what makes it even more sad. Is sticking around for 4 tequatl events (3 failures and 1 win) only to get to the reward chest to receive the 1 rare, 3 blues and 2 greens. :-(
Eurogamer Expo 2013
“We were hoping originally it would take days/weeks for players to defeat Tequatl instead of 12 hours.”
My first attempt with organized group was successful.
With this, hopefully Arena Net realizes that they have to make even harder content.
wow, just wow, one organized group defeated him within 12 hours. There are many more people that haven’t been in a group that is able to defeat him. One can spend 8 hours (7-8 attempts) a day and still not succeed with the kill. That certainly does NOT make it easy content.
There is a simple explanation as to why one person can be so much “luckier” then another even when doing the exact same things on a CONSISTENT basis. This would happen if the random number generator used in GW2 was a pseudo random number generator using a FIXED seed versus a random seed.
RNGs with a fixed seed will return a repeating set of results and will start at the beginning of those results each and every time the rng is restarted. So if you log in today and the first 1000 returns on your list of returns based on your seed number are lousy rolls you will get the same 1000 lousy rolls when you log in tomorrow!
From the number of people that have posted such a disparity in “luck” between people my guess is GW2 employs a fixed seed pseudo rng but they would never admit to that for it would open one nasty can of worms.
THIS. ^ makes sense to me. We’ve been playing since launch and our luck has been consistently the same. Hubby and I will play together (doesn’t matter which characters we are on) and if I get a green, he gets a rare, if I get a rare, he gets an exotic. He usually at least always gets blues and greens. Me? I get those silly wigs, or porous bone or those white salvage items.
Hubby doesn’t have a decent RNG luck compared to his guildies (that receive exotics every day/week), but he at least is getting better drops than me, so he doesn’t feel as discouraged as I do. :-)
OP, yes you are only guaranteed the following IF you defeat Tequatl:
5 random weapons or pieces of armor with Fine rarity or above.
1 random tier 5-6 gemstone.

you have a CHANCE for the following:

OP: I don’t agree. I am casual, I do not log in every day. Sometimes I do dailies, sometimes I don’t. Casual players just need to decide what they “want” to do the day that they play. WvW, Map completion, dailies, living world etc etc. This game caters to casuals we are not “hindered” by not playing every day, it just takes us longer to achieve everything.
But doing what OP says should not influence the way you will play :|
So why not?
And if dailies are made just to push players into logging on daily basis and not to help casuals then this is a sick system.
If a player logs when he feels to do so instead of when he perceive he need to do so, I think he would be happier, and an happy player is an happy customer.
I don’t know, I guess the way I see it is that there are two reasons to do dailies: 1. for those that are collecting laurels and coins.
2. People that “need” a reason to log in. ie you’ve done everything else you’ve wanted to do in the game and this is the ONLY thing currently that you feel the need to log in for.
So, I just don’t see how the dailies hurts casuals.

Well I created a female charr. I don’t care for the male looks at all, AND it is my least favorite race in regards to looks: I don’t like the hunched back. I also don’t care for the running on all fours. They should either do everything on all fours OR always stand upright. Also, I don’t like the fact that most of the armors cover up all the fur that I selected.
I think Anet should take the time to improve them.
I enjoy the game…even after a year of changes.
I have no idea, how much I have spent. I bought extra character slots and bank vault slots at the beginning and I did buy a quaggan backpack and some transmutation crystals. Oh and I bought the medium armor. I think I bought some pets some time ago. I think that’s it.
It really depends on the day of the week. Friday thru Sunday, it’s rare I don’t see at least one other person in any map. Monday thru Thursday can be hit or miss depending on the time of day.
I don’t miss the trinity at all.
Currently all champions are to weak, in frostgorge sound all champions die quicker than you can do enough damage to get loot of them. I suggest either making them more powerful or randomizing their respawn time, so people cant camp them.
The only problems I have with your suggestion: 1) People on a low population server, or a same level character/s come across a champion on their own.
2) too difficult, then people won’t even try to kill them.
The only reason why people are “camped out” is due to the current ease of champions. If you make a champion too difficult then the general population may not play them, which is what happened in the past as champion drops were not worth the effort.
I am quite sure it is a lot since I only play roughly two days a week. :-)
“TL:DR To summarize, the piling up ‘daily’ and time-gated content is just a shallow attempt to keep people coming back, and to restrict those that play many hours a day, causing GW2 to feel like a chore.”
I’m not sure I would call their philosophy “flawed”, but there are definitely things I dislike about the game and feel are a “chore” as well.
I am a casual player. I do not play every day and when I do play it’s usually not for more than a few hours at a time. I’m obviously NOT Anets target player, but I also don’t feel like they specifically exclude me either.
