Why haven't you built a Legendary Weapon?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lynne.8416

The main reason is due to not receiving a precursor drop. If I received one, even if I didn’t care for that particular weapon I would more than likely create the legendary.
I haven’t bought a precursor / legendary skin because I don’t think the skins are worth the cost. The max I would pay would be 25-50 gold.
Finally, from what I’ve read on the forums the “precursor hunt” is more expensive than buying them off the Trading post, so again not worth it to me.

Won't be getting Legendary armor!

Like many players, I came to GW2 because it was a very casual experience that didn’t require me to spend 10 hours a day playing to compete. I did that for almost 15 years split between WOW/DAoC, I’m tired.

I took breaks because I know coming back I wouldn’t miss much. I’ve even managed to craft quite a few legendaries casually playing the game. Now here we are, I come back after a year, and learn that you’re required to raid to get the stuff necessary to make this (hopefully awesome) armor.

I have a good job, 4 daughters, a wife, and 2 dogs. I don’t have 2-8 hrs a day to dedicate to setting up, forming groups, organizing voice chat, raiding et. I’ve been a solo roamer since beta, I have hardly any friends. And the ones I do have aren’t elitists.

I feel cheated and I miss my original GW2 experience. It worked, the formula was different and very welcomed. It was a wonderful experience and is what made GW2 enjoyable and unique.

Now I’m just kittened that I’m denied access because I can’t go full neckbeard status for pve in a game I was told I wouldn’t have to raid in to get the best gear.

Bleh

I agree, in a way, while my husband has many hours available to play the game. I enjoyed the game because I could dedicate 30-60 minutes a day maybe and still get SOMETHING accomplished. Yes it took me longer to obtain things but I could get there eventually. Now with HoT I can’t do much in my one hour time frame due to timers, I can’t really grind out enough xp to progress my story. So I feel what’s the point? So now I just logon to get my login reward and logout. I read recently they will change a few things next month, but we shall see if it’s enough for me.

In my opinion, HoT is more of a L2P expansion. The core game allowed people of different skill levels to play the game. If one did not want to “learn to play” ie learn traits, skills, dodges & tells, they could easily be dragged around through the content with one or two other players. As long as they spammed 1 and completed hearts and vistas they could easily earn enough XP to get to the next level map area and still survive.

With HoT, it is just not possible to drag unskilled players through the content because players need to grind out enough XP/masteries on their own in HoT to be able to learn how to glide, bounce mushrooms etc to get through this new map content and story.

Anet made the decision to make more challenging content. In doing so, their goal was to retain players that prefer some challenge and are willing to accept the loss of the less skilled players that will be “left behind” in core.

Who hates this game now because of HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Lynne.8416

I don’t “hate” HoT. However, I don’t play the game much anymore because of it. I played wintersday achievements and will do a little bit of Lunar stuff, but other than that I just sign in to get my daily log in, and then sign out. I didn’t care for the “challenge” of HoT open world PvE. I wasn’t able to complete VB and during the week I only have a max of 30 minutes to play, so there really isn’t much point for me going into HoT at all.

I don’t care for HoT It’s really a personal opinion, either you like it or you don’t like it or you are ambivalent. I play GW for the skins. I’m not into “challenging content”. I prefer various ways (PvP, WvW, open world, Story, TP) to get the same skins.

There was a time GW2 was Casual Friendly

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Lynne.8416

I am a casual player and really enjoyed most of the core game, I’m also a rather unskilled player as my real life job is “challenging” enough for me and I prefer playing games to just “relax”. I have been playing the game since launch and have yet to even complete everything in core game as I don’t play for more than an hour or two after login.
I have map completion and completed the living/personal story in the core game, although I never did any of the LS achievements because I considered them too difficult and time consuming.
I do participate in special events like Halloween and Wintersday although I can’t do the timed jumping puzzles. I do enjoy most of the other events offered.
I really really really loved doing the hearts in the core game. I was so disappointed when they dropped them. I thoroughly enjoyed leveling my characters and exploring all of the different areas (except orr because it was such a depressing looking area).
I didn’t care for Dry Top because of those aspect things and different level terrain, so after story and map completion I never went back. I never cared for SW because of the constant enemy attacks, although I did grind it out for the lumi gear when it was quite popular, then never went back.
Unfortunately. HoT is just very difficult for me. I don’t play during “prime time” so maps are pretty much empty. I absolutely abhor this mastery system and that story and mapping areas seem to be locked behind it. I have yet to get map completion in VB, I’ve only gotten into AB for the guild hall capturing event. I’m sure I will get it eventually, but it sure isn’t the most enjoyable experience for me.
I’ve enjoyed the GW franchise but I can honestly say, that if Anet continues on this path I doubt I will purchase any future expacs.

