Using it with heal turret to stack up a lot of perma regen is pretty useful, I guess.

They respawn as soon as the last of the 3 is killed.

As such, every group that I run, or have ran with does the following:

Kill all but 1, get someone to stand next to the wall so that they throw grenades, but hit the wall.

Then, the other 4 people proceed, while one person ties down a grenadier while taking no damage, and doing no damage.

Its pretty much required.

Its not in the spirit of it but… I ain’t doing it ‘as intended’. That’s too long and cheap.

This is indeed, not a top priority, but it is a very easy fix, that only requires you guys, giving us better information.

In a lot of cases, classes suffer from a deficiency of information or simply false information from traits and abilities.

Now, this is only from my engineer, but some good examples could be:

Incendiary Powder, this trait has an ICD, please make a note of that in the description.
Toss Elixir B, this ability does NOT give all 4 boons as the description suggests, nor does it give might for 30 seconds. Please change the description.
Toss Elixir R, this ability also counts as a light combo field. Please note that down.
Super Elixir and Acid Bomb, these abilities are listed as ‘elixir’ yet do not benefit from any traits that affect ‘elixirs’.
Some traits, such as explosive powder, steel packed powder, potent elixirs and others affect toolbelt skills, while others like fast acting elixirs and short fuse, do not. Please tell us what is affected by what skill, its very unclear.
Potent Elixirs, this trait is very unclear in what it does or what it affects. No numbers and no indication that it does not affect elixir S and U.

Its just a real shame that these problems have existed since the betas, yet nothing is done.

This isn’t a bug, this isn’t making new content. Its simply changing words. Its a very easy thing that could be done, that would go a long way to improving the ‘little’ things that are annoying people in game.

Due to the fact that the tools line gives the ingenuity stat which lowers all 4 of the tool belt skills recharge, I believe it shows a good amount of logic that the specific traits that are designed to effect kits, only effect the kits. The class mechanic tool belt skill and the utility skills of the kits are two seperate entities.

That’s not what you were arguing when you were talking about whether racials should get toolbelt skills.

As to whether or not thing should affect toolbelt skills, if they affect the main one, I think the answer is simply to make it clearer in the description.

And in general really.

Potent elixirs has such a vague description. Give exact numbers, and on which elixirs. As it stands, it does nothing for U and S. That’s misleading.

1 copper rewards have been removed. Early in the game I got it too.

As for your bad reward, I feel for you.

I got lucky with mine and got 80 gossamer and 80 orich from completing all 3 Orr Zones and Frostgorge Sound. Lucky me I guess.

Elixir traits are enough to drive you mad.

IIRC:

Fast-Acting Elixirs:
Elixir H, B, U, C, R, X and S(though in tooltip only)

Potent Elixirs:
Elixir H, B, X
Toss H, B

HGH:
Elixir H, B, C, U, R, S and X
Toss: H, B, C, U, R,

Its pretty much arbitrary how elixir traits affect elixirs. Don’t look for logic.

As it stands with regards to the elixir gun. Only one trait reduces cooldowns, and that is the ‘fireforged trigger’ trait.

It currently however, is bugged itself, as it only affects the cooldown of elixir F and acid bomb IIRC. Not everything.

The problem with turrets I believe, is that the way they balanced them was spread ‘too thin’, as in, they balanced turrets around the toolbelt, around the detonate, around the overcharge and around the active turret itself.

I do think some people are looking at it a bit wrong though, turrets are not necessarily meant to be replacements for your rifle/damage skills. They are mainly there to complement it. So, in reality, you do use your rifle/pistols and your turrets are there to help you out.

However, the other reality is that gadgets/kits/elixirs are just better at doing damage and more reliable.

They don’t rely on poor AI, low damage, immobility, high cooldowns, aren’t destructible and don’t always need 30 investment into traitlines.

With charr: Armour looks bad.
With Humans/Sylvari/Norn: Armour looks good
With Asura: Armour looks weird

I’d say Dwayna.