I mostly enjoy open world PvE and I do dabble in WvW a few times a week. I enjoy playing all of the hearts, vistas, skill challenges and DE’s. I don’t care for dungeons nor jumping puzzles, but I’m not “upset” that they are in the game.
Although I’m glad Daily/Monthly tasks are available, I don’t particularly enjoy feeling the need to “plan my adventuring” around them to achieve them each time I play.. I much preferred the Nicholas the Traveler from GW1 (collect 10 items for him and receive your reward).
Also, I’m glad that Anet has these additions to the living story. However, instead of every 2 weeks, I would prefer more along the lines of 6 weeks as this would allow me to casually meet all of the achievements while still giving me time to play the areas I like.
I don’t care for the diminishing returns/account max for boss chests either as I feel if someone wants to play an area 24/7, then they should be able to.
Obviously those that play many hours a day would disagree with my style of play and some of “my” suggestions of preferences.
Anyway, I feel Anet is doing the best they can to appease a majority of their player base. They can’t possibly make us all happy. As their player base changes I’m sure Anet will also continue to evolve the game to appease them as well.
It’s been a year and I still enjoy playing the game. Hopefully this will continue for a few more years.
I have one of each profession and although I do feel that their looks are very important, I don’t play the character based on that. I play the profession that best fits my play style. At the moment I mostly play my necro and ranger.
So play style is most important followed by their looks.
Quite a few of the world bosses are for lower level areas. Although there are level 80’s farming them, these bosses are “epic” for the first time player.
Not everyone farms the bosses, and arena net has restricted the farming to once a day to try to reduce the lag. But there really is no reason to alter the dragons spawn times, if you want more of a challenge you can go during non peak times, or you can take off your gear, or use weapons you are not traited for to make yourself more vulnerable to the dragon.
I enjoy the hearts/quests and would welcome more.
I wish they had the attributes separate from the skins. I don’t mind the skins being expensive, but I would like the option of looking “bad kitten” one day and “pretty in pink” another. To assist with the storage issue, you could have a personal vendor/butler that held all of your “skins” so that your could put them on at a moment’s notice. Anet could also charge a few silver each time you take the skins out.
Since I was aware of the game prior to release I had significant time to think of names for each profession. So I’m happy with all of their names.
I’ve got them outfitted in the armor that I like the best, but there are not a lot of armors that I like.
The character I like least is my Norn thief. I don’t like the slo mo running, and I haven’t come up with a build yet that I can play well. I want her to be dual pistols & bow so she still needs some work.
The characters I like the most are my sylvari ranger, asura Mesmer and human necro.
So overall I’m pretty happy with my characters.

Personally, I’d like “skimpy” pieces for my Charr. After all, I spent several hours on character creation to choose the fur color/stripes/spots only to be covered entirely by the armor. I found one top that shows off the chest and back, now to find something to show off the legs……..
I solo or team up with my husband. I don’t mind joining up with others though.
One of the reasons I have not done any of the dungeons, because it seems to me that a lot of teams want you to fill a specific role, and as a perma-noob I am unable to fill that role effectively, and I’d rather just avoid the area as opposed to getting yelled at.
Personally, I’m glad you can receive the JP achievement without the bomb. I don’t mind that a chest is rewarded separately.
Easy mode = completion achievement points.
Hard mode (timed) = completion points plus chest.
Don’t recall that there was any “tip tool” to explain this difference upon entering the area, but it’s been awhile and I only did it the one time. But it is listed on wiki for those that use it.
Personally, I want more choices as I have 8 characters. So the more they offer the better chance I might find some I like.
Thanks for the post. I wasn’t lucky in the RNG department after about 35 runs I gave up. Hubby ran 25 races and got 3 of the skins. I’m not exactly in love with the skins, so I’m not too disappointed that one didn’t drop for me. I hope more back pieces are added as I’ve got 8 characters to apply them to and I prefer different skins for each character. :-)
Thank you Anet! I love my kite!
I received the “wind”. I love the animation, but mostly, I love that I can fly it anywhere!
Kudos to Anet
My human female transmuted the starter armor set because there was nothing else I liked. A lot of the outfits make it look like they’re wearing about 7 layers of clothing, which is something I don’t like. But the starter armor is acceptable, so I’m not too upset about the selections.
I have “mixed emotions” about it. On one hand: It’s in a PvP area, so if you want it you may have to fight for it. On the other: I don’t like to “grief” people for stuff like JP’s, Skill Points, or Vistas as those particular items do not have anything specifically to do with PvP.
I have 8 characters, all level 80, all female
Charr – Heavy armor class
Human – Heavy, Medium, Light armor class
Sylvari – Medium & light armor class
Norn – Medium armor class
Asura – Light armor class
I created each profession and race because I had no idea at launch which I would enjoy playing the most. I still don’t have a “main”, but I do have a couple that serve specific functions…ie WvW, PvE, Crafting. There are a couple that I play less often than others, but it’s because I can’t find a decent build that goes with weapons I want that character to use.