On the value of "luxury" rewards

Its so laughable that you think there is much skill involved in listing your loot for a higher price.

Its basic math, just multiply the current value of your loot on the tp by 2 or 3, list it at that price and wait until it sells. Thats all there is to it.
Boom, you make as much as a trader.

The only issue I have really is…because of all this increasing prices on the TP.. and everyone trying to make the most amount of gold, eventually EVERYTHING is going to be way over priced and out of the hands of the poor and middle class players.

For example: Anton’s Boot Blade is valued (worth) 2s 64c by Anet (wiki) and is currently selling on the TP for more than 34 gold. That is way overpriced and for some players this could be out of reach.

Once you get into precursor and legendary weapons…that are selling at astronomical prices all because people are trying to make money off the TP. Not necessarily to buy something pricey, but because they wish to amass gold in the game.

So basically the “poor” will never acquire anything pricey, because by the time they make 100g, the price will have moved up to be 300g. Which I find rather sad.

The vendor value Anet sets has very little to do with the value the players set for the item.
The increased prices on the tp are due to additional demand, as the player base as a whole is destroying alot of mats atm to craft stuff or upgrade guild halls, etc.
Its actually positive for poor and middle class players, if basic mats rise in price becasue they can easily farm them and therefore get more value for their loot.
In addition to that, most valuable items that have been traded for over 100g before hot and have no function as a requirement to gain other items, have fallen in value since HoT.

I was actually referring to the fact that the poor will always be poor. Because they are not “farming” or “playing the TP” to make gold. They are just out there playing “their” particular part of the game (say PvP or WvW or mapping/exploring).

The rich will always find a way to be rich (as even when they go “broke” they know how to amass gold quickly). Some people play the game to amass gold because that is what THEY enjoy and they tend to control the price of items on the TP as they can afford to buy out the low and sell high.
Not saying it’s wrong, it’s just how life works.

I do love the new stuff, everything is beautiful. But even for me, its plan to see that sugar coating “making it harder, or nefing to fix our economy” Is really saying, We want you to buy our gems. Not make gold and buy our gems. hooray Korean Cash Cows!
This is really sad.

Although I don’t care for the direction Anet is taking with this game. I do not have any problem with them advertising the exchange. I rather like the fact that you can either buy gems with cash or trade gold earned in game to gems.

GW2s New Direction

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Lynne.8416

Lynne.8416

Guild Wars 2 never had any type of hardcore commitment; there was no monthly subscription either so it was always pick-up and play when you wanted. The game was designed around that and that’s what always kept me coming back. It’s why I’ve had the game since pre-release and I purchased the $100 copy of HoT.

The thing is HoT has moved the game in a much different direction than what GW2 represented to me and was to me prior to the expansion.

Thanks for taking time to write this up.

I feel the same. I have played the GW2 for long time because of freedom to do what you like when you like. I really dislike HoT for all the timers, for all the stuff that are gated behind masteries, for very little freedom and lack of options.

I agree, I’ve played this game casually since launch and I happen to enjoy the “easiness” of Open World PvE (LOVED Hearts!) of the core game. I didn’t care for Dry Top and Silver Wastes. I felt I HAD to grind out lumi gear in Silver Wastes and once that was done I didn’t go back.
I also prefer multiple ways to acquire weapon and armor skins.
I’m fine with Fractals and Raids being difficult areas and suitable for those that prefer challenging content. (PvP and WvW is good for competition as well).
I’m disappointed that Anet has chosen to make PvE more difficult and to lock content (story, map completion, skins ) behind Masteries and high amounts of XP.

precursor collection is a ripoff

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lynne.8416

I was one of those that was excited that Anet was going to provide a way to craft the precursor because a) I was unlucky to receive a precursor via RNG and b) the precursors on the TP were way out of my price range.
So basically I’m still out the precursors because I can’t afford to purchase the 700g + worth of materials to craft them.