Dolyak gives you regen consantly of 130hp, which is basically regeneration, without any +healing.

I think the healing buffs from dwayna serve better.

Be sure to use a shout build too!

If gear does the basic framework of:

1.5 of one stat
1 of one stat
1 of one stat

Then, it can’t be overpowered or better than anything else.

I don’t see how it is logical to exclude certain combinations from PvE for no reason, since balance can’t be the answer.

Turrets are crap
Kits need design changes
Non grenade builds need to be viable for damage
Flamethrower needs to be redesigned to do a lot more damage, and have more cohesive and responsive skills
More traits need to be devoted to gadgets and toolbelts in general
Some traits need to be unified, mainly in the firearms traitline
RNG needs to be toned down

I’m an engineer, so I’m curious … why do you not like kits?

As an engineer, I can think of several answers.

Some kits, like the flamethrower and tool kit are extremely situational and weak.

Some kits, are clunky and hard to use, like the bomb and grenade kit.

Furthermore… kits make you lose stats when you equip them, and don’t count towards any form of sigils so… kits are crap.

As it stands, engineers, due to kits use toolbelt skills without kits, otherwise they lose out. And are the only class who cannot use weapon swap sigils in any scenario ever so…

Kits are as it stands, not worthy of being a weapon swapping mechanic since they are not weapons.

However, despite these issues, I’d say the engineer. I feel they are much more varied than the necromancer, which I feel is a lot more boring. Not too many weapon choices, and death shroud as a mechanic isn’t too exciting.

Main idea for how mine is different is: I removed 10 from firearms, and 10 from alchemy, and put both in explosives so that you could get some proper use for your grenades.

For gear, I would consider going power, toughness and crit%.
It gives you good damage and toughness helps you survive, while the 2000 HP from alchemy means you aren’t going to be only relying on toughness for your mitigation.

You’ll also be doing quite a bit of condition damage, from incendiary powder and from sharpshooter, but also from your blunderbuss and grenades.

I’m not a big fan of using racials, so instead of hidden pistol, I’d use elixir R, which is more useful in my opinion and is a better stun break tool.

Because everyone wants it, and somehow as a whole came to the conclusion that those are the best stat mods to use.

But its not an advantage at all.

Having power, vit, toughness gear be equally accessible as power crit% toughness, would not create an imbalance.

Its just an arbitrary distinction.

Lets look at superior rune of the eagle for example shall we, the last stat reads

5% more damage to foe under 50% hp.
Since we wear 6 armour pieces thats…

6 × 5 = 35 percent.

Now lets say I’m doing a base damage of 1000

35% percent of 1000 is 350
So after target hp drops to 50%
my base damage is now 1350

Now lets compare out of 10 attacks
Base damage without the rune
1000 × 10 = 10,000
Base damage with the rune
1350 × 10 = 13,500
Damage difference 3,500.

Mind you the average player at level 80 has about 14k – 20khp.

First of all, you have no clue about how runes work.
Secondly, what does that have to do with arbitrarily limiting soldiers/shamans/rabid and other stat combinations? Eagle anyone can get.

What does being able to get 100% eagle, have to do with it being impossible to get 100% rabid?

I never use speargun because with a power build, grenades out damage it, and with a conditions build, grenades out conditition it.

It has no utility either. The net? Pfft.
The weird pull/retreat? Yeah I have tons of use for that …

I can see why they didn’t.

If it is indeed true that engineers were originally a heavy armour class, and had shotguns.
Then I guess during the stages of designing what an engineer could do, they never said ‘long range’.

Kind of like how a Guardian never had anything at 1200 range, and how a thief still doesn’t. Makes sense.

What I’m annoyed at is how Arenanet announced grenades, as if they are viable at 1200+ range.
Please don’t say and pretend that it is the case. It isn’t.

Grenades are still short-med range.

Don’t touch my rifle.
Its my favourite weapon in the engineers arsenal.

Granted, its not as effective as grenades but its my favourite.

