Not everyone is on the forums 24/7. I like draknars idea of the in game survey. It reaches EVERYONE in the game. No ones left out and no ones voice is unheard.

Yes, I agree that in game surveys are great, but usually only used for specific items…ie sent to players specifically in WvW about WvW content/fighting. Or, survey sent to people after completing a world boss on how they feel this event could be improved.

GW1 was great in that you could go with so many different skills on your bar. I understand that was a balance nightmare…so we can’t have that with GW2. I guess I’d prefer a new weapon added to each profession rather than getting a new profession.

In reference to crafting….I feel it could definitely needs some improvement.
It seems to be easier for 0-200 as most of the mats you will more than likely have on hand just playing normally. But once you reach the higher levels it seems costlier to craft an item than it does to buy it outright on the TP.

Yeah I’m a little annoyed with the camera changing to view your downed character. It makes no sense, especially in WvW/EotM when you want to see where the zerg went to let people know etc.

On the one hand, you’re dead so you should not be able to communicate enemy movements to your team, you’re supposed to way point as soon as possible to rejoin them .
On the other hand, in dungeons I can see how this would be upsetting because you can’t way point until everyone dies or the living break away from combat.

[Suggestion] In-game Email Surveys

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lynne.8416

I think I have not made myself clear and it is my fault, I propose that the polls are created by the players inputed subjects and not by random choice of an Anet employee that lurks in the forums and thinks what is best in his opinion for the poll. We make the polls and discuss them with Anet. They already did that with the CDI where they asked if players wanted to propose subjects to discuss or if they wanted to choose from subjects proposed by Anet.

So you are proposing that players create a poll and send them via in game email to their friends/guilds/random players on the map and then these people are going to submit the results of these polls to Anet?
If this is what you want to do, I have a few concerns.
First, I do not need anymore spam emails. (since one or a thousand emails could be going around more than once)
Second, any “results” could be easily manipulated as I don’t see Arenanet taking time out of their busy schedules to go through players mail to see if each actually responded to said “poll”.
Third. I don’t see any incentive for Arenanet to agree to this since they already have suggestions area in the forums.

I don’t recommend it for any “new” updates because quite a few people do not like change and will automatically give a negative critique on that basis alone. But I’d say on a quarterly basis they could have a week of in game pop up surveys (similar to what they did during beta) on specifics aspects of the game. ie first quarter is on TP and UI’s, second quarter on events like DE’s and world bosses and hearts..etc etc.

'vet players' & the new onboarding; theories

Trying to figure out why all these ‘veteran players’ with ‘8 level 80s’ are so kittened off over the new onboarding process, but I can only come up with 2 real theories (not mutually exclusive);

1) kittened off key farmers raising a ruckus.

2) Gamer moral panic over the outrage du jour (last month it was SAB).

It really makes no sense to be so very very mad over something that effects you so very very little.

I dont mind investing time and money in a game but when I am ’’there’’ so to say and I am at endgame, fully geared, I do want something to DO.. like leading a Guild for example or tackling dungeons on hard more like GW1.

Sounds like it’s turning into more of a casual MMO to do while the other games you like are having weekly maintenance.

Yes casual friendly, selling to the masses, kind of game.
There is no strictly “hard mode” content at this time. Although, honestly, how hard will it be after you’ve run through it a hundred times and memorized how to get through it quickly and efficiently ie speed runs?

I don’t have any complaints about the feature pack. I haven’t gone through everything with a fine tooth comb, but I’ve seen wooden potatoes video and I’m fine with everything. I don’t go nuts when Anet changes stuff because well, that’s just what they do..
I’ve gotten over 2000 hours of entertainment with this game and although the game is not “perfect” ……overall I’m a happy camper. When I reach the point that I don’t enjoy the game anymore, (which I don’t see happening for many years) then I’ll move on to some other game.

Who else will never create another Alt?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lynne.8416

Lynne.8416

I have no need to create any more alts. I’m satisfied with the 8 characters (representing each class and race) I created at launch.
From the beginning people complained that there needed to be a better tutorial system for new players, and Anet created it.
The new leveling system is for brand spanking new players and they’ll make out just fine with them.
Instead of trying to “hurry” your character through the content, just go with the flow and try to experience it as a fresh new character that has never done this before.

A serious question...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lynne.8416

Lynne.8416

Lately, more and more I’ve had serious issues getting the will to log in… Now please do not take this as a humble brag I am merely trying to apply some context to the situation. I currently have 7 legendaries, at least double that in ascended weapons, almost every single high end exotic weapon (Mjolnir, Infinite Light, etc…) and weapon skin in the game(even the limited time ones like from first Halloween), 7 sets of ascended armor, Fractal backpack, closing in on level 1k in WvW…

I honestly am finding it difficult to find a reason to log in anymore…

When LS content comes out it is at best 1-2 days worth. Yes there are recipes and such to chase but the major portion of the content can be completed in hours.