Overall, I am extremely disappointed with this expansion.

Gold Starvation

Lynne.8416

There has always only been a few ways to make gold in this game….play the TP (which I don’t do) grind dungeons (which I never did) and run special grinds until they are nerfed (Champ runs, silverwastes chest runs etc) I’ve been playing this game (incorrectly to most people) since launch and have never amassed any gold.
Is it disappointing? Sometimes. Do I really want to grind out the same run day after day? Nope. So I’m poor.

If you want to amass gold then follow the current trend. Join the experienced players in HoT and as you map complete, harvest harvest harvest, sell, sell, sell.
There are ways to make gold, you just need a) the time and b) enjoy grinding.

Why did laurel exp boosters get nerfed again?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lynne.8416

I suppose Anet figures players will finally start using boosters to max out their XP for mastery lines. It’s a laurel sink or a gold/gem sink (when purchased via gem store) which is a win/win for Anet.

HoT isn’t bad, gliding is fun and I really like the revenant gameplay as long as they don’t nerf it but I’ve pretty much seen it all now and nothing of the little amount of actual content is engaging enough to keep me playing, SW is still the most fun and rewarding map, dungeons even tho nerfed to death are more rewarding than any of the new maps and events, and I know that raids are coming but they’ll probably be bugged for the first few weeks and the crashes and dc’s are still a thing with the 64bit client still in beta so I can’t really say anything about that.

I’m not really feeling the 50 bucks worth of expansion here, ofc I really don’t have a choice if I want to continue playing with friends and guildies but it’s really biting at me.

Am I too sour?

Although I don’t care for HoT, I don’t regret pre purchasing it. From watching some of the POIs, I understood BEFORE I pre purchased, that the content would be a bit too difficult for me and would need help getting through it.
I will get through the content eventually with help from family and guidies.

I have not received a precursor drop, so I don’t have a legendary. I’ve never understood why players felt they were worth the $1000s + gold on the TP, and I don’t think they are worth the $1000s of gold in materials to craft them, so I’ll probably never have one and I’m certainly okay with that. :-)

I have a heavy armor Charr and like the race in general. However, I do have a major complaint and the reason why I only have one Charr character. The only option is male armor. I don’t like that. Also, I went through all of the trouble of selecting the looks of my charr in character creation and I would rather show that off. So I hide the helm/shoulders and have the “skimpiest” chest armor I could find to show off the fur I selected. I would prefer the ability to hide most of the armor for the Charr since it’s an animal race.

Real Frustrations for the Causal Player

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lynne.8416

Lynne.8416

I’m always wary of threads that talk about “casual players” as I believe the term “casual player” can be a misnomer.

There are people that call themselves casual players based on any of the following:

  • their lack of skillful play.
  • the amount of time they put into the game each week.
  • they just play to have fun with friends and family (not grinding for anything in particular).
  • They don’t “google” guides, play the trading post or read the forums for ways to maximize their game play for the highest returns. Because they just play the game without using resources they don’t play “efficiently” to maximize their gold and item returns.
  • they solo the game (don’t belong to a guild)
  • they only play one part of the game (either Open world PvE, PvP, WvW or Dungeon/Fractal).

I also don’t understand the following statements:
“There’s really no combat-group experience in the game.”
I thought there are quite a few “group” events throughout the game.

“Nothing is sacred, nothing is iconic. Traveling around Guild Wars 2 is the same experience no matter how far you have traveled as the only game design is ‘kill and move on’.”
I’m not sure what the OP is looking for in a game.

“Guilds have no use as the game is designed almost exclusively to be solo’d.”
Even though I disagree, not sure why this gets a mention since HoT has many guild upgrades.

I’m not happy with this event at all. Did a single circuit, no rewards, and dc’d in one, so won’t get anything for that one. Since there are no rewards, I have no idea how many events I would need to do to have enough blooms to buy what I want from the vendor. Also, the idea of having to tag an event, way point to next event, tag, move to next event, etc etc is horrible game play idea.

Mordrem Invasion Feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lynne.8416

What’s the alternative? I can think of 3:

1) All the events reward a fixed item, either all the same one or one for each map/event type. This would drastically decrease the incentive to repeat the event, and there would have to be fewer rewards which would mean some players wouldn’t be interested in any of them.