There is nothing functionally wrong with the rifle, apart from the odd bug with blunderbuss/overcharged shot doing nothing. And jump shot being clunky, but nothing to warrant redesigned the skill. Just to warrant fixing how it already works.

Combinations like ‘rabid’ and ‘shaman’ and ‘soldier’ seem to be attainable only in gear form, from dungeons and karma. But what about trinkets?

I don’t see any advantage in this. Having a full set of ‘soldiers’ gear isn’t more overpowered than having a full set of ‘knights’, so why is one impossible to attain, while another is dirt cheap on the AH?

Seems arbitrary and restrictive honestly.

Having more build options would help the game I believe.

I’ll run a test but the tooltip numbers go up and down when you add or remove condition damage. brb with those results

Just get a rifle turret, overcharge it and see how much it ticks for.

Someone told me before that they DO get boosted by power. Just..not out of weapons. (Or did I get that confused with kits? If I do then sorry) It seems that only power from other slots (helm, gloves, etc) will boost your the direct damage portion?

That’s kits.

Currently, the Mortar and Turrets don’t benefit from ANY stats.

Kits don’t benefit from weapon stats.

Its for all turrets and its a bug.

The way it works is: drop a turret, pick it up IMMEDIATELY. And it does not benefit from 25% faster.

I’ve noticed that the button for placing the turret down flashes for 1 second or so after being set down. If you pick it up while it flashes, it bugs out.

Best tip? Give it a second to be safe.

No. Stop asking for a sniper kit please, its a bad idea.

Why?
Where would it go? Utilities? Well that would mean we get a new utility, which would mean that we have more utilities than everyone else so with Arenanet its either: 7 more new utilities so no one whines, or people whine. Not a good choice.

Replace a utility? Again, whining will come of it. This isn’t a case like the mine kit turning into a single mine, nothing is at all similar to a ‘sniper kit’, so something completely unrelated would be chopped. Don’t like that idea.

Elite? Could see it replacing elixir X, but honestly, its much easier making elixir X useful, than replacing it.

So honestly, all the options are not good. Your best bet is to improve the ranged capabilities that we have, rather than creating a new one out of nowhere.

I honestly believe that traits need to be consolidated. Firearms is a mess.

I think that the following traits need to mix together:
Hair Trigger, Rifled Barrels.

Make it so that it is:
Pistol and Rifle recharge 20% faster, and have a longer range.
This would make longer range more accessible to the engineer, since right now, its not very high on the list of thing you pick out from firearms.

These ‘double effect’ traits are very common in non engineer classes. Take a look at musketeer for the warrior. It is a superior version of ‘coated bullets’ in every possible way.

That would leave a new space for a trait, but that is much easier than implementing a whole new kit.

I’m running p/s with flamerthrower and elixer gun. add 20% reduced cooldowns, 15% increased dmg, and kit refinement. I’m constantly doing direct dmg, condition dmg, and providing support. Never feel useless although I did see an engy sitting in the elixer gun a whole dungeon just autoattacking and I did think he was useless.

What gear are you using? Because there are huge trade offs if you go for a conditions AND power build. You either go without crit, or without health. And honestly? With my power build? I have damage, crit and health. I don’t want to go into a conditions build, and be forced to sacrifice one of those.

But then again, this was at the same time as they promised sigils on kits, and auto attack by launch so… I would take it they probably mean decades into the future. Maybe centuries.

Grenades in PvP I use, but not really as a main thing. Maybe not even secondary. Probably a tertiary thing.

I use it mainly for the grenade barrage when I have my rifle equipped. Lots and lots of damage.

When I do use it though, is usually when someone is unaware, and at very short range, and then I open with a freeze grenade. But I never linger too far on the grenades. They are simply too hard to use in hectic combat.

I will say though… a single engineer in the ruins with the help of sharks, can hold off 4 players in the ruins of that water map. Grenades underwater are pretty much primary. I never use my harpoon gun. Its damage is 25% that of my grenades.

As it stands now they benefit from condition damage. So over charge rifle, flamethrower, and the fire damage on rocket turret. Net turret does no damage anyway and thumper doesnt benefit “nor does it really do a lot of damage, its more of a tank turret with an ae knockback”.