Feature updates hit and most are meh at best, some QOL stuff, some balancing, some UI stuff but nothing ever truly amazing.

I guess my question is… for those of you that have been at this since launch like me, and have achieved alot of your personal in game goals, what is it that keeps bringing you back? What keeps you playing? Because at the moment I am finding it more and more difficult to find reason to.

I’ve even started looking at other games which saddens me given all I have accomplished here…

I wish ANET would really consider a full fledged expansion… or some other form of EPICLY major content, ie new continent, race, profession, etc… getting spoon fed bits of stuff every two weeks that is of lower and lower quality each time and can be completed in shorter and shorter periods is destroying my interest.

Personally, I liked the original Halloween. Yes it was released like LS but a little bit trickled out every couple of days… To me THAT format was SIGNIFICANTLY better.

I don’t know just want to get some honest feedback here…

I have been playing the game since pre launch, and do not have a single legendary. I’m a casual player (2,000+ hours) and with 8 characters I don’t worry about not having anything to do. When I reach the point where I’ve accomplished everything I want to do in the game, then I will move on to another game. Obviously, for me that means at least another 4 to 5 years of game play.
But really if you are having a hard time finding a reason to log in, then it appears to be time to move on to another game. The great thing about this game is, that with no sub fee you can feel free to come back to it a year from now and see if anything has been added that you would like to accomplish.

Revitalize the Game World, Resetting Hearts.

Lynne.8416

I don’t mind having the “option” of repeating some hearts for extra coin and karma (reward based on heart area level of course).

But I think I would prefer to be able to see ALL of the active DE’s in my map. I really don’t care for being in say the Southeast area of Gendarran fields and waiting on DE’s to start and not have any clue that there are three active DE’s going on in the Northwest area.
Obviously if the DE is near a waypoint that waypoint will be contested..so that at least is a “clue” but there are many DE’s that are not near waypoints. This might help in finding things to do in areas that have completed hearts.

On another note, I don’t care for all of the different currencies in the game. Area specific (Geodes) or Special Event specific (festival tokens) I think is terrible because they are so limiting compared to coin (for killing) and karma (from DE’s) because you can earn these in any region of the game. Just because you want a certain “skin” you shouldn’t have to grind over and over a single area to be able to earn the required currency for that item. Maybe they could offer a currency exchange something like 100 karma for a festival token. (or something to that affect).

In regards to Sept patch mostly.

TL;DR: So are you happy with the state of changes in GW2 for the past two years? Sure there has been some good, but it seems most people are just unhappy overall.

Yes, I am happy playing the game and have been playing since the betas. Is it THE perfect game? Of course not. But even if they made zero changes to the game, I’d play for several more years.
Generally speaking, unhappy people post, happy people do not.

Birthday Blaster Soulbound?!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lynne.8416

Lynne.8416

Why not make it account bound? I purposely dropped two of my earlier characters to focus on a class I actually enjoy. The Birthday Blaster actually seems useful, but now it’s giving me more of a reason to trap myself to the other characters I don’t want to play. Why not make our birthday items account bound (except for the Skill Point Scrolls, I can see the balance in that.).

I would like to use this blaster across all my characters. Dx Who else is with me here?

Birthday gifts are based on your character age. It appears you are suggesting that Anet change it from Character age to account age. Then you’d only get one birthday gift for each account. Then altholics would be upset because they have 10 characters to share one blaster. shrug

Game Dev abusing power? Any way to report it?

So I was in Div Reach and there were a group of people who were dancing as Ursans with ursan Tonics. And I got in the middle and started playing an instrument and they liked having me there. A Game Dev came and Asked me to move from the middle of their group and I didn’t really feel like it, and kept playing…He wanted a picture I guess, And out of nowhere I got DCed and I logged right back in in the middle of them all again, and got instantly DCed again. The next time I logged back in I didn’t get DCed again, I assumed he got his picture. I felt like the DCing was probably against a rule or something, and I confronted him about it asking if it was against a rule to DC me like that and he just ignored me. The Dev’s name was kitten y.

good grief, would it have hurt you to move out of the way for a few minutes while he took a picture?

Apparently, the dancing bears(sounds so silly to say) didn’t mind him being there. He was playing an instrument. The only sour grape was the dev. Why should he have to move? …Again if all of what the OP said is true. There are always two sides to a story.

If someone asks you nicely to move out of the way…why can’t you just move out of the way? It’s really not that big of a deal. By NOT moving out of the way, there is a chance that something negative could happen, not always of course, just possible. So why not just avoid a possible negative confrontation and move out of the way for a few minutes?

I certainly don’t have an answer to the “precursor” issue. But I do understand the frustration for gold. Unfortunately there are those that grind out gold (via playing the trading post or grinding dungeons) and now have thousands of it and wish gold were taken out of the economy..(not that I understand the why of it)
While there are others that have less than 200g (after two years) and could never hope to buy any of the expensive stuff on the trading post.
But I agree, there should be an appropriate way for people to “farm” for gold (or items) how they wish.