2) The rewards are random. I’m not sure I even need to explain why this would be a bad idea, but the short version is a lot of people would get items they don’t want, some people would never get the ones they do want, and everyone ends up frustrated.

3) They reward a currency that already exists, which means some players would already have a stockpile and could get all the rewards without even participating. Maybe not a terrible thing, but it does defeat the point of the rewards, which is to get players to participate.

1) If it’s an area I don’t like, I’m not going to play in that area anyway. For example: Dry top. I mapped the area and rarely did any events. So I was not able to obtain any of the fossil weapons. If they had stuck with karma or gold, then I could farm an area I like and get the fossil weapons I want. There is absolutely no reason to lessen rewards in any area.

2) Rewards don’t need to be random. They could sell everything like they do now, buy from a merchant in the area.

3) I don’t have a problem if some players have billions of a currency and can buy whatever they want. They should be able to buy whatever they want since they play the game all the time.

I’m sorry but I have to start this discussion because I need to find out if I’m alone in my thoughts here, and I’m tired of the illogical arguements generated in game regarding this matter.

First of all, before you call me cheap, poor etc. I can easially afford the $50 cost of the expansion, I could afford 100 copies if I really wanted to. But afford and willing to pay are different. I find it absurd to charge the full price of a AAA game for how little content is being added. A few new maps, WvW maps, specilization, new class and mastery system. All of those content additions are wonderful, but is it really worth the full price of a game for content that will last less than 24 hours?

Unless there is far more content being hidden away from us as a surprise I refuse to continue supporting this game, when you consider you can pay for various popular MMO’s such as WoW for $15 and in the MONTHLY update already adds more content than this expansion is adding. Granted WoW is a pay to play but you’re still getting 5x more content for your buck.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

It’s all subjective. If you don’t feel it’s worth the price, then don’t buy it until it goes on sale for a price you feel is acceptable. I know I am going to get several years of playtime for this expansion, so the cost is worth it to me.

Minimum Upbidding

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lynne.8416

Lynne.8416

There really ought to be be a minimum amount by which you have to up the ante for a buy order on the TP. I haven’t been to many real-life auctions, but I’ve never seen a bidding war tediously go back and forth by one penny at a time.

If you really want an item badly enough to outdo the top bidder, you should have to commit a little more to it than 1 copper, literally the smallest unit of currency in the game.

It could be, like…a silver or .02% of the top bid, whichever is greater. That way on big items that are hundreds of gold, it would force you to bid in gold, without being completely insubstantial on smaller items. Since .02% of something that sells for like 12 silver is basically 2 copper anyway.

If players really wanted the item, then they would buy instantly at the sellers price. If they want to buy the item at a lower price, then they bid for the amount that they are willing to pay.
It’s no different than someone who wants to really sell their item. They’ll sell it for the highest offer. If they are looking to make what they believe to be a profit, then they will sell it at a higher price than what is currently being offered.

(1 each of Norn, Charr, Asura, 3 human and 2 Sylvari). Finally, I figure Anet likes to “nerf” stuff, so if they nerf something so much that I no longer like it, I can just change to another profession.

I’ve been around since GW2 was announced and (in my opinion) Arena Net has not changed a bit. They make announcements without any release dates and use the verbiage “soon” or “when it’s ready” until release (which is usually farther away than you may have anticipated) along with trickles of information here and there.

I’ve pre-purchased HoT and will participate in the Betas. I’m not sure I will enjoy HoT that much because I don’t care for Dry Top nor the Silverwastes, but I will give it a whirl none the less. I’m more excited about the Guild Halls and having a nice place to hang out with my Guildies.

However, if the OP meant to say what would I buy if I won a million dollars worth of gems, then I’d pretty much buy all the legendaries, all of the home instance nodes and all of the permanent gather/mining/logging tools for each of my characters. Also would buy all of the armors.

Why I may not buy HoT

I will purchase HoT, no question. However, I do have reservations if I will like it or not as I don’t care for dry top nor silverwastes. I only did map completion for dry top, and once I got my armor in silverwastes I never went back.
I’m sure there will be plenty to do in HoT, I’m just hopeful it won’t be a constant fightfest (like Silverwastes) as you travel from place to place.