Should they benefit from power as well? probably….but not sure whether its a bug that they dont yet.

How are you testing that? I don’t think the tooltip is accurate.

In general, this game has conditions builds feel pretty useless due to two main problems:

Structures not taking condition damage.
Bosses having caps on bleed/confusion and burn/poison not stacking in intensity, but rather duration.

So, I wonder, how do you manage to feel like you’re helping? I ask since I’ve noticed that conditions build engineers are actually quite limited in what they can use.

It seems that the only kits that cater to that role are the elixir gun, due to bleed and poison stacking, and the flamethrower, due to burn and proc stacking. I suppose grenades too, but they aren’t really worth it as they are mainly used for procs, and to get procs you need 30 points for grenadier so, its not too feasible to assume.

For me, who uses a rifle/grenade power build, the world is my oyster. But I recently decided to start grinding dungeon points so I can get myself a side conditions build. But I’m a bit worried that in general PvE and in certain dungeon scenarios, you are left feeling useless, while if I played with my rifle build I’d be perfectly fine.

Perhaps you post so negatively about the class because you misunderstand certain mechanics.

I can assure you when I place a super elixir, either by using the #5 elixir gun skill or by swapping to the elixir gun with kit refinement That I create a light field and it absolutely allows me to use specific projectiles to remove conditions with a projectile combo finisher, and it will do so in an AoE fashion. I stated it very clearly and specifically. So I am unclear as to how or what you are confused about.

You were talking about it in a discussion which was related to self condition removal, which projectile interaction with a light field does not do.

So I was wondering why it was relevant in the slightest.

Kits are bundles

Bundles are not weapons.

No opinion about it.

and yet bundles have skills i can use!
dude, think whatever you want to. im not going to start a discussion with someone who cant accept other people opinions. Thats pretty much the worst characteristic a human beeing can have.

That does not make them weapons.

That means they go in the weapons slot.

Elixir X does not give you 3-5 weapon skills, simply because the 3-5 abilities go there.

Continuous? What?

It heals on application not on tick. Have you tested it? And it doesn’t count as an elixir, despite the tooltip.

I understand that the Devs really don’t want people to swap to another weapon, but why not?

Why not make the secondary weapon slot a place to put kits instead? If you want a second kit then it can go on the utility slots. Currently Engineers are down one utility slot and tbh that’s hurts a lot. I’d love to put a condition removal or gtfo gadget in that extra utility slot.

Looks at elixir gun condi removal (and other utilities), med pac condition removal (and fury/swiftness buff) while still using rifle and two other kits. I have no idea what your problem is.

The one in elixir gun affects allies, not you. And super elixir is one condition.

Med kit is one condition, and it stops you from attacking, and can’t be picked up if moving.

Excuse me if I don’t accept that these are acceptable condition removal tools.

Clearly us letting ‘them know’ accomplishes nothing, and unless you remind them of the issue and show them that you care, then they will just ignore it.

I guess thats where our problem lies ^^
im a coder myself and and reminding us every day that there is a bug wont get things done any faster.
You have to prioritize which bugs comes first.

  • can not fxing it cause additional problems (dataloss, additional bugs and so on)
  • how important is it
  • how easy is it to fix, does fixing affect other areas of the game
  • how many people does it affect
  • and so on

and this list will fixed by the priority of the bugs. Sometimes fixes for totaly unrelated things wil fix other bugs, sometimes an bugfix is more comlex then initialy thought and has to be delayed. and so on.
if bugfixing would be that easy. dont u think they would allready have fixed all the bugs out there?

believe me, it will be fixed, but since there are tons of other bugs out there, especialy all those non working events, disconnects and other issues which affect far more players, it might take some time.

How many people it affects and how important it is, are both relevant to how discussed on the forums it is.

If no one ever mentioned auto attack on kits, It would not be fixed.

And “believe me it will be fixed”, you sure you ain’t working for arenanet :P