I agree, at launch there were so many players running around doing hearts & DE’s, and we were all leveling our characters. But those days are over. Most players have their level 80s, and are “done” with that part of the game.
I still enjoy PvE, but now it’s only for grinding out my own personal goals. I no longer pay attention to what the NPC’s are saying and I don’t care why I’m helping farmer Joe for the 100th time kill whatever is attacking his crop.
When a player reaches the point where the game is no longer enjoyable, then it’s time to move on to another game. Anet is trying to keep players entertained by adding some sort of content every 2 weeks. So at least there is something “new” to look forward to and try each month.
So far, PvE is still my favorite, and I still HATE JP’s, but I will continue to try out the new content each month.
If the bugs didn’t exist in the first place there would be no exploiting…
You just made me puke a bit inside my mouth.
You’re basically saying that if a store owner forgets to lock the door to his store and someone see’s this. Then said person is free to enter the store and take anything he likes as the one at fault is the store owner for forgetting to lock the door?Court: So Jack, you’re guilty of robbing over 5000$ of money and items in this store. What do you have to say before I sentence you?
Jack: The store owner forgot to lock the door.
Court: But why didn’t you say so? You’re now declared innocent and are free to go with all the money and items you’ve acquired. Case dismissed.
I think a better analogy for these exploits would be that the store owner price marked a $100 item as a $1.00. Yes, the store owner loses money, but the customer didn’t do anything wrong/illegal. As soon as management is made aware they fix the problem.
OP, I understand you are upset because you accidentally used a Mesmer portal that resulted in something unexpected…. But i see no harm in other players asking/spamming for portals. If a Mesmer chooses to assist them, that is their choice.
I’m always unlucky in the drop/loot department, (I think Anet hates me) it’s been that way for me since launch. Others receive so many more exotics/rares and mats. shrug but there isn’t anything I can do about it.
When I get enough gold, I’ll be able to buy what I want. I’ve resolved that this is the way I need to play the game to get what I want and I’m okay with that.
I know that back with the first couple of content releases, e.g. Halloween, a lot of players complained that there wasn’t enough information accessible about the releases before they happened. As a result of this we saw a lot more information put on the content release pages for subsequent releases and this is great. The content release pages are a brilliant way to deliver enough information to pique interest without spoiling everything.
For the life of me I can’t figure out why we’ve suddenly gotten to a point where the entire contents of the releases is being shown prior to the actual release. By doing these developer livestreams and giving access to sites like Dulfy who then put out extensive guides BEFORE the content is available you’re actually taking a lot of fun out of it. People should be excited to get in game and explore what the new content has to offer and they should feel like all of it is brand new to them. As things stand the releases feel stale because instead of people trying to figure things out and actually exploring you end up with a chatbox full of “There’s a guide on Dulfy”, “Go look on Dulfy” etc.
Tl;dr Can you please stop completely spoiling any aspect of surprise for the content releases.
Before someone starts saying “just don’t look watch/read the stuff”, that doesn’t address the actual problem here. New content should be new. Arenanet shouldn’t be encouraging a gameplay mentality where players are basically expected to read how to play the content before playing it – encourage players to figure things out and help each other out. You’re killing the gameplay and community environment as it stands.
Are you upset because the content is exposed BEFORE release? Or the fact that the content is exposed entirely on these sites? Would it be okay for sites to post all of the content on the day of release?
Personally I like that they put all of the data out there. I can see what I want to do and where it is located and what I need to accomplish it. If the data wasn’t out there, I’d miss out on a whole heck of a lot of content.
Someone in an earlier post used the word “perma noob”. This is me. I have been playing since launch and I am unskilled compared to most players. I’m okay with this, but others….not so much. I play a few hours at a time and play the game to have fun. If an area is not fun (to me) then I avoid that area.
OP, I understand your frustration, I stink at jumping too. However, it IS possible to get thru this puzzle, because i saw people complete it. i haven’t been able to complete it yet, but I WILL complete it……someday. I would agree with your complaint IF say only mesmers could complete it, or if only Asuras could complete it, or if it required a team of people to complete it.
I suggest you let it go for a bit and try it again some other time. Maybe you will be successful.
I thought the game offered “cosmetic” items. Some are more expensive or time consuming than others, but I wouldn’t consider any of them “prestigious”.
In regards to value, well that is pretty subjective.
An unskilled player can easily run around with skilled players and thus achieve the exact same goals and rewards. It also doesn’t mean the unskilled player didn’t work hard to accomplish the goal. So I guess in my opinion it wouldn’t devalue the item.