This would not be a discussion thread – we’ll be using the CDI for those developer and player discussions. This would be a closed sticky that simply provides a list of what high level areas we’re aware of and what we’ve last done in those areas to help provide a road map for players of things we’d like them to discuss and brainstorm. This post would be in an effort to help drive, and help create discussion.
These lists would have no definitive time frame when they would be updated. Iterative development can be fast, it can be slow (hi precursors!) and sometimes priority’s can change over night based on player feedback, company needs, or even things that occur due to staffing changes from illness, vacation, etc.
If we decided something that was a key discussion point has either been completed, changed, or removed from our list – we’d update the sticky thread and also leave an open discussion thread in that forum with a summary of that change of status. If it hasn’t been removed from the list, you know it’s still a core discussion point for the Gw2 development team.

Getting it Just Right (Characters)

I haven’t re rolled any characters as of yet. I knew before launch that I wanted to create one of each profession and that each race would be represented in them. I’m completely happy with all but two of them.
I had to go back and reduce the size of my charr and norn because of camera issues I was having during jumping puzzles and I’d prefer them larger.
Also with the Charr, I just don’t care for any of the armors on them. They’re beastly, and for some inexplicable reason, I want them to show off their fur and physiques. Since Anet won’t provide me invisible/transparent armor, I guess I have to live with what I’ve got.

My norn is the one I’m most unhappy with. Her looks are an issue because I haven’t found an armor/tattoo combination I like and also, I just can’t seem to play her profession well at all so that is another reason of my dislike of that particular character. I’m still trying to find the right build/playstyle for her.

So 6/8 happy characters is pretty darn good to me. :-)

They are communicating with us…via blogs, feature packs, twitch and updates.

What exactly do you want from them? What to expect each year? They’ve done that in the past and because they’ve changed their minds (I guess due to iteration), the forums have slammed them for it. Do you want it quarterly? ie what we will be doing in the next 3 months, or every 6 months? You ask for transparency, but they’re not going to answer the community about every single “issue” that comes up. If you see a suggestion in an update…great…if not…well consider it as not going to happen.

Who do you want speaking? Any Dev or someone in particuar?

How do you want it delivered? Blog form, Twitch, or interview by magazines or at one of the cons?

I’m not sure the community would ever be happy with communications because people just seem to go nuts….(SAB)….whenever they DO make any type of announcement.
shrug

Let me publish a list of the stuff they’re working on, and alter the list when it’s changed. Other games have done it in the past. Second Life used to have a public vote for landowners on which items were the most important to work on. I don’t think they should go that far, but surely we really have no clue what they’re working on.

The last time we had information on anything other than the living story was the information about the last patch four months ago.

Do you really think a monthly update is something that no company does?

I’m aware that different companies do different things, I just was trying to figure out exactly what you wanted from them. So you want a list of things they are working on and updated monthly.
Ok, thanks

Arenanet has provided forums for the players to communicate with each other as well as Arenanet providing information to the players.
Arenanet even welcomes suggestions and critiques. That doesn’t mean that they will respond to each post/thread. They can’t due to PR and the overwhelming number of suggestions.
They’re not going to reply to your suggestions by saying.. “we’ve already considered that and we can’t do it and here is why” or "yes, that’s a great suggestion, I’ll forward your suggestion to “dev George” who will stop what he is working on and figure out if your particular suggestion is doable and will respond shortly."
Also, current content was worked on/planned out months ago. So any suggestions for improvement used won’t be seen for quite some time.

The only response they could possibly give to a player is: “Thank you for your suggestion, will take it under consideration.” Which is not the “canned” response people want to hear, so they stay silent.

Arenanet had in GW1 a message that would pop up that said something to the affect of: you have been playing for so many hours, please take a break. I thought it was cute. Didn’t work of course :-)

Did Megaservers ruin Events?

“Did megaservers ruin events?”

I guess it depends on your perspective. If I were playing the event for the very first time and wanted to see how the event chain comes to be…..then comes the challenge of how to “win” the fight….then yes, megaservers have “ruined” that particular experience.
BUT coming from the perspective of I’ve done this event a thousand times…I’m just trying to get my daily/monthly or karma farming the quickest way possible…then the megaserver has improved my experience.

I dislike the aspects and jumping. I find them very difficult to do. However, I do try to get through them. BUT what I hate even more are the areas where you die if you fail. Not only does it cost me time just getting back to the JP starting area, but it also costs me coin to way point. I find that infuriating and rarely do those. IF I fall and just have to restart from the beginning of the JP, then I will usually continue to give it a try for an hour or so until I succeed (or just come to accept that I’ll never get that one), or some kind Mesmer has pity on me and portals me to the end. :-)
If the aspects would last a bit longer, that would be extremely helpful.