I don’t normally just play to meet my dailies. I do pay attention to them, and if I achieve it…..yay. If not… Doesn’t bother me because I’m playing the areas I want to play on that particular day.
Although I understand why those that only focus on completing that particular item each day/month would consider them too easy.
I’m just not that type of player. At this time anyway.
(edited by Lynne.8416)
Yes, I look at armor. However, I don’t usually have much of an opportunity as the only time one has to pay attention is if someone is standing at the bank or is afk.
I guess I see open world PvE differently. In my opinion open world PvE should be played using any type of build you want. it really doesn’t matter as every build should be viable.
WvW and dungeons and PvP are totally different and builds should be more min/max as they are more of a strategy gameplay.
No thank you. The difficulty is just fine for me.
There is a simple way to make “easy” content more challenging. Take off your exotics and accessories. Use builds that you haven’t “min/maxed”. Use armor/skills that are appropriate for the level area you are playing in.So rather than have a balanced game with 60-70% in the easy area… Everyone should have easy content with no medium, hard or very hard content because YOU don’t want it.
Hate to tell you but running dungeons with most builds and even with masterwork gear and only exotic armour isn’t exactly a hard thing… I even run with under 80’s for stuff like AC and CM.
The thing is more about how they are set up at the moment is terrible.
I bet you are one of those people who consistently whine about the mobs in SS being too hard r_r… when all 80 areas should be atleast that damaging.
Nope, not a whiner. Whatever Anet chooses to do, I’m okay with and will adapt or go elsewhere. It’s just a game to me.
If I feel content is too difficult, then I stay away from it or go with a group. I do what is fun in the game for me. If it’s not fun to me, then there is no sense in doing it then.
No thank you. The difficulty is just fine for me.

If I am in a conversation with someone in chat window and they use an abbreviation/term I’m not familiar with, then I ask them to explain the abbreviation. No biggie.
However, I don’t feel they should be used on forums as there is no character limitation.
I agree with kishter, there are plenty of ways in the game to make areas more difficult yourself either by wearing white armor or limiting your skill use.
Although it was easier on my warrior compared to my ranger & mesmer, I certainly didn’t find single player mode “easy”. In fact was unable to complete with my engineer since she got killed several times and had broken armor.
My characters only recently reached level 80 and they have not been outfitted with any type of “max armor/weapons” They haven’t even learned all of their skills yet L
I guess I am not playing “correctly” as he would only take minimal damage from his mines and on occasion damage from me only one out of 10 hits thus taking me a significant amount of time to kill him. Since others are having an “easy” time of it, I’ll search youtube for the “correct” way to fight him. ;-)
RNG absolutely sucks (for me) so I would like champions/veterans to have guaranteed drops. I’m tired of killing champions and veterans and getting the white “junk” that drops. Sometimes I get nothing at all. It doesn’t matter if I solo kill or group kill, I generally get worse drops as compared to my friends.
Cantha was my favorite GW1 region to work on. And I worked on every GW release. I know a lot of the dev team loved it and would love to revisit it. I kinda agree with critickitten about the negative aspect of tight corridors. Most of that came from hitting technological limits while trying to keep the epic quality of the concept art. I think we could do some really amazing things with those themes in our new engine. Certainly nothing is ruled out. I certainly encourage anyone to express your desire for a Cantha region in GW2 in a positive and friendly way. It could be years away, but it’s worth asking for.
As he states, nothing is ruled out. I think the world is big enough right now and I don’t mind waiting a few years for Cantha.
OP, you haven’t stated how Anet has discouraged you from playing alts? I have 8 different professions. Most are at level 80.
Some people create one character at a time, others play a different one daily. Some have characters that “specialize” (ie warrior runs dungeons, thief is Wvw etc), there are so many ways for you to play.
There is some hard content in dungeons, sadly everyone just runs by them to get to the chest. They are explorable but sadly nobody ever explores them. You can only get so much challenge from PvE due to predictable attack patterns. Just increasing the HP and attack power of mobs will just make it tedious and boring. Like someone said above, if you really want challenge, play other people since they tend to be a little unpredictable maybe these new Arenas will be the answer. GvG would also be nice.
I for one think that the difficulty GW2 is just about right. Some stuff could be made a little harder but I’m fine with the way it is. You could always try playing with cheaper gear, or without runes or trinkets or even traits. There are tons of ways you can make the game harder for yourself without affecting everyone else.
I agree, the game does allow players to make content more difficult in a few ways. either PvP or WvW or by wearing lower level armor.
I had one of my characters permanently parked here waiting for a reset. Thankfully on Sunday I happened to be playing when the “new build available in 2 hours” message came across. I stopped what I was doing and moved every single character to Diessa in anticipation of the reset. Sure enough the new build reset the event and I clicked on the catapult and was able to go flying to complete the vista quickly for all of them.
